Based on this self indulgent post I wrote the other day, about a Kuro AU feauturing 5 years old Ciel and a new demon dad who's doing his best. Suddenly this little scene popped into my mind, then I remembered my talented fren @grelleswife's Dadbastian fanfic The Wolf (link here!) so I guess that, even though it's not exactly the same setting, I must have gotten subconsciously inspired by it 😅
During his days in the cult all little Ciel could do was try to survive the best way his young mind could think about, and when he had just been rescued by the demon he was weak and sickly, barely alive even, and then pretty much catatonic. Once the dust has settled, however, the realization that his family won't come back dawns on him, and he starts having nightmares about monsters with deformed faces that laugh while hurting him. Moreover, even though he's supposed to be back at his house the place doesn't feel too familiar. The first night the demon hears the child screaming and crying, they try to comfort him as best as they can with the scanty knowledge they have about comforting children. After a while they have an idea, based on the partially burned portrait they found from which they could make out the shape of the family pet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(You ain't foolin' anyone trash demon, you're starting to care about the smol).
When Ciel wakes up the next morning, he's still surrounded by the borzoi's slender but fluffly body. He yawns and rubs his eyes, and then sits up and just stares at the creature that looks so much like his late pet. "Good morning, child." the voice coming from the dog says, without really expecting an answer, "Did you sleep well?" After a pause, the child that up until this point hadn't spoken at all utters a single word, albeit almost in a whisper. "Hm? I am afraid I could not hear that. Come again?" Ciel lifts a little hand, points a finger at the animal and raises his voice a bit. "Sebastian." "Ah. Well, yes, I guess you can call me that from now on, if you so wish." the demon answers with a small nod, and Ciel could swear he sees his snout twist into a faint smile. Sebastian then sleeps on Ciel's bed, in the form of the soft borzoi, every night until the child is a little older and can be alone at night.

the sea makes bones of bodies
At the question (or maybe just Nami, a reprieve from talking to Zoro—who he's still vaguely afraid of) Usopp perks up. “Kind of! I mean, yeah—the big Sun God in the Trench. But also the sea gods themselves, and the missing Moon God—it’s a whole thing,” he says, waving his hands as Nami crosses the deck, book tucked under her arm. Usopp trails off again but she gestures him onward and plops next to Zoro, dangling her feet over the open water, too. “Go on,” she says. He stares at them both before letting out a strangled kind of, “Do you actually want to know?” Zoro and Nami exchange a look. “We have a keen interest in the local wildlife,” Zoro drawls, and Nami snorts out a laugh. The sound startles Usopp, who might be one of the most skittish people Zoro has ever met—second only to Koby, maybe. Nami elbows Zoro in the side, trying (and failing) to hide her smile as he flips her the middle finger in return. “Local legends, then,” she amends.

Do You Forgive Me? — [ Faith/Max 📿 AU ]
I always told myself, on those hard nights – you, so close, sleeping next to the man you were supposed to be next to – if you showed up, if you asked me to, I would take off the collar and go with you. Anywhere in the world.

Bassist!Eskel ..... from my favorite headcanon (Rock/Metal Band AU)
It's a headcanon i've been carrying around for ages now. Dragging it from fandom to fandom. I think it finally feels right to settle with this idea in the Witcher fandom, developing and keep creating more content for this very idea.
Inspired by one of my fave bands.
Further members of the band:
Lambert (drums)
Aiden (guitar)
Geralt (unclean vocals)
Jaskier (clean vocals)
Yen/Triss (manager)

thinking about my au where after the trial the dads are actually just transported into another universe where jodie was transplanted and they replaced their alt-universe selves.
so there are small details that the kids notice (except for nicholas) that are kinda... off, but it's not big enough of a shift to notice until reminiscing about childhood memories and like it doesn't matter (it does matter but that's only half of the story)
point is that without them, their home universe kinda crumbles, as the narrative is about Them and why even exist if there's no purpose? so everyone kinda just fades away over a short span of time (thinking around a week) as the world loses its flavor.
....buuuut nick's still there.
because the dads are The Dads, right. it's their defining characteristic. they need to have children to be dads (if the child is dead it doesn't matter, just needs to exist in the universe). the children are... kind of like anchors.
so if their children stopped existing, what then? well, it was a simple solution-- they got linked to the new verse kids. done done. new anchor, continued existence, "forever" relevance, hoorah.
only problem is that glenn doesn't have a kid. and he's not a dad anymore. so like, what's the point of his being there? nicholas is technically completely unrelated to him. in the new verse, it's said that he's darryl's friend who's just. there. in-auniverse and in a more meta concept sense, he really shouldn't have been there.
(eventually, glenn won't need an anchor anymore because of the relationship he develops with nicky but for now he needs a weight to assert his existence in the narrative)
erasing him from existence kind of goes against the court ruling because then why all the shenanigans. so he still has an anchor, though the new universe is unaware of it
so nick is still there.
nick is... not fully what he used to be. he seems overall the same, but he's in a sort of... stasis? like the most obvious effect is not aging but there are mental effects too. his and glenn's relationship and place in the world can't really change, so he doesn't.
he's like an ice sculpture now metaphorically-- fading like the rest of the world, but his process is slower because he's connected to glenn and he's still important to the story. he has approximately until the s1 finale until he starts getting into the danger zone. the worlds aren't exactly synced up time-wise, but time shifts and flows and the universes drift so there's never a concrete ratio-- usually worlds sync by story beat but. yea
so he's just wandering the world as it breaks apart. he's the only reason that it's still there, actually-- it becomes weaker as he does, as it loses its purpose completely.
by some chance, nicholas manages to contact nick then Stuff Happens.
cue shenanigans, primarily with nicholas and nick but several other people come into play too like glenn and jodie and morgan
(yes nick still dies in the end but there is Closure with the family okay. can't spell closure without close. do you get it)

OK FOLLOWING UP ON THE BARD THING i think eichi definitely invited wataru to perform at a noble party before. because they'd usually have musicians and so? so ok picture this. it's eichi's birthday so his parents want him to hold a ball and he usually thinks those are annoying but then he gets an idea. make it a masquerade (for the drama). invite wataru as both a performer And his partner for the ball. he's an actor! and everyone is of course impressed by wataru's performance but they're even more impressed because the always polite but unreachable tenshouin heir is expertly dancing with a masked stranger (i love the fact that eichi's specialty in his profile is ballroom dancing). and then they're annoying and overdramatic in public together but no one can figure out Who That Is
and also i know you said that shu was a tailor but i think it would be funny if he also were a noble (his family is also of high standing in canon i think) so he can be there to judge eichi. harshly. i havent figures out yet how to make him besties w wataru but ! it can work
!!!!
This got soooo long again so this is once more put under read more I am so sorry
The idea with the Masquerade comes up while Eichi complains to Wataru about his parents pretty much forcing him to throw a ball for his upcoming birthday (they already planned the whole thing and didn't reallly give him a choice in the matter) and how much of a hassle he thinks that is because of all the superficial politeness between people that everyone knows are gossipping about each other behind each others backs and how sick he is of the pretending to be well acquainted with these people he's talked to maybe once or twice and all the ladies that wish to dance with him and that want to suck up to him because of his families wealth and how really this is all just one big farce to "save face". So Wataru suggests "why not make it a masquerade ball" to spice things up a little bit maybe, take some of the stiffness out of it. And Eichi says he wants to invite Wataru because what's a public event without proper entertainment? Wataru agrees of course and they come up with all of these overly grandiose ideas and scenarios (most of them are utterly absurd. One they genuinely consider involves Wataru pretending to kidnap Eichi and causing a scandal (Eichi woud miraculously reappear the next day and they'd gaslight everyone into thinking that never even happened and all the people are just imagining things)).
Wataru mentions that he'll be gone for an evening to play at the noble's ball to the elderly inn-keeper couple over dinner and they make a really big fuss about it and tell him to dress nicely and to watch his manners because "Remember, you can't just drop from the ceiling with those high society people like we let you do it here they're very sensitive about manners you have to make sure to watch your manners!" and for a minute he wonders how it got to the point that his landlords started to treat him like they personally picked him up from the street when he was a child.
I like to think he met Shu when he was out on the street doing a little street performance to earn some extra money for himself and Shu, the way that he is, came by, looked him up and down, and then started a conversation with him about music as an art form and that somehow turned into a philosophical discussion and at the end of that they each went their own ways with the knowledge that there was a new friendship formed that day.
And maybe he's the one that sews Watarus clothes for the ball because if you spent most of your life as a traveling bard living hand to mouth from your music you won't really have the money for fancy clothes (Eichi still insists on paying for Wataru here because he wouldn't need to spend so much money on fancy ballgowns if it wasn't for him in the first place and also he just wants to treat Wataru to something nice and sees this as his chance seeing as Wataru declines most gift offers me made before). Wataru tells him about the entire thing and Shu scoffs because dislikes Eichi (still need to come up with a way to explain that disdain but I will come up with something trust me!) but his parents force him to be there too so "he might as well" (it's obvious he still puts in a lot of care "because of his pride as an artists" (because Wataru is his friend and he wants him to have something nice)).
Shu only has to be there because his family guilt trips him into going and he doesn't see the point in opening that can of worms again ("We already let you pursue your foolish dream of sewing clothes like a commoner this is the least you could do for your family.")
And then at the actual event he's in some secluded corner together with some other people who only attended as a mere formality because they also do not like the Tenshouin family but they have to be there because they're important and aristocrat politics are weird that way I suppose.
Meanwhile Wataru does his usual thing and charms everyone with his beautiful beautiful voice and his elegance and charm and oh he is so agreeable as a performer. Eichi has to handle the usual "pleasantries" (nothing pleasant about those tries) and he exchanges the one or the other suffering glance with Yuzuru when nobody pays attention that just screams "God when will it end". Yuzuru shoots him back a look that conveys the exact emotion of "my condolences" and then he goes on to look for Tori who's 1.53m figure has disappeared in the group of people and when he finds him he's talking to a gentleman that's about a head taller than him and the mask obscures his face but judging by the hair and the slight "animosity" between them he's talking to Tsukasa, so Yuzuru decides he's in good hands and leaves to do his own thing. (do they know they're talking to each other? Who knows! But they'd probably manage to start bickering either way.)
And eventually it gets to the actual Ball bit of the Birthday Ball Event where they actually dance (there's an actual orchestra there now and they play very lovely music). And almost everyone asks to dance with Eichi at least once. Eichi does not want to waste his time and energy on these people who are just interested in him for his money so he always makes up something about being preoccupied or a little tired or something that gives them no other choice but to back off. Suddenly Wataru appears behind him and does a little "boo!" and Eichi didn't expect that so he startles and almost drops his glass and tells Wataru not to do that anymore at public eventshas while Wataru has to stiffle a laugh because he thinks Eichi is cute when he pretends to try to be firm with him. After he's done with his "scolding" (you can barely call it that. he was very soft on Wataru.) Wataru asks him for a dance this time and he's very chivalrous about it - he goes all out really - he kisses his hand and offers him a rose while he does a little bow and asks if he "may have this dance with the lovely star of the evening" (and oh Eichi wants to kiss him so bad right then and there but in a room full of people that are worse than a committee of vultures that is very much not an option). Of course he agrees and they move to the dance floor and suddenly a Lot of eyes are on them because Eichi Tenshouin, whom a good chunk of pursuers have already given up on - because let us be real. It will never happen. The man hasn't shown interest in anyone at any moment in time and lives together with the Himemiya heir and his butler as far removed from the rest of the aristocracy as one would be able to - is waltzing with this masked stranger and it becomes very obvious very quickly that Eichis constant declining of dance offers was not for a lack of expertise because those two look breathtaking together.
Eichi actually dips Wataru once and some people wish they had hired an artist to paint the scene (because I'm a sap and wataei is beautiful I don't care I'm being self indulgent here)). And they talk but nobody can understand what because of the loud music and they curse the orchestra - which is still playing very lovely music (it's heavenly really) - for it.
After their dance is over Eichi goes back to declining every dance offer he gets with the excuse he's exhausted and needs to rest a little before he can dance again (the "I don't wish to dance with you" is implied and in the room but most people chose to ignore it to spare their ego and decide to take him at face value) and Wataru disappears to somewhere, nobody really knows where but somehow he's nowhere to be found. Until he sneaks up to Eichi a second time and does the whole "Boo!" thing again and Eichi almost drops his glass yet another time and as he turns around to "scold" Wataru again Wataru shushes him and takes Eichis, who is more confusedd than anything by now, hand and sneaks out of the ballroom with him.
Eichi asks where they are going and Wataru doesn't answer he just keeps walking and Eichi decides to just trust the process and suddenly they're on the Balcony again, not a cloud in the sky and the only sounds to be heard are the muffled instrumentals from the orchestra that started playing their next piece. The only lightsource being the moonlight reflected by the new years snow. And Wataru turns around, he's not wearing a mask anymore, and he does his little bow and kisses Eichis hand, hands him a rose he had appear from nowhere - a white one this time - and does his entire "May I have this dance with the lovely star of the evening" spiel again. It's the same routine really but it's different somehow. More intense. Because he says it with more sincerity than he did when they were around more people. And Eichi doesn't even have to reply before he finds himself whisked into this waltz yet again, somehow in the leading position. And then they dance and they dance and it's just the two of them, the stars as their only witnesses. And as the orchestra finishes their piece and the music fades out Eichi dips Wataru again and they kiss and it is so sappy and they are so so so so sappy.
They stay out on the balcony a little while longer but they retreat back inside rather timely seeing as it is still january and the night and as the following consequence of those two circumstances actually pretty cold and they'd both rather Eichi not get sick (he already got Watarus coat but then they'd also both like it very much if Wataru also didn't get sick either so they migrate back into the empty, dimly lit hallways of the mansion rather quickly)
(meanwhile at the actual ball people have noticed Eichi missing and started to ask questions, poor Yuzuru has to repeatedly tell people Eichi probably retreated into his quarters already, seeing as it is rather late and he was rather tired "Please excuse the young master for his failing in notifiying the other guests, he told me he didn't wish to interrupt the nice atmosphere and preferred to leave unnoticed".)
After the festivities died down Yuzuru and Tori go to check up on Eichis room because he's been gone without any notice and it would probably be useful to know if their kind-of-roommate just went away to fool around with that strange bard man they've been seeing sneaking around their mansion from time to time that Eichi seems to be oddly fond of or if the should actually be worried about his well-being. After they knock and get no reply Yuzuru just opens the door and he and Tori are both greeted with the view of Eichi asleep in his bed and next to him the also seemingly fast asleep figure of Wataru who's braid got considerably more lose during the course of the evening and who's also seemingly wearing some of Eichis sleepwear.
They both decide they have seen enough they do neither need nor wish to see more. Yuzuru, who has been in this situation before doesn't even have it in him anymore to react in a specific way. He just lets out this big sigh because he doesn't get paid enough for all of this as he directs Tori out of the room. Tori who has not been in this situation before has a Lot of questions now because he doesn't know this man but he's apparently closer to Eichi than most other people and he doesn't know how to feel about that but happy is probably not it.
(The following day Eichi has to listen to a (rightfully) disgruntled Yuzurus passive-agressive-yet-somehow-still-very-polite-sounding-Yuzuru-complaints about him just disappearing like that and leaving it to Yuzuru to take care of his mess (Eichi promises him to make up for it and that if Yuzuru has any favour to ask he's very welcome to come to Eichi about it). Tori really wants to ask about the strange man Eichi was so involved with but between not really getting a word in while Eichi and Yuzuru are talking and not really knowing how to take the exceedigly good mood Eichi is in (he's had "A very nice evening". With utmost certainty it was for reasons other than him actually enjoying the mingling witht the high society at social function he was obligated to host, Tori guesses), he kind of clinks out here and decides to simply take matters into his own hands when he gets the chance.)
#never let me write anything about them ever again#this got so long again I really just wrote my heart out huh#can you believe I actually researched flower language for this#in the middle I remembered that January is actually really cold at night so maybe I should switch up my approach a little#hm. did that work out? I have no idea#I kind of blacked out somewhere in the middle#Hiyori could've been in this idk he was there too somewhere with Jun or something#Eden attended the event but they're unimportant right now#can you tell I love fairytales by the way I feel like that got a little obvious throughout this entire AU#oh I should make a tag for this I'm actually rather fond of my embarrassing cringefail wataei au rambles#Btw when Wataru comes back home he's also in a very good mood and the elderly inn-keeper couple tease him about it#I've gotten very soft about that little thing that started as a side bit initially#those are his parents now they looked at this guy that has been occupiying this one room for a Long while#and that pays his rent by doing shows for the guests or helping in the kitchen or generally just helping around#some things are just easier when you're young and energetic#and they looked at him and his birds and went ''You're a little strange and off putting but you're part of the family now''#this is way less profound than the first one it's suuuper self indulgent and a little lame but I like indulging from time to time#head in hands i really like wataei#wataei#OH! wait there's symbolism in the dance scene (the second one)#the rest is just me being silly#yumefan🎼🌠#Wataru could wear Eichis clothes no problem I think thats so neat#because they're the same height and it's been said Wataru can pass perfectly for a woman so I assume he has more of a slim frame#chances are Eichis clothes sit loser on him than on Eichi i think that's a little funny#the possibility is there is all I'm saying#<- tag until i figure something out that sounds nicer#Märchen au

i asked vade too, but i wanna hear about fugio and their daughter…. Pita Bread also, for funsies
YES DOMESTIC FUGIO
Okay I think she's "born" through some stand shenanigans. Like they both want a kid and consider traditional methods, but Giorno's grown adept enough at using his stand that he feels confident with trying his hand at creating a child with Gold Experience (listen, if he was that overpowered at 15, the sky's the limit a decade or two down the line).
Sure enough, he does some complicated shit, and they have a daughter. I headcanon that Fugo takes Giorno's surname when they get married, so, in true pretentious Fugio fashion, her name is Viola Fiorenza Giovanna.
When she’s a baby, Fugo is terrified that he’s going to hurt her. He’s come a long way in overcoming his self-hatred and anger issues, but there’s still a part of him that worries about snapping, or even just accidentally putting her in harm’s way. But he’s actually reassured by the way he’s been able to care for their cat, Pita Bread (please see Tony’s posts about Pita Bread if you haven’t. She is so important) - if a fussy, skittish cat like her was able to warm up to him, he must be doing something right. Still, he’s super gentle with Viola, and always keeps himself in check. He never lets her see him angry, and he knows to get space when he’s starting to feel frustrated.
One night, when she’s little, she gets scared over something minor, as kids do - a nightmare, or the monster under under the bed, or the shadows on the wall. Fugo comes to her room to comfort her, and she asks him to stay with her until she falls asleep. According to her, “I know I’m safe if Papa’s here.” When she does eventually drift off, Giorno finds him sitting at the end of her bed, a hand covering his mouth, uncontrollably sobbing.
Knowing his child trusts him, will never see him as the dangerous, cruel person he’d regarded himself as for so long, means more to him than anything.
Giorno is an unorthodox dad in a lot of ways, but a good one. He refuses to do baby talk with her, and he’ll have completely normal conversations with her, even if her only responses are babbling. He’ll just sit on the living room floor with her and go “That’s an incredible building you’ve created with your Legos. Very avant-garde. Your father knows all about the history of architecture, Viola. You really should ask him about it sometime. It’s fascinating. Anyhow, would you like to hear about the stock market?” And she stares at him with wide eyes, comprehending absolutely nothing. This does give her a very advanced vocabulary at a young age, though.
He also gets really anxious at the idea of leaving her alone. He never wants her to feel neglected, so he spends a lot of time carrying her around, listening to her rambling when she’s old enough to speak, and even just sitting and parallel playing with her. When she gets older, it gets a bit stifling, but she never feels like she’s alone - if she needs to talk about something, or just have someone by her side for a while, she can always trust Giorno to be there.
Like her dad, she has a way with animals, and she and Pita Bread are besties. She carries her around in the haphazard way kids do, and Pita Bread doesn’t care at all. They go explore in the backyard and find cool bugs together. She sneaks her scraps off the table, even when Fugo nags her about it. I think Pita Bread has a stand, so maybe, when Viola gets hers, they use their stands to communicate.
Speaking of, Viola takes after Giorno and is a natural-born stand user. This means she gets sick before her stand manifests. It probably happens when Giorno’s out of town on a mission, and Fugo, who never went through this, absolutely freaks out. He full-on panics on the phone with Giorno, wondering what he couldve possibly done wrong, why her illness just keeps getting worse, and Giorno is equally in shambles as he drops everything and rushes home as fast as he can.
Thankfully, she pulls through and obtains her stand (still figuring out what that’s going to be), but it’s an awful, painful memory for both Giorno and Fugo.
As far as random little happier things though. Fugo sings to her when she’s asleep, and she’s always delighted on the rare occasion that he sings while he’s making dinner or something. When she’s old enough, he teaches her how to play piano, and he’ll sing more frequently then. She’s just as interested in bugs and frogs and plants as Giorno is, and he’ll use Gold Experience to make real ones for her to observe. She has Fugo’s strawberry blond hair, nose, and long limbs/fingers, and Giorno’s eyes, height, birthmarks, tiny fangs, and ability to fit her entire ear in her ear canal face shape. She’s super spoiled from having two mafia dads. Narancia, Mista, Sheila, and Trish are her cool uncles and aunts who take her on fun day trips and get her the best birthday gifts. She’s definitely slipped and called both Bucciarati and Abbacchio “Grandpa” before, and she hangs out with the kids at the orphanage they run a lot. I’m basing her adult design off of Stevie Nicks on the cover of Rumours. More info to come on her and Naramis son :]

here's a scene from spider-nance since i still need to write the full thing but i am too preoccupied with haunted hawkins right now. this is still a very rough draft (as i've not even finished this scene/chapter lmao) but this scene has been hidden in my wips folder since...july? so, hope y'all enjoy!
word count: 1.4k
Robin wakes up to a sharp thud followed by the turning click of her window lock. She sits up, squinting into the darkness, scanning her room for the intruder. She reaches for the nearest item she could use as a weapon—Don Quixote suffices—and flicks the lamp on.
In the dim lighting of her room, her eyes land on a red and blue webbed spandex outfit, clutching the side of their ribs. Looking them over now, she sees the torn fabric along with matching gashes and cuts across their arms and torso. The figure is still for a moment. Robin thinks that this person is as stunned as she is.
Spider-Woman is here. Standing. In my room.
“Oh…my god. Oh my god. What are you—“ She scrambles closer to the masked crusader, who, she notices, is wheezing out breaths.
“Are you…do you need to go to the hospital?” She asks. The Spider-Woman’s head twists and immediately hisses at the movement.
“No,” she grunts, “no hospitals.”
Robin blinks at her, the blood still seeping through the blue fabric of the suit. “Okay, no hospitals. Here, uh,” Robin snakes her arm around the girl’s waist, helping her to the foot of Robin’s bed, “Sit here. I’ll be right back.”
Robin’s brain works on autopilot. Dismissing the fact that Spider-Woman is here, and instead making a mental list of medical supplies she’ll need. She wonders, briefly, if she needs to go wake Steve, forcing him to help bandage the hero up. What would she say though? Hey, Steve, I need you to wake up. I have a superhero in my room that needs to be bandaged up, now.
She sprints to the bathroom—too far in her opinion, for the current situation—digging around the medicine cabinet for gauze, bandages, antiseptic, anything and everything she might need and can realistically carry back in one trip.
She realizes, on her way back, that she’s not too sure how she’ll be able to check for a concussion, or actual, visible, facial wounds. She’ll have to peek under the mask to do that, and even though everyone—including herself—would like to know who she is, she can’t help but feel like this would be a betrayal of trust somehow. Though, she guesses, taking her to a hospital where there are tons of possible betrayals waiting to happen. This must be less of a risk, even if it is some random stranger.
When she returns, the Spider-Woman is still clutching the side of her rib, bloody torso be damned, taking slow, deliberate breaths. Robin can handle the cuts and scrapes, but she’s never dealt with anything more than that. She throws the bandages down on the floor, feeling the wide eyes of mask follow her as she works at her makeshift station on the floor.
“So, I got everything I could, I don’t know how badly you’re banged up, but—“
Spider-Woman interrupts her. Not with words, instead, the hand that’s not holding her ribs reaches up, fiddling with the neck of the suit. Robin realizes a second too late that she’s trying to take the mask off.
“Woah, woah, woah,” She stands, grabbing the girl’s shaking hand. Whether it shakes from fear or the sheer pain of her situation, Robin doesn’t know.
“You don’t have to do that,” She adds, “I get the mask is like, protecting your identity and all, so—“
Robin is once again interrupted by the shaking hand of the Spider-Woman, and surprisingly, she speaks, rather than grunts out words.
“No,” she starts, hissing as she lets go of her ribs, moving both hands up her neck, “I want to do this.” Robin blinks at her again, taking a step back as to give her some sort of emotional space. She’s never been privy to a hero reveal before, so she’s not sure how much space one needs emotionally to get through this. Robin notes how intimate it feels, trusting an absolute stranger with your entire identity, trusting them not to sell you out to the cops or to higher government officials. Not that Robin would ever sell her out, and especially not to the Hawkins Police Department. They work a little too closely with the Hawkins Lab, and if Robin tells the cops, they’ll tell the lab. (Robin’s never particularly trusted that lab, if she’s totally honest.)
What if it’s someone she doesn’t like? What if it’s someone who’s made Robin’s life a living hell? Suddenly the idea of the mask brings more comfort to Robin, and she’s not the one who’s risking her life almost every night.
The red webbed gloves peel the back of the mask off first, giving Robin a glimpse of brunette curls falling out. The first person that enters her mind makes her stomach lurch. She’s sure now that she doesn’t want the rest of that mask come off.
The girl peels the rest of the mask off with a soft pop and Robin feels the bile rise in her throat. Her brunette curls are matted, sticking to her face, covered in blood. Her face is adorned in cuts and bruises, a prominent bruise on her left eye, a cut above her brow, and a larger cut on her right cheek. Her lip is split, and blood still drips from the wound. Her heart shaped face is mangled, her jaw clenches and unclenches, holding back the unshed tears in her eyes.
Robin stares, unblinking, unbelieving. “…Nance?”
Nancy smiles at her, tight and watery. “Hey, Robin.”
Robin doesn’t know how to react. Instead, she smiles softly at Nancy. How long has she been doing this alone?
“We’re gonna need more than these bandages. Let’s get you cleaned up, Nance.” Before she knows it, Robin’s hands move of their own accord, snaking back around Nancy’s waist, lifting her up and leading her to the too far bathroom down the hall. She gently sits Nancy down on the edge of the tub, and quickly works on grabbing more bandages from the cabinet and wetting a clean rag.
Robin steps closer to her, rag in hand, tilting Nancy’s head up as she begins to clean the wounds on her face.
“Nancy…what happened?”
Nancy looks through her, no longer clenching her jaw and instead fighting the trembling frown as tears flow freely down her wounded face. She clings to Robin, hands fisted in the soft fabric. Robin holds her, letting her cry, carding her hands through Nancy’s dirtied curls.
(She pushes the urge to press a soft kiss to those curls deep down within her.)
She doesn’t know how long they stay like that. Minutes, hours, it feels like forever. Robin tries to wrap her mind around Nancy’s confession. Nancy, who didn’t even know Robin, who thought she was dating Steve, misplacing her anger on Robin. Nancy who sat next to her in AP Lit, reputation as “the Priss” preceding her, carrying a certain air about her, never once sparing a second glance towards Robin.
Nancy, who Robin had seen in that one AP Lit class, looking like she would pass out, offering her help, to which Nancy refused. Nancy, who snorted at one of Robin’s jokes, trying to conceal her smile as Robin beamed at her. Nancy, who wants to hang out with Robin, declaring that they were friends. Nancy, who’s quickly wormed her way into Robin’s heart, making it a home for herself.
Nancy, who dons this stupid suit and puts her life at risk all most every night. Who stumbled into Robin’s room, nearly torn apart, all because she didn’t want to go to the hospital. Nancy, who is the Spider-Woman.
Nancy, who’s sitting here, bruised, battered and broken, sobbing into Robin’s shirt.
They stay like that a moment longer, long enough for Nancy’s breathing to even out. She takes a deep, shuddering breath, wincing as she does so. She pushes herself off of Robin, and from what Robin can tell, the movement alone is a herculean task.
“Surprise?” Nancy wheezes. Robin doesn’t know how to answer. She wants to be angry, furious, even. She can’t be though, at least, not right now. That doesn’t stop her the next sentence that falls from her mouth.
“Who else knows?” Robin asks, gently wiping the blood from Nancy’s face. Nancy does her best to avoid Robin’s gaze.
“Steve. Mike and his friends. You, now,” Nancy mumbles as Robin places a bandage across Nancy’s cheek...
