Still my Queen
“I spent my life in foreign lands. So many men have tried to kill me, I don’t remember all their names.
I have been sold like a broodmare. I’ve been chained and betrayed, raped and defiled.
Do you know what kept me standing through all those years in exile?
Faith. Not in any gods, not in myths and legends. In myself.”
– Daenerys Targaryen
It was not her fault that she spent majority of her life in foreign lands. It was the consequence when her father, Aerys, was overthrown by the usurper Robert Baratheon.
It was Robert who ordered assassins to kill every last one of the Targaryens to hold firm his sit on the Iron Throne.
It was her brother who sold her to the Dothraki in order to take control of a great army that can help them recover their claim on the throne. She watched Viserys die as he received the melting golden crown.
It was Khal Drogo who raped her on their first night of marriage. She learned his language, culture and tradition. She loved him and he loved her. She bore his child, Rhaego.
She became the Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea.
It was the witch, Mirri Maz Duur, who deceived her into bringing Drogo back to life at the cost of their son’s life. She burned the witch alive when they lit the funeral pyre for the body of Khal Drogo.
She stepped into the burning flames and emerged with three dragons.
She is the Unburnt. She is the Mother of Dragons.
It was Jorah Mormont who attempted to poison her. She learned later on and sent him to exile.
It was Xaro Xhoan Daxos who betrayed her. She locked him and Doreah in a vault in Qarth.
It was the warlock Pyat Pree who chained her and her dragons. She ordered her dragons to burn Pyat Pree alive.
She conquered Astapor, freed Missandei and the Unsullied.
She conquered Yunkai and commanded the Second Sons.
She conquered Meereen, freed the slaves and crucified the masters.
She is the Breaker of Chains. She is Mysa to the Meereenese.
The Sons of the Harpy rebelled against her. The Dothraki captured her.
She emerged from the flames and burned Khal Moro and his advisers.
She gained the worship of the Dothraki.
She fled to save Meereen from the rebellion.
She gained the trust of the Greyjoys, Olenna Tyrell, and Dorne.
She sailed across the Narrow Sea with the Dothraki, the Unsullied and her 3 dragons.
She did not attack King’s Landing right away. She listened to the strategy of Tyrion, which unfortunately cost them the Greyjoys, the Dorne and the Reach.
It was Jon Snow who introduced the enemy to the North and persuaded her to help.
She chose Jon Snow. Viserion died.
She chose Jon Snow. Jorah Mormont died.
She learned about the true identity of Jon Snow. It broke her into pieces. Her dream crumbled into pieces when she was an inch away from getting it.
She began to compare herself to Jon. She began to doubt her ability to win the hearts of the people. She knew that Jon had better claim to the Throne and he also had the support of the people.
She cannot process her emotions, the fresh knowledge of the truth, and the fact that she has sacrificed almost everything for nothing.
She brought justice into her own hands. She acted impulsively before anyone can learn the true heir to the Iron Throne. She needed to save her title and claim.
She lost Rhaegal. She lost Missandei.
Her world fell apart. She has no claim to the Iron Throne. She was left with only one dragon. Her good advisers were gone as well.
She is alone.
Now tell me.
You are sold to a stranger, raped and defiled just to support your brother’s goal. What will you do?
Your husband died and someone told you she can help, but ended up tricking you, causing the death of your child as well. What will you do?
Someone vouched for you but then betrayed you in the process. What will you do?
Your most trusted friend stabbed you in the back. What will you do?
You fell in love, you risked your life for him, and you postponed your ambitions for him but nothing in return. What will you do?
You learned you had no claim on your ambition, which you spent your whole life earning. What will you do?
Your closest friends had sacrificed for your claim and left you alone once you’ve earned it. What will you do?
Why do you hate her?
We had bad times. When we have the baddest of times, we forget the consequences of our subsequent actions. Are you proud of it?
We experience loss. Losing track of our career. Losing touch with our loved ones. Losing the will to live. It makes us feel depressed, in distress, and helpless. At times we blame ourselves and mostly, we blame others. Are you proud of it?
Come to me if you are as clean and rightful as Jon Snow.
Daenerys is one of the most realistic characters in Game of Thrones.
Daenerys is not mad. She held her temper cold and long enough. For a character who have experienced all this nightmares and have gone through all the trauma, Daenerys turned out to be a symbol of justice and hope to everyone with the same distress.
She had endured the tough times, but when she reached the very bottom, there was no one to lift her up. Her action in the penultimate episode is hateful, but Daenerys, wholly, should not be blamed and hated for it.
