Three of Wands - (Smith-Waite Tarot Deck - Centennial Edition)
Hey Friends!
Happy Winter Solstice / Yule! Today is that special day that marks The Sun returning after the longest night of the year. The days only get longer from here! For many of us, it's a another beautiful cozy night in with friends and family. For others, it's a beautiful opportunity to honour Mother Earth in her darkest state, and honour the darkness and #shadow within ourselves. Remember your Shadow Work? What better day to sit and do some introspection than a day that celebrates bringing our inner light forward.
If we look at the figure in the Three Of Wands, he stands with his wands or staves and looks out over an empty valley. He himself is reflecting on his journey - where he's been, where he is now, and where he is yet to go. Notice how he holds one staff, while the others are behind him - he's recognized what has helped him get to this point, but now he needs to shed to make space for his journey ahead, and only keep what is needed. What he's holding on to, is his will - his will to move forward and push on. He's reminding us to wake up and be even 1% better than the day before in whatever way, shape or form that may be. Also, the colours of this card, his robe and the background make for the perfect Yuletide card don't you think?
Reminder this #Solstice to give yourself some downtime and check in with yourself. What is it you want to leave behind this year? Did you meet the goals you set at the beginning of the year? If so, what helped you get there? If not, what changed? What are your plans for the year ahead? How can you give more to yourself in the New Year?
Remember to take inventory of what you have and who you are. Enjoy time with yourself and your loved ones this Holiday!

A second Binderary book completed!
This is a long stitch binding of @serpentsnestpress’s typeset of Alone This Yuletide by @emsiecat. I haven’t actually read the story yet, but, but it seemed 1) very cute, and 2) holiday themed, so I went slightly ham in that direction.
So the whole bind is an exercise in festive upcycling.
🎁 The cover is made from an actual gift bag (which contained a fuckton of embroidery floss I received from my Secret Santa) (+an offcut of the gold paper I used many months back for my binding of Adult Wolf) and is very pleasantly glossy.
🎁 My personal big brain moment - a title card that doubles as a bookmark. It’s backed with the same gold paper that is covering the spine.
🎁 Even the piece of red yarn is upcycled - it was used as a marker for guests on a New Years party in our local queer community space.
I’m looking forward to reading this story before the winter is over ✨

Here my personal theories, feel free to contradict!
From best to worst:
Frodo- empathic, organised and attentive he will pay attention to what his friends mention about their hobbies and wishes and pick gifts accordingly. Is generous too.
Sam- same as Frodo but tends to gift more lovely homemade things! Known to be a bit overenthusiastic gifting plants and overestimating the recipients ability to care for them ( Pippin has a closet of dead houseplants Merry calls „ Treebeard‘s future revenge „)
Pippin- Loves loves getting his friends gifts! Starts already in October! Always means well but sometimes ends up gifting sth that more fits his than the recipients taste. Still everyone can see he tried!
Gimli- a gifted craftsman and friend to even more gifted ones he will make and pick exquisite jewellery and knives which are always welcome. Very organised, will have everything by December 10th at the latest.
Boromir- Not the most imaginative gift giver but well organised and honestly trying! Will usually ask directly for what people want and get just that or often will get vouchers for shops and events he knows the other one loves. By now HE regularly get’s Christmas cards from Faramir’s favourite book shop for that reason.
Gandalf- Will forget to get sth till last minute but shows up with vouchers promising cool trips and free fireworks, always a huge hit. Especially when no magical jewellery is involved.
Legolas- Time is such a relative thing for an elf! Will forget to start looking til Gimli gives him a nudge a week before. Will panic and buy very expensive but often kind of odd gifts. But always includes the receipt and never minds people exchanging their gifts so it’s fine.
Merry- swears that this year he will finally start looking for gifts early- becomes foreseen. Again. It follows a well meant panic shopping spree in an overflowing city which leaves him frazzled. Gifts everyone the same Christmas ornament he could grab in the last shop he Entered just before closing time.
Aragorn- Arwen gently nudges him. Faramir openly reminds him. He will attend all Yuletide ceremonies and still not realise Christmas is coming. No one knows how he does it, he least of all but it happens every damn year! Only realised he was supposed to do Christmas preparations at 8pm on Christmas Eve. Feels terrible! Eowyn started buying a gift for Arwen that Faramir then places on the king’s desk to help him out. Everyone knows. No one minds.

Merry Christmas, Yuletide felicitations, ¡Feliz Navidad!, Joyeux Noël! Buon Natale! to all my wonderful followers. I hope for all those who celebrate you have a wonderful, magical and peaceful time over the next few days. To those who don't celebrate I wish you all love and that you are safe and full of joy all the same.
I wrote the following during NaNoWriMo, I wanted it posted yesterday or a few days ago, but Christmas eve is better than not at all. 🎄
How the Vets prepare for Christmas
Erwin
A lot of reading, he especially enjoys reading by the fireplace with a hot mug of spiced cider or mulled wine. He can sit uninterrupted for hours on end, quite content with the words of a book helping him to escape into another world for a short while.
Erwin gets his Christmas cards out early, he loves writing them whilst listening to Christmas music. He will include a round robin letter informing everyone of what he’s been up to after the past year, he also uses it as a chance to make amends and try to build bridges with others.
Simple and tasteful, traditional decorations. Will weave his own wreath and make a beautiful centrepiece for the table with foraged holly, ivy and pinecones.
The wreath goes up on his front door early, he likes his home to appear welcoming to anyone visiting.
Levi
The home has to smell wonderful 24/7, he has stove top potpuri which he redoes every few days and heats over the fireplace in the lounge.
Plenty of scented candles too, he loves the smell of spiced apple and orange.
Gets his Christmas shopping done in one trip, he detests it but would rather have one, long difficult and stressful day than many, this way he can forget about it.
Wraps his presents with meticulous care and love. They all have holly or other plant based decorations tied into the ribbon.
Levi’s advent candle would be a simple one with pictures behind each window. The morning routine in December is to wake up, make a nice tea, ideally something winter and seasonal, and then sit down at the kitchen table and open the day’s door whilst sipping tea.
Hanji
Chaotic Christmas shopper, everything is done in bits across multiple days and she ends up with more presents than she needs for everyone.
Has a very traditional Christmas tree, but some of the other decorations around her home are a little more out there, she likes to try out modern trends as well as making some quirky decorations of her own.
Christmas cards are delivered a few days before Christmas, many of them are from the years previous.
Loves a pantomime and Christmas parties, any excuse to let their hair down for once, to dress up and laugh or dance, Hanji will fully embrace the season and let herself go.
Mike
Christmas Shopping is a careful operation that he’s been planning for since early November. Typically if he sees items throughout the last few months of the year he will buy them and so come December he isn’t overwhelmed with so much to buy. Additionally he finds it stops him from buying under pressure and ending up with items he isn’t even sure the individuals will like. Instead the presents are purchased with love and plenty of though.
Similar to Erwin, traditional and tasteful decorations in his home. He prefers a real Christmas tree and isn’t particular about a colour theme. He’ll try to buy a new decoration every year to mark the year that has passed. He can recall where each and every one came from and the stories behind them. If he can purchase them whilst away in a different country all the better.
Mike likes to be the one to cook Christmas dinner, he has a Christmas chef’s apron and hat. He knows that Erwin also enjoys cooking but Erwin works harder than all of them throughout the year so Mike just wants to give him a break on the big day.
Organises or takes part in charity present drives and wants to do as much to help others as possible. Afterall it is the season. He is especially
Loves a Christmas jumper.
Moblit
Shopping is done throughout December on a few trips, all of them planned and less chaotic than the ones Hanji goes on.
Enjoys more silver, white, blue Christmas deorations and goes for that ‘Winter Wonderland’ sparkle and ice theme in his home. But somehow he still makes it cosy.
Is a fan of hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows and also some spiced rum or whiskey.
Loves Christmas music and can be found by the Christmas tree singing along as he wraps presents with great big bows. Is a big fan of bows on everything, even his Christmas jumper has a bow on it.
Winter walks are very much one of his things, he loves being outside especially on sunny but crisp days where frost gently covers all the grass and plants. He loves going on these walks with his friends, but is also happy to spend some time alone thinking about the year which is nearly over, being reflective and thinking on what he’d love from the following year. He will also gather some fir branches, holly and other plants to display in his home.
Nanaba
Christmas is a time to get cosy and be relaxed, she doesn’t want to be stressing about last minute Christmas presents or the food. So she has a Christmas organiser and everything is incredibly well planned.
She loves Red and Gold, everything to be traditional and warm. Has one of the houses with a smoking chimney, the incense cones she uses are the myrrh and frankincense ones.
Loves lighting candles, all red and green, if they’re spiced all the better.
Big fan of Christmas Hallmark movies and just wants to get under a blanket and watch them with a mulled wine or hot chocolate whilst wearing big animal slipper socks.
Loves Ice skating and will succeed in encouraging the others to join her even if they’re a little nervous, Nanaba knows how to help her friends relax and feel at ease.

Merlin Christmas Fics ❄️
a merthur holiday fic rec list
all ye faithful by schweet_heart: After an eight and a half year absence, Arthur returns to his father’s house for Christmas, determined to find some closure and finally let go of the past. Merlin, as ever, gives him a reason to hold on.
It's That Time of the Year by rotrude: Merlin is a personal shopper at a high-end department store. He's tasked with helping Arthur, who's helpless when it comes to gift ideas for his demanding friends and family. Arthur soon finds that going shopping isn't that tremendous an ordeal
Kiss Me Under the Mistletoe by vintagelilacs: Merlin is dreading Camelot's annual Yule celebration—not only because he's never had a kiss under the mistletoe, but because the holiday festivities are a thinly veiled excuse for visiting princesses to try to capture Prince Arthur's heart. Arthur of course revels in the attention, and the chance to make Merlin jealous.
Tell the World We Finally Got it Alright by @ingberry: It’s the most beautiful time of the year and Merlin can’t wait to open his regular stall at the Ealdor Christmas Festival for weeks of handmade cards, wreaths, ice skating, not so secret Secret Santas, and cozy evenings with friends and family. But when newcomers Morgana and Arthur mistakenly intrude on his territory, Merlin isn’t sure he can embrace the season and overcome bad first impressions.
To Make The Season Bright by ingberry: Merlin swaps houses with Morgana Pendragon over Christmas only to end up with a house guest that wasn't part of the deal.
blow cold the season by schweet_heart: It’s Yuletide in Camelot, but things are far from merry. Homesick for the familiar traditions of Ealdor, Merlin can’t help feeling lost amidst the hustle and bustle of castle life, and it doesn’t help that Arthur has been in a terrible mood recently. Fortunately, as the longest night commences, Merlin comes up with a way to cheer them both up—and maybe give destiny a helping hand into the bargain.
It Didn't Mean Anything by ingberry: Merlin Emrys: receptionist at Camelot Inn and magic user in training, not yet certified. When something unexpected happens, Merlin has to use his magic to save Arthur. It has rather impractical consequences, to say the least. Merlin’s not entirely sure how they’re both going to get through this with their sanities intact.
Sweet Dreams of Mistletoe by katherynefromphilly: What could be make the winter holidays worse for Arthur than having to entertain the surly King Olaf and his still-entirely-love-smitten daughter Lady Vivian? Why, doing it during an outbreak of magical mistletoe all over Camelot castle, of course!
