So for further information, I’m 20 and a guy lol.

My dad was a major cause of my anxiety as he is a cripplingly anxious person himself and is a pro at manipulating the people close to him to cater to his narcissism and melodrama.

It was fine at first, when I was younger and not mature enough to see what he was doing. He was my closest friend because my mom didn’t know how to interact with small children. Even when I became a teenager I rationalized a lot because he was, well, my dad. And I thought the world of him. Even when he screwed up, I covered over it because we as Christians are supposed to, as much as we can, and I’m a VERY forgiving person.

It wasn’t until I was 15 that it really hit me. See, part of my dad’s problem is that he can’t hold a job. Part of it is his career choice (which is slowly becoming obsolete) and part of it is his inability to get along with other people. So growing up, he was continuously getting fired or let go, and we’d have to move. Sometimes cross-country, wherever he could get a job. We’ve lived in Texas, Illinois, Arkansas, Washington state. Dad’s been obsessed with moving to Seattle for years, he’s very much a grass-is-greener type person. When I was 15 he found a job there and decided to fly up for 3 months to make sure the job would last before we followed him up. I was ready to do it! I still had no real friends (a symptom of constantly moving around) so I had nothing to lose. But after he left, it was just me and Mom, and we started having conversations that reallt resonated with me. Having the toxic behavior removed from my life shocked me in ways I did not expect, and hearing Mom explain those behaviors explained to me and point out even more and how toxic they are really just compounded the relief I felt having him gone. He only lasted a week before he complained of missing us and not being able to handle being alone. So we didn’t move.

So things were kinda different after that. I became less and less tolerant of his behaviors and we began clashing more and more, as much as we could when he held all the power. Not to mention staying in the same place led to me developing actual friends, which made things worse. When I was 18 he tried again to move to Seattle, and this time it worked. He made the 3 months, and we were forced to pack up and drive a week to get there. I hate roadtrips now. But that wasn’t the worst of it, I was forced to abandon all of my friends and it created a strain between my best friend and I that eventually broke the friendship.

I only lasted 3 1/2 months up there, because I was thrown straight into a major depression and Dad could tell I was starting to hate him. Fortunately his sister and father, my aunt and grandfather, were still living together back home, and they offered me a place to stay. I got a part time job up there so I could save up some money and buy a plane ticket to fly back. I planned to work for 2 months, but the job lasted 3 weeks before things broke down completely between us and Mom basically shipped me home to get me out of the house (too much tension). So I’ve been living here quite comfortably since then, but it’s taken a long time to process everything that’s happened to me and get over my fear of becoming my father. My friends now are different from my friends then, for the most part, but at least I have real friends now :)

Anyway I guess this was kinda part 1 of Emotional Trauma Saga with OCD Sensei, lol.

#ferrarifriday ‘s shoutout goes to this cross-country champ of a 1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2. Recently sold to its enthusiastic new caretaker, whom took delivery of the car here in Houston for a journey of a lifetime back home to Seattle. With searing 100++ temps across Texas and the southwest, team 330 set off on a wet Thursday afternoon and booked it Southern California by Saturday, and up to Monterey that evening, just in time for a reunion. On from there, all without missing a beat, they made it to Seattle within the next day. With nothing keeping him in Texas Jensen decides to leave, wandering back roads and wilderness with no destination in mind. His path leads him to a secluded farm in Wyoming and a ragtag group of people. Dreamt me and sister were on the roadtrip - driving through Texas, we needed to stay with friends bc we were too broke to get a motel so we got ahold of K and his household and were able to crash with them. Someone was working the front desk in a bright red wallpapered hotel/fancy restaurant, and I was like a hostess in there, buzzing around the front desk. Houston looked a lot like Portland, with a little bit of the cold open water of Seattle. There were drugs, I was talking about my favorite drug Aurora and no one knew what I was talking about until we remembered that was just a brand name for Adderall-type stuff - I wanted to get my hands on some speed to thank these guys for letting us crash there, asking Lily if Adderall was really the safest speed we could get or if it didn’t actually matter. K was kinda loopy, smoking lots of cigarettes, giving sideways grins, and gave me a couple of tiny dim red bird eggs to hold onto. One of them had died in the egg, the smaller one, but the other still had a chance. I tried to devote all of my focus to this egg, holding it in my hands and being so careful not to crush it. I worried that it was too cold so I ran some warm water over it but then it cracked open and the tiny red wet baby bird tumbled out and his head dragged against my palm and tore open. I was so sad, breathing really fast and ragged like crying, then woke up.
