remembered this very old au concept i’ve had since i was tiny watching ninjago for the first time… it completely unravels everything i enjoy about zane in the early seasons and i refuse to think of the necessary rewrites atm but i needed to make at least this one scene exist. can an au be naught but a single panel that makes me Sad?

ALSO for your angst dpxdc consideration: danny would absolutely still be considered a meta. the term "meta" is used in a very vague, umbrella way where basically anyone who isn't a normal human is a meta. so even without the proper meta gene, danny would still be considered a meta by basically everyone (especially bruce). canonically speaking, danny isn't just a normal booooo kinda ghost - he also has some insane powers (like his ghost wail!) so he'd be considered a person with superpowers and therefore a meta.

so when you're writing dpxdc fics, please consider this! danny would be a meta in the dcu! kick that kid out of gotham!!!!

Idk if this is going to make any sense, but I always feel like there's something missing when I read thoughts about sskk and it really is the impact Kyouka has on them.

Like, a lot of it is "look at the impact Atsushi and Akutagawa have on each other" and "they are so similar at their cores" which is true! And essential for any bsd partner dynamic! But Kyouka also has commonalities - she has Atsushi's general wonder, simple wants and joys, and desire to be helpful and kind, but also Akutagawa's laser focused objectivity, initial lack of questioning orders, and straightforward ruthlessness when required.

But a lot of the external influence on sskk I see mentioned is Dazai and Chuuya's... which I get, because they're the previous double black, but also Chuuya is very minorly involved by proxy only, and while Dazai undeniably is at the heart of sskk conflict (and it's good to analyze in depth!!!), I feel it's understated how much it was actually Kyouka who kickstarted the development between them - Atsushi was brand-new to the Agency, but saving Kyouka cemented his mindset of proving his worth and also gave him someone to look out for - his position became less fragile from that point on and more permanent. Her mix of kindness and darkness also forces Atsushi in the Guild arc to reassess the idea that people are either "good" or "bad". (He's working on this still, but his judgements are becoming much more nuanced than at the beginning.) And as for Akutagawa... I have a lot of thoughts on their dynamic and how I really don't think there's a whole lot of bad blood there anymore after my all-time favourite scene where they fight in Cannibalism arc - but all I will say is that he legitimately thought what he was doing would make her strong enough to survive, and both Kyouka and Atsushi telling him this is wrong, that people can't live being beaten down like that forces him to reassess his own situation in the Hawthorne and Mitchell fight. (He still has a ways to go, but I seriously hope he eventually realizes that his treatment by Dazai was horribly unnecessary and cruel.)

But what's great is that Atsushi and Akutagawa influence her development too! I don't even need to get into Atsushi's: he believes in her potential and sees her as the young girl she is - not a weapon but a person. She starts off pretty much attached to him and only him, but as time goes on, she starts to adopt a more positive mindset and becomes more confident making decisions as a result of his faith in her. With Akutagawa, she is, like Atsushi, forced to reassess others, especially after he tells her he's glad for her having found that will to live. Kyouka is unable to continue fighting him after that, and I get the sense she saw him as a person there, instead of only the man who harmed her. I also find it really interesting that she has no shame or concern about her mindset aligning much more closely with his, to the point where she'll work with him if necessary.

This is a bit of a mess but really it's one long-winded ramble on how I loved these three working together in Dead Apple and would love to see them working and fighting alongside each other again. I know, I know, this is probably not going to happen because it's supposed to be about sskk as a duo but consider:

Another favourite quote day! I can't write anything better than what cliozaur and dolphin has written but I'll throw in my meager two cents:

All of Enjolras' "named" kills are always done in response to the death(s) of the men around him, thus embodying the whole concept of Justice; only killing when he has to. And every time he does it, it pains him more.

"He might be your brother" / "He is" line can be talked about forever and ever til the end of time; a direct reference to Hugo's previous mention of:

Civil war—what does that mean? Is there a foreign war? Is not all war between men, war between brothers? (4.13.3)

I don't think I have to point out the similarities in the language comparing the artillery sergeant to Enjolras: blond, mid-20s, a "charming young man" who are both capable of violence. He is practically shooting himself then; an even bigger foreshadowing of his fate. And Combeferre trying to dissuade him; I'm not entirely sure why he puts Enjolras through such a sad moral dilemma- perhaps he's facing the same one himself and is just trying to convince both of them that it did not be done? (After all, "the good must be innocent".) Alas, what is necessary must be done, and only Enjolras has the strength to do it, even when it (literally) kills him to.

Always thinking about a genre aware Maglor kidnapping the twins as a particularly self-destructive way of escaping the story he’s trapped in. I think he’d absolutely be the type of person to appreciate the supposed “poetic justice” of his “foster sons” eventually killing him—it would strike a nice balance between satisfying the “audience,” aka whatever part of him that believes it would be appropriate for him to have such a cruel end, and establishing that he wasn’t pure evil despite everything (the children he raised destroyed him = he had enough decency to raise them to be capable of striking him down).

Even if the twins’ own ideas about the concept of kinslaying would inhibit them from giving him a “clean end,” an absolute exit from the story, he spends his days during and after the War of Wrath secretly hoping for some kind of recompense from them. A singer views the world in terms of linear stories, requiring endings to give it meaning. He orphaned the twins and raised them to stand up for themselves, he taught them everything he knew, surely they will repay him by making him into a defeated villain and thus finally introducing some degree of fairness into his life-narrative? 

(But Elros could never confine himself to rules and conventions, and Elrond hasn’t spent years teaching himself to be a healer only to be trapped in the avenging-angel role that his captor/mentor has ascribed to him. The next time they meet, a sizeable part of his initial kindness stems from spite. Maglor took the twins because he was looking for a sufficiently poetic end. Elrond feels sorry for him, but he also adamantly refuses to give him any of the satisfaction.)

ngl i ship kaishin both romanticly and platonically. they are absolutely hilarious together and would be a menace to society either way. and i love that for them. did i always think that it would be hilarious if they were cousins? yes am i surprised that they are cousins? no am i disappointed in how they went about it? yes. am i surprised? no

detco has been running way too long. if it was like doremon or shin-chan it would make sense to keep it going for so long but it's not. I have been thinking for a while that gosho is gonna ruin it by stretching it out so much. hell, he already has at so many points. Detco has many plot holes. the timeline itself is a Jupiter-sized plot hole. I am guessing they are at this point trying to close some of the plot points and hence the "Kaishin are cousins". like that man is trying to make us believe he had everything planned out from the beginning and trying to tie a neat little bow on everything. which is a big fat lie. he is ruining some of the better parts of his own writing. (kudos and kurobas, the rivalry. frenemies) I know most at least half of us were aware that Kaishin could very well be cousins. it's not like 100% outta the left field. maybe like 80%. there were a few vague hints over the last few years that could go either way. not to mention gosho's tendency over incest couples. but we all ignored that cuz its been 3 decades. like come on dude. Gosho has been hovering over the fence over kaishin over the last few years (pretty sure that's when he thought about it). he couldn't make a decision and now they are shoving it down our throat. so much poor planning. smh.

and if you hate kaishin, that's your prerogative but please don't make others feel bad about it.

or you get people who do ship it but only in the gooner dumbing-it-down-to-hardcore-porn way where they romanticize and get off to abuse and r*pe (these people are just gross sick individuals and i hope they go extinct)

and the few people who do see the emotional depth in the homoerotic minutes renkaza spent together and the potential in that for top tier doomed yaoi are few and far in between and i rarely find good fics that aren't just insanely ooc porn
