Hey autistic and or depressed folks! How do y'all find the energy to brush your teeth/ how to you deal with the texture of toothpaste? Now that I'm officially diagnosed, I understand that this is a common issue.
I usually just sort of stick my head under the faucet and brush with running water instead of toothpaste, but that's if I have enough energy to, and its starting to hurt my neck.

i got this today on amazon and i’ve read a bunch of reviews and i genuinely think this could solve all of my sensory problems that make brushing my teeth such a nightmare
first off: it’s a gel consistency which is less gritty and does not irritate my teeth
it is also a similar formula as sensodyne or at least does the same stuff since it’s fluoridated, cavity preventing, strengthens enamel and is designed with sensitive teeth in mind but without some of the toxic stuff meaning that if you swallow it it’s not a big deal
the last thing i’ll mention is Flavor and Theme— it’s blue raspberry flavored which is my favorite candy flavor ever, also it’s themed after dragons and has a dissolvable food safe glitter to it! that’s so cool!!
if you’re like me and you have sensory issues that make you not want to brush your teeth, i highly recommend getting a flavored toothpaste and don’t worry if it’s labeled as “for kids” like this one is, because if you look at the ingredients and stuff that it’s designed for you’ll notice that adults need all of that too so it’s actually fine
there is a brand who makes flavored toothpastes aimed at adults called Hismile, which i will also recommend because:
- gel consistency
- pump packaging that’s slim and easy for travel
- same quality; fluoridated, meant for sensitive teeth, cavity prevention, enamel strengthening and non-toxic

brush your teeth!
this is a story based on a short discord conversation based on a picture i found. yes it is targeted. you know who you are.
"Nagisa! Nagisa, where are you hiding?"
nagisa remained quiet.
she was crouched in mami's closet; her usual hiding place. that meant it was only a matter of time until mami found her. if she shifted to witch form now, she'd make noise and be found for sure.
"Nagisa! I'm starting to get annoyed. You know what today is."
her voice was closer. time was running out. she took a deep breath and decided it would be better to get it over with rather than risk mami's anger. she opened the closet and quietly stepped out. mami stood at the door, one hand on her hip, the other holding a humongous toothbrush almost as tall as her. "Okay, Mami, I'm here."
"Thank you. Now come here. Have you been brushing every day?"
"Yes, Mami. First thing in the morning, every day."
"Good. But today's when we brush your witch's teeth. Go ahead and transform for me, please."
nagisa took a deep breath and summoned up her inner self. she reached inside for her soul, careful not to prick herself on the sharp point, and pushed magic into the seed. in moments, her other self was manifesting, dragging nagisa into the soul while exploding out as bebe.
she looked up at mami, who looked down at her. "Thank you. Now your other other self, the one with teeth."
nagisa sighed internally. mami always got frustrated on teeth cleaning day, even when she was punctual. it's not like it was her fault she didn't have arms like this. nonetheless, she obliged, drawing deeper on her inner self, hitting the spark that manifested her second form, which popped free from her mouth. the doll swiftly fell away, falling apart when it came free. she did a quick check to either side to make sure she didn't knock anything over. she hadn't. mami nodded and gripped the toothbrush with both hands.
"Open wide, Bebe. And try not to break the brush this time, please?"
bebe nodded and opened her mouth, lowering herself to the floor. mami got right to work, shoving the brush into her mouth and brushing each tooth, first on the outside. each tooth got special attention, one by one. upon finishing the top row, mami moved to the bottom row, and repeated the process, one by one.
mami paused at a tooth. "Is this a cavity...?" bebe's eyes widened, but she kept her mouth where it was. she hadn't had that much candy, she thought, but it might have been possible. "Ah, no. Just a stuck bit of chocolate." mami patted bebe's chin before continuing to brush.
after finishing the outside, mami grumbled something and moved to the inner sides of bebe's teeth. she had to get almost half her body into bebe's mouth just in order to reach some of them, but bebe knew how to control herself. at least most of the time. indeed, that's why mami's soul gem was standing on the nightstand nearby. just in case.
the rest of the brushing went off without a hitch; no cavities, no problems. "Thank you for behaving, Bebe. You're free for the rest of the day. Same thing next week, okay? Don't hide next time, please?"
"sorry, mami. it shouldn't happen next time. i'll try."
mami nodded and walked off towards the bathroom. "Thank you. I'm going to go clean the brush, then I'll start on dinner. Anything you want?"
"cheese! cheese!"
mami chuckled. "That can be arranged, I think."
