What got you to start editing out the intros on snapcube 2? I suppose it helps get to the games faster, but as a hardcore Vodhead, I kind of liked those.
I've gone back and forth about keeping pre-streams in the VODs for a couple years now. Whenever I decide to take them out I always have a couple people being like "aw I liked those", but then when I leave them in I can tell the majority of viewers will just skip to gameplay anyway and of course there's the age-old "skip to [timestamp here] for the game" comments. Not that I really mind people having the option per-se, but essentially over the years I've gotten the impression that there's always gonna be someone who feels like the experience of the VODs could be improved by either including them or cutting them and it's just gonna come down to individual preference, so I should go with my gut and how I like to produce things.
SO to actually answer your question as it stands technically, what got me to start removing the opening sections of streams RECENTLY is that I actually just completely upended the way I produce these VODs. I used to have an entire, seamless recording running from the moment I started streaming to the very last second, when I hit my "go live" button the recording would turn on automatically and I never touched it. Then when it came time to post I would put the recording in my editing software, cut out the starting soon screen and all the breaks, and then render and upload manually. At some point during or right before the Tears of the Kingdom series I changed this completely. Having to render out new versions of cut down VODs overnight became way more trouble than it was worth, literally hours of downtime where I couldn't do much on my PC while it was working on exporting them.
So I created a new method that goes something like this:
start the stream, play music
after a few songs, hop on mic and settle in with chat. talk about stuff, chill.
once i am ready to Do The Actual Content, i hit the button to start recording stream locally so the recording only ever begins when i'm ready to go.
i address vodheads and introduce them to the stream separately, then the show starts for real
if there are any stream breaks, i pause the recording as i leave and start it up again once i come back so there is literally nothing i have to edit out of the final recorded file
once the stream is over, take the recording and quickly convert it to mp4 so i can upload it to youtube as-is. every cut is already made, it's in full quality, and i don't have to render it.
now, i totally could just start recording once i hit my "bootup jingle" sound and hop on mic earlier in that process! the practical difference would not be really much to sneeze at on my end. i actually have already done this a couple times! however, what also ended up happening is that the Tears of the Kingdom series like.... REALLLY cut down on how much time i was even spending in the pre-stream to begin with. i was so pumped about that playthrough and i wanted to really maximize my time playing the game while i was live, so often there just really wasn't anything interesting in the pre-stream chat to begin with. this wasn't always the case, but it was reliable enough that i got used to just starting the recording when i started the game. then once i got used to it i kinda started to like it and like how the final VODs turned out when you could just click on it and jump right in, and i've kinda kept up a similar pacing and cadence to my streams post-TOTK.
ultimately, the TL;DR answer is that it's just how i prefer to produce the VODs right now and it makes my workflow a lot easier and makes me feel good about the final product! not saying this will never change, again it's something i go back and forth on. but it's how it is rn!

I have seen many people wanting a gameplay on Rachel Amber, and what led her down the Dark Room. I’m in the middle about this idea.
On one hand, it would answer the many questions that fans of Life Is Strange and Before The Storm have such as when, why and how her and Frank began a romantic relationship and what caused them to break up, her affair with Mr. Jefferson, how she truly felt about Chloe, etc.
However, the game will definitely need to be handled with tender, love, and care due to the tragic circumstances surrounding Rachel and her demise. In addition, we all are aware of her fate, and no matter what decisions we have her make, she will still end up losing her life. The credit of Chloe calling Rachel while she’s unconsciously being photographed by either Mr. Jefferson or Nathen will forever give me chills down my spine.
Furthermore, I think that’s one of the reasons why I loved Rachel as a character. You feel like you know her, but she’s still a mystery to everyone. Even to the people that adored her very much.
I appreciate the fact that you have called out Rachel for her flaws, yet remained respectful of her and showed the good things that she has done. I’ve seen so many people online call her everything in the book but a child of God. I’ve even seen people give more grace to Nathan, and even Mr. Jefferson above her. Regardless on how we feel about Rachel, she did not deserve what happened to her.
Personally I love Rachel and her flaws. She's a very interesting character and I feel like you could discuss for hours every aspect of her and still come to a different conclusion.
That's why I think a game about her could work if you as the player had to draw their own conclusions about who she was with no real canon answer.
I like the idea of a game where she's the protagonist from someone else's viewpoint. For example: The game opens with a green haired Chloe lying in a motel bed clearly wide awake. She's thinking about Rachel and still coming to terms with her death despite the storm being long ago. Here we get to go into her mind as she imagines the final days of Rachel Amber.
More Undercut
I think this could be interesting because then the game would hold weight as it's Chloe's interpretation of events as she works through her grief.
For example: Maybe we could get a scene with Rachel in Frank's RV. Here he could ask her if she see's Chloe as a friend, something more, or someone she's using to escape Arcadia Bay. Then we could make that choice and by extension decide how Chloe views what they were with the information she has now.
With choices like that from Chloe's perspective the mystery of Rachel could be kept while also giving us a vague idea of what her final days were like. Though to be honest I still feel like people would argue about what choice you're "supposed" to pick.

The Rough Tempest - a Gale build
"A rough tempest I will raise."
Gale is an Evocation Wizard, bringing down the wrath of the skies on his enemies. This build but has a strong focus on Lightning and Thunder damage, as well as their respective conditions.
[check out my other builds!]
Gameplay Notes
The general gist is trying to build up and make use of Lightning Charges and Reverberation, prioritizing Lightning and Thunder damage to do so. If you have a Druid or Cleric in the party who can cast Create Water, that's even better, since Wet targets are vulnerable to Lightning and will take double damage. Several of the key items in this build are available in Act 1, which makes this one of my most used Gale builds, if only because it’s so convenient.
Stats and Leveling
Final build: Level 12 Evocation School Wizard
Gale’s (default) stats: STR 8 / DEX 13 / CON 15 / INT 17 / WIS 10 / CHA 12
Level 1 - Wizard Level 1
Cantrips: Shocking Grasp, Minor Illusion, Fire Bolt
1st Level Spells [Thunderwave, Witch Bolt, and Chromatic Orb are most on theme]
Level 2 - Wizard (Evocation School) Level 2

Level 3 - Wizard (Evocation School) Level 3
2nd Level Spells [Shatter is great]
Level 4 - Wizard (Evocation School) Level 4
Feat: ASI+ DEX>14, INT>18

Amulet -
The Blast Pendant (1 Selunite Outpost)
Spineshudder Amulet (2 Moonrise Towers)
Helmet -
The Lifebringer (1 Myconid Colony)
Hood of the Weave (3 Philgrave’s Mansion)
Ring 1 - The Sparkswall (1 Arcane Tower)
Ring 2 - Ring of Protection (1 Emerald Grove)
Gloves - Gloves of the Belligerent Skies (1 Creche)
Boots - Boots of Stormy Clamour (1 Myconid Colony)
Cloak - Cloak of the Weave (3 Devil’s Fee) [I would also recommend another party member, probably a frontliner, wearing the Thunderskin Cloak (2 Moonrise Towers)]
Lore and Flavor
So, we all know that Gale is a very powerful wizard. For him, perhaps more so than any other companion, it’s clear that he was once a much higher level than he is when we find him in the portal. How else would be have become a wizard of such renown and stature? Well, as he says himself: “Apologies, I’m usually better at this…” I suppose having a brain worm and a hungry magic orb in your chest is a good enough excuse. :)
Anyway, he ends up being a Professor of Illusion in his good ending, and we see time and time again throughout the game that he really really likes illusion magic. Whether you’re romancing him or not, he’ll create the most gorgeous night sky just to sit under for a moment. But his love for Illusion magic doesn’t mean that is his main focus, especially during the trials and tribulations the party faces on the road. Plus, there is a letter from Elminster, received during a God of Ambition ending, where Elminster mentions he cast Fireball as an 8 year old — clearly, he can do Evocation magic as well. [side note - does anyone have a bg3wiki link for that letter? I can only find it on tumblr] Evocation is also his default subclass on leveling up, which feels right to me. It’s clearly the most combat focused of the schools, without diving into something hyper-specific like Necromancy. So, ok, Evocation School it is, basically!
I won’t lie, a big part of the reason I like this Lightning/Thunder damage build for Gale is because it plays well in game, with lots of really fun synergies. I like building Gale with strong themes around elemental damage types, and I’ve found that my favorites for his character are Cold, Lightning, and Thunder. Fire is fun as well, but mostly because of the Hat of Fire Acuity, and I pretty regularly have other spellcasters who would benefit from Arcane Acuity more. (Also, I never feel great about a Poison build unless I’m leaning into Necrotic damage/Necromancy later in game. I don’t really know why those are connected in my head - something about Poison damage just feels evil, I guess.)
[check out my build disclaimer for info about how and why I don't min/max or completely optimize builds, prioritizing lore and vibe instead]

Please share Unity thoughts im so curious
GAH since you asked so nicely <3
!!MAJOR SPOILERS FOR AC UNITY AHEAD!!
I love Arno for one, he's so nice and charismatic. A charmer ofc and I see why people say he's the 'french Ezio' on that note I do NOT agree. Ezio was so much more fleshed out and looked into than what we get from Arno's story. He lost his father and wanted revenge, like Ezio BUT!!!! He ended up completely shifting his goal.
He went from going from target to target for the info ofc and to report back to the Brotherhood, to becoming skeptical and angry at the council. I don't think he lost the goal of revenge for his father but rather became so attached to Élise and he couldn't overlook her own goals so he aligned them with hers to PROTECT her.
GOD CAN I PLEASE GET A HAPPY LOVE STORY??? I knew she was going to die(thanks AC community) but GOD did it hit so much harder seeing and hearing the music play in the background god the utter CHILLS I get from this soundtrack.
It's so heartbreaking because his goal all along was to avenge his father, and he did. But in that process he lost his lover, who was more important to him than some target.
GOD IM JUST SHHSHWHAA
Now for the gameplay itself I have much criticism :(
I really dislike how the combat works in this one. I get so annoyed with the party timing and how slow everything is I just miss fast quick combat that doesn't take a million tries.
Along with it taking so long was my struggle with levelling up GOD did this bother me!! I hated having to spend days trying to level up my gear and skills just to do the next story mission. That kinda ruined my immersion and I got lost a lot in the story because of it 💔.
Btw the stupid gun shit SUCKS I get shot twice and I'm literally dead done gone holy shit lower the damage pls
Another thing is probably the parkour being super janky for me with the unfortunate erasure of manual jumping MY LOVEEEEE
Overall the gameplay is nice and good but it's not as good as I had expected so I'd rate it around a 6/10
The stealth system was also a little annoying and pissed me off at times because id barely be seen and then get all the guards in the whole damn building coming for my ass and I'd be dead in two seconds. Other than that I like it I suppose.
I can't specifically rate the story because yes it is more underwhelming compared to the former games imo but I did like it because of how romance centered it was in the end. I am however mad about the boss fight wtf was that shit
That's the only thing I'll diss the most bro where's my super cool battle why do I gotta be sneaking around and only doing 3 tries for an assassination come ON Ubisoft.
This WHOOOLE game you've been building up the spooky grand master dude for me to finish off and I get this janky ass boss fight and Élise is just sitting there doing nothing?? Like ok Ms "we need to take him out together!" THEN HELP ME GOOD LAWD
Ig she did help by dying but OH WELL MAN WHATEVER
I will be replaying this in the future I'm sure so I can further dive into the story and kinda carve it into my mind since I had to waste so much time trying to grind just to get to the next level
*Cough*Sequence 10 was kicking my fucking ass with that STEALTH god fuck you*Cough*

How are you feeling about Lightfall? People seem to be very divided on opinions 🤔 I personally hoped for more answered questions 😔😔
Well… I like the most gameplay/ui changes Bungie made in LF, but I don't like the campaign and almost everything about the story. But the thing is, I knew I won't like it when the first details and the updated logo dropped, so it's nothing new. This whole ✨super secret super city with super people✨ just didn't sound exciting for me from the beginning. I thought it looked extremely off for the Destiny setting, not something I'd personally like to see.
(Super subjective opinion below, with spoilers)
Its core idea is what bothers me the most, I guess... Those people from Neomuna gave 0 shit about the whole Solar system outside of their safe bubble for ages. They were chilling in arcades while hundreds, if not thousands, of people on Earth died from starvation and thirst, not even to mention countless wars. Even the Darkness itself arriving wasn't a good enough reason for them to show up, yet when their own asses got in the slightest danger, they're suddenly our besties and expect us to help them asap. Umm… I think such theme deserves at least some controversy and conflict to happen between the two sides, but no, we became friends in a minute and that was it.
The way we accrue Strand is a joke, it literally just…… lays there in the middle of a random street…... I highly suspect originally it was supposed to be a part of Witch Queen, it would've fit there insanely better. Here it feels just as flat and random as everything else in this dlc. For me LF felt like a half-baked chunk of a different game. Not necessarily a bad one, just… different. You can cut out everything between the first and the last cutscenes and literally nothing will change. It's the most telling sign of the story being not that good, imo.
Tbh I don't feel like going further into the details and turning this post into a huge rant… I can mention a few things I liked instead!
LF had a bunch of excellent cutscenes, those I really enjoyed. The first and the last one ofc, the one with the Witness and Calus, Osiris and Rohan having a good talk, and the moment Caiatl appeared to fight alongside us was really cool. Witness, Osiris and Caiatl in general were the best things in LF for me, I guess. The idea of people living in a virtual space is also VERY interesting and I think Bungie should've gone all the way with it and said Neomuni had a virtual only society this whole time. What if the whole planet itself was modified to be just a huge server, containing data of all people living there? A few "Cloud Striders" could've been the only physical shells they had available for ages, and people could've taken turns in being uploaded into those fully cybernetic bodies, or maybe even several at once (let's say an engineer + a scientist + a warrior), to do the maintence and make sure the servers run as intended. That would've explained their total ignore of everything outside their own planet - they've truly surpassed all other species in the system to the point of not being able to interact with them properly due to the almost total disconnect from the physical world.
Also I get what you say about many unanswered questions. I personally wouldn't have mind it, if the story itself was more exciting/interesting, but sadly for me it wasn't, so the new terms and concepts being thrown around all the time felt irritating and confusing more than intriguing. But since the story campaign has a huge TBC written all over it, we have to just wait and see how it ends.
It's the first dlc i didn't like that much, so yeah… weird feelings. I just hope the next one is better.

Another thing I forgot to add onto my DMC Devil May Cry Review: despite how critical I was of the attempted reboot, I actually like the game as a concept, and I liked the gameplay. I just hate how the concepts for the characters and story were executed, which I will cover in this long list.
Here is my list of 10 DMC Devil May Cry’s concepts that I liked/loved (in no particular order), but the writing and execution weren’t good:
I loved the idea of Dante and Vergil working together the entire game until the usual Vergil being the villain comes up and splits them apart. BUT. I disliked how the writing had Vergil turn into a villain at the literal end of the story, and turning Vergil into a complete monster in his DLC. I know that Reboot Vergil is a different approach to OG Vergil as a villain and villains are supposed to be immoral, but the bad writing made me not care about him. Not to mention that in the majority of the story he barely fights alongside Dante, most of the time he’s just chilling in The Order letting Dante and Kat do all of the work. I get why, because if Mundus finds out about Vergil, he will target him too, but Dante and Kat have also risked getting caught by Mundus and Mundus was already after Dante and kidnapped Kat, and both Dante and Kat escaped nearly unscathed.
I loved the idea of a sadistic, unhinged, feral Vergil. But for me, it was ruined by the execution of the main story’s ending, and once again, spitting on the grave of Eva in the DLC, because the villains calling her a whore over and over again wasn’t enough for this universe I guess. And again, I love unhinged Vergil, just hate the execution like everything else on this list.
Kat as a whole. I’m not expecting her to be like Lady or Trish, obviously. She is already her own girl. I mean, she’s a Wiccan who made seals, vials, and used a teleportation seal recipe that consisted of shark oil, iron shavings, and dried up squirrel spunk. Hey, Wiccan and Witch recipes in general have gross ingredients, so me hearing that she had to use dry animal baby batter wasn’t surprising. In fact, I wanted to see her do more with the Wiccan seals and recipes. She could’ve escaped the corrupt police with all that, but nope, we need a damsel in distress character for some reason, so the extremely capable and street smart Kat is gonna be kidnapped. And even without the Wiccan stuff, she’s just an okay character.
Dante as a whole. In my opinion, Reboot Dante is the most over-hated character in video game history. I get it, he’s not wacky woo-hoo pizza man OG Dante. But that was the intention. The Nephilim universe’s atmosphere is different, and like say for example, the TMNT franchise, the atmospheres of every reboot you can think of are different. Same with the Ninja Turtles. I use this example because OG Dante feels like Michelangelo’s pizza lover and being goofy, mixed with a bit of Raphael’s attitude, mixed with the fact that Leonardo uses a sword. Reboot Dante is supposed to be a gritty, street thug that starts out with amnesia very briefly who slowly becomes a different person. Original Dante doesn’t get character development since he is already so rounded and static kind of like how say Sonic the Hedgehog is already well rounded. Reboot Dante went through a whole character arc and is a dynamic character. I avoided using the word edgy for Reboot Dante because both iterations of Dante are edgy, and if we really want an edgier Dante, we got DMC2 Dante where he was at his most serious. Kind of wish there was a taunt feature for Reboot Dante because he would be talking a lot more shit than Original Dante because Reboot Dante is supposed to be a punk. This was a nitpick, so we can just ignore all of this.
The Devil Trigger. I wanted to see a demon angel form, I’m talking the edgy and cool scaly demon features mixed with the feathery wings of an angel as well as the light and energy that emits from them. The feature is useful like the other entries, but I wish the reboot did more than just change the coloration of Dante’s coat and hair. Same with Vergil.
Sparda being confirmed to be alive. If the Reboot universe was given a second chance, I can see Sparda being an important part of a hypothetical sequel. And imagine the family angst and drama between Sparda and his sons. Imagine the angst Sparda feels when he finds out that not only is Eva dead, but is in Limbo for the rest of her life and Eva is in tears telling Sparda that Vergil killed Dante. Imagine it. It would make such an impactful story. But since that will never happen since Ninja Theory wants to be away from Devil May Cry and is working on their own games, and Capcom is focusing on the original concept of the DMC story, it will never happen. Which is sad, because it would’ve been cool to see Reboot Sparda in the flesh.
Lilith. I love the idea of Lilith being in DMC, but that’s all I liked about Lilith, because everything else about her is a misogynistic caricature. And I don’t use the term misogynistic lightly. Lilith is just Mundus’s baby making machine, and his concubine. Sure, she has a boss fight, but afterwards, Mundus’s baby dies and so does Lilith. Now DMC as a whole doesn’t go with biblical accuracy, but when it comes to Lilith, she’s labeled as the first succubus and was banished from the Garden of Eden and turned into the first succubus because she didn’t obey Adam. When I personally think of Lilith, I think of an independent and dominant woman. DMC Devil May Cry Lilith is pretty much the opposite of who Lilith is in the Garden of Eden story. Again, I know DMC does not go with biblical accuracy, but even other depictions of Lilith don’t depict her like what the DMC reboot did. Diablo for instance has her be a main antagonist. If they didn’t go with the misogynistic route of making Lilith nothing but Mundus’s baby making machine and had her do a lot more to be a threat, like having her have a monstrous succubus form where she can slice Dante into pieces if he’s not careful enough, or even be the one to dethrone Mundus because Lilith ain’t the submissive “I’ll let you do whatever you want to me” type.
A can of soda being used to brainwash humanity. It may seem silly, but I love the dark humor and the concept of this. Think about it: a person is drinking a normal can of soda, which seems innocent, but in reality, in Reboot Vergil’s words, it’s lobotomy in a can. In my opinion, it’s a jab at how people mindlessly consume something that they don’t know was made to brainwash people. Like say for example, propaganda movies and cartoons. The news media in the game also acts as this, but the soda one felt the most like a wasted opportunity in my opinion, because if it really is that bad, then how come an antidote or cure wasn’t made to help those people? What about the left over supply of cans? What about the people who are still drinking it?
The corrupt police. There are plenty of pieces of fiction that cover corrupt authority figures. GTA has covered corrupt policeman before, metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Rising has covered corrupt politicians, Heavenly Sword has covered a power hungry prince. Those are the examples that popped up in my head when I thought of corrupt authority figures in gaming, and I think the police in DMC Devil May Cry could’ve been a lot better. Like actually have the corrupt cops beat up a member of the Order even though they are unarmed and handcuffed, have them swarm Lilith’s nightclub and violently shove innocent people or use the butt of their guns to smack them out of the way to find Dante, have prison guards be on the look out for Dante, etc.
Mundus discovering Vergil. Why not have him brainwash Vergil as a bit of a last laugh towards Dante? Not only would it be another nod to the original series, it would also bring out more of the angst out of Dante because then he’ll be witnessing Mundus, the same man who ripped his mother’s heart out also turn his brother into a puppet. Why not have Vergil enslave Mundus as a way of getting revenge for his father, reversing the roles of who became a slave in Devil May Cry with Mundus instead being the one enslaved in Vergil’s hands and Vergil being an even more dangerous villain?
All ten of these concepts are all interesting and it did draw me in as someone who is a new fan, but the execution and bad writing threw it all off, making me wish that they did better.
The DMC Reboot isn’t a DMC game I hate. That would be DMC2. And trust me, I have tried to play through it, and I felt like i could’ve been playing DMC1 and DMC3 instead, so I’m just gonna focus on DMC1 and DMC3 in the HD Collection.
In fact I will go as far as say that if I was trapped in a room for 12 hours and I can only play DMC2 or DMC Reboot, I will still pick DMC Reboot because at least the gameplay will be fun.

ok. so. a bit of admitting a shame here. my first playthrough of lies of p i DID cheat on second phase of final boss. i had his first phase down and his second phase i was barely lasting at all. i spent idk. an hour or so trying and was getting sick of it esp because you can't use a spectre on that boss. i was SO good at first phase but it still was a pain to get through first phase to get walloped in second phase. i have wemod on my computer so i just cracked that babey open because i wanted to. finish the game. i AM hoping that i'll be able to fight him properly in new game plus here (and I will be a little more patient as i wont be like 'i MUST finish this game' especially because i am getting the same ending i got the first time rn). anyways.
my thing with these boss-focused games is like. i do love challenge and its fun but i do not enjoy spending hours on a boss. this is ironic (and i am making this post for this reason): in other games i do this without hesitation.
i nightmare raid in swtor. we spent like 9 months irl as a team working on taking down revan, and every week i get into swtor for 2-4 hours to slam my head against bosses i've been fighting for years with my team. that is like. endless patience.
also. in megaten games i am ALSO much more chill with boss attempts taking hours. my first playthrough of strange journey, i didn't know what shekinah's mechanics would be (obviously) so i was not prepared and thus EACH ATTEMPT i would survive about 12 hours worth of turns before I'd die (or kill her). i legitimately. over several weeks. did multiple 7-12 hour attempts on the final boss before i finally got her down (pausing often of course but i timed myself for a few of those attempts just so i had an idea when i realized how long it was taking me). ofc my second playthrough i was way more prepared so the fight took, idk, an hour or whatever. but i had the tenacity to keep pushing rather than change my party setup that first run. i was OBSTINATE.
and like. swtor isn't turn based and strange journey is, so like, you can pause during the fight and whatever. but THEN i remember when i played raidou 2 i ALSO had an issue with the final boss b/c i refused to play that game correctly, so i wasn't using demons as attackers. i put everything into raidou and my demons were healing tanks to me. i got so good at dodge rolling and such. and the final boss is like, you are supposed to use your demons offensively and hit weaknesses to keep your magitite up, etc. i did do a little bit of that, but i spent like 2 hours rolling around on the ground in my successful attempt (and if memory servers, the final boss of raidou 2 only took me like. a handful of times to beat. i may have even beat it on my first go? i probably needed like 2-3 though, but it wasn't long. my successful attempt took longer than anything else and i did all of that in an evening).
anyways. idk. i am rambling. i just think it's interesting that in games like lies of p and furi, these like more boss-focused hack-and-slash-with-parries style gameplay im like. nah.

sonic frontiers review go!!!! (non spoilers then MASSIVE spoilers under the cut) TLDR overall score: i would say it's an objective solid 8/10, but for me personally i just. i just had so much fun. 10/10
gameplay (combat/bosses) 9/10 gameplay (cybers) 6.5/10 gameplay (shmovement) 8/10
i fucking Love. Comboing Shit For Video Game Combat. it's Fun. it's Exciting. I Love That Shit. excellent combat system, i just wish either skills were harder to unlock or there were just more to unlock (preferably the latter i guess, but i can't think of anything i want ... added ... it's just that skill points are so easy to come by and i maxed out the tree pretty fast, so i have a bunch of excess points for nothing. tbf i have a LOT of excess EVERYTHING but)
bosses were fucking excellent. THE highlights imo. mob fights and stuff are fine, everything manages to be its own puzzle which i adore but mini bosses and bosses are the shit. the cyberlevels are fun genuinely but either too short to get into, have some jank physics in a couple of them, or . well some of them aren't that fun GJKLASDF but i didn't hate them! ive only played sa2 so i only recognized those ones + the Super iconic ones (chemical plant and all that) and that probably affects judgement since blind reacting to a sonic stage is the fun part imo
they're ridiculously easy (to... me at least) though. besides 1-2's s rank which i finally got, i was able to get all four missions done for every cyber level within one sitting ... on average like . 3 tries per i'd say (blind first, going back for any red rings or ring reqs, and then speed) with some taking a few more for speed but never more than like. 10-20 min tbh. in general i almost want a very hard mode bc the game overall was a very chill time, which is fine but sometimes i want my shit rocked
parries being Not timing based both threw me off (bc i would try to let go at the exact time when in fact you just hold it) and made them feel a little less ultra cool since sonic will just hold the parry for as long as ... you do, essentially (though there is heavy end lag on it so if you don't parry anything that's at least punished) it's a minor tryhard gripe where i wish there was like a PARRY parry i could toggle or smth
i like being sonic in a big environment it's just fun. the amount of fucked up shit you can do is great, he truly is a prime candidate for bigass open areas (and he controls pretty nicely, just got a couple weird moments and things like he goes into 'trick' mode too easily or some platforming things don't work the way they're supposed to bc you go too fast lol)
story…… 8.5/10 characters 10/10 i like them :)
character writing was absolutely the highlight for me this game, good banter, many quips, overall just characterization i adore and love to see i was well fed this game with my beloved little scrimblos it was a good time
the story itself went pretty hard ngl, a lot more lore than i expected and generally it was sonic taking its ridiculous plot seriously again which is all i wanted !!!! it's like somehow ridiculous but probably the most straightforward story they've done in a while, but that's not a bad thing. good story i pogged a few times
music 11/10 straight bangers they just don't fucking miss
i don't think i have much spoiler stuff i'd wanna say other than i genuinely think they hyped themselves too much at the start. like the gameplay was fun learning how it works, how movement goes, the setup and everything etc. etc. i always 100% the map first thing as soon as i can then go through for anything i need/pick stuff up along the way and then i do the boss fight
and that first boss fight. is so fucking sick. oh my god. i felt like. if i was 12 and played this and got to experience that boss fight the way i did now it would've literally changed the trajectory of my life. it DID change the trajectory of my life right now at 23 it was just pure hype, i was so giddy, i had the biggest fucking grin i was literally ready to physically pop off yelling LETS GOOOOO i just let the little tutorial popup chill while i head banged to the song like dear fucking god dude. INSANE intro they set the bar way too high off the bat
wyvern/second boss was perhaps my favorite mechanically just bc it really goes at you the most, you gotta react a lot and parry a lot to get through the fight which is Fun .... giganto/first boss tho. easily the most memorable experience in gaming that i've had in years. it was just so phenomenally done, probably biased bc it's the first one but shadow of the colossus-ing your way up to his fucking head to get the emerald, turn into super sonic, hear that FUCKING SONG
but this game has sonic be so fucking anime and that means knight/boss 3 easily has the best fucking finisher when sonic picks up a sword the size of the island itself and does the most anime cut in half shot he possibly can god it was so fucking SICK THIS GAME IS SICK SONIC IS THE COOLEST
the story weakness imo is the ending where they had so much build up but not a Ton of payoff, not even talking about sonic like essentially dying in soul/mind and then being revived with friendship (based tbh) but like the last boss fight and last islands just weren't nearly as cool as the others imo .... supreme was a lil similar to giganto and went by a lot faster than expected, probably bc by that point sonic's probably juiced up from upgrades (i went all in on attack no defense too lol sooo) ... i love a good bullet hell but i wanted a super cool super sonic fight, a hyper sonic fight, something that lets me go to town and see a fucking Spectacle
fun bullet hell but that wasn't what i'm HERE for (also finally hearing im here was sick but the fight itself really was so short/not quite as hard or anything innovative that it.... ehhh .... plus it was oddly quiet compared to the other songs i think, like, the sound mixing)
the ending feels a liiiittle rushed? The End is cool as a concept especially with how fucked up we know it is but i dunno, it really does feel like it blew the load a little too early and the ending just didn't live up to earlier hype/expectations
but it was still fun it just. it just didn't make me Feel the way giganto did, the way wyvern did, knight was where the hype started dropping off a liiiittle but knight was still a fucking SHOW where sonic beats a mf with his own shield AND THEN BLOCKS A SWORD BIGGER THAN MOUNTAINS WITH HIS OWN FUCKING HANDS THEN USES IT AGAINST HIM ITS' SIK IT'S SICK the final boss didn't have any truly THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME bits that really let you walk away going YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH and that's the part they need to fix
also no boss rush :/ brings the score down tbh i want to relive these things so fucking bad
the character relationships were soooo good though i just. gughugh. i don't want to get emo again but GOD they're such good friends they love and care about each other, i'm obsessed with amy saying how sonic loves the world and he has so much love to show because it's true sonic just LOVES living he loves life he loves getting to just Be and
tails is growing up on him faster than he expected .... uuu ....
and the fucking SONIC AND KNUCKLES BAYBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHYEAHYEAHYEAHYEAHYEAHYEAHYEAH BUTTING HEADS SNARLING AT EACH OTHER LAUGHING AND GIVING FIST BUMPS AND TALKING SHIT THEY WERE SO GOOD YEAHYEAHYHEAY MOTEHRFUCKING KNUCKLES SWEEP BABY LETS GOOOO
god. so good. so fucking good. this is a game about love (sonic and his friends, eggman and sage of all people, the koco and their. selves? their history?, even chaos technically ....) and who am i if not a fucking Sucker for that shit. lets show that creep the real super power of team work
i did not actually hear vandalize in game yet because that is apparently only if you go into the final fight on easy or normal (i played to completion on hard exclusively) but the "true" ending song by nate goddamn wants to battle is INCREDIBLY sonic. one way dream is soooo reach for the stars/endless possibilities. it just makes me Feel happy. it's a little melancholic the way all of frontiers sort of is, but it's still hopeful and all about like. going forward. overcoming anything in your path and getting better for it and seeing the start of another new adventure and that sure is sonic the hedgehog

I beat the whole Fell Xenologue in one sitting (moderation? Never met her)
For anyone curious it takes about eight hours on normal
Some thoughts under the cut (spoilers for all chapters of the Fell Xenologue to follow)
So Alear seems to be much more passive in general throughout. That’s kind of fine actually, I don’t hate it, but I think they might have been a little too passive at points. There’s like three ✨plot twists✨ throughout and Alear’s role seems to be just seeing absolutely none of them coming and being surprised audience surrogate
I get it. You can play the Xenologue at any time after a certain point in the main story, so you have to assume Alear could be at any stage in their main plot character development and could have any amount of knowledge of the alternate universe characters. It makes sense to keep them mostly quiet
On the flip side, Nel is almost absurdly aware of everything that’s going on. Nil isn’t really Nil? NBD she’s known for years. Everyone in the world has been dead the whole time? She’s known the whole time. Her dragonstone had an evil spell cast on it to make Nil go crazy and try to kill everyone??? She also knows about that.
Like holy fuck the only thing she doesn’t see coming is that Nil is going evil, and I can only assume she doesn’t know that because the writers needed the plot to actually happen.
I was kind of done at the end when she just seems to know that some spell was cast on her dragon stone and breaking it will release it.
Now I’m not saying Alear needed to be the star of the show, but I think some of those out of nowhere twists could have been aided just a smidge if Alear was at least somewhat aware that funky shit was going on, which would at least make it so Nel doesn’t seem just supernaturally able to detect weird shit happening when no one else has a clue
I’ll have to play it again to comment on the foreshadowing of the twists, but honestly for most of them I didn’t pick up on that much. I think the only one that was done really well (on first playthrough at least) is the “everyone is actually a corrupted” twist because of the way it’s hinted at through the gameplay/story integration. I definitely noted that everyone had a weakness against corrupted effective weapons but just didn’t think that much of it in the moment. And it’s chilling when it’s revealed and you realize that you’ve just been marching through a graveyard populated by zombies the entire time. And it works. We know from the main game that Veyle can create walking, talking corrupted that are incredibly lifelike, and the first thing Alfred says when you meet him is “this is a trick, you must be one of the corrupted” so we know this universe also probably has lifelike corrupted as well. Plus the gameplay integration. 10/10 implementation
The “Nil was mind controlled” twist is a bit more out of nowhere. I suppose theoretically in the main game we see that Sombron is able to mind control Veyle in some capacity, but I guess I was never clear on how much of that was Sombron and how much was Zephia. I thought it was mostly Zephia. Also, in the main game Sombron is either awakening or active, whereas in the side story he’s dead, but I guess the mind control persists even after death? And we were just supposed to know that I guess? I think the only other hint is that Nil mentioned Sombron putting his hand on his chest before he left (could have been when he cast it?) and Nil fighting himself a little before the final battle, which honestly just came off as super confusing in the moment. On a first playthrough, eh, 6/10
The “Nil isn’t really Nil” twist… honestly why? Seriously, why. Nothing about the story really changes, and there’s nothing I can think about where I can look back and say “ah, so *thats* what that meant!” It just felt kind of shoehorned in, 0/10
Random rapid fire thoughts before I pass out
I’m surprised the Firene royals were more similar to their original selves than I thought they were going to be. Alfred is still kind of an eager dork, it’s just more subdued. Celine is mostly just taking her over-protective nature up a notch, which kind of makes sense considering the situation in this Elyos is more dire for Firene
Some of the alternate self vs dialogues are genuinely hilarious. I adore Alfred being like “aw man I’m scrawny here too???? Maybe I just can’t build muscle no matter what universe I come from!” And Fogado on Fogado was pretty amusing. I’m definitely gonna replay these chapters just to see the different combos
Someone in my chat predicted that Mauvier was gonna die the second he showed up without a palette swap or new name and by god if they weren’t right
Evil Diamant is depressing
I think the alternate world where everything is all different is a neat idea, but it’s honestly just OK here. Other than Firene and Brodia switching demeanors there’s really not that much? Elusia still worships the fell dragon primarily, and who even knows what Solm is doing.
I’ll see if I have more to say later

Mage Ranks the JD2023E Map… thank u, next
Lover Coaster continues with the “surprise” (but not really) song!
MAP: thank u, next - Ariana Grande DIFFICULTY: Medium EFFORT: Chill JD+ NEEDED?: Yes SEASON: Lover Coaster
youtube
Review and ranking under the cut! thank u, in advance!
--
I love this song! I also think it was the last good Ariana song! So I’m happy it’s here, and it definitely fits the Lover Coaster theme. And honestly, I like how this one followed abcdefu, as a more softer, mature version of a breakup song to contrast with the angry rant-y energy of the previous song.
And to match the softer song, we have a softer dance routine. There’s quite a bit of repetition in this one, but that doesn’t necessarily make it a bad routine outright. The moves are very soft and ‘feminine’-leaning, matching the song, making use of quick-but-cute movements and those cute little shoulder movements during the bridge. That’s probably my favorite move from the whole routine, it’s just so fun to wiggle your shoulders a little bit! I think the map is ranked correctly, because while the moves themselves aren’t very difficult, the song does drag on a little bit near the end, plus I could see more inexperienced dancers getting tripped up during the verses.
However... while I said the vibe fits the dance, and that a repetitive routine isn’t necessarily a bad one, this one is a bit underwhelming and a bit boring to do. Like I said, my favorite move is the Cute Shoulder Wiggle, but all the other moves just serve their purpose and not much else. They tell the story, but they don’t enhance it. They don’t tell us much more about our coach. Again, they fit the song, but it could’ve gone a bit further.
Tumblr media
Our dear coach this time around is Grace, with an... outfit, alright. I know she’s supposed to look like Miss Grande in the actual music video, and I do think they nailed her general vibe on the head. And I would adore the outfit... if that top wasn’t so god-awful. I don’t know what it is about it. I wanna say it’s the blue, but I wouldn’t know what color to replace it with. Maybe I personally would’ve made it less fuzzy, but again, I know why they did it, so at the end of the day I’m at a loss on how to fix what I dislike about it. My absolute favorite part of the outfit is the jacket. It’s played with quite a bit in this map, including going off the shoulder during the aforementioned Cute Shoulder Wiggles.
It might’ve just been the video I linked, but for some reason it felt like the lip synching was way off? The dance moves themselves were fine, and I don’t mind it when dancing along, but it’s a bit jarring either way. Not sure if it’s the video, the fact JD+ is streaming, them reusing the first verse dance (and therefor the lip synch) for the second verse, or if the actress for the coach just didn’t know the song’s lyrics all that well. Either way, I don’t mind it in gameplay, but just something to keep in mind.
Tumblr media
The setting is in the Just Dance High School, a familiar setting for those who have been playing the newer games for a while (sooooo... not me <3), as this school (and specifically the hallway) is the same setting for the Good 4 U map! And it’s no coincidence; at the very end of the map, we find out that Grace and the Good 4 U coach are besties, and close enough that Grace taped up photo booth photos of her and that coach in her locker, showing that... we may have to explain something to Harold again.
Tumblr media
Something very important to note, is the lyrics of the song:
Spend more time with my friends I ain't worried 'bout nothin' Plus, I met someone else We're havin' better discussions I know they say I move on too fast But this one gon' last 'Cause her name is Ari And I'm so good with that
Now, obviously in the original context of the song, Ariana is talking about herself, and is learning to fall in love with herself. Which is very good and very valid! However, if you’ll recall, the name of this praticular coach is Grace. And the lore master confirmed to Just Dance content creator ArianaKatana that Good 4 U’s coach’s name is... Ari! While they aren’t a confirmed couple yet, the lore master teased that they could absolutely be more. So... we got basically official lesbians! Which would make them the game’s first official gay couple unless you’re delusional like me and are white-knuckle gripping onto WanderRose like your life depends on it!! And honestly, if you’ll pardon the joke, good 4 them!!!!!!!
--
GENERAL RATING: THUMBS UP!
SPECIFIC RATING: 6/10
As much praise as I gave the dance, and as much as the dance fits the song, I really do have to dock points for how basic it all ended up feeling. Again, it fits, and I don’t want anyone to walk away thinking this score is from a dislike of the theme. I just know they could’ve done a bit more with it, is all. And I cannot stress enough how much I hate her outfit. However, the song itself is a song I very much enjoy, there are a couple of moves that are very fun to perform, and as I keep repeating, it DOES fit the vibe. And obviously, we love it when lesbians <3 could this count as yuri? I just wish the dance itself went just a tiny bit further.
--
thank u, for reading! As always, I’m not going to ask that you follow me or much else, but I would love to know what you thought about this map! I’m not the final authority, and you should always form your own opinion. And it it disagrees with mine, that’s just human nature! And like I said, I’m going to be ranking EVERY map in the game, so stick around! Have a good day!
~ Mage <3

Sonic Frontiers Review
Hello I finished Sonic Frontiers and now I'm crying. So I think it's the perfect time for me to reviewe this god damn game. Let's just start with one thing I wanted to do from the beginning since I started playing this game. Like I said, so far, my favourite sonic game was Sonic Generations. And I was wondering if this game would ever beat it. So what's the answer to that question? Yes, it absolutely beats Sonic Generations. Sonic Frontiers is officialy my favourite sonic game. Not only, because it has something that I always wanted, which is open world, but because it's really well made game that entertains for hours! Of course, it's not perfect, but I'll get to that later. Let's list positive sides of this game. 1. GAMEPLAY It's honestly really fun, especially with open world formula. Many fans were worried about it, but they did such a great job with it. We have 5 islands where we can run freely and do what we want, stunts, challanges, stages, SO MUCH THINGS. So it never gets boring. And let's be real, who never wanted to run around big fields with Sonic's speed. I did, that's for sure! What I also like is that the open world feels like and actual world. We have days, we have nights and even different weathers! It makes those islands more 'alive'.
Tumblr media
2. STAGES Like I said, many fans were worried about open world, but we got stages too, which is great! And let's be real when it comes to stages in Frontiers. They're not as good as stages in Sonic Generations for example. But in this case, I understand. Because this game is not just stages. There's more they needed to work on. And stages, even if quite short and easy when it comes to red rings, are still fun! And it's fun to fully complete them. 3. MINIGAMES Aside from this normal gameplay where we just run around and complete stages, there are also minigames we can find on our way! Like for example pinball unlocking our way to third Titan, or this weird hacking game or FISHING! Those minigames are simple, but super fun and can really diversify the gameplay. I fell in love with fishing game, because it made me relax when story made me sad :'> Also I love Big.
Tumblr media
4. CHARACTERS The characters were actually fixed!! Are you tired of Amy being only a sonic fangirl? Or Knuckles being a dumb comic relief? Or Tails being a coward? This game fixed that for you. Amy is still crushing on Sonic, but she's this sweet girl that wants to help others and will be stubborn if you're not willing to help. Knuckles is the responsible Guardian of the Master Emerald, but he still likes to crack jokes and just have fun. And Tails is the smart fox he always was, who wants to be truly independent and be his own hero. Eggman is not just a joke anymore, but truly an evil scientist that wants Sonic dead. And Sonic. Sonic is still this chill dude that loves joking around. But he still knows when to stop and get serious. Especially seeing his friends in distress. The moment when he saw that Knuckles is upset and at first wanted to just start with jokes, BUT he stopped himself and listened to him. This was brilliant. The same with Tails. Seeing him as this big older brother cheering up Tails made me really emotional. That's how it's supposed to be. There should be time for fun moments, but also serious things.
Tumblr media
5. SAGE Sage is the new villain. And seeing the previous villain from Sonic Forces, really made me worry. But God, Sage is just so.... so amazing. She was so hostile and cold towards Sonic, trying to just murder him with those giants. But then she started to understand him more and more while the story progressed. And another great thing about her? Her relationship with Eggman. Seeing her call him father and Eggman call her his daughter... We've never seen something like this. We've never seen this side of Eggman. And when she sacrificed herself in the end, I actually wanted to cry. Especially seeing Eggman look into the sky, visibly upset. I never thought I would feel so bad for him. WHY DO YOU HAVE TO HURT ME SO MUCH.
Tumblr media
6. PLOT
It's been a while since Sonic had some interesting plot. Discovering the backstory of the Ancients. Titans. And the Koko. It was so exciting to see more and more of it. Also, why do Ancients look like Chaos? :0
Tumblr media
7. MUSIC
The music in this game is just so good! From the peaceful soundtrack you can hear while running around the islands to exciting soundtracks you can hear while battling Guardians TO EVEN MORE EXCITING SONGS IN TITAN BATTLES. COME ON THOSE ARE MINDBLOWING! Shout out to my favourites: 'Undefeatable', 'Break Throught It All', 'Find Your Flame' <3
8. FIGHTING MECHANICS Sonic was never a fighting game, but this concept works in Sonic Frontiers and it's honestly really great. All the cool moves Sonic can make while battling enemies (of course if you unlock them). It just makes me want to fight those enemies more and more.
Tumblr media
9. SUPER SONIC AND TITANS The last one is the best thing in Sonic Frontiers. Super Sonic, something that the previous game DIDN'T EVEN HAVE. But he returned and absolutely destroyed all fans. Usually Super Sonic was only in final battles in the end of the games, but here, we have 5 super battles! That's just- IT'S A LOT. Not to mention every battle is unique. While fighting Giganto we have so much freedom while flying around and hitting him and doing crazy combos. With Wyvern, we need to be more careful and actually understand this boss to defeat him. With Knight, we also have a lot of freedom, but in the middle, we also need to think a bit to land a hit on him. Overall Super Sonic in Sonic Frontiers is actually portrayed as this powerful being that will literally beat the living shit out of you and slam you into the cliff if you keep messing with his friends.
Tumblr media
So that's all when it comes to positive things (I hope I didn't forget about something). So now the negative things. Like I said, this game is not perfect. 1. THE END The final boss disappointed me and I wanted to make a rant about how it's not even a boss fight, but I've actually read that it's like that only in normal mode. If you have a hard mode, there's going to be a real battle, but a really hard one that will get you an achievement. I- don't know what to say about this. Why delete the whole thing from this one mode? It's the final battle! It should be there, no matter what mode you're playing on. If I didn't read that just now, I would have thought that there's no battle at all and it just ends so fast! ESPECIALLY that beating up Supreme was so easy and fast that even Sonic said 'That's it?'. So I really thought there's more. But I'm gonna say more about it, after I actually play this fight. Maybe my opinion about it will change I dunno. 2. WEIRD CONTROLS OR SOMETHING Overall playing is super fun, but on stages, controlling Sonic is just so weird and hard to control, because he ends up all over the place. I even saw some mods already that fix the issues. 3. 2D SECTIONS Oh my God here we go I've never been a huge fan of 2D sections in modern games even tho there are exceptions where they do work. In Sonic Frontiers we can see 2D sections on some stages or some part of open world. I honestly don't really like them in open world, since we're supposed to feel free there, but if you found yourself in 2D section you need to either turn back or complete it (or fall somehow). I personally sometimes felt trapped when I got into them. But 2D sections in stages is the worst thing. I'm just gonna say it right now. I don't have anything against 2D sections if they work. In Sonic Frontiers... they don't. For some reason Sonic feels just so much slower in them. And it's just... not really fun and I don't understand why it is that way.
Tumblr media
4. LACK OF SOME SONIC'S ABILITIES Why did they get rid of drift? I know they added it on this one stage (or maybe more of them, idk), but drift should be something that Sonic always has, especially since some stages really need this ability. Ok, maybe I get it, there's just not enough buttons yikes- This is also something minor, but what really bugged me is that Sonic can't run on water while boosting. Which makes me sad, because I loved doing that in Generations.
5. CAN'T BATTLE WITH TITANS AGAIN Why, just- WHYYY. Battling with Titans is one of the most exciting things to do in this game! I don't want to play the whole game again just to fight Knight for example. This option should be here, since you could do that in previous sonic games. And yeah, there are saves. You can just save the game before the battle with Titans starts and then just make a new one. But there's only 4 saves. One is autosave. So you only have 3. That's how I ended up with saves with Giganto's fight, Wyvern's fight and also Supreme's fight. But I can't fight again with Knight- I've heard something that they will probably add this feature, but I'm not sure-
Tumblr media
There are probably things I forgot about or they were just so small they don't bug me that much. Overall, positives of this game are much more stronger than the negatives! Sonic Frontiers is definitely one of the best sonic games that ever came out. And personally, it's my favourite from all of them. This game is beautiful and made me so emotional it's not even funny. I wish I could forget it and play it again, because that was truly an experience! Although I'm definitely going to still play it and unlock more and more achievements. And we're actually going to get 3 DLCs so there's still more ahead of us! I really recommend this game to everyone who loves Sonic and recently had a lot of doubts when it comes to his future in modern games. Thank you for reading my review and remember that a lot of things said are very opinionated! You do not have to agree with everything I'm saying! And now....

Time to watch Sonic Prime now :')

The Quarry ch 9/10
Are read mores broken on this thing??
Never mind, I figured it out. Edit: Or maybe not!
Laura ran when the family was distracted by Ryan, which I felt bad for, except she only met Ryan 20 mins ago and doesn’t care about him. So: narratively consistent.
I also didn’t remove the knife from Ryan’s side, because you should only remove the weapon if you are able to care for it immediately (it acts as a stopper for the blood, plus the shape of the blade could exacerbate the wound), which I didn’t think he could… but this game also plays fast and loose with medicine. Because Dylan should be passed out and in shock right now. And shock has a medical meaning that doesn’t mean “so surprised you’re able to walk around like totally chill even though your hand was cut off.”
”Play piano?” YEAH GAME I THINK I’M GONNA PLAY THE PIANO. YEAH. Asshole.
Me: this manipulate the claw with the crane segment has ZERO gameplay?? What the fuck??
Me, twenty seconds later: okay, so it’s got some gameplay.
Still, that gets to the crux of what annoys me most about this game: there’s no fucking gameplay. You can’t lose in a traditional game sense, i.e. be forced to stop playing, which I suppose takes away some of the tension for me. I accept that winning and losing have different definitions in this genre, ie I can only lose by making poor choices, but there’s no tension like, can I manipulate the buttons adequately to survive this scenario. Maybe I am comparing it too much to Heavy Rain, where I could choose an unlikely or dangerous path, but if I were good enough at video games, I could still succeed in it (i.e. preventing Nahman from taking triptocaine).
But there’s a QTE where Laura and Ryan are in the excavation site, and the catwalk breaks, and you have to jump. If you miss it, there is no consequence besides Ryan making an awkward quip. Maybe it affects relationship values (which aren’t tracked, or at least not shown to the player), but it seems like it’s there because the devs realized there hadn’t been any gameplay in a hot minute. Yet Laura fleeing from Max on the island had no QTEs either, and there definitely should have been, especially since the game is clear they are willing to include QTEs with no effect, just to spice up gameplay. I wish there were a million button presses in the crane scene, every time anyone is fleeing anything, I wish conversations were a rhythm game. I want this to be more than a movie where I press a few buttons – I want this to be an actual game.
And so far no set piece has approached Mike going through the Sanitarium. In fact, the only creep I get from this game are the ghosts – but those have been pretty consistent and spooky. The one behind Abi in the storm shelter !
Well, shit. I really thought the game was going to make it all the way through without saying g**** referring to the travelling show. In fact when I saw that it was consistently referred to as the travelling show or side show and a few times as the freak show, I was like, cool! Not bringing any racism into it! Both times it was members of the Hackett family, so maybe it was “look how Evil these guys are,” but still.
I love Max. What a wife guy. Too bad I decided to leave my safe little island and immediately got got by Caleb.
”Eliza was killed in the fire…” Uh, no she wasn’t? I dodged the spike when it blew up and almost hit me? But that does explain the question I immediately had, which was what if you don’t dodge it? Does she fade away before your eyes? [Edit: Even if you dodge that, the implication is she dies walking into the fire after.]
Dammit, screwed up the don’t breathe and Kaitlyn got killed with surprising violence, which was undercut by how goddamn awful her ragdoll looked. The physics keep getting worse and worse, which either means the ending was rushed or it really, REALLY was not meant to be played on PS4. Or both! The subtitles have also gone totally off the rails. They appear at the beginning of the scene then disappear, or reappear later and out of order, or are from a clearly different scenario. My fault for playing a day 1 game, I guess. Well, month 1, with no internet to download patches. [Edit: it took me 5 months to get internet installed in my apartment.]
Anyway, if I get to do the UD thing where I can play through from a chapter of my choosing, I’ll replay chapter 10 and keep Max and Kaitlyn alive. Not sure where the Emma or Jake chapters would slot in, but I don’t miss them. I assume Emma would be kind of Jess-like, where because she is siloed on the island, she has basically one encounter with Max and that’s it.
Can you post up in the lodge alone as Kaitlyn? Because a few times she said something seemingly to herself… then Dylan would walk up and comment, and at least once she responded with the same thing she had just said to herself. There are also definitely seams in other parts of the game where it was meant to swap scenes in and out depending on who was alive.
This is worst in the the fortune telling: “do you want to see the future?” [PAUSE] [SELECTION] “great” [PAN TO CRYSTAL BALL, ELIZA LOOKS LIKE SHE BELONGS IN A DIFFERENT GAME] [PAN BACK] [PAUSE] “that’s just one possible future!” [PAUSE] “now let’s continue the game!” It’s just as bad if you don’t get any cards. “normal patter” [PAUSE] “you didn’t get any?! Asshole!” [PAUSE] “dialogue that doesn’t change and segues back to the game”
You’re welcome, Eliza. :3 But, uh, Dylan and Abi survived?? And Silas and Caleb and Nick.
I was so moved by Eliza’s plea that I declined to shoot Silas, knowing that would mean Travis/Ryan/Laura would die immediately. So yes, I’m definitely going to replay chapter 10, which I earned because it wasn’t me screwing up that led to their deaths. I guess I will argue that I was playing consistently, because showing compassion even when it was not in the best interest of the characters was basically how I chose to play.
That said, my Laura snapped easily and acted first, asked questions later a lot, so killing Silas was probably the right move even in my narrative.
So were the old still and the oil spilled all over the ground of the scrapyard red herrings? Because I really thought I was going to have to blow up the mansion and/or fight off a werewolf by setting things on fire. [Edit: There was a QTE where I had to stop from slipping on the oil in the Hackett’s basement, I think.]
RYAN ERZAHLER?? Ryan the Explainer?? Actually all these names are off the wall. Mountebank (actually that’s a good name for an instagram lifestyle influencer who flogs shitty products)? Blyg?
Aww, the names from the Video Nastys seem to be members of the dev team. That’s cute. :3
Speaking of the Video Nastys, I’d like to know more about their logic. Laura acted pretty adversarial towards Travis the whole time, injecting him with the tranq and strangling his dad. But she didn’t shoot him during her jailbreak and she didn’t shoot his mother in the face. So was that //just enough// to make him trust her?
I’m charmed by the podcast. I enjoyed “hat insurance” and “you don’t lock your doors??!” even on the third listen. They’re cute. :3

Okay something that was stuck on my drafts was just rambling thoughts from when I first finished aini so I'm gonna summarize what I had going on there
Biggest first impression was, surprisingly, just how weird Kizuna was about Mizuki- okay now we get why and I did guess it halfway too that she literally was just like Kizuna's big sis and such but still... Makes sense I got hung up on that, I related to her in a very specific way and this whole situation was so weird to me who does have friends with about the same age difference that I look up to, but the way it develops here it just enables Mizuki to feed into the mindset that she's just not allowed to be a kid anymore because of all the stuff she's gone through but that sucks she's still freaking twelve and all these adults around her don't treat her like it and it's not supposed to be something you question at all like :/
I like the collectables! Silly clothes! I'm glad the dlc ones weren't the only customization, fun unlockable dress-up things are nice and a plus on the experience- the whole gameplay in fact I had a blast with and had no significant complaints to make
The theme of someone needing to be reunited with their "other half" to be "whole" was just never going to be a theme that appeals to me. Everyone being incomplete until meeting someone else is simply not the kind of idea I subscribe to and especially not like romantically, the couples and relationships I have more words on despite being bad at talking through these concepts but one or another it's just not to my tastes so again- was never gonna resonate with a game with that core message all that much is all
Uchikoshi is allergic to sequels, can't embrace a whole new cast nor stick to the original and just follow up on where the last game left off, nope, always a far less satisfying compromise between he two- I wish aini had absolute minimal participation from the old cast, no Mizuki fake out just a flat out new character honestly I would have loved Bibi so much if her story didn't muddle Mizuki's pre established one, stick to an anthology format of new cases or at least keep the dynamics and personalities consistent with the conclusion of the first game I wish Date wasn't annoying I wish he was just Falco chilling out in the background of a random scene where you can interact with him only if you want with no bearing on the case at all hell if you're gonna commit to them still interacting with the story as coworkers have him actually die! Or at least give him and Mizuki an actual reunion!
Entirely up to personal taste again with this one but I miss the slight tinge of horror, the gross gouging out eyes kind of violence because the action flick kind of violence? Bores me to tears. Ryuki got shot and I knew he'd be back- they did a whole all is lost moment actually I think they did that twice with Mizuki nearly losing the battle and getting all beat up and I looked at it and I knew they wanted me to have A Feeling™ over it but it went by so fast, I knew the next beat was her getting back up, none of the lead up to it connected with me enough to make up for the predictable nature of this scene structure, there was very little weight to it and I miss that grim ass feeling that the first game sometimes captured with Saito and the way he operated especially in the paths where he's still in Iris' body by the end and still poses a threat to the cast (this point in my drafts also ended with "man I'm feeling unfulfilled by this piece media I think I'll go finally read Higurashi hopefully that'll make me feel better" and lmao I still haven't and still really want to)

So I reached the timeskip in Dimitri's route and let me say this: those new outfits are *not* it. what the hell happened. ashe went from hella cute to just hellish. Some are just fine but I don't think there's any design I actively appreciate... at least they're all more interesting than the GD cast. except for Mercedes who so far has just been There. I'm also very sad at how my boy Randolph is done dirty in every route apparently. Little guy just wants to be hot and survive, ends up becoming canon fodder because we need Deaths™. At first Dimitri was going to spare him for a bit to ~play with him~ (suggestive look, yes I vaguely wrote a few sentences of that) but then Byleth was like "stfu" and decided to be even more bloodthirsty than Dimitri. chill girl.
At least I finally got Rodrigue on my team! Can't wait for him to die because he has difficult relationships with the cast and wants to repent. So he'll die, probably sacrifice himself or something. ugh
god I was looking at the timeskip designs and got reminded of how hot Hubert suddenly became, and I'm sad that he's only available in one route because he's such a great character.
I ended up recruiting Alois and his supports with Gilbert are nice! I ship them (of course i do). also recruited Cyril because he's adorable and a beast. I have Manuelle and I don't ever remember recruiting her but even though as a unit she's uninteresting, she got 2 Funny Footsteps supports in succession so she's actually great.
I love Edelgard in this route though, Dimitri's like "i'm gonna fuck you up" and she's just ":(" and like. hmph. the angst! It's so obvious she sees the war as the only solution but isn't happy about it. Like I can see why people would flat out hate/not care about her if they only did Verdant Wind, but even Azure Moon makes it pretty clear she's not just a bloodthirsty dictator. girl just wants to stop inequalities which, good for her. good for her!
But Byleth is so weird, like they seem chill most of the time but then suddenly they execute in cold-blood Randolph (AM) or Edelgard (VW), they're so inconsistent. One moment you relate to them and the next you're like "???????"
People can rage on Corrin from Fates all they want but at least Corrin insisted on not killing anyone (...the Gameplay/Story Separation is not great but still). Well Corrin is also a teen/young adult with an actual past and situation while Byleth is just There. so it's weird then that people can actually form relationships with Byleth when they're essentially just... answering what people want to hear.
anyway my opinion on Dimitri is that his haircut still sucks but his outfit... remove the cape and we got something. The route is much more interesting than VW. Also I really like Gilbert. and his relationship with Annette!!!!
see my main issue with FE3H is that it actually isn't wordy enough. there's no elaboration on a ton of things. For example, Gilbert and Annette's paralogue doesn't explicitly say that the two of them can't move, or they'll be attacked. Annette's uncle just says sth like "I can't let you take the sacred weapon" and that's it. there's just one or two lines missing!! and it's the same everywhere! reactions to Sylvain's brother dying? pretty much nothing! Lonato's uprising? Catherine kills him instead of asking what the fuck actually happened. the Death Knight? his identity isn't even clear unless you do Edelgard's route and that's only after an update. a lot of things don't pack nearly enough punch because they needed more scenes. Tomas is Solon? Seteth's like "okay, we don't know why, since when, and we don't really care." There's such a lack of elaboration on *everything*!!!! And I say this when Fates's continent isn't even named! I'm not interested in lore but I *am* interested in interpersonal and conflictual relationships, but if the game doesn't give me enough food to chew on, how am I supposed to be satisfied?
(by the way in this playthrough I defeated the Death Knight everytime, it was fun!)
anyway it was just ramblings and opinions and stuff. I also tried a quick Claude-only run and realized the game isn't made for that lmao (sth sth "Claude isn't available in this chapter" "Byleth is forced to come too")
can't disagree with you on any points! I love fe3h but it def could have more elaboration on all the characters. certainly it's hard with just have how many there are. also I love byleth bc they are so morally dubious lol. I guess people say they seem like a blank character vs like Ephraim, Roy, etc, main characters who were fully fleshed out? but Byleth is what I would be like in that world, blank expression, quiet, just making my own damn decisions because I'm somehow better than everyone lol. btw if anyone could solo a run it would be Claude. bc I get bored of wyvern rider Claude sometimes I like to make him an assassin with allll the movement speed.

Top five dungeons/palaces in the Persona games?
thank you!!!! :D
i'm ngl this is going to be mostly p5 for gameplay reasons,,
5. controversial opinion. mitsuo's dungeon in my favorite in p4. bc it breaks the mold just enough to be refreshing and fun, imo (unlike another dungeon i will not mention that breaks it so much it kinda ruins the gaming experience for me. ahem). also, the gaming terms and pixel aesthetics make it super fun! the boss battle is a bit annoying but easy enough to be bearable. even the shadow confrontation, because it breaks the mold we got used to so far, is interesting and unexpected imo!
4. akane’s jail!!!!!!!!! the aesthetic is SO solid the puzzles are fun (even if it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out the prayer thing) the symbolism is to die for and god. the boss fight. this boss fight is my favorite cutscene+battle combination of the entire persona series probably. it’s just so so cool fr. while i usually hate stealth games the stealth section of this jail was really interesting to get through! i'm a sucker for game sections where you play as someone other than the protagonist tbh lol. also i love foxes
3. the okinawa lab 👀 it’s SO cool it’s such a cool story arc i love how the game basically shifts into horror territory with it all. the vibes are immaculate and the gameplay is fun (minus the cranes. tho they’re a good opportunity to Chill). it’s so different from how fast paced this game is, it’s interesting, and while the story is fun up until then i think it really picks up with that jail. also ryuji said fuck
2. maruki's palace!!!!!! wonderful aesthetic, i love whites and silvers and golds and they combine nicely, but when you switch to the darker black and blue areas it still looks so nice! i like how it feels like an actual research center, even if a futuristic one. i love what it means to the story, obviously. i love that you can have goro on your party using loki there (but that's not really the palace just the arc. still i had to mention it). the fact the distortion is in part based on reality - bc it was supposed to be a research facility until it got scrapped - is so cool imo and gives the distortion more depth. also the puzzles are fun and once you get through the flowers one enough times it's easy okay okay don't @ me. i like puzzles
1. another controversial opinion. maybe it's the angelology enthusiast in me. maybe it's bc i love these puzzles so much. maybe it's bc i'm incorporating it into my fic rn so it's dear to my heart. (no it's just the puzzles probably bc the other things came to be BECAUSE i love this palace sm) but mementos depths is my absolute favorite palace in p5 and fav dungeon in the series. i love killing god in the end. i love the shadows there bc they're all from the mythology i probably know most about and have names in my first language(!!!!!!!!). the aesthetic is so so solid and i love how it ties the story together. mementos depths my beloved <3
send some top 5/top 10 asks?
