Hello again Domestic Rolan anon! (Or maybe yellow heart anon??) I will never skip over Tieflings purring, it's too cute to pass up!

Rolan and Purring

Rolan finds purring absolutely embarrassing. It's one part of Tiefling biology that he hates.

Not only is his particular purr pretty loud, purring is extremely vulnerable for him, so it takes him a long time to even feel comfortable enough to do it around his partner.

The only time he ever purred for someone is for Cal and/or Lia when they needed comfort; even then, they were a lot younger, so he hasn't done that in years.

What he won't ever tell anyone is that he purrs by himself as a form of self-soothing.

When you finally settle down with him and he's very secure in your relationship (which could take a long time), he doesn't even realize he started purring in your private moments.

When you first point it out, he immediately stops and is pretty embarrassed about it. Face fully flushed and everything! It's adorable.

When asked, he begrudgingly explains that yes, some Tieflings can purr, but don't expect him to do it all the time!

Fully relaxed in your shared bed while cuddling with you, he'll quietly purr up a storm, hoping for more of your touch. Sometimes he'll purr when you're kissing, pulling you closer to him.

Other times is simple tasks that's generally loving; brushing his hair, massaging his shoulders, hugging him close and tight, and even tender neck kisses on his adam's apple gets him to purr at least lightly.

Or imagine a date night, splitting a bottle of Arabellan Dry and you take one of his hands in yours. Not only can you hear a quiet purr, but the tip of his tail is flicking happily as he laces his fingers through yours.

Writing Blurb

After a very long day, you and Rolan decide that the best way to spend the evening is to relax. You both were originally planning for a night out in the lower city, but watching each others tired looks, you decided that it was better to stay in for the night. Maybe to split a whole bottle of Arabellan Dry while you two were at it.

Getting into nightwear, the both of you share some dinner and wine, complaining about the day. How many idiots must pass through the doors of Sorcerous Sundries ranting about a spell failure before they realize that it was their own fault? They're the ones who couldn't get through the simple verbal component. You have to remind him that not everyone is as talented at magic as he is, but they shouldn't haven been yelling at Lia either way (she was working behind the counter for the day).

Now, the two of you lay together in bed, and you gently massage his back as you speak. "Maybe we should've let Lia just attack the guy."

"I do not want blood on my floors!" He exasperates, head comfortably settled on your chest. "It would be terrible for business, the Sundries isn't the Blushing Mermaid."

You laugh, fingers trailing to the back of his neck to press against his nape. "Well, it would at least make the day more interesting."

He grumbles incoherently but says nothing else about it.

Your fingers eventually trail to the back of his head, threading them into his hair. When he relaxes even more to the touch, you decide to scratch and massage his scalp. It's always a favorite of his.

What you didn't expect is for him to start purring.

It's not loud, but you can certainly feel it through your chest as his eyes flutter closed, tail winding around your ankle loosely. You knew that a tiefling's tail can act similar to a cat, but purring? That's new and adorable.

Running your fingers through his hair, you gently untangle any knots that found their way into the strands. You don't say a word, wanting to enjoy this quiet moment with the stressed wizard.

It's hard to get him to relax at all through the day, so this is a small victory you will savor.

As he dozes off, you whisper sweet nothings into his ear, hoping for a calm night and wishing for him to have a calmer day tomorrow.

hi i have some disorganized thoughts/hcs abt the found family human doctor au

(one of the thoughts being i should really give it a better name. another being YES this is only the nuwho doctors atm bc that's the only series i've watched so far apologies. if i ever get around to watching classic who i will add them trust)

BEHOLD my random, not at all in-depth headcanons

nine is the only one with a car out of all of them. they all keep bugging him to drive/pick them up from places -- he has mixed feelings about being the assigned taxi driver

both twelve and eleven are teachers -- college professor and preschool teacher respectively. twelve's students love them because he will say the most stupid, hilarious shit with a straight face without even knowing and eleven's students love him because he is the only teacher at the school that will dance with them during musical chairs (he doesn't even play the game. he just dances)

i want to make one of them an actual doctor but i don't think any of them could handle it unfortunately

they all share an an apartment flat on the same level -- nine, twelve and fifteen live in one room, ten, eleven and thirteen live in the one across from them. of course there are other people in the building too but they're all used to the strange loud hyperactivity of that particular flat. i think i'm using the right terminology here. yall know what im talking about

(i'm so tempted to make some companions be their neighbors)

nine and ten are the most insomniac of all of them, so they're used to bumping each other in the dead of night on their way to raid each other's respective fridges or something. very rarely thirteen will join them and they're like "WELL FANCY SEEING YOU HERE"

twelve does sleep, but like. he's nocturnal

eleven and ten hate each other in a sibling kind of way (see: day of the doctor). they are constantly sending each other death threats or tripping each other over. everyone is sick of it

sometimes when they're out shopping you'll hear ten yell "GET OUT OF THE FROZEN FOOD YOU NUMPTY WE ARE NOT BUYING FISH FINGERS" over the aisles and you'll hear eleven whine "WHY DO YOU HATE ME SO MUCH" back

(if you're lucky you'll be able to catch fifteen mumble "why did we put them in the same apartment. are we asking for an eviction notice")

eventually eleven will pick a random stray cat off the side of the road, take her home, and name her bowtie, which is a stupid name, so everyone just defaults to calling her kitty

kitty's favourite person is twelve, to eleven's absolute despair

(my original idea for this was to initially have ten hate the idea of living with a cat, since he's stated full on in the show that he doesn't like cats, but apparently there is some very obscure doctor who comic run in which he falls into a depressive spiral and adopts a cat whom he names rose-the-cat, so he might actually like cats idk?)

anyway ten hates her until he doesn't lmao. he vents to her when there's no one else home and she will Stare at him back and it is a very nice friendship

kitty and nine watch shitty romcom together

they have a joint groupchat together -- half of it is just thirteen and fifteen assigning everyone outfits they find on pinterest and the other half is eleven asking where everyone went (he keeps getting lost when they go out)

nine doesn't know how to download pictures off the internet and so resorts to manually editing memes together to send to the groupchat and everyone's like "girl that's so much more effort........."

(yes he doesn't know how to press save image to camera roll but he knows how to use a photo editor flawlessly. such is the logic of the idiocy of the doctors)

eleven and thirteen get along very well i think. they're the only two of the group to play video games and so they bond over that. they also have ridiculously similar clothing taste

sometimes they'll succeed in getting fifteen to play pokemon with them and then they'll proceed to not see him until the next day when he comes out of his room and goes "you didn't tell me plusle couldn't evolve i've been levelling it up all fucking night"

friday is assigned movie night (it's always big hero 6)

eleven is the only one to actively seek out physical affection, usually really abruptly like clinging to thirteen's back as she passes him in the hall or bapping ten with the palm of his hand until he sighs and gives him a hug. he does expect a platonic kiss on the forehead from anyone before he goes to bed and will complain if he doesn't get one

anyway thats it i'm sick in the head and really sad. if this keeps up i may be forced to actually write a fic

rei and miri's physicality: a chronological analysis (part 2)

Part one is here.

I accidentally missed this one from episode 3, and I am kicking myself because it is such A Moment, so I'm putting it here since I maxed out photos in part one.

Miri insists that the whole family sleep together, and what are Rei and Kazuki gonna do, say no? This moment is later referred to by both Miri and Rei, so it clearly left an impression. I genuinely wonder if they ever did it again or if the one time was so impactful. Anyway, I die at Miri's tiny fingers being curled around strands of Rei's hair.

Episode 7!

I think this is the only time we see Rei carrying Miri to the outside of the apartment as they're leaving the house, and I don't think Kazuki has done it either, so it was probably him trying to save time by running down with her since he believes they're running late for daycare.

Just more of Miri casually climbing on Rei again. After Rei heeds her comment (by ordering fries lmao. Rei, you disaster), she beams and clings harder.

Side note, it's funny how the cat shirt is clearly an indoor garment for him. He was sleeping in it and stopped to change into the purple shirt to take Miri to daycare despite running late (or so he thinks). He then he changes back into the cat shirt after they return.

In contrast to episode 3, this time when Miri climbs in the tub to sleep with Rei, he lets her. She probably wanted company after Kazuki "abandoned" them (and perhaps Rei did too).

Miri nuzzles Rei's hand in the cutest, softest, and most heart breaking way when he touches her head and asks if she's sick, and I hate that I don't have a gif of it to put here.

Once again, Rei picks her up so carefully :<

And this time he doesn't change his shirt. He just wraps Miri in a blanket and runs to Kyu 🥺 Look at his face, he's so worried about her.

Kazuki returns and finds them like this and it's so soft. Rei fell asleep kneeling at Miri's bedside, holding her hand. That's not a comfortable position to fall asleep in, even for Rei. The doctors probably reassured him that it was a typical cold that little kids will often get, but he was so worried, he kept a vigil by her bedside.

Episode 9! A big chunk of the episode is dedicated to Rei getting comfortable to open up more emotionally and have more confidence in his ability to be there for Miri. And then it culminates in the parent-child race.

Little kids using their whole hands to hold a couple of their dad's fingers is a very specific uwu button, but it sets me off every time. Not only was this moment referenced in the OP, it's also one of the only ones that's a direct scene lift

I love that they writers had the two of them hold Miri by the hand and carry her. That's such a gooey parent thing and I love to see it. I always wondered if it wasn't technically cheating, but never mind that, Miri got her medal lol.

Side note, Rei and Kazuki simply looking at each other and knowing exactly what they're both going to do--and them dusting all the others despite having fallen well behind--is so dear to me. Partners in work and childcare.

Piggyback! Now Rei has carried her in all possible ways. Not sure why Kazuki apologised for having Rei carry Miri when the stuff he's holding looked way more cumbersome to me lol. I personally thinks Rei enjoys carrying Miri around, especially when she's sleeping. Just a hunch.

Episode 10! A bittersweet one. Though not in terms of physicality for these two. Rei doesn't hug Miri to hide tears the way Kazuki does. He instead just lets his sadness show openly (well, openly behind Miri's back).

But back on topic. We get yet another instance of Miri's favourite way to rouse Rei out of sleep lol. I know it's Rule of Funny, but seeing Rei get more flustered by a pre-schooler jumping on him than by him walking into a hail of gunfire is golden. It also makes sense given his upbringing.

These are from two separate scenes, but I'm putting them together since they're so similar. The first one in particular is so sweet to me because Rei typically has both hands in his pockets. Here it's like he left one out so as to let Miri still have an outlet for the skinship that she loves to initiate. She's always mentioned how cool it is that Rei is so good at games, but the second one has more pure adoration than any other time. And Rei, more open with his emotions, is soaking it up. (Lol poor Kazuki)

Episode 11! Miri and Rei don't have have contact in the actual timeline of the episode's events, but we do get one amazing flashback.

I've gone back and forth between deeming this a flashback of unseen events and as a representative image of a concept Rei was thinking about. It kind of has the same filter as one of the quick flashbacks Kazuki has later in this scene. So, fuck it. It's a flashback. They swung her around again because she loved it so much the first time (and they're enjoying it too).

Episode 12!

Ten seconds in, we get one final 'Miri jumping on Rei to wake him up' gag to play us off lol. Great work, guys.

Miri helps Rei cook French toast for breakfast again, and this time they get Kazuki approval. High five~

I'm spit balling here, but my read on this is that Rei thinks Miri is asking that Rei pledge he cut his pinky finger if they break their promise. That's a thing the yakuza still do for infarctions and the only other time I've heard 'kejime' come up in a similar context was Higurashi, when Shion was being made to rip off her fingernails in penance. And it would perfectly explain Kazuki's reaction lol.

Another 'people's hands feel warm' moment, I'm sure. Once again, look at the size difference between their hands! 😭

Into the future, they remained sleeping buddies. And it's all the more significant that he's letting her rest entirely on his left arm. Rei has gone from sleeping in the bathtub in paranoid fear of ambush to napping in the open with his only working arm being restricted and probably gone numb from Miri lying on it. They're free 🥺

fair warning for ii neg, especially on the latest episode.

prefacing this with saying: I LOVE INANIMATE INSANITY!!!!!! inanimate insanity is my favourite show in the world and every episode leaves me full of joy and excitement. i adore criticizing it not out of hatred but out of genuine love. i enjoy every single episode i watch.

however, i find that iii19 has been the worst episode so far. it has gotten me the least hyped out of any episode in the series, which is saying a lot because i bounce off the walls at every episode no matter how much i end up criticizing it later. there are. so many problems i have with it. im gonna try and organize them the best i can, though i'll probably(?) edit this post later to insert anything i missed or forgot to say.

starting off positively: oj!!!! personally i am so glad he didn't talk in this episode. i was terrified of the idea of him having a new va. the spin was adorable, i loved his signature thumbs ups, and every time i saw him i squealed with delight. him voting for balloon also made me really happy! despite the grudge he's had against him for so long, he still sticks with him on this part. even after laughing at his death the episode before that

in general all the seasonwunners voted for balloon!! which makes me happy!!! paintbrush, nickel, balloon, and oj have all been there for the very beginning of season 1, three of them being there for every season. i love the inherent connection the contestants from season 1 have with each other. they've been together since inanimate insanity began and they're there for the end of season 3 too. very sweet.

onto more negative stuff! I CANNOT FUCKING BELIEVE WHAT THEY DID WITH SILVER SPOON AND CANDLEEE they set up something crazy in the last episode and then did NOTHING with it!!! they had silver spoon beat candle unconscious the second she said something that wasn't coddling him like the manchild he is and she STILL voted for him. where even was she for half of the episode?? they just left her lifeless corpse on the ground in iii18 and then she eventually got up in this episode and just. went back to the competition??? dogshit writing

okay now i wanna talk about cabby. I Don't Like Cabby Anymore. so from the very beginning i have loved cabby. she was extremely similar to me in fact! i have really bad memory issues and i tend to keep files on people and on things that i might forget about, as well as just to organize my thoughts and ideas. i loved her confidence, obsession with knowledge, and analytical personality at the start. i was pretty upset when the characters (mostly test tube lmao) started relentlessly bullying her, and i HATE the whole thing in spring on the breakfast where they try to demonize her files. it was kind of annoying when they tried to remedy it really quickly after that because it was clearly because of the backlash, but i was glad they at least tried to fix it. however, over the course of the series, she just felt like she was... becoming sadder? pitiful, honestly? she went from an awesome smart character who loved taking notes on people's behaviour and using that information to get better at the game into some kind of Sad Little Bullied Victim. she doesn't even feel like a character anymore to me, just a mouthpiece for the creators to write dramatic "cathartic" speeches through to prove they're Definitely Not Ableist. also what was the deal with her parents lmao they never brought that up again

aaaand this episode was generally written really badly. super fucking corny for one. they literally had a little dance party at the end like people make jokes about for stereotypical Kids' Shows. but my issue is more with like... the weird super fast character development? and the way they wrapped everything up as quickly as possible? something that bothered me was the tonal whiplash between zuwie voicing springy super hysterically and dramatically and then springy being fully redeemed within like the next 5 minutes and dying for mephone. Why did they even die for mephone. like as a character why would he of all people die for mephone. thats so fucking stupid. the rest of the voice acting felt completely different from springy's as well so it just made the effect worse. everyone's lines were really corny and felt so manufactured, like they would pull characters to mephone's side (losing my mind over all the contestants rooting for mephone like cmon man that guy sucks i just know oj at least would want him dead) with a short Cathartic Speech and everything would be fixed and lovely and peachy keen. its just painful to watch. everything feels really weirdly disjointed and badly put together, the flow is awful, the "danger" doesn't feel like there's any suspense to it at all, and every character gets fully redeemed for no good reason. even walkie talkie chats casually with mephone at the end as if they're good friends after they were HYSTERICALLY INSISTING ON MURDERING HIM? AND MAKING HIM WATCH HIS OWN DEATH?? idk if this will get explained in s2 but we still don't know who walkie talkie is, what their motive is, WHY they got redeemed, etc. we know nothing about them. and even if it will be explained later, i think it's shitty writing that NOTHING was explained in this season.

some extra stuff

- SO FUCKING GLAD THEY DIDN'T BRING HOTEL OJ INTO THIS I WOULD'VE CRIED IF THEY PUT SEASON 3 CHARACTERS INTO HOTEL OJ OR MADE IT ALL SLEEK AND S3 STYLE

- the "you can do this" thing at the end was fucking stupid man that was so corny (btw corny isn't always bad but jesus christ... this episode was just awful with it)

- could not feel any emotion towards the Emotional Parts but laughter and secondhand embarrassment

- HOW DID THEY GET THE FUNDING FOR A LIBRARY? I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS THAT MEPHONE DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING FOR A PRIZE HOW DID HE PAY FOR AN ENTIRE LIBRARY

- speaking of, why isn't oj back at the hotel. doesn't he have to manage it. wasn't paper having a ton of trouble managing it. why are all of them still on that fuckass island. did the library take like 5 minutes to build what the fuck

- ALSO!!! Why did they build a library in the middle of a deserted island

- i liked the short nickloon scene because im a nicklooner

- glad yinyang and candle got to talk

- test tube saying nearly nothing at all the entire episode except for sitting on the ground in a really stupid pose and apologizing to cabby made me laugh

- weirded out by tt and fan not talking to each other at all? not as a ship thing but like they're best friends aren't they

- really fucking annoyed by the fantube family picture at the end i hate fantube family leave that grown ass adult (bot) alone

- glad they didn't canonize any ships i was so scared about silvercandle and fantube

- 4s scene and s1 flashback was cool i love s1 so i got excited

- aaaaand i think my misogyny thread is relevant again. i should update it sometime because ii has only gotten worse about it lmao

- didn't like them making clover stupid for some reason like "is he talking about me?" come on

- oj not talking in these last two episodes is so glaringly unusual because he's never been able to shut his fucking mouth for even a minute

so i am gonna talk abt the delanceys. and i don’t want that to make you scroll away at the speed of light. i want to talk about them in a broader sense, view them in a broader sense, in the way that we talk about jack and his existential need to leave where he is for the west- and, further, going into analysis, like how “the west” in america in the 1890s is a capitalist venture that is sold to jack as this idea of a new home, a better way to live, something that he needs, when the real home is new york with his chosen family and where no one needs to call him “son”.

i think what matters most in the world of the delanceys, and what puts them into a nuanced political stance as well as a personal one, is their father, the striking trolley worker.

i think it’s fair to assume that as a striking worker demanding better wages, as a union member, he deserves those wages. it’s good that he’s striking, that he’s demanding what he’s owed and doing so with his fellow workers. strikers are the right people to support especially based on the historical context of the trolley strike.

but this guy is… an asshole. he dumped these two children into the refuge and left them there to rot, presumably. there’s a possibility he didn’t know about how abusive snyder is, sure, but he knew it was a detention center and that’s not… where u put ur kids when u care abt them lmao.

so this man is a striking trolley worker who doesn’t give a shit about his own children. he’s an underpaid union member who deserves his dues but also lets his two sons suffer for years alone in a children’s jail. he fights the system to his benefit while submitting his two kids into a different one. the dichotomy is important here- it’s essential to the foil the delanceys are for the newsies.

the delanceys are strike breakers. strike breakers are, obviously, paid under the table to disperse union-led strikes and protests to uphold a system that benefits the rich- who of course will always benefit from underpaid work. the delanceys take money from this upheld system when they get the opportunity and beat strikers bloody who don't get to benefit from this system like they do. because they do benefit from that elitist system, since they are choosing to make money off of it outside of their usual job. right.

but within those strikers is their father. the father who left them to rot, who let wiesel scrape them out of that jail and enlist them at a dead-end newspaper gig. so the brothers hate this father, this striker, this piece of family. and this father is making all this noise with these other people- these people who support their father as his coworkers and fellow union members, and the delancey brothers' leave that strike with their fists red with more blood than solely their father's, since they're angry and good at it and the money is hefty.

and their childhood is semi-revenged, but at what ethical cost? they've served broken bones to plenty of workers just trying to fight for their fair pay- something that the delanceys can relate to, by the way, since it isn't like their wages are too stellar for how many hours they're forced to put in. but they put down these people--innocent sans their father--because they have the opportunity. opportunity for them is bringing others down, and when they have the choice, they take it. gladly. "it's honest work" is shrugged off and believed. "i take care of the guy who takes care of me" is snide. uk costuming has them wearing nicer work coats over their newsie-like attire, concealing their similarities and choosing to align themselves more with the elite, since that's...the only protection they can turn to besides each other. the elite gets them extra pay, and keeps them one rung above the newsies to sneer down at them from. they fight via using the system, since systems are all they've ever been apart of, and when they see one that might benefit them for once, they latch onto it.

and, of course, they're strike breaking again, with adult men and their uncle at their side, against their personal foils- the newsies.

the newsies either don't have family like the delanceys, or frequently have to be apart from theirs. lots of them don't have a sibling they can return to daily, or any at all. most don't have parents or family members. or homes to go back to after work. the system they are stuck in is one that does not work for them unless they make it work, making their own numbers and cash by gambling how many papers they can sell in a day to earn every cent back and then some. creating a system within a system--whereas the delanceys mold themselves into one that exists, again, to the elite's benefit--to survive.

and then, the newsies and their chosen family of brothers choose to revolt against their system in an attempt to dismantle it, or at the very least negotiate it.

and the delanceys' reaction to this, to another strike, to a group of kids going against their system (of which would benefit oscar and morris to join, tbh, unless they don't classify as "working kids" of the city, perhaps putting them at around 18 years old...)?

disdain and more snide comments! "not that i'm complaining, my skull busting arm could use a day of rest" "you working, or trespassing?/what's your pleasure?" and putting pressure on scabs to keep with the system- specifically more with uksies, oscar and morris are sort of dusting tommy boy off and whispering to him. trying to split apart the family the newsies have made with each other. and then ofc they beat the actual shit out of the newsies and in uk they have bats they are full on swinging, whole shoulder into it. you did not uphold this system, and it will destroy you for it.

and it nearly does, because then jack scabs, right? and oscar and morris are in pulitzer's office as the man talks jack through the deal, through the cash. as he must've to oscar and morris earlier that week about strike breaking the newsies. and all three of them all have these nearly matching bruises and cuts on their faces.

and then all three of them go to the cellar, the lowest floor of the elite. together the three of them are in this location with this context. two strikebreakers and a scab. taking the elite's money for their benefit, be it in a moment of fear, resignation, or greed. all the oldest kids in the play, the three who've seen the scars and rips and tears in this world more than any of the others. and for like twenty seconds of stage time jack oscar and morris are the same brand. until of course oscar and morris punch into jack's gut--since they're only "given discretion to handle him as they see fit" if he misbehaves, which jack hasn't, so they punch where people won't see/check--and remind him that he's still below them (literally shoving him to the floor ofc), that they're still closer to the elite.

and yeah, they are, because later, jack again refuses the system, and tosses the money back on the table after rebelling against his terms. in true foil fashion, once jack recognizes that his actions align that which he needs to destroy, he renounces them, while the delanceys remain on the other side of the coin they share with jack.

the delanceys, as a storytelling device, right, are meant to represent what the newsies could fall to, seen with the three initial scabs and then jack in act ii. they are this constant threat of sort of equal size to the newsies through the whole show, always kinda lurking. always being a possibility to become if the newsies ever forget what they fight for and against.

also, jack is....kind of.... like their dad, in their perspective. he's parental with the newsies, he leads them, guides them, and protects them, as well as constantly getting the better of the delanceys. why should someone like a father get to fight the system again? not on their fucking watch.

So the Endgame dilemma with Steve's decision had me thinking about other 'happy places' for Bucky and of course there's the obvious with Sam after TFWS but can we just for a minute think about Bucky maybe refreshing something nice from his time in recovery in Wakanda?

I found not a lot of fics but the thought of Bucky getting back there and kinda warming up with M'Baku again? This pairing just has something to me, especially with the whole grumpy but secretly subby White Wolf meets sarcastic domineering great Gorilla M'Baku...

Cain and Rire are rivals I think this is basically canon (based on Darqx's gorgeous art and animatics) but I wanna delve into it a bit! They're both incredibly powerful supernatural monsters, but their main difference comes down to this: Rire is lawful evil Cain is chaotic evil Cain kills people for purely selfish reasons: he wants to see human reactions and feel their emotions again. He thinks that causing pain will help him feel human. Rire kills people because its his job to collect souls. He loves his job and has a lot of fun with it, but in the end its still his job.

Cain is much, much older but Rire is way more mature

Cain is more powerful, but can't do much when he's stuck in Tartarus Rire is less powerful but has much more freedom of movement

Cain likes to play the long game, seducing victims with romance before going sadistic on them Rire is a busy demon; he likes to have fun but needs that soul sooner rather than later

He has two kids, Lune (pronounced like loon) and Sunny. He LOVES his kids and is actually a really great dad despite being kind of an ass and fucking annoying. He misses them a lot and it breaks his heart that he might not be able to see them ever again

Dr. Malpractice

He's a geneticist specifically experimenting with mob/human hybrids.

His experiments are NOT ETHICAL AT ALL!!! He does whatever tf he wants whenever he wants. His only healthy, surviving test subjects are Phil (enderman), Tommy (spider), Charlie (creeper) and Quackity (duck). (He also experiments on my sona,, that I added for funsies,, but they weren't created by him he just happened to find them one day more on that later)

He's actually trying to make humans more powerful in a way, because they're the weakest humanoid species of them all. He wants to "save" humanity from their own biological inferiority and doesn't care how long it takes or how much damage he causes to others so long as he reaches his goal. Because he's fucking delusional and thinks he's doing something good

He even experimented on his kid, Fundy, and he didn't make it. He has a,,, complicated relationship with what happened to Fundy. On one hand the guilt eats away at him constantly, on the other he brushes it off as just another failed experiment since in the long run,, the ends justify the means in his mind

So far his deceased test subjects include Fundy, Niki, George, and Toby (Tubbo). His only escaped subject was Randy (Ranboo) and he's so fucking paranoid that somehow he'd be able to get the authorities to stop his experiments. But it's been months since Ran escaped and nothing's happened so he isn't AS paranoid anymore, but he still worries about it

He names all the test subjects himself, it's easier for him to remember than numbers because he has dyscalculia funnily enough

All the test subjects were made in his lab with stolen DNA so he didn't have to use his own. He basically grew them in tubes and used a rapid growth serum in the tanks to make everyone adult sized since it was easier to run tests that way. He accidentally left Phil cookin for too long so he's the oldest out of everyone LMAO (except for Dr mal himself, he's 37)

Ok so onto the cringe part !!!! cSoda is a shapeshifter, shapeshifters are VERY rare and often hide themselves because they're very sought after to hunt for sport or used for various reasons. They're basically "born" from the planet itself, they grow in pockets underground for many years and kinda just pop up when they're ready. (Think of like. Steven Universe gems but organic) cSoda is erm undercooked let's say LMAO because they popped up early in their development they're basically defective. They age (albeit slowly), their body scars, they can't regrow limbs properly, their shapeshifting is limited to only animals/people they've SEEN before and they are incredibly naive and have a harder time understanding/learning about the world.

Dr. Mal found cSoda (no idea how yet) and he normally wouldn't have cared but he saw their shapeshifting and immediately decided to "take them in". He takes advantage of their naivety and basically brainwashed them into thinking he cares for them. cSoda presents as a dog (more lore I don't feel like getting into rn) so they have the personality traits of one as well, very loyal and loving and INCREDIBLY affectionate. Which Dr Mal HATES.

If it weren't for the fact that cSoda is more useful to him while alive he probably would've just killed them because he's CONSTANTLY annoyed and irritated by them LMAO he wants to be able to replicate their shapeshifting and hopes that it might be able to help him achieve his goal

c!Wilbur

He fucking LOVES working the burger van with Ranboo, it gives him something to do and he actually enjoys spending time with them even after initially not really liking them. He thinks Ranboo is SO interesting and loves to analyze everything he says and does pFF

HE FUCKING. APOLOGIZED TO TOMMY!!!!! FOR EVERYTHING !!! HE WANTS TO DO AND BE BETTER FOR HIM AND HAVE A BETTER RELATIONSHIP!!!! HE LOVES HIS BROTHER SO MUCH AND IS TRYING TO BE BETTER AT SHOWING THAT RAAHH

He fucking REEKS no matter how much he showers or uses deodorant. It'll help with the intensity of the smell but he just reeks of death bc he was rotting !!!! he also smells like cigarettes and alcohol which does mask the rot and is actually preferable by most people (especially Quackity, who's VERY vocal about how much Wilbur stinks)

Tinybur

He's REALLY clingy, like he NEEDS someone to be holding him at all times. Normally it's Tommy (who's so obviously his favorite even tho he denies it)

It doesn't remember being human for the most part but he does miss it, especially being a normal height

He HATES when people baby him, he's a grown man who just happens to be child sized. If you talk down to him he WILL be an asshole

It was surprised when people started referring to him as an "it" but he kinda liked it !! It doesn't have the same feelings about its gender since becoming a doll and he thinks it's kinda weird but cool at the same time. It really is just vibin

It's voice is high pitched and he kinda hates it, its gotten used to it but it doesnt really like how its voice changed

Animatronic!Wilbur

He's so fucking annoying and is always flirting with parents for whatever reason. He fucking LOVES if they get flustered too it boosts his ego

He's SOO jealous of Ranboo its kind of embarrassing. He thinks he should be the lead singer and mascot but doesn't vocalize it, although he does make it painfully obvious

He's the lead guitarist and back up vocalist in the band (Tommy plays keytar, Ranboo is lead singer and James is the bassist)

He's actually really fucking insecure despite being a fan favorite. One time someone left their phone and it didn't have a password so he was able to use the internet which was. A mistake. He's seen the horrors of the Beloved Ent. Fandom and he thinks people only like him because he was made to be the "attractive one" and not because he actually has anything of substance.

He fucking HATES Schlatt with a passion, so he avoids the bowling alley entirely now. Jimmy (solidarity) used to be the bowling mascot but he was too fragile and a push over with guests so they replaced him with Schlatt. Who's nice enough to guests but does have a bit of a temper and doesn't take ANYONES bullshit. Wilbur was actually really close with Jimmy and he misses him terribly :(

Okay I'm gonna elaborate on my "Charlos as Romeo and Juliet" take, I just couldn't shut up, I'm sorry akansksj

Don't expect anything deep from this long rant because it's just going to be a bunch of personal opinions on f1 ships and friendships, family-like dynamics (i'm a sucker for the family found trope ngl) and such, all badly taped together lol

SO the grid is more or less divided into two sides: the Hamilton-Vettel side and the Alonso side (I'm considering the current only, plus Mick, Seb and Danny).

The Hamilton-Vettel family: grid dads Lewis and Seb are disgustingly in love and happily married and Charles is obviously their child™, alongside Mick and George (I don't see him as their kid as much as the other two, but he's not that far, so). Other people included in this family are definitely Alex (Georgie's boyfriend and Charles's friend), Pierre (Charles's bff and Lewis's friend) and Lance (Seb's former teammate and pseudo grid kid and one of Mick's bffs). I know that Lance being here and not on the other side of the barricade could disappoint some people because of the 'good relationship' he seems to have built with Fernando (I saw your Strollonso propaganda and porn), BUT c'mon!! He's Mick's friend! He was definitely indoctrinated by Seb! He said his idol growing up was Michael (which might have single-handedly got him adopted by Seb lmao)! No way he's leaning towards Nando.

The Alonso family (single dad power!) is basically him and his kids: Max (he has clearly chosen him as his successor in f1), Lando (he loves him and Max and Carlos love him too, so) and obviously Carlos (we know all Spanish athletes are probably in a sort of cult, spanish solidarity is very strong, they have known each other since Carlos was a child thanks to Sainz Senior blablabla).

That being said, we are all aware of the not-so-simple relationship between Seb and Fernando and Lewis and Fernando and their whole decade-long history. This obviously causes some big trouble when Charlos fall in love and begin dating. Seb and Lewis do approve of their son-in-law (there are a lot of pictures of them interacting and they seem to get along pretty well - an example is the Barcelona gp and the whole chili bucket hat drama lmao), if Fernando wasn't there Carlos could easily slip into their family and be pseudo adopted even without marrying into the family (Carlos as Sewis's kid could make sense) BUT Fernando. is. there. and Sewis don't really approve of him, and viceversa - i'd say that he likes Charles, so the problem is always the same: their respective son's in-laws (I'd add that Carlos Sainz Sr is the one who doesn't like Charles very much, he probably sees him as a threat). Moreover I think that things between Lewis and Max might still be sort of tense, same goes for Georgie and Max, and other similar conflicts, so Christmas dinners with the in-laws won't probably be very pleasant in general (the risk of them easily turning into crime scenes is very high - there are knifes around). SO all of this means that Charles and Carlos are a bit like Romeo and Juliet!! They come from two different families which are more or less in conflict with each other (and the conflict can only increase as the championship goes on, especially with Fernando currently doing well and Ferrari being utterly shit, because the gap is getting increasingly bigger) but their love managed to blossom in the middle ground. Obviously it's not that dramatic, the two sides don't hate each other that much: it's not hate per se, it's more... some dislike? Complicated feelings for sure! I know that some drivers are friends with the enemy family (es. The Twitch Quartet), but it's all for the sake of the narrative lol Anyway the vibes are there!! And they're immaculate!! I haven't imagined how a proper and more elaborate Romeo&Juliet AU could work (yet), but the foundation would be more or less this. Something that would be interesting to reflect on is how the dynamics would change if the championship results were different (es. Ferrari were competitive), between everybody and especially between our Romeo and Juliet, but I'm digressing now

Bonus: what about the rest of the grid? Val obviously prefers the Hamilton-Vettel side, Checo would be on Fernando's side (Spanish speaker solidariety and all that, but his 'allegiance' is not that strong, I suppose he doesn't care that much, he's like a distant uncle), Oscar is actually Mark Webber's kid (and!! that's a story for another day, because!! Mark... and... Seb... and Mark and Fernando!! We all know things happened. But let's not dwell on that rn, it would be too complicated) so he'd better stay out of the conflict and Logan, being useless his friend, would probably follow him, so. I imagine Kmag and Hulk would more or less stay neutral (they've got their personal sUcK mY bAlLs MaTe beef going on so lol) and so would Nyck? Tbh I didn't give them much thought because someone like Yuki is much more interesting in this setting, since he is Pierre's bf but Fernando has taken a liking to him and kinda made him one of his grid kids, so he is in a peculiar position. But let's be real, Yuki doesn't give many fucks, so he is probably going to waltz from on side of the paddock to the other without a care in the world. Estie is interesting too: while he is Mick's other bff, he also has a love-hate relationship with Fernando. I believe that he is on the other side, still I don't trust him and Nando together lmao. I'm actually not sure about Zhou, he would probably be quite neutral, but I know he admires Fernando a lot (I admit I'm fumbling a little bit in the dark here lol but it's okay, I hadn't actually thought about every single driver, some of them I'm making up as I type).

The real wild card is Danny Ric, because he has known Lewis and Seb for years (underrated trio!!) and obviously likes George and Pierre and more or less their whole family BUT. Alonso has Max on his side. And Lando. So Danny's probably like the friendly neighborhood dog: he loves everybody and he gets fed like four times a day because everybody loves him and he doesn't really pick a side.

This is kind of a linguistics question but maybe it has to do with lore. I know tazercraft joke with richas about his portuguese and how they can't understand it sometimes, do you know why? Is Ricardao not fluent? Does he use different regional lingo? At first I thought it was a different admin but i think it's definitely Ricardao most if not all of the time.

^ this is not any hate at all towards Pac and Mike, I love them a ton and their relationship with richas is sooo funny, the way they all tease each other is adorable and so entertaining. I'm just curious about the context!

no ricardão is def fluent he's just awful at spelling lmao, and also my impression is he's from a different region of brazil from them. he uses "tu" a decent amount, which is the second person informal form while "você" is the second person formal, although most brazilians use it in informal situations today (similar to how most spanish speakers outside spain don't use vosotros and use ustedes instead-- same thing, wherein the formal version has become the standard and gets used informally by most speakers).

my understanding is using tu is pretty much only common in specific regions of brazil, like the two southern states (rio grande do sul (which is where cellbit is from, although he mostly has a paulista accent as we've talked about before) & santa catarina) as well as some of the northeastern states; map below from portuguesewitheli (+ the article linked gets into more details):

you also have to remember as well that brazil is a very large country, so regional differences can be pretty significant; i would guess ricardão just speaks a slightly different dialect of brazilian portuguese and maybe that's what they're teasing him about, but i couldn't say for sure as obviously ricardão has never said and i'm not familiar enough with textual differences or brazilian accents generally to say. i think mostly they're just making fun of him for his spelling and bc he talks like he spends too much time on twitter though

i'm assuming the rec they're referring to is this lovely post by @gogandmagog, to whom i must thank for unearthing this fic, lol. i wrote this chapter back in 2012(!!!) so unfortunately i don't remember what exactly i had in mind for shirley and pencil girl (love that nickname), or if i even had more of a story in mind. i don't see myself writing another chapter for arco iris (although never say never?) BUT i did have some vague headcanons and influences so i will share them!

anyway. what did shirley say to her afterwards? i didn't have a full idea for this in my head and i'm of two minds about it! i can see him just ignoring it because whatever, he's not interested in getting his name written up on the side of the schoolhouse and it's none of his business why Pencil Girl decided to, apparently, lose her mind one day after school. i can also see him being pretty straightforward and asking her about it and being completely embarrassed that she's sweet on him and again, having zero interest in getting his name put on a Take Notice.

either way, they both pretend it didn't happen for a few years, but Pencil Girl never quite gives up her little crush on him, and she and shirley grow to be friends in adolescence after he gets over being flustered by her existence. they exchange sympathetic letters during the war, maybe get into wacky adventures as college kids, and fall in love along the way. the end.

so, some background: this is very niche, but as a kid, i was very into the boy/girl battle series by phyllis reynolds naylor (which i also wrote fic for in 2012 -- maybe that spilled into arco iris?). i didn't do it consciously, but in hindsight, i think i was inspired by the dynamic between the characters wally and caroline. wally is the most introverted of his brothers, thoughtful and quietly imaginative, while caroline is an attention-seeking theater kid who drags wally into her mischief. they're both annoyed by each other because they're middle schoolers, but they're also both imaginative and slightly lonely because everyone thinks they're weird, and they find they (unwillingly) understand each other on that more fundamental level. anyway! it's not a 1:1 comparison, but i think i was imagining shirley/pencil girl from a similar place. we know shirley isn't totally opposed to mischief (see "well-deserved spankings" in RV) and while we also know he hates to be badgered with chatter per RoI, i was also picturing him as a bit matthew cuthbert-esque, where he doesn't mind exuberance as long as he's not expected to actually respond in kind (that's how i interpret "badgering", anyway).

i was also semi-influenced by the dynamic between kyon and haruhi in the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya, haha. obviously none of this is evident in that very short chapter, but uh, that's the backstory if you're interested, or if it gives an idea of how the rest of the story might go!

i also was actually influenced by the jenny penny section of anne of ingleside! i first read that book as a teenager and tbh i took the jenny penny section and all its judgment about Dirty Houses and Fighting Adults and Not Saying Your Prayers a leetle personally, lmao. i found the blythes pretty snobbish in that story* (this livejournal post is a pretty good summary of how i felt about anne of ingleside at the time). so i also had the loose headcanon of the blythes having to deal with someone a little socially inappropriate, who they wouldn't approve of very much. again, this was way too much to be evident in the actual chapter, but this is where the whole "girl who kisses rando boys in classrooms" concept came from, if you're interested.

anyway that's how shirley/pencil girl would've gone. hope this didn't ruin it for you, nonny, and thank you for reading ❤️

* i mean, upon reread, there are actual issues with the pennys: jenny is a more intentional liar than anne ever was, and the grandma makes di show her her underwear??? weird. but also jenny is, like, the lone realistically troubled child in a book of unusually twee children, and i found her surprisingly sympathetic for that reason. anyway. i had feelings.

bite the hand (chapter 7)

PREVIOUS CHAPTER

pairing: spider-woman!oc x miguel o’hara

summary: lorena's whole world was taken away from her in the blink of an eye, after she accidentally broke a canon event. lucky for her though, she was able to find a portal watch in her dimension and used it to get out before she glitched out of existence. unfortunately though, running from dimension to dimension, she's been named as an anomaly by the spider society. now, she's constantly on the run from them, their leader in particular. when she eventually gets caught though, she's recruited onto a mission to catch another anomaly who might be from her past. to her dismay though, her partner on this mission is her very captor. will she be able to stop arguing with him for long enough to get the job done?

info: enemies to lovers, maybe a slow burn depending on chapter count, oc is 24 and miguel is 27, both oc and miguel are super sad lmao, they're also both super violent so, they also hate each other what a slay, in regards to my oc you can read her character sheet right here

The antique shower head spurted out water in clumps as Lorena turned the dial on after calming herself down. She went to feel the temperature after letting it run to get warmer for a second.

Freezing cold.

She groaned to herself. Whatever, she thought to herself.

The bloody, sweaty, purple fabric stuck to her skin as she tried to peel her suit off of her body, almost if it was merging with her. It was all she new how to be now. Without a home, without a family, this was all her identity was at this point. A Spider-Man with no city to protect. Pathetic.

Once her suit was off, she was able to get a better measure of her injuries. The dried up blood connecting her skin together made it even more painful to move her leg and arm. She used the cold shower water to scrub off the concoction of sweat and blood on the bullet holes. Even though she normally hated cold showers, Lorena was just happy to wash herself off. This was probably the first time she had a shower in weeks, constantly being on the run. The past couple of weeks rolled off of her skin with the droplets of water. The dirt that had knotted itself into her scalp made its way down the drain.

After she shut off the water, she realized that the only clothes she had with her right now was her dirty suit. She just settled for the stained robe that laid sloppily folded in the compartment under the sink. She then filled the bathtub up with water, cleaning her suit with the limited amount of soap in the shower, and hanging it on the shower pole to dry.

Just as she was about to open the door to leave though, she paused. Right. It had been so quite she forgot he was even there. She didn’t want to look at him. Not after what he said to her. Not after admitting to what he did. Part of her felt bad for bursting out on him like that after he opened up to her, but she was too blinded by anger to care.

With the bathtub still wet, and her suit dripping into it, she gave up and just decided to sleep on the rug. She wasn’t sure of the time, but she was too worn out to stay awake, as she drifted to sleep on the uncomfortable tile.

A nightmare similar to the one a few nights ago disturbed her from her sleep, as the cold floor sent shivers through her body. Her reach for a towel underneath the sink for extra warmth proved to be in vain when she realized there weren’t any left.

Remembering how Miguel had found extra towels from the hallway connecting the main room to the bathroom, she quietly creaked open the door to make her way there. She assumed Miguel was asleep, so she was fine walking out there. Just as long as he didn’t wake up. She turned off the bathroom light before opening the door to ensure he stayed asleep.

Pitch black consumed the outside room. The tossing sound of the bedsheets was made by Miguel, sleeping silently. Lorena quietly made her way to the closet, using her hands to feel around the walls for the handle. As she worked in the dark, she kept her ears open for any sounds Miguel would make, signaling that he might be waking up. Once she found the handle, she carefully slid the wooden door open. To her dismay though, creeks and squeaks rattled through the room as she moved the door. She stopped for a second, her eyes darting over to the bed. All she heard was more tossing. She let out a breath of relief.

Instead of trying to continue to open the door, she instead stuck her hand inside the crevice she created. She whispered little curses under her breath as she wiggled her hand inside the closet.

“Would you just sleep in the bed instead?”

She froze, then sighed, ignoring him. She fully opened up the door this time, no longer caring about the noise it would make. “It’s big enough for the both of us,” he insisted again. “No, O’Hara,” she said, heading back for the door. Once she opened it though, the bright light of one of his laser webs shot past her pulled it shut. She whipped her head around to see his face, slightly illuminated by the glow. “Please?” he wished softly. She rubbed her face with her hands. The floor was uncomfortable.

She drowsily made her way over to the bed and climbed into it with her back turned to him. Even with Miguel scooting over to the very edge, his body took up most of the space. As much as she wanted to wiggle away and keep the space between them, she couldn’t get very far without almost falling off the bed. She had to admit though, the heaviness of the quilts warmed her up almost instantly. And it also helped that Miguel was basically a heater.

The both of them sat in silence for a while, despite them both being awake. Then, Miguel decided to break it.

“I’m sorry.”

It was weak, mixed with the drowsiness of his voice and the loss of previous charm and confidence.

“Me too,” Lorena repeated back after a while.

Silence again.

“You’re not a coward,” he said as if he’s been thinking about it since their argument.

“And you’re not a hypocrite,” she said back, even though she still believed it slightly.

…

“You were awake when I first opened the door, weren’t you?” she asked after some time.

“Yes. You were too?”

“Wasn’t tired.” Liar

A soft, low hm came from his mouth.

Lorena turned around to face him. “How about this. To get ourselves sleepy, I’ll ask you a question about yourself, and you ask a question about me. Ok?”

He took a moment to think. “Okay.”

“Ok, I’ll go first. What’s the deal with your suit? Is it a hologram or something?” she said quickly, as if she had been waiting to ask him that for a while. He chuckled at her enthusiasm. “Not exactly. It’s more of a molecular-nanotech sort of situation. It’s made so my claws don’t rip through the fabric. But no, it’s not made from fabric like most variants do.”

“Woah. That’s super cool,” she said in awe. “Okay your turn.” Miguel made a thinking sound as he sat. “Where’s your family from?”

“My parents were born and raised in Mexico, had me in Cuba, and then moved to New York after my aunt and uncle went there first.”

“That’s…confusing. But my mom’s from Mexico too.”

“But your last name…?”

“My dad’s Irish.”

“Ohhhhh. That makes sense.”

Their back and forth questions continued on for what seemed like hours. “Okay okay, give me a serious question now,” Miguel asked her, in the middle of a laugh. She took a moment to think to herself. “Do you remember those little kids on Earth-1732?” He gave a small nod. “The little girl…you seemed upset after I made a joke about you and kids. It was because of your daughter, right?” she asked hesitantly. He took a deep breath. “Yes.” They were both silent for a little bit. “How do you do it?” “Do what?” he asked, confused. “Keep going after losing someone like that. After seeing reminders of them everywhere you go,” she said, her face partially hiding in the pillow. “I assume you’re talking about Eddie?” She nodded.

…

“You don’t forget.” She looked up into his eyes. “You keep going by not forgetting them. By doing the things you know they would want you to do. And they would want you to keep going. By moving on, while still keeping them in the back of your head. It’s what I know Gabi would want for me…and I’m sure it’s what Eddie would’ve wanted for you.” Embarrassment flooded her body as she tried to hide the tears coming out from her eyes. “I just…I don’t know how I’m going to be able to face him again after what I did,” she said shakily through her tears.

What Miguel did next surprised her enough to get her to stop crying for a second. What were once muscular, dangerous weapons shifted into soft pillows as she was wrapped into his body in an embrace. She quickly hugged him back, tightly, and sobbed into his chest. He rested his head on top of hers as he felt her body shake beneath him.

Up until now, he had kept his distance whenever he saw her visibly upset. Previously, it was due to his detest for her. Then, it was due to her feelings. He feared. Feared that getting too close to her would end up in disaster, due to his suspicions that she still carried feelings for her past lover. But now, he didn’t care. Miguel just wanted to be there for her.

Her second round of crying today took up the rest of the energy she had, putting her fast asleep while still in his arms. Her soft, light breaths tickled his arm hairs, as he pushed a lock of her hair behind her ear. He even gathered the courage to give her a small peck on her forehead. “Que duermas bien mi querida,” he whispered softly to her, before quickly following her into slumber underneath the heavy quilts.

TTPD thoughts (under a read more because it's long)

There are no bad songs on this album (reread this point every time you want to scream at me while reading this), but I will be starting with my most "negative" (because none are like truly hateful, just "not for me" category of negative if that makes sense) thoughts and working my way to positive.

I think this is an album that is very Taylor and, in a lot of the songs on the standard edition, in a way that is not personally relatable to me. Like despite being a "I can fix him" girl (in general, not the song lmao) it is in a very different way than is on the album and the way that is on the album (the whole "you're all just haters so fuck off" at anyone who criticises you or your partner aspect mostly lmao) grates me at times, I won't lie. And as someone who listens and picks her fave music based on relatability, the standard edition of this album is quite low on my rankings because of that. Like it has high highs for me and I will talk about that, but the lows for me are arguably the lowest lows of any album from her and songs that realistically idk if I'm going to listen to unless I have all my music on shuffle and they come on. Like the standard album is very clearly into songs I love and songs that I find meh and could have done without, even if I understand why others love them.

"I wanna snarl and show you just how disturbed this has made me" Girl please make this album one day. I know you love your mainstream success but I promise I will find a way to stream it enough to keep it up. Like I know a lot of people feel that this is that album, and I recognise (and appreciate) that that is because of the bluntness on certain topics, but as I have said about people who call this album weird (affectionate), mainstream disturbed/weird and regular disturbed/weird are two different things and I truly live to see the day that Taylor goes all out ngl.

I won't talk too deeply about who each song is about because again, I mostly listen to music for relatability so don't really care, but I will say that I think that far less of the songs on the album are about Matty as what people are making out. I think a mixture of stereotyping, PR over the years and the deliberate vagueness of the album has some of ya'll automatically assuming that drug mention = Matty. Realistically I genuinely only think that (from the standard version) fresh out the slammer and i can fix him are about fully about Matty with but daddy I love him being a mix of an idea rather than a person (first half) and Travis (second half), the alchemy being about Travis and the rest being about Joe in a way that is deliberately vague/obscured to make it sound like it could be about Matty.

As a related note to that, I think that the two most interesting things about the standard edition is the way that she consistently refers to her longest relationship as a short time and the way that she deliberately muddies the songs so that it's difficult to tell if they're about Joe or Matty as a way to show 1. that you can't really tell one story without telling the other and 2. If everyone is being honest, both the beginning and end of both of those relationships were very similar, and not in good ways at that. And I say that without judgement because people are people and no one is perfect you know? But these two aspects really make me want to like the standard edition more than I do because 1. I think her referring to her time with Joe as a short but impactful time in the grand scheme of things is among the most mature things she's said about a relationship and particularly stands out among the deliberate childishness spoken about and shown in certain songs and 2. without giving tmi, the idea of not being able to tell one love story without another because they are so intertwined, even if they don't seem related on the surface, is something I relate to deeply with two past encounters of mine. But the differences that are there just aren't for me.

I have seen others say that they wish that we got the story of Joe and Taylor's last two years together rather than what happened over last year, and in many ways (and obviously in the most "I know I'm not entitled to it, it's just my preference way") I agree but this is what we got so I'm going to focus on that without the expectation of something else. Like I will not let "what I wanted more" ruin what we've got because what we got is still good and I've fallen down that rabbit hole before and just made myself miserable.

Taylor implying or otherwise rolling with the thought that there were no gel pen songs in the standard album is so goofy (affectionate) because girl, I can do it with a broken heart is right there lmao.

I feel something, but I'm not sure what, about her use of 'manic phase' in the prologue, 'asylum' in who's afraid of little of me and seemingly (we will circle back to this when the music video comes out but given the other stuff I think it's safe to assume) asylum imagery in the music video as a response to people's criticism. It is a very mixed feeling and I am still trying to figure out how much of the bad comes down to this fandom as opposed to it objectively (because like it's clear that mental health is a main theme on this album and I don't want to discredit that) because as I have spoken about before, this fandom cannot be normal about sensitive topics to the point that I'm not scrolling until hype for this album goes down.

Ironically enough given the history of jokes/comments I and others have made, I do think Florence got the better feature and wish Post Malone got a more upbeat song and larger part lmao.

Much like how I liked the 3am edition of Midnights more than the standard version, the bonus 15 songs are the stronger part of this album for me this time too. Where the standard felt like a mixed bag of meh and amazing with no in between, the bonus tracks all felt good to amazing and with the exceptions of maybe I look in people's windows and so high school, are all songs I could see myself listening to consistently. I also don't think it's a coincidence that most of these songs are Dessner songs because out of her consistent producers lately, he has definitely been my preferred one lmao.

It also makes me very excited for debut and reputation's rerecordings because it's clear that they're on her mind.

I'm likely going to make a separate post about the songs individually, but a friend who brought a different edition told me today that the manuscript feels like the actual end of the album and I agree completely and so was glad to see that despite not putting all the previously known about bonus songs back to back (which is a super interesting choice and while I don't think we'll get it, I'd love an explanation for that and why these songs were specifically chosen for physical media!), Taylor still chose that as the closer. It also sets my heart on fire as a RED girlie lmao.

As per always, as a physical media girlie, I do hope that we get a cd/cd set with all the songs at some point lmao.

As of right now my favourites (no psychoanalysing me given I said that I listen to music based off of relatability tho lmao) are the title track, my boy only breaks his favourite toys, so long London, who's afraid of little old me, loml, I can do it with a broken heart, the smallest man who ever lived, the black dog, imgonnagetyouback, the albatross, Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus, I hate it here, Cassandra, Peter and the manuscript. And like I said, at least most of the rest of the bonus tracks are ones that I could see myself listening to frequently as well so that's like 2 albums worth of music for most artists nowadays and I am definitely not complaining at all despite any other feelings I have towards this album lmao.

Anyway I'm sure more will come to me in time, but right now that's where I'm at, especially because it's almost midnight here lmao.

their whole first scene really is a masterpiece.

he woke her up on a saturday morning !!! expected her to be ready in five minutes, then has the audacity to complain about queequeg. i can't with this man, he's too funny

(mulder hating queequeg is hilarious. because he's a dog person, but the kind that thinks big dogs are real dogs and small dogs are rats. and personally i think scully loves ALL dogs, especially ones others don't like or want)

them looking back at queequeg sitting so nicely in the back seat and he makes THIS face them

he's just a little baby (waiting for someone else to die so he can have his favorite meal again)

but anyway.

scully's whole speech cracks me up every time. mulder is a SUCH a pain, but she doesn't question the case until they're already driving in the car for who knows how long. she loves taking queequeg with her. she loves that pup but she also loves annoying mulder as much as she loves their verbal spars.

"it's not jurisdiction that i'm questioning mulder...what are you leaving out?"

scully KNOWS the x files now, she knows mulder's game. this is a toned down fight club scene cuz they don't flirt like that yet. and literally why is he like this!!! he can never just tell her, he wants her to interrogate him lol

i actually really love this about them. mulder did this right from the pilot, and eventually scully yelled at him for keeping things from her, hindering the investigation by keeping her in the dark. she outright asks for his trust twice (i think?). and he still doesn't fully trust her for a while, but i think scully makes her ethics very clear, and that she has more of an open mind than she seems to. she just still thinks ~science will have the answers (and like...she's not wrong. even when mulder is right, they can't prove it without her science). and the more they get to know each other (and LIKE each other & trust each other) it really does become a game. mulder can see how her mind works, and then when she finally has all the information, scully can call him crazy and all is right with the world.

(scully is the only person who can call him crazy and he genuinely loves it. because he knows — because he learned it's affectionate — it doesn't mean she thinks any of less of him, and that she'll ignore his theories. she's just gonna make him work for it because he has to, to get what he wants. and scully will still be there by his side searching for the truth with him every step of the way.)

just a note: i'm kind of surprised she lets dr. farraday talk to mulder the way he does. although i think she might have some similar feelings, she absolutely thinks the x files are worth it and they've already seen some incredible things science didn't have answers for yet. even if at first it was only about what mulder said to her in the pilot — why does the fbi label the cases "unexplained phenomena" and ignore them? she's seen enough to know the x files are important and they do actually make a difference to the people they (try to) help.

i love this little bit of insight into child dana because what a nerd!! she worships the sea her father sailed on and she believed in mythical creatures and learned about them. even some more obscure ones. and she actually loves entertaining his notions and some friendly ribbing: (i love her she looks so soft here)

AND THIS. i can't help but think about deep throat when the woman in the diner starts telling him about ufos & he buys the picture. sucker. i swear she has the same exact expression on her face: (can't find the exact moment but)

(did ansel manage to get ANY good pictures of mulder & scully? come on dude they're so photogenic and they have the perfect opportunity to take them — and in these outfits!!)

(these kids obsessed with drugs, too funny. i love that they bring them back a few times)

(it's like rush hour yet they didn't even try to actually show that lmao)

REGARDLESS OF WHAT I BELIEVE THERE'S NO EVIDENCE OF WHAT YOU BELIEVE.

mulder, my girl, you HAVE to show her the evidence. well, find the proof lol she won't believe without it and you actually need it!! he's so silly. i love his theories.
