I've finished the episode and I am literally crying. No, this is not an exaggeration, I am actually crying and I don't think I've literally straight up cried for an episode like this since 'Since your parting' and I'm crying much more than I cried back then. It was beautiful, thank you David Productions, it was perfect. It is now my favorite story in the remake now (it was already my favorite in the manga anyways).
I've already analyzed the story entirely here but I want to talk more about my favorite bits and addition in the remake (and other stuff)..
Nozomi's diary entry at the start was done so beautifully. The vibe which comes across is so soft and innocent, perfectly showing of Nozomi's pure heart. The soft coloring, the music, how they showed the writing, her voice acting (and the snow globe 😭) It honestly felt like I was watching another anime..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of the music, it seems like they made new BGM for this episode and let's just say, it's perfect..
..and the animation quality is just superb..
Oh my gosh, the way Nozomi becomes sad when he's unable to hold her hand... poor Nozomi :'(
Ataru commenting on how the scarf has his initial on it. As an artist, I can say it make people really happy when someone else points out the details in their work so I'm sure it made Nozomi really happy too..
Also, I love the colors for everything Nozomi made. I think it's a combo of the of original anime and manga's versions, which is very cute.
I love the addition of people not being able to see Nozomi, making Ataru seem like a loon. It makes him look stupid (while also wearing winter accessories during summer) but he doesn't care..
The whole date is so damn cute by the way, I think I was already tearing up by this point..
The whole moment where Nozomi was in the dark, I was literally screaming for Ataru to come out and be with her cuz I couldn't stand seeing her like that.. the poor girl..
Nozomi's soft smile as she rests in peace.. and now I'm crying again...
Tumblr media
One detail I love which isn't remake original is how proud Sakura and Cherry are of Ataru after the date, like they didn't have much faith in him about him not breaking her heart at first but now they are very much proud of him..
"I'm gonna keep it on a little longer."
Tumblr media
YEAH I AM NOT OKAY
The way Lum looks at him in the final scene.. You just know this is when she fell in love with him all over again..
"Maybe I should become a ghost too."
"What? Don't be stupid."
😭😭😭
Yup, I'm crying the second time after rewatching it (for writing this post)..
This is actually now one of my favorite episodes of all time now, no kidding. Ataru Moroboshi, you very sweet boy, I love you so very much..

Celebrating AlHaitham Day!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Warnings: Spoiler on Haitham's Bday Dialogue (Tweaked it a bit), Nicknames for s/o (my lil bookworm), Gender neutral reader, OOC Alhaitham sry ill prolly remake this
a/n: Happy Birthday to the one and only akademia scribe, AlHaitham 🌱! Posting my first fic on Haitham's bday! Hope you like it!
Tumblr media
Prologue: You were living on Alhaitham's abode as well as Kaveh for a long period of time. He was basically one of your friends before becoming your s/o. You were one of those few people that can understand how Alhaitham mind works as well as know his past. You wanted to surprise Alhaitham on his birthday, one that isn't too grand, just for him to experience, since he's special to you.
------
Alhaitham woke up finding his house empty of bickering noise that usually wakes him up everyday. He went out to the kitchen, seeing pre-brewed coffee, plates with butter chicken and pita pockets, and a small mint green colored note that says "Good morning Alhaitham! It's your birthday is it not? Well happy Birthday! I know you don't celebrate your birthdays too grand so we I made you some butter chicken, pita pockets, and I even pre-brewed your favorite coffee! I apologize beforehand as something came up with Kaveh's project, and he asked for my assistance early in the damn morning, so I couldn't greet you when you woke up, nor I think we can't celebrate your birthday a little later. I really apologize, I'll make up to you really!" He read your note with a very small smirk in his face, although the smirk was washed away by a hint of sadness as he could not see your face early in the morning nor even spend time with you later. It is true that both of you were working on a project despite you being a Spantamad scholar and Kaveh as a Kshahrewar scholar. Alhaitham went on his original routine, after his morning coffee and ate the food that you made, he scurried to his office to see application forms piled up on his desk, after minutes of rejecting majority of the proposals, he went to the library to quietly read books.
You and Kaveh didn't actually do his near-due-project, both of you were preparing for a surprise for Alhaitham, since you knew that he hasn't experienced being surprised even when he was little. You knew that this was either a hit or miss situation, but you already decided that whatever Alhaitham might say, you wouldn't take it to heart. "Y/n? Y/n! Are you listening to me?" Kaveh shook you as clearly you weren't listening to him. "Sorry, I was deep in thought, what was it?" you gave Kaveh an apologetic look. "Ah! I was asking what food should we buy later, and the cake, the decor-" "Kaveh, I'm sure Alhaitham doesn't want a grand surprise, lets just make it simple? Simple decor like party streamers, and Alhaitham isn't really picky with food so we can probably make Lambad cook up some fish roll and ask some specialty from our friends, like Nilou, Cyno, Dehya, and Tighnari!" you cut Kaveh as you were walking down the Grand Bazaar "Right, Do you think they'd even agree to that? As that man clearly has no sense of emotion! Not even sense of style nor design! Did you see how he took off the magnificent piece of..." "Kaveh not right now....." Kaveh begins to rant how both of you were preparing for a guy that he clearly hates.
Alhaitham on the other hand, still is on the library, reading his usual range of books. His reading pace is quite slower than normal though. His mind is quite clouded today, as there are times that he thinks about you being unusually unavailable and he's probably thinking of increasing Kaveh's rent in the process. He shook his head, his irrational thoughts getting into him. He actually looks up to you a lot, and you actually gave him the key of feeling emotions, not that he'd give up rationality of course! It's not wrong to say that you made him feel emotions he's not used to feel. Alhaitham noticed that it's passed his office hours, so he packed up and made his way home.
While AlHaitham was spending his last minutes at the library, You and Kaveh were decorating his house; the place was quite tidy, party streamers were hung up, and a variation of food was across the table. You even manage to whip up some gifts from your friends.
Kaveh was on the watch, he saw Alhaitham coming home, he hurriedly sprinted towards the house signaling you "Y/N! He's coming!" he said as both of you hid behind the table.Alhaitham noticed Kaveh's stare from afar and he knew that something was up but he kept it to himself and let Kaveh do his thing.
When Alhaitham was on the doorstep, getting his keys, he could sense something was fishy. He turned the keys, opened the door, switched on the lights only to hear you and Kaveh yelling out "SURPRISE!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALHAITHAM!" For once, Alhaitham was stunned and speechless, however that quickly changed and went back into his usual cold demeanor. "Wouldn't it better to save your enthusiasm on my birthday, to everyday of your lives? In that case Kaveh wouldn't cram his architectural projects and you to wake up early every single morning" Alhaitham said, as a small smile crept his face. "HEY!!" "I sometimes wake up early, mind you!" You both shouted at Alhaitham.
All three of you were hanging out on the living room, talking and chatting how the day went. You noticed how Alhaitham was a bit more quiet than before so you decide to approach him.
"Hey? Everything alright, Haitham?" you questioned him while wearing a worrying look
"It seems so, what made you ask?"
"Well you're more quiet than usual..."
"Mhm? Nothing gets passed by you, doesn't it? Well to be frank, I just don't know how to respond in surprises like this, since I didn't really ask for it" Alhaitham bluntly says.
"Oh wait did we...did I upset you? Sorry I just really want you to experience being-" Alhaitham cupped your cheeks.
"Nonsense, my little bookworm, I just didn't expect you to surprise me, let alone have Kaveh to help you, I apologize if I didn't make myself clear enough" he continues to cup your cheeks and he gives a little peek at Kaveh before giving you an Eskimo kiss. You blush at the action he made and you remembered you still have one surprise left. "Haitham wait...I have something to show you" You led Alhaitham at the backdoor of his house, "I know this wouldn't really be that special to you since...." you opened the door, revealing a small picnic area under the starry skies. "I know... I know you're going to say that stars are just big chunk of rocks on the outer space, and the light reflects on them so you we can see them...but!! I really want to spend this time with you...for once! Under the beautiful night sky!" You gave him a look that's hopeful, he made a small smile, thinking you wouldn't notice and said "The night sky indeed does not appeal to me..." you frown "However... the light from the moon and the stars above illuminate how alluring you look" Your face becomes red as a tomato and Alhaitham slowly slithers his hand to your waist and gave you a forehead kiss. "S-stop! Since when do you talk like some Snezhnayan man!" you cover your face as Alhaitham chuckles.
Both of you were sitting on the picnic-like setting, you were sitting on Alhaitham's lap, his head on top of yours, and his arms around your waist "Thank you..." you heard Alhaitham murmur, "For what?" you looked up to him "For surprising me, I haven't really had any enthusiasm in birthdays since I do believe that enthusiasm is best used in everyday situations; however I acknowledge your efforts" "Oh my... Are you getting sappy? THE Alhaitham thanking me for the surprise?" you made a small smirk and he tackles you and tickles you making him on top of you.
He stopped tickling you and made a cold look "I'm being serious" he told you "I know" you said as you rubbed your nose onto his. He lift up your chin, getting ready to kiss you, and you close your eyes only to hear a slam of the back door, "Y/N I GOT IT I HAVE AN- Ewww are you two making out, like out in the open?! Haitham since when were you this bold-" Kaveh, currently semi-drunk, interrupted the moment he shouldn't have. "KAVEH!!" Both of you screamed, you throw something that was near your grasp and it hit Kaveh's head, making him unconscious (it was a Zaytun peach). "Oops, oh well!" you said while you suddenly kiss Alhaitham, who in exchange also melted in the kiss. Once you were both out of breath, you both suggested to continue this inside, as both of your hands linked with each other and leaving poor Kaveh outside to sleep.
Bonus (the next day):
"Ouch...my head hurts" Kaveh said as he was rubbing his temples. "Hey, Y/N...remind me why was I sleeping outside? And why was there a Zaytun Peach near me...." Kaveh asked you "Oh, I don't know! Maybe the peach fell on your head and knocked you unconscious" You explained to Kaveh while trying to hide your laughter. "Oh I see, thanks Y/N...wait... ZAYTUN PEACHES DOES NOT GROW ON TREES, Y/N COME BACK HERE, WHAT DID REALLY HAPPEN?" Kaveh chases you as you began running when he realized. Alhaitham came out of his room and saw the two of you running around, "It's too early for this..." he said as he turns around and close his room.

watching the Little Mermaid live action remake, and I'm gonna make it your problem
oooh, shiny scales, I love it
Ariel's breathtaking, I love how her hair flows in the water
her sisters are also gorgeous and their designs are amazing
CGI sea creatures look realistic but still manage to be all magical and shxt, nice
Ursula's not a drag queen (a crime tbh), but her design is so coooool
aaah, Ariel's voice (I don't watch trailers, this is my first time hearing it)
Eric has a personality?!
they gave an actual reason as to why Ariel would be attracted to Eric aside from teenage girl hormones go brrr for pretty boy
oooh, they did the cliff thing
Eric has an I want song now and his voice is heavenly
did... did they just add generational trauma to the mermaid family? great addition, I approve (yes, I've seen the prequel)
had to Google Sebastian's accent, it's Jamaican, I love it, I think it suits him
so many pretty sea creatures dancing, oooh, jellyfish
why the fxck do they swim like that?
Poor Unfortunate Souls slaps, Ursula's voice is aaaah (very eloquent)
huh, Ariel still sings in her head (good decision imo, it would've been such a waste)
Ariel doesn't like high heels and corsets, completely understandable tbh
ooof, her meeting the prince and not being able to speak was so much more devastating with the added thought singing, my baby heart, noooo 😭
apparently Ursula put a spell on Ariel that made her forget her objective of kisskissfallinlove and I don't know how I feel about that (in hindsight it makes sense, this Ariel would've totally jumped Eric's bones, lmao)
Scuttle and Sebastian's banter is fxcking hysterical
roll credits, lmao
oooh, Eric has a stuff room too
Grimsby is best boi
Ariel breaks for goats but not humans, we stan
Anakin would flip his shxt if he saw this dance scene
aaaw, Ariel taught Eric her name
Shalalalalala... You Gotta Kiss The Girl~🎶
Ursula's growly voice 😩👌
I love how Ursula's appearance on shore feels even more sinister than in the animated movie
is... is Scuttle rapping? and she has mad flow?! SEBASTIAN TOO!? also it's actual genius how Scuttle's rap sounds how you'd expect a bird rapping
human Ursula's uuuh... huuuh... 🥵
Grimsbyyy you naughty boi
she's also fxcking terrifying, holy fxckaroni
Eric's waaay too chill about Ariel turning into a mermaid right in his arms, lmao
loving the ominous ink cloud
tentacle raaave
Triton's baaack, baby 👑
I love his character design btw, that clamshell armor is so cool and shiny ✨
mermaid dad sad 🥺😭
the send-off definitely didn't make me cry, shutup
neither did Howard Ashman's name in the credits

gonna make little chapter recaps while i reread what's posted of homeward bound so far. and then i am going to bust out chapter seventeen. might not finish it this weekend, but i hope to get a majority of it written. let's get into it.
starting with chapter one - i'm so tired of being afraid
word count: 7,535 (7,515 without the chapter lyrics at the start)
chapter song: six by sleeping at last
chapter lyrics:
what would it feel like to put this baggage down? if i'm being honest i'm not sure i'd know how
recap + lines i felt were important enough to jot down:
peter moves into his new apartment (december 2024)
peter decides that needs to be alone
"when he's alone, there's no one to let down but himself."
peter looks up norman, otto, max, flint, and curt as a precaution now that he knows they turned into villains in the other worlds
norman and otto: started oscorp together during the five year gap between snaps, but have not gotten very far due to the world mourning the half of the population that's gone and also because stark industries is already a powerhouse in all the industries that oscorp is trying to step a foot into. peter deems them not a threat for now but will occasionally check on them just to be safe.
max and flint: peter is unable to find records of anyone with their names when looking them up. that's doesn't guarantee they don't exist in this world, they could have different names or something like that, but peter finds no trace of them and feels like it's safe to assume they don't exist here. he'll still check again occasionally to see if anything pops up down the line.
curt: a professor at empire state university with no signs of any of the things that happened in the other world happening to him here. again, peter will check occasionally to make sure, but overall he thinks that his world is most likely safe from these five people becoming villains like they did in the other peter's worlds.
peter looks into empire state university after looking up curt and thinks about how he'd like to go to college. it's always been part of his life plan. his life is completely different than what it was ever supposed to be and he'd need to get his GED, but he thinks about how he'd like to still go if he can make it work.
peter decides he needs to remake his suit, partially because he other suits can't be used anymore now that karen doesn't recognize him - edith doesn't recognize him anymore, either, which makes peter sad because he feels like he's lost a connection that he had with tony after tony's death - but he also wants to remake his suits because he knows the other peter's made their own from suits from scratch as well, so he thinks it's pretty fitting and thinks that it's kind of like he's building himself up from scratch and starting over for good - "...as both Peter Parker and as Spider-Man"
"and karen not knowing him feels a lot like losing another friend."
he includes peter 2 and peter 3 in his suit design to honor them and remind himself that, even if he is alone in his world, he isn't alone in the universe.
raimi spidey emblem on his chest:
Tumblr media
and tasm spidey emblem on his back:
Tumblr media
"when peter gets lost, or angry, or overwhelmed... he has reminders of them, interwoven into his suit, for him to brush his fingers against and think to himself, be strong, peter. do it for your brothers."
peter had an uncle ben in his world, but his uncle ben died less than two years after his parents did when he was six and a half years old. peter thinks about how his uncle ben impacted his life in a much different life than the other peter's. his uncle ben's last words shaped his morals and his outlook in life, to the point that, when tony first showed up to recruit peter for germany, he had used his own wording based on what ben said to explain why being spidey is so important to him.
"he remembers ben shrugging, remembers him smiling, remembers him saying, "if i didn't help, it'd be my fault, too." the way he said it had been so simple, so sure - a philosophy he fully and passionately believed in."
actually just this whole section feels very important to me so i'm going to copy and paste it right here:
In a way, Uncle Ben played a significant part in Peter becoming Spider-Man, but not in the same way that the Other Peter’s seemed to be influenced by their Uncle Ben’s. Peter remembers that he didn’t think much of the last words he heard his Ben say for a while, but that they seemed to click in his head around the time he was nine or ten, and suddenly they were words he wanted to live by. Doing good, and getting in the way to stop bad things, no matter how big or how small, because then it’d be his fault, too, if he didn’t.
It’s what he told Mr. Stark, back when he was still fourteen almost fifteen and the man had appeared in his apartment. When you can do the things I can, he had said—not exactly what Ben had said, no, kind of added onto by Peter, altered with the weight of Spider-Man stacked on top of the same philosophy he already lived by—but you don’t, and then the bad things happen… they happen because of you.
It’s not what the Other Peter’s talked about, though—because Ben didn’t tell Peter that great power comes with great responsibility. Aunt May told him that. But, for the Other Peter’s, it had been an Uncle that lived longer than his own did.
Then again, the Other Peter’s didn’t have the Avenger’s, and they never had Mr. Stark. Maybe it’s just different because each world isn’t supposed to be the same, and that’s all there is to it.
also may's line from right before ben died, which peter later tells harley about when telling harley the truth about his life:
“You stupid Parker men,” May had scoffed. “Way too selfless for your own good.”
peter thinks that it feels important that uncle ben had such a huge role in shaping who he is, and how the ben's of the other worlds had such a huge part in the other peter's lives as well, even if it was in vastly different ways. he then thinks about how, out of the very few things that peter was able to get out of his and may's old apartment before it was cleared out, one of them happened to be a box of uncle ben's old stuff - including, at the very top of the box, ben's old camera.
peter learns how to use ben's camera to take pictures properly in order to then take pictures of himself as spidey to sell to the daily bugle. he thinks it's amusing and ironic that the pictures he takes are used for articles that slander spidey, knowing that jjj would probably lose his shit if he knew he bought the pictures from spider-man himself.
"everything seems to be trial and error these days - life was never a certainty before, but now it's pretty clearly up in the air and he's left scrambling to try and figure it out, approaching every corner completely blind to what he'll find when he turns it - but that's alright, because he's got the brain of a scientist and trial and error could just be another term for experiment, so it works out well."
that ^ quote is a nice tie in to the tony flashback that happens in chapter 16, where tony calls peter an observer and says that peter is always gathering information and how peter looks more than most people do because peter likes to be prepared and likes to understand.
peter spends new years eve alone (new years, 2024) and watches the fireworks while thinking about the other peter's not being alone before going back to patrol.
peter gets his first Big Injury since ending up completely on his own. he has no one to call and he has no super pain killers like the ones tony had made for him before tony died. the injury starts at his left hip, goes over his ribs, stops at the center of his chest. it was done with a knife. peter has to stitch himself up. it's the first time he's ever done stitches on himself.
he passes out after finishing the stitches and wakes up almost a full day later. thinks about his healing and how his enhancements are definitely being negatively impacted by his lackluster eating habits - he's broke as fuck and also doesn't have much of an appetite due to being traumatized and depressed.
"part of him wonders how drastic a change it really is - wonders if, maybe, the scars will stop fading away. for some reason, that's the thought that makes him feel sick to his stomach."
fun fact: this injury is the one that peter tells harley about in chapter 15 when harley is asking about some of peter's scars.
and that's the end of chapter one! these little recaps are entirely for my own benefit - the only reason i'm posting them is because giving myself the expectation and responsibility of posting them will make me actually commit to recapping every chapter, which will make working on chapter seventeen a lot fucking easier and will make it so i'm able to finish chapter seventeen a lot fucking faster.
i will be reblogging with the chapter two recap shortly

I shouldn't be this deeply invested or high hopes about the RE universe, but I read that post about unkilling Wesker in the remakes and the part about Ada being inspired by Leon and I just can't help but side eye them if that's the route they take.
I like her, always have, but christ will she ever become her own character? She's a grown woman, older than him and an arc that's all "Oh, well our hero is just super super heroic so this one woman who's profiting from dodgy business from the beginning had a change of heart because of him and nobody else. Yeah. We decided she should still completely lack agency. We'll pretend she's miss independent by giving her a zipslide weapon or wahtever, but literally everything she thinks and does is decided by the men she's surrounded with", and I'm supposed to swallow that pill without tasting misogyny whatsoever. I've said it before, but for Ada to ever truly live up to her promised name and potential, she needs a story separate from Leon entirely. She needs her own agency and her own arc. She needs to actually exist as a full person outside of a ship, but I also recognise that myself and other fans are just... expecting way too much.
There ARE good female characters with decent backgrounds and fair stories. Those are Claire, Jill, Sherry, Ashley(sort of), Moira and Natalia. It's just sad that they don't really seem to recieve the same response, though maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. Even Claire, who's had an entire two campaigns to herself, who actually saved Sherry, has a whole ass story behind the scenes, is seemingly only mentioned when paired up with Leon... it's a stupid grievance, but it's all deeply seeped with raging misogyny and it often gets on my nerves. What are your thoughts?
No, I disagree; that's a bad call. Cutting her off from him is a horrible idea for the way the story has already been written. They've already gone through 2R and 4R with Ada's character arc still tied to Leon. If they were to completely sever her arc from his character now, that would still be terrible character writing, just in a different way. She still needs to close out that arc with him and achieve catharsis from it in some way. Otherwise, it makes the first two full game titles she was in completely pointless.
This is why I said that if I were to rewrite Ada's character myself exactly how I wanted her, I'd swap Leon and Claire's campaigns in RE2. I'd put Leon in charge of Sherry and the Birkin family drama and have Claire deal with Ada. Not only does that service Ada's character, but it also makes more sense narratively in general -- since Sherry is such a huge part of Leon's character arc when she's not really for Claire, and Chris's sister would be dealing with Wesker's spy.
But that's not how it happened, so we need to look at what the story is actually doing and analyze it from there.
As the Remakes stand now, there is still an opportunity for them to do more with Ada. Just because Remake Ada is inspired by Leon doesn't mean that she can't exist without him. Every story and every dynamic character arc needs an inciting incident. There's actually a literary term for what Leon is for Ada, especially in the context of Remake: he's her impact character.
The simplest definition I can give is that an impact character is someone who challenges another character's worldview and forces them to re-examine their ideology. Different characters can impact different other characters at varying points of the story, but the idea behind this is that their impact has a direct and relevant effect on the character's trajectory, which in turn helps shape the entire story.
All dynamic characters are affected by impact characters at some point (that's what makes them dynamic rather than flat) -- including protagonists. Leon and Ada are that for each other. Ada teaches Leon that his sense of justice is naive and somewhat childish and that the real world isn't so nice, and Leon teaches Ada to question what it is that she's fighting for.
That doesn't mean that those two can't be impacted by anyone or anything else, though.
We've already seen this happen with Remake Leon. Ada is just his first impact character. Krauser is his second.
Ada forces Leon to change how he looks at the world, but Krauser completely changes how Leon views himself. Leon killing Krauser in RE4make is a huge moment for his character because, prior to that happening, Leon still views himself as being different from the people who lie and betray and kill and get so focused on their own goals that they don't care who gets caught in the crossfire.
He isn't. If he was, he wouldn't have been able to drive a knife through his teacher's heart for the sake of finishing his mission; he would've still tried to help save him in some way.
Leon isn't just mourning Krauser when he almost cries after the fact -- he's mourning himself; he's mourning the last little piece of innocence that he was still holding onto -- that last little bit of naivety that allowed him to believe that there was still an Objective Moral Good -- that there were still such things as Good Guys and Bad Guys.
That's why the trophy/achievement you get after that boss fight is "You used to be a good guy!"
Who's "you" in this context? Is it Krauser? Or is it Leon?
This is also why it's so important that they changed Krauser's character from "guy who went a little nutty and decided to slob on Wesker's knob" to "guy who was betrayed by the government who was supposed to take care of him even though he did literally nothing wrong and is now just trying to reclaim some sense of safety and autonomy and purpose in his life" but that's a whole separate post on its own.
Anyway, the point is --
There's nothing that says that they can't do the same for Ada. She can still have a second impact character come into her storyline.
They still need to have Leon and Ada's connection pay off in some way and provide catharsis, but as of the moment of writing, there's nothing that says that Leon is the only avenue for Ada's character to be impacted and/or that she can't go on to have meaning and grow in a context divorced from him.
It's too late for OG Ada. It's not too late for Remake Ada. But Capcom needs to have the balls to do it.

tlou episode 9 thoughts!!
- I KNEW IT I KNEW IT I'M SO HAPPYYYY this has always been my favorite theory for why ellie is immune and it also means that, however unlikely, there actually could be other immune people out there. it wouldn't benefit the narrative to meet any other immune people yet, but in the future...? like a third game...?
- baby ellie just popped right out huh fksjfkd i guess the quickest way to speed up labor is to kill a zombie
- hearing ashley johnson's voice, especially hearing her use her sweet baby voice brought me to tears immediately
- joel seems a lot more aware & understanding of why ellie is so checked out, but still tries to cheer her up. in the game he's well-meaning but pretty much clueless. i like this change!!
- the giraffe scene was perfect, 10/10, no notes
- "i'll follow you wherever you go" 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
- i'm a fucking mess because of that conversation by the medical tents, that was an incredible moment to add and i wasn't expecting it at all. the look on ellie's face when she realizes that it's her, she's the one that "healed all wounds"
Tumblr media
- no sarah photograph? :(
- "we didn't tell her, we didn't cause her any fear" FUCK! that's the problem!!! the problem is that ellie would die for the cure if you gave her the option, but you were too chicken shit to tell her the truth! everyone in this room has their own (selfish) motivations and no one is thinking about ellie, not really, not even joel. IT MAKES ME CRAZY AHHHHH YOU'RE ALL COWARDS
- the hospital shootout was everything i wanted and so much more. joel found his reason to live and god help him, he'll fight for it -- no matter how many lives he needs to take to get there. it was so intense and the music was beautiful and it was just gory enough to make you feel the weight of the brutality without feeling like it's a cheesy slasher. also loved how many times joel reloading or switched guns. and his dead eyes throughout the whole scene are haunting
- wow, killing jerry happened so damn fast!! in the game, you can stand in front of him forever and he'll just keep pointing his knife at you (and in the remake he pleads with joel, "this is our future, think of all the lives she'll save.") but i love the decision to shoot him in the blink of an eye. joel is beyond caring about anything other than ELLIE ELLIE ELLIE. i do like that he doesn't kill the nurses though, because it's a purely practical mission: save ellie. everyone else is just in the way.
- no abby sighting? :( i really thought there would be one :(
- i'm a little bummed that the themes were spelled out so specifically by marlene and joel's last conversation, but eh, whatever. TV audiences tend to need things spelled out clearer lol. i'm a little surprised they took out the line "how long until she's torn apart by a pack of clickers? that is, if she hasn't been raped and murdered first". considering what happened last episode, i felt that line would ring more true than ever. kinda underwhelmed by this confrontation tbh, which is sad because it's so pivotal
- ohhhh god he expanded upon the lie 😭 that hurt so much worse. i'm devastated for ellie
- joel talking about sarah felt more painful than i previously thought possible. also adorable how he doesn't want to offend ellie by calling her "not girly" ajfjsjfksj
- maybe i'm just blinded by my love for the game, but i don't like any of the dialogue they changed in the final scene. joel's original speech is SO poignant and perfect but i didn't get the same emotion from this one. and there was no glance at his watch :( i would've preferred keeping riley's fate vague (we already knew anyway), because "i'm still waiting for my turn" is so much more emotional to me. ugh. i'm a little peeved they changed so much about this scene that has long been considered as close to perfect as possible :(
- i don't want to end on a bad note so let me just say that the entire experience of watching this show has been incredible beyond words. seeing a game i love so much be treated with care and passion, opening up a whole new world for people who never would have known about it before this... it's just amazing. i'm so grateful that this show exists and feels like a love letter to the fans rather than a cash grab. it's so damn beautiful

Beauty and the Beast you say? Hyperfixation unlocked. Even if you don’t like it, I am curious what thoughts there may be
PS I love your work 💙
Let's do Beauty and the Beast.
To start off with, I like the old animated film. It was my grandma's favourite and I loved watching it with her. I didn't really appreciate it until I was around 15 years old though, before that it was one of those movies that I would watch if it was on, but i wouldn't seek it out to watch it.
What I think is quite sad about this film, and a lot of the fairy tales Disney has produced in its past, is that there is no way they could remake this now. I know they have, but we were VERY lucky that we got the remake that we did and that it came out in a time where Disney's feminist agenda wasn't so awful.
I have this horrible fear that if they did remake it that Belle wouldn't be Belle anymore. The story would change. She'd be some woman who would want nothing to do with the Beast by the end of the film (like woke Amazon's Cinderella, or even Disney's Mulan.) It's good to change the narrative, but if you're a company who is remaking a film you are just remaking it, you are following the old plot and merely adding little bits in. A remake isn't a remake if it's a completely different story.
Belle's romance with the Beast is the heart of Beauty and the Beast and it works on so many levels.
Let's start with the title. Beauty and the Beast. We can interpret this, firstly, as how the villagers say it in the opening song. Belle's name means Beauty, therefore she is the Beauty in Beauty and the Beast. But if we analyse the title further we can look at what the plot is about. The whole movie hinges on the idea that the Beast falls and is loved in return by someone without his beauty. And we know he was beautiful, it's stated at the beginning. His narrative hinges on the fact that he's stripped of his beauty and that beauty itself isn't purely what we can see. Beauty and the Beast, therefore, becomes the Beast's title, it's his struggle with beauty itself and his perception of it and how him being turned into this creature has warped who he once was and made he himself into someone who can't see his own beauty anymore. We could also look at this from a symbolic point of view. What is beauty in this movie? What is the beast? We, as humans, have both sides inside of us, we coexist with this concept that we can be monstrous and beautiful at the same time and that there is beauty in the monstrous side of us too. Look at Gaston, he is, supposedly, a handsome man, yet his actions are monstrous. He is the Beast in this movie because his actions make him so. We could, therefore, apply the title to him as well.
If we move on from the title we can start to look at the characters. I want to focus on Belle a lot because I feel like a lot of who she is can sometimes be forgotten in the wake of a lot of criticism of this film. Belle doesn't have stockholm syndrome, I'm just going to say it. She doesn't. Her feelings for the Beast develop because of his own actions to her, not because he stayed the same and she saw goodness where there was none. The Beast changed for her. She noticed this change. In fact, I hate the idea that people change for other people. The Beast didn't change, he just found his humanity again. Actually, we'll start with the Beast.
So, the Beast when we first meet him properly is acting not good. He's threatening Belle's father, he's imprisoning him and Belle. But, I mean, in retrospect, we can see his reasonings behind his actions. We need to remember certain things here, while we do see this mainly from Belle's point of view, we need to remember that things have happened to the Beast. He's living his own story and we get a glimpse of this at the beginning. He turned away a stranger in the dead of night and was transformed into a monster because she was secretly a witch. Was he a child? Was he not? I don't think it really matters. What does matter is that some stranger came to his door, he turned them away and he was cursed for it. A bad thing, maybe. But this is medieval times. Yes she was an old woman, but he's a prince. Do you know how many diseases were rampant in the medieval period? Royalty was sequestered away for a reason whenever illnesses broke out. He's used to keeping his distance from the people, and yes, he shouldn't have made fun of her appearance but, again, he's a prince, this is his attitude that he does actually learn and change from as the years pass.
Back to Belle and her father. Her father breaks in. Let's remember that shall we. Her father breaks in, makes himself at home, and while his staff are more than happy to have this guy here, he is the master of the house, he should have the say on who stays in his home. Also, I know the rose is just a rose, but, again, if he's willing to steal a rose what else is he willing to steal? That, along with self esteem issues, his royal status and the fact that maurice broke in, I mean, the Beast kind of has reasons to imprison Maurice. He does. I'm not sorry about it.
Anyway. With Maurice in custody the swap happens and we now have Belle living here. Here's the thing, he knows she's pretty. The villagers tell us they know she's pretty and the Beast has eyes, he knows she's pretty too. His lack of self esteem, the fact that he now has her living with him, that she's the daughter of the man who crossed him, he's not wrong to be a bit tetchy at first. At first. I do not excuse how he yelled that she could starve, but, again, he's been alone a long time and his anger issues stem from that old witch who ruined his whole life. The point I'm trying to make is that the Beast, after that, is very hands off with Belle. He lets her keep to her side of the castle, he pretty much leaves her alone. The only thing he takes issue with is her destroying something that is keeping his hope for change alive. I would be pissed too. But let's remember that he also helped her right after with the wolves.
From the start we, and Belle, see that the Beast has some good qualities to him. For all his anger he did ask Belle if she was hungry and he did save her when she was being attacked. These glimpses are in stark contrast to Gaston who we don't see any redeeming qualities of anywhere in this movie. It's why the Beast can become the good guy in the end, because he wasn't shown to be a complete Beast from the beginning. We are given sympathy for him when we hear how he became a Beast and then we are shown again and again that he isn't this monster that he's shown to be on the outside.
It's nuanced and I love it.
Again, compared to Gaston, the Beast, in my opinion, is allowed to be the good guy, he didn't give Belle Stockholm syndrome and he finally found himself again because of Belle and her ability to see more than a monster.
Gaston is a menace to women. He is. He has the catchiest song, but he is a full on narcissist. I enjoy his character a lot because he's very charming and he's funny but he's villain coded from the start. Also, the only reason he likes Belle is because she's beautiful. He doesn't like that she's educated or that she's nice, he just likes that she's pretty and that their children will be pretty. He's terrifying because he's realistic. There are men like Gaston out there and they are charismatic, but if you listen to what they're saying, it's actually terrifying. He rouses and sets a full on mob on the Beast. He gets Belle's father institutionalised. He threatens her with her father to get her to marry him and then he locks her in her house.
Remember, the Beast imprisoned Maurice (who is turning out to be quite a menace as i write this) not Belle, she just took his place and he was very nice with her afterwards because he knew it wasn't her punishment to take. Gaston on the other hand did all this while proclaiming it was what was best for Belle.
Finally onto Belle. Like I said, Belle doesn't fall for the Beast until he shows her his humanity. She has standards too. She would rather be with a furry than with Gaston. Namely because the Beast betters himself. He learns to read, he interacts with the world again, he smiles and he dances and he lives after years of misery because Belle showed him that she cared about him, that there was still something human left within him, even with the last petal falling from the rose.
Not much I can say about the side characters. I like them, they give it magic and it's tragic that they were trapped in this spell with the Beast- again showing how extreme this freaking witch was. But the main story is what holds my attention even after all these years.
I feel like if you say she was pressured into loving the Beast then you've not really watched the film properly. Even the remake didn't suggest that Belle was pressured or just loved him because she was stuck with him. They both made the effort and I think their story is really nice.
I think they could have given the Beast a better human design, but I think it's just the way with characters who spend a lot of time as one specific thing will always look weird when they transform back. Like, Kenai, I know he's Kenai in the beginning, but by the end when he's under that blanket and human again I'm so used to seeing him as a bear that it's weird.
If you have more to add to this analysis then yay, I love this movie and I think it's great.
Also, sorry I've just tagged this onto an ask, I was going to make a separate post but this works too and thank you for liking my art!!

i'm still disappointed by no femc in the p3 remake so i'm gonna do what i do with all of my blorbos, isekai her.
this time i'm not gonna use pla but twst instead mostly because there's more opportunities to use personas in twst than in pla where the only way i see her getting access to her persona is during the red sky thing. i'm also gonna rotate between names since i don't feel like choosing a name.
prologue + chapter 1 only
so since the femc's route isn't canon, she doesn't become the great seal because makoto/minato is already the great seal.
whatever brings yuu to the twst wonderland world sees her up for grabs and brings her to the before prologue area where she's then isekai'd to twst.
not without erasing her memories, of course.
minako wakes up in a coffin, grim opens it with his fire, yadda yadda, the whole beginning of the prologue is the same.
the dark mirror takes an interest in her because while she doesn't belong in any of the dorms, she has incredible potential and takes notice of the contract she's not aware she has.
grim escapes and causes arson and hamuko goes off to help kalim who's butt is on fire.
she feels a connection trying to be made with him but something is preventing it from happening (sorry kotone, no social links yet).
again, things go the same for the most part in all honesty throughout the prologue just with hamuko having more dialogue inputs.
a key difference is no ghost fight when she first gets to ramshackle dorm because she somehow manages to befriend the ghosts (which causes questions as to how she's not afraid of them because she's most definitely never seen ghosts before).
another key difference is during the mine battle where kotone actually helps fighting the monster using a stick she found near the cabin while also giving out orders.
there's social links desperately wanting to be made with grim, ace and deuce but the time hasn't come for that yet.
on the night of the last day of the prologue, at exactly the point where 11:59 changes to midnight, the sky turns green and people turn into coffins for an hour, but nobody is awake to notice.
chapter 1
first day of classes for hamuko and grim. also ace got collared for eating a slice of a tart and decided he's a ramshackle kid now.
things mostly go the same for the most part but there are a few changes.
kotone runs into ortho when chasing after grim and immediately feels melancholic and sad. he reminds her of... of... who does he remind her of?
the whole lunch thing is a bit different too with minako immediately noticing how there's something off with jamil and how kalim seems to be hiding emotions (like her. but she isn't hiding her emotions, is she?). this does not affect chapter 1 but does affect chapter 4.
when kotone first meets riddle, it's like all her attention is immediately on him and not in the 'tyrant housewarden' way but in a 'he's somehow like me' way. a blue butterfly only she seems to notice flutters between them.
before i forget, the dreams!! they still do show the particular scenes from alice in wonderland but alice acts strange. she looks the same as in the movie but with yellow eyes instead. she tells minako to "save the queen, he has yet to awaken" or something along those lines.
I FORGOT TO MENTION THIS IN THE PROLOGUE SECTIONS BUT SHE GOES BY YUU BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T REMEMBER HER NAME.
okay, back to chapter 1. for the most part, it goes rather the same seeing as hamuko is trying to make sure her friends stay alive.
the day before the unbirthday party, the boys find out she's a girl and freak out as if they've never interacted with a girl in their lives. minako can understand why they thought she was a boy with how she looks but is just kinda done with them as they freak out.
crewel figures out she's a girl because it's crewel. you don't question him.
now, the whole battle for housewarden aftermath is different with kotone having more impact. she essentially rewords what ace is conveying towards riddle with her own observations. she's trying to make sure the situation doesn't get worse while also making riddle realize that maybe how he's been handling punishments isn't really good housewarden behavior.
it doesn't work, riddle still overblots.
now, just because minako doesn't remember the events of p3, that doesn't mean the skills she learned doesn't exactly go away. it only takes a few minutes for her to realize that they had to target the phantom and not riddle. she tells ace and deuce to focus on the phantom while she finds a way to separate it from the overblotted boy.
turns out jumping out a tree that started to float while you were climbing onto strings made of ink hurts a lot. feels like death.
so the memory thing goes quite different (i'm basing the concept off of on the eight wishes of a resident therapist by adaven on ao3). both riddle and kotone wake up in a void where the only other things there are a desk with two papers on it and a very familiar looking boy.
he tells them the only way to keep going is to sign the contract that will bind them to all responsibility of their actions.
"i will chooseth this fate of mine own free will."
they sign the contracts and the boy disappears with a smile. impromptu therapy time as they go through riddle's memories.
he starts with denial in the beginning but nearing the end he just spills because he's so drained from everything that's been going on. he's tired and doesn't know what to do anymore.
hamuko promises to help him become better because "that's what friends are for" and riddle is so confused. "he wants to be my friend??? after everything i've done??"
they wake up after the promise (the social link isn't established yet) with riddle still looking like his overblot self but now in control of himself. the phantom is still alive, desperately trying to reconnect to riddle.
minako's pocket feels heavy and she pulls out something very similar to a gun. there's no time to think, she puts it up to her head while shielding riddle from the phantom.
orpheus makes her return from the sea of souls.
the battle is soon finished with riddle and kotone being the most injured (i think that attacks that use hp cause injuries on the users body). with only a few questions about orpheus before crowley shows back up, the chapter finishes as normal with only riddle and kotone being taken to the infirmary.
at the end of the chapter, hamuko tells riddle she remembers her name.
at the exact point where 11:59 changes to midnight, the sky turns green and people turn to coffins, only this time the two in the infirmary are awake to experience the hour.

An author ask for woo, if we did get pmd5, what would you like to see in it?
// this question is a bit difficult to think about since I feel like PMD as a franchise and my own personal preferences have gotten to a point where they're going different directions- I suspect there probably won't be any future PMD games that entirely be ideal for my tastes, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. but some things I'd like to see are...
Good variety of pokemon (if we get another Gates in this regard I will be Sad. It doesn't have to be literally every pokemon that's shown up but 151 is a bit sparse...)
On that same train of thought, more hero/partner options that aren't just starters. I want weird shit in there like Machop and Phanpy again, give me some stuff that makes me go "why is that here?"
Good mix of accessibility mechanics and challenging gameplay (I think along the lines of Explorers and Super. Settings to toggle mechanics like the auto-movement would also be nice. And PLEASE bring back the standard A attack I'm begging you)
A UI that is generally clean and compact would also be nice- in the post where I talked about my problems with DX I attributed the busyness of the UI to only having a single screen to work with on the Switch, and I conveniently forgot PMD started on a single screen console with the GBA. I don't consider Rescue's UI to be visually crowded at all, so I'm back to the stance of "they should fit everything on the screen better".
If they simply MUST use 3D models and don't want to render new ones, then I just want portraits to emote again. Looking at Gates it seems they had a pretty emotive portraits. I imagine DX looking as bland as it did was because they ported portraits directly from PSMD, which had like, 720 pokemon all with at least 3 portraits (which was understandable for that game, I'm just appalled they didn't even bother remaking portraits for important NPCs in DX). Like look at this little guy he's crying out of his ear. His ear hole shrinks when he's shocked. He's hilarious and I want more portraits like this.
Tumblr media
Something new with the story would be nice :,) ESPECIALLY the ending. Please I am begging. After 4.5 games (DX is only half a game to me since it's a remake) where it ends with the hero vanishing into light and the partner crying about it, it starts to lose its punch. And ngl when I got to the farewell scene in PSMD I was fully expecting another farewell, and I said to myself "if the partner leaves this time I'll bust out laughing". You can guess how that ended. I feel like PMD could offer a lot of different points of exploration in a story that aren't just "natural disaster threatens to blow everyone up" or "everyone was too sad :/ and now the world is blowing up". (Not that those are bad bases for a story, but PMD games tend to have very simple writing that doesn't explore stuff in depth, so it's hard for them to put a new spin on those takes.)
And that's about all I can think of off the top of my head! Unfortunately for you all I have a new crack theory to impart upon you that may be upsetting. I think the Pokemon Presents will not announce a new PMD. They'll mention the Gameboy Virtual Consoles, and show off a list of games that will be on it. Red Rescue Team will be there. And that'll be the end of PMD news. Enjoy this cursed theory.

about the shop thing i'm like..i'd have preferred to use the game money but sigh, whatever. however, if you're gonna charge me for cosmetics at least use other outfits to entice me. tek4 jin AGAIN and the pink dress for xiao like… tag2 jun looks nice but IMO it's the only one i could consider buying. and even then I'm not sure bc they look weirdly shiny and tek7-esque or is that just me? at least jin's hoodie like you mentioned in your post
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xiaoyu's Tekken 4 pink dress is also in Tekken 7. so given how they both look weirdly shiny in TK8...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I would NOT be surprised if the bastards didn't just imported these outfits from Tekken 7. They REALLY want you to pay actual money for a VERY lazy practice. People were commenting on how bad Jin looks, but Xiao's looks weird, too. If these are legit just from TK7, I think that's a lotta bullshit. If they're gonna make you spend money for these, they best remake the outfits in general. Plus some cna argue that maybe Jin's outfit is supposed to be shiny (why is his tank top shiny ??) in TK4, but I'm pretty sure Xiao's dress wasn't...
Tumblr media
The only thing that looked "shiny" were the decals, not the dress itself. So that makes me heavily believe they just took these from TK7. (very, very lazy) and it would make sense why we're getting Jin's stupid hoodie again instead of the black & white outfit (because it would've been HARDER as they couldn't just yoink it from TK7) same as to why we're getting Xiao's pink dress rather than her sporty alt from TK4. Because again, they can just yoink it from TK7.
I hope I'm wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure I'm not lmao.
But yeah, Tag 2 Jun is the only one I'd bother buying. But like? Even then, it doesn't look like they'll give us her shorter hair for some reason. I would think that'd be easy to do. Supposedly, the shop is only gonna update once or twice a month. So, it doesn't seem like it's gonna be as egregious as MK1's. But still... it's already reeking laziness to me which isn't a good thing.
Also yes, I wish / hope there will be a way to earn these premium coins without actually paying anything, or you could at least trade your USELESS fight money for them. Just because back in MK11, even when it wasn't too often, sometimes you can earn the premium koins for free - I manage to get some premium items that way without spending a buck. But... I'm sure it'll be a case where you can only buy them. Sad.

going in the RE tags to look for content is so funny bc like I have a lot of blogs so I go look for stuff in a lot of tags but RE's or more specifically leon's is funny bc like 80% of the content is "x reader" fics which I do find very funny since he doesn't have one predominant pairing but instead many of his ships are popular which is also very funny so fans thrive with oc or self-insert stuff (which is all fine btw before someone misinterprets me) bc boy are people absolutely THIRSTY for that man lol (don't worry I am too but just more quietly lol) and then lots of hcs and meta(y) stuff and some art and a bit of gifs and it's all fine normal fandom behavior it's just the fact that most of them have leon completely ooc lmao I just glance at some stuff and I'm like hummmmmmm yeah that's not leon at all lmao and then you have people talking about his timeline and it's all nice and fine until you see that they're talking about remake and og leon as if they're the same which they're not people come on I lose 10 years of lifespan every time if you want to do meta analysis at least do the basic research???? that remake timeline is a different one???? re4 remake leon does not grow to become re6 leon ffs?????? and so many wrong interpretations of his character is just very sad actually people will be like "this is how I think he'd behave in X situation" and it's the most deranged ooc misinterpretation of his character you have ever seen in your life and like I've said before I know his looks are very distracting but is it really so hard to look a bit more at what's under it??
anyways sorry for the long-no-ponctuation rant this is not aimed at anyone in particular and like my opinion is meaningless you do you it's just that after so many years I get a bit tired of the leon content consisting mostly of oversexualization and ooc stuff (specially after r4make) you feel me? that this popular version of him that people see is not what he is in canon at all... but yeah... back to the trenches we go...

Stepping (mostly) away from the 14 Fandom has definitely allowed me to re-evaluate how I feel about characters and other things in the game and how much of it was just me trying to fit in or swayed by public opinion.
Like, I still love G'raha, but most people I was associated with didn't so much so I never really discussed him except as part of my Hadestown AU. I still prefer his Crystal Exarch and Crystal Tower versions over his Endwalker. Hope in Dawntrail he can chill out a little over the hero worship but I also know some people like that, but also my dude, we saved the universe together, you don't need to uwu me.
Still really enjoy Emet-Selch, Lahabrea and Elidibus in my own interpretations of them being sad old men. I like all three of them slowly losing their minds, or quickly in Lahabrea's case I guess, and Elidibus being a shell of what he was with few attachments and memories, driven only by the barest memory of Duty, Love and his other half's need to feed on Aether (Zodiark, personal HC of why he keeps demanding more and more sacrifices, it takes a lot of aether to power something so massive for so long and do the miracles such as fixing the aethereal balance and rejuvenating the planet). Emet losing himself over and over chasing half ghosts of Azem over Millenia does something to me, I HC he made the Hyth shade out of loneliness and imbued too much of himself in it, making it too much of Hythlodaeus but also too much Emet and it reminds him of it every time he sees it. Lahabrea likewise chased his family over the eons, seeing his son die and be reborn over and over on top of the personal horrors he must feel for actively working to destroy the Star just to remake it probably wrung what little stability he had left in his mind post rejoining of the Hephaistos half. Not to mention 12k years of Athena insidiously whispering in his ears from the Heart.
The Scions, I like them, Alisaie is still my favorite little sister for my WoL, and Alphinaud for all he's annoying at first, really endeared himself to me in later expacs. They are Family with a capital F to my WoL, to the point she would have murdered Forchenault for disowning them if she had had the opportunity. I have very strong feelings on disownment for seemingly petty seeming reasons, having had it happen to myself. It was very much a Immediate Hatred Of Character Moment. Sure he had A Reason but I still stand there and side eye him hard.
Thancred remains a favourite as well, I like the personal growth he goes through, how he changes from the rakish bard with a silver tongue to a sad and broken man to sad broken dad to someone who at the end of the world gave everything he could to save his family from total destruction. I also appreciate his morbid jokes as someone who likewise feels just broken sometimes, who doesn't want to sometimes burn the world down makes me cackle so much.
Y'shtola I also rather still like, especially when she's allowed to be a bit, and pardon the pun, catty. She grew up with Matoya, cattiness was her bread and butter. Let a queen live her dream of world hopping and sassy retorts. The magical girl routine and the end of patch 6.5 where she's like There is no other version of this spell, right WoL? Makes me so happy.
Urianger I have mixed feelings on, mostly because I just don't understand him as a character. I know he's supposed to be all Mysterious and stuff but I really just standing man when he's expositioning. It's probably a thing to do with his Shakespearean way of speaking when no one else does (I guess Hydaelyn kinda does). He's fine.
Krile, I really like her in general. She's a side character that made it to main character status and I'm so proud of her. She makes me happy with how she is somehow the cutest cat ear wearing girl but also the terrifying creature that haunts Estinien's dreams. I look forward to seeing her shine more in Dawntrail.
More Thoughts (tm) Later.

I've gone back to my roots and am handwriting an older story of mine (again? ish? i didnt get that far with the first rewrite, it was mostly formatting) and I've basically decided to do sort of an overhaul of the characters because i have a better idea of their personalities in 2024 than I did in like. 2012-13.
I've been thinking about this one story and the characters a LOT recently so allow me to explain it. The story is about a show about a fictional band (which is itself a remake of a show about a fictional band), how the fictional band was put together outside the universe of the show, and how the fictional band [briefly] became a real band before falling apart. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE DOGGS. More about the characters and how I'm wanting to change the direction of them below.
CHESTER HARRIS - Is the de facto Leader™ of the group as the eldest of the teenagers and is the voice of reason amongst them. He's the drummer of the band as well as the band's main singer. His role isn't changing far too much from what it originally was, but it's given a lot more depth. Rather than him just taking to the big brother role perfectly and knowing the balance of when to step back, he's a little more.... arrogant about it. Because he's the eldest he assumes he knows best about the situation and the others are going to take him to task about it.
GREG SWIFT - Is the second oldest of the group and is the one with the ideas. An out of the box thinker. He's the bassist of the band and writes lyrics, doesn't really sing at all and doesn't mind it. His original role was as kind of the shit stirrer of the group, intentionally trying to get a rise out of his bandmates for the fun of it and just. Generally unpleasant for the most part. He's still going to be a bit of an ass but like, he wants to be in the band and once he gets to know the others he's in it for the long haul.
RICKI SUAREZ - Is the third oldest of the group and is the heart of the group. They were the one who brought everyone in the group together in universe and they're the band's rhythm guitarist and the secondary singer. In the original story they were kind of just... random. Really random. (Which makes sense given the year I first wrote it) I see them as being person who's very determined [since they went to a performing arts school they were convinced that the role was MADE for them] so I'm going to try to lean more into that.
VIRGIL 'XAVIER' O'TOOLE - Is the youngest of the group and is the one who gets caught in situations the most as the baby. He's the band's lead guitarist and composer (he works a lot with Greg). He can sing but doesn't very often. The change with Virgil is likely going to be the most dramatic because looking back at the writing for him I don't like how I handled it at all. Originally, his character was very emotional - crying and whining at the drop of a hat outside the show. He was 14 but comes off as way way younger. He was suffering a lot of mental anguish because of things happening in his backstory, and while I don't intend on changing the backstory, I'm definitely going to change his reaction. While he's still emotional, the emotion is going to be anger which drives him to be defiant outside the show (he was the one who pushes for the band to be 'real'), in show he's going to be pigeonholed into the 'sad little kid' role which makes him increasingly more resentful of his lack of control.

I like a trainwreck shipping scenario where Volo is actually using Emmet for his evil plans, follows through on it, BUT still very much goes out of his way to keep Emmet out of (physical) harm.
It's done largely by imprisoning him, but Volo doesn't have the healthiest mind set on the best of days and that's unlikely to change now.
No idea how it could end. Just love the idea of Emmet asking Volo if he never felt anything for him. Volo noticeably hesitates, glances at a trapped Emmet, and walks away.
Happy ending, sad ending, tragic ending, mixed ending, etc. I don't care just gimme the aaaaangst.
I like the idea of manipulative switch Volo. He worms his way into Emmet's life at the urging of Giratina, whom Volo believes is going to help him with his cockamamie bs plan to remake the world. (Side note: The 'Giratina's Puppet' head canon is the only thing that makes sense to me for why they'd even interact). Poor, naive Emmet is distracted by this amazing person who wants to bang him nonstop with the added bonus that Giratina is promising to help him find Ingo. Volo isn't going to tell Emmet about his plan to hit the reset button on the world yet because he might think it's too stupid.
Where would he be imprisoned? At home? In the distortion world? When Emmet asks if Volo ever felt anything for him, Volo would hesitate and say, "I hardly know if I'm looking at you or Giratina these days...but yeah, we are going to be one big happy family. In fact, if my plan goes south, and the world gets destroyed but not remade, it's just going to be us: Giratina and two insane guys."
(That reminds me of what I should call my AU...something like Three himbos and Giratina AU)
I've said it before, but I've always liked the idea of Volo who could snap Emmet like a twig, but he allows Emmet to be violent with him out of perverse excitement. Make no mistake though..he could work Emmet as well as Giratina (but in a much more fun way).

Pushing Forward (Resident Evil)
In every movement, every sound, every shift in the light, he remembers the groaning, moaning, and screaming of those things. In every lingering second, minute, and hour, he feels his heartbeat, his breath hitch. He isn't himself. Maybe he never was. He was alive, maybe he isn't anymore.
---------------------------------
So, I finished RE2 Remake some time ago and wanted to write some post-game fiction of what *I* think Leon might feel like after all that stuff happened. (spoiler, he doesn't feel that good)
Here is the link to read it on AO3 !
TW : canon violence, suicidal thoughts, explicit description of violence, past traumatic experience, Leon being sad and traumatized.
For the sake of me, I do not choose any pairings!
---------------------------------
When he looks back at his life, he should have known nothing good would ever come out of it.
He did try to find some hope, some comfort. A way out of the loneliness he grew up in. Becoming a cop was a good way to put others before himself, longingly trying to bury himself in work, be it sorting documents about thefts, disputes, burglaries, or lost kittens... And if not working at the post, then patrol the streets with a senior officer busy comically eating his doughnuts and loudly sipping his coffee while belittling him for being so naively attentive about everything in the streets. Being scolded for not getting things done quickly enough, being complimented for reading all the files, and cleaning behind himself.
Anything but being late.
He remembers hanging up his phone after his ex-girlfriend broke up with him, declaring he was "too nice" and she was worth more than a simple cop. He can see himself reaching for the nearest vodka bottle on the table, swinging back, and drowning his grunts of pain in the hard alcohol. Oh, that shit was disgusting. But that was all he had at the moment, the bitter, sickening taste of a cheap bottle found in the back of a cupboard. His head throbs in remembrance, the way he woke up laid down on the floor, hungover and late as fuck.
His eyes shift to the Matilda gun he carefully placed on the table in front of him, and he gulps.
He met Claire at the first stop of that nightmare, the gas station. She did save his ass by shooting in the cashier's head, splattering his brains and blood everywhere. It was the first time he saw a head explode in real life. And even in the movies he did watch it wasn't as gory.
He recalls the night, and how used to violence he became to survive.
Leon feels his stomach churn, unhappy about the lack of food and crude memories. His temples are still wet, even after a cold shower, his moist hands rub together on his jeans in a vain attempt to get rid of his unease.
The hotel he is placed in is clean, warm, and safe. The security is tight, with trained armed men on every level ready to shoot any and all threats. He dumbly explained to them the zombies needed to be shot in the head until it popped open for them to stay down and dead, but stabbing their bodies with a knife would always be a good precautionary measure. Leon almost got bit dozens of times at the beginning of the night before applying his little technique. For all that matters, the agent he talked to only seemed to nod his head in courtesy rather than in actual thanks.
"It's not like any of them actually fought against those things..." He mumbles as he stands up, rubbing his hand against his arm nervously. "Fucking stuck-ups. Next time, I'm not telling them shit."
Leon walks silently to the adjacent bathroom, the wounds on his chest rubbing against the freshly applied bandages. After getting pulled out of the funicular, a team of medic had stopped him, examining his pupils for any suspicious movement all the while three charged and ready-to-shoot LE 5 guns were aimed at his head, chest, and legs. He had managed to calmly explain why he was there under their watchful eyes, the doctor in front of him pushing a shot of morphine into his arm and telling him to follow the men to safety. They had bandaged him hurriedly, the clean wrapping too tight around the gash on his belly and upper back, before heading back to their more important work like ant drones. He isn't their priority right now. And he doesn't know if he should be happy to be left alone without incessant questioning, or if he should pick up his gun and shoot himself in the bathroom to stop his brain from remembering.
The square mirror on top of the sink reflects a stranger: a man at the end of the thread, impossible bags under his eyes, sweat-covered face and hair, bruises and gashes all over his body, the light in his eyes only a reflection of the sickly white ceiling lamp. His smile he always tries to wear is gone. His confidence is battered, spread on the ground like the limbs and bones of all those people he killed, a poor excuse of what it was not even two days before. He never likes to walk around shirtless, but the feeling of a t-shirt or sweatshirt makes his skin crawl and the wounds always end up bleeding again. He doesn't want to feel blood on his skin ever again. But the bandage around his chest, covering his shoulder and his stomach is starting to get redder by the minute, and he grunts between rapid pants.
"Breathe in, breathe out..." He tells himself, his own voice sounding foreign, too deep, too fucking abnormal to his own ears. His hands reach for the bandage lining, pulling on it carefully, the strain of the pressure being released makes his teeth clench as a rush of pain travels through his stomach. He wants to end it all now. Like a bandaid, Leon thinks he must pull all of it fast, so the pain can vanish more easily. Hopefully. The grunts keep coming out of his mouth, an abundance of pain and blood pouring out of his body, but he keeps going. His hands are bloody by the time the wrap drops to the floor, revealing a deep gash going from under his pancreas to his left hip. He was told he was extremely lucky to not have any organs touched, but now, alone in a hotel bathroom, tears pooling in his eyes, hands shaking, mind racing to that fucking grey giant dude who almost punctured him a hundred times over in less than 5 hours and blood all over his wounded chest, he wishes he could have died there.
His teary gaze falls to the wound, palping it, feeling the warm liquid oozing out of him slow down. He thinks he remembers being told to wash the wound before wrapping it up again.
"Hope water is enough..." Leon shuffles to his right side, the less injured one, to open the faucet and gather some water. His hips gradually move his body closer, and the water he pours on the gash doesn't splash everywhere. Yay, at least he can still be somewhat clean.
Time is passing, he knows it, feels it every time he touches the flow of cold water, but he doesn't want to guess how long it takes to clean himself. Too long probably. He feels so fucking tired, used, rotten. But he does manage to finish his task. Now he only has to wrap it, tightly enough, and go back to feeling like shit, but only emotionally. He whimpers at the rough contact, but the linen does the job. His eyes go back up after a while, movements now a habit, and he's met with the old bandage on his shoulder.
He doesn't want to believe she is dead. She might have survived the fall from the metal gateway, might have escaped the city... Just like she might not. He wants to think that somehow, someway, she was the one that helped him kill that terrifying grey man with the rocket launcher. He wants to believe she did want to help him. That Ada didn't entirely lie to him, that she wasn't after the virus only to sell it to someone new. He scoffs to himself. He doesn't know her. Or didn't know. His eyebrows twitch in frustration. He wants her to be alive, and as well as possible. But at the same time, if she were alive, she would need to answer all of his questions, and he knows she wouldn't. If she is dead, all her secrets are buried with her, and while her loss hurts him, he can remember the moments of truth rather than the way she manipulated him to reach her own goal.
His hands tie the wrapping, smoothing it evenly, and the pressure on his chest feels right. He turns off the faucet, and with one more look in the mirror, turns off the light to walk back into the bedroom. The silence and lack of things to do send shivers back down his spine, and the infuriating agony of waiting invades him once again. He needs to find something to do, to occupy his mind before he takes the gun and shoves it in his mouth.
Leon walks up to the coffee table, hissing when he bends down to pick up his phone. The sturdy Nokia lights up with a caller ID, and he is certain he never picked up a call as quickly.
"Claire!"
"Leon! Hi!" She sounds thrilled to hear his voice, and he feels a literal ball of nerves going back down his body, relief washing over him.
"How are you? And Sherry? They got you to a safe place, right?" Leon doesn't even have time to feel stupid: of course they were taken to safety. He only needs to hear her say it.
"We're both okay! Some docs tested and patched us up quickly, then we got sent to a hotel for the time being. When our quarantine will be lifted, we should be able to go back to civilization."
She sounds chipper, like all that shit out there was just a picnic gone wrong. He envies her, wishes he could act that way, just brush it all off and move on. Then he remembers he's alone and she's with Sherry. Claire can't afford to crumble down with her, she needs to be there, to support her and make her believe everything will be alright, soon. Leon guesses if Sherry wasn't there, Claire would be as helpless as him. He shakes his head and offers a breathy laugh.
"I'm glad..." He really is. Too many people died because of his incompetence, he wouldn't be able to bear Claire and Sherry's disappearance as well. "I'm at a hotel too. Nobody told me when I'd get out, but it shouldn't be long."
"Yeah, I hope so. I need a break from anything Raccoon City-related." She chuckles, her voice sounding soft even through the plastic Nokia case. He feels a smile stretch on his lips.
"By the way, did you have any contact with your brother? Is he alright too?"
"Oh, yeah Chris! He contacted me a few hours ago. Said he was fine and he'd be meeting us soon with the BSAA."
BSAA? What was that? Leon frowns but doesn't interrupt her. Is it part of the army?
"Oh, actually, I think someone here wanted to talk to you, Leon." Claire declares, a teasing tone in her voice.
"Hm? What? Who?" His brain is heavy in his skull, fatigue catching up to him. He can't guess who could want to talk to him in particular.
There is movement on the line, the phone shuffled from one hand to another in silence.
"Leon!" Sherry's voice rings in the device, and for the second time that day, all his fatigue is going down the drain, the voice of the child single-handedly brushing off the dark clouds over his head. Only breakfast manages to do that.
"Sherry!" He answers excitedly. "I'm happy to hear you! How are you?"
"I'm okay! Claire and I are at the hotel! I hope we leave soon, I'm tired of sticking here."
Oh, how he gets that.
"Don't worry, you'll be out soon. You just stay with Claire, okay? She'll take good care of you."
It's not a stretch to affirm it: Sherry depends on Claire now. With both her parents gone, the city she probably grew up in blown up, and no living family, Claire is the sister figure she needs. Leon hopes they will be able to stay together even after those events. It's another story for him. He cares about the little girl. He cares about Claire. He wants them safe. He wants to see them both smile and grow older. But.. He can't see himself being with them. He won't be. He knows it. If he doesn't blow his brains in the upcoming nights, he will be dragged somewhere else. He is a cop, but he's seen too many things and knows too much information. He's afraid he breathes his last smiles with them, hotels apart, the greying of the phone masking their feelings.
When the call ends, he feels empty again. Empty but full of fear, anger, unshakable terror, of disgust. Against the world, against himself. He wants to rush back to the bathroom to re-open his wound only to patch them up again, so he can absorb himself in the violence of blood. He wants to take his combat knife, gifted by Lieutenant Branaghn, which he couldn't save either, and dig it into someone's eye socket. He wants to sneak inside the armory in one of the many rooms to take a shotgun and blow the remaining zombies outside. He wants to do it all over again. He needs to exorcise his thoughts by doing the same thing, over and over, so he can think about nothing else, and forget the human emotions creeping up, forget the guilt and pain and regret.
Someone knocks at the door, and Leon immediately takes the Matilda gun with him.
Behind the door, the government.
Behind the door, an offer he can't refuse.
Beyond the door, more pain. More death.
He picks up his shirt and follows the two bulky men, sensing blood oozing out of him once again, the last remnants of police officer Leon Kennedy trailing behind him.
---------------------------------
In the final fight, Leon can actually get slashed on the ass, but I thoughts it would be too cruel to have his wound here, so I took pity.
One day, I hope to do another one with RE4!
