oh but it is GOOD watching percy and annabeth fall in love in real time. to see the looks on their faces as they slowly discover that they would, actually, go to the ends of the earth to protect each other. "if i have to stick with someone," percy says, and then can't bring himself to say i'd choose you, because mere days ago he expected annabeth to stab him in the back at the first opportunity, and now he trusts her more than he trusts his own father, a literal god. "i thought we don't ask for help," percy says, but of course annabeth will swallow her pride (HER FATAL FLAW!!) and ask for help if it means saving percy. annabeth has wanted a quest since she arrived at camp half-blood, and yet she tries to sacrifice herself so the quest can continue without her. percy doesn't give two shits about the gods, and yet he chooses to sacrifice himself, not for the gods, but for his friends - so annabeth doesn't have to. they have been tentative allies for like three days and already they've both decided that nothing is more important than each other. just. man oh man

Very confused why they made it that the solstice already passed. Like I hope they have a reason behind it but it really makes no sense to me making him fail the quest

Don't get me wrong I live for all the percabeth as a couple content we got in HoO but pre-dating baby percabeth hits different. Omg the jealousy, the blushing, Percy freaking out because Annabeth broke the rules and sat too close to him at the Poseidon table. To those who were crying about Percabeth being a slow burn, trust me the yearning is where it is at. We won't get percabeth as a couple until the final episode of season 5 but best believe Percabeth nation will be feasting like kings.

Spoilers for Ep.6 of the PJO Show
ok but i'm so upset about this episode. i've ranted about most of it on my tiktok already but i wanted to come in here for a moment and talk about percabeth. because there are so many weird moments of the episode and the way percabeth has accelerated is just one of them.
now, having annabeth and percy bicker constantly is so very normal. its entirely in character and having luke call it out was a small moment of comedy that i appreciated.
however, having them split up to navigate the lotus casino felt bizarre, as if they were trying to get grover away and reduce the trio to a couple and their third wheel.
having grover go off on his own adds very little to the story. he gets his interactions with the other satyr but there was no need for that to be on his own. it would have had just as much effect if it was the group, and then they could use that as an opportunity to reemphasise grover's goals of being a searcher, especially to percy.
instead, it becomes this weird moment of grover getting dragged off and leaving percy and annabeth to confront hermes and then FORGET HIM.
i think the thing that upsets me most about the show so far is that whilst they are giving us plenty of percabeth content, i think its going a touch too fast and the cost of that is there is not enough depth and relationship building spent with grover. percabeth need the time to slowly develop their trust and care for each other and i don't think they've been allowed that time.
TLDR; the show isn't giving me as much time focused on grover as a character and his relationships with everyone. he has become a bit of a third wheel and that makes me upset.

I know we haven’t talked in a while but seeing you reblog pjo show content gave me an ‘Aha’ moment. The scene of where Percy tricks Annabeth and pushes her to safety in episode 4 has been bugging me the whole day. It reminded of something but I didn’t know what, but seeing you reblog that specific scene made me realize what it reminded me of. Its Shallura from the second last episode of the first season. Allura throwing Shiro to safety while she got captured. That’s what the scene of Annabeth and Percy reminds me of. The PARALLELS!!! And now i am overwhelmed with feelings.
Oh Shallura - they will have always deserved better </3 And I do always love ships where both halves are basically competing over who can sacrifice themselves for each other
But honestly all I could see watching that scene - from the injury to the reasoning to Annabeth's proposed sacrifice to Percy's panicked little head shake - was Rayla and Callum from The Dragon Prince down to a T. Which is funny, because Rayllum has always very much reminded me of a less mature (at first) form of Shallura anyway, especially in the first few seasons
But yeah the Percabeth switch scene specifically made me think of Rayla and Callum's scene in Season Two in which she's going to possibly die saving/defending a downed dragon from dark magic dissection, and Callum has this panicked little head shake as well
Interspersed with Rayla saying things like "It doesn't matter what happens to me. Live or die, this dragon goes home" because. we love an overly self sacrificial elf girl with white hair (and just to be clear, this dragon is a Total Stranger to her) and Callum drawing her because he's Worried and an Artiste
Before he goes after her and well, takes the blow, shall we say, by uh, permanently corrupting his soul with dark magic
Callum also winds up having a dark predecessor (the way Shiro did with Zarkon) and arcs surrounding agency, and Rayla comes to help him get to safety after he collapses post-spell. Angry at him, but ultimately concerned/worried
Even though TDP is just like. a Really Good fucking tv show for Every Conceivable Reason (plot, characters, development, queer rep, these two) but I do have a fondness for how these two continue to grow in their attempts to out-devotion each other with shit like "I trust her. Unconditionally" and "the best thing I ever had: you"

OKAY I KNOW IM REALLY LATE BUT this one had me in TEARS percy sacrificing himself with literally no fear??? HOW like this kid is 12 and he’s willing to do ANYTHING for his friends and then the PERCABETH content oh my like the hug and grover started speaking and percy looked so lost in annabeth’s hug???? i literally was crying and then annabeth geeking out over the amusement park and then her part about how she’d never be like the gods again and how percy isn’t AND THEN grover getting into ares’s head and working stuff out UGHH THIS EPISODE WAS BRILLIANT AND some bits were SO FUNNY like “the emotional abuse and cheeseburgers” and “im the last one to work this out aren’t i”!!!! im just in love with this whole thing and IN A FEW SHORT DAYS ITS LOTUS CASINO!!!!!! also end note fuck gabe for that interview and him on about his car like SHUT UP no one cares dude

My thoughts on the PJO Show episode 5:
Not my favorite so far in the way it adapted things, or just general content. I liked that they gave Grover something to do, and the Percabeth moments were on fire today. However, I really wish that they kept the golden spiders, as it sets up Annabeth's fear of them, and shows another side to her. The golden throne thing was very cool, but I think they got out of it a little bit too easily. I get that Haephestus is one of the better gods, but it just seems like they got the stakes so high only to drop them after two seconds. I don't think that Percy should have stayed a statue, obviously, but instead just keep the trap from the book.

I really hope that Grover's guess for who the thief is isn't Luke. That reveal is one of my favorite moments from the book, and if they ruin it, it will leave a bad taste in my mouth for the rest of the show.

Actually offense. The Percy Jackson Tv show had no suspense. Everything was stated out right we never got to wonder or be suspicious/surprised because everything was stated. Some Examples Medusa, The fates, Furies, EVEN CRUSTY FOR GODS SAKES. There was no build up, even the Summer solstice failed. It was supposed to be a DEADLINE but they went passed it and brushed that off in one convo with Zeus. Hades complete mood switch???? Why was Athena so petty?? Like yes Athena is most likely petty but she wouldn’t take a risk like that its, NOT smart.
Dont get me started on the last episode Traitor reveal. NO SUSPENSE No dramatic drop just. “Your the lightning thief..” LIKE BRO WHAT WHERES MY 60 SECONDS.
Im sorry to say this but I wasn’t content or happy with the tv show. Even the Cgi was weird and the fighting was terrible. The sparing they did with Luke and Percy was the best fight scene in that while show… and that is just sad. Even the fight with ARES was underwhelming. Im hoping they’ll take this criticism and really change that for season two I want dramatic drops, build up, TIME TO BREATH. MAYBE EVEN A LONG FIGHT? They drop so much lore and so fast you don’t have time to digest.
Im pissed about the May lore drop WE DIDNT KNOW ABOUT HER UNTIL BOOK 5. ANNABETH WASN’T EVEN ALLOWED INSIDE (or it was just the kitchen I believe) BUT STILL. Annabeth was almost as clueless as Percy if I remember correctly. Even if she wasnt she doesn’t have the right to spill that secret of Lukes like girl what?? Luke shouldn’t have told about Thalia but still at least she was his friend as well but his trauma about his mom was not yours to share also guilt tripping Hermes??
May’s fate wasn’t even really Hermes fault. He tried to talk her out of it and it was Hades who cursed the oracle in the first place. Im just so upset about all the secrets that were revealed early.
The acting didn’t have much emotion or I felt they portrayed it wrong. For instance Percy reacted to almost everything with the same face. The show was way to dry for my liking. Percy jackson is supposed to be funny. Sally kind of seemed like a mean mom iykwim. I mean she just had no patience for Percy at all and it constantly felt like she was guilt tripping him… no just me??? I get that shes a struggling and single parent but Whattt???? She’s supposed to be supportive, kind and loving. If I met that sally I wouldn’t expect her to sit me down in her kitchen offering us a blanket and cookies.
THEY DID GABE FOWL. They did him so poorly that man did not deserve to die sure he was a dead beat but seriously?? Tartarus would not smell like him. They should have just let him get divorced it would have made sense but turning him to stone?? For what being a lazy, grouchy stepdad??
Gabe in the book was abusive manipulated just a straight up Piece of sewer gunk. He HIT them he abused them and manipulated them into staying quiet. The entire scene with the cops and everything. The guy in the show tho?? He looks like he’d fall over from the raise of a hand bro wouldn’t even be able to throw a punch. He doesn’t even have a job?? He looks like the worst he would do is yell and make fun of you because he’s probably projecting because he’s completely useless but deserving death?? He was more of a nuisance he didn’t deserve to die being divorced and alone forever I can’t understand but seriously??
Also the Percabeth slow burn… they’re pushing it they were just friends in the first book maybe in the second we start getting into it. But seriously the first season? She just started opening up to him in the first book. WE DIDN’T EVEN GET THEIR TALK LIKE UGH WHAT I wanted the Annabeth backstory about her dad but they didn’t have the convo about her going home for the summer we didn’t get into it. They’re overcooking my 5 book long slow burn.
They stuffed to much into too short of episodes that we didn’t get time to breath or get to know our characters. It was just a one minute battles here and there, a few conversations about impending doom and Percy being sad about his mom like. I know I’m being Petty but they should have split most of those episodes into two so we had more time to learn about our characters or digest the info dumps. The first episodes had me reeling I swear my head was swirling. The characters themselves didn’t have time to breath “Oh your claimed by poseidon now you have to go on a deadly quest to find the master bolt everyone thinks you stole but we think hades stole it also he probably has your mom.” Why are they shoving everything in our face. Percy in the books had 3 DAYS to come to terms with his parentage but show percy had like a day AT MOST.
I don’t know, they just could have done so well but they didn’t. I swear Mikey mouse must have tied Rick to a chair no way he said yeah this is amazing or a good script decision. THERE WERE SO MANY PLOT HOLES or decisions that didn’t make any sense.

The change for the solstice passing while the kids are in the lotus casino makes sense

I'm worried that some people might see Percy actually being stupid/incapable instead of seeing that it's Percy's unreliable perception of himself
The show did a good job with neurodivergence in the beginning episodes
The pinecone line was Percy questioning Zeus's power, not dissing Thalia
The happy goofy Percy scenes never sat right with me - because he lost his mother 1-2 days ago and we never see him mourn - only be really happy and occasionally angry (at his dad)
