Commission 07: Pre-Timeskip Nami! So happy to draw my favorite Straw Hat! One of my favorite outfits of hers is the one in Water 7~

I think my favorite thing about pre-timeskip Sanuso is that they are 17/19 years old. They are. So young. Teenagers. They know nothing about love and. And they are so stupid. Don't get me wrong, they still are. But they were even MORE stupid, if that's even possible.

And I love saying they started crushing on each other around Skypiea but-- Just imagine these two idiots already giggling and kicking their feet right after. I dunno. Arlong Park. Extremely early. They literally just met. And you have this casanova-wannabe having the realization™ about maybe perhaps kind of liking boys. And the other idiot who has a type™ (rich, classy, kind blondes) and won't stop asking himself why because Sanji is annoying af. He genuinely doesn't understand why he likes Sanji. Seriously. He hates it. And Sanji's sexuality crisis lasts between like, zero seconds and absolutely nothing because he sees Usopp smiling at him and his mind goes "prettyprettyprettyprettyboy" and there's no use trying to fight his demons (bisexuality).

The funniest thing about this is that they won't stop arguing like. From the moment they see each other. Usopp understands why he likes Sanji, okay? He is a pretty boy. He is also kind when he isn't being a complete jerk. He is kind of cute when he talks about the All Blue. He helps people whenever they need to. But then Sanji says something stupid and Usopp has the "fuck he is so annoying I wanna make out with him I mean---" crisis like, three times a day. While Sanji, since he has stopped fighting his demons, is a mix between "I will get over this crush fr fr he is just a guy" and "haha maybe if I save him he will give me a kiss on the cheek haha that'd be nice hahahahahahaa *gives in to gay thoughts for an hour until he sets the kitchen on fire*"

Sanji gets Usopp's goggles back in Alabasta because he is so down bad he just wants Usopp to thank him. Usopp is burning with jealousy in Whisky Peak when all those girls flirt with Sanji. They are both like "teehee it's cold out here we should probably sleep together just for warmth right hahaha". They spend all of Alabasta being annoying and everybody hates it. Vivi thinks they are dating. Sanji explains Usopp the 'Mr.Prince' trick and puts his glasses on only because Usopp thinks it's soooo cool. And Usopp thinks it is soooo fucking stupid but he wants to hype him up because, again, he is seventeen and he wants the pretty (and very stupid) blondie to kiss him.

When they get to Skypiea it is. The fucking worst. That is peak crushing on each other. It is not even realizing they are crushing, it is extreme "if we aren't next to each other constantly I think I will die" type of thing but "we can't tell each other how we feel bc what if it's not mutual". So they sleep next to each other. They hold hands. They pretend like they don't like it. They are dying from embarrassment. Sanji tells Usopp he doesn't care if he dies because he is having an "I need to look straight" moment and Usopp is having a "fuck why did I fall for a straight guy" moment. Then Sanji saves them, because he is like that but also because he is. Head over heels. Usopp takes care of his wounds right after and they are both so. So nervous.

Like-- Sanuso but they are crushing early in the story and they are both SHAKING every time they talk to each other. Sanji tries to act sooo cool and Usopp is like "haha yeah you're sooo cool" while regretting every decision he has ever made because why the hell does he want to fuck a blond loser.

By the time they get to Water 7 everything is more like. Genuine and romantic and they are basically in love with each other at this point. So I don't need to explain anything but. But. But Usopp in Thriller Bark thinking he is so cool with his little vampire hunter outfit and Sanji being down bad for him because he is, indeed, very cool. But Usopp is also having his teenage Conan Gray 'Heather' moment because Sanji won't stop saving Nami and Usopp just really really really wants Sanji to save him instead but okay fucking blond guy I hate him I hate him I hate him---

They both have their moments of screaming btw. Sanji finds moments alone to go to the kitchen and just. Scream inside of pots. Scream inside of glasses. Scream inside of cabinets. He likes Usopp so much it's physically unbearable and Usopp won't stop spending time with mosshead so of course he is angry. And Usopp goes to the boys' quarters to scream in pillows and the lockers and he is so stressed.

Sanji tells Usopp to taste his food before anybody else (please I am making this for you this food is for you love me love me love me love me) and Usopp constantly tells Sanji his stories because nobody else listens to him (do you think I'm cool please think I'm cool please please). Sanji has so many nosebleeds every day but they are not exaggerated they are. They are just there. He will constantly have nosebleeds and he lies and says it's just a weird condition because saying "please let your hair down more I am in love with you" is weird. And Usopp constantly bumps into walls and shit like that when he is trying to make Sanji look at him.

Their crushes on each other take like, at least, 80% of their time. It is insane and ridiculous and awkward and they are blushing 24/7 and kicking their feet and screaming and they like like each other. They don't say it like normal people. They like like each other. Because they're. Stupid. And young. And they make so many mistakes but they are growing up together. And I think that's beautiful and I adore them <33

WAIT WAIT WAIT EDIT: Not to mention the first time have sex. Not going into details bc. That's for another post I want to make. But they definitely had sex like. Before Sabaody. i got about a million answers for law tbh, but i love that he is, canonically, a LOSER. i love loser men lol. also i love that he has a weakness for things that are cute, like he’s so bad at pretending he’s scary when he rants about his comic books and can’t resist a big, fluffy polar bear. 

for zoro, i enjoy how he always treats girls with a softness that men don’t receive. we see it countless times when he helps nami or robin or hiyori in wano and i looove that. like, yassss my gentle himbo !!!!!

3. least favorite canon thing about this character?

i hate that law is quite literally the most traumatized he could possibly be. like bro is fucked up and i hate seeing him suffer !!! 

i dislike how serious they made zoro post timeskip, like i understand why it happened, but i miss his laugh and smile pre timeskip 😫

I absolutely LOVE the promo video for Vol. 106, and the Egghead Island arc in general so far. It actually gives me early Dragonball vibes, and a lot of the retro sci-fi aesthetic looks inspired by Bulma's inventions and the Android Saga. The character designs, outfits and worldbuilding in this arc are top notch, and it feels like a good callback to the early days of island-to-island Straw Hat adventures.

I also love the fact that we're getting to see more about Kuma and Bonney, they're two very interesting characters whose connection to each other seems pretty intriguing.

Not to mention, CP9 makes a return! Rob Lucci was one of my favorite pre timeskip antagonists, and it's great to see him back with his awakened devil fruit powers (even if they did seem a bit underwhelming against the literal sun god, Luffy.)

We're also getting to know more about Devil Fruits and the fundamental origins of the One Piece world, and that gives a very endgame feel to the story currently. To have so many characters and plot points concentrated in one arc makes it feel like we're reaching the end of the story, which is both exciting and saddening.

Alright here’s my unwarranted opinion on post-timeskip designs.

(Not including the fact that they just made everyone’s skin tones lighter for no reason cause that’s complete bullshit but we’re gonna talk about their other design features).

Luffy: I love it. Don’t get me wrong I love his stupid vest + flip-flop combo in pre-timeskip but his fluffy shirt and sash are just so him without taking away all his silliness (also adding the yellow sash ties way better to the ASL theme because the yellow in the hat is more tied to Roger/Shanks while the sash is purely related to him and his brothers with is great!)

Zoro: no notes. I love how Oda took one his eyes and refused to explain. I love what that means for Zoro’s character. He doesn’t think about his injuries in that way, he just moves forward. Other than that tho, the boots? The coat? The sash? (Every gets a sash now-a-days) I love that he kept his haramaki because it looks so comfy!

Nami: ….I feel like they could have done a bit more…Don’t get me wrong I love the long hair but her outfits just kinda became bikini top + jeans which not only look uncomfortable but isn’t half as stylish as Oda thinks it is.

Usopp: My guy leveled up. Abs, pants, no-shirt, little facial hair, Usopp’s a fucking man now guys and I’ve got respect for him. Also love his pop greens I just wish he also used other chemical combinations like he did pre-timeskip.

Sanji: they’d tried to make him a big strong man like Zoro, but I don’t think that was ever the appeal of him. He’s meant to be lean so buffing him up was just kinda stupid. Got rid of his pants chain and all his silly undershirt colors.

Chopper: Controversial opinion! I don’t mind his post-timeskip design. He looks cute! I don’t like that they replaced the hat that his dad gave him (I feel like we never talk about that! He has a different hat now! How do you get a new ‘dead dad’ hat?!?) Now he’s got a little stripped shirt, and his heavy point looks a lot better. I do not like how they lean on Kung-fo point so heavily when he has so many other forms for fighting (horn point is my favorite).

Robin: What. Why did they- HER HAT?!? HER BANGS?!?? What the fuck happened in the revolutionary army to do this to my favorite women?!? Give her back her hat, give her back her bangs or I swear to god.

Franky: Also controversial opinion!(?) I don’t hate his bigger body. I wished we got more of his pre-timeksip form because I love his greasy dad look but post-timeskip does a lot for giving Franky a 2 year long power-up in a way that he would. UPGRADES PEOPLE, UPGRADES!

Brook: I love it. His been living in star-dome being flamboyant as all hell and so of course he comes back with a diva-boa, some $10 star glasses, a plastic crown, and strange old man pants. I love formal peepaw but I also love weird party peepaw. I also think the guitar was a good way to make him seem big and aggressive while the violin has the silent, deadly elegance.

All and all I think a lot of us just missed the pre-timeskip style which is fair! I love how pretty the animation gets in Wano but there was bit of an awkward faze where the studio was still trying to figure out how silly vs how pretty they wanted everything to look.

I think it's a tie between Ingrid and Felix ngl. Okay and shout-out to Dimitri, he has an eyepatch, that means I have to stan, I'm the one asshole who loves characters who wear an eyepatch.

But.

Okay, Ingrid. She's not one of my faves, but I adore her post-skip design. I think it works both as a Faerghan design, with the fur, the colour palette, the details, and as a really pretty inheritor of previous Pegasus Knights designs ! Which makes it so fantastic to me ! I adore that part !

Felix.. has a bit of a weirder one but. idk. The spats are so good as a detail. I love that he is still clearly with the Faerghan palette and the fur and I own a hoodie inspired by his top half so I really genuinely love the design. But I also love that he has a more saturated colour palette compared to the others. Makes him both fit in and stand out and it's an excellent design, love that !!

Uuuhhh I'll have to go with F!Byleth. It just feels like more of a mess next to M!Byleth's design ? I think she could be cute, it's just that her design looks a bit like a mish-mash of things that don't quite gel together the way I want it to in the end :c

... I don't think it's that controversial, but Bernadetta. I just ?? Don't ?? understand the direction they went with with her post-skip design. It doesn't look like something someone like her would wear ? the haircut looks strange ?? Overall I think it's a pretty bad one, and it's not like it looks like it's on purpose like Lorenz' pre-skip haircut.

I just think it ends up looking really off. A bit inspired by older games archers and snipers, but, idk, it really doesn't work with Bernadetta's personality imo, and it just doesn't look that great to me T-T

Er, I know everyone dislikes him but my least favorite playable character is probably Gilbert. Mostly because he sort of replaced Dedue (who I like much better) as second-in-command after the BL timeskip. I wouldn't say I hate him so much as find him boring.

What is your favorite pre-timeskip character design or outfit? most characters are wearing uniforms pre-ts and none of them Really stand out to me (though im always biased towards dimitri). i really like rhea's design tho! and seteth is one of my favourites, though he doesn't actually change post-ts of course. same goes for hanneman - i wish they'd removed the coat though, im not a big fan of how it obscures a lot of his silhouette and suit, feels like a waste. 32. What is your favorite post-timeskip character design or outfit? man this is such a hard question bc i genuinely think SO many of the ts designs go so hard. in terms of character development dimitri's high lord design represents what he's been through and where he is mentally very well, so even if it isn't very ostentatious, it is one of my favourite designs. other favourites are claude's barbarossa (speaks for itself) and ignatz and felix - the latter two are very nicely detailed, with pleasing colour palettes, and have unique vibes to them that i think really add to the characters. 33. What is your least favorite (or hated) pre-timeskip character design or outfit? i hate f!byleth's outfit so much. like why does it look like that. they coulda stuck her in the same stuff as m!byleth, which is pretty decent! but nooo we have to show midriff and wear a fucked up pantyhose with hotpants. ok. whenever i play as her bc i want to marry some guy i have her wear anything but her standard getup. 34. What is your least favorite (or hated) post-timeskip character design or outfit? i don't hate it per se but i think leonie got a pretty serious downgrade. i understand keeping her clothing simple, in line with her background, but it does make her look kind of boring next to the other units and i wish they kept her hair short. uhh raphael is also boring so im not a huge fan of that either. also! im still disappointed we didn't get timeskip designs for church of seiros characters, massive letdown imo. and why didn't they? they're guaranteed present in ss war phase so it makes zero sense to me that they never got an upgrade. of course the students' designs are changed to show that they've gotten older but it's not like people who are already adults don't change within the span of five years - especially if there's a war going on. absolutely incomprehensible to me that seteth (literal ss house leader you cannot change my mind) never got an upgrade.

Favorite Nami outfits?

I love Nami's style and I think that if I started mentioning all the outfits I like, I would never finish this post, so I'll try to make a top 5/10!!

1- Whole Cake Island (1st dress)

Look at her go!!! This is by far my favorite Nami outfit. Perhaps it's just that WCI is my favorite arc, but I just love her. I love the Hansel and Gretel energy. I love her little hat. I love the ribbon on her back. I love the colors. I love her silly hair. I love her. And she wears it in one of my favorite scenes in the whole show, so of course I love her outfit here.

2- Film Red (1st Outfit)

Literally the lesbian flag, she couldn't be more obvious. The closet is glass. 100% something I'd wear. I love the summer vibes. I love the glasses. The lil drawings my beloveds. The earrings? The boots? The shirt around her waist? The top? The hair???? I absolutely love this!!

3- Wano-Egghead

She looks absolutely stunning! Once again, literally something I'd wear. This is probably in my closet. I love the colors! I love the overall! I love her undone hair! I just love her. I'm so sad it's an outfit that doesn't last longer.

Outfit is either Dimitri or Claude. Dimitri's is soooo soldier-esque, and I like how it doesn't stand out that much at first until you actually put him side-by-side with other characters. That's also why I like Claude's - kinda more so with him, in that regard. And for Claude, ngl his has a bias cuz I thought he was wearing the girl's uniform when I first played it and that image kinda stuck with me lol

Design is Marianne! It says so much about her at just a glance and I really like that :)

Outfit's gotta go to Drip King Dimitri. That bigass pimp coat he gets just looks SO cool. Edelgard's feathers on her Emperor outfit are also chef's kiss.

Seteth is the obvious answer. Someone wrote SUCH a good meta on why his outfit is attractive and I cannot for the LIFE of me find it again... (Update: I found it!!!) But I remember it was something to the effect of his outfit having such a nice blend of simplicity/good masculine silhouette and also enough intricacy/detail to be interesting and give a bit of insight into his personality... Anyway men in circlets = good. Love me a man in a circlet.

Student-wise, I love Mercedes and her shawl. That would be me. I want to be that cozy.

It's hard to riff on anyone's pre-timeskip outfit because most of them are in uniform, but I really don't like Dorothea's little hat, I was happy to see it go lol 😂

Flayn!!!!!!!! Why?? Is she?? Still wearing?? A school uniform??? When the school has been closed for five years??????? Nintendo pls I am foaming at the mouth. The lack of timeskip designs for any of the CoS/faculty characters (and Byleth) makes me sad, but Flayn especially grinds my gears lol.
