S1 and s2 (but especially s1) feel so intimate and grounded and personal. I am watching these character’s lives.
But s3 and s4 (ESPECIALLY s3) feels fake and removed. I’m watching a tv show.
#and yeah yeah i know i know it IS a tv show and maybe im giving the earlier seasons too much credit#but man :/ you can really feel the switch and its rough to watch sometimes#i think it comes down to colors + cinematography + production design a lot of things#also i think ive stated this before and sorry to repeat myself#but my blog is just a stream of consciousness tbh i just say whatever im feeling atm#and right now its relevant!#robin rambles#stranger things

1-a posting? on MY side character blog? it's more likely than you think
anyway here's my take on a Yaomomo redesign! featuring some notes explaining why it wouldn't in fact hinder her quirk more than her canon costume does, because people like complaining about that :)
yes i am aware that the most efficient solution for her is still the sports bra/sleeveless crop top + shorts combo, but it makes for this really sporty look and i wanted to give her something more classy/smart looking instead, which is why i decided to try a dress
another thing i had in mind while designing this was including a bunch of hexagon and pentagon-ish shapes because. y'know. carbon rings. chemistry. i also tried to make her visor resemble lab goggles a little
as my main inspirations for this i'm crediting lavendertowne on youtube (that's where i got the dress idea from) and doodlegraveyard here on tumblr (it's just the visor, but it's still something)

re: elf servants
I think generally there are servants in royal/noble households simply for practical reasons and they generally fall into 2 categories: specialised servants (think, stewards and messengers and scribes, masters of horses or kennels, that kind of thing) and servants who help with the upkeep of the household (cleaning, repairs, cooking and also the apprentices and assistants of specialised servants)
specialised servants are probably quite prestigious roles and fields of industry in their own right, and they are considered full members of a household, and probably are closely linked to the person they serve - it's as much a political and social statement to be Finwe's chief scribe as it is an economic one
but the second category are more associated with the house than the family living in it - for example, Finwe's palace in Tirion would function both as a home and a diplomatic and administrative centre, it would be impossible for him to rule and keep up with chores himself. But Fingolfin's personal home would probably not have any full-time servants - when there more people than usual to feed or house then professionals might be hired, but for the most part I imagine the day to day is done by the family (made possible by the fact elves sleep and eat less than humans)
IRL domestic service (at least in the 18th century) often functioned as a kind of prep stage for adult life (for women in particular, but gender is probably not as big a factor for elves) and I could definitely see this in Valinor - domestic servants being 80% elves between 50-100 who haven't chosen an apprenticeship or similar in another field who are earning extra money to set up their own households, getting experience outside of the family, meeting others in their own ae cohort, learning independence etc. It's a job that comes with the offer of room and board + the wages a king/prince/lord can provide. Not glamorous, but not terrible.
The other 20% is made up of professional servants - experienced elves who are genuinely like the work and are contracted workers as much as a builder or gardener might be. Some of them might be independent and others part of businesses set up by other elves who are really into cooking/cleaning etc.
In Beleriand the situation (for the exiles at least) is probably very different, though I think there would be attempts to adapt the system - but there aren't as many households that need servants and there aren't as many young elves.
#i confess i very much enjoy making ocs who are bg characters and servants are perfect for this#made my own post because i could not fit this in the tags LMAO#also the amount of labour needed to run a pre industrial household is HUGE#but elves generally get around this by having a population that is 90% adult and having magic#and having the time for anyone to become vastly skilled in their field in a lifetime#so things like food and clothing production is almost always communal and in the hands of elves who are REALLY into that specific area#the magic being relevant here because elf magic preserves - elven clothes won't wear out elf food doesn't go off etc#(or at least not as easily as human food/clothes)#i prefer to write elf societies that only visually mirror human ones - to an outsider it looks like a hierarchy of lord and servants#but the dynamic is very different#but that is just my preference#silm meta#not really a meta i just need to be able to find this post on my blog lol#long post#this is one of my fave topics hence the rambling

Actually wait everything about disco elysium and why harry and kim are Like That tm makes sense when you realise it's disabled solidarity.
In the setting (complicated to explain) having poor eye sight/glasses seems more stigmatized than for us. (The fact that kim is a racialized minority is a factor for some but not all of the comments made). Additionally Kim's vision is implied to be strongly impaired. bits ive gathered so far being he can still shoot with good accuracy, but seeing into buildings from outside, and dark places are basically a no go, and peoples faces may pose difficultly, (though that also could have been just anytime he has to clean his glasses hes extremely vulnerable, like you do when coming in from the cold). had a previous partner he relied to relay visual information to the point the partner was nicknamed "eyes"
so. im just saying. really makes me think about how well he adapts and treats a guy whose easily confused, has sporadic behaviour and moods, speaks unusually (lexical and vocal), and with chronic pain (physical impairment probably depends on stats?)
one of my favourite kim like, speaking quirks that i think is most obvious when he hands you a page of questions to ask a person is when he uses a word, and specifies it immediately (example there being "where is Lelystad, the place I mean?"). and even when not that exact style he feels like he does a lot to avoid making himself hard to understand
Im just thinking about accommodating for people you know.

idk how to say this right but i feel like people going through aaron bushnell's reddit comment history to try and figure out how Morally Pure™ he was and therefore if you're allowed to support his actions or not are. missing the point. in a lot of ways

Rue watched as Pikavee’s forehead spot lit up with a pink light, emitting psychic power.
A numbing sensation overtook her body from the neck down as this same power surrounded her, proceeding to slowly and gently lift her out onto the ledge opposite of Pikavee.
Rue: “I’m alright. Just a little bruised…”
For a moment, she had an invasive, morbid thought that completely betrayed the worry she saw on Pikavee’s face.
This tingling numbness that completely restrained her body–if the Twileon had a tighter grasp on her…
Of course, no such thing happened. She would be released upon being set on the ground without incident.
Rue: “Thank you…”
She wished she could more properly express her thanks, but she still appeared no less stressed about what happened earlier.

Knowing that, Pikavee looked guilty for not stepping in sooner.
Pikavee: “Oh… I-I thought you two were arguing.”

Rue: “So you heard all of that.”
Rue pointing it out made Pikavee feel even worse. A part of her realized in hindsight how she may have sounded upon saying that.
Pikavee: “I-I was listening in before. I’m sorry…”
Rue: “I-it’s… don’t worry about it.”
Rue’s eyes shifted down towards the ground. She basically looked grief-stricken; her ears were nearly flat against her head and her face was on the verge of openly expressing pain. Her tails flicked about behind her somewhat.
Pikavee’s concern grew as she watched. Today has been quite a few firsts for her, regarding seeing this side of Rue. She wanted to help, and began to offer exactly that.
It would be Rue that ended up asking first. She was clearly hesitant to do so–but she had no other recourse.
Rue: “I’m sorry to bother, but I’ll need your help catching up to them now. If anything happened to Fenninkou and that’s what I said to her last…”
Pikavee: “Y-yeah. I can help you find them.”
Rue sighed a little. Underneath her unease, she felt relief.
Rue: “Please be careful.”
Pikavee: “I-I won’t go too fast. They went this way, right…?”
Lief watched the following exchange take place, still eating that berry from before.
He didn’t move to join them, even as the duo took off in the general direction he had seen Fenninkou and Hazel ran in.
He shrugged, and commented out loud to himself.
