hi kin !!
just a random question but… how do u pronounce ik’s name? :0 bc in my head i’ve always read it as “ick” 😭
(sorry if someone’s alr asked this/u addressed it before 😭)
this is the first time i've realised i really don't have a set pronunciation for it either..... in the beginning i think i just read it like you would an acronym (the same way i assume you'd read mc), but nowadays i think i read it as more of a 'kei' sound
since i first came up with the logic for why ik gets called that in-universe (her birth name is yi ke (乙可), which an english speaker might read as IK), i've also been calling her a-ke (阿可) and also little ke (小可 (xiǎo kě)) in my head too
(i like to think zhao turned the little ke nickname into 小蝌蚪 (xiǎo kēdǒu) to call her 'little tadpole' when she was little)

Hi, can you do a concept for platonic haytham kenway from assassins creed with a reader that isn’t a templar and just a civilian.
I'm not done with the game but I did do some research! If anything is out of character, my apologies, I can fix it if I need to. I do like his character a lot!
Yandere! Platonic! Haytham Kenway with Civilian! Darling
Assassin's Creed III
Pairing: Platonic
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Overprotective behavior, Manipulation, Stalking, Murder, Indoctrination, Threats, Violence, Blood mention, Stalking.
Tumblr media
Haytham is a bit hard to see platonic, but it can be done.
He did have a son (even if he thought of killing him for his beliefs) so he has some sort of paternal love.
He'd probably feel platonic care for a fellow Templar.
Although... a civilian?
Haytham seems like the type of guy to care for someone who has importance to him.
He's actually rather arrogant to those he feels are lower than him.
He'd probably meet you by chance.
Maybe you helped him somehow (knew a little about the artifacts, helped him find a target, healed a wound...).
He brushed you off after, not caring about you status.
Yet he does compensate you for the help.
Point is, you'd have to prove useful to him as a civilian to kickstart his obsession.
After that he decides to keep you in mind.
You've earned his gratitude... perhaps you aren't just some civilian.
Haytham's feelings take awhile to form.
He keeps in mind where you reside and watches over you.
For some reason you keep occupying his mind.
He wants to see you safe in return for your aid.
Safe to say you are under Templar protection.
He isn't sure why...
But the idea of you falling into Brotherhood hands disturbs him.
So he'll do whatever he can to prevent that.
You won't know but Templar members are all around your area.
They are assigned by Haytham to report to him about your well-being.
These feelings are not romantic... more like a close friend or parental figure.
He feels as a reward for your help... he will teach you the ways of his Templar ideals.
He waits until he's ready to take you in.
Haytham feels you two can be closer this way.
If you are around his age he'll teach you as a dear friend.
If you are younger than him then he'll teach you as though you are a child of his.
Haytham sees you more than a civilian so while he talks to you he is softer and kinder compared to his arrogant behavior towards you before.
Granted there's still some arrogance but he's willing to give you a chance.
Haytham invites you to a meeting and you have no idea what it's about.
You helped him once... why does he wish to meet again?
That's when he reveals his fanatical beliefs plan.
He wants you to become a Templar.
He's dripping with charisma, saying how the Brotherhood will harm you for helping a Templar out.
He manipulates you with threats.
You have no idea what choice to make.
It isn't until he says one thing that you decide to at least be in compliance...
"After this meeting I could always kill you for not accepting my offer. You'd know too much."
To keep you in line he doesn't mind threats.
Even if you aren't entirely with the Templar, he's happy you at least comply to being at their aid.
Haytham doesn't care if he has to kill those around you or threaten your death either.
Sure, he cares for you.
But killing your family and friends makes you reliant on him...
Plus, fear is an emotion you can use to get people to listen to you.
He's a terrifying yandere both platonic and romantic.
Normally platonics are softer than their romantic counterpart.
Not the case with Haytham.
He's intense and cruel in both ways.
He kills for you, blood on his outfit, and he smiles.
Smiles because he knows, deep down...
You feel guilty for getting others killed.
Your kindness is easily abused as a civilian.
Which lead to Haytham dragging you into the order against your will.
He comforts you when you feel upset about the murders.
He says it's for your own good.
It's also for the good of the Templar Order.
Haytham cares for you and even shows paternal love towards you despite what he's caused you.
He says he cares for you.
But does he really?
You may never know for sure.
All you know is you've been dragged into a hole you can't dig yourself out of by Haytham.
If you aren't careful, he'll make it your grave.

😏 If you'd indulge a girl and one of her many rarepairs for a bit, could I request something with Sparrow and Nicky?
Tumblr media
Thank you for the ask and happy to indulge!! Did some doodles based on my ramblings below ;)
Sparrow and Nicky Rarepair ideas -----
Adult Sparrow is stress crying after a fight with family member (could be any)
Anyways, long time ago (kid/teen) Sparrow said to Nicky that it was so cool how he could just portal into the oak-garcia household (because doors are silly obstacles his parents use to keep him and his bro away from fun weaponry) and Nicky has never forgotten that, often shows up at random on weekends to spook and/or hang out into adulthood
SO, Nicky portals into the kitchen and this time he's spooked that Mr. lovewolf is already in the kitchen, bunch of papers strewn about the room
He's usually in the home studio/office (drawing) or the livingroom (watching stuff/napping) or out in the garden….
This time though all the half-demon hears is sobbing, friend barely even looks his way--mumbling something about: "I'm sorry I'm like this, I don't want to be a-a crybaby about every little thing and ugh this is stupid. And I forget you were coming…"
Nicky wants to comfort him somehow. In my mind, Nicky is more a physical comfort type of person--less likely to whisper comforting words and more likely to sit down with Sparrow and have the lovewolf do a breathing exercise to the beat he's carefully tapping on the messy kitchen table (he's a drummer, guitarist, and probably plays other instruments also because he refuses to only pick one)
After Sparrow's calmed down and rubbing at his eyes with a cardigan sleeve, he laughs.
Nicky looks curious in response, not appalled/unnerved (sometimes Sparrow does laugh/giggle out of anxiety and it tends to get judging looks but not with Nicky…never)
So Sparrow tiredly smiles and explains that "Hehe, I finally scared the one and only badass Nicky Close-Foster and I didn't use a spider spell to do it"
Nicky elbows him softly, then does it a little bit harder when certain little horrific beings are mentioned. Sparrow laughs more and smiles real big this time and Nicky finds himself smiling back.
Maybe Sparrow shares what he was upset about or Nicky talks about his adventures in hell, faerun, or at a gig? Either way, they end up huddled together on the worn down couch with an assortment of wildly colored quilts and tea, maybe a scented candle or two and spend the rest of the time creating a playlist together and trading song recommendations
Nicky has many places to go and a certain few he thinks of as home. Being in the oak-garcia house chilling out with sparrow is for sure one of them. ----- Next idea is for younger years! ---- OTHER IDEA
Teen sparrow really likes wearing the wolf ear headbands and those keychain raccoon/other animal tails but its against dress code at the school so he keeps getting scolded for it!
On the other hand, Jodie and Morgan are pretty strict about when and where Nicky can have his horns/wings/tail out…school is 100% a no, Glenn is pretty lax…like they've gone to amusement parks both full demon appearance (assumed to be fancy costumes) but…when school is brought up, frustratingly also no even for troublemaker rockstar hell dads apparently...
The two kids are pretty bummed out about not being to be how they want to be…and (hear me out) start some sort of after school costume club so Nicky can have his cool demon stuff out and proud and Sparrow can be the lovewolf!
Also, I like the thought of them going to conventions and concerts together? Could be fun. They aren't dressed as any particular character in the doodle (vague costumes) Or sneaking out to mini adventure in the woods or on faerun (or hell), after a few incidents, they'll sometimes have adult supervision, mainly Glenn, Daryll, Henry, or Walter Erin may begrudgingly watch over them if they happen to cross paths too I feel like Jodie probably knows they are sneaking around most of the time? but only really says anything if they get are about to get into danger

can i request itachi having feelings for a female anbu captain(where shes also a hyuga and a master of gentle fist+ created her own jutsu at a younger age.) and just a few months before the uchiha massacre, she becomes a rouge ninja after a family issue that she had? then itachi is surprised to see her in the akatsuki when he first joined. i hope this isnt too much!
Itachi X Reader | Rogue Hyuga Fellow Anbu Leader
Tumblr media
Itachi Masterlist
When you both were in the anbu you didn't exchange words very often until this one time, when you both were put in the same team. You first hand got to witness his famous skills and it will be an understatement to say that you were a huge fan.
For him he observed how calm you are in the worst situation which obviously made you the compatible team leader. Plus he acknowledged your skills too.
After that missions you two were close to being friends. Although it is forbidden for anbu members to be friends or anything close to that. So you both kept it a secret.
You loved spending time with him because your household was way too strict and it is tough for you to be level headed with them since your principles are way too different. He somewhat helped you with that. Plus you both had the same principle in most cases.
But things never got better. For them you were just another member who did exceptionally good. You were never really appreciated for all the things that you've achieved at such a young age!
Also, they hated the fact that you hang out with someone from the Uchiha clan that often and they were really mean to him too. You were kind and gentle person with a good heart and whenever this used to happen you'd feel so embarrassed to be a Huyga and would genuinely feel bad for him because every time he took it lightly. He always just smiled and walked away. He understood the differences in clans and so did you but that doesn't give anyone a right to behave like this to him!
But this one time it happened again. You couldn't take it and you talked back to one of your clan member. It obviously resulted in a big deal.
For the first time you told your family how you felt and how being a "Huyga Product" wasn't IT for you! You were a person with a individual personality too!
But the moment they discarded this as a "idiotic behavior", it broke your heart and you felt trapped there. And the moment you heard "should have invested that time in your brother." That was it for you.
You finally understood that for them the training the nurturing behavior was just an "investment".
Without giving it a second thought you left the village and that is when you came across Akatsuki. You knew very well that now no one will believe you if you went back to the village and told them the story so you joined the Akatsuki, so that if not stop them, you can slow them down a bit.
When he saw you at Akatsuki:
To say that he was shocked was an understatement. It was clearly visible on his face. You were shocked too but a little relieved because you knew he could never do anything of that sort to actually hurt the village that he loved so dearly. But his expression changed from shocked to disgusted. It was tough but you kept your cool.
Then you got to know about the massacre and that is when you were confused and intrigued at the same time. Now you were doubting him but deep down you knew that there is something that is not meeting the eye.
You tried confronting him but every time you tried you met his cold gaze and harsh words like "you're not worthy to be here" or "How are you not dead already, I'm surprised"
He knew that there was no going back for you now. Even if he tells you the reason there is no way you can take back from being an Akatsuki member.
But he was sure that you will not be at peace till you found out what happened.
He slowly explained you everything that happened and gave you your answer. Not only that, he also made sure that you had a way back before he passed away. Making sure that you were out of reach from everyone till the time it was all over.
Even after being reincarnated he paid you a visit before passing away.

Door 2
You swallowed back your feelings of uncertainty, carefully approaching the door that had gained your attention. You knocked, then waited for a response, only to receive none. As bad as you felt for invading the riders' privacy like this, your curiosity propelled you forward anyway, and soon enough, you found your hand grasping the knob. Giving a gentle twist and nudging the door open just enough to peek inside, you called out, announcing your presence and asking for permission to enter. Once again though, there was none.
Your shoulders sank a bit in defeat and you furrowed your brows; you'd come all this way, with your curiosity and determination to get to know each of the riders driving you. Chewing on your bottom lip, you silently contemplated your options for a moment, deciding against simply walking away. You were going to enter anyway, and you were going to look around. As long as you weren't digging through the dresser or rifling through papers, you'd be forgiven... right?
[You selected: Door 2]
Tumblr media
Now entering: War's room
~~~
Stepping further into the room and nudging the door shut behind yourself, you glanced around, squinting to see in the darkness. The curtains had been drawn, as if this room's occupant were attempting to avoid the light. Sighing, you flicked the light switch, blinking as light flooded the room. You'd needed a moment to let your eyes adjust before you continued on, almost absentmindedly wandering over to her bed.
It was perfectly made, without even a single wrinkle in the sheets. Taking a glance up at the hammock that was suspended from the ceiling nearby, you understood immediately. The bed was in such good shape because she'd rarely used it. On the bedside table closest to the hammock, there was a small picture frame, and you made a face, making your way around the bed to get a better look at it.
Very delicately picking up the picture frame and looking at the photo it contained, you gave a small, sad smile. The photo was an image of War during her younger years, when she was still going by "Mal". On both sides of her were Necro and Zerif, and in front of her, with his slender arms wound around her body, was Lucky. One of Necro's hands rested on her shoulder, and the usually blank, expressionless look he wore was gone, replaced with a small, almost proud smile. Zerif had an arm around her waist in some form of a half-hug, and he smiled brightly.
Slightly off to the side was Template, wearing a wide smile of his own and striking some sort of heroic pose, while Fresh stood beside him, his hands stuffed in his jacket pockets as he donned a lazy grin, "YOLO" in bright yellow and cyan letters across the lenses of his sunglasses.
A family photo. One in which everyone looked so happy together. Huh. So she was the more family oriented type, it seemed.
Your gaze wandered away from the frame in your hands, drifting to a couple pictures that were hanging on the wall. You gently placed the picture frame back where it belonged, before moving closer to the hanged photos, tilting your head. The first was a photo that'd been taken by a third person, and it contained an image of Mal, Lucky, and Fresh. The three had dozed off on the couch together, a bowl of popcorn sitting on a cushion beside Fresh. On his other side was Mal, her head laying on his shoulder as she slept, and on the other side of her was Lucky, tucked under her arm and cuddled into her side, clutching a stuffed animal.
You shifted your gaze to the second hanged photo; this one was of Mal sitting on a sofa beside Geno, a thick photo album on his lap. They appeared to be flipping through the pages and checking out the individual photos together. Geno had a single brow bone arched and wore a slight grin as he pointed out a specific picture, and in response, Mal was looking at it, a wide grin stretched across her face and her sockets slightly narrowed in amusement. Blue tinted tears pricked at the edge of her sockets as she looked at whatever Geno had pointed out, as if she was laughing so hard she was in tears.
You leaned closer, trying to see the image they were laughing at, but it was to no avail.
Stepping away from the wall, you wandered over to a wooden shelf unit. One shelf was occupied by a basket full of yarn and a sewing kit, as well as an assortment of various needles, and the second shelf contained several books; they seemed to range from word games to crocheting guides, to cookbooks and guides on how to do embroidery. The third shelf was lined with dolls in various sizes, all of which she'd crocheted.
Upon looking closer at the dolls, you raised an eyebrow, taking in the way they resembled the members of her family - obviously, there were Necro, Zerif, and Lucky, but she'd also made more that resembled Template, Ink, and Fresh. Another doll resembled a female skeleton with completely white sockets, and if you had to guess, you'd say it was her friend, Betta.
Glancing over the rest of the shelf and seeing more dolls, you immediately recognized Geno, Death, Dream, Cross, and Lust, as well as one that resembled War herself. There was also a cartoony looking heart she'd been working on, that looked to be covered in stitches and cracks. It looked unfinished, so you opted not to touch it.
There was another box with more dolls inside that sat on the floor beside the shelf, the word "trash" scribbled on the side of it in sharpie. Of all things thrown into the box, a patch of dark blue fabric caught your eye, so you squatted, carefully moving the dolls and tugging at the fabric until a jacket was revealed; comprised of black fabric that faded into blue, with a black hood and eye catching yellow drawstrings. Some stitches were dotted across the item, done with vibrant red thread, and you frowned. By how old the jacket appeared, she'd been holding onto it for a while now.
Tucking the jacket back into the box and moving the dolls back over top of it, you let out a soft exhale. The next thing to catch your attention was her desk, and you stood, crossing the room.
A brown hoodie was draped over the back of her desk chair with what looked to be newly made stitches on one of the shoulders. You made a face; brown wasn't War's color. There's no way that could be hers. Shrugging off the oddness of the hoodie and its presence, you turned your attention to the desk. Several envelopes were scattered across it, already clearly having been opened, and there was a partially eaten chocolate bar sitting on top of it's crinkled wrapper. You were tempted to break off a small piece, but quickly thought better of it.
A book laid open, a pen sitting on the desk beside it, and out of curiosity, you moved closer and peered down at it. From what you could make out, you could read part of what seemed to be a journal entry; "- rats got in my room and made themselves at home in my dresser. I didn't realize they were there until I was looking for a shirt to wear. They just looked up at me, and they were actually really cute. I might've fed and held them a little, and I was really tempted to keep the little baby one, but shhh. Don't tell Pest."
You shook your head and couldn't help but smile faintly in amusement; so Pest's rats were growing on her, it seemed. You began to cross the room again, and on your way back toward the door, you glanced down into her hammock and paused. Peeking out from under some patchwork quilt she was using as a blanket, was another crocheted doll. It was larger than the others you'd seen, and upon seeing the brown hoodie it was wearing, paired with it's grin and green yarn that was meant to be some sort of fluid dripping down it's chin, you knew who it was supposed to be.
Your expression softened; War was such a dork. She obviously liked the guy a lot, dare you say she even loved him, and yet... she couldn't bring herself to admit it. You stole a quick glance at the alarm clock that sat on her bedside table and read the time, feeling your pulse suddenly spike. She'd be back soon, so that meant you needed to leave now. Frowning at the realization, you shrugged your shoulders, quietly beginning to walk toward the door again. Flicking the lights off, you slipped out of the room, carefully closing the door behind yourself.
Yes, going into her room while she was gone wasn't a good thing to do. You understood that and tried to push back the guilt that began to creep out from hiding. Going into her room was bad. Snooping through her things was bad. Hell, you'd read a page of her journal, and that was also bad.
You felt... enlightened, also, in a sense. You felt like you knew more about her somehow, and now, you were left with having to choose between admitting to her that you'd gone into her room, and staying quiet, never saying a word about what you'd done.
Standing in the hallway for a moment, you fought with yourself. All the guilt and confusion began to make your head ache and you sighed; for now, you'd go home and sleep off your rapidly building headache. When you were in a better state of mind, then you'd try to make your choice.
Growing Pains || A Marlene McKinnon fanfiction
Chapter Two - Hogwarts
Chapter One here
Tumblr media
Finding the confidence to ask someone if she could sit with them was proving to be a lot harder then Marlene originally thought. Especially with the thought of her fight with her sister so clear in her head.
Marlene was overreacting, she knew it but she didn't care. Steph lied and her and she hated being lied to. Steph knew this.
They had both been brought up in what Marlene thinks was the right way. To respect others, to not take the purity of others blood into account, to be kind and fair and brave. That Slytherins were anything but, that Gryffindor was the house that every member of their family was apart of and that was for a reason.
But surely she knew better then this? Maybe if her sister was in Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff she would be less mad. She didn't want to be mad at Steph, for she was the only person on this train that she knew. She didn't think about making friends on the train, she had just assumed she would enjoy the ride with Steph and her friends and then start actually putting herself out there to her own year once sorted.
Luckily she was able to find a carriage of her own, at the very front of the train, next to where the prefects were. She took her seat and a deep breath.
Now what?
She hadn't really packed anything in her bag that could be used as entertainment. She expected that she would have people to talk to for the train ride.
She sighed and looked out the window, this was going to be a long journey. And the train hadn't even taken off yet.
It was about twenty minutes before the train took off and then another ten minuets for someone to join Marlene.
A small plump boy, draw coloured hair and baby face entered the carriage. "Umm I hope you don't mind but could I sit here?" he asked quietly.
Marlene had to stop herself from jumping with excitement, he was clearly someone who would be in her year and she could use the company.
"Oh yes! Of corse, please take a seat," she beamed. "My names Marlene, Marlene McKinnon."
"Peter Pettigrew," the boy replied, shaking her outstretched hand and sitting in the seat opposite her. "Are you a first year too?"
Marlene nodded, "Yes I am, I'm so excited. Aren't you? Oh I can't wait to be sorted and start classes," she rambled, slightly bouncing up and down in her seat.
Peter smiled, "So am I. What house do you think you'd be in?"
"Gryffindor probably," she replied, trying not to sound as confident as she actually was. "My whole family has been Gryffindor, only makes sense. What about you? Are you pureblood?"
Peter nodded, "My family has been mixed and matched. No real legacy for me, although I'm hoping to also make Gryffindor."
Marlene nodded and politely smiled, trying not to let it show on her face that she thought he would rather be suited in Hufflepuff in her opinion.
"Do you have any siblings?" she asked, she didn't want to sit in silence with Peter. She had to make friends somehow and this seemed as good of a time as ever.
Peter nodded, "A sister, Beth her name is. She's a year younger then me. Have you?"
Marlene hesitated. Really she should've known that Peter would ask back but it still caught her off guard. She had just told Peter that her entire family was Gryffindors, but Steph in fact wasn't a Gryffindor at all.
Still, she was her sisters. And it wasn't like she expected Peter to actually make Gryffindor, he probably would never notice.
"I have one older sister, a younger brother and two younger sisters."
"Wow, big family you've got there."
Marlene let out a little laugh, "Yeah, I guess... But I like having a big family. I love my siblings as I know you must love your sister."
Peter nodded, "Yeah, definitely."
Marlene and Peter continued talking throughout the ride and rode the boats to the castle with two other girls.
Just the sight of the castle made Marlenes stomach grow butterfly's, it was everything she ever dreamed of and walking into the great hall for the first time was surly a moment she would never forget.
"When I call your name, come forward and I will place the hat on your head. When you've been sorted please join your house table," Professor McGonagall said, before pulling out a scroll and speaking the first name.
"Black, Sirius"
Black, Marlene had heard of that family before, all Slytherins, all purists, all arseholes. She narrowed her eyes as she watched the black haired boy take his seat up on the stool. This one would be obvious.
"GRYFFINDOR!" the hat shouted and the hall went silent.
Marlene allowed herself to glance back at the Slytherin table, where Sirius' family were, ready to welcome him with open arms. Now all sat with their jaws open and eyebrows raised.
Looking back at Sirius almost broke her heart, he looked... scared.
Marlenes eyes didn't leave Sirius for the majority of the sorting. It wasn't until she hear "MacDonald, Mary" that her head shot back to the front. She should be called up soon.
Mary was a small girl, with beautiful brown skin and was wearing a black hijab. She walked up to the stall and sat down, it didn't take long for the hat to yell "GRYFFINDOR," causing the hall to applause while Mary joined her house.
"McKinnon, Marlene."
For whatever reason, Marlene decided to wait a total of three seconds before actually moving, as if she was scared that there were two Marlene McKinnons in her year or perhaps if she misheard the professor and went up before her name was called.
She sat at the stool and faced the great hall. Only then did she feel so incredible small. So many eyes all staring up at her, waiting to see where she'd be placed.
She found Stephanie easily, she was sat at the Slytherin table, close to the edge of the table, as if she was getting ready to welcome Marlene into the house.
"Oh god please not Slytherin" she whispered.
Not Slytherin? Pity, I reckon you'd do rather well there.
Marlene had to stop myself from jumping too much. Of course the hat talked, she had been told this. She had been told every little detail about the sorting ceremony but now that she was here she was terrified. Steph being a Slytherin had completely caught her off guard. She just wished the hat would hurry on and sort her already.
Getting impatient are we? So Hufflepuff will never do.
Well you've got that right, she thought. Just please say Gryffindor and leave me be.
Gryffindor? You have bravery yes but also creativity and wit and, if you use it correctly, intelligence. Perhaps Ravenclaw is more your style.
Ravenclaw? She hadn't thought of herself as a Ravenclaw before. Always Gryffindor. She had to be Gryffindor.
You don't have to be anything the hat spoke again. Here all you have to be is yourself and you are not a Gryffindor
Marlene could feel the hat move on her head, she knew what was coming.
Wait, I'm not-
"RAVENCLAW!"
Marlene didn't remover much of the feast from then on. Instead she sat at the Ravenclaw table sulking. She looked like a fool.
Of corse Peter had made it into Gryffindor, along with Sirius, Mary, three other boys and a girl with red hair. She had never envied strangers more.
She couldn't keep her eyes off the Gryffindor table, they all sat there talking and laughing with their prefects. The Ravenclaws around her tried to get through. Also sorted into her house were two other girls, Emmeline and Hestia. And two boys, Caradoc and Benjy. Their prefect, Frank was currently answering every question her four housemates could come up with.
"It's a small batch this year isn't it?" A girl said, taking a seat next to Frank. "Hi, my names Pandora. I'm head girl," she said, shaking each other their hands.
"Small as in number or height?" Frank joked.
Pandora laughed and shoved him "Oh shut it Longbottom, Merlín knows how you got prefect you can't go abusing your power by bullying first years," she laughed causing the others around them to laugh along.
"Anyways, we better go off to bed. Before everyone starts clearing out and we end up losing one of you. Follow me firsties," Frank said loudly, getting up from his seat.
The five first years followed him through the castle until they had reached Ravenclaw tower.
Marlene had to admit the Ravenclaw common room was beautiful. Frank lead them down the staircase and sat the five of them on the blue sofas by the fire.
"Right, well this is it! Umm just a few ground rules that Ravenclaw house has had for a while and a few insights of other houses and all that.
"Firstly, you're welcome to borrow any book only condition is that you give it back. A rule that I'm pretty sure all houses have are parties are allowed but Hufflepuff usually take care of Halloween because they're closest to the food, there's a ball every year right before the Christmas holidays, although only forth year and above are allowed, sorry guys and parties for such events such as birthdays we say third year and above are allowed to host those. Like no offence yall are cute but nobody knows who you are or care about the fact that you're turning twelve so-" he shrugged.
"Boys I warn you, don't go up to the girls dorm by your own will you will regret it. Ummmm what else is there...? Okay if I think of anything else I'll tell you but until then, follow me youngsters," he quickly jogged to a door under the balcony, down a corridor leading to two stair cases.
"Ladies, follow those stairs up to the first door and you will find your dorm room. You'll find that your things have already been sent up for you. Boys, follow me," and with that he, Caradoc and Benjy were gone.
It was Hestia that lead the way to the dorms and immediately jumped on the closest bed. Emmeline then took the middle one leaving Marlene to take the one furthest from the door.
The three girls unpacked in silence until Hestia spoke up, "You're quiet," she said, looking at Marlene.
Marlene just shrugged, "I guess."
Hestia didn't respond but Marlene caught her and Emmeline sharing a glance.
"Well, I was thinking about going down to the common room. Maybe we could get the boys, try to know each other a little better. You two up for it?" Emmeline then asked.
Hestia nodded smiling but Marlene shook her head, "I'm actually a bit tired. Might go to bed early after writing to my folks," she lied. Really she had no intention in writing to her parents until she could properly talk to Stephanie.
The two girls nodded and left the dorm, leaving Marlene on her own.
She sighed and got changed quickly before getting into bed.
"This isn't so bad," she told herself. So far Hogwarts was nothing like she expected but it wasn't all bad. Could've been worse definitely.
With that thought in mind, Marlene turned off the lamp and slowly but surly fell asleep.
On The Street Where You Live, Part 1
Tumblr media
My laptop finally arrived! It got lost in the mail. Once I get electricity I can finally work on Ragnatela again. So this--and its next part--might be the last bonus chapters for a while.
I always thought that if Patience and Salvatore were younger--and met of their own accord--it would be quite different. Hell, extend that to Leonardo too.
***
Patience Winslow took the same route home every day, trudging down the gray street with her books in her arms, passing a cracked fire hydrant, an abandoned warehouse, a park with rusted and creaking equipment. The stream ran with green scum and sludge alongside the road in a drain.
She had no idea why her parents had decided to move from Greenhaven to stinking Garland City. She hated everything about it. She hated the school and the rude, rowdy city girls. She hated her bored, apathetic teachers. She hated the way she knew nobody. In Greenhaven, everyone had known her and her parents by name.
And most of all, she hated her slum of a neighborhood. There were union meetings next door. A drunk with dogs that never stopped barking on the other side. There were gunshots in the night and people speaking different languages and gangs of youths that loitered the street.
One particular gang she hated with a passion. They were always standing outside of a butcher shop she passed, talking and smoking cigarettes. They always were dressed sloppily, with their shirts untucked. She suspected they were dagos, but she thought one sandy-headed boy might have been Polish or Irish.
The head boy, a black-haired youth, always yelled something dirty out to her. And always her. One day when she was crossing the street behind a group of other girls he had called out to her specifically, and the other girls had giggled and looked behind them at her.
Patience was approaching them now. Sure enough, there they were, one leaning against the wall, another holding a cigarette, and the head one spotted her.
She walked faster.
"--skirt! Come over and give me a kiss," he yelled, and she bowed her head, flushing in shame. An old woman was across the street, surveying them closely with her lips pursed in disapproval. She was so focused on where she was going that she didn't notice when she tripped over the curb. Her knee erupted in pain.
The quietness of the street, and the loudness of his voice, stressed her and humiliated her. She struggled up and began walking again, and the shouts rang in her ears, and she covered her face with her hands and began running, tears bursting from her eyes.
"Oh, look at that! You made her cry!"
"You're a son-of-a-bitch, Sal."
She heard rapid pounds of footsteps, and someone grabbed her shoulder. She turned around to face the dark-haired boy, trying desperately to hide her face.
"Hey, hey, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you cry." His voice was regretful and a little embarrassed.
"Go to hell," she said, trying not to tear up, but he took the back of her head and cleaned her tears with his sleeve. Close-up, he was very handsome, with thick black hair in a widow's peak and sharp, angular features.
The rest of his gang were around her now. "C'mon, tell the girl you're sorry," said the heavy one.
"I..." he looked discontented. "I always looked at you walking back from school and-- hey, you all! Get lost!" He barked at his friends.
"I kinda like you," he said under his breath once they were gone. "And I guess--I didn't know that you'd. Uh, react this way--but I really do like you."
Patience studied him through her tears. His big dark eyes and stark eyebrows and thin lips and that gangly frame halfway to becoming a man. She still felt like crying but the thought of someone liking her flattered her. "Do you go to William Weston High school? I think you're a few grades ahead of me."
"Yes'm. My name's Salvatore Mallozzi." He offered her his hand. "Pleased to meet you."
His hand was warm as she shook hers.
***
After that, he began giving her little tokens every time she walked by, instead of harassing her. He had pennies and handkerchiefs and even an ice cream cone sometimes. And she knew she should hate him--she still did, a little--and stay away from him, because he was the sort of boy you should stay away from, but she was impressed and flattered and fascinated by the attention the older boy heaped on her.
Patience arrived home one day, and Mommy was yelling at Daddy. His assignment wasn't ending soon enough, and Mommy wanted to go back to Greenhaven. Patience hated it when her parents yelled like that. She didn't go home, but ran off, her schoolbag thumping against her side.
When she came to the corner, the boys were still there, and she approached shyly. Black-haired Sal was holding a cigarette, and he smiled and motioned. "Come on, join the crowd."
Patience took one inhale, coughed, and resolved to never do it again. She passed the cigarette to the sandy-haired boy. "I don't think I ever got your name," said Sal.
"Patience. Patty."
"This is Thurston and Luca and Tony and Jacko." He indicated each member in turn.
"Is this your... like, headquarters?"
"No. My dad owns this shop so he lets us hang around."
Standing by them, their casual conversation horrified and fascinated her. Robbing trucks. Making another rival member 'pay'. Her attraction couldn't compete with her disgust, and she eventually walked home.
But her home still wasn't empty.
A strange black car was parked in the driveway, and unfamiliar voices filtered from the living room.
She poked her head in. Daddy was sitting on the couch, face pale. Opposite him she saw a hulking beast of a man, shoulders broad, and beside him a slimmer figure with golden hair.
"Patience, honey. Go play outside," said Daddy, his voice having a note of urgency that made her hackles rise.
The hulking man turned to fix his eyes on her, and her body paralyzed with fear. They were dead as the eyes of an animal, like eyes painted on a wall, completely blank. They made her freeze in place like a deer in the headlights.
He said something in a deep voice to the golden-haired boy, and the boy stood up. "Go on, go," said Daddy.
Patience was happy enough to leave the room, and the cold-eyed man. The blond boy tagged along, smiling congenially.
"What is your name?" He asked her as she sat on the stoop. "Mine is Leonardo. My father knows your father well."
He spoke with a heavy Italian accent she could tell he was trying desperately to shed. "Patience," she said.
"Pazienza. What a lovely name. Patience is a virtue."
"Yeah. It's a family name. One of my great-aunts or something was named Patience."
"Are you from around here?"
"No, Massachusetts. What about you?"
"Sicily. Scafapani. It's a beautiful little village near the coast, tucked away in the mountains. But I was born in Rome, the capital of Italy."
"That's pretty cool." Patience didn't really want to talk with him, but she kept getting drawn back. He was a very handsome boy, with thick, curling golden hair and red lips. His eyes were so blue, and with such long lashes, that she desperately envied him.
She heard a crash from inside, and leaped up. He caught her shoulder and forced her down. "You have very pretty eyes," he said, staring at her intently. "Green as the sea."
Leonardo really was very handsome. And well-dressed, in a waistcoat and a tie. The family was obviously well-off. His hand was warm, and he stroked her leg through her tights. "Thank you," she said, wanting to move her leg but feeling frozen.
The door swung open, and the dark-haired man exited, his heavy boots clomping on the ground. He sharply spoke a word in a different language to his son.
Leonardo stood up. "I will meet you again, Pazienza."
He followed his father to the car, and Patience watched them leave before she entered the house again.
The sitting room was a wreck. The coffee table was overturned, and papers were everywhere. Her father was dabbing his bleeding nose with his handkerchief.
"Daddy! What happened?"
"Nothing, honey." He turned to her sharply. "Listen. If you're here alone, and someone knocks at the door, never answer it. Understood?"
She nodded blankly.
"Go tell your mom it's time to start dinner."
***
Patience studied her shopping list. Milk. Red beans. Flour. Beef. The deli had bene closed that day, so that was the one thing she couldn't find. Her mom was going to give her an earful--she wanted to make her famous meat pie for guests that were coming over, three of her dad's police coworkers.
As she walked home in the waning Saturday sun, she kept an eye out for when Salvatore and his gang loitered in front of that butcher shop, but they weren't there. They never were on weekends. An idea sparked in her mind. Hell, if she knew the guy, why didn't she just get her meat from his shop? For some reason her father and his friends never went there, preferring to go to the shop that was 2 miles away. It never made much sense to her. I mean, the paint was peeling and there were always shifty-looking people in and out of there, but that didn't mean they had bad meat.
Patience was a naturally inquisitive girl, so she stepped inside. It was warm and well-lit, with a large glass counter under which various sliced meats sat glistening. The menu was written in chalk on a blackboard nailed to the wall.
The benches and tables were all occupied by older, balding men in ratty-looking overcoats, who all looked over at her suspiciously.
A stocky man with a jowly face was shaving slices off a hamhock behind the counter. He looked up indifferently. "Hi," Patience said. "Can I, uh--"
At the sound of her voice, a familiar person stuck his head out of the door.
"Patience, is that you?" He said.
"Yeah! Hi, Sal."
He was dressed in a blood-smeared butcher's apron and his hair was in disarray. He self-consciously smoothed it back, but that did nothing but make his hair sticky with blood. "What are you doing here?"
Patience smiled inwardly. She'd surprised him at his workplace and he was all embarrassed. "Well, the deli on Fashion Square was closed, so I decided to stop here instead. Guess you don't get too many girls here, huh?"
He laughed nervously. "Well, I guess, I mean, not too much. You look, uh, great."
Patience was wearing a plaid skirt, white knee-high socks and a blouse. "Thanks. I wish I could say the same about you."
"So, what are you looking for?"
"One pound of corned beef." As he began her order, she rested her elbows on the counter amd stared at him. "Hey, Sal? Do you know anyone called Leonardo? Blond, with curly hair?"
His face turned puce, and he cut into the slab of beef with more force than neccessary. "That little fuck. His daddy pays for him to go to St. Joseph's, that private Catholic school that costs an arm and a leg to get in. Tries to pretend his whole family ain't from the ass-end of Sicily. But people love him 'cause he's a good talker and has a nice manner. I hate that smarmy little douchebag." He stopped cutting for a moment. "Why? Do you know him?"
"Yeah, I met him." Patience studied him carefully. "He's real cute, you know."
"The Borghese boy?" said one of the men at the tables. "I always thought he was a fag."
Salvatore looked mortally offended. "He probably fuckin' is. You stay away from him, Patty. He's a two-faced little snake and always has been. Don't let him take advantage of you." He finished weighing her beef and wrapped it up. "Here you go."
Patience took out the rest of the money her mother had given here, but he pressed his hand over hers, closing her fist with the money inside. "Don't bother. This one's on the house." He smiled at her, that billion-dollar smile that made her heart thump. "Save it, get yourself a treat. Maybe at that Dairy Queen on the corner of 5th and 9th. How about I meet you there after school on Monday?"
She smiled back. "Sure. Sounds good. See you then."
As she left, a man walking in held the door for her. He was tall and handsome with slicked-back hair and dark glasses. "Thank you, sir," said Patience.
"Anytime, sweetie." He let the door swing shut behind him. As soon as Sal spotted the man, he stood ramrod straight. "Boss Malone!"
"Heeey, Sal. Thought I'd drop by to see how our 'project' was doing. Got yourself a girl now, haven't you?" He ruffled Sal's hair and grabbed him in a half-hug with his arm around his neck. The younger boy guffawed bashfully.
"Son, do you know who that girl is?" Malone's voice became serious.
"Patience, right? She lives just around the corner."
"That's Patience Winslow, I've seen her around before. She's the daughter of Richard Winslow."
Realization dawned on Salvatore's face. "THAT Richard Winslow?"
"Yeah. Him. So be careful, okay? I know you're just kids fooling around. But don't let yourself get... carried away or nothin'."
"I won't, boss."
Malone nodded to the door that led to the back of the butcher shop. "So. Let's see how our 'project' is goin, yeah?"
In a back room, among slabs of frozen pork and sausage, was a man tied to a chair. His ears, nose, and eyes were cut out, crystallized trickles of blood frozen down his face and neck.
"Cocksucker still ain't tellin us anything, is he?"
"I've been working on him all day, Bats. Nothin." Salvatore crossed his arms, blood-stained cleaver in hand.
Malone took the cleaver from him, threw it up in the air and caught it by the handle. "Let this be a learning experience, Sal. Watch closely..."
***
The date had gone well, and Salvatore had been nice enough to walk her home after the fact. She had bid him goodbye on the street beyond where she lived so her mom and dad didn't have to see him. He wasn't the sort of boy her Daddy would have been enthused to see her bring home.
Her heart was in her throat as she walked up to her door. She was noticing all sorts of things about him now, the sharp widow's peak on his forehead, how big and black his eyes were, how tall he was, so tall he had to stoop down to kiss her.
Her mind was so focused on the kissing that she didn't notice they had company until she saw the figure sitting in the living room.
"Ciao, Pazienza." Leonardo put down his teacup delicately.
"Whatcha doin' here, Leonardo?"
"He wants to talk with your daddy. Richard should be getting back in half an hour." Marilyn was red in the face, and her skirt was untucked. Patience collapsed on the floral print sofa next to Leonardo and tool her shoes off. "Did you just make these, Mommy?"
"Leonardo brought them by. He's a very good cook."
She bit into one. Peanut butter. They were indeed surprisingly good. "Where'd you learn to cook like this? Do you have home ec at your school?"
Leonardo chuckled. "Not at St. Joseph's, though I'd love to take home ec. I do all the cooking for my father, always have."
"That's weird." The thought of doing all her cooking for her dad was bizarre.
"You should stay, Leo. Help us make dinner," said Mommy.
"Alas. I'm afraid I am expected home just after I talk with Mr. Winslow."
The door swung open, and she heard her father's footsteps. As soon as he entered the living room and saw Leonardo his face froze. "Both of you, get out."
Patience left, her quarrelling mother close behind. She was peeling potatoes on the table when Leonardo finally emerged, and he paused next to her on his way out the door.  "You should come over to my house for dinner sometime," he said softly. "I'll show you how good my cooking is."
She smiled. "I might take you up on that sometime."
He put his hand on her shoulder and let it slide off slowly, fingers trailing over her skin, then left like a breeze through the front door.
"He's very nice, isn't he?" Sighed Marilyn, dunking the potatoes in a pot of hot water. "He doesn't look like a dago at all. In fact, he looks very white."
"Italians can look like anything, Mom. They were Romans and stuff, remember? I learned it in World History."
"I suppose so. I don't know what the Borgheses and Richard have against each other. I wish the boy would come and visit more often."
***
"Junior Prom is comin' up."
Patience stirred her sundae, watching the caramel and ice cream swirl together. "Is it? Are you going?"
"Well, I never went to prom before. Thought it was kinda gay, you know. But... uh, I was wondering if... maybe this year, you'd like to go with me."
She stopped stirring and looked up at him, stars in her eyes. "Really?"
"Yeah." He smiled. "And maybe, if everything works out... we can go next year, as well."
Patience tossed her arms around his narrow shoulders and kissed him passionately. His lips parted under hers, and she tasted cigarettes.
"I'd love to! Oh, Salvatore! Oh my gosh! I have to get a dress..."
***
Salvatore walked her home as he usually did, arm in arm, and since it was getting dark, they took a shortcut down an alley she didn't recognize.
They emerged onto a dimly lit street with weeds growing through the cracks of the sidewalk. Some of the houses were boarded up.
The street was empty but for a kid wearing a leather jacket leaning against the wall of a building. Smoke spiralled from the cigarette he held in his hand. When he saw the two of them, he threw his cigarette to the ground and stomped on it. "What the fuck are you doing here, greaser?" He snarled. "This is Bulldogs territory."
Sal eyed him coldly. "Calm the fuck down, Sam. I'm just escorting my girlfriend home."
"Well, escort her home some other way. Your kind isn't allowed around here."
"I will go wherever the fuck I want, you mick asshole."
"What did you call me? You ain't so tough without your little gang, you guinea cocksucker. Come over here!"
Salvatore's arm was tense in hers. "I ain't gonna cause a scene in front of my girl, otherwise I woulda beaten your red head in until it looked like a fucking pile of meat. Back off."
"Maybe you should leave your girl here so I can take her home." Sam leered at her, and her hackles rose. "Leave me alone!"
Salvatore let go of her arm and threw a punch so rapid that the boy barely had time to blink before his fist crunched into his face.
Sam stumbled back, hands going up to cover his face. Blood burst through his fingers.
Salvatore caught him with a right hook, but he was ready with a left hook.
The thuds of muscle and bone were the only sound on that quiet street. Patient stood there, frozen, wanting to flee, wanting to scream, but able to do nothing but watch them. Salvatore twisted a an arm around his enemy and threw him to the ground.
His nose was bleeding and his eyes were as black as coal. And he grabbed the boy's arm and dragged him over to the curb, and threw his head on top of the concrete edge.
And Sal kicked him so hard that the crack echoed through the night. Patience was screaming by then, frightened and shrill, and when she couldn't take it anymore she ran back through the alleyway she came in.
Sal ran to catch up, grabbing her shoulder. "What the fuck are you doing? You won't get home if you take this route! Come on--"
Patience yanked her shoulder out of his grip. "What is wrong with you?" She screamed. "Is that boy going to be okay?"
"Who cares?" He looked confused. "He's just some Irish prick. He started it."
She turned and tried to walk away, but his grip on her arm was iron.
"Listen." He gripped her face between his hands. "If anyone hits on my girl, I'll make them suffer. Doesn't matter who they are. You're mine, Patience. And you better remember it."
The harsh tone of his voice made her heart thud, and she pulled out of his grip and headed into the darkness. She knew he was standing there, watching her even if he didn't follow, and his gaze haunted her the whole way back, through her mother's screams and curses and her father's admonishments.
- K.S. Perspective
      Only two or three days had passed since high school had started, which meant only a couple more walks home with Y/n. They were shorter and quiet, and of course, there weren't any swerving cars.
But so far, what I had suspected was correct. She and I made amends and became buddies, thankfully.
      The only times she was left alone were when I had morning practice, and she had to have one of her friends drive her home. Either that or she would have to walk home alone. I would've loved to accompany her, but volleyball was something I didn't take lightly, and my priorities were important to me.
      Both I and my younger brother participated in volleyball and gave it our all ever since we were able to balance on our feet. Sadly, our parents were far too busy to go to any games, or even help us practice at home. But their goal was for their kids to grow up strong and steady with good grades and good stats, so that's why they made sure my younger brother and I were on top of our shit.
      Once my first year ended, I didn't expect that I would have to carry so many burdens all in one year. That's around the time mother had died from sickness, which left me with doubts, wishes, and an unaccomplished relationship with her.
      After the sudden death, our family didn't move on very well. My brother developed anxiety and depression, and he eventually had to take a break from school and volleyball. Then, my father became dull and increased his hours at work to avoid coming home to such a depressing home, leaving my brother and me to continue caring for ourselves, by ourselves.
      I, on the other hand, had barely anything to say about it. All I could do was pose as if I were handling it better than I had. Truth is, my mother's death changed my entire persona. I grew grim and gummy, deprived myself of rest, and repressed the trauma I've received. Not only did I overwork myself because of volleyball and stress, but I also grieved in harmful ways. It'd either be a blade to the wrist, or a night with a girl; anything that could help distract me from my state of deep dejection.
      It's been that way ever since. Only recently have I realized that I'm ruining whatever recovery I built up. That was all because of my best friend— Daichi— who had helped me come out about my feelings towards my mom's passing. Ever since, I've been able to learn from my mistakes, and slowly pick my life back up. I was beginning to become a better player for my team, better support for my family, and a better person for myself.
      That only happened recently. So now, I'm left with lots of things to mend, and relationships to make. I'm determined that I'll mourn more healthily than before.
——
      "Y/n!" A hopeful call leaves my lips, turning her head. As assumed, it was Y/n. Today she looked even brighter than before; she just has gotten more sleep. Not to mention she wore long socks instead of leggings, which must have been pretty hard in this weather.
      I didn't get to see her this morning due to morning practice, but I did catch her before lunch. Just enough time to tell her I won't be riding the bus tonight either.
      I look both ways of the cross hallway, before grabbing my book bag strap with both hands and jogging towards Y/n. I wasn't sure why I was so eager to see her, but all I knew was I needed a refreshing moment, and she could give me exactly that.
      "Why hello, Mrs. Refreshing!" I joke, bowing my head towards her while she giggled. Looking up, she stands there, shining by the sunlight that reflected on the windows.
      'If I could, I'd take a photo of you right here, just to show you how gorgeous you are.' I quickly put a halter on my thoughts, snapping back to a respectful filter. 'No, I can't do that. Not to myself, most definitely not to Y/n.'
      "You look nice today!" I exclaim, awkwardly patting the side of my hips while smiling at her. Hopefully, I hadn't made her uncomfortable in the first ten seconds of talking to her. The last thing I wanted was to ruin yet another relationship with a girl.
      Thankfully, Y/n responded with kind appreciation to my comment. "Why thank you, sir. And what brings you in my presence?" Her words curl in a formal British accent, adding onto our joke.
      Standing normally, I explain, "Oh, nothing. I just wanted to say hi, and to tell you I might not be walking home with you today. I'm really sorry,  practice has been very necessary for our team. I-I hope you understand." I stutter on the last part, with a gentle tone to add on. Ditching Y/n for most of the week wasn't what I had planned at first, but what I had told her was 100% true. The first years, as well as the rest of us, we're in bad shape. With our spring tournament coming up, we had no time to waste.
      "Oh, that's alright. I understand. I was in volleyball too, after all. Although, I do wish you could still accompany me. It gets a little lonely.." She looks down for a minute while I contemplate my existence entirely. 'So it does bother her.' But she quickly caught onto my thoughts by my expression and came up with a solution. "If— if you'd like, I can simply stay near the gym until practice is over! That way I can see you and your boys in action, yeah?"
      Her fists pop up into the air, as a bright smile appeared on her face. If you didn't know Y/n personally, you would expect them to be cold stone and dull. But in reality, I find they're like everybody else, and have a bright side to them, just like the one that was being portrayed right now.
      Nodding with her statement, I reply hesitantly. "Hm, I'd have to ask the captain, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind—"
      "Oh, Daichi? We're buddies, he'll be alright." I'm dazed by what she'd said, pausing the motion of rubbing my neck. She and Daichi hang in completely different groups, though! 'How is it they know each other? They hang around two very different friend groups.. that is unless they have some type of history I'm unaware about.' I think to myself, trying my best to find a reason they would be friends, but I couldn't. And so, I begin my questioning. "You two know each other?"
      Suddenly, Y/ns gaze twists. "Suga, you introduced me to them during our first year, silly. Remember? I went with you from practice once. And besides that, my good friend Miya is close to him."
      "Oh, yeah! I remember that. That means you only know Asahi, Daichi, and Kiyoko, right? I've gotta introduce you to the rest of the team! I'm sure they've missed you!" I chuckle, throwing an arm around her shoulders cautiously, expecting her to reject it. But she goes on casually with our discussion.
      "That's right.. well... I'm also— sort of— friends with them. Well, except Asahi. But Kiyoko and I are pretty close."
      '?' I tilt my head at the uncertain tone she spoke with. "Pretty close?" I ask, turning into the cafeteria with my arm still around her. The room is, of course, crowded as hell.
      Still, I manage to draw out what Y/n was saying to me, leaning my ear close to her mouth for better audio. "Yes! She's one of my best friends.. we used to date and it didn't work out, but we're pretty tight!"
      'DID I HEAR THAT RIGHT?!' My eyes widen, and I immediately let go of her, tightening my hands around the strap of my school bag. A gulp falls down my throat before I ask, "Did you say.. date?! You mean you two went out?!"
      To my surprise, Y/n nods proudly. "Yes! Why, did you not think she'd go out with a girl? Or is it so astonishing that I could ever get a girl like her?" She teases, while I'm still puzzled. So many questions ran through my head at the sudden fact: was Kiyoko gay? Was Y/n gay?! Does that mean she's gotten closer to Kiyoko than anyone before??
      "Suga, calm down. It's not like we're still together. As I said, it didn't work out!" She smirks towards me, putting a finger up towards her cheek. "Why? You got a little crush on her..? I wouldn't blame you."
      "N-no! It's not like that! It's just— she never told any of us. I guess she just keeps to herself more than predicted." My sentence comes out to sound like a question, rather than a response. It wasn't that I didn't support it, or that I was surprised Kiyoko would be her girlfriend. Honestly, I was just a little jealous of both of them.
      Either way, it seemed it didn't work out. So it didn't matter now. "Anyway, we're about best friends now, so I'm pretty familiar with your team. I don't think they would mind if I came, but just in case, I'll ask Daichi and Kiyoko." She explains, before looking back towards the slowly dying crowd of students in front of the cafeteria. "I better go soon, Suga. I'll let your captain know I'll be heading over there later—"
      "Wait!" I shut my eyes out of nervousness, as my brain wires work to come up with an excuse for why I yelled that. "You used to play volleyball, right?"
      An awkward nod from Y/n is given to me, followed by, "Yes, but I was sort of just a bench warmer. Nothing big." The hands that held her lunch box gripped tighter, as she suspected I would ask her a favor much larger than a lunch.
      "Mind helping me teach one of our new members how to receive?" I say. "His name is Hinata, and he's a first year. He has great talent and has great potential, but he kind of... sucks at volleyball. I mean, from what I've heard, he practices a lot. But I just think he needs some guidance. So, want to?"
      "Uhm... I'm pretty rusty.. but sure! It wouldn't hurt, right? Besides, I think I need a break from my friends wouldn't do any harm."
      'Yes, I did it.' I thought to myself, before leading her towards the doors that led to the gym. "Alright then, right this way!"
      "Suga! Don't you need your bag?" She immediately asks, tugging on my collared shirt. But I shake my head, responding with a light smile.
      "It's already outside, I just came to check on you, is all."
——
      Up, down, and up again went the ball. Each receive that Hinata had tried had failed every time. At this point, I wouldn't blame Y/n if she wanted to leave. But there she sits against the concrete wall of the outside of the gym, licking white rice off a spoon.
      "Hinata, drop your hips down more," I say to him, demonstrating the position I had stated. "Hit the ball like you're trying to return it where it came from. Got it?"
      Hinata's light expression appears on his face once again. "Yeah, got it!" He exclaims, before getting right into position. I signal the ball is going in the air before my palm hits it in the right spot, sending it towards him.
      And it shoots right back, along with a slap against Hinata's wrists. "Nice!" He praises himself, leaving a feeling of proudness deep within me.
      I'd never been able to teach somebody one of my special skills and having them accomplish it, not the way I did with Hinata. But that was mostly because he was driven by his entire body and soul to memorize every movement in his muscles to create a perfect receive. And who had taught him that? Your one and only.
      "Would you like me to start setting for you tomorrow morning?" I ask the ginger with confidence he'd reply with a yes. Thankfully, that's exactly what happened. His eyes light up in the sun, and his hands take full hold of the ball. "Y-you mean it, sir?!"
      The cold wind hits me, as well as another dosage of serotonin from the first year."Well, I am Karasuno's official setter after all! And you wanna practice spikes, right?" I ask, placing my red hands onto my hips.
      "Exactly! I love to spike! It feels so good when you get it right, and it's cooler than anything!" He shouts. I couldn't help but laugh at his excitement, even if it wasn't the first time he'd portrayed it. Hinata sure reminded me of my past self, and I'd do anything to help first-year Sugawara.
      Y/n suddenly joins our conversation, digging into a reason why Hinata is the way he is when it comes to spikes. "You must have a thing for spiking, don't you?"
      Hinata nods, putting a fist towards his face. "Yes. I didn't have a setter throughout middle school, and I was actually the only club member until my third year of junior high. I used to get my friend in the Basketball Club to toss for me, but after I had dropped out of the club, I went to anybody that could help me practice. Take the first years, and the ladies and setters from the girls' team, too. I've made a lot of friends along the way, but none of those people could ever become my real teammates. That's why I was dying to find out what kind of setters were in high school— but now.. you know."
      Hinatas pure passion dies down once he reaches the word 'setter', and I wouldn't blame him. The person he's supposed to be paired with is his complete opposite, and frankly, a dick-head. "Well, as I said, I'm a setter too. I'll toss you a few, Hinata! Don't get all down."
      I was expecting further satisfaction, but instead, his expression twists into envy. "But it's just that if I have you throw to me now, it kind of feels like... I'm losing." He frowns, looking away from my figure in anger.
      "You're just like someone I know, Hinata!   Always competitive." Y/n says, placing her small bento to the side, and lifting herself from the shaded spot she sat in. Her hands dust off her navy blue skirt, and her blazer comes off. "Why're you so competitive when it comes to Kageyama?"
      "If you ask me, it's better to avoid making enemies with those kinds of people." I join in.
      She wraps her hands around Hinatas shoulders, leaning over his shoulder. "You know, Hinata, you're not as bad as you make yourself out to be. Wanna know a secret about Kageyama?"Without hesitation, Hinata is fully interested in what Y/n had to say. Frankly, so was I.
      "Whatever you see from Kageyama is something he's learned from other players. He wasn't always so snobby; he used to be calmer and kinder. But once he was shown what he could do with his talent, it went to his head. Don't let that become you, Hinata! You have so much potential it's insane! I've never met anybody with as much love for volleyball as you." She pulls up her sleeves, getting into position for a receive, signifying I could rest now. "
      "How do you know what he used to be like, Y/n?" Hinata asks her, sending the ball into the air. My eyes follow it, but my ears listen intently to their conversation.
     "Well, I went to the same middle school as him. When he was a first-year, I was a third. Me and my friend we're on the girls' team, while my other three friends were on the boys' team. The four of us practiced every second of the day, which meant the two teams spent a lot of time together. Everything Kageyama knows is from another player; don't think he's just magically good at volleyball. Anyway, I don't know much about Kageyama, but I do know that he's changed dramatically." She explained. Just then, the bell for our sixth period had rung, and doors were heard opening and closing, as well as students fluttering around hallways.
       The three of us pause our mini practice and gather out things where they were settled. Thoughts ran through my head as I put my school blazer back onto my torso. If Y/n went to the same middle school as Kageyama, that must mean she knows a lot about Aoba Johsai: one of our greatest enemies in volleyball. And if she knows him, could she be familiar with his playstyle? In that case, having her around would not harm the team.
      "Sugawara, I'm off." She's heard saying from behind me, while she put her school bag over her shoulders. "Thank you for having me here with you and Hinata, I'm glad I could be of help."
      I nod in response, nervously breathing through the teeth."Yes, of course. Uhm— would you like me to pick you up from your classroom later on? Either that, or you could walk to the gym after band practice." I ask the young girl, longing for more time to hang about her.
      Then, she began walking backward, meanwhile talking. "I think I'll be just fine, Sugawara. No need to worry about me all the time. I've managed without you the past couple of days haven't I?" Her h/c danced with the wind as she did so, and the corners of her lips rose as she said so.
      "That's right.. I'll catch you later then!" I manage to shout out, raising a hand for a gentle wave, but it was too late. Y/n was already turning into the doors of the school, returning the gesture.
      Somehow, she always found a way to make the chains around my heart tighten a bit more. What was it that drew me towards Y/n? Hell, if I knew. "Wow, Sugawara. You've got yourself a pretty friend! She seems nice, too." Hinata expresses, looking agar with me. "Is she your girlfriend, or something?"
      "No, Hinata. Just an old friend. Someone who may know me better than anybody, you know." Y/n; The girl who knew her way around my heart.
A Conversation with Cowgirl Clue 1.10.18
DREAMCULTURE: I read that you're one of five kids, where do you fit in that and growing up did any of your other family members or siblings influence your love for music or did you take that up on your own?
COWGIRLCLUE: Actually me and my siblings are so different. They're supportive of my music but they don't understand it very much so its been like my own path honestly. Like when I was a kid my older brother and I ,he's my full brother my other siblings are half, my older brother and I we’re close in age so we were wearing diapers and dancing to Madonna when we were kids but like you know, we like music we love it but our music taste is super different.
DC: So in school you'd walk around with headphones and things like you got your first job at age 13. Do you like doing things independently like this is what you're gonna do or do you sometimes rely on other people for help or influence?
CLUE: I mean if its around and inspiring, its definitely great to have a support system, if its not its also good to stay confidant in who you are and being true to yourself. Yeah when I was in high school I didn't have a lot of friends because a lot of my friends were older and graduated so I just hung out in the art class and wore my headphones, discovered new music.
DC: Growing up in Austin, who were you listening to and what kind of shows did you go to?
CLUE: Well I was going to a lot of my cousins shows cause some of my cousins were in bands. I moved around a lot but I was definitely one of the youngest or at least it seemed like one of the youngest people going to shows. Now its totally different cause everyones very young. I was probably the only sixteen or even seventeen year old at shows. I was one of the only people with x’s on my hands but now its totally different. Its super cool.
DC: Was going to shows a big part of your life or did you go to just have fun?
CLUE: I definitely went out of curiosity like whats it all about whats its like whats it like seeing something live like the sound. But there were a ton of artists at the time that I loved so much and I never got to see them live and looking back I'm like ughhh you know? Like will my dad or my mom drive me and like yes sometimes but sometimes no or not at all so it just kinda depended on the time.
DC: Did high school and college guide you into where you are with music now? I know know you started music at 18.
Clue: Well i started DJing pretty young maybe even before I was 18 I think I was maybe 17 but yeah in some ways I think it more helped my mentality maybe not so much with music but it helped me have a motivational mindset. I also took a lot of dance classes which help me now. I didn't realize at the time but it helped me branch out of my shell. In a ways it was good.
DC: You went to college in Olympia and lived in a punk house, what was that like?
Clue: It was cool. It rained a lot so thats why I'm no longer living there anymore cause that does affect your mind no matter how many people wanna tell you that it wont. Olympia is a great place and also a terrible place at the same time. Living in a punk house is cool for like what it is. The rent was cheap, I got to play my music as loud as I wanted, I got to stay up as late as I wanted, and I got to paint my walls black and white striped but at the same time it wasn't always the cleanest place.
DC: Moving onto your music now, you currently live in California. Whats it like being apart of the California music scene compared to other places you've lived and preformed?
Clue: I don't know if its the scene, well I mean yeah theres a lot of people that are very supportive in general but I think thats more of a time thing like I was saying I feel like the younger audience is more brace now than it was before when I was younger. I feel like my music has changed and so I don't know if its the atmosphere thats changed and helped but I don't know maybe its a combination of everything.
DC: When and where did you play your first show?
Clue: My first show... well I played some of my first shows in random bands. Like I would make a band and we would play a show at a friends house and then it'd be done and we'd never play again. I don't even remember who was in my different bands. But my first time DJing my friend was like “Hey do you wanna DJ my birthday party?” and I was like sure and then it just developed from there and now I'm here in Denver it's great.
DC: Where have some of your favorite places to preform been?
Clue: I honestly just like preforming it really doesn't matter as long as the sound system is good I like playing anywhere.
DC: Do you ever get stage fright or anxiety before you go on?
Clue: Yes and no, it depends on if I get to the venue and I don't have a lot of time to soundcheck thats really terrifying, its actually extremely terrifying. I mean I always get stage fright cause thats just normal.
DC: Going on to your lyrics, how do you come up with them for your songs?
Clue: My only EP that I put out was very personal and I played off a lot of metaphors but the album I'm working on now which is my first album, I want it to be more relatable so I'm thinking about more relatable scenarios and less of an intimate setting but also intimate too, and visual lyrics that are visually stimulating are always really good too.
DC: Your 2016 SXSW performance was one of the first performances I saw of you , since then you've accomplished so many cool things like your song "Jewel" was used in a Volcom trailer and you've also done things with Volcom in the past and have been doing things with them like when you took over their snapchat story, how did all these things come about?
Clue: Just really putting out content and meeting new people in music constantly. Never saying no to anything and not having a huge ego will really help you. Just art in general or anything that you wanna accomplish and thats what is helping me right now.
DC: Into your style, its unique and you have your Clue Wear. When did you decide you wanted to start making your own clothes?
Clue: Actually that manifested this past year. Its a lot of work because I hand paint jackets. I was supposed to put it out last year but i haven't yet cause I'm still working on things but its something I'm recently trying out so we'll see how it goes.
DC: I was curious where did your genie aesthetic come from?
Clue: Thats a really good question no ones asked me that before. When I was DJing I guess if I really think about it I came up the name Geniefactory because I felt like if you were some sort of entity and you're changing the space of a room it would kind be like a genie. Smoke represents music like filling the room and changing the atmosphere so thats why I went with it when I really put thought into it.
DC: I know you're into crystals, the moon, plants, things like that and of course your boots! Is there anything you're currently really into?
Clue: I really like stuffed animals they make me feel happy because they just are brainless and cute and thats what they're there to do, to make you feel better.
DC: Last but not least, you're putting out a new album in 2018, what else can we expect from Cowgirl Clue in the new year?
Clue: Shows lots of shows. The new album which I don't have a name for yet and those are pretty big things honestly maybe some music videos too who knows we'll see!
