cw // poorly written make out scene, two people that hate each other have to work on a project together trope :)

peter parker infuriated you. no, enraged you. the perfect little teacher’s pet. always a second faster to answer a question. always a ready to one-up you. and the most hair-pulling part was the stupid little smirk he makes when he successfully pushes your buttons.

“who can tell me the answer to this question?” your professor turns and your hand shoots up. you smile, knowing there is no possible way that parker put his hand up before you. plus, you 100% know the answer. you feel giddy, but when you look over across the room. you see that smirk on his face.

“wow, unsurprisingly, parker and (l/n) are the first to raise their hands.” your professor chuckles and a quiet chuckle spreads through your class. “however, mr. parker, you were first. so,” you lower your hand. stewing in rage., you tune out the rest of your professor as stupid peter parker gets the question right. you can feel his smirk burning into your head.

“partners have already been chosen, so no need for arguments. it was all random. aaaand, i think that’s it. as long as your project follows the rubric, you will get an A.” your professor looks half-drunk as he stands in front of everyone. he sits back down, very haphazardly, and lets the projector do the rest of the work. the room fills with “hellos” and “nice to meet yous” as people meet for the first time. you scan for your name and your stomach fills with dread.

“shit.” you turn and see him making his way over to the professor’s desk. you race to pack up your things.

“that is it for today, projects are due next week on thursday, so no class till then.” your professor calls out as people start leaving. you sprint over to the professor and just in time, parker lines up next to you.

“professor.” “professor!” you both speak simultaneously. you glare at parker and he rolls his eyes. you hear your professor groan and rub his forehead.

“yes, you two.” he responds, tired.

you quickly jump in before parker, “please, can you switch my partner?”

“yeah, professor. it’d be great if you could.” your professor stares at the both of you as parker talks.

“why?” your professor asks, very irritated. the both of you start talking, but he stops you. “nevermind, i don’t care. if you want to stop being partners, that’s fine by me.” you feel an immense amount of relief, “however, you will fail the class.” and just like that, the panic was back. “so, i’d recommend you get along for the sake of your grades.” you start to protest, but seeing the look on his face, you stop. you both apologize and walk out. humiliated, you don’t look at him and try to walk the other way.

“are you leaving without even talking about this project?” parker calls out. you stop. holding back a long sigh, you turn and walk back to him. “we’ll meet at my dorm at 5 and start the project.” he says, looking down at you. you grit your teeth and nod, too pissed to care about the project.

“yeah, that’s fine.” you press your lips into a thin line and walk off.

when you see him again, he’s opening the door to let you in.

“i don’t have a roommate, so you don’t have to be worried about being disturbed.” parker heads back to the table where everything is set up. leaving you standing at his doorway. you feel a strong urge to chuck your backpack at his head. probably sensing your hatred, he turns and raises an eyebrow at you. as you walk over, you see a stack of books ready to be opened. the moment you sit down, parker starts talking.

“so, we can start off by researching on what topic we’ll do. i have a couple ideas, since i went to the library before you to look for some books, but i’m sure-” you roll your eyes at his superiority complex and parker stops. “what.”

“nothing.” you respond, curtly. opting to open one of the books in the stack.

“no, obviously you have some sort of issue, so spit it out.” he grits, ripping the book out of your hands.

“what the fuck?” you exclaim, rather loudly. you try to tug it back, but he doesn’t budge. “what the- fine. i don’t like how you act like you’re better than me.” you poke his chest in indignation. “i don’t like how you feel the need to one-up me in class.” another poke. “i don’t like that stupid.” poke. “fucking.” poke. “smirk.” he grabs your wrist.

“oh like you didn’t start this whole fucking thing, (l/n).” he rolls his eyes, not letting go.

“i did not!”

“did too! i was just participating in class, i wanted to be friends.”

“you came up to me AND BRAGGED ABOUT YOUR GRADES!”

“I WASN’T BRAGGING. I DIDN’T THINK YOU’D TAKE THAT WAY.”

“YOU-“ you lower your voice, but its stilled filled with malice as you continue, “you should’ve watched your fucking tone.”

“well, its not my fault you chose to take it like a dumbass.” he stops.

“a what, parker.” you glare and he glares back.

“fuck you, (y/n).” he growls. he gets up.

“fuck you too, peter.” you spit. you get up. you both stand chest to chest, breathing heavy.

“oh fuck this.”

“what-” peter pulls you into a searing kiss. every ounce of his feelings pour into it and you kiss him back. your eyes flutter closed. his hand lets go of your wrist and to the back of your head, pressing you closer. your hands pull at the collar of his shirt. you bite at his bottom lip, he hisses, and bites right back. you’re both a mess of saliva and anger as you bite and kiss each other. his tongue licks at your lip as it starts to bleed. his hands move from your head to your waist. clutching your sides like a lifeline and your hands move to his hair. you pull his brown hair and he groans. you pull away and you open your eyes to see his lips chase after yours. his face bright red, you hold back a giggle.

“i hate you.” you say, breathlessly. peter’s eyes open to see your soft smile.

“i hate you too.” he smiles.

BTS Rapline Triptych '23 - surrealist painting

i wanna be a human 'fore i do some art - yun by rm (feat. erykah badu)

it's been nearly 5 years since my last rapline triptych, and 3 years since my last bts fanart, but after listening to agust d's latest album (in conjunction with rm and jhope's releases last year) i got a sudden wave of inspiration to do a surrealist inspired work!

this is based on the lyrics and general vibes of a few of my favourite songs from the albums (such as polar night, yun and equal sign!) as well as an interpretation of my own journey through the last 3 years or so...

see the individual panels below with a lil explanation to my thought process~

i had actually originally planned to have suga be surrounded by flames (very similar to my 2018 triptych), but decided that the flames suited jhope's panel more (because of the connection to the song arson), so settled for a bathtub filled with... a red liquid (is it blood? is it wine? you decide lol)

part of my thought process was focused on the way his album in particular comments on how we change, and also how that can be a painful thing to reckon with. the last few years have felt very much like we've all been forced to choose either to sink or to swim, and while we decide we remain in some sort of limbo... the closed door and empty room are a part of this feeling (and also something i was inspired to do after watching his music video for amygdala).

the 'shadows' connected to rm (which also cross over into the first panel) are supposed to represent the concept of past selves. rm's album 'indigo' emphasises the idea of the self, and how to feel much more at ease with who you are now whilst not completely letting go who you were then.

the central black splotch (technical term) is based on work by the artist yun hyongkeun who was the inspiration for the song 'yun' (which is also where the written lyrics above are from). i liked the way his works looked like voids, with rough unfinished edges, drawing you in like a cave. i wanted this part to be the only real dark part of this central panel. i was a little worried this panel would look out of place because of that, but i kinda realised that that's the point!

this panel is very much a reflection of what it is to be an artist, and a human. and in the sea of soulless ai and the commercialised art market, it was kinda refreshing to create something that i didnt try and harmonise. the colours dont feel like they necessarily go together and the glitched flames from the final panel create a confusing mess in the centre of the piece, as a central focal point of the whole piece it honestly looks kinda bad to me, but i dont care! mess is an integral part of being human, and being human is an integral part of being an artist.

i originally planned for there to be lightning to coming out of the cloud because of the storm-y vibe of jhope's album, but i thought it'd clash with the fire so went with some rain instead lol. the album carries a lot of themes of the pressure of success, living up to other people's (and your own) expectations, and struggling with what you want out of life vs what you need! and i tried to reflect this in the cloud 'hat' on his head.

i wanted to add some open doors to contrast with suga's closed door, but whereas suga's door has a thin gleam of light coming through the seam, jhope's doors all lead to darkness. the fear of what lies beyond those doors isn't lessoned when the door is open, if anything it's heightened! the doors could also be empty, given that a lot of my motivation for art has felt lacking in the last 3 years lol...

the additional faces came about by accident but i really like how they came about lol. in a way i was trying to give the portraits a traditional ink drawing style, as well as continuous line drawing to fit with the surrealism theme. they represent the 'self' in all its forms, who we are inside, who we are to others, who we want to be etc. all three of the albums explore themes of self, and in their cases specifically who they are in a world where their success is almost unparalleled. i dont relate to this (ofc) but i do relate to the dilemma of how to stay true to that self whilst grappling with our commercialised and over materialistic world.

finding that faith in yourself as well as faith in art to bring you back to yourself has been hard for everyone and i found it really humbling to see that same pain i feel reflected back in the form of music.

ultimately this piece is about finding reasons to live and to keep going, and desperately doing that all through my art. something i've always done, but has been especially difficult in recent years. and like the albums themselves, this isn't the end of a journey, but instead a midway point, a crossroads, where we can look back and look forward in equal measure trying to make sense of everything...

Jack in the box thoughts while I listen to it for the 98th time - on a train ride!

First of all I love mythology and thoughtful people

Second of all oh my god I am so grateful for this album

It's very existence brings me happiness even tho it is generally dark

The songs are too short!

I need 16 minutes of =(Equal sign)

Repetition! Repeating words. I love that from him.

You know how sometimes people who are not really talented get famous for some mediocre stuff yeah is not his case because he is one of the best in kpop and we do not deserve him.

Songs!

Intro - yes yes will always listen to mythology thanks.

Pandora's box - I love the piano and the vibe and I have a feeling this song is very important to him. The rap is amazing, I had chills. Amazing opening song, very bold and open.

More. When the first concept photos came I KNEW I will adore the song. I was a punk teen (I'm the same age as Hobi) and oh boy it suits Hoseok so well. I adore the beat, the lyrics and his deep voice and screaming oh my god I can't wait for him to perform this live.

Inhale inhale, exhale exhale - that's how I combat first signs of anxiety ok Hoseok ok.

I SAY MORE!

The repetition of the first part at the end is 👌 the way he distorted his voice 👌

Stop - when I first heard it I loved it so much but needed to read the translation... the beat and his rapping, the repetitions and message of english parts is great, I knew as much. Again the old hip hop vibe. Is it a commentary? And then I read the translation! 😁 Third fav song.

= (Equal Sign) is my close second favorite. It's exactly what I expected from him and I am gonna recieve it with open arms and gratitude because I feel seen (as a woman, as LGBT, as a person on a spectrum, you name it)

Is too short tho!

Music box : Reflection - somebody said don't get attached to the trailer music hahaaaa thanks Hoseok for this beauty. I usually skip intros but not this one. Hehe.

What if is such a gem. Again with the repetitions and come on the LYRICS. The presentation! The theme! The old hip hop vibe! Go on Hoseok, go wild and dark.

The way he questions himself and his persona. Speechless.

Can I do that shit?

Safety zone is so close to my heart I almost cried when I heard it first 😁 It reminded me of Hope world but better, how far Hoseok went and how he's constantly improving.

I cried again when I read the lyrics. Another personal song. We don't deserve him.

Definitely another of my faves. The chorus makes me want to sit with him by a fire and have a deep existencial talk.

Future is so fine and bubbly and gives me so much hope and happiness (I need it these days) like you know all will be Ok just go with the flow~

Arson is my song you guys I can't stop listening to it (will be on my spotify wrapped with Running up that hill)

The lyrics!!

The adlibs!! At 0:45-1:13. And then again in the chorus. Ok ok the entire song is GODLIKE using headphones. The beat resonates with me on a personal level yes thank you for coming to my ted talk.

The musicality in this man.

The album feels so personal and real. Like the persona is almost pealed off of him and you can see the real Jung Hoseok - complicated, troubled, hopeful, introverted, tallented, musical, kind, intelligent, poetic, hardworking, thoughtful, isolated, looking for himself - knowing, that his artificial persona is also a part of him and you can't get it off.

The album is dark and has jhope's signature all over it but ultimately it gives me more hope that anything and I love that.

I love all of the songs and usually listen to the entire album as it is arranged. But if I have to choose:

Arson, Equal sign, Stop, Safety Zone, What if, More, Pandora's box, Future.
