Hi, Sarah! Just checking in to see how you've been doing post 6x06, and sending a hug as well. I'm still pretty devastated. It's like this thick heavy blanket over me that I can't shake off.
Oh Tara, it's been a week, huh? My feelings are all over the place, I swear I've been going through the stages of grief over here? Sending you a big virtual hug right back! 💙
I was absolutely shocked by that last scene - I'm pretty sure I stared at my TV in stunned silence for 10 minutes after, just trying to process what happened. It's wild, because I was so nervous about a potential break-up, but I kept rationalizing all the ways it just didn't make sense... only for them to throw the most in-character break-up possible at us.
I hate it, it hurts, but to quote our girl:
I'm so curious to see how this all plays out. They've done a phenomenal job with their storytelling this season - I'm not sure if it's the abbreviated season or what, but it very much feels back to basics, very character-driven, and the continuity has been really great to see too. So I have to (cautiously) trust the process here, and I'm hoping the pay-off will be worth these bumps along the way!
I want this to empower both Lucy and Tim, delve deeper into them as individuals, and allow them to come together again in a meaningful way - for good this time!
I think my previous fandom nightmare experience is coloring things for me, because my brain keeps jumping to worst case scenarios, even though the rational side of me knows that everything's going to be fine - better even - in the end. Chenford is a massive contributor to the show's success, and they know it, so taking a sledgehammer to that is just bad business.
Everything is going to be okay. 💙

Oh, wow, I kinda feel the landscape is pretty broad. Over the summer there were a ton of undercover fics speculating on S5. We have a lot of established relationship, a lot dealing with their current relationships on the show (Chris and Ashley). But there’s everything in between, too. I say just write whatever inspires you! When we thought we were getting a Chenford dance in S3, I think we all wrote a dance fic, but they were all different takes and it was fun to read them all. 🙂
thanks! i think the half minute i skimmed the then front page of chenford fic on ao3 last season, my immediate impression of the landscape was what you mentioned with reaction and speculation fic mostly placed in canon. i'm overly analytical, so it's just helpful for me to get a sense of what's happening on the fanfic side of this fandom.

If you haven’t seen it or read it, it’s not copying. Using a beloved trope - and it bothers me so much how often I’ve had to clarify that in recent years - is NOT copying. Copying is copying and nothing else. Write whatever makes you happy, anything else is a chore 😉
😊 thank you! i usually agree with this. i'm just scared of writing for this very established fandom now after my initial attempt during seasons 1-2 didn't really take/never really happened. i don't want to be that person who writes a very specific wedding planner au or whatever when there's already one out there with the exact same plot from an established and beloved author in the fandom. i'm hoping my ideas are enough of an AU that they won't be carbon copies to anything out there.

First of all definitely feel free to write whatever you want, if there’s a trope that’s popular it’s popular for a reason! But I would say that there aren’t so many AU fics and also not a huge number of E rated fics if you wanted to do something within one of those categories!
thank you! this really helps a lot. i'm considering some AUs, so hopefully if i ever get around to writing them, they will be sufficiently different but still a nice addition to the thousands of chenford fic out there.

Do you read fanfics for Chenford? Can you share some favorites??
I sure do! Oh goodness, this is such a tough question because there are so many talented writers in this fandom and I don't want to leave anyone out, but here are some of my favorites!
Okay first off, I am terrible at bookmarking fics on A03, so I'm inserting a screenshot of my favorites list from Fanfiction.net- a lot of these are older ones, so if you want some pre-canon Chenford awesomeness, I definitely recommend!

Happy Chenford Secret Santa @theawkwardanglophile! I am a huge fan of your work, so I wanted to create something special for you. Your prompts were super interesting, and I ended up combining the first two, so you get fake dating and visiting long-distance family members. I adjusted Tim's backstory, mostly because I wanted them to go somewhere snowy, you know, for the vibes.
Since this is way past Christmas, I hope you have a very happy and chenfordy 2024! Which here, is in a couple hours. It was an honor to be your Secret Santa this year.
Summary: When Tim finds out his ex wife is visiting his family for the holidays, and bringing her new fiance, Angela comes up with a brilliant plan. But will Lucy and Tim's pent up feelings end up ruining Christmas? Or will they finally accept how they feel despite their fears?

I absolutely do! It's truly so exciting when someone takes the time to comment on my works. I want to share my appreciation and be able to interact with the fandom.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Honestly, I don't think any of my fics have angsty endings. I try to end each story with at least so semblance of hope or happiness.
But I guess 'I can't love you in the dark' was pretty open ended and a tad angsty.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably (A not so) Cruel Summer because that fic ends with Lucy having met Taylor Swift, Tim taking the time to learn her favorite song so he can sing it to her as Taylor plays it on stage, and her getting 4 tickets to The Era's Tour, so...
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I don't! And I'm so beyond grateful for that. This fandom has been overwhelmingly kind and supportive of each other. Getting so much positive feedback on my first story is what gave me the confidence to keep writing, and I'm forever grateful for that.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Uhh...the smutty kind?😅 Yes, I do, but I don't really have a kind. I just write the sex scene as I see fit.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
No. Truly no offense to anyone who does or enjoys these, they've just never been my thing.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but I would be honored.

No, but I'm open to it!

I'll never say never, but the updates for Something New are pretty slow going at this point.

I hope dialogue and my ability to add humor where it's needed.

My confidence and desire for my work to be perfect, and the frustration I feel when it isn't.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I think it's perfectly fine, but I'm not multi lingual enough to attempt it myself.

Aging myself here, but The OC.

Saw this idea elsewhere on tumblr and wanted to play.
How to play: Post the names of all the stories in your WIP folder. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! Then tag a few folks to keep it going (or consider yourself tagged if you're reading this).
