genuinely curious to know whether there's a concept of heaven and hell in the Nine Houses. i mean, think about it, your god is a ten-thousand-year-old millennial who makes vine references and eats peanuts during meetings, and the afterlife as the Houses know it is either necromantic servitude or ghostly departure to "The River" of which is likely wholesale lifted from Greek mythology. The Houses have a completely different concept of god as an undying god-king who is touchable but clearly makes mistakes, as opposed to Jod himself who is literally the only living person in the Nine Houses who understands the concept of religion as we know it on earth.
add in the fact that the closest thing they have to a second coming of the devil is an eldritch barbie doll locked in a tomb on pluto, whose only instance of causing mortals to sin was an accidental awakening of lesbianism and making children argue over who got to eat her lunch, the Houses' idea of sin likely exists not in the case of "punishment in the afterlife" but "punishment in this life." Sometimes that punishment is that Jod vaporizes you, and sometimes he throws you in jail, and sometimes he just looks at you and says "i'm not mad, just disappointed."

Harrow: I go by she, because I’ll never be her
Ianthe: Who? Dulcinea?
Camilla: Corona?
Pyrrah: Ianthe?
Pal: Camilla?
Corona: Pyrrah?
Jod: Every woman in the Cohort?

I know we laugh about Jod asking Harrow if she and Ianthe were being ‘safe’ but I’ve been thinking about it :the fact that Jod said that at all is a true testament to how much the man is in denial about things and how much he assumes other people think like him.
He has to be at least partially in denial because he HAS to know that Harrow is in no way shape or form ready to be fucking anyone. She literally was on her knees begs for the life of her cavalier a few months ago. She gets almost murdered on the regular.
Or! He assumes that it’s because Harrow is having a awful time she’s fucking Ianthe because when he is feeling bad he hoes around.

I think the big reason why I didn’t immediately hate John after the reveal at the of Harrow the Ninth that he just lied to everyone was because I was too confused on why he did it. Like, yeah he kept away the information that his followers didn’t actually have to kill people to turn into lyctors….but why did he do that?

a somewhat rare trope that i go crazy for is when a character is immortal or really powerful or just oblivious to pain/death, and something usually horrible or dangerous happens to them (e.g. someone tries to kill them, their body starts falling apart, they start bleeding through their clothes, etc.) and their only reaction is to be mildly embarrassed about it, because to them, it's just an inconveniance.

Trying to break down that one part of htn like. There’s three characters in the scene: God, a teenage nun, and God’s dead daughter (who is currently sharing a body with the nun and is also kind of the nun’s girlfriend? They didn’t really get a chance to define the relationship before the whole dying thing). God doesn’t know his daughter ever existed. The nun has forgotten that she ever existed. The audience does know she existed, but they don’t know she’s present in this scene. The daughter knows that she exists and is here but doesn’t know that she is at all related to God.
And then God looks the nun in the eye and says “If I ever had a daughter, I’d want her to be like you,” and no one involved has enough information to know how fucked up a statement that is.
