Sweden saying they'll vote against allowing the use of Catalan, Basque and Galician in the European Union Parliament because "there's lots of minority languages and we can't allow them all" is so funny because CATALAN HAS MORE SPEAKERS THAN SWEDISH
Catalan is the 13th most spoken language in the EU. It has more than 10 million speakers, which means it has more speakers than other languages that are already official EU languages like Maltese (530,000), Estonian (1.2 million), Latvian (1.5 million), Irish (1.6 million), Slovene (2.5 million), Lithuanian (3 million), Slovak (5 million), Finnish (5.8 million), Danish (6 million), Swedish (10 million), and Bulgarian (10 million).
Neither Galician (3 million) nor Basque (750,000) would still be the least spoken languages to be allowed in the EU representative bodies.
But even if any of them did, so what? Why do speakers of smaller languages deserve less rights than those of bigger languages? How are we supposed to feel represented by the EU Parliament when our representatives aren't even allowed to speak our language, but the dominant groups can speak theirs?
It all comes down to the hatred of language/cultural diversity and the belief that it's an inconvenience, that only the languages of independent countries have any kind of value while the rest should be killed off. After all, isn't that what Sweden has been trying to do to the indigenous Sami people for centuries?

GERMAN POLICE ASSAULT PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTERS IN BERLIN AFTER PALESTINIAN CONGRESS CANCELATION
📹 Scenes from Pro-Palestine protesters in Berlin, Germany, following the cancelation of the Palestine Congress in the German capital, which saw the German federal police repeatedly shoving and assaulting demonstrators.
The assault comes just one day after Dr. Ghassan Abu Sitta, who was scheduled to speak about the Israeli genocide at the Palestinian Congress, was denied entry into Germany.

The European Parliament on Thursday agreed on a controversial law to restore degraded environments to their natural state. More forests are to be reforested, moors re-wetted and rivers returned to to their natural free-flowing states. Negotiators from the European Parliament and EU member states reached an agreement late on Thursday on the fiercely debated nature conservation project. The EU Nature Restoration Law aims sets a target for the European Union to restore at least 20% of the bloc's land and sea areas by 2030 and all ecosystems in need of restoration by 2050. According to EU figures, around 80% of habitats in the European Union are in a poor state. In addition, 10% of bee and butterfly species are threatened with extinction and 70% of soils are in an unhealthy condition.

Get in loser, we're taxing the rich!
There's an official proposal to the EU to tax the rich!
You only need to be a EU citizen to sing it. The goal is 1 million signatures before october 2024, and we're already at 140.000!
If you need extra incentive to sign, the French have the most signatures as of right now. You wouldn't want the French to be better than you, right? And if you are French, well, Italians are second right now, you wouldn't want the Italians to catch up, right?
Please reblog so more people can see, EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT FROM THE EU!

Palestine's freedom shouldn't be conditional on political leaders of other countries "recognising" it, and a 2 state solution is in many ways not the preferred answer, but this is still a positive step.
Free Palestine!

anti romani prejudice still being this prevalent in europe is so heartbreaking and sickening. we barely learned anything about them in school, there arent many efforts for reparation or at the very least apology after the atrocities europe executed against them, and there is still so much negative stereotyping prevailing, not to mention the systemic discrimination they still face to this day in sections such as housing and medical care.
i am not romani, but its just something i noticed that european leftists barely acknowledge. there is still so much prejudice we all need to unlearn. we are failing the romani people with our silence and its time we properly include them in our fight for justice for all.

It's the Dutch national elections today!
And I'm working at the polls.
So, for y'all non-Dutch ppl here, this is what our ballots look like:
Tumblr media
You vote for one specific candidate. The longests lists are from VVD and D66 and they consist of no less than 80 people.
Unfortunately I have no cat for reference scale but it's ginormous. I've seen a lot of ppl struggle with folding it.
So far the turnout has been great at my station and we haven't even hit the evening rush yet. The polls suggest more than 50% of voters are unsure who to vote for, so turnout is probably gonna go up by Quite A Bit as it gets dark.
Pssst, Nederlandse tumblrinas, hier een tip:
Ga stemmen!

But in all seriousness, it just makes me helplessly furious to meet people in cozy West European homes who don't even take that cowardly, self-deluding stance of "uwu if we keep giving Putin what he wants then SURELY he'll be satisfied one day and leave us alone", but just. outright. go "the people of Ukraine (and Poland and the Baltics and Finland and...) are a good and virtually cost-less sacrifice to Putin for us to make to keep us cozy".
The first kind of people are making me despair with how WILFULLY ignorant you can be.
The second kind. Just this helpless fury. I wanna hit them with furniture. Pure hatred. Fucking scum.
Oh and "well if they don't want to be attacked by the Russians they could just move away from territory Russia wants", which is??? So beyond words???

BBC PIECE REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE "ISRAEL" RESPONSIBLE FOR MURDER OF FOREIGN AID WORKERS
📹 Footage from a BBC piece covering the deaths of 7 foreign aid workers with the World Central Kitchen (WCK) in an Israeli airstrike refuses to mention "Israel" as the party responsible for the slaughter.
The piece dances around ever mentioning the party responsible for the airstrike, instead discussing the "deaths" of the 7 foreign aid workers in "an airstrike". Even though Palestinian resistance forces do not possess such capabilities.
The piece even mentions how WCK coordinated its movements with the "IDF" (Israeli occupation forces [IOF]) but fails to connect the coordination with the murderous airstrike itself, choosing to avoid any mention of Zionist responsibility for the murder of the aid workers, which included British, Australian and Polish nationals, along with a dual U.S.-Canadian citizen and one Palestinian.

🇳🇱🇺🇸👨‍❤️‍👨 Rutte x Obama Gay Kiss Meme 👨‍❤️‍👨🇺🇸🇳🇱
Tonight, I'd just recently found this picture of Dutch PM Mark Rutte and 44th U.S. President Barack Obama kissing in the sky. Also, there's Russian President Vladimir Putin and Italian ex-PM Silvio Berlusconi at the beach in it, holding hands and looking at them up in a sky kissing.
This picture I found is originally from Bestweter.

but really tho... how can international politics, such as the us, the uk, remain in any way credible after israel's utter failure at proving that there was indeed a hamas headquarter inside al-shifa?
how are we not holding them accountable, right this fucking moment, protesting by millions on the streets because they lied, supported a regime that lied, and supported a war crime under the pretence that because of CGI generated proof, we were supposed to believe that terrorists were hiding inside that hospital?!

This was a good read so i went to look up the writer. She has a book coming out, she's researching how the far right uses terms like "gender ideology", "gender madness" etc and her stuff almost feels like an antidote to the way people researching this stuff lump together all criticism, whether from the left or the right, as "anti-gender movements".
