i was watching kuch kuch hota hai with my mom earlier and OMG IT'S SOOOO GOOD

if you haven't watched it, i 100% recommend it's amazing

it's kind of an older movie (80s, so not that old) but it still lives up to the hype to this day

the musical numbers are amazing as well as the plot itself

tbh i was kind of crying half way through (iykyk) but in a good way

it keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time and the romance is sooo sweet <3 (kinda funny coming from a yandere writer LOL)

yeah 10/10 old indian movies are the best

One of the reasons Darlings works is because the two central women make opposite decisions and neither are condemned. In fact Badru is able to walk away from her husband because she has her mother to go to. Her mother, her who has consistently been a source of love and support, her mother who she has consistently shown she wants to be similar to, her mother who is only able to be there for Badru because she killed her own abusive husband so long ago. Badru says she doesn’t want to sink to her husband’s level and kill him and her mom agrees with her, understands the impact taking someone’s life can have on you. But even in that moment, both their decisions are understood and respected. In fact their decisions are only possible because of each other. And looking at Shamshu who is free from her own husband, who looks and sees her daughter free too, who has her cooking business, and maybe even a new love, it’s clear that there’s not a single piece of her that regrets the decision she made.

#shamshu’s character is so so fucking good and I’m so glad my queen shefali shah played her #this movie wouldn’t have been possible without the mother daughter dynamic #they make each other possible!!!#&&&we get the catharsis of watching badru’s shitfuck husband get hit by train anyway so it’s a win win #darlings #movies #bollywood #a #media thots

I'm having a hard time choosing another easy entry Bollywood movie that follows the absolute bang that is Jab We Met (2007)

#btw @corinna you are cordially invited to the jab we met rewatch sara wasnt there last time either :)#ill probably finish dil se tomorrow since im falling asleep on the couch rn #undoubtedly this time ive matured enough and will 100% declare dil se a masterpiece #its probably one of the best srk has ever been in but it heavily hinges on it inverting the bollywood tropes that's part of why its genius #and reading through the letterboxd reviews i now fully understand amar's character so that bodes well for me 180°ing my opinion on the film #but idk it should come later #just like rab ne bana di jodi that shit is so tender but you need to understand the whole hero culture for it to work #must find a good srk movie for beginners that is NOT ddlj i love that movie to pieces but its another train romance so #btw this stream of consciousness posting is brought to you by curating a bollywood list for international movie night :'')

As much as I love a pretty southie period piece, something about my indian actress faceblindness just makes things hard to enjoy it

#look. look this isnt a new problem #since my childhood I've had difficulty telling bollywood actresses apart #with great training I managed to kind of get over it #but now its back again #its like #the makeup's the same. the styling is the same. its like you can swap around actresses and 9 times out of 10 i have difficulty telling them #apart #its almost like male actors are able to preserve their own style and distinctiveness while female actresses are kind of......... made #really similar #sighs #this is about ponniyan selvan which looks pretty. in the backgrounds and settings.#yeah
