Preamble: the state of Beleriand after the First Battle

Ah fuck guess I'm writing this now. Bullet-point style because all the best AUs use it (yes I'm talking about @thelordofgifs's The Fairest Stars) and definitely not because I'm lazy.

Quick synopsis of the First Battle in Y.T. 1497:

Morgoth upon his return sends two orc-hosts through the northern passes, the west-host down Sirion and Narog and the east down Celon and Gelion.

The east-host is beaten by Thingol and the Laiquendi, but the Laiquendi take heavy losses, and their king Denethor and his kin are all slain on Amon Ereb before Thingol can reinforce them.

The dwarves of Mount Dolmed deal with the surviving orcs.

The west-host cuts Thingol off from Círdan, and the Falathrim are driven back to Eglarest and Brithombar and besieged.

The aftermath:

Thingol pulls his people into Neldoreth and Region, and Melian raises the Girdle. Doriath is founded.

The surviving Laiquendi either scatter into Ossiriand or join with Thingol's people.

Orcs have the run of West Beleriand.

Eglarest and Brithombar are besieged until Fëanáro's host arrives and the siege is called off to go deal with them (and they're destroyed by Tyelkormo's forces).

...But in this universe, Fëanáro and the rest of the Noldor are still on the Helcaraxë for another 25 solar years.

Now we're getting into conjecture:

In canon, Eglarest and Brithombar are besieged and destroyed a year after the Nírnaeth, thanks to Morgoth's siege engineers. This is despite the elves of Nargothrond helping to rebuild the cities during the Long Peace, and the Falathrim's reinforcement by survivors of the battle and the fall of Hithlum. Only a few survivors escape with Círdan to Balar and the mouths of Sirion. Three fleeing ships also sail far further south and found Edhellond near where Dol Amroth will eventually be. The rest of the Havens' inhabitants are killed or captured.

It's still Y.T. 1497. Morgoth hasn't had centuries to innovate his siege technology, but Círdan's cities also haven't been rebuilt with Noldor walls.

The Grey Annals says Fëanáro's host arrives some seven solar years after Melian raises the Girdle.

(Yes if we go by the usual "1 tree year = 9.582 solar years" then it could've been upwards of 25 solar years since the Darkening in 1495 before the landing at Losgar.)

(I hate Tolkien's timelines sometimes.)

Círdan holds out for over a decade. The orcs can't completely starve them thanks to the ocean, but repeated assaults on the walls wear down the defenders, and there's only so much fish and seaweed.

Meanwhile, the Northern Sindar of Mithrim and Nevrast are constantly harassed by the rest of Morgoth's west-host. Círdan sends ships north to evacuate those he can, but he only has so many ships and men.

The orcs have them cut off from Doriath, but they're not living this far away from Menegroth because they like Thingol's rule. They theoretically acknowledge him as king but realistically mostly ignore him.

(Any claims that Thingol hates them due to closeness to Angband and rumors they sometimes serve as Morgoth's spies are unfounded exaggerations.)

And while normally he'd ignore them in turn, they're still his people in some form or another.

Thingol sends what sorties he can to harry the west-host, but Doriath's forces are still exhausted from the First Battle and much of the kingdom's resources are tied up in getting the many refugees settled.

It also doesn't help that Melian warns him that should he die, her grief will not allow her to stay on the continent and maintain the Girdle.

One of his chief vassals is dead, and the other is besieged. His lands are being ravaged. But he can't leave his borders, because he isn't willing to risk himself (and therefore the Girdle) falling and exposing the main part of his people to attack.

So he throws himself into making sure his people are as happy as can be and entrusts the war to his captains.

So that's the state of things for the next 15 solar years. Orcs gradually hunt down the remaining wandering Sindar who don't find shelter in Doriath or some hidden refuge. Mithrim and Nevrast slowly depopulate from the Falathrim's evacuation missions, orcs, and what few refugees can sneak by Morgoth's forces to Doriath. Thingol holds lavish banquets and listens to Beleg and Mablung's reports while everyone else sleeps off the wine. He doesn't permit himself time to cry.

Midway through Y.T. 1498, Brithombar falls.

Au where michael represses most of his memories of evan and later on evan’s spirit discovers it and thinks that he was never important enough to be remembered… he still tries to make mike remember by appearing before him at freddys, not to antagonize him, but to make him Know. Specially after seeing the rest of the animatronics attacking him (evan doesnt want the last family member he had alive to die without remembering him)( he probably doesn’t want him to die, period, but oh well) it doesnt really work except for keeping mike awake during his shifts, but that eventually becomes enough, to Evan

Until mike stars to recover part of those memories, and starts to understand why golden freddy kept telling him ‘its me’

And mike gets to see evan again in after setting him on happiest day, reassuring him. He is and was loved, and he will treasure those memories he managed to recover

awwww. I don't normally like takes where Mike repressed away the Bite/Evan, but this. I like this. This is nice.

Allow me to make it sadder, though. Because Evan's memories are probably shaky and wobbly as a ghost; he has a hard time remembering details about himself and his own life. I'm sure that upon seeing Michael at fnaf 1, he hoped that Michael could help him piece together his memories (what was my favorite toy? Did I have any friends? What did I do to calm down? I'm so scared, how do I calm down?), only to slowly realize Mike doesn't know anything either. Evan struggling to help Mike remember him when evan himself barely knows who he himself is. Evan screaming "it's me" to make Mike remember when Evan himself can't remember his own name, can't scream "it's Evan, your brother" but is only able to say "it's me, i know you somehow and i know you know me so please, please recognize me before it's too late."

It must be very scary for evan, knowing that if mike dies, then there will be no one to remember evan. It'll feel like he never even existed, never mattered, and if no one remembers him, how is he meant to remember himself? How is he meant to move on and find peace?

And then Mkke starts getting his memory back, but every memory he gets back HURTS. Partly bc Mike has to relearn the awful truth of what happened between them, but also bc every happy memory of the little brother he no longer has just smothers him in grief. So Evan watches Mike getting his memories back, but he also watches Mike being HURT by his memory. But even tho the memories hurt, Mike still fights to get them back, reassuring evan that he's worth remembering. A happy ending after all.

JD AND PRESENT MIC WOULD BE BUDDIES. Okay so like imagine, just imagine, JD deciding to steal their dad's credit card (they always do and honestly Satan after his beat down by Inko which was hilarious stopped caring) to take Izuku to a Pro-Hero Signing. They pick Present Mic.

As soon as these two lock EYES it's 'this is my new bestie'. Both are just... they like the same music, are badasses soft for their partners, dress similar and are also nonbinary hoes. It works.

JD and Present Mic become friends, meaning Inko meets Aizawa and then Tensei and Nemuri and then Izuku meets Tenya and it's so freaking awesome. YES.

It would be rly heartbreaking if naruto incorporates little bits of all his precious people into his style in this life. Like maybe he grows his hair out, gets some tattoos, wears certain clothes, etc.

Is his quirk just chakra manipulation or maybe something specifically fox related? Like a kitsune quirk where he earns his tails by gaining certain skills or going though some traumatic experiences. Maybe a kitsune/chakra fusion quirk?

Naruto pulls a Kakashi and just pulls in little things personality, visually, or in memorial.

He gets the leaf symbol tattooed on his arm. He grows out his hair. He hones his killing intent and the ability to smile with just his eyes even when the world was falling apart around him.

He watches the people he loves that don’t remember him, that perhaps will never remember him, most of which have gravitated to being heroes whether the remember being heroes or not, hoarding his memories of them close to his chest for him to cherish.

As for a possible quirk it would depend on if this is just plucking Naru out of time and place and dumping him in the future/alt universe vs reincarnation or another reason. If he’s was just yeeted he would still have Kurama and his chakra that he can pass off as a quirk. If it’s reincarnation for him as well then I could see it either being a kitsune quirk or a chakra manipulation quirk.

It is late and sleepy brain has handed me an idea for Welcome Home based on a cool au here that I love and a niche comic series that's owned a chunk of my brain since middle school. And I am going feral over this and desperately wanna share it with people and get stuff to help me turn it into a full-fledged au and not just a random idea.

Secret Weirn Wally that's been acting as the guardian for Welcome Home ever since he got there by accident and has been using magic to make himself look like a puppet/hide that he's much more like a human than everyone else.

Home is actually his Astral, but he figured out a spell that lets it control the house he lives in to better keep watch/protect everyone.

The eating with his eyes thing is from him using a spell to eat it without revealing that he's got teeth (or smthn).

"I'm Sleeping" chant is to actually keep himself awake bc if he falls asleep properly he'd lose control of the spell that kept him looking like a puppet. (He does sleep normally when inside the house and is certain that no one will see him.)

Flat tones of speech are partially just him, partially him trying to maintain the low-level concentration needed to keep his disguise going. (He is trying very hard to be a Normal Day-Person/Puppet for these lovable little guys.)

He's probably been spotted at least once as his real self but used magic to make the neighbor that saw him forget. He feels super guilty about it and swore he would never do it again unless there was no other choice.

He is so protective of his little puppet buddies, he would commit violence for them. He would do so much violence for them.

The vow of not using memory magic on anyone again is probably what starts the spiral of him getting found out since so much of what he does rn is built around keeping his concentration and being hidden.

He probably lies and gives a fake name if someone does manage to see/talk to him whilst not a puppet. (Will, perhaps?)

Possibly does stuff to intentionally make himself look different so they won't make the connection if he's spotted. Laving his hair in a bun instead of his usual pompadour, skipping his sweater/cardigan, wearing more muted colors, etc.

Somehow Hen being as much of a gossip btch as Marv is SO funny to me like imagine your doppelganger telling you your bet is sht and their theory is SO MUCH better.

Hehehe I’m starting to love this Henrik a bit too much (can you tell?) and I definitely imagine that he doesn’t work problems and theories out in his head because he can work them out with a doppelgänger. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s fought himself physically before for the fun of it or to release some pent up frustration if he can’t solve something. “If I beat myself in an arm wrestling competition, am I weak or am I strong?”

The doppelgängers also keep their individual memories until they merge with others then the memories get shared so one could go out and learn new stuff and come back to the group to prove the rest of the doppelgängers wrong because he’s not above saying “I told you so” to himself. I imagine it’s pretty cathartic
