i wish there were more “girly” gear options. most of the stuff we have now is super androgynous and sporty leaning, and the “girly” stuff we do have is usually amiibo locked. i just want to dress my silly character up in cute clothes

DRIZZLE SEASON 2023
youtube
Tumblr media
I'm going to do a bit of analysis this time on things I found interesting!
First of all, we'll be getting an Anniversary Splatfest - Who would be the Best leader of Deep Cut? Shiver, Frye, or Big Man? (Team Frye rise up and get our girl her win!)
Then along with some badges and banners (as well as double chances of 10x battles), we'll be getting the Deep Cut Amiibos in November! Can't wait for my wallet to cry!
Last of the Twitter updates is that we're getting a Big Run literally the day the new season drops. No news on where or if there's a new King yet!
Now onto the trailer!
Tumblr media
First off, more new music! From what we hear in the trailer I like it! Not nearly as much as Yoko and The Gold Bazookas, but it's definitely Splatoony!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mixing up the order a bit, we have two NEW maps! Pretty sure everyone thought Crableg Capital was Saltspray on the first few seconds, but it appears to be a mid city construction site (perhaps it will come back completed in Splatoon 4 like Hammerhead?) And the other new map is Shipshape Cargo Co., which seems to be a cargo ship in the middle of the artic (how are these kids wearing tees and sandals here without freezing?) I'm no map expert, so I'll leave the good map/bad map debate to more experienced players, but I really like the look of these!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next are the two new weapons - Dread Wringer and Heavy Edit Splatling! Dread Wringer seems to be a laundry or mop bucket with a wringer attachment that launches two shots per swing. And the Heavy Edit looks like it's a mix between a highlighter and a correction fluid bottle, but I could be mistaken. It seems to have nearly perfect accuracy.
Tumblr media
The Gold Dynamo is finally here! And it got clowned on the entire trailer. So it's back but at what cost?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next up is a cool new feature! The ability to adjust the position of your hat and the size of your shirt (possibly more?) This personally is my favorite feature shown so far, since I ADORE the fashion in this game (pwease give us more gear that just catalog based Nintendo I am BEGGING you)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next up, Salmon Run! We get the returning stage Salmonid Smokeyard, which I have never played on, so hopefully it's not as horrible as Marooners! And new gloopsuits! With patterns! Fancy! And seeing as the last time we got new suits we got returning Splat 2 Salmon Run gear, that probably means we'll be getting more of those in the shop (I still have two peices I need to get 😭)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
New Tableturf cards which reveals the new weapon kits we're getting - Bloblobber, Tristringer, Ballpoint, Brella, Gootuber, Sloshing Machine, Gold Dynamo and Octobrush(plus the two new weapons!) Also now have cards for the Salmon Kings in the illustrated style! I don't think any other salmon cards are illustrated except Lil' Buddy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And lastly, new challenges! A previously leaked by Nintendo themselves mode with a modded Rainmaker that shoots 3 shots, a fast swimming mode and another special based one, this time with Inkjet!
Currently very excited for this season! Let me know what you all think!

Hypothetical Side Order Update Hopes/Rambles
I know it may not be super super likely but I really do hope there are some updates to Side Order eventually.
I wanna talk about some things I would like to see:
☆ New Cipher shop items! Especially the banners and especially especially gear, since those are the two smallest sections.
Today's Find will still be unlocked for people who unlocked it by now, but my idea for those who haven't: the new things added after launch will only be unlocked if you bought out all of the launch items in that section. Cipher's shop is formatted very similarly to the Grizzco shop, so this could kind of be Cipher's equivalent of how some Grizzco items are greyed out until you spend a certain number of each scale. Buying out the launch items in every section will unlock Today's Find as well as all items added in any hypothetical update(s). Update items will of course be immediately unlocked for those of us who already bought all launch items.
Ideas for what new items they could add? ● Pixels of characters that may or may not even have palettes: Acht, Judd, Grizz, Cipher, etc?
● The order weapon pattern banner that was accidentally shown when they showed off the CoroCoro banner. People pointed out, based on its placement and the lack of an Acht banner, that the weapons banner was most likely unfortunately just an early-development banner, scrapped in favor of making the Acht one. BUT if they still have the file(s) for it I don't see why they couldn't just plop it into Cipher's shop in an update.
● Outfits of any Side Order character(s) that do not get an amiibo, or all Side Order character outfits if it turns out the amiibo don't just give the figure's outfit.
Dataminers found two upcoming amiibo, and animations found in Side Order seemingly suggest one is Marina. The other is not identified afaik. I don't think they would make an Eight amiibo unless there actually ends up being more than two, I feel like they would wanna make both the masc and fem promo designs like with OE. My theories: • Marina + Pearl Drone • Marina + normal Pearl • Marina + Acht • Maybe, maayyybe, Marina + only fem Eight. (Masc Eight wasn't really shown a whole ton in promo stuff anyway afaik, sooo...) I'm kind of hoping for Marina + Acht, because as much as I'd love for another Pearl + Marina pair to exist... an Acht figure would just be so cool. I'd probably never be able to get ahold of it anyway because I've been having a ton of trouble getting amiibo figures, but eh.
If the other amiibo is a Pearl, I think you would get Pearl's Side Order outfit from her amiibo regardless of whether the figure is normal her or Drone her. Whatever the amiibos are or what they give, the outfits of remaining Side Order characters, or all of their outfits if the amiibos give something totally unique, should go in Cipher's shop. That could/should include both the masc and fem Eight outfits from OE, if they don't get SdOdr amiibos, or if their SdOdr amiibos give something else.
● The Chaos/Order news gear from Splat2. Or at least just the Order ones.
● Any and all other gear you would get as rewards from OE. The gold takoyaki pick, Neo Octoling gear, etc etc etc.
● Locker figurines of the little NPCs outside, the jelly things and the little shrimp ladies etc.
● Maybe figurines of the bosses as well.
☆ Jelleton badges! Full-color, silver, then gold, just like Salmon Run. The app already tracks your kill counts so why not?
For the more common ones like Languendo, Andante, Lento, the requirements for their badges could be incredibly high just for the fact that they're so common that you can rack up tons and tons and tons of them relatively quickly (I'm personally at over 55k Andantes, for instance, and I haven't even played much since mid-March.) Less common or more incendental enemies like Alla Mambos, Portals (I mean why not count these since the app counts em), etc, can have smaller requirements, maybe on par with Boss Salmonid badges.
Bosses (Rondo, Marciale, Canon, Overlorder) can just be the same numbers as King Salmonid badges I feel like.
I would love a Marina Agitando badge in this manner, however her count does not go beyond x1 even if you re-fight her through memories, which makes perfect sense since only the first fight was even real. Maybe they could add one as a "Cleared the Initial Spire" badge...?
And an idea I had is maybe you could have both Overlorder and Smollusk badges. These both have silver and gold versions and you get both Overlorder and Smollusk of each color simultaneously upon meeting the milestones, kinda like the Deep Cut badges (even though Deep Cut doesn't have silvers, but you know what I mean).
☆ More weapons! Lore-wise clearing every existing weapon we have at the moment means that the problem with the simulation should be fixed I think, meaning no other souls could be pulled in and become palettes...? BUT we do still keep climbing the Spire afterwards if we want, just for the hell of it and so Smollusk isn't alone.
So I think maybe it could fit lore-wise if Marina just came up with some "fake"/"dummy" Palettes, i.e. Palettes not linked to any soul, just to play around with for funsies. Experimental builds are fun to play with so having some of the weapons that have unique gimmicks could be really exciting.
Some ideas:
Explosher! Tones could maybe be Power and Range just because a high Splash Damage + high Splash Radius combo would go so hard on this thing.
Snipewriter- This could possibly have a new chip for Shots-Per-Charge. With no chips it maybe starts at 2 shots per charge just so it's different from the normal Order Charger. And then, kinda like how Order Dualies can go beyond Tetra's four rolls when you put enough Extra Dodge Roll, many Shots-Per-Charge chips can put the Snipewriter beyond its multiplayer five shots per charge.
Any/all Grizzco weapons! I don't have clear ideas for aaaall of them, but I have some thoughts. Possibly all of the more ink-hungry ones, but DEFINITELY Grizzco Slosher, should have Support as a common tone. Having only four sloshes on a full tank in the Spire sounds like a fucking nightmare so that damn thing needs ink saving/recovering chips like we need air. Maybe for Grizzco Slosher, Support is its most common, while the other ink-hungry Grizzco Weapons have it as their second most, if they have it at all.
Grizzco Dualies would probably be affected by Extra Dodge Roll chips just like the normal Order Dualies, but since Grizzco Dualies get so many dodge rolls in SR, it should start off with slightly more, and build up to *much* more, rolls than Order Dualies do.
I have no fucking clue how Grizzco Charger could work, since you can essentially turn the regular Order Charger into it anyway. Maybe this one would not even be added for that reason?
For Grizzco Splatana, I don't really know how it not having a ranged attack (the "blade" of ink that Wiper and Stamper throw out) could be handled. Maybe getting one Main Range chip will add it at a kinda short range, and you have to stack multiple Main Range chips to make it even better?
☆ Misc/smaller things (either *actually* small changes or just stuff I don't feel like I talk super long about):
     • Some other hacks / adjustments to existing hacks would be neat. I for one really wish you could be able to set Double Chip Rate to absolutely zero, instead of the minimum being 5%. Would make specific design runs a bit easier... I like making checkerboards and sometimes I refresh a ton, FINALLY find the color I need... only for it to be a x2 and I don't have enough money to room reset anymore.
▪︎ ... Either give us some sort of opportunity to spend Prlz while we are actively inside the Spire, or *stop putting Prlz in the vending machines if we're maxed out on them!* Slots that could have a chip or Sub or Special I could use are taken up by unbuyable Prlz a lot of times!
▪︎ More story stuff, somehow. Where is the explanation or even acknowledgement of #35 caught? What the hell is Cipher? I know it's a Lucifer Prawn but I mean, like, what is its purpose besides being a shopkeeper, is that it's only purpose? Is it a manifestation of something like Order/Smollusk was? Why did it pop up? Even Marina doesn't seem to know. Also I'm a little tired of the repeated dialogue now, some new stuff to stop and read would be cool.
▪︎More floor types? It feels unlikely they would do that at all let alone add very many (unless they come up with some kind of infinite mode), but itd be neat of they added enough new levels that you could hypothetically very easily do a Portal-only run, or Zones-only, etc.
▪︎More bosses possibly? If I remember old Splatfest datamined correctly, at least one of the bosses is based on a Splat1 boss. So like... even if they just remix a nostalgic boss fight to add a new boss, that's still something to add more variety to runs. And if they do the badge thing I mentioned before then that's more cool badges to get, more stuff that completionists can work toward.

YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DRESS UP YOUR AMIIBOS IN SPLATOON
Edit: @visiblereality told me that you can already dress up the generic inklings and octolings amiibos, so we already have precedent for getting to dress up other amiibos.
So like you get gear from amiibos right? Imagine. How cool it would be. If you could DRESS UP THE AMIIBO IN THE GEAR AND ALSO GEAR YOU ALREADY HAVE?? It's already super fun to dress up your own character, but DRESSING UP ANOTHER CHARACTER AND THEN GETTING TO POSE FOR A PHOTO WITH THEM??
Seriously, Imagine the amount of extra stuff this would add! You could use photo mode to make comics of the characters!
Guys.
You could dress up Callie as Pearl.
Obviously this wouldn't work with Amiibos in swim form and for smallfry, but if there absolutely MUST be a humanoid you can dress up for every Amiibo, then here's my solution: All Amiibos have a swim form and a bipedal form. That way you can dress up swim form amiibos, AND as an extra bonus we get canon images of the squid sisters's swim forms and off the hook's swim forms.
My Ideas for the smallfry amiibo are below. (SPOILERS FOR HERO MODE!!!)
For smallfry, I have 3 solutions:
not only do you get smallfry, you get Cap'n Cuttlefish!! There's a humanoid form, and his swim form is his floaty dehydrated form. This might conflict with the canon though.
not only do you get smallfry, you get Captain. They'll match the captain in game and will change if you change their appearance.
not only do you get smallfry, you get hugefry. At first this doesn't seem as good because you still can't dress him up but keep in mind, you'll get to pose with hugefry. That would definitely look extremely cool.
And that's why I think you should be able to dress up Amiibos!

my opinions on your favorite splatoon gear brand
nobody asked for this but i have OPINIONS
squidforce -the brand is basic, but if you tell me that's your all time favorite brand? I have to respect that level of authenticity. there are better brands for basic tees and shoes but don't let me stop you. live your truth
zink - BEST SHOES IN THE GAME. not the best sportswear brand but i have massive respect for your taste in shoes
krak-on - you've got good taste. i'd be surprised if you wore krak-on exclusively tho (and dissapointed. i hate brand loyalties)
rockenberg - one of the few popular brands i actually like! if you wear all rockenberg tho stop doing that (unless you're doing cowboy shit. then good for you howdy hat supremacy)
zekko - i was about to say zekko was mid but then i remembered they have the varsity jacket. you're on thin ice tho
forge - yeah forge does have the best headgear in the game. can't even argue about you with that
firefin - mid. what even is the appeal here. this just looks like a generic splatoon brand
skalop - best graphic tees in the game hands down. kinda mid otherwise tho
splash mob - why??? is it the hats??? the hats are cool ig but like. why
inkline - it's fine. definitely more of a cohesive style to this brand than some others, i can see why you'd like it
tentatek - kinda mid. it's sportswear which is fun, but like. there are better brands for that
takoroka - W BRAND. I LOVE TAKOROKA SO MUCH. LITERALLY NEVER MISSES
annaki - poser. point and laugh
enperry - you only like this brand bc it has 1 piece of gear you like don't you
toni kensa - i hate this brand. you're not fashionable because you only wear black and white. get some real style and then we'll talk
z+f - the "new brand" hype has died down. why are you still stanning this collab. granted the crocs are cool but still. it's not fresh anymore, move on
barazushi - it's kind of a worse inkline. i'm right sorry
emberz - never met an emberz fan that wasn't cool
grizzco - now, i could make a capitalism joke here, but i won't, bc grizzco gear unironically slaps. go get those scales girl
cuttlegear - yes, i also miss agent 4's gear and the new octoling armor. they're not in the game. move on
amiibo - there are 2 type of ammibo gear wearers: people who bought amiibos, and people who are cool. if amiibo is your favorite brand you're the first type of person
any brand that isn't in splatoon 3 - the newest game is the best in the series, you're literally just blinded by nostalgia. move on alreadyyyyyyyy

Splatoon 1 and 2 Amiibo/Amiibo Cards: What you need to know about using them in Splatoon 3
Hey fellow lovers of Splatoon! It’s your girl Kat Alyst, here with some funky fresh findings about amiibo cards.
Tumblr media
These are the mini amiibo cards! Very small, am I right? I got them from ebay (link for those of you who want to see for yourself: https://www.ebay.com/itm/195386966549?ViewItem=&item=195386966549), and I’m happy to report that they work! But there’s a few things I think are important to know if you want to use them on multiple consoles/get the gear faster.
So a little background info: I share my amiibo collection with my little brother, who has a switch of his own, so I had to make sure that I could use these both for myself and for him (he really wanted Pearl and Marina’s gear). We ran into some interesting complications though, with both the figures and the cards, and this is where my advice comes in.
If you have a copy of Splatoon 1 or 2, register your amiibo there first. Here’s why.
Number 1: When you register an amiibo on Splatoon 3, you will only be able to get gear from it on your account. When my brother tried to borrow my amiibo and cards that were freshly registered on 3, he did not receive the option to get gear like I had, he could only take photos. If you want to share you amiibo with your friends/siblings/cousins/pet rabbit so all of you can get the gear, this is crucial. You can just go and delete the amiibo save data every time you want to use it on a new console, but it’s still better to register them on an older game, because of the next point.
Number 2: If your amiibo reads as having save data from 1 or 2, it will give you all three pieces of gear right off the bat instead of having to level up and tap them multiple times to get all three pieces. We found this out because I decided to use 2 to overwrite the data to see if that would be enough to get them to work for my brother’s switch, and unlike when I tapped them on 3 for the first time and got one piece of gear, he got all three of them. The only amiibo we haven’t gotten this to work with are Callie and Marie, and that’s because I never beat the story mode of 2, and you can only use those amiibo in 2 once you’ve done that. I imagine if you have story mode beaten, the same can be said for them. I say this having tested it with regular amiibo from 1 and amiibo cards from 1 and 2.
Here’s the downside: You won’t be able to take pictures with any of your amiibo in photo mode unless they’re registered in 3, which is a bummer, but I get why. Important thing to know: using amiibo in photo mode is the only way you can pose your player character, so that’s one reason why people are searching amiibo and amiibo cards out. So do everything you want to do with them in the way of gear with save data from 2 before you register them with 3, and you should be golden. I’m actually gonna keep mine with 2 save data on them for a bit, since I have a sister that also plays 3 who’s visiting soon, and it makes more sense to re-register them with three once she’s gotten the perks. The only thing I will say is that if you register them with an older game first, you miss out on what the character dialogue is in 3, which is unique and different from the previous games and for each individual character, but if you don’t care about that, then it doesn’t really matter. Though I will say, it’s very interesting on the Octoling amiibo that came when 2 got Octo Expansion, their dialogue has changed significantly, screenshots below.
Octoling Boy in Splatoon 2:
Tumblr media
Octoling Boy in Splatoon 3:
Tumblr media
I didn’t know they spoke like that, totally missed out on that last game! And it makes sense if you know what the DLC story is in 2, what an interesting detail to tie it all together! Also he is so sweet and I just want to hug this guy so much!
One thing to note if you’re new to Splatoon amiibo is that some amiibo have the same function. For Splatoon 1, there was a second three pack introduced with a green inkling girl, purple inkling boy, and orange squid. I don’t know why they did this, but I happen to have those figures since I didn’t know any better, considered using them for customs at some point. These three amiibo give you the exact same gear and dialogue as the original three from 1 and are completely unnecessary unless you want those colors/are sharing with a friend. Unfortunately on my set of mini cards, the renders for green inkling girl and purple inkling boy are incorrect. They’re both wearing gear that isn’t featured on their amiibo, and the boy has the wrong skin tone. Also, my set of cards includes 17, and that’s because there’s an extra orange inkling girl for some reason? No idea why, but hey, I’ll take it!
Tumblr media
In conclusion, the amiibo cards are well worth your time if you want to get the gear and take fun photos without having to pay the astronomical scalper prices for the previous game’s amiibo (or if you just don’t want/don’t have room for the statues themselves). All 17 cards cost me about the same as one regular retail price amiibo ($12.99, not including tax and shipping), that is an absolute steal. I haven’t collected amiibo in a long time, not since Smash Bros where I was casually on the hunt. It’s actually kind of ironic, I first got an ebay account because of Smash Bros amiibo, my other sister found a set of Sonic and Shulk from Japan that was a good price,  so one character for me and one for her, and that was my journey into looking for stuff preowned online. I’m really happy with these, can’t wait to throw on the witch gear for spooky month. Hope you found this helpful! Have fun out there squiddos and octokids, see you on the turf!

finished filling slots on my splatoon 1 gear. actually before i got to aerospray rg. like 5 weapons before. i was going to finish it off once i got there because i wasn't sure if i'd get them done just from playing with every one 3 times, but i guess i don't need to
this just leaves 3 more groups of 3 weapons (done in different rotations so i get to play on more stages) until i'm done. and i plan to do the next one of these on the next rotation in a few hours
.52 gal deco, jet squelcher, aerospray rg
corocoro splat roller, hero roller replica, kelp splat charger
octoshot replica, n-zap '89, hero charger replica
those hero replicas are the only weapons i haven't used at all in the game now
(these weapons, and wasabi splattershot, are the most recently used ones before i came back to the game--i used corocoro splat roller to practice before taking on octavio in the amiibo challenge for the hero one, and i probably intended to do the same with kelp splat charger but didn't get around to actually doing the challenge until 2019)
since i'm done wearing gear just to fill slots, i'm also free to wear whatever i want now. to my knowledge, the only splatoon 1 exclusive gear is the squid girl outfit, the sushi chef outfit, the corocoro cap/hoodie, the white/black line tees, and the tentacles helmet, so i could wear those as i finish the last few weapons (though i'll probably wear the hero/armor gear for the hero replicas and the octoling gear for the octoshot)

I make amiibo chips for fun. I like to put them in coin containers with glitter, and I have offered to make my friends any amiibos they want.
I have everything I need to make the chips. I even had these grand plans for them, designed icons to put in them even, but when I went to print them... find out we are out of ink.
So I set them aside, sad and unfinished in my opinion.
Today I was making some for a coworker, for Splatoon 3 amiibos. I wanted to get them to her tomorrow, since she plays a lot and I know she really wants the gear for an upcoming event i believe (and I'm also trying to make a good impression because we're in those awkward beginning stages of friendship, and I really like her and really want to be her friend), and so I simply made them as usual with the coin cases and glitter, but opting to just put a piece of paper to label them.
I then realized something.
My own pressure and expectations of perfection have not only deprived my friends of the amiibos they want, but my own enjoyment of making them. Because to me, if they couldnt be perfect, if they weren't like the ones you could buy on Etsy, what was the point?
But I don't make these for Etsy. If i were to sell them, it'd be to people in my area, in the circles I run in. And even then, i doubt theyd expect high quality perfection from someone who just does this for fun (especially because it'd be $5. No one expects a hobbyist to be Etsy store perfect for $5)(again, assuming i'd want to charge money. I make them for fun and because i like to make people happy).
So i am simply labelling them with paper from here on out. Because why should my friends be deprived of the joy from their amiibos because I'm stressing over perfection? They dont care. They dont even know im doing the coin container-glitter thing.
All they know is their friend is making them amiibos.
And now I get to have fun doing it again.

I'm making myself play TotK even thou I still can't get myself hyped to play it. Long post under cut.
I went from having only one tower to now having about half. Still missing the two snow towers, Gerudo, Faron, Akkala, some other one I'm sure, but I finally have more towers. I killed the Flux Contrust I on the Great Sky Island and fused its core to a weapon so now I have a really big stick.
Where the Hell is the West Akkala stable? I remember it being just up the road from East but the only thing you the is the Tech Lab. Don't have the tower for this region so I don't have a map.
Made it to Zora's Domain just cause I could bounce over there from the tower. Also saved Bazz. Had to. Didn't do any main quest bounced outta there after meeting Sidon again and gettin my Zora armour (wooooooo!). Avoided my first Lynel sighting and it was fuckin SILVER. Should have taken a pic. Whoops.
Accidentally got more references for Koichi, still missing Lynel (whoops) and somethin else.
Still have crap weapons and crap armour, I just want to find armour with better defense than 7 that doesn't involve fighting a god damn boss. Just some place I can sneak in. I have yet to awaken any fairies. I'm going to start more aggressively scanning in amiibo, I did get the Seven Sage Sword but haven't used it yet I just want my Majora's Mask back. I want the Fierce Deity stuff too but I don't remember if my amiibo give it. I think the Poe dude will sell it but he doesn't have it on stock.
Speaking of stock, I helped Kilton's brother so he's somewhere now. Gave me a Bokoblin mask, this will be very helpful. I still want the Samurai Blupee armour, not sure who stocks it or where Kolton is now. Kilton is on Tarrey Town ig. I don't want the armour for its TP Rich Bitch affect, it just looks reeeeeeeaaaaally cool and I want it so bad. I will kill all the frogs for it. Once I get my GOD DAMN SENSOR FIXED it's over for the frogs.
Helped a five yr old go to Gerudo Town. Seems a little young but idk.
Found two more memories, one where Rarau fuckin obliterates Moldugas.
A nice Tumblr user told me Josha has another quest and after that Robbie will move back to the Akkala lab so he can give me the travel medallion.
Well I was in the area and cleaned out the lab cause why not, got the second piece of Yiga gear wooo. I got a prototype travel medallion that doesn't FUCKIN WORK. Josha will NOT give me her new quest so I can't get Robbie to fix it. The Hateno people are STILL not electing a new mayor even thou I've stalked CeCe & committed breaking-and-entering into Rede's shed.
Offered Satori an apple and now there's these weird blue pillars of light that lead me to hidden locations. One had a very easy shrine that straight up gave me a blessing, thank you very much Satori. The one in Kakariko did not have a shrine.
Bought the Sheikah shirt with the random gems I mined while doing some quest thing. Soon, I will be so sneaky. Really do need to wake up the fairies so I can upgrade its defense a bit. I take a hit like a water balloon (not good at all).
Ran out of arrows again. Ran out of Ruppes. There is simply not enough arrows in the world to keep me stocked up, esp when there's only one type of arrow now. I wish I hadn't let my Switch update so I could dupe shit to sell. The new method is fuckin complicated af and requires too much shit needed. At that point just farm it.
I do have a heat resist gear with level one, does that mean I can go to Gerudo Town or Kara Kara Bazaar (as in make it through the sandstorm during the day) and find another piece of heat resist there? I also have cold resist level 1 from pants, no flame or ice weapons thou.

new fic lmao
The amiibo Box - tarditzgrade - Splatoon [Archive of Our Own]
2,922 words
Fandoms: Splatoon and Smash Brothers
full fic under cut
The past couple weeks had been rough for Three. Extremely rough.
The Splatoon had practically doubled in size while Three was out, going from three agents to five, technically six, agents, as well as whatever limbo Off the Hook was in, and that dreaded Octoling that Three had no idea how to properly feel about.
On one hand, Three hadn’t had a great track record with Octarians, especially this one in particular and they weren't too keen on changing that. On the other hand, the rest of the Splatoon, including Craig of all people, seemed to trust her.
And then that Octo just had to save the world while Three was unconscious, just to rub salt in the wound.
The whole Metro/Kamabo ordeal had left Three shaken, disturbed, and utterly frightened. Not just because of the Octoling, but also of what they saw in Kamabo.
What they learned about it.
What they hoped to never encounter or hear of again.
And then, once Three did get back from the Metro, they learned that, apparently, Octavio had struck again and Callie had been kidnapped this time. And since Three wasn’t there to help, Marie decided to hire not one, but two replacements to get the job done.
Two replacements that were way too careless and flighty for what being an agent had to offer.
What certainly didn’t help is that those two looked like they were here to stay as well, so Three couldn’t even do all of their patrols and surveys quietly.
Combine all that with this stupid scar and that stupid voice that hadn’t shut up since their sanitization in Kamabo, and it was safe to say that Three had had an extremely loud, extremely rough couple of weeks.
So, here they were, out on a walk through Inkopolis Plaza in the middle of the night to maybe clear their head.
The Plaza was practically a ghost town since the Square boomed in popularity, so there were very few others out as well. Three regretted not bringing a weapon of some kind, in case some of these people weren’t trustworthy.
Instead, Three opted to keep their head down, focusing on the cracks in the pavement to distract them from their thoughts. They hadn’t been watching where their feet were taking them. And they didn't really care where they were going until they found they had stopped.
Three looked up to see where they had brought themselves.
The familiarity of the main Plaza area graced the scene around them. A couple of groups of stragglers here and there, but certainly not the night-life bustle it’d receive in its heyday.
And right in front of them was…
The amiibo Box. Odd.
They could recall using the strange apparatus a couple years back. It usually gave them equally as strange items when they presented an item of their own.
Sometimes it gave them bulky gear that they never saw anyone else using, sometimes it gave them copies of things they already owned, sometimes it gave them extra missions in Octo Valley.
Three remembered bringing all kinds of things to it, just to see what the amiibo Box would do. Despite how prevalent it was to them, they never saw or heard anyone else acknowledge it.
Once, they briefly brought it up to Marie, but the squid acted like she could not hear what Three had been saying, even if Three yelled.
Three asked her about it later and Marie had sworn she hadn’t heard Three talking at all.
Three had stopped using it after that.
Better to avoid things as mystical as the amiibo Box, especially if they didn't know how it worked. Things like that typically didn’t end well.
But now, here they were again. Watching the amiibo Box.
Maybe they should use it now. Just to see what it’d do for them at this moment. If it had any missions or answers for Three. Hopefully it wouldn’t point them to the Metro.
Three felt around their pockets. Drat, nothing. The amiibo Box did need one of those weird figurine things to work and Three definitely hadn't brought one.
Defeated, Three turned to head back to their apartment.
"Giving up that easily? The great Agent Three?"
Who the hell? Startled by someone correctly knowing their actual name, Three whirled back around, ready to fight this…man?
Leaning on the amiibo Box was a very pale man, dressed all in white, his equally white hair combed to his right. And his proportions…they looked like they were reminiscent of humans.
That wasn’t good. This could be someone’s rogue science experiment or an attempt by Kamabo to capture Three again.
Was anyone else seeing this? Three looked around to realize that everyone else had disappeared from the Plaza. Not even a jellyfish remained. That really wasn’t good.
The man continued speaking, ignoring Three’s distress. "I mean, you really wanted to access the box, right? I would've at least shaken it."
If this guy was with Tartar, he really didn’t look it. Three would’ve expected to see some teal or blue ink oozing off of him or something glowy but this guy seemed to have never heard of color before, all white from head to toe.
Three didn’t say anything back to him, charging a special instead to let this guy know who he was messing with.
The man simply laughed. “So, I do have the right person.”
Oh, that definitely was not good. This weirdo knew who Agent Three was and felt no need to back down.
Well, Three wouldn’t either. They let their special rip, a burst bomb launcher.
The man did not flinch as the bombs hurled towards him. Once the bombs were close enough to detonate, most of them disappeared, vanishing into thin air. The rest he let clatter to the floor, not exploding upon impact.
“I definitely have the right person,” he muttered, gazing down at the bombs at his feet.
Three glared at the man, but he kept his composure. "You're not the first silent hero I've dealt with. And while fighting is a nice way to communicate, I do speak sign language. I could also read your thoughts, if you’re okay with that.”
Okay, maybe this guy wasn’t with Kamabo. Far too out of place for that. At least Tartar’s ramblings made some kind of sense. ‘Silent hero’? ‘Reading thoughts’? Three was already tired of this guy's shenanigans. Who the hell was this guy and what did he want?
“Well, I want to make an offer to you, but you’re putting up a bit of a fight.” The pale man rose off the box. Under the light, Three could see he had a slight red hue to him. Very different from blue.
He stepped closer to Three, and Three stepped back. He frowned at that. “You are Agent Three of the New Squidbeak Splatoon, correct?”
Three, hesitantly, nodded. Maybe he’d back off with proper confirmation. They signed in response, testing his truthfulness. ‘ Who are you? ’
“Straight to the point, I see.” He laughed. “I am Master Hand. Like I stated before, I am here to offer you a job, nay, a prospect no one could refuse. Would you like to hear me out? We could talk and walk, if you like.”
Three assessed the situation. It was the middle of the night, Three was very tired, and probably wasn't thinking straight. If an attack did happen, Three would not be in the right headspace.
But this ‘Master Hand’ was certainly the oddest thing Three had seen and they had seen a lot in the recent weeks.
A lot they could take their mind off of.
Any job that required Three’s skill set would probably be enough to absorb their attention for a bit.
Screw it, they’ll bite.
But before Three could nod, the man grinned, “Great. Let’s walk. You lead.”
Even though he told Three to lead, Three had dropped back to keep an eye on him. This so-called ‘Master Hand’ had yet to say anything to Three, despite him initiating this encounter.
The pair had left the main part of the Plaza and were making their way to Three’s apartment. About halfway through the journey, Three finally looked away from the ‘Hand’ to take in their surroundings.
The main area’s emptiness continued throughout the rest of the Plaza. No inkfish, fish, or jellyfish was in sight. Every building they passed had its lights off, the only illumination coming from the streetlights, the moon, and whatever was radiating off Master Hand.
The alarm bells of ‘stranger danger’ and ‘stay cautious at night’ rang loudly in Three’s head. They were still sticking to the path towards Three’s place, but Three had no idea if Master Hand meant to lead them off that path or had accomplices waiting to grab Three the second they let their guard down.
They considered dropping a couple of Splat Bombs and Super Jumping away, but the Hand in front of them chuckled, stopped walking, and turned around to face Three.
“Please don’t run off, because then I’d have to find you again and that might lead to a fight and then I could be down a fighter before I could even ask them to battle and that’d be quite awful.”
Three tensed. This reading minds thing was getting a bit off-putting. Three would’ve liked some form of privacy in this exchange or else they would definitely dip out of here.
“That I can do.” The Hand clasped his…hands together. “Now, I believe we got off on the wrong foot and my silence is probably not helping.”
‘ Then explain yourself ,’ Three signed.
“Yes, explanations are a good place to start. Like I said, I am Master Hand. And I…” He paused to think about his words. “I don’t know what you’d call me. I am no god. I’m…I am Master Hand.”
Alright, this wasn’t worth it anymore. Three summoned a new special and felt it surge within them.
Then, they felt it die down just as quickly. They looked up. Master Hand held out his right hand, now giving off a soft glow, and his smile had slightly faded.
“Please do not run off.” His tone had also shifted to be more authoritative. “I know you don’t know it, but you’re definitely one of the most important fighters on my list. It’s just been a bit since I’ve had to convince someone new to fight for me and I’d really hate to mess this up.”
Three didn’t let their guard down, but they let the man continue his rambling. Maybe he’d get his act together and explain whatever nonsense was wasting Three’s time.
“I am Master Hand and I run a game, no, a tournament of sorts. A series of them. Where I pull fighters from all across the cosmos, the universes, to fight together for both popularity’s sake and just for the thrill and fun of it.”
Three took a second to fully comprehend what Master Hand had said. An interdimensional tournament that supposedly had contestants from all over universes.
If the guy had said it a couple minutes earlier, Three would've called him crazy and definitely fled out of there. But his behavior had teetered into the supernatural, even for Three's world. If he could prove he was truly for real and not some weird scientist’s freak, Three might hear him out.
‘ Prove it .’
“Have I not already?”
‘I don't care. Prove you can “cross dimensions” .’
Master Hand clicked his tongue. “You’re very difficult. Very well. Look at me.”
Three was about to say ‘ I already am ’ until they did a double take and saw… a hand.
Not the Master Hand from before, but an actual Hand. A giant, white-gloved, floating hand in front of them.
Three blinked again to correct their vision, but the human-like Master Hand had returned, sitting on a bench that definitely wasn’t there before. “Is that good enough?”
Yeah…yeah, that probably was good enough. Good enough to not feel like a waste of time anymore. Good enough to feel like this guy meant business.
Three took a bit to reply, having to rub their eyes first. ' Fine. And you want me for these tournaments? '
“Bingo. I am very much ashamed that I did not call you for my last bout of tourneys. I did not think that you’d pull any fans, and your inclusion would've been a sore loss on profit. However, I can see now that that was a mistake.
"I, Master Hand, would like to formally invite you to my fifth round of tournaments."
Three considered. A fighting tournament did sound pretty fun. A great opportunity to bash some heads and get everything in their system out. Maybe meet some new people as well.
But Three would probably have to check with the rest of the Splatoon. How long would they be gone for? Would they ever come back? Would anyone know if they disappeared?
And Three also needed to know: ' Why me? '
Master Hand looked slightly shocked. "Why you? Your appearance would pull many fans and I need a fighter from something…for lack of a better word, fresher , than all of the old-timers I'm bringing in."
' No. Why me specifically? You could've pulled any other inkling off the street and been fine. '
Master Hand didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he patted the bench next to him, directing Three to sit next to him.
Three obliged. Their feet were starting to ache, along with their head. Too much to think about at once. This was why they avoided the mystical.
Master Hand’s response attempted to ease the pain somewhat. “I suppose, your fighting prowess is remarkable compared to the other people in this world. I think you’d fit right in with the line up.”
No shit. Three could fight. They both knew that already. But Three could also fight here, or at the Lobby or in the Valley. How did fighting in another dimension change things?
‘ You could’ve grabbed a profreshional then or another agent. Four and Five have way more versatility than me and Eight could easily stand toe-to-toe with me. Why not ask them? ’
Master Hand frowned. “Listen, Agent Three. I know that your recent history has been very…difficult. I don’t want to know the full story, but I know you’ve been off as of late. I’m offering you a vacation. A break.”
‘ I don’t need a vacation. Especially not one out in the whatever you call it. ’
“Oh, but it’s more than just a vacation.” Master Hand leaned back into the bench. “You’d be with many like yourself and a part of something that very few can wrap their head around. And that’s not a bad thing. It’s like lifting a weight off your shoulders, just letting the absurdities carry you.”
‘ The what? ’
“The absurdities. The ridiculousness. The wackiness.” The Hand sighed like someone remembering a staple landmark of their childhood home. “The way the cosmos twist and turn is not limited to physics or rules and I love it for that. No one ever can or ever will consistently predict what will happen out there.”
He looked up at the sky and laughed. “I think you could use that, Agent Three. Just letting loose for a bit. Not caring about what’ll happen next. Forgetting if something is out to get you. If someone is out to find you.” He looked back at Three and tapped the right side of his face for emphasis.
Three kept their eyes on the street, but brought their own hand up to their face.
To the scar.
The scar and that voice that hadn’t shut up since the sanitization. It merged with everyone else’s voices yelling about where to go from here, what to do about the newbies, whether or not to keep watching the Metro.
Three had no answers for any of them, not with their own challenges and insecurities to deal with.
Master Hand's voice brought them back to earth. “I know you could use the break, Agent Three. There will be no need to talk it through with others, I will handle the time displacement. Once you make a decision, call me and I’ll tell you what else needs to be done.”
‘ And if I don’t make a decision? ’
“Well, you never questioned the amiibo Box before. No need to start now.”
Three started to give him another response of some sort. What exactly they’d say they didn’t really know, but as they turned to talk to him, they learned it didn’t matter.
Master Hand had vanished.
Left in his place was a piece of paper, slowly floating off the bench and onto the sidewalk. Three dashed forwards to catch it before it hit the pavement.
Upon closer inspection, they could see it was an envelope. Turning it around revealed a red wax seal, stamped with an off-center cross.
Three now had two options. Either toss this envelope in the nearest dumpster and run home to never think about this encounter again…
Or accept this invitation and be dragged into the ‘absurdities’ of the cosmos. Take a break from the pressure of the Splatoon.
Reminders of ‘stranger-danger’ started ringing in Three’s head, but they shut those out quickly.
The last time they ignored that rule was the best mistake of their life.
Three pocketed the letter and rose off the bench to set off to their apartment, preferably to sleep.
Better to engage with the mystical on a clearer head.

how do you think each of the interns would do at splatoon? who could complete octo expansion, who plays competitively, who's in it to collect all the gear and customize their character?
Raz: Sloshing Machine main. really loves the Booyah bomb because it makes him feel good to win via teamwork. Loves Salmon Run for the same reason, but he does wonder about the morality of the whole thing.
Adam: Only plays Turf War, mains E-Liter. Mostly plays to collect all the clothing. Treats it like a dress up sim. Has all the amiibo costumes.
Gisu: X ranked in the first week she got the game. Mains any and all dualies, really hard to hit. Does tests with a stopwatch every time it updates to make sure they didn't nerf her favorite gear.
Norma: Flingza Roller main. Stuck on the Inner Agent 3 fight, won't go back to the main game until she beats it. When she does, she likes Salmon Run. Thinks of herself as team leader, even though nobody does voice chat with her.
Lizzie: Octobrush main, switches to Splatana in 3. Extremely casual player, but thinks the Inklings are really cute. Wants IRL fangs like that.
Morris: Splatbrella main. Likes the music but is a little embarrassed about it. Wanted to go to one of the IRL Squid Sisters/Off the Hook concerts. Thinks the Octolings have better hair.
Sam: Squid party all day every day. Banned from playing at the same time as the the other Interns. Has really expensive late-game gear, leading the other interns to think she's actually really good as long as she's not playing with them.

I wish there was more Dresses in the game. I miss the Squid Girl Outfit. I get they’re going for a neutral look but most of the options are t-shirts and jackets.
They could also do it like the amiibo gear and have two variants.

i had a dream about 3 new amiibos that was honestly amazing
First Amiibo was Marigold, I don't quite remember what she gave you but it was Kamabo Co branded, and her box text changed each time, and each time she talked about her busy life and it was really nice.
The second was a really cool Salmonid guy named I Am The Demon Who - (I cannot remember the rest of his name so I'm just going to call him Demon) He looked like a Stinger but he had no pots, the Stinger mask only covered his top jaw leaving him able to talk (he had actual dialogue unlike the Smallfry Amiibo) and he had a clear plastic...jetpack(?) that had a long black cord attached as well as two clear plastic guns that were clearly a Salmonid mashup of the Splatershot Jr and Duelies. His gear was essentially a gear set for the Deep Sinker helm but with a different style helmet. He would actually follow you around after registering him and talk to you, he was honestly my favorite. He also gave you sets of stickers based on your current rank in Salmon Run.
The last one was supposed to be Craig Cuttlefish (apparently the second one according to his in game title, which also implied there was a DJ Octavio Amiibo) but it was essentially an irl giant squid with his eyes and beard (yes it was as disturbing as your thinking) but claimed to be what he looked like in the great war. His gear was a detective/Sherlock Holmes set but I didn't get it in game because there were several ways he could give you the gear ( there was no 'win twenty games' stipulation and they were not pre-owned, they also would not let you change their names during registration which was weird...) The first option was to go back and do the quest later, one to "skip further into the story", one to do a mission with Splatlings and the last one to answer a question (mine being "Which two locations would take you several hours to get to from Inkopolis?" in which you would type out your answers, mine being Calamari County and Splatsville (or ShipShape))
I might draw demon later because he was really damn cool. Honestly I wish Amiibos worked like this, it would be less of a slog to get all the gear.

My Drizzle Season '23 Predictions pt. 1: Probable Assumptions
I have some ideas for what may happen in the next season that I'm gonna prattle off now. I literally have a checklist in my notes app to go through and check things I got right later.
If you don't follow dataminers, this contains a few spoilers for known potential future updates (there is NO Side Order datamine info here, don't worry!).
● Side Order released close to or even simultaneously with the update, or at least more information revealed in September's Direct(?). Or... literally anything about Side Order, really. Little surprise scene at the end of the season trailer (if they do one), maybe in a similar cryptic style to what we saw in the original Side Order teaser? ● New octoling hairstyles, possibly introduced in a customization screen in Side Order and then usable in multiplayer, at least by DLC owners. ● Salmon Run "Underground" mode finally added. ● Boss Salmonids "Balloon" "Wheel" "Ghost" implemented. • "Balloon" "Wheel" and "Ghost" possibly Underground exclusive. • Alternate theory: "Balloon" "Wheel" and "Ghost" are not regular bosses- they could be for some sort of brand-new (and *also* potentially Underground exclusive?) Night Waves. ● King Salmonid "BigBalloon" finally implemented and introduced this Big Run. • "Balloon" and "BigBalloon" turn out to actually be different size+strength versions of the same kind of creature, just like how their internal names make it sound. ● A new King AND another SR stage. (Dataminers already know all S2 stages are coming back- with how much longer the game is said to be being updated for, they won't all fit if the alternating 'new stage, then no new stage' pattern continues.) ● New Hotlantis items. I don't think they've ever added new decorations/stickers apart from the catalog unlockables so the anniversary would be a nice time to add some. ● New weapon in the Stringer class, or DEFINITELY a new Tri-Stringer kit. ● Possible reveal of Deep Cut amiibos at some point. Surely it's going to happen eventually, and around the anniversary would be a great time. ● Some sort of substantial gift for the 1-year anniversary (gear?), given either through a QR code, or the terminal will have it waiting for you automatically upon installing the update. ● Splatoween Fest in October, 100%! Topic possibly something like different types of monsters.
Or something like Scary, Funny, Cute Costumes, probably in that order. • Gear from S2 like the devil horns make a comeback, AND brand new gear is made? The idea of the theme being costumes would be fun here because the new gear could have cutesy accessories, some more creepy/edgy things, some goofy stuff. Maybe they instead squeeze Cosplay in as one of the three options and they could have gear referencing other Nintendo games? Iunno. ● Much more gear than previous seasons, because anniversary + making up for how Sizzle '23 didn't seem to give us anything outside the catalog and SR monthly gear.
● Noticeably more new kits than previous seasons, because anniversary. ● Another significant change/addition to the Shell-Out Machine that makes everyone's seeds change again. ● Gold Dynamo finally? ● Balance: Brella buffs finally?
● Return of gear abilities: Damage Up or Main Power Up, Bomb Sniffer, Cold-Blooded. ● Return of Specials: Any Bomb Rush/Launcher, Stingray, Bubble Blower, Baller. Or another brand new Special like Super Chumps were? ● Splashdown added to multiplayer. ● Some other Hero weapon(s) added somewhere, somehow.

Paintman Go Features not in Splatoon
Some people wanted a part 2 to my last post so here you go, this one being a lot more silly because Tumblr deleted my first draft of this post and I am bitter.
1. Pet system
Tumblr media
As mentioned in my first post Paintman Go used to have a pet system. While most of it was lost to time due to little photo archiving being done I asked around and it seemed you could feed your pet food and evolve them, bringing them in battle would give your weapon a different sub then it normally would. 2. Upgradable Weapons
Tumblr media
Unlike in Splatoon, all you need stat wise is your gun allowing clothing to be fully cosmetic which I prefer. You can also equip 3 subs to a weapon at a time. Some of the subs and specials are exclusive to Paintman Go too.
3. New sub system.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To keep the subs balanced they added a bar to the bottom right, to use your special or your subs you need the correct amount of points which are gotten by inking turf. You could in theory get your special off twice in a row if you save up and are good enough.  4. Inking the walls
Tumblr media
Inking the walls gives you points.... I don’t get it either.
5. Bot players
Tumblr media
You know how I know inking the walls isn’t a bug? these little heckers do it! If a player disconnects or not enough people show up these guys show up. They like to move before the match even starts, ink the walls, jump around and sometimes get stuck in their bot forms.
6. Super Jumping anywhere
Tumblr media
I was a bit mistaken in my last post on paintman go, turns out super jumping anywhere is a much older feature. It’s just only in the battle royale mode as of the current build so I was confused.
7. Battle Royal Mode
Tumblr media
Oh yeah, the battle royale mode. That’s a thing I gotta list. Instead of 2 teams of 3 it’s 4 teams of 3. No clue why it’s not 4 teams of 4 but likely since that may be laggy.
8. The autobombs are children
Tumblr media
This one I’m throwing in since it’s just something I find funny. The autobombs are identical to your crab form, no it’s not a placeholder since even the HUD icon is of a little itty bitty bot. Man, good thing Octo Expansion isn’t copied in this game or Agent 3 would have some explaining to do. 9. Backpacks
Tumblr media
Someone sent this idea to the blog a while ago, little did they know it was a feature in Paintman Go this whole time. The backpacks sadly don’t show your ink amount but I’m sure if Nintendo added it they’d fix that.  10. Pokémon Clothing
Tumblr media
Seriously, why isn’t this in Splatoon? Nintendo, what are you doing? Why is there no nintendo themed gear, make it amiibo functionality or something. 11. Longer clothing and skirts
Tumblr media
This isn’t even all of them but you get the idea right?  12. White ink in normal turf
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not my screenshots since it seems kind of rare but you see a cpu player with the coconut juice.
13. World Leaderboard
Tumblr media
Self explanatory. 14. Clothing Chunks
Tumblr media
By winning in turf wars you can get these clothing puzzle piece things, if you get enough you get free clothing.
15. Lootboxes
Tumblr media
Oh yeah... forgot to mention the lootboxes. Yeah you get the things from number 14 and more from these. THANKFULLY they can only be gotten via actual gameplay and not real money like in past builds. (for now at least, is still in beta) If any of this interests you you can download the game here, maybe it can hold you over till splatoon 3. (Assuming you don’t have a switch or Wii U...)

One Lenten Season Later…
Tumblr media
(Sorry for the hiatus, I took a break from Tumblr for a while.)
I CHECK NEWS ON NINTENDO ALMOST EVERY DAY AND THEY HAVE TO DROP THIS MINI DIRECT WHEN I DON’T CHECK?!
And suddenly I get an email saying, “This is what you missed from the 3-26-20 Nintendo Direct Mini!” and I freaking lost my—
The shockingly not-spoiling trailer analysis time!
Tumblr media
Alvis
Let’s not beat around the bush—Alvis has a core crystal necklace. He is Ontos. This is officially confirmed. You can’t hide that from me, Nintendo!
I’m expecting this to be one of many subtle changes to the game to match Xenoblade 2, and since they have Adam Howden for the epilogue (more on that further down), I wouldn’t be shocked if they re-recorded the Klaus experiment scene or reused VA lines from Xenoblade 2.
Gameplay
Nintendo talks about the game having smoother combat and UI. They also mentioned making quests easier to keep track of. This could mean a lot or a little, specifically, one thing—the little blue line leading to the exclamation point on the map.
“Fashion Gear” is something brought in from Xenoblade Chronicles X. That is where you can choose one set of armor to wear for appearances and another set for the actual stats. I had to look that up, since I didn’t get too into X to realize that was a thing. I think it’s a nice addition, and this forum user nicely sums up my feelings on it: “Finally I don’t have to make Sharla look like a stripper to optimize her!”
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/272738-xenoblade-chronicles-definitive-edition/78508768
And since this falls not really under any category in this analysis, I’ll note it here. XCDE won’t have amiibo compatibility or the Collection Mode from the New 3DS port.
Major Things (VA, Music, Art)
Voice acting is the same. I synced up a couple of lines from the scene in the trailer where Shulk grabs the Monado from Dunban. I didn’t need to do much comparison to draw that conclusion, so we’re good, they’re not doing a redubbing. :)
A thing I noticed though was that we didn’t hear Melia’s voice in the epilogue sneak peek (again, more on that later down). I’m guessing they’re still trying to get her VA on board, or her lines aren’t finished being recorded yet. Or they were forced to get a new VA. If they did, don’t hate on this VA, please. She’s got huge shoes to fill.
If they haven’t gotten the lines recorded/finished being recorded yet, this may be why the funky captions were added into the epilogue to give bigger teases to the story without revealing the fact that they miiiight not have gotten all the voice acting down yet. I really hope this is the case, and it’ll match the rest of the game’s cutscenes. The funky text is strange. I’ll find the font name for anyone wanting it for some reason.
Tumblr media
What’s not the same is the music, and before they even directly stated that 90 songs are being remixed/rerecorded, I knew they remastered the music. I have listened to the soundtrack every night for years, I know when it’s different.
And when they say 90, they mean literally every song in the game. The official soundtrack has 91 songs, and “Hope” was cut from the game, so that makes 90 songs redone.
Based on how it sounds, I’m actually thinking these might be live orchestra like Xenoblade 2’s. In Iwata Asks’ interview with ACE+ and the other composers, they talked about needing to pick one program to use as a group instead of multiple composition programs. And after listening to the special live orchestrations of some of the music, I think Xenoblade’s soundtrack was synthesized digitally. I’m not saying that’s bad at all, it’s just one way to make music. But I am thinking they used a real orchestra for DE.
You guys remember my post on how Xenoblade’s official character art were all retouched 3D models? Well, here are some preview pages from the art book that I found off Nintendo of Japan’s website for XCDE. Absolutely gorgeous art in a 250-page art book. We now have weapon designs, concept art of locations, new outfit/armor turnarounds, Scuba Shulk(TM), and new official character art—3D models! Lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a note, the Mechonis art on the front of the special edition art book is exactly the high-definition art of the Mechonis in the Monado Archives, and the Mechonis’ texture in the game looks pretty darn close to this art. I think they modeled the remaster/remake Mechonis model off of this art piece, and the same goes for the Bionis’ Monado Archives high-definition art.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, the epilogue, Future Connected. I saved it for last because I genuinely stopped the Direct after the main trailer not realizing there was more.
So I realized the promotional images had more that I didn’t see, so THEN I watched more of the Direct and saw this.
I’m torturing you all.
You get to wait until Part 2.
I’ll be posting next some high-definition images of some in-game locations I pulled from Nintendo of Japan’s website for the game. I felt like a hacker, using Inspecting the Elements in Google to get these. They make great desktop screensavers. I love my grandiose shot of the twin statues of Soltnar and Khatorl.
Honestly, I’m so grateful and thankful Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition is being made.
Part 2: Future Connected (facts and theories) and images of in-game areas from the Japanese site for XCDE.
