we sure may!!!!! rhythm dump under the cut as always

rhythm man was made to do a variety of tasks relating to sound! mostly he either does sound checks for important devices like hydrophones, sonar, seti listening devices, stuff like that, or he analyses the audio that they pick up in greater detail than any human or almost any computer can. someone [probably dr light, who created him] showed him a rhythm game pretty early in his life, and he instantly fell in love with the game genre and, more significantly, the concept of music itself. he's still doing the job he was designed for, but his real passion and arguably what he's better known for in-universe is creating music, which he uses his intricate understanding of audio to excel at

he makes a point of being a cool guy to be around! he's nice, fun-loving, and always has a joke ready. he's very encouraging of others, and thinks everyone should get to chase their dreams and do what makes them happy. when there's no bright side for him to look on, though, he doesn't really know how to act, and as such he feels uncomfortable confronting serious emotional situations and has a bad habit of repressing any negative feelings he doesn't know how to deal with and just letting them get worse. he might be developing some resentment towards his work for how much of his time it takes up that he'd rather be spending pursuing his interests, but oops that's not a fun feeling! better bottle it up and not think about it

all robots are neurodivergent but rhythm in particular has SO much undiagnosed adhd. he [probably] doesn't mind his job, but he can't pretend to be nearly as enthusiastic about it as he is his music, and tends to come off as distracted and spacey when he's at work. he's also capable of entering a hyperfocus-like state that temporarily re-allocates computing power usually dedicated to spatial awareness and sensory processing to focus on something else, which was designed to let him analyse audio with even more precision. rhythm occasionally uses this feature as intended, but more often finds himself turning it on while he's making music or playing a game to get into the groove more

he'll gladly enjoy any genre of music, but anything under the electronic umbrella is his favourite to listen to and create, especially bass music and all its subgenres! outside of genre preferences he likes songs with a lot of tiny bits and pieces and intricate details to notice - i think he'd really enjoy bill wurtz's music, for instance, due to just how much is going on in almost every song. he posts the music he makes online, and has a pretty sizeable following for both the novelty of a robot that makes music and the fact that everything he makes genuinely slaps super hard. being a robot, his criteria for 'good' music is all very simple and objective stuff like whether it's in key or has a time signature that makes sense or follows a pattern rather than just being random sounds, so he's able to appreciate almost any music for what it is and can name the number of songs he actively dislikes on one hand, although despite his best efforts to be forgiving he's a bit of an audio quality snob

the only sound he genuinely doesn't like is white noise, because the total lack of a discernable pattern or anything notable freaks him out. it's hard-coded into him to try and find meaningful noise in very fuzzy sound, and even if he analyses it back and forth on every level and concludes that it's just random aural static he's still left with a feeling of unease about it. his headphones have a sort of noise-cancelling mode that completely blocks out most background noise so he can maintain a conversation without constantly pausing to overanalyse everything he hears - without the noise cancelling he's got the world's worst case of auditory processing disorder. he's weak to psychic cry because it's just a really violent blast of white noise, and is one of the only bosses susceptible to its stunning effect because the sound freaks him out so badly he has to stop for a moment to force himself to ignore it

almost everything about rhythm came from the idea i had for his stage! i imagine it functioning as a sort of rhythm platformer where almost every moving part is timed to the beat of the stage music. it's the obligatory yoku block-spamming stage of the game, but in theory if you follow the music and jump across in time with the beat you'll make it through without much trouble [and maybe even have fun! in a stage with *yoku blocks!!*]. other stuff like constantly-spawning enemies and the attack patterns of rhythm himself would also be on that same beat cycle! as for theming, his stage is a mostly-vertical climb up a radio tower - wily's reprogramming takes his repressed frustration over not always getting to focus on his passion and upgrades it to outright spite, and he decides that actually you WILL listen to his mixtape whether you want to or not and proceeds to hijack the biggest radio tower in mosteropolis and override every single station with lofi beats to take over the world to

rhythm is the first robot master idea i ever had that wasn't a reference to something else, although for a pretty long time he was only a stage idea and a name. maybe that's why his design changed more throughout his development than any of the other guys [even between the sketch and the final lineart for this art i refined his look like 3 times]. initially he had a more 'tough'/punk-ish look, with spikes on his helmet and around his wrists and ankles, but i ended up phasing most of those elements out in favour of the led lights and generally less intimidating look. i briefly considered having his design reference rhythm heaven somehow, since it's my favourite rhythm game and the only one i'm any good at lmao, but nothing came of that - perhaps his stage enemies could have some rh references in their ranks instead, chuck some screwbots up there or something. he also had massive anime sunglasses at some point but it's better for that design to never see the light of day

he also likes dancing! hence his funky moves in the art. his body shape isn't compatible with every dance style what with the clunky robot limbs and having a stereo for a chest, and he definitely wasn't built for physical agility, but with a little practice he can pick up most dance moves no problem. he's definitely a dance battler, and i think he would love rhythm games that trick you into exercising like dance dance revolution or just dance. rhythm man does a frame perfect ddr tas in real-time on an actual cabinet

Accepted Seneca Animation 2021 Portfolio!!

Hello hello this year I was admitted into Seneca’s Animation program! Here are all of my pieces I included in my application :D

FIGURES

Yeah so advice is PRACTICE LOTS AND LOTS these were some of the first actually kind of okay ones I made (in like early December) and after submitting I DEFINITELY saw myself improve. Minor details. But anyway focus on capturing movement and structure; place importance on line quality and fluidity/smoothness; and of course make sure your proportions are in check. I’d recommend you also familiarize yourself with human anatomy like bones and muscles (mostly muscles) if you haven’t already! Don’t be intimidated by that, surface level will more than suffice. It’s especially helpful for like body checkpoints like the ribcage and how the pectorals transition into the deltoids etc, super super useful to have a general idea of that all in your head when you’re drawing!

HANDS

All the same as figures, you want movement and line quality and some sort of buildup/structure (not too much though, don’t wanna confuse the viewer). Also hands take TONS of practice too, I took reference photos of my own hands and went through so many different attempts. Haha also obviously these were definitely not purely 100% observational contrary to what the requirements said but that’s totally ok if it looks cool and accurate then go for it!

OBJECTS

I think these also kind of sucked lol; like they look fine but not as crisp and precise as some of the other ones I’ve seen. I don’t have much to say about these cause I literally just tried my best but maybe try to pick an interesting object--nothing overly simple like a book or something like that (I did a distortion pedal and Polaroid camera). The point of this section is so they can see how you work with organic and inorganic shapes and geometry. One of the professors made this really good point where a lot of seemingly complex designs like Star Wars spaceships and a bunch of sci-fi architecture are often influenced by everyday items like these—so you gotta learn how to start simple and evolve pre-existing designs into something greater!

LAYOUTS

So then you gotta do a view of a room from one position then like the place opposite to it. I just did my bedroom! Also after submitting I noticed that I drew the floorboards the wrong way in the second image khsfjhk But yeah I took two photos of what I wanted to draw, made a DIGITAL perspective ruler on my primary art program (Clip Studio love them to pieces) and drew the bones there, then I printed that out and went over it traditionally and did all the little details that way. Overall wasn’t too painful. Make sure your perspective is in check and your lines are crisp and readable—even if it’s a busy scene, you don’t wanna confuse the audience. Typically lines in the foreground will be thicker than ones in the background!

Last but not least, for personals I ended up being able to just pick from stuff I’ve already made (I made a compilation of those River Phoenix paintings I’ve made over the years if you’ve seen those, along with the fuckign MLP lineup I did for like a ‘character design’-esque thing (yes I know that counts as fanart and I was hesitant at first but technically they are original human designs minus the colour pallet and also I did not want to make something new with the time constraints) (if you’re doing fanart just make sure it’s not like instantly recognizable or a carbon copy)). I chose these deliberately because I wanted to demonstrate the range I had in my capabilities—so stylized semi-realism with my portraits, and then totally stylized TV show ready character designs to contrast! I personally only chose these two (they only provide two slots), but I know people who just made PDFs of multiple pages of their work. If you do that, I’d suggest to make sure not to bombard them with content, they’re not gonna wanna flip through ALL of it lmao. Choose your best pieces that demonstrate all your strengths! Don’t include things you hate or don’t like drawing, chances are that’ll be obvious to the people who are evaluating them and it’ll hurt your chances.

Then we also had to make a resume,,,,,, I just took my actual resume and swapped stuff out for more of the ‘creative’ activities I’ve participated in throughout my life (ie. runner-up winner for Miku Expo design contest, member of my school’s comic club, was in a musical a couple years ago, etc.).

Enchanted - Adam Sackler (pt. 1)

well well well, look who’s back with a new sackler fic! i honestly don’t know where this is gonna head, im figuring it out as im writing so im not that ahead of you lmao but i’ve been thinking about this concept for a while now so let’s see how it will turn out!

series summary: You are casted as Giselle in the Broadway adaptation of Enchanted with Adam as Robert.

Chapter title: The man

If you had to imagine what a surgeon is feeling right before a super important operation, you’d compare the feeling to the one you always get at auditions without hesitation. The nerves are stretching to the maximum, some can’t even take it, some have odd coping mechanism, the air is thick with tension and rivalry and all eyes are looking for weak points in others. It’s a mixture of feelings that crawls up on your spine every time you wait for your name to be called and find out whether or not you were good enough to make the cut.

This time is no different as you sit in a now emptied out room that was once full of ambitious girls, all of them longing after the exact same thing, a role that would change their lives, but now it’s just the five of you. You see the similarities between yourself and the girls, you are all slim figured and judging from what you’ve seen all of you have some kind of dancer background, especially number three who is eyeing you now with a hard stare, probably deep in her thoughts what would make you better than her while you do the same. You would swear your life she used to be a ballet dancer, it’s radiating from the way she sits and walks, you can just tell it.

It’s way past ten pm and all of you have been here for the whole day, fighting your way through three rounds of audition, each of them testing something different. Singing, dancing and acting, the three compulsory things that need to be perfected if someone wants the role of Giselle, especially since the shoes you’d be putting on with this role are pretty high-end, given the fact that the first and only person to bring life to the character was Amy Adams and she made quite the impression on millions of people all around the world on the big screen when the movie came out.

Looking down at your hands you notice how they are shaking once again and you quickly hide them between your thighs not to show weakness. You can’t let them see how nerve-wrecking this is for you, that’s just not professional, not what you want to project to the world.

Then the door to the auditorium where you had to perform three times today opens and all five of you rise to your feet when the four people who have been judging you all day appear with the piece of paper that contains the results you’ve been waiting all week to know.

“Thank you for your patience, it’s been a very hard decision to make,” Petra, the production assistant speaks up with a warm smile as she looks around. “We wanted to make sure the best person will stand on the stage of Broadway when the curtains open very soon and we were convinced that all of you would be worthy of the role of Giselle.”

You catch a few confused and anxious looks around, and you can almost hear the questions popping up in the minds: so how did they decide?

“But we’ve made a decision, and we would like to thank to everyone for the hard work you put into today.”

Your heart is up in your throat, each beat feels like it pushes the top of your head as you stare at the paper, visioning your name written on it as the chosen one. Petra exchanges a knowing look with the three men, the choreographer Matt, the director Trevor and Lee, the dramaturge before she turns back to us and the final name rolls down her tongue, leaving those perfectly red lips that never stopped smiling all day.

“Y/N, we would like to welcome you to the production of Enchanted on Broadway.”

You gasp and you freeze as your own name rings in your ears and envious stares turn to you from all around the room while you are just standing there, completely shocked that you actually got the part, as if you haven’t been telling yourself it’s going to happen in the past weeks.

“Thank you for everyone, we hope to see you maybe at another audition, because you all have great potential. Y/N, please stay for a little longer so we can discuss the further steps.

You’re going on Broadway, it is finally happening. You’ll be standing on the stage you’ve been dreaming of since you were a little girl, the applause will be yours (partly) every night before the curtains close. You can’t stop thinking about it all through the next about thirty minutes as you discuss every crucial information with Petra, she hands you a schedule and makes you sign some paperwork that already has your name on them. You try to remember everything and when you give them every contact info that’s needed you finally head home.

You can’t help but feel silly when arriving back to your small apartment you put on the movie and watch as Amy Adams sings warmly on the screen with a skeptical Patrick Dempsey and as you hum to the music already knowing most of the songs you wonder who will be your Robert Philip. Petra said the auditions will end this week and you’ll have a table reading on Monday where you’ll be able to meet all the people who will basically be your family for the upcoming months during the rehearsals and once the show opens.

It’s past one am when you finally turn your laptop off putting it away and as you creep your way to your window the nightlights of the city light up your face. Climbing out to the fire escape you listen to the chaotic sounds of the city that never sleeps, watching a group of friends cross the street, spraying champagne to the asphalt, laughing their way into the night. Normally you would find them annoying, but not tonight. You wish them a great night as you dream about a glass of the sparkly beverage in your hand, drinking to your big achievement. Your eyes travel up to the gloomy sky and you let out a wondering sigh, the thought of change embracing your hopes and dreams.

“Okay, big smile!”

You flash your widest smile into the camera Lora is holding up in front of you, holding the coffee she just bought you in your hands.

“Amazing, I feel like a mother who is taking her daughter to the school for the first time,” she jokes putting her phone away as the two of you start walking. “I’m so proud of you!”

“Thanks. I’m really excited,” you smile shyly. First day nerves are bringing the best out of you, it’s been a hard task to get some sleep last night and you only managed to rest for a couple of hours, but the excitement is definitely keeping you awake. Today is your first official day at a Broadway production in a leading role, this is a day you will never forget probably.

“You’ll be amazing and when you are finally famous, we can sell your stuff on ebay and get rich!” she cheers making you laugh. She always sees the most important things in situations.

“Great plan.” Checking the time you see that you really should get going if you don’t want to be late for the reading. “I’ll see you tonight?” you ask her stopping at the entrance of the subway.

“Sure, I’ll swing by around nine,” she nods giving you a quick hug. “Break a leg!” she calls after you as you wave while running down the stairs.

You’re not unfamiliar with the world of theater, but every theater is different and you can never know what to expect behind the scenes. It’s a whole new world on the other side of the curtains and as you walk into the building you feel like a wandering child, soaking in every little detail you see, even though it’s not even that extra like you had imagined.

Arriving to the meeting room you are fifteen minutes early, leaving only just a few people there, the long table with chairs all around it, name cards at each seat is set with water bottles and fresh fruits in bowls, a copy of the script is neatly placed at each seat.

“Y/N! Hi! How are you?” Petra welcomes you rushing over to you with that warm smile of hers, wearing an orange colored flowy dress that goes great with her dark brown locks.

“A little nervous but excited,” you chuckle.

“Don’t be nervous, we are all family now here. Come on, let me introduce you around.”

You meet some of the dancers and background actors, Trevor who you have already met at the audition and Petra also introduces you to the Misha, the costume designer who even shows you some of her sketches for the dresses you’ll be wearing on stage and they all look stunning, like a piece of art each.

You find your name at the table and put your coat to the back of the chair, running your fingers over the cover of the script with a small smile playing on your lips and pulling your phone out you shoot a quick photo of the script and your name tag before checking the names around you.

Right next to you is the one you’ve been most curious about, the name Robert Philip written in small under the name of the real person behind the character: Adam Sackler.

“I think you two will get along well,” Petra smiles at you from the other side of the table, seeing you eye the name tag. “He is—oh, he is here!” she declares, head turning to the door and she is already rushing to welcome the tall man who just walked in.

Adam Sackler is quite a man at first sight. His tall figure, broad shoulders and hair dark as the night make him appear a little dour and stern, but the smile he gives to Petra upon seeing her definitely gives his features a soft touch of warmth. He wraps an arm around her shoulders as they exchange a few words you can’t hear from this far, and you seem to be lost in the appearance of the man you’ll fall for on the stage, but you are brought back to reality when his eyes lock with yours and you notice Petra is turned to you as well. You clear your throat, feeling like a kid that’s been caught doing something naughty when you were just looking at him.

The two of them head in your way and you get yourself ready to meet the man, feeling his eyes intensely burning down at you the whole time he strides over to his seat next to you, Petra walking right beside him.

“Y/N, this is Adam. Adam, meet your Giselle, Y/N,” she smiles and when your eyes meet his again you feel his gaze in your guts. He is the definition of intimidating, expressions unreadable paired with a physique that can’t stay unrecognized.

A large hand extends in front of you, and as your palm touches his, you can’t help but notice the size difference.

“Hi, it’s nice to meet you,” he beams, a tiny smile playing on his full lips, the lips you’ll be kissing soon.

Damn it, get your shit together! You tell yourself as you nod at him in a friendly manner.

“You too, Adam.”

Your hopes of Petra easing the nerves you are feeling from this first meeting quickly disappear when more and more people start to arrive and she leaves the two of you alone.

As your hands let go of each other you still feel the warm touch of his hand linger on your skin, both of you turning to your seats.

“So, have been on Broadway before?” he asks, glancing at your shortly as the two of you sit and he starts flipping through the script.

“No, I’m totally a newcomer. Have you been?”

“Yeah, just once a while back.”

“Any advice to be taken?” you smile at him laying your palms out on the table. He thinks to himself for a moment before turning to you.

“Leave reality behind,” he answers with a smile that seems to be hiding tens of feelings and thoughts, maybe a few stories that you are now dying to hear. Adam Sackler is definitely the person you feel drawn to in many ways and as you turn your attention towards the script, aimlessly flipping through the pages you wonder how many sides of him you will get to know by the time the lights go up on the stage for the first time.

The reading wouldn’t take more than about two hours at most, but with so many people and even more jokes to make it’s hard to stick to the schedule. There is always just something to add, change, comment on and this is what brings the whole team together. By the time the last words of the last page are said out loud, you feel like part of the bigger whole and the nervousness long gone, replaced by true excitement and anticipation to see what’s next.

“Thank you everyone, I think we can all agree this show is going to be magical,” Trevor, the director speaks up when the reading is over and everyone nods in agreement. “First rehearsals on the stage are expected to start in two weeks, I would like to kindly ask everyone to respect the schedule and the time of others. A list of contacts will be emailed to everyone by the end of the day,” he notes before discharging everyone.

You’re soon pulled into a discussion with Clyde, aka Prince Edward and Misha, talking about preferences for the costumes in the field of comfort and practicality, but you find yourself scanning the room for one particular tall figure.

Adam is standing a couple of feet away from you, talking to a blonde woman who has her hands on the shoulders of Janelle, the girl who’ll be playing Adam’s stage daughter, an adorable little sunshine from what you’ve seen from her in the past few hours, very focused and hardworking, she didn’t have one bad word during the whole thing and read her lines perfectly.

“He is quite the sight, huh?”

Misha’s voice snaps you out of your thoughts and you haven’t even noticed that Clyde was already gone. Standing next to you, she crosses her arms on her chest, eyes glued to the man in word.

“He has a great presence on the stage I heard.”

“He does?” you ask glancing at her. She nods, tugging her bright red hair behind her ears, a cheeky smile playing on her lips.

“I mean, he has one in real life too, but the way he appears up there, it’s worth a prayer,” she chuckles. “Good luck with not falling for him.”

“I’ll stay professional,” you sternly state, pushing that little voice in the back of your mind that’s doubting your words.

“Professionalism is the first thing you lose when you find yourself in the arms of such a man,” she smirks at you before walking away, leaving you with a whirl of thoughts circling around what she just said.

Checking your schedule you see that though you’ll be pretty busy from now on, your days filled with singing lessons and dance practices, many of them are solo appointments, but your eyes spot all the times when Adam’s name is written besides yours and you have one almost every day.

Glancing in his way one last time your eyes meet his stare, a small smile playing on his lips that you return before grabbing your stuff and leaving.

“Okay, wow,” Lora gasps as the picture of Adam appears on her computer, it’s from about a year ago, portraying him with slicked back hair wearing a long trench coat as he stares back at a guy intensely on the stage. You sip from your wine as Lora takes a good look at him.

“Yeah.”

“How tall are you compared to him?”

“My forehead is at his mouth, more or less,” you say recalling how tall he looked standing right in front of you.

“That’s a nice height difference, like, you’ll have to tiptoe to kiss him, it’s cute,” she grins at you and the thought of kissing him send a shiver down your spine. You’ve been thinking about that a lot since you’ve left the table reading, the memory of his eyes on you and the words of Misha haunting you relentlessly.

“What’s that look?”

“What look?” you ask quickly straightening your expression, taking another sip of the wine.

“Oh I know this look, the guy is already messing with your head!”

“He is not,” you shake your head, but you can’t fool your best friend.

“Oh hell yes. I don’t blame you, he looks fine.”

Turning back to the computer she starts typing, digging deeper on the internet trying to find more about him as you lean your back against the headboard, hugging a pillow to your chest. You really can’t have yourself fall this easily for a man who you’ll be working with so closely. Adam seems nice and everything you’ve heard about him is quite impressing, but you don’t know what kind of man he really is. For all you know he can be the biggest jerk in all of New York City.

“Oh my God! Look at this!” you hear Lora gasp as she leans closer to the screen. Sitting up you wonder what she found and looking at the tab that’s open there is a short film playing.

Well, it’s not the type you were expecting, because right on the screen in front of you, there is Adam’s broad back in a light colored shirt, his hair a little longer than it is now and he is… fully spanking a girl bent over a work bench, wearing only a white tank top. Your mouth hangs open as the scene carries on in front of you, the girl or more like woman grunts with each hit on her lower half begging for him to go harder as Adam calls her a slut and a whore, making it probably the most disturbing cinematic thing you’ve seen that’s not officially considered as porn.

“I’m speechless,” Lora lets out an airy chuckle as the scene soon ends with the woman jumping into his arms and you realize she is not even wearing any underwear.

“What… was that?” you whisper with wide eyes. Lora types in a few things before she can answer that question.

“It’s a short film he did last year with someone named Jessa Johnson, it was a private project. It says the story is based on events from his own life.”

“So you are saying at one point he spanked some girl he was dating and then he decided to make a movie out of it?” you grimace in confusion. This is definitely not something that you would have ever thought of him.

“Oh, and the juiciest of all is that this Jessa girl was his girlfriend,” she continues reading about the film. “This article came out six months ago, they were together then. It adapts the happenings of his private life, how he dated the best friend of his ex-girlfriend.”

“Okay, that’s pretty fucked up, don’t you think?”

“Depends,” she shrugs as she keeps scrolling. “But this film is definitely a nasty one.”

“I can only imagine what else is in it,” you mumble finishing off your wine and reaching for the bottle you pour yourself some more.

“Wanna figure it out?” she grins and you shake your head no immediately.

“I don’t need inappropriate images in my mind when I’ll be stuck with him at rehearsals.”

Knowing how your conscious works you just can’t take the risk. If he appears in more inappropriate scenes in the film, you bet your life that you wouldn’t make yourself think of anything else when you look at him the next time. The spanking is already more than you would bear with.

“I wonder what else there is about him that we don’t know of,” Lora narrows her eyes staring into the distance.

Adam Sackler has given you way more to think about than you would have ever expected from someone and you haven’t even talked to him that much. His appearance, his words to you and the things the internet is holding about him, it all shows a different person and you can’t decide which one is the real side of him or where he stands if it’s a mixture. You wish you could just ask him all the questions you have about him and get your answers without being judged or have them held against you, but you are left with silent suffering and slow observation until you finally figure this handsome looking mysterious man you’ll be forced to cross paths every day.

Day 254

Edit from last night I didn’t order any Adidas cause it only applied to certain ones and none were good. Also had a weird dream that I gave a repair away and woke up really stressed lmao. But yeah Got up around like 11ish, chilled on couch and ate an apple with peanut butter and then went to the gym around noon. Did chest and then went home and showered. Got ready and stuff and met up with a guy from OfferUp at the mall. Sold him my apple watch (for future self series 6) for $250 (he checked to make sure it wasn’t activation locked which was good of him) and then shopped at bath and body works. Got 2 basic wallflower scents and 3 fall themed ones for $24 and then went to deposit the money and then home. Stayed at home and stuff until Madison called me saying she was good to go after hanging with parents. I think that was around 430ish I don’t remember but I went to her place. Picked up me new keyboard and mouse cause it came super early in the morning and then we left for another mini adventure. I dropped off the stuff at home cause didn’t want to keep in car and then we went to ikea. Main goal was to look at desks cause i’ve been having thoughts of having a shelf for my table. We found a couple options and were brainstorming but didn’t actually bite any bullets today. I did end up getting chopsticks (finally), a little drone art piece for $17 that was in the clearance section, and some swedish meatballs. She got a fake plant and then we thought of food. Originally we were gonna get boba but we got hungry so we contemplated in the car for a bit. Then we decided prolly best in VA Beach and not norfolk since frozen meatballs. Went back to my place and we were still deciding but it seemed choices between sushi and noodle man. I setup my keyboard and mouse for the time being and then we finally agreed on sushi king. We wanted to see if it was really that trash cause we both didn’t like it but it was cheaper than sakura so yeah. We went to the centerville turnpike one and had to wait about 5-10 minutes but we got seated. I ordered a good amount (and of course the waited judged me lmao), I ordered shrimp fried rice with chicken hibachi, crab bites, shrimp tempura kitchen, a tropicana ocean (a salmon and mango roll with like avocado and something else) and a volcano roll for the first round. The kitchen stuff was actually a lot but I was able to finish it with Madison eating a bit of some too. But yeah, 2nd round I ordered chicken nuggies LOL and a spring roll and crab rangoon (only came with 2). I ate all of them and then we got some ice cream. I had a sandwich and a strawberry styrofoam one and then that was it. I dropped her off after and then went home. It took me like 20 minutes to hang up that art piece since I was trying hooks but ended up using tacs and then I was just chillin’ on my computer, playing around with my keyboard and mouse settings and stuff. I just moved to my bed, it’s 1230 now and I gotta go back to work tomorrow so sleep soon

1. First game you played obsessively?hmmmm i wanna say the legend of spyro the eternal night? i played it so much i could beat the whole game in four hours. i’ve heard lots of ppl actually hated the legend of spyro trilogy but honestly they can suck my ass i loved them

2. A game that has influenced you creatively? Writing, drawing, etc.uh besides my answer for anon of skyrim not many games have actually just straight up influenced my art style but i’ve been playing this game called Fe (not fire emblem just Fe) and i really want to draw fanart for it bc it’s super cute if that Counts as influence?

3. Who did you play with as a kid?if this is meant in terms of co-op games nobody bc we didn’t have anyif just in general, my sister for the most part. i’d watch her play things like resident evil and she’d help me with the hard parts in medievil and crash bandicoot warped (read: racing levels)

4. Who do you play with now?myself lmao i don’t rly like co-op and multiplayer games and i prefer to play most games by myself

Any games you have multiple copies of?the sims three and i know you know the reason why but in case anybody else wants to know: i didn’t know they had actually completely changed the game since i had played it last probably a decade ago so i bought it @ walmart this year and then i got mad bc it apparently SUCKS ASS now so in search of a copy of the original version i bought a second one from amazon bc the Image being used WAS of the original case but it really was the new version so now i have two SHITTY SHITTY VERSIONS of a game i used to love that i will never play bc it’s shit except maybe i will bc apparently it has real life music in it just replaced with sims language which is amazing and this response is far too long for the question but i asked u if u were ready so u signed up 4 thisi also have an xbox version of it tht i got for like christmas or smth years ago and a,,,,,, ds version??? that i got last year bc somebody was selling “the original version of the game including every expansion pack” for only like $30 and it definitely said disk version but when i got it it was this Pre-owned Dirty Ds Cartridge Covered In What Looked Like Strawberry Jelly and when i tried to contact them they shut their page down so there’s that which equals four shitty shitty copies of the sims three and i will never be more mad about anything than i am about this

Rarest/Most expensive game in your collection?uh well back when i had a job i spent A Lot of money (to me it was a lot) to get the collectors edition of the last guardian so that would be my most expensive. other than that i would have to say one of the hardest to find (maybe not rare but not common)games i have currently is medievil for ps1 bc it took me like a week of searching to find a copy in good condition online for sale bc i rly wanted to own it again since we had to sell all my old games when we moved to oregon which sucked bc we had a Bunch of cool games (mostly early ps era)

What time do they usually get up in the morning?: usually early or on time, she’s groggy but she at least gets up timely.

What is their morning routine?: Getting changed, brushing hair and usual grooming before she puts on her uniform and has breakfast.

How long does it take them to get ready in the morning?: not longer than an hour even if she is having a sluggish day.

What time to do they usually go to bed?: Depends on a few things. I picture in her lieutenant verse that she’s very hard working and pushes herself and probably has a few late nights at her desk, but I also think that if the squad is quiet she’s more likely to stop for the night. She’ll call it quits or at least bring her work home instead; she tries not to spend too late of nights at her squad intentionally or without a reason or warning.

Do they fall asleep easily? Do they stay asleep easily?: Can fall asleep easily, more so when she sleeps with someone else in her bed, but she also has a wandering mind that gets lost in thought and keeps herself awake if something is on her mind(which can be often). She falls in the middle when it comes to staying asleep; she isn’t a heavy sleeper but will wake up at particular noises above a hushed conversation.

What position do they sleep in?: On her side or back are her favored, she kind of embraces her size a little and curls up.

What is their handwriting like?: fuuu I know I wrote how her handwriting is in some reply at one point but can’t find it so I’ll try to abridge what I remember. Her print is more rounded on the edges, kind of cartoon-y, lacks a sense of sharpness to it; it’s pretty informal but it’s supposed to be :P But with a ink brush she’s a light on the edges, and kind of by the book, the edges fizzle to a faded point as if she’s always aware of the weight of her pen, she tends to be pretty aligned and straight too.

Do they prefer typing things or writing things?: Writing for sure, she loves the feel of a marker or pen than a button “Is it working right?”.

What form of art (i.e. sculpture, embroidery, painting, etc) do they like?: Markers drawings/sketches are her go to for herself, but she likes all sorts of art and is also pretty easily impressed.

Are they an artist themselves? What kind of art do they do?: Of fucking course, yes, she thinks she’s super talented, although we all know she isn’t the greatest. :P She mainly does drawings with markers. She has had the most experience in markers but she has dabbled in others like sculptures and stuff.

What are some of their favorite books?: “Historical fiction” as she refers to it, but it’s just horror manga.

What genres of movies do they like?: Probably like, most movies honestly, anything that’s engaging or involved. I could see her loving animated stuff that’s more cartoony, or even allowing herself to get pulled into a romantic thing(the drama!) as long as people made her stick with it long enough to not be turned off by the cheesy ness. She might be too serious for comedies though and would miss most of the jokes because there are still a lot of things she wouldn’t be able to pick up on since she has a lack of human world knowledge.

What music genres do they enjoy?: As long as it’s not straining to the ear she can be pretty trying. She would probably enjoy a diverse feel, liking the uniqueness and “so human-like ness” of rock(“Oh!” Smacks her fist into the palm of her hand “The feeling of rebellion!”), but also being able to enjoy the gentle-ness of more traditional music, which she has been more exposed to.

What are some of their favorite musical acts?: I don’t think she’s aware of any lmao. Though she would love the dramatic-ness of theater I think.

Are they a musician themselves?: Nah. Not at all really.

Do they enjoy music from certain decades? If so, which decades?: Not particularly. She has more exposure to traditional music thanks to her family, but I think she would be pretty down to clown with more new age stuff and whatnot in an attempt to try and be “hip”.

If not applicable, what do you think would be some of their favorite pieces of clothing/outfits?: Given she does have to wear a uniform most of the time, but particularly her gloves for sure. I always thought they came from her family so their important in that way at the very least! In terms of out of uniform though, it’s said she has a hard time finding clothing that fits, from her size presumably, and her attachment to clothes is rather lacking. I think she has a few kimonos meant for events or occasions that she would turn to instantly and knows she looks good in “I look cute right?” B) but she’s kind of moody on actual favorites.

How much are they willing to spend on clothes?: Used to be nil(thievery?), but she’s accepted upping her class a little with the gain in nobility. So now pretty high for image sake, if anything?

What colors and patterns are prominent in their wardrobe? What colors and patterns do they wear the most often?: cool colors; purples, blues, usually decorated with some sort of flower or another; intricate patterns of morning glories , cherry blossoms(sakura), plum(Ume), Chrysanthemum(kiku)

What kind of clothes do they like?: Her exposure to clothing has been pretty limited to traditional japanese in Rukongai so she has a preference and habits that are particular to looser sleeves and freeing of her legs. Tight or restricting of her limbs is a no go.

If only cause she didn’t have the wealth to worry or have such things in Rukon, and I think it’s a jump enough for her to have nicer clothes and she considers that ‘pretty’. Creator’s update #1

Hey guys! So I’ve decided to start actually blogging on this blog and tell a bit about the various things I’m working on, share WIPs, music I’ve been digging recently etc. I realise that I rarely post anything, so it seems like I’m super inactive - which is totally not true, I just have so much stuff going on and take a long time to finish things, and I’m also pretty picky about what I put up online lol! For the sake of keeping those of you interested in the loop, I’m gonna start this series of creator’s updates in which I’ll update y’all on the progress I’ve made on my various creative projects. The goal is to give an update a few times a month (hopefully lol)!

This past while I’ve been super inactive in the writing department, but very much productive in the art department, so my writing update will be mostly a summary of what I’ve been doing the past few years up until this point.

Mood: Feelin’ real good cuz my parents finally brought my comfy double bed over from my mum’s place this past weekend, which means no more sleeping on the couch yaaaaaas.

Music I’ve been digging recently:

Skye Sweetnam - Boyhunter So, the other day I randomly listened to this song on my way home from work, and I totally realised that Skye Sweetnam is the perfect voice for my character Caitlyn, and this song totally embodies what Caitlyn is all about lmaoooo. (The song isn’t very accurate to the time period Caitlyn lives in, but it’s super accurate to her character essence and personality, and I just find that so lit hahahah)

Fallulah - Out of It This song is basically my MC’s theme song?? It’s performed by a Danish artist and was super popular in Denmark a few years back as it was the theme tune to a Danish tv show (a show I loved!). The lyrics are just so Daniel, it’s not even funny. It mostly fits his mental state at the beginning of Renaissance.

Girl’s Day - Love Again Ugh I just love the tune of this song so much, I can’t really place my finger on it, the emotion is just so great. I love the guitar riff especially, and Girl’s Day is a four member girl group, so it’s one of those songs where I can imagine my main girls Annaliese, Caitlyn, Mary and Serena singing as each member lmao.

Nine Muses - Remember Another four member group now, this song is also one where I can imagine my main girls singing each member’s part lmao, and having that aspect to a song always makes it a little better for me! Forreal tho, this new release from Nine Muses slays, and we all know it. The music video haunts me.

Sistar - Lonely This song makes me sad and happy all at once, cuz I’m not ready to say goodbye to Sistar, but at the same time this ending is probably the best one any fan could’ve wished for because there was no drama or anger, just well wishes and hope for the future. I know these girls will go far, and this song just pulls at all my heart strings man. The melody of the bridge and chorus, Dasom and Soyu’s parts in particular, really works for me. And yeah, Sistar has four members too, and once again I can picture my main girls singing as each member lmao. It’s a thing I have, okay?

Moana OST - We Know The Way + Know Who You Are I recently watched this movie, and while I sorta felt like the plot was a bit rushed and tropey in many ways, I totally adored the visuals and the MUSIC OMG. These two songs are my favourite, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s vocals never miss, and Auli’i Cravalho’s high note is gorgeous! Also dat choir in the background tho, and in context with the movie scene that song just makes me irrationally emotional mkay. (That ending was the best twist ever, it definitely lifted the story up a notch for me!)

Writing

So I’m writing a book! You might have seen me mention it a few times already on here, but I’ve not really shared much insight into my process or what sort of book this actually is (other than talking about characters here and there), and as I’ve not been making huge progress lately (I’m in an art state of mind duuuh), I thought that I’d keep this section short and sweet, with a bit of an introduction into what my book project is all about.

I call it a book project because I don’t feel comfortable just calling it a book when I don’t have rights to publish. Technically my book is a fanfiction based on the horror video game Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and as such I don’t own copyright of the small percentage of my story that features the canon elements. However, I take this as seriously as anyone else would writing their own book, because I’ve poured my entire heart and soul into it, and the vast majority of the content (plot, characters and world) is my original creation. It’s my own little big project lol!

You might be familiar with the game, and even if you aren’t, that’s not a prerequisite for reading my book since everything is introduced and set up just as in any regular book. The protagonist is an Englishman named Daniel, and we know little of his past through the game. I won’t go into too much detail on what the game is about (if you really wanna know, you can look it up), but the point of my book is to explore the protagonist’s life from his childhood up to the events of the game and beyond, and afterwards connect his story to the game sequels featuring other protagonists within the same universe. It’s a bit complex and elaborate, which is just the way I like it!

As the games are set at various points during the Victorian era (game #1 is set in Prussia 1839, game #2 is set in France 1858, and game #3 is set in England 1899), you can probably guess that the entire thing will be pretty long. That’s why I’m making it a series! I have at least seven books planned so far (though there’ll definitely be more, since I’m not near the end of the timeline I need to cover yet), and I currently have the first book written and am writing the sequel - however, the first book will need a complete rewrite once I’m finished with book #2, because I’ve since developed and changed a lot of stuff, and I have many new interesting ideas for a more fleshed out version of the first book. Still, the fanfic version is available online, so if you’d like to read it, you can find it here. You’ll get a pretty good idea of the general story and the characters, but keep in mind that it’s super outdated and will be very different after my rewrite!

For reference, this is the list of books that I’ve planned (and titled) so far, so you can keep up with what book of my series I’m talking about at any given point:

So what I’m doing right now with this project is revisions. Uuuuggghhhhh. Yes, that’s right, I’m stuck in revision hell. I’ve not even finished the first draft of Renaissance yet (I know, sacrilege, writing blasphemy, don’t start your damn edits until you’ve finished your draft dumbass), but I had some pretty major changes to make, changes so big that it would be a waste of time and effort to go on drafting without implementing them first. Mainly the changes are surrounding 1) a change of ages of my main cast (I aged many characters up a few years), and 2) changing and figuring out the specifics of the illness which my MC’s sister, Hazel, is afflicted with. She’s not such a major character in Renaissance, but she plays a big role in Memoirs, and since I had all these new ideas for the rewrite of that, I wanted to implement the ripple effects in the second book so it wouldn’t be too much of a hassle to edit later when Renaissance is a finished 3-400k first draft lmao (I have a lot of words okay?). These changes mostly affect the early chapters of my book - chapters I wrote about three years ago, which means that these early chapters really need a face-lift. In addition to the age and illness change, I wanna revise the first five chapters by cutting the fluff and tightening up the beginning so we get to the action a tiny bit faster. Adding to the fact that these early chapters are three years old, the prose also needs an almost complete rewrite. So long story short, all of the edits are taking a long ass time, and I’m not having a good time lmao. Doesn’t help that I had to stop drafting right at one of the juiciest scenes in my book?!?!? (that’s a lie, it gets juicier, but I was just getting to the real good stuff yanno?)

(Side note: for someone who said that I’d keep this short, it sure turned out long lmao. I just have too many damn words.)

Chapters edited: 2/16 (working on 3 right now and it’s an effin’ pain)

Current total word count: 120,591

Current total chapter count: 17 (the number will go down to 16 once I finish the revisions, as I’m merging two chapters)

Man, I’ve been doing a lot of artwork recently, and by a lot, I don’t mean that I’ve finished any.

I think I’ve been focused on developing my actual drawing skills rather than making finished illustrations, because I’ve been so overwhelmed with inspiration and I’ve wanted to try out drawing a bunch of different motives, so my mind is on a lot of different art projects at once, and I’m making baby steps of progress on each of them because I just wanna do everything lmao. I should probably take a step back and settle on one thing at a time, but at the same time, I feel like this is working for me because I’m so inspired and motivated and super excited for every single art piece; I don’t feel myself losing interest in any of them, in fact I just feel like my switching between different artworks keeps every piece fresh and interesting for me, yanno?

So here’s one thing that I’ve been slowly chipping away at for the past few months. I’m drawing a full body group picture of my main cast from Renaissance!

I’ve drawn the anatomy sketches of all the male characters (though I’m debating whether I should add some others), and now I’m adding the female characters one by one, so these are not all of the characters yet. But man, I just love seeing the characters side by side? The variety in their body language, body types and heights is just so interesting to look at, and it’ll be even better once I get around to actually adding their facial features, expressions, hair, attire, and then colouring them as well omg! I’m a sucker for this kind of thing, blame it on @juliajm15 and her amazing diverse character designs.

It’s gonna be a huge picture with a lot of characters, and I’m stoked for it!! This is a piece which I hope I’ll be able to show ya’ll the progress of bit by bit in every few updates. (also, if you feel somewhat familiar with some of my characters, you’re welcome to make guesses at who’s who (; )

Another project I’m working on is making official character portraits of my main cast (and possibly minor characters as well). I just think it’s nice to have official portraits as reference for anyone who’d like to see what the characters look like, and also for myself for whenever I need to refresh the specific features and expression of each character. It’s just a nice thing that satiates my very Type A personality lmao!

So the characters above are Owen Wright (to the left) , Daniel’s puppy bff with the fluffy hair, and then from left to right I’m colouring the portraits of the Armstrong siblings: Caleb, Caitlyn and Tristan. Their dad is a duke! n.n Caleb is the oldest, Caitlyn the youngest, and Tristan is the bland middle child. He’s a little brat LOL but I still love him.

Also, due to this glorious reference I found, I finally figured out how to draw Daniel. Bless this model, I never knew I wanted Daniel to have big puffy lips, but apparently I do.

He looks actually nice now? Which is nice? I’m amazed. Also his hair? I can never draw his hair, but this looks nice so yay? Also, I dunno why I never draw clothes on him, I guess I’m just lazy lol, but he’s gonna need to wear clothes for the official character portrait soooo... That’s a thing I’m gonna have to do.

Now that I’ve figured out his features, it’s gonna be fun to remodel all his family members accordingly. I sense that he’ll have gotten those cute puffy lips from his mum meheheheh.

I also did some Disney fanart of my two favourite Disney ladies; Esmeralda and Kida <3

I actually never really draw fanart any more, it’s been yeeeaaaars since I did, and when I used to do it, I was always very particular about staying as true to the original art style as possible. But now that I’ve spent the past couple years focusing on developing my own art style, I actually decided not to care about that so much and just draw the characters the way I’m used to drawing my own, and lo and behold - it looks pretty accurate to the Disney style?? I assumed that the characters would end up looking very different, but other than the eyes being smaller I feel like they look the exact same lmao. It’s interesting to me, because even when I used to do fanart, I usually did so of Japanese art and manga, not of Disney or any other western art. Also, I don’t consider my own style very Disney, but it pleases me a lot that the characters look so much like themselves even in my art style! The most important thing to me is to capture the essence of the character anyway, so any fan can recognise the character they love so much n.n

So that’s about it for this round! I’ve been working on other things as well, but I’d rather not disclose them to the public just yet - perhaps later, when I’ve made more progress, or (gasp!) actually finished something!! Bahahah, with the many things I’m working on, hell will freeze over before that day comes. *cries*

1. What kind of toys did you play with as a child?

Well, I LOVED Barbies. I liked play-doh and puzzles and building blocks. I also remember a tent my godfather got me for my birthday one year, it was probably the most exciting gift I got as a child. Oh! I would play dress-up with my mum’s clothes, or my grandmother’s. Um, not a toy exactly, but I used to love climbing a really thick rope that my grandfather secured to the ceiling in my granparents’ house. It was super fun, I would climb on and swing around on it. I loved climbing stuff as a kid, I would regularly climb anything I could get away with: furniture, statues in parks, trees, fences, railings, you name it. Basically, I played with everything and anything I could get my hands on, I wasn’t picky.

2. Favorite article of clothing you have ever owned?

Ahhhh, maybe my 12 cm high platform shoes I had from when I was 17 until my early twenties? I only stopped wearing them when they were too visibly worn down to be acceptably worn in public.

3. Piece of writing/art/creative project you are proudest of producing?

See, this one is hard because I’m not much of a content creator. But thinking back, I remembered I used to take this... crafts class? when I was 12 or so, and I made some awesome stuff there! I still have them stashed somewhere. I’m especially proud of the realistic ceramic hand I made, and the... small formless abomination that was supposed to be this ever shifting eldritch blob of pain and suffering forever immortalized in clay. It wasn’t my finest work from that class, but I feel it may have been my best work from that class.

4. Favorite family member (including family you choose)?

Ugh, this one is a little terrible, I feel bad picking favourites but... my sister, hands down.

5. Favorite quote?

6. How many hours a day do you spend on the internet?

Too many. It depends on the day, but at least 3 or 4, generally. Less when exams are looming, more whenever I can.

Most of them, lmao. Twitter and Pinterest come to mind. I kind of get Instagram, but I hate taking pictures of myself, hence why I don’t use it.

Snails. Anything that could be considered a bug. Arachnids. Um, I’m trying to think of more common ones, but I’m coming up blank.

Once! And I was passably good, I think? It depends heavily on the song, though. I rocked out to ‘We’re not gonna take it’.

10. How long does it take you to get up and ready for the day?

I get up extra early to have a leisurely breakfast whenever I can, but I need 15 to 20 minutes minimum for the bare necessities. Otherwise, an hour, hour and a half. I’m slow to feel human in the mornings.

11. What motivates you to get through the hard days?

Whatever works, honestly. Sometimes it’s thinking about something small I’m looking forward to, like a show I got tickets to, or plans to hang out with a friend, or a movie that’s coming out soon. I do rely on the general sense of ‘this too shall pass’, but in the heat of the moment I tend to distract myself. I don’t really have one thing I think about that motivates me, though I tend to fall into nihilist-type thoughts (“nothing matters anyway, human existence is meaningless”, etc.) and try to put things in perspective (”no one cares you said that one stupid thing that one time, societal expectations are ridiculous and not always based on reality anyway,” etc.)

man oh MAN i hope you are ready for me to ramble a lotso about food + toy stores. please forgive me if you have any food sensitivities i am not remembering :’(

I have pretty large gaps in the galleries/fine art/spiritual side of things, unfortunately, as THERE IS NEVER ENOUGH TIME TO DO WHAT I WANT. My experience is void, and I hope to grow it in the future SO FOR NOW I HAVE MANY SUGGESTIONS IN THE VIDEO GAME AND ANIME PLASTIC CONSUMERIST/FOOD-GUY GENRE OF THINGS (e: a friend might amend with good galleries and stuff, so keeep yr eyes peeled!)

Ima keep this public as my general DONUT’S TOKYO TOP PICKS list lmao

Shinjuku is my home base usually, as I like Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku- the location can’t be beat! Shinuku is really fun to walk around and sort of get an early feel for things but I don’t have a ton of ~musts~ there. My favourite katsu place is there, across from the aforementioned hotel I usually stay at.

A bit out of the way, but Artnia is fun if you care about having chocobos printed on pancakes. It’s kind of quiet and low-key, but all the merch there is pretty much what you can already find on the Square Enix website.

YOU MUST GO TO SEKAIDO. Three floors of art supplies! It’s interesting to see the differences between the Japanese and North American art markets- brands that are popular stateside are present in Japan but in very different packing, and everyone seems to manufacture an acrylic gouache. Acrylic gouache is the shit in Japan. The bottom floor has too many fun stamps and branded-pencils and washi tape. It’s so lovely.

A lot of people recommend the Golden Gai as an ~experience~ but I don’t drink, so I’ve never gone.

Honestly, I’ve spent a lot of time just failing horribly in the arcades around Shinjuku station 😅😅😅

Akihabara is overwhelming. There’s so much going on and it’s hard to feel like you’ve even scratched the surface. After spending a whole day there I realized I had visited four, maybe five shops and lost myself in a sinkhole of One Piece resale merch (gotta get ‘em Kakus).

It’s so big it feels impossible to find the more niche things when every storefront you pass is just a sea of thousands of itty bitty little bags of One Piece resale, haha.

I found some gems in Akiba Cultureszone, though. The ground floor Animate is kind of shit, and the second floor Lashinbang immediately drove me away with moe hell, but the third floor is a sweet spot of resale shops where you can find some really cool shit- I bought most of a set of cryptid capsule toys there, and gnawed on my own hand over the want to buy some exclusive Ghostbusters merch?

The Cospa Gee store is a smallll space, but Cospa makes some pretty cool stuff, so it’s worth a look. It’s also on top of a retail space that is entirely capsule machines and it is so good, so good.

Super Potato is pretty highly acclaimed vintage game store, buttttttt your mileage may vary: they straight up ignored my sister when she tried to buy a game, and I found the shelves pretty dusty and barren.

It’s worth it to head to Sunshine City in Ikebukuro and spend some time at the Pokemon Center. Sunshine City also has an aquarium that is fun to look at but maybe a little suspect on the animal welfare front :x

Directly across the street from the Starbucks-side of Sunshine City is the Ikebukuro Mandarake, which is just an overall good decision to visit: this one is alllll doujin, and it’s not all filthy but it is all cheap. I love buying doujin, it’s so neat to be in a space full of tangible artifacts of pure fan-enthusiasm.

Due to my dad’s illness our last trip I missed Odaiba so I can’t speak for anything there sadly :x

Harajuku is my favourite place to visit. Get off at Harajuku station, meander down Takeshita and enjoy the loud poppy fashion hell, and then keep going a little further and just… meander. There are so many amazing little shops down there in the sweet little side streets. Stop by B-Side Label. Amazing stickers! I spent like $100 on them.

Off the side streets, Kiddyland is fun, and not too far from there is Dominique Ansel Bakery, which is always packed but is also??? fucking magic???

Also in Harajuku is Good Town Doughnuts, which is possibly one of my favourite places in the world. Their Blood Orange donut is really all i want out of life.

Shibuya is a place you’ve really got to wander and find what you want- I visited a lot because the One Piece store is there (IF U CARE, it’s in the Marui dept. store- the place that says OIOI on it.)- but they’ve got an amazing Tower Records. And please say hi to Hachiko ❤️

The basement floor of a lot of department stores are AMAZING AND BEAUTIFUL FOOD MARKETS- my favourite, right at Shibuya Station, is Tokyu Food Show. PLEASE GO HERE IT IS SERIOUSLY SO GOOD. I bought croquettes from a shop in one far corner, scarfed them cold, and then cried.

Nakano Broadway is an aging trash mall that got eaten up by the hobby resale chain Mandarake- they have like twenty shops in this mall with varying hyperfocuses. It’s a good place to find some older treasures, and just gawk. I found some Final Fantasy VI keychains in a shop here- that’s shit’s from 1994!

Also, it is the main setting of Digimon Cybersleuth, which is kind of fucking amazing.

A few blocks up from Ebisu station is Blacows, the best burger I have ever eaten. They never disappoint. (Get a side of the fried chicken- best karaage I’ve ever had!!)

Chains you will see everywhere and might want to visit: Animate, Tokyu Hands, Taito Station Arcade.

Please eat and drink everything that even slightly interests you in convenience stores, you WILL not be disappointed. also mcdonalds has soft serve floats in coke and ANTIFREEZE GREEN “MELON” SODA. they are amazing

“Gallery walk” the @whateverJewel interview

Man, what can I say about Jewel? @whateverjewel is an independent artist that currently resides in the Washington, DC and attends Howard University. From the time I laid eyes on Jewel in 2015 in the pre-calculus class we shared, (if you are reading this FUCK YOU MS. VALENT) I knew she was someone special. Something about her draws people to her. With a smile that will brighten a room Jewel is nothing short of a superstar, and I have felt this way since before I even knew she was an artist. Her approach to art is simply amazing. She has built a grassroots following of people who genuinely enjoy seeing how her work progresses and what the final product will look like. The work she does isn't just dope as fuck, many of her pieces have some type of meaning or inspiration behind them. Not only does she draw and paint she also makes clothes. I'm currently in the process of grabbing me an exclusive one of a kind shirt from her myself. Jewel is definitely someone you should take an interest in, even if you aren't the artsy type, I'm sure you will find something you can connect with even in the slightest. First things first, Who are you?

“so! I'm me because well...i am. lmao my names jewel so what more can i really say???? honestly im really just a regular schmegular bitch who likes Netflix and eating and napping and drawing.

When and How did you get your start in making art?

i was always making art lol, my preschool and my first grade teachers told my mom i was going to be an artist so i really can't pinpoint how it started. it just did and it just is”

Who are some people who influenced your early work?

“my early work is, like i said, as early as preschool lol. so like my laterish work, more towards highschool, because i taught myself to really paint, like more seriously around that time...and my life honestly just sucked lol. so i pulled alottttt from that; id rather have my pain inspire me than hinder me”

Who are some mentors of yours?

“i had no real mentors (because honestly my life and my interactions with others inspire me most) until my senior year when i won a scholarship to have a personal visual arts mentor...and he was so great! he was all about showing me how to be myself and still grow as an artist and i loved that. now i have all these bomb ass professors for mentors and they teach inside and out of the studio and i love love love how much they let you build a personal relationship with them, especially bc all of my mark ass racist ass high school art teachers were awwwwwful. they didn't care about me or my visions and intentions. so fuck em ;)”

If you had to describe your art in 5 words or less how would you describe it?

“ok 5 words to describe my artttt: crazy, sexy, kewl, chillin, etc? naaaah deadass um, personal, expressive, colorful.....imma stick with sexy and kewl lmaooo’

What words of encouragement do you have for aspiring artists?

“for inspiring artists? literally nike shirt that hoe and just do it!!! dont fear anything, just dive in head first. the key to that is to delete any expectations you have for how your work should/shouldnt look because honestly that fucks you up. never compare your work to others, you are your only competition. be better than YOU!!!! and when its time to "decide what you want to do with your life" after graduation or whatever, art IS a legit thing to do with your life!!!! dont ever let a single person make you deny that“

What are you currently studying in school?

“im currently a painting major at Howard university and its funny because, like, when people found out i was going to Howard and moving to dc they were super lit for me...but when they would ask my major and i would tell them painting, its like they weren't as excited for me anymore. like my major wasn't good enough. but I'm the type of artist who knows what the painting will look like before ts done, and in that same right, i know ill be successful regardless of the process.”

How supportive was your family in your decision to pursue art?

“my fam is SUPER SUPPORTIVE!!! even though neither of my parents are artistic, they never ever ever made me feel like my art wasn't important or realistic. i have so much supplies from years of asking for bday and Christmas gifts and them understanding that art was just simply my thing. my parents both pushed me super hard in school and that gave me drive in an artistic sense as well....like I'm motivated so much because they're so poppin. i couldn't do it without them, and I'm the only child, so id like to think they couldn't do it without me either lmao“

I see you make clothing as well, tell me about The Naughty list. How did it start and who were some people that influenced you to make clothes?

“YO THE NAUGHTY LISSSST. funny you should ask. so i went to this panel on design at school, and the presenter basically was suggesting how doing "bad" things makes for a much more creative mind. its like theres more thinking and planning and plotting and scheming...and when those that exercise that same enegy channel it into creative activity, its soooooo much more powerful. and that intruigued me like crazy bc, trust me, im living proof. so i openned up this suggestion box and told people to confess their absolute WORST BEHAVIOR. and so i had it going for about two weeks, then i compiled the list and divided them all into two main categories of sin: lust and indulgence. the stories/confessions for each category that reeealllly stood out, i turned those into specific images. the ones that were left, i hand wrote them, and used them as the texture for the background”

When you sit down to a blank canvas where do you pull your inspiration from?

“when i sit down to a blank canvas, i dont pull inspiration from anywhere in that moment. im allllways getting inspired, literally once i draw the canvas sketch, im already inspired and ready as hell to go!!! i have this desktop folder and google drive folder and album on my phone titled "inspo" so whenever i see anything remotely interesting, i save it so im sure not to forget....bc im usually pretty in my own world and get kinda forgetful lmao”

What can people expect from you this year?

“this year? who knows lmao. expect new clothes and art for purchase...but thats all i got for ya for now ;)”

10.20.19 - brutally honest

Hi W!

I’m not entirely inspired right now, but I’ve been thinking throughout the day, since I was inspired, and want to be able to write some stuff and articulate things. I’ll respond your previous post after I’ve written out my new content.

First thing, I spent these 4 days of bed rest binge watching a Kdrama, a rom com that I absolutely adore to bits! I just finished and my heart is AH <3. It’s called Fight My Way and reminds me of bits of pieces of Strong Woman DBS and Weightlifting Fairy. It’s got a strong female lead (the 2nd lead is also strong in a subtle way), and it’s about two best friends (since childhood) who eventually fall in love. It’s so sweet! And it’s completely my style haha, I’ve seen too many Kdramas at this point, I recognize most of the actors lmao. ANYWAYS, this drama brought me through an emotional rollercoaster over these couple of days, because the really main point of the show is about 4 twenty-somethings navigating their life, dreams, and relationships. Most of them were stuck in some menial, daily life grind job, and were not getting to do what they really loved at the beginning of the show. I felt super reassured cuz Kdramas tend to have 28/29 year olds still struggling to figure out their life, so it just helps me feel comforted. Seeing some of them in their day jobs, and hating it, but doing it because they have to earn money, was SO friggin relatable. One of them did customer service for a bit and was yelled at over the phone, and boy I almost cried from relatable that moment was. Watching them face their fear to follow their dreams, and fail along the way, but still persist, was honestly so moving to watch. It’s a more realistic show, and they did face a lot of failures. The main female lead had to go up against many applicants who had prestigious backgrounds like studying abroad or come from rich families, and she was continuously rejected, but she persisted and found something else that she loved to do. I will now tie in how this Kdrama feels so relevant to my life right now...

I named todays post “brutally honest” because I want to take this chance to be properly honest with you, once and for all, about how I feel my life. I added “brutally” because, honestly after spending 4 days alone in my room on my bed, it gives me a chance to clear away distractions and thoughts about daily life, to really self reflect. I could spend these days thinking about things I normally think about, but I’d usually run into life distractions that’d make me stop. It’s also brutal, because my thoughts can get pretty dark. But I’m trying not to see them as dark, but rather just being brutally honest about my life. You get a slice of what my journal entries look like :P

I am SO uninspired by my life in the Bay Area. If I think too much about it, I think I might be pretty miserable? The only reason I don’t think I’m super miserable on the daily basis is because I have distractions and I try not to think too much about it. But the truth is, I think my life is miserable, and to look at my own life, I hate myself. I’m actually growing so much hate for my current life, that I feel motivated to grow and cultivate a future that will never let me have to relive this life again. Combined with these health complications and my tendency to live life thinking “life’s so short, u never know when ur gna die”, I just don’t think the life I am living right now is worth living, if my life is truly going to be short. Some of the characters in Fight My Way go through this experience, and confront the misery they had (except they were living it for 5+ years - throughout their early and mid twenties). I don’t know how much you know, or how much what I say has impacted you, because I try to keep it low key, but I really really really really hate my life here. I just REALLY REALLY hate it. I hate what i’m doing for my job. I hate what the Bay Area is full of. I hate being surrounded by the energy here. I do NOT want to be here. And tbh I think I would be like this in any big American city. I would be like this at any corporate job. It’s not where I am working specifically, it’s not the Bay Area specifically, but I am just so so so UNinspired. I know for a fact I am capable of being inspired and feeling motivated, and yet I feel like I am wasting my days away. I am literally just here to earn the minimal money I can so I can get out of here as soon as possible. I think I am capable of getting through each day because I can lie to myself for the short term. That I’m learning... or I have great coworkers... I’m so lucky to live here for the rent I pay... I live a comfortable and privileged life - okay those are not lies, but tbh don’t think I’m learning much at all. In order to get through the next 7 months, I think I have to numb myself. And the only reason I’ve been able to get this far (1.5+ years), is because I lied to myself about all the things I want to accomplish and I am able to do here. Ok, saying that I lied to myself might be a bit brutal, but I did have to convince myself why I should have come here, get the jobs I did, and be here. Some days I can appreciate the things i’ve gone through and learned, and I think I had to have been here to go onto what ever is next for me. But just so I can make it very clear... I hope to Never. Ever. Ever. EVER. Return to the life I am living now. I can only go up from here, based on my own standards. I will return if I absolutely, financially, need to again, but god I really hate the tech world. I hate that I have to spend my everyday life pretending to like it and be enthusiastic about it (it’s hard especially when I’m interviewing candidates and I have to say how excited and how much i love everything sigh). I am SO SO SO SO SICK of myself for what I put myself through the past (soon to be) 3 years. I so sincerely hope that once I hit June 2020, that will be the end of this phase for me. What’s next? Who knows god what. (Well, I have some ideas, but I will reveal them when I am a bit more ready).

Ok. That was my brutally honest vent about how I really actually feel about my life. I effing hate it. But I can only pretend not to hate it for a few more months. It’s really hard, to not feel like I can ever be my true self, that I don’t even know what my true self is, I just know that my everyday right now is not it. On a related note, I also don’t feel the most comfortable living where I am right now, because it feels like it’s owned and dominated by someone else, you know? Another future goal is to finally live somewhere I can truly feel at home and I can be myself in too. The closest I have to feeling that way about a home was living with H, but otherwise, everywhere I lived was always owned or shared with someone else... I cannot wait for the day I get to have my own space, my own kitchen! and I get to dictate wat the heck I want to do with it.

All of this is linked to the Kdrama, Fight My Way, because the characters went through something similar to what I am going through now, and I found it inspiring how they got through things and how happy they are. Also, just btw, the main characters are considered “not normal” in the society they live in, and there were a lot of lines emphasizing “Live the life you want to live. Don’t look at how others are living. Live the mainstream life that is for YOU”. So yeah :’)

My Responses to your last post: - thank you for sharing me the thoughts and feelings about your age and how that plays into the relationships you have. I wouldn’t say I have personally experienced that. I am hyper conscious of age, but actually of when people are younger than me, rather than the other way around. It’s because I think about what I was like when I was at that age, and think of how different I was (even like now vs when I was 19). I didn’t know you did an art camp with 17 year olds when you were 12! That is quite the gap. I can see why you would want to hide your age. I know that when I was traveling, most people were older than me and they were usually surprised at my age when I told them, but I would get compliments for being mature for my age. I’d imagine the same would happen for you. It’s interesting how your mom wanted you to hang out with older folks to “improve” yourself, because you’re right, older folks can also be very immature... I mean, is your aunt (w/ the wechat name) someone you want to have mature conversations with? lol - I agree with your therapist that “responsibility” can be redefined. I lean more to the letting her stumble and make mistakes kind of responsibility, because she needs to grow up and see the world for what it really is to learn her lessons.

Aight, my turn to try to sleep. I hope to make it physically to work tomorrow! Because tbh I feel bad for missing so much of work this month. But I also could care less at this point... because of what I wrote about in this post lol.

Belated Coachella

Busted a hella suicide mission to Coachella since Azn found a super cheap Friday ticket. I wasn’t planning to go, but I saw Friday’s lineup, and I was like omg this is a perfect day for me. I want to go now ): Made the decision on Wednesday to go and srsly screamed and jumped up and down with joy so much. Music festivals are so fun. The weather was gonna be agreeable at Coachella. We didn’t have to camp. This was gonna be awesome! Tried coke for the first time, it’s not so bad. I thought it’d be a harder drug and more intense, but it just made me really alert and like I needed to do something. I could hardly sleep that night, so I woke up early and was awoken by Azn anyway abt Yodel boy ugh. Anyway, got dressed, was really hungry, went to get brunch. Then got ready, and off to Chella. It was a bit hot, but not too bad. I really wanted to see Moses Sumney, he was a non-negotiable for me. So I parted ways with the guys and ran towards Moses Sumney. Turns out his set started late, so I don’t think I missed too much. He didn’t perform Doomed, which I was gutted abt. I’m not sure who I saw next. But I saw Kali Uchis, I’M OBSESSED. She’s so hot and so fuego, she is so sensual!! Afterwards, Johnny got his lobster roll and we watched Daniel Caesar during golden hour, and I s2g that was set took my breath away, and it’s still one of my fave festival moments ever. I just felt all my problems slip away, and I was so seduced by his voice. Ugh PERFECTION. I still wasn’t hungry, but I knew I had to take the pill soon. I think I just refused to eat and ate a popsicle stick. Took the pill and it hit perfectly for Kygo. It took abt an hour, and we were all sitting by some art pieces. Kygo was super fun!!! I loved Kygo as always, and we were all peaking then. When he brought out Ryan Tedder and I heard Apologize. I think I LOST MY FUCKING MIND!!! MY!!! FUCKING!!! MIND!!! I LOVE THAT SONG AND I LOVE RYAN TEDDER!! *sobs forever* Afterward, we wandered over to St. Vincent since we were all rolling. Jason asked me at least 9x who it was. Her set was so awesome!! So dope, she’s so fierce and commanding. I loved the shit out of it. I took the other half of the molly. I was pretty good for Sza. I’m so glad to have seen the girls there bc I at least had someone to sing the lyrics with. Also P’s bf was being annoying as fuck and he legit thought I was P, so he kept asking me weird questions and hovering by me. I was SO ANNOYED!!!! Had so much fun during the set. Then we went to the French DJ JMJ, and I was feeling the comeup really hard, so I kept chain smoking. I was over the music, so we walked to DO LAB, wasn’t feeling the music, went to REZZ at Sahara. Honestly, everything was making me want to die and was so overwhelming for me. We were also WALKING SO MUCH, my poor body couldn’t handle it anymore. So we finally ended up at Gobi to watch Bahamas bring out Snoop Dogg. WHAT THE FUCK LMAO. I remember I took out my gum and put a new piece in, and it was the most disgusting taste/feeling ever. I felt it fall apart in my mouth, and I felt every hair fiber and it felt like disintegrating wet sand in my mouth. I was like Johnny, I need to sit down, so I just rested on him. We were both exhausted. Then I was like I’m feeling pretty unwell and sick. We decided to just leave then I started to hurl. I was hurling water and saw two guys peeing against the bush. After I threw up, I felt fine and was like fuck I’M SO COLD!!!! OMFGGGG. I was holding J’s hand the entire time too, so I finally let go. We walked to the busses line and OMG LONGEST LINE/WAIT OF MY SAD/TIRED LIFE. Holy fuck, it was so long and it took 2 hours to get onto the bus. I just remember looking at everyone’s eyes, and they were all so zombied out and everyone’s pupils were so fucking dilated. Everyone looked like a sad ass mess. I was standing, but I was so exhausted, I have never felt more tired and depleted in my life. I was telling J, dude I can’t even stand, I want to sleep. Please. I’m using energy reserve that I don’t even have. I just felt like I was in another dimension in the worst way. I thought for sure I was going to wait. That 2 hour wait was the worst thing EVER. Finally, we got to the bus, and I was like Nat, keep it together, you’re so fucking close!!! When we got onto the bus. I collapsed onto the windowsill and J onto me. We knocked the fuck out. No one on the bus talked. We got home, J called the Lyft. We got back and I felt so exhausted. I went to sleep, but couldn’t really sleep. My brain was firing on 15000 cylinders. I didn’t know whether or not I was in reality anymore. I kept telling myself 2 + 2 = ??? and I couldn’t figure it out. It was just all galactic in my dreams and I was like I can’t control my life and brain. And It wouldn’t stop spinning. Finally, I looked at my phone and it was 7 am, so I went to the rr and could barely make it. I sat down by the toilet, head spinning like crazy. I threw up finally. I don’t think I slept until 7 bc my head was so fried. I was so exhausted but couldn’t sleep. In the morning, I woke up dead and I texted Johnny to bring my juice and coconut water etc. I finally got out of bed and I was like omg my eye hurts like crazy, and it feels like I’m getting stabbed/it’s burning. I had to ice it the entire time. Turns out I was dying bc Johnny blew and ruptured my eye from the night before by blowing the Vicks into my eye. Omg during Kygo, after he blew it, I teared up for 5 mins after the violent pain I experienced. Holy shit. Party FOUL AF. Anyway, I felt bruised and battered, but they left for the festival, so I drove home. I was so tired 20 mins into the drive and I could no longer see and I was low-key hallucinating, so I just pulled over to nap for a couple of hours at some random plaza. Worst 12 hours of MY LIFE. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN MORE PAIN, I NEVER WANT TO EXPERIENCE THAT MUCH PAIN EVER AGAIN. But also best festival day ever!!!!! EVER!!! So fun, lots of regrets tho.
