So another update about the whole "who is Calam Lynch playing on "Rings of Power"" thing as we're still getting 3 different things now from the fan sources. Hopefully with the promotion from Amazon starting within the next couple days we'll start to get more info but it is getting confusing as we're getting so many different things now from sources that were mostly right about season 1.

So the latest is that "Rings of Power Updates" Twitter/X account got word from their source again that Calam is only playing the Annatar version of Sauron and that he is not Celeborn. They're also saying too that Celeborn never was cast for season 2 but likely will show up in a later season. Then the chemistry test between Morfydd and Calam was only so it matches the chemistry between Galadriel and Charlie's Halbrand/Sauron since it's still Haladriel.

Fellowship of Fans and the other accounts haven't posted anything about this yet to refute it. FOF was the one that said he's Celeborn only, while the other accounts said that he'll be both Celeborn and Sauron pretending to be Celeborn so he can get back into Eregion.

I know a lot of fans are going to be upset if these happen. Personally I'm starting to think maybe it is true that Calam is only Annatar and likely won't be on the show past s2 as every source has said Charlie takes back over the role for the rest of the show. I can see them doing Sauron pretending to be Celeborn too but that could also be a made up "leak" to anger the so called "fans" who hate the show anyway and give a bad rap to us Haladriel shippers. This is the only spoiler I've seen so far where it's so widely different between the fan accounts, as everything else so far matches for most of them.

So again while one of these are likely true we can't really know until we start getting trailers and official spoilers from the cast/crew and the US media. Thankfully that is starting over the next couple days so we'll get a much clearer picture of what's coming but fans need to prepare so they aren't as let down if what they want to happen doesn't.

I gave it a whole season with an open mind but Rings of Power is just... bad.

The writing is just bad. It’s all just so Intro To Creative Writing. I don’t even care about Middle Earth lore so I don’t mind any changes. What bothers me is if you’re going to adapt something and then change it, you’d better be changing it into something good. Instead, we got ALL the cliches. The fact that every episode I would guess the cliche line I was about to hear and then there it was, but I would still be stunned because I couldn’t believe they were THAT lazy, THAT obvious. I’m not exaggerating here, I literally made a joke several times and then one of the characters said the same thing but they were serious! The dialogue is flat. The characters are the most rote tropes. They think they have to spell everything out to their stupid audience (”You’re not Sauron! You’re the other one!”). They have the characters do random stuff or neglect to tell each other stuff not because it’s in character (lol) but because it makes a WHAM moment later (that falls flat because it’s so obvious).

Look, I’m pretty genre savvy, but I am not the only one who guessed how this all was going from several episodes ago. I knew it was Gandalf from episode one. I knew who was Sauron for several episodes. My mom is a big Tolkien nerd and kept saying “But that doesn’t make sense! Because in the lore-” and every week I had to remind her that these writers aren’t following lore and they don’t seem to care what makes sense, but they’re still easy to predict because of all the tropes and borrowed story beats.

The way they cut through travel made the world seem incredibly small. Then all the flip-flopping to drag things out because they’re bad at pacing; in Numenor, in the Southlands, with the dwarves, they decide things and then suddenly it’s undecided because they need more time. The absolutely garbage lines like “the elves are stealing your jobs” or “I’m GOOD”. The constant pulling of lines from the source material and putting them out of place, which is annoying for two reasons, first because it’s unearned but also because the stolen lines are the only good dialogue in this mess.

The casting of non-white actors in completely tokenistic roles. The fact that the harfoots are mostly white and are played by average sized actors. The fact that they have a few non-white actors and then cast white actors for their family members (Nori and her mom, the queen of Numenor and her dad) which just screams “we want it diverse, but not too diverse”.

And yes, Girlboss Galadriel who is peak perfomative feminism akin to W*nder Woman and She-H*lk, mass produced girl power with none of the depth or grit. Galadriel who is one-note in all of her motivation, who comes across as embarassingly stupid at times because it’s more important for her to be brash and stern. Writing out her husband in a random throwaway line because she couldn’t want to go out and fight while also being married or a mother (something so many weird defenders of this show seem to think means the opposite of what it is, like wanting her to be married and have a kid and still be out doing awesome things instead of becoming a tradwife is the ANTI-feminist view, and as if there’s a scarcity of single young action girls out there). The “I’ll never join you!” conversation with Sauron. Randomly just telling people to “trust her” instead of being like, “Yeah that was Sauron” so he can come back and screw stuff up later. Why? Why? Because they need her to, that’s why. But why, in-character would she do that? ~Don’t worry about it.~

Basically everything about badboy Halbrand, the Kylo Ren of Middle Earth. But especially his Jason Bourne moment in Numenor and the whole cringy “reluctant king” story. The one woman in town who wears color because she’s the Main Character. The sweet girl getting too close to Gandalf and he accidentally hurts her and she shies away. That may have been the worst one. Made me shout “I am not a gun!” because my goodness, these writers. They just steal everything. Every single twist was artlessly telegraphed and stolen from something better. A few times, this worked. The Stranger was predictable from the start, the dwarf storyline didn’t do anything particularly groundbreaking, Arondir’s star-crossed romance was incredibly bland. But the characters were fun to watch and the actors did well with the parts. It’s just unfortunate that, where a few of the characters managed to elevate the sea of cliches surrounding them, the majority just coasted on the surface.

This is giving me Star Wars Sequel vibes, even though I’m not a LotR fan like I am a Star Wars fan. It feels like plastic. It feels like they thought of everything but actually making a show worth watching. This show won’t be a classic, it’s just another revenue source. I don’t know if I would be this harsh if it were some small production and an original story. But for the money this cost, the fact that it’s so bland, so uninspired, so absolutely lazy is honestly insulting. I’ve seen so many lower budget fantasy stories with a hundred times more heart and brains than this. The bottom line is this: Amazon had all of the money to hire all the talent in the world and they’re giving us this??? The gall.

“Look at me, (y/n).” She shook her head, not daring to meet his eyes, scared that he’d realise how much power he truly held over her. Her mind was racing, caught in a loop, with Galadriel's voice ringing in her ears. Perhaps she was oblivious, perhaps she was stuck in an obsession, but perhaps she was simply in love.

In love with a man who had lied to her from the moment their paths had crossed.

“Don’t you want to be with me? Don’t you want to be by my side? Through it all?” Halbrand stepped closer, one step after another that brought him towards the trembling woman. “No? Are you sure about that?” Once again she shook her head, gasping as she felt him push her body, tumbling as her vision grew blurry.

“My darling, so perfect for me.” Her heart was racing, eyes meeting his darkening ones. (Y/n) was kneeling before the naked man, hands wandering up his thighs to reach his twitching cock. Halbrand’s moans filled the dark room, the only sound her mind could focus on as she parted her lips for him.

“Everything for you, my lord.” No further words were spoken, body and mind working without holding back, not listening to the uneasy feeling simmering inside of her. His cock rested heavy on her tongue, the taste of him stuck to the muscle, a taste she was all too used to by now.

Halbrand’s hand found her head, guiding her bobbing motion. His cock disappeared down her throat, forcing (y/n) to gag around him. A sound so raw, so pure, the man felt his every conscious thought slipping.

You were destined to rule by my side.” It was just above a whisper, nothing more than the words the breeze of Valinor would murmur, nothing more than the gentle wind stroking through the trees found in the western parts of Middle Earth. And yet it dripped with something she couldn’t put her finger on.

Was he lying to her once again?

“Let me go.” (Y/n)‘s voice trembled, shaking with every further word she spoke. Even though deep down she knew that there was no escaping him, tied to the man by the love she fostered in her still racing heart, she tried to escape, fingers buried in the soil. Halbrand didn’t let her move from him, keeping her close to relish in the heat that radiated off her.

“You will come with me. You won’t leave me.” And with another push she was once again caught in a past moment.

“Oh god, don’t stop, please. I love you.” (Y/n) cried the words, fingernails leaving crescent shapes in the flesh of his shoulder. Halbrand fucked her with ferocious thrusts, hips meeting hers over and over again.

He fucked her with no mercy lingering in his body, set on claiming her, set on reminding her who she belonged to.

“Fuck, feels like you were made for me.” His words left her moaning, eyes fluttering close, set on holding onto the feeling he pushed through her. A feeling she’d never get used to. Her mind was caught in a trance, focusing on his every touch, the marks he kept leaving on her body.

The body he had started to call his many moons ago.

“You can’t tell me that you want to let this go.” Her body was burning up, fighting against the exhaustion pushed through her system. Halbrand had her trapped, chained to him with a silent threat spoken into the afternoon air.

“Why? Why did you lie to me?” Tears kept rolling down her cheeks, tears of exhaustion, tears of confusion and tears of anger. Tears he caught with his thumb stroking her skin, set on drying them one by one.

“I had to. We wouldn’t have this, if you had known of my identity, would we? Oh, darling.” Her eyes fell shut as he pulled her into his chest, lips pressed against her forehead. Her tears soaked through his shirt, staining the fabric that had carefully been crafted by skilled fingers.

“Do you remember what I told you the first night you gave into my calling?”

“Let me love you, till the last star on Middle Earth’s sky burns out. Let me, please.” Slow thrusts pushed her further to the edge. Halbrand had his arm slung around her, slowly fucking her as if they had all time this life was offering them.

“Please, don’t ever stop loving me.” (Y/n) moaned against his lips, teeth grazing his lower lip. Whatever had tied them together as their eyes had crossed for the first time, still had its grasp on them.

She felt her high arise, burning through her veins like the fires that would alight the sky whenever celebrations were held. And yet this moment was by far more intimate, more loving, more thrilling.

One last thrust gave her the final push her body needed, forcing (y/n) to cum on his cock. Her walls clamped down on him, keeping him close as the feeling filled every vein of hers.

“Join me, like you were destined to, (y/n).”

What you need to know going in:

Written for HW's Day 5, "Family," this fic is yet another canonverse masterpiece from Cat, seeing Galadriel reuniting with Celeborn after S1—and a desperate, angst-filled, steamy reunion with Sauron first. 👀 When Gal finds Celeborn again, he’s changed so much since they last saw each other… and, of course, so has she—most notably, being with Sauron’s child. What’s remarkable about this story is the characterization of Gal, Sauron AND Celeborn; I can honestly say that despite being ten thousand percent IN on Sauron and Gal (and trust me, this fic delivers everything about them in spades), I cheered so hard for Celeborn in this. The dynamic between him and Gal was just as spectacular as the undeniable spark between Gal and Sauron. Instant classic, indeed.

Still shaking myself after reading this fic. 🔥 This AU sees a young Galadriel in a very rural Maine in the 1870s, helping her family run a general store. It’s there that she first meets (and catches the eye of) Halbrand, a rough, quiet logger. It’s no secret that I’m a fan of @mortaltempless’ work; I’ve highlighted their work many times here, but this HW fic really hit me; it soothes. In it, Sauron struggles to understand Galadriel as she struggles with waxing and waning depression throughout the Ages they spend ruling together—but tries, genuinely, to help her. This fic works like a balm to the soul for it’s simple beauty and stalwart love in the face of sadness; of longing. It feels very Tolkien in that way, and for it’s emphasis on the healing power of nature. 😍 Be ready to bookmark, because this is one you’ll want to regularly return to for the sheer romance.

The WIP That Will Wreck You (In the Best Way): one thing i can’t get enough of ~and~ on begged and borrowed time by @bad-surprise

What you need to know going in:

Am I cheating by mentioning two of @bad-surprise's WIPs? No, because these are my recs and I do what I want. 😆 Keeping it 💯, I honestly couldn’t choose; they’re just both that good! The first, one thing i can’t get enough of, is the Dirty Dancing AU, featuring a mean-ish Halbrand in the role of Johnny and, of course, Gal as Baby. Do I need to say much more aside from these two and the words dirty dancing? 🔥🔥🔥 Better than the movie and it’s not even complete. ☺️ Fic 2, on begged and borrowed time, is another massively compelling AU; in this, we see Galadriel as a gifted tarot reader with a desperate desire to bring her husband, Celeborn, back from the dead… desperate enough to strike a bargain with the Necromancer and her former lover, Halbrand. 👀 Like I said—impossible to pick between these two, because they’re both terrific as hell, and they’re just getting started.

The ROP fandom summarized:

Before ROP aired: Pffff This show looks like crap short haired elves what is this bullshit????? I WILL NEVER LIKE YOU. I mean, the effects look cool, but everything else can go to HELL.

Episode 1+2: You know what, Elrond looking kinda cute with short hair. HE DESERVES EVERYTHING also love Durin and Disa. Cant stand this Halbrand guy I am here for Gal why would I care about him. The Harfoots are cute too.

Episode 3: Yoooo Numenor looks amazing. Miriel is THE QUEEN. Also, could Gal please be a bit nicer to Halbrand god she is so annoying.

Episode 4: Alright, whoever this Adar Guy Is, I don't care. We should focus on more important things like: WHO IS SAURON guys, come on we can do this! Also Elrond is the best.

Episode 5: OK, so I was wrong, I apologize Adar is great. Still not convinced that Halbrand will have a good story arc. MORE SAURON THEORIES COMING UP. Also for some reason the older elves are growing on me goddammit. Galadriel is growing on me a bit. The Harfoots are still cute.

Epsiode 6: So I was fucking wrong about this show being bad. Adar is amazing why is everyone in this show so amazing????? Elendil and Isildur give me life. Is this show really making me ship Galdriel and Halbrand? well, I guess I have no other choice. I am starting to realize that I care more about all of these characters than I thought I would. That KISS I need it framed and hung in the louvre. "AND THEO" I AM SCREAMING!!!

Episode 7: boooo not enough Halbrand. Everything else was great, tho. Celeborn!!!!!!! This show is giving me the feels you guys. If Berek does not save Isildur I will riot.

Episode 8: OMG STEP ON ME SUARON. I DONT CARE HOW MUCH EVIL YOU DID I WILL BE YOURS!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. I am a supporter of the BI Sauron agenda. Celebrimbor was amazing. The actors are all great. THIS SHOW IS GREAT. Nori and Poppi deserve more aaaaaaa.

About Me:

I’ve had quite a few new followers these past few weeks, so I thought I would make a little about me post, just so you all know what you’re getting into.

First off, hello! My name is Madison (she/her), I’m 19 (will be 20 in January which is. . . something I’m not thinking about at the moment), I’m bisexual, extremely liberal (racists, misogynists, homophobes, transphobes, etc. can fuck off and die), and I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. My favourite thing in the world to do is write, and I love to read as well.

Star Wars

I love every movie, and every TV show (I was admittedly not a fan of Andor, but I’m so happy that so many people loved it so much!), and I’m working through some of the canon novels

This is my first fandom, one of my first loves. No matter how deeply I fall in love with other things I will never love them like I love Star Wars

Marvel

Favourite Characters: Natasha Romanoff, Loki Laufeyson, Bucky Barnes, Wanda Maximoff, Kate Bishop, Jennifer Walters, Steve Rogers, Carol Danvers, Sylvie, Marc Spector, Valkyrie, Peggy Carter, Yelena Belova, and many, many more.

I love every movie and TV show (to varying degrees, but nonetheless) but my favourite movies are Endgame, Infinity War, No Way Home, Eternals, Winter Soldier, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Ragnarok (not necessarily in that order), and my favourite shows are Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Loki, Werewolf by Night, Hawkeye (not necessarily in that order)

I also very casually read Marvel comics (just a few here and there whenever I find some that pique my interest)

DC

Admittedly, not nearly as much as Marvel. There isn’t a lot of emotional attachment. Honestly it’s bordering on contempt at this point, especially after spending money to go see The Flash in theatres

But I love The Batman, Wonder Woman, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, the Dark Knight trilogy, Harley Quinn, and Batman (1989). I am cautiously excited for many of their upcoming projects under James Gunn’s leadership

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is my all-time favourite comic book and honestly just one of my favourite books of all time. It’s truly a beautiful work of art.

Lord of the Rings

I’ve seen all three movies and 2/3 Hobbit movies, and I’ve read Fellowship of the Ring (planning on getting to the other two soon). I also watched and absolutely adored The Rings of Power.

My favourite characters are Éowyn and Aragorn, but I love Merry, Pippin, Legolas, and Gimli too. And Galadriel, Elrond, Durin, Elendil, Miriel, and Halbrand in TRoP

I’m admittedly not the most well-versed in LOTR, but I do really enjoy it.

A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones:

Don’t even get me started on those goddamn shows. Seasons 7 and 8 of GoT and HoTD infuriate me on a daily basis but goddamn it I love this world so much. Westeros is so important to me

Hey, I hope you have a great day :) Thanks for updating your fics so regularly, I enjoy them a lot!

I read your last post regarding fics and the fandom, and as fic writer myself, I have to agree. The fandom was at its height shortly before, during, and after the reveal of 1x08, and now I feel as if it has cooled down. There are the "regulars", those who read new fics and comment, but there are less kudos and comments every time I post a new chapter. It's a little bit sad, and I wish there were more people still staying.

Of course, the hate the tv show got / gets and the rumors regarding season 2 / some actors certainly don't help matters.

Anyhow, thanks for giving so much to the fandom :D

My day is going awesome so far! I hope yours is, too! You're welcome! And thank you, too! My obsession knows no bounds and will not cool down, so y'all just gonna have to live with that. There is no place my mind won't go with this ship. In between writing I've been trying to go around and read some more fics myself, but I admit I have more time for one-shots and haven't been able to really immerse myself in too many multi-chaptered pieces just due to time constraints, my own writing time, and real life in general.

I knew I couldn't be the only one who noticed the severe drop maybe like a week and a half after the finale aired. People were fired up when he was just Halbrand, and then I remember when I would make my posts about him potentially being Sauron, some people would get upset with me and send anon asks that weren't always too friendly. I never answered them out loud because I just didn't see the point. On one post, I said, Are you gonna be there with me when this tag becomes Sauron/Galadriel? Because it’s gonna happen. It’s gonna happen. And a lot of people are going to be jumping ship like, “I didn’t sign up for this!”

A lot of people flooded my inbox after that about how distraught and upset they would be if that happened. So, people have definitely left the fandom. I know we're still here like, "Them being enemies makes it spicier!" But I had people commenting on my posts and messaging me about how disgusting it was, how could I still ship it, comparisons to Reylo, and lots of crude comments about "how can you ship such a trash/abusive ship" etc. The amount of people that were coming for me after the reveal despite the fact that I was still shipping it made me feel like there was a huge divide over that.

Of course, my thoughts on shipping are ship and let ship! So, anyway, I'm still here. And I ain't going anywhere!

Haladriel Week Day 2: Missing Scenes

(recycling old material)

Summary:

“There were few materials that Halbrand had not worked with in one way or another. As a former Maia of Aulë, the master of craftsmanship, he had studied the elements of the world and learnt how to bend them to his will. During his time in Arda, he had never come across a material that could not be reworked into something more useful, more beautiful, more perfect, until the night Galadriel asked him to braid her hair.”

Two days before the Númenóreans set sail for Middle-earth, Galadriel comes to Halbrand with a request. They both try to keep their attraction under control. Neither of them succeeds.

Excerpt:

Her waist-length locks tumbled down her back like a waterfall of silver and gold, glimmering in the flickering light of the lantern on her desk. She kept her gaze firmly fixed on the bandaged hand in her lap. He did not know how her practice session with the young Númenórean recruits had ended with her having to use her hand to block a training sword mid-swing, but he suspected that she had most likely prevented a careless kid from getting seriously injured. Elves were sturdy, but they were evidently not immune to broken fingers.

Halbrand briefly closed his eyes, forcing back a surge of anger. In two days, he would be on a ship full of Númenórean soldiers who had volunteered to go to war on behalf of the long-lost King of the Southlands. Galadriel had destroyed his disguise as an unassuming smith’s aide, and he could not afford to lose another one, no matter how badly he wanted to break the jaw of whoever it was that had harmed his Elf.

He really needed to stop referring to her as that.

“If I am asking too much of you, please say so,” she said, misinterpreting his hesitation as discomfort. “You can leave, and we will never speak—”

“I’ll do it,” he said, picking up her comb from the desk. Hands like his, callused and darkened with soot that not even the luxurious soap of Númenor could wash away, did not belong anywhere near something as beautiful as Galadriel’s hair, but she had granted him a privilege that he simply could not resist. Halbrand tentatively ran his fingers through the locks, finding no resistance at all. She had spent the entire day on the training grounds, yet her hair was still softer than silk and more pliant than any metal that he had ever brought out of a forge. Galadriel let out a barely audible sigh and closed her eyes, tilting her head back. His impulse control nearly cracked when he gathered her hair in his hand, revealing her slender neck and her delicately pointed ears. There were so many things that he wanted to do to that pale skin, and none of them were even remotely appropriate for a soon-to-be king.

His life had been much simpler when he was still Halbrand of the Southlands; the smith’s aide who occasionally lost his temper after a few pints of ale.

Elrond Angst Snippet #1

Description: You and Elrond meet once more on the decimated plains of Mordor.

You took no pleasure in knocking Elrond to the ground, your sweet Elrond, the man who put his trust and heart in your hands so willingly.

He coughed and stayed down, looking up at you with an unreadable expression that tugged at your heartstrings, and made the rations you ate earlier fight to come back up. The taste of ash and smoke fills your mouth, your eyes blurry with tears, both enraged and mournful.

If only he had stayed in Lindon, or Khazad-dûm, somewhere he would have been safe, but no. He followed Galadriel here, to the ruins of your homeland. Now he was bruised and beaten, laying at your feet.

“There’s a Southlander saying, I’ll spare you my native tongue, and say it to you in Common. Much water shall flow beneath many bridges before I forget you.” You said, leaning down, to meet Elrond’s eyes.

He was laying in the dirt, clothes ripped, skin covered with ash and blood. His chest rising and falling rapidly, as he looked up at you, endless grief in his oakwood eyes. “Why would you tell me this?”

You glanced up to see your master still locked in combat with Galadriel. “I do not wish to kill you Elrond, you have a place in my heart no one else can fill, but I cannot let you interfere.”

“Sauron will kill us all.” He said, voice strained and raspy, from the smoke.

You knelt down, slamming your fist against the ground next to his head, an uncontrollable rage surging through you. “You still do not understand, we are trying to fix it, fix everything he has done. It is penance, reparations, but we cannot do so, if the elves are always in the way.”

“We will always fight to preserve the light in the world.” There was a fire in his eyes, and you wished he would see reason, and go home.

You grabbed his breastplate, hauling him up slightly. “There will be, you must give us time, Adar has to be defeated first.”

His arm comes up and weakly tucked a lock of your hair behind your ear, fingers lingering on your cheek. “There is still time, my starlight. Return with me, fight against him.”

You closed your eyes, tears spilling past your lashes. “You know I cannot. I have bound myself to his mission, I will see it through.”

The sounds of war cries, and horses filled your ears. You both looked up and Elrond grasped your arm. "Stay with me, my heart is still yours, do not leave it here.” He pleaded, his lips brushing against yours.

“Y/N, now is the time to retreat.” Halbrand shouted, breaking away from Galadriel and running back towards Mount Doom.

You rested your forehead against Elrond’s breathing in the faint scent of him underneath the ash. “It will take much for me to forget you, and the way you have made me feel. That is the meaning of the saying.”

You gently released him, and got to your feet, blinking back tears as you ran after Halbrand, too afraid to look back, knowing if you did, you’d never be able to leave Elrond again.

Rings of Power, Ep. 7 Review - RIP

I’ve made it this far...Buckle up, mellon. Time for my thoughts on episode seven:

1. Dang. Everyone survived. Whelp, except that guy whose name I neither remember nor care to remember.

2. Wait, they SURVIVED?! Heat alone would do the trick, but pretending they survive the heat, that’s not snow they’re walking through! The ash would finish off anyone left! Look, LotR doesn’t have the best history with believability when it comes to volcanoes, but Rings of Power keeps professing it is meant to feel grittier and more realistic. So much for that, I guess.

3. The scene where Durin begs his father to help Elrond is actually poignant...and it makes me angry. Here’s why -

Lore/book reason the dwarves awake a Balrog: they were too greedy and dug too deep.

RoP reason the dwarves awake a Balrog: Durin is desperate to help his friend.

Writers, do you not see how thematically misaligned and stupid you are being?!

4. So now we know how the mithril cures the darkness. Apparently you just sit beside it. Wait, that begs the question, why do you even need to mine for mithril? Couldn’t the elves just book a mithril session and hang out int he caves for a bit? Totally cured.

5. Miss Pro-Genocide Galadriel gives a lecture on goodness and letting go of revenge. HA. That’s rich! Have we seen literally any evidence of a mind-change or reason she grew between the last episode and this one? Psh, no. Why would we need such a thing?

6. I actually found the scene where Miriel realizes she’s been blinded quite decent, as well! Amazing! In an ACTUAL display of strength (not whatever fake nonsense we’ve seen the women display prior), Miriel must maintain composure and pretend she can see so she can be strong for her people. They actually did something good?

Don’t make me laugh. The next time we see her, she’s wearing a blindfold, not hiding her blindness in ANY way. Apparently she only needed to fake being strong for a short horse ride.

7. When the heck did they have time to set up camp? At least the show is consistent. They’ll always fail to include what’s actually relevant.

8. Apparently we need to waste time worrying that Isildur, the incredibly vital character from later tales, is dead. Great use of time. Proof upon proof upon proof of the ineptitude of the writers.

9. Galadriel finally said her brother’s name! Her primary motivation, and it only took 7 episodes for his name to get dropped.

10. Celeborn DEAD?! They had me going for a second. But no. Clearly gotta come back (Galadriel says he went away to war and never returned). Still, super stupid. Brother motivates her but apparently couldn’t care less about her hubby. Also, she met Celeborn because he came upon her dancing? Seriously? You couldn’t give them their own meet cure? You had to steal Luthien and Beren’s?

11. Durin is going to mine all the mithril by himself? Great plan, dude.

12. So are we supposed to dislike the dwarf king? Because I don’t dislike him. Mining mithril is not safe. Period.

13. Cool burning of harfoot carts, but unclear how many perished. Unfortunately, I think they all survived. Alas.

14. SIgh. Bronwyn survived, too. Also, watching her fling her arms around her son’s neck reminds me that she was shot through the shoulder the day before. Healed up nice and dandy, apparently. Also, she’s awfully clean for someone that went through a volcanic blast.

15. I laughed the hardest I’ve ever laughed in this show when Nori’s dad gives his brethren a pep talk. He says the harfoots, better than anyone else, “stay true to each other.” I CACKLED. Harfoots stick together? The same harfoots who wanted to leave you behind. Who wanted to take off your wheels and leave you to die. Who didn’t offer a single ounce of assistance when you were injured. THOSE harfoots?! (The laughter continued when harfoot who proposed murder is declared “always right.”)

16. Halbrand survives to show his pretty face another day. HIs wound is infected and he must be gotten to the elves!

Oh wait, he’s fine. Walking around like the wound is nothing. No? He still needs immediate aid that will require a very long horseride? Okay...

17. I know they’re shooting for Disa sounding inspirational and supportive of her husband, but to me she just sounds straight up evil in that speech at the end? SHE sounds greedy and possessive and manipulative. Definitely don’t think that’s what they were going for...

18. Ah. She we’re not just changing greedy dwarvish motivations to helping a friend, we’re adding that a leaf woke the Balrog. What is this, Kung Fu Panda?

19. The introduction of Mordor’s name made me roll my eyes.

Just one episode left. Just one. The end is in sight. (Yes, I know they’ve started filming season 2).

Fellowship of Fans didn't have any scoops today but instead they posted 6 of the actors their sources are telling them are the standouts so far for season 2 of "Rings of Power" and excitement for their storylines!!! :D Posting behind a cut since it includes previous spoilers. FOF's tweets are in quotes while my thoughts are right below it but making me even more excited for s2.

"Adar (Recast) Sam Hazeldine We have been hearing particularly great things about Sam who despite the recast has made the role his own now with even more threat. Adar is a big part of this second season."

This fits with a lot of spoilers and from what we've seen about why Joseph left as they've expanded Adar's role far beyond the few episodes Joseph originally signed up for in season 1. Really excited to see what's going to happen as Adar seems to be a major character in season 2 and now that Halbrand/Sauron is back.

2. "Celeborn - Calam Lynch Just like we said in a similar thread we did for S1 where we stated internally that people thought Ismael had star potential and could be the face of the show, for season 2 we have heard the same things but this time for Calam Lynch."

Now this one I'm not so sure about since Calam actually wasn't able to film for most of season 2 due to a play he did in England. I don't think he'll actually have that much screen time as he only filmed for a bit last fall, took months off for his play, and then came back in late May/early June when filming wrapped. They could spread his scenes out but he's also still only recurring for s2 and not a regular yet. But could be this source means that the screen time he does have will be memorable and setting up for s3.

3. "Sauron (Charlie Vickers) Charlie Vickers foremost loves the lore and the books and we have heard that he has been particularly good in transitioning his performance from a more comedic/rogue- like performance in season 1 to a more serious and threatening character style."

Then this one I expected. We knew already season 2 was going to be Halbrand/Sauron centric from the post-finale interviews with the showrunners and Charlie. So many of us are really excited to see Charlie fully play Sauron and go full villain so that's going to be great to watch.

4. "Nia Towle (Heyla codename) Not much has been revealed about Nia Towle’s performance at except the leaked picture but we have heard that she is a terrific actor and delivered with her role this season."

Nia's character doesn't have a name yet but since she's been pictured with Maxim's Isildur and as a human woman there's already speculation she might be his future wife that was never given a name in the books. So I'm curious to see how this plays out.

5. "Markella Kavenagh (Nori) Markella was great in season 1 and we have heard this has translated to season 2, but we have heard that she particularly cares about the quality of the dialogue and has been vocal about it."

I also expected Markella to be here too with Nori's storyline of leaving her family and exploring the world for the first time with The Stanger. There's a lot of mystery surrounding this storyline and she was part of the filming in Spain that likely will be for scenes in Rhûn.

6. "Robert Aramayo (Elrond) The reason we have included Robert Aramayo on this list is because he loves the books to death and was particularly upset with the reaction to season 1 (as a whole) and is now very serious when on set and in character (before shooting) so he can deliver the best performance when the cameras roll. Though it’s been clarified it’s not at the level of a method actor but he wants the best for the show and is very passionate which translates to his acting technique."

Then finally Robert made the list but unlike what FOF wrote I had a feeling Elrond's going to get more storyline too especially with the confirmed 2 episode battle that supposedly is happening to end the season in eps 2.7 and 2.8. Elrond's never really faced battle and war now but will with this and that likely will change him as he struggles with it.

Answering five weeks late, but yes! Thanks for the ask, and I hope you see the answer.

6. What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?

I don't know, sorry! I don't think anything I come up with is particularly angsty (Lulu is shaking her head at me right now.) Maybe because I can always imagine a happy or happy-ish ending.

8. Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share?

Some here, here, and here. I've talked about lifetime movie sex (it has roses!) before, which I definitely want to finish. One day.

Also a continuation to the Atar verse, in which Galadriel brings Halbrand to Eregion, convinced he's Sauron (he's not in this). The real Sauron is tied up in the corner (being Gil-daddy's baby and all - this story would be smut) and steaming. Probably starts talking about how he knew Sauron in Almaren and Halbrand's not Sauron, not nearly hot or smart enough, SNL Kylo Ren Undercover Boss style ("I heard the real Sauron had an eight pack"), till Gil shoves a pacifier in his mouth. Would also include something about the tRoP Adar. So many imposters, poor Sauron!!!

On the gen-ish side, a story in my head that's known by the very boring name of Sad Celebrimbor Fic, which would be a prequel to Bones in which Celebrimbor is sad and moping in Valinor after his rebirth. Some worldbuilding, Celebrimbor meeting relatives, getting in catty academic fights, and discovering Aman's romance publishing industry, writing some of his own (thinly veiled expies; he refuses to acknowledge this). Sauron would be very present but never mentioned by name or explicit acknowledgement until the very last few sentences, when Celebrimbor thinks his name, curls his lips, and leaves for brunch and daydrinking.

Also answered here, but I am nothing if not a hater! I mentioned found family in that ask, but I'll expand on that more because the way it's written in fanfic (pan-fandom) often makes me genuinely uncomfortable - so often toxic or outright abusive behaviors are presented as healthy and desirable. I'm all in favor of toxic behaviors by characters in fanfic, but I like the author to know it, you know? I have some thoughts about how this manifests in this fandom in particular, but won't go into them in the interest of not being too negative or verbose (this post is long enough!) - hit me up in private if you want thoughts (throwaway account fine! I have tumblr dms open to all, though I can't promise I'll respond immediately because I don't check tumblr daily and am gone from it for several day or week periods at times).

Actually, on the last bit, I have anon asks enabled and I'm so sorry that if anyone without a tumblr account wants to communicate with me privately they no longer can through that. But if you do have an account, even if you don't use it, anon is cool!

“Halbrand?” she cautiously dares to choke out.

“Halbrand’s not here right now,” his grin is mean, but his eyes are glassy and reflective of the horror in her own.

“Pity, he didn’t have an heir back then.” Sauron casts a nod towards the scroll rolling into the river.

“I suppose a dead man can still pass on his name.” She’s so busy watching her evidence disappear into the river, the elf doesn’t notice the human’s hand coming around her windpipe.

It’s a Maia’s strength that makes her fall.

“Dead-ringer,” she savors the word, rolling her hips as he thrust up into her. “I’m not the one who just said they’re fucking a look-alike for their mother.”

One would think that would be a shocking statement or a lethal insult. Instead, his lips just curl, and hands dig into her hips with enough force to bruise, slamming her down harder onto his cock.

“Do you want to stop, Mommy?”

When they were children, they had played house on her father’s country estate in Wales.

(Lord Sauron preferred child-free holidays. Had preferred to not remember he had a daughter, an arrestingly lovely woman now that could become a coveted treasure if shown off too much in the papers.

He preferred if she was kept isolated, with her brother as her keeper. To remain like a little girl, who was still content to play house with the boy she had been raised with.)

“Don’t you dare, Daddy.”

Their parents didn’t know it but they had never stopped playing house. After all, wasn’t that what they wanted? For neither of them to grow up?

“You can call me Narvi if you wish,” he says quietly, returning to his task as if he hadn’t just granted a rare privilege.

There was something lurking behind the set jaw of the Crown Prince, one didn’t need to have keen eyesight to see that.

Isildur doesn’t feel the need to ask why the elderly dwarf was so reluctant to relinquish the task to his son. Sure, the King was willing to have him pour out the dirty water.

Narvi’s face was stoic in the task, but there was a mutinous gleam in his eye.

(How his hand seemed to pat at his side each time he set down the empty metal basin could have been confused for a nervous tick.

But, as the ritual concluded and the small dwarf prince helped the elderly High King stand, Sauron swallowed the question he wanted to whisper in Durin’s ear.

‘What have you got in your pocket?’

It wasn’t much of a riddle.

But, power was a game that Sauron had seldom tired of. It was sacred and of immense antiquity, and even wicked creatures were afraid to cheat when they played at it.

Yet, there were beings with good hearts who sometimes realized that the only way to win, was to resort to less than honorable means.

I'm adding new tags to this fic for this chapter since I fully wasn't expecting to have lite ABO dynamics in here-they're heavily implied, but not explicit (e.g. I never use the terms Alpha or Omega, or any of the typical parlons). Excerpt:

She moved on to the next room—a bedroom, and found the four-poster bed a mess. The room itself was plastered with floral wallpaper that seemed far too feminine and vintage for its current inhabitant. A pair of Levis with a brown belt with a metal buckle still threaded through the loops lay discarded on the hardwood floor—as did a few basic crumpled t-shirts, and three flannel shirts—each in different colors.

Anticipation started to itch at the back of her brain and her nose, the point on the back of her neck throbbing almost painfully, but she muscled through it. Gail took the thick red plaid shirt from its perch on the back of a beanbag chair in the corner of the room and lifted it to her nose. Spicy cologne, deodorant, and cedar—probably from having to hike all this way, and something else that smelled warm, inviting, and… delicious ? Gail recoiled, pulling the shirt away from her nose to scowl at it in disgust, before huffing a sigh and pressing the warm flannel to her face again to place the scent. It smelled like breakfast.

Gail licked her lips and raised the shirt to her nose again.

It wasn’t unfamiliar.

She knew who this scent belonged to and she could almost feel their mouth on her neck.

“Fucking shit,” she growled in frustration at the annoying coil twisting up her insides. It made her stuff the shirt into her pack and moved to the closet. There, she found a few folded pairs of jeans, two nice shirts, two nondescript black suits, and a wool camel jacket. She felt her entire body lock into place. It looked just like the coat Hal had worn last night.
