Here is a disconnect in America:
those who have been misguided to be proud to have joined the military (bc they were too poor to do anything else)
And those who don't recognize the brainwashing and poverty and misunderstanding it as privilege.
It is not a privilege to join the military. Idk who taught you that but it's something most people would like to avoid.
Not trying to say everyone who joins and is an asshole is worth your time. I'm just saying keep in mind that you may be going for who is seen as a disposable pawn in the eyes of the military.
Every since the draft was suspended, there has been a LOT of manipulative tactics to push people to sign up. From propaganda to incentives like education - which IS a privilege in America - to pretty much brainwashing through media. Even worse if you come from a Military Family, especially if it dates back to the revolution (daughters of the revolution for example).
Those who have been engrossed in pride in being military are so disconnected from those who see the American military industrial complex for what it is. Instead of trying to reach one another they're just immediately offended by one another's audacity to be confident in themselves.
Practice humility. Understand why one is the way they are and you may have better conversations that are more productive to expressing and exchange of ideas and perspectives. Attacking someone who is already confident in themselves doesn't make an impact. Encouraging them to ask questions they haven't before will. And you can only do that if they trust you.
