I kinda wanna fucking scream, so here, have a offline bullshit rant post.
So I’ve literally been trying to get my stupid fucking meds for over a MONTH now at this point, which I’m sure you can all see like, my mood is just wooooonderful these days. Not an excuse, casual reminder that yeah you do gotta take care of your own space so if my mood is dragging anyone down, I’m totes on board with blocking or unfollowing or y’know, burning me in effigy or something. Okay maybe not that last part. But still. You get it. And its not even that like, I need mood stabilizers per se, lol, so shout out to the armchair diagnosticians helpfully peppering my inbox still in their quest to oh so slickly be like ‘hey you’re a hot mess, take your hot messness away from tumblr’ like lol, didn’t ask.....nah, its mostly the perpetual lack of sleep and chronic pain issues that I have zero distraction from when my specific combo of meds isn’t able to let me actually weaponize my ADHD properly and power through that. Its a whole thing. Whatever. Just go with it.
POINT IS. So I’ve been trying to do this for over a month now, first obstacle was even just getting the money together for my refill appointment which is a whopping $150, because I have to pay out of pocket for mental health stuff these days because I had to switch my insurance over to something that paid out more heavily for physical benefits like my jaw surgery.....and because of the pandemic, and how many psychiatrists in my area and that I could actually reach aren’t taking new patients during the pandemic since most of them are conducting business virtually still, like, I have barely any resources for seeking out and trying new psychiatrist offices in the meanwhile that might charge less and I’m kinda stuck with the one I have because the last thing I can afford is to have like, NO psychiatrist at the moment, y’know?
So first I had to have that to even BOOK the appointment, which took forever because rent and food are a joy to accrue when you can barely manage to function as an actual employee of the capitalist machine ahfsklhflkahflakf, but so then I did that and like, got an appointment put on the books for August 19th. That was the soonest they could fit me in back when I paid them for my appointment about a week and a half ago. No, two weeks ago now? Eh, time is fake. ANYWAY, so that wasn’t gonna work for me, so basically the entirety of last week was devoted to constantly calling and trying to check in every other hour to see if they had any sooner cancellations I could take, because for whatever fucking reason, they just ‘don’t do’ a cancellation list wherein they call the next person on the list once they have a cancellation. Whatever.
So finally got a cancellation slot with a virtual appointment last Saturday night at random as fuck 8:40. Okay cool. Most of my refills are fairly simple, no real changes, but two are controlled substances so like, they have to do their due diligence and go through the proper protocols before giving me another prescription to one or whatever. Fine. Okay.
So I call the CVS they sent the prescription for my ADHD med to, the very next morning. One of the controlled substances, and the key med to like....making me functional instead of a rambling disjointed whirlibird of a thought emitter. Problem is, that medication is on back order. Won’t be in until Tuesday. Ugh. Okay, fine. Nothing I can do about it, because while the specific provider I spoke to in order to GET my refill prescriptions was taking an appointment the night before, the actual offices that schedule appointments and connect patients through to their providers was closed for the weekend, so I couldn’t even ask for them to send the scrip somewhere else.
SO. I go back to the CVS on Monday, hoping that maybe it came in early because not like I can do much else in the meanwhile. Course its not there, but oh well. I toy with the idea of calling to ask my provider to send the scrip to a different pharmacy (only had it sent to this one cuz its within walking distance to me, and since I can’t drive for medical reasons and Uber’s are expensive as fuck, just for errands, like, even though walking is sooooo not fun for me physically, like it is what it is). I decide against it because here’s another fun fact about this controlled substance....for security reasons, pharmacies don’t have to tell people over the phone if they have it in stock or not. Like, they won’t just say no we don’t have it in stock - I mean, they WILL say that, but that doesn’t actually mean anything because that’s what most of them say about that particular medication no matter whether or not they DO, and then just cite security protocols, so you have to actually GO to the store in question to ask them and even get a real answer to whether or not they even HAVE it in stock to FILL a prescription if its sent over. And no, the provider won’t just send scrips into several different pharmacies at once and just be whichever has it in stock can fill it - because again, controlled substance.
SO. I decide its not worth it to try getting the scrip sent over somewhere else, because I’d have to at least waste money on an Uber to even travel to various pharmacies and even check if they CAN fill it sooner than this one, when at least this place will have it in tomorrow. Its just one more day at this point.
Except then I go back on Tuesday. Oh sorry, don’t know why that other person told you we’d have our order in today, our shipments of that medication don’t come in until Wednesdays.
So I go back Wednesday. Success! They have it in stock. I go to pay, pulling out my goodRx coupon that was just printed out that morning, specifically citing the price for CVS at Target. The pharmacy manager says sorry, we don’t honor that coupon here for controlled substances like this one. I say: record scratch? He’s like yeah, that’s at the discretion of individual pharmacies, and we don’t honor that price for this specific medication, because we don’t want to attract customers only coming here to get that medication filled for that price. (This pharmacy is right at the edge of Inglewood and Culver City, for anyone who is familiar with those neighborhoods. The implications are exactly as they appear to be). So I’m like, what’s the regular generic price? He quotes me something that’s $180 more than the coupon, and thus $180 more than I have since I was focused totally on getting THIS amount ASAP, so I could get these meds so I could do more work and make more money. You see the train of thought. I’m like well that’s awesome, I don’t have anything close to that. Hey. Weird question. Why did nobody I talked to the past three days in a row that I’ve walked into this store in person to request this refill, like, mention this little tidbit about not honoring this coupon so instead of waiting for a backorder that would do me no good, I could have been spending that time having my prescription transferred somewhere that WOULD honor it?
He’s like, well did you mention to any of them that you’d be using a goodRx coupon for this particular medication? I said, yup. He said, you sure? I said well the specific process each time was I came in, I asked if this medication was in, they said what’s your name and date of birth, I provided that info, they said are you paying out of pocket, we don’t have valid insurance info for this on file for you, I said yup paying out of pocket with a goodRx coupon, they said *clickety clack of the keyboard* nope, sorry, we won’t have this medicine in until Tuesday, I mean Wednesday.
He’s like, well you must be misremembering or they would have told you at the time that we don’t take GoodRx coupons on this medication. I’m like, dude, it was you. It was literally you that I spoke to two of those three times, right here at the counter, in person. I’m gonna go ahead and trust my memory of those interactions and what was said there over yours since you don’t actually remember having talked to me two times in the last three days. He’s like, I gotta go help another customer. There is no other customer. I leave. Fun day for everyone.
So then I call around town to at least check which CVS will actually honor the coupon I have and the price that I can afford to pay it at. I don’t bother asking if they even have the medication in stock because I know its not guaranteed to be a CORRECT answer, but at least I can see who accepts this damn coupon. Also, reason I’m only trying big brand pharmacies instead of smaller, hole in the wall ones is because again, controlled substance, and I know from experience that the bigger brand pharmacies are at least more likely to have that med in stock whereas most smaller ones tend to run out very quickly as they usually only get enough for their existing/regular customers and a little extra.
I find a CVS five miles away - not walkable, gonna have to Uber. Call my psychiatrist office again to ask them to transfer the scrip, front office says they’ll send the request to my provider, who usually checks and fulfills such requests in 24-48 hours. I’m like okay cool, can I get a phone call to let me know when that happens, so at least I know when to check back to follow up if it hasn’t happened yet for whatever reason? They’re like no, the pharmacy will send you a text or call when they get the prescription sent over and you can take it from there with them. I’m like okay, but I’ve done this a bunch of times and know from experience the pharmacy does NOT in fact always call or text, so is there a certain time to follow up to inquire if the provider has already sent the scrip and the pharmacy SHOULD have it by now or if the delay is on the provider’s end? Front office is like yeah no. I’m like, swell.
So that was yesterday. I call the pharmacy (which I still don’t even know if they have the medication IN STOCK to fill the scrip even once they GET the scrip, and won’t until I can actually Uber out there, but one thing at a time at this point) at like 9 pm, they’re a 24 hour pharmacy, and they’re like nope, we got nothing (this is after spending an hour and a half on hold to even TALK to someone at the pharmacy). Called them again today at noon, still nada. Technically I have another 29 hours before the window in which the provider is supposed to send the refill scrip to this new location, before I can be like, okay so they still haven’t done it, can we send him a nudge or another request. The 24-48 hour window will only actually EXPIRE after their offices close on Friday meaning it’ll be Monday before I can even actually REACH someone again to ask them to send the scrip again, if the pharmacy hasn’t ACTUALLY gotten it by Friday night, and pessimistically, I’m not super inclined to assume that they will at this point.
I’m antsy, irritable, hungry because I don’t even know for SURE sure if the new pharmacy will ACTUALLY honor the coupon or say no sorry we don’t do that here either, whoever told you that was wrong, or if they’ll even actually have it in stock versus I’ll have to have it sent somewhere else AGAIN, so I have to pinch every penny possible in order to ensure I have the most money possible once my prescription IS filled in case the price is more than I expected again or in case I have to take Ubers there or further than I expected or basically....shit happens that I don’t expect. And this is what I’m basically spending all my time doing instead of working, because trying to get work done in this state is like....the harder I try to make it happen, the less it actually gets done, so I try and prioritize this and its roadblock after roadblock dragging out and wasting my time, and like yeah, I can post and shit while I’m doing this aka sitting on hold or walking around town trying to get shit filled because its fine if I ramble incoherently along the way in posts, but actual WORK work requires like....fucking coherency and succinctness and not having to stop and start every five minutes to call someone else, and oh yeah, being able to power through migraine spikes. And just.
I’m very annoyed about anything and everything to do with this shit. The hoops you have to jump through to even get the stuff that like....actualizes your hoop jumping ability, is just....*gnashing of teeth*
Anyway. So that’s my offline bullshit rant. Yay. The end.

David Farland’s Writing Tips—Writing the “Big” Book
When you look at novels carefully, you will notice that the bestselling books of all time are usually big “doorstoppers.” In each genre, we see this pattern.
Tumblr media
When the novel Dune was published, it was rejected by every publisher in the business until a company that sold engine books illustrating engine parts (so that you could easily order parts for repairs) decided to publish the novel. It became the bestselling science fiction novel of all time.
A Tale of Two Cities was rejected by so many publishers, the author finally published it himself with the help of an investor—and it became the bestselling mainstream book in English for the next 150 years.
With Harry Potter, the twelve largest publishers in the world rejected it because it was “too big” for Middle Grade readers. It has since gone on to sell 500 million copies and become the bestselling Middle Grade novel of all time.
Yet as authors, we are told over and over again to write skinnier novels. My editor at Tor used to try to cut every novel down to under 130,000 words. I like to write them a bit closer to 200,000.
I’ve heard several reasons why we should write skinny novels.
Publishers complain that paper costs are usually steep enough so that if you have too many pages, it’s hard to get customers to pay the higher price required for a big book. I recall one publisher complaining of a bestselling novel by Robert Jordan—“We’re selling millions of them, but we are wondering if we’re losing money on every book we sell, with today’s paper prices being so high.”
One editor pointed out that with fat books, there are only a couple of binderies in the US that can handle a book that holds over 400 pages, so they are tougher to make. Indeed, with mass-market paperbacks, we didn’t have glue that would bind 600-page books together until the mid-1980s.
Booksellers like Barnes & Noble often complained to publishers that fat books were unprofitable because they took up so much space on the racks. In fact, the US’s largest bookseller warned publishers that they would refuse to take fat books if the publishers kept printing them.
Yet people keep reading fat books. Indeed, I remember as a teen browsing through bookshelves at store, checking the spines, and rejecting many a highly lauded book just because they looked too darned thin for my tastes.
When I read, I used to think, I wanted to feast on a big book, and thin books left me feeling unsatisfied.
I used to suspect that the reason we like fat books had to do with their power to transport us. The most popular books tend to transport us to another time and another place. Writing about settings well takes a lot of space.
But creating vivid settings is only part of goal. We as readers want powerful stories told within those vivid settings. In other words, there was something about the plot of the story that made the longer books appealing to me.
Now I recognize that there are storytelling techniques that I like that require multiple storylines to be woven together at the same time. By keeping three or four storylines in play, an author can drive the reader into a deep state of hypnosis (the Theta state), where stories come to life more vividly than a lighter tale allows.
So, as writers we have a quandary. Do we write the huge fat books that readers love, or do we write the thin books that publishers and distributors want to stack deep on the shelves?
Or, is there a middle ground? When Tolkien wrote Lord of the Rings, he intentionally wrote a “long book.” I believe that he understood the effect that he was trying to achieve. In the 1950s, he taught a class at Oxford where he discussed the importance of telling stories from multiple narrators so that an author could create a “dreamlike state” as quickly as possible.
So when he wrote LOTR, he imagined it as one huge novel. He typed it up and sent it to his publisher in an orange crate because, back then, orange crates were made of wood and were sturdy enough to hold his 2000-page manuscript.
The publisher looked at it and declared it an “act of genius,” but worried that they’d lose money on it.
So they broke it into three pieces and sold it as a “trilogy". Suddenly, authors could write longer narratives so long as we kept them in a series.
That means that you can write a sprawling story, but you almost need to devise breaking points in the story every 130,000 words to make it easy and profitable for publishers.
Or, you can just plan to publish an e-book, where printing and binding don’t matter. A survey on Amazon a couple of years ago found that in the long run, even in e-books, it’s the long books that tend to sell the best.
318R Workshop
From 1999 to 2002, David Farland taught a popular science fiction and fantasy writing class at Brigham Young University. Some of his students from those classes went on and made millions. Brandon Sanderson took it twice, and has become one of the bestselling writers of our time. Dan Wells also took it, and became one of the bestselling writes of dark fantasy of the past three decades. Stephenie Meyer took it, and has sold over 100 million copies of her Twilight trilogy.
Now, just for the fun of it, Dave is going to teach the class online. His new workshop, "318R" will feature much of the same content, only it will be better, because as Dave put is, "I've learned a lot."
It will also have the same assignments that Dave used. Each participant will be asked to write either three short stories or three chapters to a novel for critique.
The class will be limited to 20 people, and will be taught live on Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 11:00 AM MST. We'll have a total of 30 classes. They'll be taped, so if you miss one, you can watch the tape, even repeat it if you like. Seriously, this will take seven months.
But wait, there is more! In the classes at BYU, many students came to "audit" the class. They weren't required to take the tests or turn in assignments, but were encouraged to participate in the classes, and since their work wasn't critiqued, they only paid half price. So, we'll have twenty students who will get the whole "318R experience," but others will be allowed to sit in, ask questions, learn, and have fun. We'll begin on Jan 2, just in time for the New Year, and we will finish up in August.
The price for taking the class will be $360. The price for auditing will be $180.
If you're interested in attending, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 318R in the subject header.

Look up! A dozen 'air taxi' flying cars are readying for takeoff
yahoo
Well, it may have been 56 years since “The Jetsons” was first on TV, but flying cars are finally about to become real.
The last few months have been filled with news of companies that unveiled, demonstrated, or released videos of their “air taxis,” as they’re often called. They’re basically giant-sized versions of drones — giant enough to carry a person, or two, or five.
Why now? Because all the necessary ingredients have aligned: Batteries with high enough energy density to carry these copters into the air; composite materials like carbon fiber light enough to work; avionics (aircraft software and electronics, developed for regular drones) cheap and reliable enough to adapt; and collision-avoidance systems advanced enough to keep these things from crashing.
The beauty of these personal copters is that since they’re all electric, they’re really quiet. They could fly at low altitude without becoming a nuisance to people on the ground. And, of course, they’re pollution-free: zero emissions.
All of these models can be autonomous. You plug in your destination, and the thing flies you there. Some have a joystick so that you can seize control of it if you want, and most can also be remote controlled.
These air taxis are built with redundancies of the major elements, so even if something goes wrong, you won’t drop out of the air. Many have low-altitude parachutes, too.
Now, don’t get all excited. You can’t buy a passenger drone yet — that moment will probably come in 2020 at the earliest, and they’ll cost hundreds of thousands apiece. Even then, nothing will happen in the U.S. until the Federal Aviation Administration comes up with rules to govern how these things use the airspace.
Oh, and by the way: Even with all the advances in batteries and materials, these things are still super limited in flight time. You’re lucky to get 20 minutes in the air.
But the trend is unmistakable: A lot of companies have working prototypes that are taking real people on real flights.
Who’s taking off first?
Here are some of the flying machines that have surfaced recently:
eHang 184
This Chinese drone maker has been working on the eHang air taxi for four years, and it’s fairly far along. Since the capsule holds only one person, it’s small — about the size of a car. The prototype has made over 1,000 tests in China, sometimes in high winds and at even at night.
youtube
Here are the specs:
10-mile range
80 mph top speed
Partnered with the Dubai government, who wants to develop air taxis to service its cities
Lands automatically in case of a malfunction
A two-passenger model is on the drawing board.
Volocopter
One of the highlights of CES 2018 was watching this gigantic, 18-rotor craft land on the stage during Intel’s keynote presentation. (Also at CES: The Volocopter’s first passenger was Intel’s CEO, Brian Krzanich.)
youtube
The details:
Designed and built in Germany, where it has approval to fly
Autonomous, joystick-operated, or remote controlled
Carries two passengers
18 rotors, parachute
70mph cruising, 17-mile range
Conducting test flights in Dubai
Estimated price $300,000
Passenger Drone
Weirdly enough, this California passenger-drone company is called Passenger Drone, and so is its product — the Passenger Drone. It carried its first passenger in November.
youtube
16 rotors on 8 spindles
Autonomous, joystick-operated, or remote controlled
Carries two passengers
Top speed: 45 mph
25 minutes per charge
20-minute flight time
Joby
This copter is the brainchild of JoeBen Bevirt, who made his fortune from selling — I kid you not —flexible-arm GorillaPod camera tripods. Now, with the help of $100 million in investments from Toyota, JetBlue Technology Ventures, and Intel, it’s preparing a sleek VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) copter that can carry four passengers and a pilot for 150 miles. (Full disclosure: My wife does PR work for JetBlue Tech Ventures.)
A couple of weeks ago, Joby invited a pair of Bloomberg reporters to witness an unmanned flight. They weren’t allowed to take pictures or even describe the thing, which is a bummer. But they watched it fly, remote controlled, for a 15-minute flight. “Bevirt says thousands of these sky cabs will one day shuttle people around cities, soaring above the conventional traffic below,” goes the article.
Vahana
This prototype, developed by European plane maker AirBus, has propellers that point upward for takeoff, like a helicopter’s, and then rotate forward, like a plane’s. The company flew it, unmanned, for the first time last month.
youtube
Details are sketchy — they don’t even have a website (only a blog) — but here’s what we know:
Single-passenger
“Productzable prototype” in 2020
Parachute
Illium
Unlike most air taxis, which are propeller planes, this one is an electric jet with a 180-mile range.
Here’s the video of its maiden (unmanned) flight:
youtube
The bullet points:
Holds two people
180-mile range
275 mph
Vertical take-off and landing
First manned flight planned for 2019; on-demand flights by 2025
Based in Germany
And the rest
Just about any deep-pocketed company who’s anyone is diving in. For example:
Uber Elevate, its self-driving air taxis, are nothing more than a white paper and a killer CGI video at this point. But clearly, they’re all in on the concept; they expect to launch the air-taxi service within a decade.
youtube
Boeing bought Aurora Flight Services, maker of VTOL planes, in hopes of exploring the air-taxi concept.
Larry Page, CEO of Alphabet, has spent $100 million to fund two electric-craft companies. There’s Zee.Aero, which has prototypes for two VTOL electric passenger planes, and Kitty Hawk, which is making a no-license-required personal hovercraft for use over water.
youtube
Zunum Aero is working on electric versions of traditional passenger jets (700-mile range).
Tumblr media
The Zunum Aero will be an all-electric jet.
We know this much about technology and disruptive change: Everything takes longer than we think, everything has unintended consequences, and everything’s subject to government regulation.
But with this much money and so many companies all chasing this dream, it seems likely that air taxis really will take off — at some point.

Should you drink low-calorie IPAs at your Super Bowl party?
Tumblr media
Staff photo By Nicolaus Czarnecki/MediaNews Group/Boston Herald via Getty Images
Advances in brewing have given us lite IPAs. Has science gone too far?
Michelob Ultra is the third-best selling beer in the United States. This is impressive, because it tastes like someone wrung out a bar rag soaked in better, tastier beer into a half-glass of flat seltzer.
The fact Michelob’s hard right turn from “1980s lager” to “beer-adjacent beverage for fitness enthusiasts” is a testament to our need for a social beer. At 4.2 percent alcohol and at a higher price point than your typical — uh — budget brews (Beer 30, Steel Reserve, anything made by Minha’s), no one is drinking Michelob Ultra to get community college wasted or put a hard day of coal mining behind them. But at 95 calories, it’s a beer you can have two or three of while more advanced drinkers hang out nearby without filling up or feeling like you’re out of the social circle.
In other words, it’s the perfect beer for awkward, small sips at a party where you only know a handful of people. Like, say, a Super Bowl party.
If you are interested in beers that actually taste like something, you can do better. In fact, plenty of craft brewers — some independent, others owned by giant brewing conglomerates — are betting on that.
Low-calorie IPAs are a thing now
There’s a massive market for light beer that doesn’t taste like light beer. Its steady rise has begun to intersect with the freight train of craft brewing. The rise of local breweries across our country has also created a rising tide of increasingly-hopped pale ales. While that trend has been stalled by the American advent of barrel-aged stouts, sours, and other adventurously-flavored brews, there’s no one type of beer that screams “CRAFT BREWERY” (often through a bearded face and ironic glasses) quite like a heavily-hopped India Pale Ale.
The problem with these beers is a high gravity double-shot that hits both on alcohol by volume and caloric content. Karben4’s Fantasy Factory is a delicious hoppy beer with quite possibly the best label in the game, but it clocks in at 6.3 percent ABV — 1.5x the volume of a Michelob Ultra — and somewhere between 180-190 calories. Elysian’s Space Dust is a juicy, bitter-ish beer that’s out of this world (I am so sorry — I don’t know what just happened) but it measures out a 8.2 percent and something like 250 calories.
Beers like these are a tough sell iff your plan is to fill out four hours of Super Bowl drinking while still either:
a) Driving home b) Working early Monday morning c) Speaking at a normal volume while explaining how Andy Reid seems like a pretty good dude
Fortunately, there are other options. Session IPAs have been a constant in recent years, providing the hoppy balance of a pale ale with a sub-5 percent alcohol content that makes them more appropriate for yard work or tailgates. That includes “crushable” drinks like Terrapin’s RecreationAle or Ale Asylum’s Demento. While those are less likely to make you blurt out stupid comments about Jimmy Garoppolo’s handsome face, they’ll still enact a relatively heavy toll of around 150 calories each.
There’s an in-between for that now. Breweries — typically larger craft brewers with stable financial backers — have been experimenting with light IPAs. These beverages clock in on the lower side when it comes to how fat and how drunk each beer will make you, while trying to retain the slightly bitter but still smooth hoppy-ness of their other brands. Harpoon has their Rec League brew (3.8percent, 120 calories). Lagunitas is home to the DayTime IPA (4 percent, 98 calories). Dogfish Head makes the Slightly Mighty (4 percent, 95 calories).
But, for my own experiment, I turned to Goose Island’s newest offering: So-Lo IPA, which measures in at 3 percent ABV and 98 calories.
So what’s it like?
I gave the low-cal IPA craze a Super Bowl test run in a similar situation. On the night of the 2020 Royal Rumble — one week before Super Bowl 54 — I set out with four cans of So-Lo to see how the low-cal, low-booze beer treated me at my own Sunday evening watch party.*
I started with one cold beer, swigged directly from the can. It’s a light beer, so it has the kind of hollow watery ring all light beers do, but there’s no mistaking the effort the hops have put in to differentiate itself from the pack. It’s great if you’re thirsty — but as I’d soon find out, there’s a limit to that.
The first beer went down without incident. I poured the following three into a one-liter stein to facilitate their egress down my throat.
Tumblr media
Taken out of the can, the beer pours a much prettier pint (or, in this case, liter-plus) than your typical light lager. The head lasts a decent amount of time and the brew smells great. All in all, it’s an inviting drink.
The good news: you can drink a lot of it because it’s a light beer with as much alcoholic gravity as a wine cooler. Unfortunately like many IPAs, the bitter wears on you. One of the reasons marzen beers work so well in liter steins is because is because the flavor stays crisp and malty. When you’re dealing with a lo-cal IPA instead, you’re going to run into a bit of fatigue from the taste.
Sure, you aren’t meant to pour out 36 ounces of them into a stein and go from there, but if the whole point of a light (lite?) IPA is that you can drink three or four without worrying about having to drive or ruining your diet, that’s something worth talking about. The flavor is strong enough that you’re more likely to get sick of drinking this mostly-faithful approximation of a true IPA than you would a tasteless light beer.
And there’s the rub! The flavor is good and the end result is a relatively guilt-free experience. You aren’t going to feel awful at any point after drinking a low-cal IPA — not from hangovers (I think I wound up more hydrated than when I started, if we’re being honest) and probably not from a beer gut standpoint. Given the choice, however, I’d rather ration out two full-strength beers over the course of a Super Bowl party than continually sip my way through four half measures.
Or, to put it in Michael Scott terms:
Tumblr media
I’m not here to beer shame anyone. Drink what you like. If Michelob Ultra is your thing, then by all means bring that six pack to your Super Bowl party.
But if you’re into mixing it up, you’ve got options. You can drink a medium amount of good beer, or a whole bunch of pretty good beer.
Have a nice Super Bowl. I love you.
*One person showed up. I blame this on the fact all my friends are both too sophisticated for battles royal and all unwilling to keep their young children awake past 8 p.m. and not the fact I am generally unlikable.

Best of all, you can pick up a four-pack for less than $60. If a light arrives with a defect or stops working, customer service is responsive, fast, and ready to provide assistance or a replacement if needed. This stylish light comes in black or matte white finish, so it will complement your home’s aesthetics instead of detracting from them. Pros Good-looking design Long-range motion detection LED or incandescent bulbs Cons Requires hardwired installation Too small to light large areas Things to Consider in a Motion Sensor Light Why Do I Want Motion Sensor Lights? Motion sensor lights provide security, convenience, and energy efficiency. There may be one main reason you’re looking for motion-activated lighting, or you may want to take advantage of all the benefits. Your primary reason will help you figure out the answers to other questions, like what type of bulb to get. For security, you might want a motion floodlight that’s meant to surprise an intruder and scare them off. On the other hand, a motion light that makes sure you don’t get tripped up on your way into the house can be less powerful. What Type of Lightbulb Should I Get? Many outdoor lights use LED to help save on electricity and minimize the chance of fire from a traditional, incandescent bulb that gets hot while in use. The downside is that LED lights are often dimmer, which can be a deal breaker if you want to illuminate a big area or startle trespassers. Incandescent light bulbs use more energy and need to be replaced more often, but they tend to be much brighter. Because you’re looking for motion sensor lighting, you should have less worry about incandescent lights heating up from being left on too long. How Much Area Do I Want to Illuminate? The amount of coverage provided by a motion light is determined by the motion sensor range and the brightness of the light bulbs. If you’re looking to light up a small area like the front porch, you may only need a motion sensor with a range of a few feet. But if you want to illuminate a larger area like an entire backyard, you might want a floodlight with a range of 70 feet or more. You can also power up the reach of your motion light with bright bulbs that use more lumens. Small areas can get by with as little as 42 lumens, while floodlights can use up to 3,400. What Type of Power Source Is Best? You can get motion sensor light fixtures that are hardwired, battery powered, or solar powered. The benefit of lights that use battery power or a solar panel is that you don’t have to install them near an electrical outlet. But solar panels need to be affixed where they’ll get enough sunlight for a full charge. The drawbacks with battery and solar power are that your security can be compromised due to a dead battery or a cloudy day. You also sacrifice brightness with those power sources, as the brightest lights tend to use hardwiring. If you do go with hardwired motion lights, be sure to plan ahead in case you need to run wires through walls or secure extension cords.   Can I Add Motion Sensor Lights to My Security System? You should be able to add motion sensor lights to an existing home security system. Contact your security provider to find out if motion sensor lights are available. If the company you use doesn’t offer motion lights, find out if the system is compatible with any third-party motion sensor lights. The benefit of having motion lights integrated into your security system is the convenience of mobile alerts when the lights are activated. Plus, if you have security cameras, the lights can help you get better footage in low-light situations. Check Out More Motion Sensor Options There are many situations where a motion-sensing light can come in handy, whether it’s as a nightlight or a convenient way to see what’s in the back of the closet. Can You Cook On The Smoke Setting On a Traeger?
The Traeger is a wood pellet grill but do you know that there are a lot of pellets are drawn from a side-mounted hopper into a central burn chamber by an auger, then ignited by a hot metal rod. Those mechanisms run on electricity, so you've got to plug it in. So if you want to cook on the smoke setting on a traeger then there is the best option for you to get the best option how to cook on the smoke setting on a Traeger. Now here is the Traeger smoker reviews and you can find out all of the system to smoke setting or all the advantage that you can get.
Tumblr media
You can use this smoke with most models of Traeger pellet grill, it is possible to set the grill to smoke. After some time on the smoke setting, you can then turn the temperature up to cook your food to the desired doneness Traeger grills create a very uniform heat around your food. Unlike gas and charcoal grills I've used in the past, this results in much less direct heat and more even cooking. Overall, this is a great thing. I have never overcooked or burned a meal on this grill.
When operating in Smoke mode, the Auger will cycle on for 15 seconds and off for 65 seconds. There is no temperature control with the “Smoke” setting. This timed cycle setting for Smoke is a factory pre-set recommended by Traeger Pellet Grills to develop a “Smoking” temperature of 150 to 180 degrees F. There are some pellet smokers use thicker metal, have better thermostats, air flow, racks, drip flow, etc  But ask any professional BBQ cooker who uses a pellet grill, and they'll tell you that the quality of your smoke really does come down to the pellets themselves.
If you have a Traeger Pellet Smoker the usage is fairly straight-forward and the temperature is as easy to set as the dial on your oven. ‘Set it and forget it’ as they would say on the infomercials. Starting the grill is as easy as opening the lid and selecting the ‘Smoke’ setting.
Since a Traeger grill cooks via a convection heating process, there are no flare-ups like on gas and charcoal grills. Add in our Set-It & Forget-It® ability for ease of use, and there's no doubt a Traeger is the best grill for smoking. The Z Grills is a fantastic, full-sized pellet smoker that competes directly with the Traeger Pro 22, but at a more affordable price. The hopper holds a good 20lbs of pellet - enough for 10-20 hours of smoking.
Traeger's smoke science technology makes cooking on a wood pellet grill easier, more accurate and better tasting. Traeger grills are built to give you the ultimate all-in-one outdoor cooking experience. The smoke setting is the feature that made the Traeger grill famous. So you can try to know how can it have to setting to get the exact flavor with smoke. To get a smokier flavor in your food, you will need to leave the Traeger set to smoke for a longer period of time. The amount of time you want your food to smoke will depend on what you are cooking. So you have to know proper setting about the smoke setting on a traeger.

cheap security cameras
If you are seeking to select a IP camera, the choice are usually mind-boggling. Follow this advice to aid you. There's a lot to take into consideration with regards to wireless security camera features, specs and also standard technology should go. A big difference from the web camera and a real home security camera is just one vital distinction. Web cams are often lumped within the home security camera type for the reason that most of them present many security measures, even so I might argue that they're fairly limited if your priority is going to be stability. Go ahead and take Zmodo Security Camera System as well as Ring Spotlight as examples. Either enable you to experience a streaming feed in your own mobile phone wherever you have web connection, however Foscam wouldn't warn you whenever a possible safety measures concern happens (for example whenever the built-in security alarms discover activity, and so on.), although the View provides you a huge amount of customizability so you can acquire signals everytime anything occurs, if that is what you want. It might seem to be a little big difference, though if you 're going the stand-alone DIY wireless security camera route, those warnings include the greatest to mimic real-time monitoring (not including checking streamming non-stop). Do-it-yourself regularly means that, as opposed to SimpliSafe and other companies, there is absolutely no qualified professional observation services in back of your home security camera. Meaning, for much better or even worse, it will likely be up to you to contact the cops when you notice anybody breaking in to your home.
youtube
If you can not have the right to get yourself a notice every single safety situation happens, you could possibly easily miss the one time period that any intruder steal that costly bit of jewelry. That does not mean that there is no room for ip camera as security supplements, but they're really most effective available to taking a look at in on a animal in daytime to make certain your own jumper has not yet changed into a chew up plaything.
Advantages of surveillance cameras
Stop Robbery
This is actually most important as well as the most noticeable benefit of putting in ip camera. Right after they are placed, you will be able to witness their influence on individuals quickly. Regardless of whether they are installed discreetly, you may start experiencing a feeling of security and safety, that is certainly invaluable. In no way permit any one or anything suspicious out of your sight with security cameras. And although is always that anyone stay clear of getting fake cameras, I cannot stress enough on the value of correcting real surveillance cameras as the good reliability measure. Criminals are usually smart and dummy ip camera show by themselves away, so there’s truly pointless of having these items.
Obtain The evidence
Adding video cameras established in tactical sites is beneficial if you want to look at actions along with thoughts of people as well as during an occasion. Modern-day video cameras aren't only equipped with good quality video clip functionality, but audio at the same time. The very clear images in conjunction with faultless sounds indicates they are more efficient than ever before in recording a number of situations. This is particularly beneficial when dealing with a legal scenario, during which the eye witness may have neglected the specific important details or simply may be providing by having an accurate account of exactly what really transpired. With a wireless security camera, the authorized authorities can see the number of situations while they really unfolded. Simply How Much Would You Spend on your Security Camera?
Tumblr media
Nowadays, surveillance products can be purchased in numerous models and prices to supply a feeling of security and safety with a lots of home-owners. The common cost of a security system plus installment is normally $1,100. With the variants with kinds and quality of security camera systems, installing the device commonly spans between $700 and $2,000. Hard-wired devices are cheaper regarding components yet more for setting up, within $140-$210 per cam, as opposed to the wireless network alternatives. The excellent news: setting up any sort of device could save costs for home owners insurance. There's two choices to make: wire less or hard-wired together with Internet protocol or Closed-circuit television. Having said that, a number of other things give rise to the very last set up. A good number of systems now have several video cameras along with either cloud (NVR) or on-site (DVR) storage space. Occasionally they'll contain movements detectors, advanced screen resolution, specialist following, and dark vision features. Enhanced selections result in higher sophistication, and increasing price ranges. Eventually, your requirements and tastes must go to determine a final expenses. Over the years, home security camera price tags have got dropped, which make them a very affordable requirement. A normal security system design and installation will definitely cost just about $1500. But the value with regard to professional setting up can differ tremendously dependent on product model and also number of video cameras. Together with equipment fees, each individual camera is going to range between $75 to $190 regarding professional installment. A device designed for Build-it-yourself installation will set you back merely time, if you possess the equipment. Whether you result in planning all the Do it yourself road and / or choosing a expert, an original appointment can assist you recognize a person's exact expectations based on the demands in your home. An assessment is generally 100 % free. The size and style and type is dependent upon lots of variables.
Hard-wired Product
Though the setting up runs greater than wifi averaging just about $150 to $180 per camera, the elements involving hard wired equipment tend to be more affordable. Considering that holes will be drilled, wiring put on, as well as conduit implemented, choosing a contractor is frequently recommended. Following up front investment, the only real downside is fixed locations. The pros may well surpass the disadvantages. Hard-wired systems can not be hacked from another location, crammed, and get electricity inbuilt ? often together with battery power back ups intended for electrical power black outs.
Wifi Product
Wifi models are easy to install, causing them to the choice intended for Do it yourself projects. A DIY installation is going to charge you $0 along with professional work only about $125 for each security camera. They are also easy to move and almost always offer you remote entry. Disadvantages include no direct power and has to be added in your residence's wifi reach to operate effectively. They frequently possess reduced resolution compared to hard-wired alternatives and could be broken into from another location. Wireless network equipment are likewise be subject to transmission disturbance.

Due to the time delay yesterday which we are used to when a maintenance like this starts, they sent their players a free 10 hearts and another 5 free hearts as an apology. And a few hours from that, they sent a free 30 diamonds to everyone to made it clear about the % bonuses of the limited (new) characters (Teru and Reigen) when they are used and stayed in the party
Tumblr media
Well anyway, let’s get down to those special characters and their bonuses they give when they’re around the party:And also as their skill level rises, their special effects also become stronger for these following:
Baseball player Mob - 100% (double time)- Character bonus has raised to 150%
Baseball player Reigen - 100% (double time) -  Character bonus has raised to 150%
Baseball player Teru - 50% (half time) -  Character bonus has raised to 75%
Baseball Dimple - 50% (half time) -  Character bonus has raised to 75%
150 (whole) x .50 = 75 (half)
Placing a limited (special) character in the event will attached a bonus to the event points after the game. For example, I just got Baseball player Teru recently. Since he is one of the special limited characters that give bonuses, this what it looks like
Tumblr media
750 (current points) - 321 (added points) = 429 (your real points)
429 x .75 (character bonus %) = 321.75 discounted points
321.75 - .75 (to make it suffice) = 321 the extra points added to your real points
*To add: Experience values are entered for all the characters that participated too in this event. It’s your chance to train them if they haven’t been raised yet! And also during this period, all the skill performances of these limited 5 characters will be up. For front characters, skill can be used quickly for 10 blocks from normal time. After the event ends, the effect returns.
Tumblr media
As you can see, Baseball player Ritsu isn’t mentioned from those following so that means he could be a character reward for the next (2nd ranking) since the top rewards today in this first half are a new booster Matsutake (this could be a skill boost) and Luxury dumbbell for those players who will be placed within 1000 points only. The accumulated points reward in this event is Takoyaki (by 100,000).
So there, keep on playing until you ascended your place to the top rank. Good luck to all!

Wirecutter's best deals: Save $30 on an NVIDIA Shield TV
This post was done in partnership with Wirecutter, reviews for the real world. When readers choose to buy Wirecutter's independently chosen editorial picks, it may earn affiliate commissions that support its work. Read their continuously updated list of deals here.
Amazon Fire HD 8
Street Price: $80; Deal Price: $50
This deal matches the previous low price we've seen for our budget pick Android tablet. We only just saw this $50 low price during Black Friday sales, so this is a great time to pick up this tablet at a discount. With the holidays coming, this is a nice option while it lasts.
The Amazon Fire HD 8 is our budget pick in our guide to the best Android tablets. Ryan Whitwam wrote, "If you want a cheap tablet for watching videos, reading, or browsing the Web, Amazon's Fire HD 8 tablet is great. It doesn't have access to the Google Play Store or any of Google's apps, but it costs just $80 and makes it easy to access Amazon content (especially for Prime members). Amazon's Fire OS (based on Android) runs very well on the tablet, and the Fire HD 8 offers better battery life than the ZenPad or Tab S3. The display is only 1280×800, but that's fine for a budget media tablet. The Fire HD 8 also has more-extensive parental controls than other tablets, making it a great family device. The selection of apps in Amazon's app store is small compared with what you can get via Google Play, but it includes most popular non-Google apps."
Puro BT2200 Kids Headphones
Street Price: $100; Deal Price: $75 w/ code HOLLY25!
If you're in the market for headphones for your young one, this is a great opportunity to pick some up at the best price we've seen. When you use code HOLLY25! in cart, it drops the price of the Puro BT2200 headphones from their normal price of $100 down to $75. This code deal beats the $80 pricing that we've seen on and off since the run-up to Black Friday, can be applied to any of the 4 available colors, and can be applied to multiple sets of headphones. The code is valid thru 12/21.
The Puro BT2200 Kids Headphones are our top pick in our guide to the best kids headphones. Lauren Dragan and Brent Butterworth wrote, "The Puro BT2200 is our pick because not only do these headphones remain within safe listening levels when used properly, but they were also the top pick of all our kid panelists, which means your little ones will be more likely to use them. The Bluetooth wireless connection—done correctly here—means that the Puro pair will play at the correct levels, whatever source the child uses it with. The wireless design is also handy for avoiding tangles, a favorite feature of our big-kid panelists. The size and weight fit kids from 2½ to 11 years comfortably, so you can buy these headphones once and they'll grow with your child, and they are sturdy enough that they should last a long time, too."
Breville Boss To Go Personal Blender
Street Price: $160; Deal Price: $128
Down to $128, this price matches a few previous deals we've posted on the Breville Boss To Go, but is still the lowest price we've seen in the last 6 months. Street price on this personal blender tends to sit between $150 and $160. Although we do see drops to $128 with some frequency, the price usually doesn't stay that low for more than a few days.
The Breville Boss To Go is the upgrade pick in our guide to the best personal blender. Lesley Stockton wrote, "The Breville Boss To Go offers smoother blending, sleeker design, and a better travel lid than our top pick. The Boss To Go blended kale the finest, and berry seeds were the smallest of all our picks. The Breville blends thick mixtures easily without straining. The stainless steel housing and sleeker design will look good on your counter top, and the travel lid has the largest opening of all the blenders we tested for easier drinking."
Nvidia Shield Streaming Media Player with Remote
Street Price: $180; Deal Price: $150
If you're looking for a streaming device that supports 4K with HDR and is capable of playing local media via USB, the Nvidia Shield (2017) is a nice option that comes at a bit of a premium. Right now there's a drop that lessens that cost a bit. This sale sees this version of the Shield with remote (but without gaming controller) drop in-cart from its usual price of $180 down to $150, beating the previous low we've seen for this iteration. We've posted a deal for the player with remote and controller for $170, a better deal for gaming enthusiasts, but this is still a great price.
The Nvidia Shield TV is our local media streaming pick in our guide to the best media streaming devices. Chris Heinonen wrote, "If you want to play back lots of local media directly from a USB hard drive or thumb drive, the Nvidia Shield supports almost any file format and serves as a full Android TV streamer, which gives it access to a large and quickly growing selection of streaming apps. It also supports 4K playback, including HDR, from most streaming services that offer it."
Because great deals don't just happen on Thursday, sign up for our daily deals email and we'll send you the best deals we find every weekday. Also, deals change all the time, and some of these may have expired. To see an updated list of current deals, please go to thewirecutter.com.
