incidentally, for anyone wondering about the current state of me playing vault hunters: I’ve been playing on a server with some friends for a few months and am level 89, have several absurdly expensive endgame items unlocked, and am going “I mean I technically don’t NEED a fission reactor, but I feel like there’s a point in every bee’s life where really, why not harness the unlimited power of nuclear energy?”

see the interesting thing is that while 'Al art' continues to improve aesthetically it also continues to be made by and for people who don't actually *create* art, just *look* at it. and it's been so interesting to watch, because it's such a wild insight into what people who don't draw are seeing when they look at pictures, what they care about, what they don't notice.

some things (faces, eyes, lighting, hands) have been pretty much perfected, or at least reached a point where they don't 'look wrong' upon first glance, but i still have yet to be surprised to find out an image was Al-generated because there's such a clear lack of artistic process behind any of it. if you look at any part of the 'art' and ask yourself 'why and how would someone draw this like that' there's never an answer. there's nothing there.

i have a panic disorder too ! whenever i have an attack i always get through it best when someone holds me really tight & i thought it might be cute if u did a doodle of two people or animals doing that? like a really really tight hug :) if not that’s ok but it’s a cute idea & i hope thinking about it makes u smile !

it does not look the tightest, but tight hugs are truly the best sometimes!

btw I forgot the name but they have these amazing plushies my partner got me that are weighted. their long arms are weighted too so it almost feels like a hug. good way to help when you don’t have someone at the moment :’)

truthfully i do think the narrative (embraced both by fandom & by spike) that the scoobies 'kicked buffy out of her own house' is flawed to say the least. what actually happens is that buffy refuses to stay and watch the potentials be led by faith. so the potentials & the scoobies, all of whom have every right to not want to be led by someone who just led them into a trap and who seems utterly unwilling to listen to their opinions and quite frankly who has not been very nice to them at all for the past few months, say: okay, then leave. so she leaves. i would hardly call that 'kicking her out'. she couldn't handle their decision, so she threatened to leave, and dawn called her bluff. and honestly she comes back a much better, more well-adjusted, and emotionally balanced person so. you know. it kinda seems like it was for the best! i know btvs fandom is very protective of buffy but the truth is that everyone needs to get bonked on the head with a rolled-up newspaper sometimes. even buffy. especially season 7 buffy

I saw you mentioned cricut machines in your last post. I've been considering getting one, but there seem to be a whole lot of models and I don’t know anything about them — do you have any tips?

I have the Explore Air 2, and it's just fine.

I did what I usually do when it comes to buying nonessential tech--figure out what I need it to do (in this case, cut vinyl and paper in formats up to 12 in wide) and then read a few articles about the best [whatever tech item] of the year is for several years running, avoiding sponsored articles. If I'm looking at a specific brand, like Cricut, I look up "versus" style articles, which compare the pros and cons of different models by that brand. For Cricut, the "Maker" line is their highest-end machine, intended for people who do serious production. If you're not doing a small business level of cricut work, it's probably overkill. The "Explore" is the midrange machine, for casual crafters.

I look for anything along the lines of "The new model fixes a major problem that the previous model had, which was..." If the current model is just a faster, shinier version of the old one, I'm getting the prior model--it'll be less expensive and for a tool I'm only using intermittently, speed isn't a high priority. The current Explore 3 model is running $300-$400; the Explore 2 can be found for about $200.

I think it does the job well. I actually already have a larger-format vinyl cutter--my brother and I went halfsies on a commercial scale machine we've affectionately named Arty Boi--but the cricut is faster to set up, more portable, and I like the grippy-mat material system. It does a good job for my needs, which are really pretty simple.

A disability take I have been thinking about is that if companies refuse to provide accessibility options/adequate accessibility options (which is shitty, don't get me wrong), the very very least they can do is make it as easy as possible for people to make tools for accessibility possible. It's shitty enough when products are not accessible at its base (like a video game controller, for instance), but it's even worse when it's made as difficult as possible for people to do things to make accessibility an option.

“All you need to do is strike! They can’t fire all of you!” Hm. Do you know how strikes are broken? Do you know what a strike fund is? Do you know the work that goes into maintaining a strike? Do you know what scabs are?

I appreciate the energy but strikes without planning and funding are like holding a gun to your head threatening to shoot and your boss going “ok do it.”
