Okay I'm trying to be chill about the fact my computers busted and I can't edit sooo here's my favorite horror films I watched in 2023!! So far, at least, I'll update if I find some more great ones in the next month. These are in no particular order.
Talk To Me (2023) LOVED IT. I was genuinely really really stressed while watching it. Honestly give me a character I like and put them through the ringer and I will be invested. I REALLY wanted Riley to make it. I know some people don't like the end but I did. It's a very existential and depressing ending but I thought it was fitting.
Sissy (2022) This is a super super underrated movie. Barely any discussion of it all online. I thought it was incredible; it perfectly nailed what it feels like to be in a social situation you know you don't belong in. I felt called out several times. Cecilia is a really fascinating character too, and I loved the social media aspect.
Creep 2 (2017) I couldn't believe how into this movie I was. It's basically just two really weird characters manipulating each other (with one being way way way more successful than the other) and it's so wild to watch. I liked the first Creep but the relationship here was so fascinating. I almost feel like this movie would have been better as a standalone bc we as the audience know that Aaron is a serial killer. It would be fascinating to be like Sara and not know for sure. Either way though, I loved it, I hope they make a third one.
Terrifier 2 (2022) Dude I LOVED this movie!! Controversial opinion maybe but I thought it was fantastic. Sienna is such an amazing character, Art the Clown was on his A game. I weirdly resonated with the family stuff (i got emotional at points) The special effects were great. I know it has a reputation. And it has earned that reputation. I have found no one I can comfortably show this movie to that I trust isn't going to be horribly traumatized. Which sucks bc when I saw this in theaters I got like. Sexually harassed. And I dont want it to happen when I see the third one. I wish I had a buddy I could take. But regardless every time I watch it I have a blast, and I really wanna make a video discussing this series soon bc I have so many thoughts!!
Halloween (1978) Yeah everyone was right this movie is awesome. I'm totally going to add it to my halloween watchlist every year.
Candyman (1993) Yeah again it's really really good, everyone was right lol. Really dragging my feet on the remake bc honestly this movie is basically perfect.
Cube (1997) I always thought I'd like Cube. And I did. It's really weird and psychological and cool. I watched it like 11 months ago so I don't feel like I have a lot to say right now, but I just remember how much I was invested while watching it and how much I gushed about it after I finished.
Deadstream (2022) Honestly this was most fun I had with a movie all year. I was dying laughing the entire time. I've watched it three times and I sent the opening scene to everyone I know. It's just a very funny and very spot on parody of YouTubers and I love it
Fresh (2022) I don't love the abrupt ending but the rest is basically perfect. The levels of performance during the dinner scene OH MY GOD. And it's a really fun and disturbing exploration of how terrible dating is and I appreciate that a lot.
Hereditary (2015) This movie hurt the entire time and I loved it. Toni Collette's performance is the best I have ever seen, I am actually furious she wasn't nominated. Her screams man, they are haunting. Also really realistic dream dialogue I pegged right away it was a dream bc that's exactly how people talk in my dreams. This is a movie with a lot of layers and something about it resonated with me, especially after the terrible terrible year I had.
Midsommar (2019) I vibed with this one hardcore. I think its just weirdly cathartic to see someone in a bad social situation get accepted while the person who put them in that situation gets rejected. Again because of the terrible year I had. But also its bad that that happens! Like its creepy how easy it is to be taken in by a cult. I also didn't feel the length at all I was very very invested the whole time. My friend Emily absolutely hates this movie though lol
Trick R Treat (2007): I didn't find it scary at all. But I vibed with it. It just FELT like Halloween, and some of the stories really really worked for me. Particularly the werewolf one and the one with the zombie kids.
VHS (2012): This is entirely because of the Amateur Night and 10/31/98 segments. I love those segments to death, I've watched them over and over. I still haven't watched Siren (the full length Amateur Night adaption) but I am so psyched they kept the same actress. She was an absolute star I'm planning on watching it entirely for her.
It Follows (2014) I know I can't keep saying I vibed with these movies but I did. I love the dreamlike quality, the ambiguity, the idea behind the monster is actually one of the most terrifying things I can imagine. Even if you get rid of it there's a chance it'll come back to you so you're never safe. Certain sequences were really really cool. Also one of the best jumpscares of all time in this. Like I don't even like jumpscares, they never get me, but this one did! Also I adore the opening sequence and how it's complete nonsense until you rewatch it and realize what's happening.
Infinity Pool (2023) I went in completely 100% blind. It was a wild ride that's for sure. I said "oh fuck me" full volume at one point if that tells you anything. Honestly I have nothing to say about the plot but the feelings this movie evoked in me were intense. Really good movie for someone who secretly hates themselves and is scared that everyone around them does too, I guess, because it captures that feeling perfectly.

i have no fucking clue how "threatening your lover with a knife" fits into intimate prompts for slow burn relationship, but it definitely does sound like frostiron lol
"Loki, don't." Tony raised his arm with the charged repulsor, aiming at Loki. His heart was beating fast, too fast almost for his arc reactor to get him through this experience.
There was something to be said about seeing your— what, exactly? Lover of a day, maybe, yes— stroll into the Science Building, people cowering and running away in fear, and threatening one with a knife.
"Don't stand in my way, Anthony." Loki’s voice was unwavering, his eyebrows pinched. "You know why I need to do this."
They had yelled at each other, ugly and horribly as Loki had learned of the horrible news and that just when Loki had... become an honourable member of the Team.
Tony smiled bitterly. The was truth to Loki's words, his wish for revenge relatable but not if it cost that much. And Tony wouldn't be able to go to bed soundly every night would he let Loki pass.
"I know that she was your mother, Loki—"
"Then you know why I must do this—"
Tony shook his head. "I can't let you kill an innocent woman, I can't. Even if she's the reason why your mother is dead—"
Loki snarled. Ugly, loud and pressed forward, the blade cold against Tony's throat. He could feel it nicking him just slightly, trembling briefly before Loki took control of it again.
"If you stand in my way—" The composure in Loki's face crumbled, a vulnerable sheen appeared in his eyes instead, desperate to do something which would help him to alleviate the pain he was feeling.
"I don't want to but I will hurt you to get to her," Loki threatened in a whisper. "Only because I shared your bed does that not mean you are excempt from—"
"From what? Your rage? Your hurt?" Tony bit on his lips, lying a hand against Loki's shoulder pad. He was shaking, despite what he wanted to tell Tony, Loki was not as calm and confident as he wanted everyone to see.
"I know," Tony added as he tried to lean back just so the blade wasn't going to dig deeper into his skin. There was a tomorrow he would love to see—
"And yet, you stand here and don't step aside." There was a note of finality in Loki's voice. "You would deny me my revenge?"
"Between you and my conscience? I'd prefer not to add to my pile of nightmares." He found Loki’s eyes, his hand slowly moving to the side to touch him at the neck like he often saw Thor doing it to him before.
"Your mum knew what she was doing when she protected Jane. Don't you think that by going after her, you undo her sacrifice?" Tony squeezed the cold porcelain skin, strands of hair trapped in between his fingers. It was his anchor as he feared that Loki was going to slit his throat any second.
He hoped that Jane was fleeing or had informed Thor of what was going on. Not that he'd strike down Loki, Tony didn't want to lose Loki like that not when there was still a sliver of hope but to take her away from this place.
"You know better better than that, Loki," Tony implored and let the repulsor die out.
With hold breath, he waited for his almost inevitable fate.
A broken sob told him otherwise. The blade dropped to the ground with a loud clang.
"She's dead—" Loki sobbed, an arm around his middle as if he couldn't stand upright anymore otherwise.
"I know," Tony gently told him, pulling the Trickster in close. "I know."

Hiraeth [Part 27]
Bucky Barnes X OC (Amelia Stone)
Hiraeth: (n.) “longing or deep yearning for a place, time, feeling or person long gone; or that never was.”
Summary: Things have changed for those who opposed the Sokovian accords. They spend a Christmas together.
*very tiny chapter I wrote to make ground for more fluff*
Tumblr media
She didn't know how long it would take to get used to the mildew of their new apartment. It was a fairly decent establishment, but the rain always dampened the wall; that combined with the fact that the landlord was always doing weed.
She was still struggling a lot with her pain, some days more than others. Now that she had also left the facility, there was no way to keep a close eye on the wound. It used to burn every once in while, particularly when she had those recurring nightmares, now vivid, of being tortured, at the hands of HYDRA, and Bucky. She could remember how she got some of her cuts, that had left a mark on her skin. She couldn't really remember how she hurt her chest.
Maybe it was why Bucky was avoiding her. Somewhere in his mind, he was relating Tony's anger to her forgiveness, doubting if her forgiveness would turn on him the moment he made another mistake. It made him very aware of everyone's presence, and he seemed keen to stay in the shadows, and not interact with them so much. If she hadn't known better, she would have thought he was like that. Brooding, proud, antisocial and a recluse.
Christmas arrived, it was bittersweet, because the team celebrated it together, at least once during the 25 days. To keep up with the festivities, they all decided to have a Secret Santa. It was a beautiful evening on the 24th. The warmth was just right, it made the house feel like a safe haven from the bone-chilling winter outside. The world had gone to a deep slumber under the blanket of fresh snow. The smell of cinnamon and apple had muffled that of the mildew she always complained about. Steve was telling stories of his childhood; Sam was astonished that Steve was indeed a grandpa. Natasha was drinking wine, Bucky too, sitting in the chair and smiling as Steve recounted shared memories.
Ellie had just left the room a minute earlier, and came back holding her phone. Steve and Natasha were to notice.
"Ellie", Steve began, "Come on. Not today. It's Christmas."
"Just one minute Steve."
"He said he'll come, so he will. And if he doesn't, well.. we see that later."
The cryptic nature of their conversation caught Bucky's attention, whose eyes suddenly landed on Ellie and her phone.
"True", she replied, "Ugh....  I am just so nervous."
"Didn't you set the time with him?", Sam asked too.
"Well, he said around Christmas, that too in a mall or something", she replied. "He apparently has a thing for festivities and lights." Ellie closed her phone and put it away.
"Are you sure you want to meet him?", Sam asked, "I mean, you've not really done this kinda stuff before."
"It's ok. Exploring new horizons", she replied. "The world has changed."
"And yet somehow it's still the same", Natasha continued. She put her glass away and straightened the ruffles of her beautiful green dress. "So, let's do the gift thing and get this over with."
Ellie put her phone away and settled on the beanbag next to the fireplace. The gifts were brought and they began to unwrap them.
It began with Steve. It was a small rectangular box, no longer than his hand, wrapped in blue and silver paper, with a red bow on it. He chuckled at the color scheme and unwrapped it. Silence followed.
"Geez", he could manage to say, but his eyes were wide.
"What is it?", Natasha asked.
"It's a Swiss army knife", he said, tracing the sides with his finger. "1939. Belonged to one of my friends in the regiment."
They all looked at the name carved on the side of the knife. "L. R. Anthony."
"We shared a tent during one of our missions. Really, a gem of a man. Had a wife, Margie and.. 4 children I think. A pair of girls and boys. Kentucky.. Man..." Ellie took a moment to steal a glance at Bucky who, as usual, felt indecipherable.
There was silence in the room. All they could hear was the fire.
Sam opened his gift and found paper inside.
"What's this?", he read the card inside. It had two tickets to the quarter finals of a football match. "WHO BALLIN?" he announced, smiling enthusiastically.
Natasha was next to open her gift. Someone had gifted her tickets to Disneyland and an invitation to a fancy restaurant. She could definitely use a break. They all could.
Ellie had a small packet in her hand, looked like a letter envelope. She opened the flaps and two things. One was a really delicate chain, made of silver probably. It had the most delicate pendant on it, a rose. There was one more thing, a small plastic bag, with small bead-like things.
"Are these seeds?", she asked, examining them closely. The paper at the bottom of the box said so. It was geranium and carnation seeds. She looked so happy, always having an interest in horticulture. Her silence though, made everyone curious.
“Something wrong?”
"No. I just... I love it!", she said, smiling faintly.
Bucky was last, awkwardly fidgeting with the box in his hand, it was a brown box, wrapped in a plain black string with a tiny plastic pine cone in place of a bow. He opened the box carefully and found two things inside, a nice woolen sweater and an empty journal. On top lay a note which said, "To new memories..."
Announcing that they were going to be late for dinner, Natasha put the gifts away. While everyone was putting their things away, Bucky was wearing the warm brown sweater he found in his gift.
“It’s a perfect fit”, Steve commented, passing him by to get the keys.
“It is”, Bucky replied, making final adjustments to the hem. He had been estranged for so long, the feeling of a home made him feel awkward. If he could, he would have tried to liken this Christmas to all of his past ones, good ones, but memory wouldn’t serve him that well. It was outside the house his mind was trapped in, and the guard was too strong.
Ellie stood right next to him, looking at herself in the giant hallway mirror. She was wearing a lovely black dress, with a thigh high slit and perfect stockings to match. Her hair were open and flowing beautifully down.
“Can you help me?”, she asked, awkwardly, holding the chain in her hand. “I might as well wear this too.”
“It matches..”
Bucky clipped the chain, the tiny gold rose pendant twinkling under the light. It looked perfect. She looked at his sweater and smiled.
“Looks nice”, she said, walking away.
“Yes it does”, he replied, in a low voice, looking at himself again, “Thanks Amy.”
----------------------------
Sorry it got hella long. I wanted to make some sense of the timeline and also, Bucky related fluff angst had to be there lol. Also... Is the series too long? Should I be cutting it short? I just like details a little too much.
