The coffee shop had perfect coffee and a wonderful view. Your friends surrounded you and some of them were close. So close that he had to clench his fist to not break that arm around your shoulder. He didn’t like when someone else touched his belongings. The urge to lock you in and hide from the whole word was wandering in his mind. He warned you. He warned you so many times before. He didn't like your stupid friends. Why would you need them anyway? You had him and he was enough. How could you be so carefree, letting them touch you while knowing it drove him insane? Why couldn't you understand that you're his and his only? Was that how you welcomed him after his long mission: Ignoring him and chatting with your friends instead? It was supposed to be just the two of you, not your stupid friends constantly stealing your attention from him. He squeezed his eyes shut and took a deep breath to soothe his violent thoughts about the arm around your shoulder. Once he was feeling calmer, he approached you. When your eyes met his you knew something was wrong. You shrugged off the arm around your shoulder as you swallowed thickly. He leaned in and whispered to your ear. “I’m tired.” a wave of relief washed over you when he talked you with a sweet tone, you still couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. Despite the feeling, you smiled and waved goodbye to your friends.
The moment you walked through the front door, he immediately locked up and hid the keys. Your brows furrowed in confusion and anxiety as you watched him closely. "König, what are you doing?" you asked, nervous as your gaze locked onto him. "I don't like them." When he crossed his arms and leaned against the wall, his huge arms and veins made your heart skip a beat. "Who are you talking about?" you mumbled, feeling even more nervous as you grasped at the sides of your shirt. His gaze lowered to your hands and then back up to your eyes. He sensed your anxiety and was annoyed that you were standing away from him. If you ask him the best way to calm down was letting him take the control of everything. “You know who.” his tone was calm but cold and distant. It made you even more nervous. You felt like you did something wrong. You felt guilty but you didn’t stepped back. “Care to explain why you don’t like them?” you crossed your arms, imitating him. One of his brows raised and he looked you up and down. The sudden attitude taking him by surprise. “Because…” he sighed and sat on the couch. “They stole your attention from me. I want you all for myself.” he said casually. Before you could say anything, he grabbed your hand and pulled you into his lap, making you straddle him as your legs wrapped around his waist. You tried to get up but it was useless against his strength. "I can't just ditch them and focus on you." you said, rolling your eyes. His attempt to stay calm and patient was failing miserably as you got on his nerves. "Mine." he growled into your ear, squeezing your thighs tightly, his frustrations growing. “Let go of me.” you scowled when he grabbed your thighs harder. “Du gehst nirgendwohin.” (You’re not going anywhere.) he growled. He was risking everything to just to be with you. And yet you’re here arguing with him like the brat you were. You continued to squirm, testing his limits. He took a sharp breath with irritation. A hard slap landed on your face, making your ear ring. It was the last thing you’d expect. His large, calloused hand caused too much pain that your lips quivered and eyes filled with tears. when you surrender König kissed your cheek softly. “Do you understand now, Maus? I don’t want you to be close with them. You’re only mine.” he whispered. You nodded. He leaned in and kissed the mark he left on your cheek. “Du bist mein.” He mumbled rapidly and kissed it once, twice, three more times, as if to apologize for hurting you. “Such a good girl.” he purred in delight when you submit him. His hands caressed your back as he kissed wherever he could reach on your face and neck. Showering you with kisses before he ruin you.
You wanted to run away but you couldn’t bring yourself to leave him. He was your everything. The thought of living without him made your heart ache. Even if he hit you, you knew he loved you and cared about you deeply. He just wanted to keep you safe, right? You hesitated to understand his morals after what happened today. Your body trembled ever so slightly and he noticed it. He noticed everything about you. Any subtle movement would catch his eye. He adjusted your position on his lap. Now you were leaning back against his chest and your legs were draped over his. "Are you afraid of me, Maus?" He whispered into your ear. "I'm not." you murmur with a pathetic attempt to sound tough, but your voice is almost above a whisper. “You should be." he responded, wrapping his big arms around your waist and pressing your back against his chest tight. Your breath hitched. You felt so small as his body covered yours, like a warm blanket. The sting of his slap still lingered on your cheek even after all those kisses. He doesn't regret it. In fact, both of you know you deserved it. You should’ve known better than making him jealous.
He kept holding you in his arms with iron grip, as if he was afraid that you'd leave. He was indeed afraid of someone stealing you from him. “Do you love me, Maus?” his whispered. Your body tensed when his hand slide down your body. His face was buried into your neck, his lips pressed to your pulse. You knew where this was going. König had a strange way to punish you, very strange. But tonight was different. His hands weren't gentle as they were before. It took you long to respond. He didn’t liked it. The room was quiet but your heart was beating loudly in your ear. “I love you.” you finally breathed out. His grip loosened ever so slightly. He smiled against your neck. “Ich liebe dich auch, Maus.” he whispered and kissed your pulse. He always loved the feeling of your pulse under his lips. You trusted him enough to be vulnerable with him even when you knew he could break a man’s spine without effort. It gave him a feeling of control over you.
Eventually his hands arrived at destination. Your back arched against his chest but he pulled you still with one of his arms around your waist. “But i still need to teach you a lesson, Maus.” He tugged your pants down revealing your cute little cunt and panties. His middle and index finger rubbed at your clit through the thin fabric of your panties making you squeeze your thighs together. “Nein, Maus. Open them wide f’me.” he whispered in a threatening tone. You did as he said. Who you were to deny him? He kissed your pulse again. The room was now filled with your little whimpers. His eyes never leaving your pretty cunt to watch how wet it got when he played with you. “Always so sensitive.” he purred. How do you think he would let anyone touch you when you were this responsive? What if they -even accidentally- made you feel like he did? The thought of another man or woman touching you made him see red. He ripped your panties and shoved his fingers into your tight hole. Like he was in a hurry to prove you he was the best. His fingers curled inside your walls and hit all the spots he knew by heart. Your back arched and hands grabbed his forearm but he bit your shoulder making you let go immediately. “Braves Mädchen, let König take care of your needy cunt.” he mumbled as he fingered your dripping hole in a brutal pace and rubbed your clit with his thumb. The pleasure was too much to bare. You tipped your head back on his shoulder. His gaze turned to your face and he watched how your face twisted in please. “So suß.” he cooed and kissed your chin. “Your friends are useless, Maus. They’re nothing compared to me.” he mumbled as he frantically fingered you. His lengthy and thick fingers easily making you squirm. “They’re not useless. I love them.” you managed to process his words and mumble an answer. Your walls clenched around his fingers signaling that you’re close. “Ja, really? More than me?” he stopped his fingers but still kept them inside you. You whined and tried to rock your hips but his arm around your waist pinned you to his chest. “Answer me, Maus.” he pumped his fingers into you once drawing a whiny moan. “N-no.” you whimpered and dug your fingers into his thighs. “Please don’t stop.” you pleaded as your hips moved by its own chasing that sweet release. He wouldn’t let you have it now. You have to squirm more and beg for it. “Benimm dich, Maus.” (Behave.)
his fingers slowly moved in and out as his arm kept you still. It was almost painful that how slow he was. “Promise me you will never see them again.” he mumbled with a dark voice. You shook your head in protest. You didn’t wanted to lose your friends just because he said so. A hard slap landed on your dripping cunt making you jolt with pain and taking you by surprise. A gasp escaped from you. His big hand covering your pussy when he hit you again. His palm now covered with your slick. “Use your words. Tell me you don’t love them, you don’t need them.” he growled and hit your clit. Your eyes went wide and hips twitched. But his strong arm kept you in place. Not leting you move away from the punishment. He hissed when he saw how red your puffy lips become with just a few slap. “Do you want me to bruise your little cunt?” he hissed then another hard slap landed on your cunt. You shook your head desperately. “I’m so sorry. I-i hate them.” You did your best to not cry but the teasing was too much. You felt like you could cum with just his big, calloused hands slapping your wet cunt. “König please.” you whimpered and buried your head into his neck. “I only love you. I promise.” you cried. He kissed your exposed neck and his fingers caressed your abused pussy. “Braves Mädchen.” he purred. It was enough for him. The way you begged and claimed you only loved him made his cock throb in his pants. He pushed his fingers into your tight hole and picked up the pace. “Let go Maus. I know you’re close.” he mumbled as he watched how you dripped from his fingers to couch. All the slapping and teasing made you weak. So you cum, hard. You didn’t knew if it was because the way he kissed your neck or his skilled fingers.

I want to make my own hc for König so here goes my attempt!
(Also there is some inspired by the millions I’ve read but some are purely from my mind lol)
My own König Headcannons!
(SFW)
He loves petting your hair whenever he can.
The bracelet he wears is a matching one to yours. Bought as a pair somewhere and you mailed it to him while he was away.
He never takes it off. Ever.
He loves getting home to see you, of course, but also just loves taking off his shoes and wearing pjs.
He definitely loves holding things up in the air away from your reach just to tease you. It makes him feel even bigger.
When you are sad he loves picking you up baby style and just holding you on his lap or in bed
Nights when he can’t sleep he whispers to you even tho you both live alone; he says he talks quietly because the stars are sleeping.
Usually falling asleep halfway through a sentence
Loves hugs, will without a doubt ask for one right when you wake up.
Hates coffee, makes him jittery
Maus is FOR SURE his petname for you.
Doesn’t see a reason for a phone. Has one but barely knows how to use it.
Loves seeing you in his oversized shirts
He really likes when people are intimidated by him (unless he wants to be their friend.)
Gets tears in his eyes when he sees ASPCA commercials with the sad animals.
He saves every letter you send him under his pillow, he swears it smells like you and helps him have better dreams
He shaves his face rarely cause only stubble grows slowly for him
He minds his scars
He’s insecure about his scars that litter is body but he can’t help but blush when you trace them or kiss them
He treasures a moment in his mind when he tried hiding his scars with clothes or his mask but you said “let me see your pretty face, Köni~ ?” He said why he didn’t want you to see but that just made you say “I understand if you don’t want to now I’ll wait for when you are ready.” It made him smile and more comfortable with showing you slowly
He thinks it’s so cute and romantic when you tie his shoes so he returns the favor
He loves brushing your hair after showers/baths
Loves taking baths. Especially with you.
MDNI
DO NOT READ BELOW THIS LINE IF YOU DON’T WANT NSFW CONTENT
(NSFW)
Loves baths when they end with you on top and water on the bathroom floor from…. Splashing.
He’s guilty of leaving bruises on your hips on purpose because he just loves seeing them.
He also loves when you leave marks on his neck and chest just before he goes on missions
I feel like he has a super high sex drive and masturbates whenever he’s away or thinks you’re busy or you’re sleeping
If he’s away and catches a glimpse of his hickies on his chest or neck while getting ready he can’t help but get hard and have to finish himself to the thought of you leaving them on his body.
He moans quiet at first touches but, once he’s in the middle of pumping in you he’s cussing in his own language because honestly he forgets English when he’s in so much pleasure.
“Bitte kleine Maus, du fühlst dich so gut Scheiße”
Translation: Please, Little mouse you feel so good fuck!
He doesn’t do it often but, when he aches for only your touch not his own he will ask you even if you’re in the middle of your chores/busy. If you make him wait he’ll sit back getting more and more frustrated. His hard on will stay prominent and his hands will be pinned at his sides as he watches like a hungry animal ready for its pray to take a step closer. At times you get done and think about doing something else just to watch him shift in his seat and sigh.
But once you’re free and give him the look or a simple “König~” in your bedroom voice he’s up and pinning you to any surface ripping his own clothes down to his ankles and yours off and thrown to the side
After moments like that he usually apologizes with words sprinkled in kisses and cuddles
If he orgasms before you he will continue thrusting his seed in you
HE HAS A BREEDING KINK
He gets off on how he can throw you around and hold you to a wall while thrusting in so deeply
He knows you like when he holds both your wrists in his hand
He also enjoys being dominated. If you wanna tell him to get on his knees or that you wanna try something he’s in for it.
He loves watching you please yourself, no matter how it’s done.
Once you rubbed yourself against his thigh until your release and he had so much precum leaking it puddled in his pants. He bites his knuckle trying to stop his moans watching you.
He’s masturbated to you in his bunk while away… and other places like the bathroom, shower, outside under the stars on a mission etc.
He sometimes keeps all his gear on to fuck you in. He likes when you grab at his chest for stability and hold his tac vest. Must admit you like when the rough fabric rubs against your legs
His gloves on your body while he stares at you through his mask
He trains still at home by doing his workouts and going on runs just to keep up his health but he especially loves when you admire him sweaty and breathing heavy.
He knows what you’re thinking when your eyes travel up and down his body after a shower.
He keeps his mask on and only that when laying you out
He gives head for hours until his jaw feels sore just to taste you on his tongue and lips
When you finish he asks if he can make you cum again and again
He’s very jealous type but doenst let it get to him unless the person starts flirting or touches you.
Thank you for reading!
If there’s any typos I’m so sorry and I haven’t written anything like this ever soooo again sorry if it’s different or weird to read 😅
Also let me know if you want more I actually really liked this.

Idk if you can do this but can you do something like when könig first meets y/n ik it's not much to go off but can you do it? It's fine if you can love your writing
enemies to lovers kinda thing!!! also thank you 💐 i'm super glad you're enjoying my posts :) 🩵;
how did you and könig meet eachother?
könig envied you, the wannabe sniper who couldn't become one because of his size. to make it worse, majority of the soldiers never liked könig themselves because of his strict manner. he'd yell at people for doing things wrong, even if it was a genuine and honest mistake, you were no exception. infact, you were his target.
he expected a hardened soldier who would snarl back at him, silenced as he cut off every attempt to prove yourself right. but instead, there you stood, shaking and trembling and not familiar with the way you were being treated. he swore he could see tears form in your eyes and your bottom lip quivering, he almost felt.. guilty?
you were everything he wanted, a sniper. something he'd dreamed of. you knew nothing about the teams wants and desires and dreams before joining kortac, much to your suprise when he growled at you for the smallest little mistakes, ones he could've made. “nein, wouldn't have made that mistake if i were a sniper.”
- and that's when you realised, everyone who told you that he was jealous, was right. he couldn't help the way his hands shook with anger and jealousy when he saw you training, even if he was a better fit for the role, it would never have been allowed. and he only hated you more when you asked him for help, of course you need help, you're fucking useless, he should've been the sniper.
and he won't bother helping you. one time you asked, tears already welling in your eyes out of pure frustration, him beside you, seeing as he hit every. single. fucking target. he wanted to see you cry and leave the military, this wasn't a place for you. “könig, can you please help me, i'm struggling.” he grabbed you and pulled you from the floor by your neck, like a mother cat would with her babies, yet he wasn't so loving about it..
pushing you back down onto the hard concrete, making you grit your teeth, hiding the pain that came. he knew you would snitch on him, or tell someone who would tell their commander and captain, he'd be gone in a matter of days. that's when he panicked, started getting more anxious before pulling you aside one day, and with desperation in his voice - just like how you were whilst training - begged you not to say or tell anyone.
you contemplated, you didn't enjoy how you were treated, and you didn't enjoy being stuffed into a small storage closet with him begging you. könig fully expected you to shake your head, and tell. you walked away, yet not saying anything. weeks passed and he became curious on why you never wanted to speak, finding you packing your bags and taking off your gear. “what are you doing?” his voice is a mixture of curiosity, and buried worry. he didn't actually want you to leave, the team needed you, a part of him needed you.
“i don't think this job is fit for me, you're right.” your smile is fake and the only reason you wore it was to hide how you were about to sob, not wanting to seem sensitive. “nein, no you're not leaving.” your ears perked at his sudden change of attitude. “i'm jealous, maus..” könig grumbled quietly, embarrassed. “i'm insecure that i can't be a sniper, i just take my anger out on others, i'm so sorry..” he won't meet your eyes, avoiding your gaze knowing he'll feel horrible for telling you the truth. “if you're so sorry, look at me when you say it.” your voice is no longer soft and instead strained, signing when he hesitates, finally looking at you.
“i am sorry, maus. please don't go.” you click your tongue, speaking loudly before dropping your bags. “alright, stop acting like how you do, and deal with your issues and problems like how a sniper would.” you turn back and head into the office, your harsh tone feeling like it cut his heart in half. but you were right after all... your captain was confused but gladly let you stay after telling him a lie, unpacking your stuff and resting on your bed.
knock, knock, knock... your door thumped, just like your heart did, jumping from the bed and twisting the door handle. of course, it was that tall, rude and brooding operator. “i want to make it up to you, will you let me show you how I really am?” one nod was all he needed, smiling and handing you his number.
he took you out on a date, as a friend. but afterwards, you felt like you met a new person, a different man. he spoke to you with genuine kindness, pulling you down onto his bed and sloppily making out with you, sucking on your neck and kissing your jaw. you weren't a friend, perhaps a love intrest... horangi was surprised to see you to making out messily one night, the figure taking up the entire doorway, flashing the light at you before gasping and locking his door.
suddenly become closer to the man you'd once felt anger and sadness to, teaching eachother tactics, finally helping you. a lot of soldiers considered the possibilities and conspiracies of what happened between you two now seeing you both acting like an old married couple.

November/October 2023 Contest Submission #1: Pull of the Tide
Words: 3,000 Setting: mAU Lemon: no Content: angst, Anna teasing Elsa about sex dreams
*****
Anna doesn’t slam the driver’s side door. Normally, she would – it’s been a long, hot day in an even hotter car with no AC – but she closes it as gently as she can, takes the few steps around to the passenger side door, opens it, and crouches.
“Elsa?” Her hand settles on her sister’s bare knee, and she smiles when those crystal clear, blue eyes flutter open and settle on her in sleepy recognition. “Hey.”
“Mh.” There’s a sluggishly hidden yawn, and Elsa takes a second to blink at their surroundings. “What time is—Anna.” A low, exhausted groan. “You were supposed to wake me hours ago!”
“You just said you don’t know what time it is.”
“But I do know the difference between sunlight and moonlight.” Two fingers come up to tweak Anna’s slightly sunburned nose, and Elsa sighs. “You’ve been driving since lunch.”
“Yeah, well… heat’s harder on you.” Anna pushes herself to a stand; crossing her arms and stepping away from the car. “And maybe I feel guilty for getting us lost in the first place.”
“You also made sure we had a full tank of gas this morning, not to mention several bottles of water.” A soft ‘click’ signals the seatbelt being undone, and it doesn’t take long before Elsa is standing beside her; still sounding a little sleep-drunk, but peering through the narrow tree line with interest. “And now you’ve found a lake?”
“Near a road that’s actually paved, even if it’s patchy as hell.” With a grimace, Anna pulls her sweat-dampened hair free of its low ponytail. “It’s progress, right? Maybe we’ll get signal again soon.” It’s her turn to sigh this time. “Even if we have to sleep in the car.”
“Or you could sleep while I drive.” An arm comes up to curl around her shoulders, and Anna lets her sister pull her into a side-hug while she tries not to notice how it makes her heart climb up the inside of her throat until it’s basically using her uvula as a punching bag. “I think that’s only fair.”
“Bossy.” Anna nudges her with an elbow mostly to have an excuse to extract herself, and starts off towards the lake before lazily tossing the keys over her shoulder. “Coming?”
A muffled jingle tells her that they’re caught. “Warn a girl,” Elsa grouses, and there’s the soft, hurried crunch of her footsteps, followed by the slamming of the car door and the low ‘clunk’ of it locking.
“Right.” Anna settles the hair tie around her wrist before grabbing the bottom hem of her t-shirt and pulling it over her head in one go. “We haven’t seen another human being since this morning, but sure; can’t be too careful. Bambi and his friends may have taken to a life of crime to make ends m—hey!” The definite snap of something against her backside makes her hop forward, but at least she doesn’t trip over anything. “Rude.”
“Uh huh.” The tank top has settled over Elsa’s arm by the time she catches up, and Anna firmly keeps her eyes on the lake. “Is this where you tell me what’s been going on with you, or is it still not the right time?”
‘The right time’ would ideally be never, so Anna veers off when they clear the tree line; heading for a rocky outcrop that slopes up out of the ground and into the water, and trying to not hear the soft sigh behind her.
It had been a good idea at the time. A short(ish) road trip for just the two of them; not only to mark Anna completing her first year of college, but to let Elsa do at least one ‘wild’ thing before she officially entered adult life. Time for them to rebuild the connection that had admittedly stretched a little thin, and to get to know each other better as adults.
And if there’s one thing Anna knows? If you’re crushing hard on someone, nothing will kill that crush faster than forced, close quarters and unpredictable stressors. It worked every other time, so of course it isn’t working now that she really, really needs it to.
Anna toes off her dusty sneakers and sets them on a relatively not-dusty patch of rock. Somewhere behind her, she can hear her sister go through much the same process, and she concentrates on unbuttoning her shorts when a long, slender arm deposits Elsa’s small pile of clothing – much more neatly folded – in her peripheral vision.
She could try to think of it as Elsa in a bikini instead of Elsa in her underwear, but… yeah, that wouldn’t help. So no; better to avoid the issue as long as possible.
The soft sound of moving water is another excellent reason to keep her back turned, and Anna takes the time to fold her clothes properly because it’s as good an excuse as any to focus on something else.
And she might as well not have, of course, she realizes when she finally does turn, because putting off the sight doesn’t make the reality of it hit her any less hard.
Elsa is submerged up to her waist, and stands there under the moonlight with her eyes closed and a serene expression on her face. The overheated flush she was sporting has receded, and only continues to fade further under Anna’s watchful gaze until her sister’s skin regains its normal, pale tones and she looks – for all the world – like the moon personified come down for a lazy, late-night swim.
Then Elsa lowers herself fully into the water. She cranes her head back until only her face and a section of her throat is visible, and the water surrounding her moves gently as she brings her hands up to rake through her submerged hair.
It must feel nothing short of blissful, because the soft, pleased groan travels through the still, night air with alarming clarity, and Anna about swallows her own tongue.
So, revision: it hadn’t been a good idea at the time. It was a fucking awful idea then and it’s an even worse one now, because if Elsa is the moon, then Anna is the tide; separate but connected, and endlessly, helplessly pulled to her in ways she has no hope of controlling.
… and that is way too much teenage angst for someone pushing 20, so Anna takes a deep breath, strides into the water and dunks herself; crouching on the lake bed with her arms wrapped around her knees, and hoping that maybe the cool water will help clear her head.
It would be easier if it was only a matter of desire, or if they weren’t sisters. But it isn’t and they are, and so the only option Anna has is to shove it all down as far as she can, and hope that eventually, it’ll go away.
(It hasn’t yet, and not for a lack of trying.)
At least in a few more weeks, Elsa will be starting the job she landed before even graduating because of course she did, which means that she’ll be moving. Far enough away that they probably won’t see each other outside the traditional holidays, which should make everything easier.
(Except that it will make everything much, much harder.)
She’s perfectly content to stay underwater for as long as her lung capacity will allow – avoidance has worked well enough so far and she sees no need to mess with an at least relatively successful formula – but Elsa, of course, is a factor too.
She gets the warning of the water moving before there are hands closing around her upper arms, and then she is hoisted back above the surface and into the very vivid reality of her older sister standing a scant foot in front of her; barely decent, dripping wet, and platinum hair turned almost silver in the moonlight.
“Anna.” Those gentle hands release her arms and lift to cradle her face instead, and Elsa’s eyes are pained and frightened and pleading. “Will you just tell me what I did?”
“… did?” There is least a small blessing to be found in how those hands are keeping her eyes focused on her sister’s face. “What are you talking about?”
“I don’t know.” Elsa’s voice tightens in frustration, and her fingers curl until their tips are pressing into the skin behind Anna’s jaw. “You’ve been so distant and quiet this entire trip, and I just—” A pause, and slow, trembling exhale that warms the lower half of Anna’s face. “… did I say something in my sleep? Today, or earlier?”
“Wh—” Anna blinks, but considers the question; for one because Elsa is the one asking, and for another because it’s something to think about that isn’t a halfway-panicked loop of ‘eyes up’. “I—well, you mumbled about chocolate, but what else is new, right?”
“… right.” There is nothing new about that, and yet even in the moonlight it’s clear that Elsa is blushing.
That’s another something to think about that’s at least less to do with her being nearly naked, and Anna seizes it gratefully. “Elsa, did you have a naughty dream?” The deepening blush and abrupt widening of those eyes is answer enough. “Oh my god, you did!”
“I did not!” Her sister releases her – pulls her hands away as if burned, actually – and takes a few staggering steps back that makes the water slosh around them. “Who even calls it that?!”
“You had a naughty dream!” Anna wades after her; gleeful in the way that only a younger sibling can be when tormenting an older one. “While right next to me!”
“There was no—” Her sister is burying her face in her hands and retreating until her back hits a boulder that stands taller than her. “—s-sex dream!”
“Uh huh, sure.” She is trying to contain her grin as she stalks after her, but probably failing. “You know the only one calling it a sex dream is you, right?”
Elsa makes a sound somewhere between a groan and a whine and presses her face even harder into her own hands, and Anna… is sort of stuck between feeling bad for her and being intensely curious.
So over-the-top ridiculous it is. “Who was it about? What happened in it?” She’s nose to nose – or nose to knuckle, rather – with her mortified sister now, and leans on the boulder with her hands on either side of Elsa’s shoulders. “Did you dream about a professor of yours? Multiple professors, even?” Another groan-whine combo. “Elsa, did you dream about a gangbang?!”
“No!” comes the yelp, and the pale fingers part enough for Elsa to send her a horrified stare. “Oh my G— Anna!”
“Then it can’t be that bad, can it?”
This time, the sound is just a groan, though it’s definitely heartfelt. “I swear, you shave at least a month off my life every year.”
“Excuse you. Regular cardio is healthy.” When Elsa’s hands finally shift enough for her to do it, Anna gives the end of her sister’s nose a tap with a fingertip; idly appreciating the contrast with her own, deeper tan. “I’m adding to your lifespan, if anything.” The definite glower she gets in response makes her smile. “So who were you dreaming about?”
Somehow, Elsa actually pales. “Not telling,” she mutters, and pushes weakly at Anna’s freckled shoulders. “Would you move, already?!”
Anna leans harder on her own hands; bending her arms at the elbows until their faces are so close they’re practically breathing the same air because this is normal sisterhood: One needling the other over something embarrassing until one gives up or the other gives in. It’s simple and innocent and playful, and it is in no way making her forget that they’re both standing there half-naked.
“Oh, no you don’t.” She works to maintain her best ‘annoying younger sibling’ expression while Elsa looks at anything but her. “Spill. It was someone inappropriate, obviously. Who?”
Silence.
“I’m gonna start guessing if you don’t tell me,” Anna reminds her cheerfully. “You know I will.”
A red-faced glare is the answer to that, along with more silence.
“Okay.” A shrug, and she tilts her head back to study the night sky. “Someone inappropriate. Not a professor of yours, and I’m guessing not one of mine, either. A fellow student wouldn’t be inappropriate even by your standards—” She ignores the offended noise. “— so it’s someone you think you shouldn’t have those thoughts about.”
“Anna…” The tone is wavering and has a definite, pleading note to it. “Stop. Please.”
It stops being funny, and Anna sobers. “Okay,” she promises - softer now – and straightens until she’s no longer invading her sister’s space quite as much. “Okay. I’m sorry.” And she is sorry and wants to drop the subject, but while her vocal chords obey for once, her mind is absolutely whirling.
Because who is it? Who would Elsa not only be so into, but also be so clearly ashamed of having feelings for?
And Anna, while Elsa slumps against the stone with an unsteady exhale, feels something in her just stop and start, because she can really only think of one option.
“Elsa?” She feels the water move when she shifts; hears her brain screaming at her to shutupshutupshutUP because she could be wrong, but her heart was always the one ultimately in charge. “If— would you be totally disgusted if I kissed you?”
Elsa stills completely and then jerks her head up to stare at her, and Anna is acutely aware of everything. The slow sloshing of the lake’s surface, the silence between them because they’ve both stopped breathing, and how her own heart is frozen solid and also pounding its way through her ribcage.
Something about the moonlight makes the faint freckles on Elsa’s cheeks stand out more, Anna notes somehow; distracted as she is by the fact that she can see her own reflection in her sister’s eyes.
There are several strands of hair sticking to her cheek – coppery red turned almost brown by moisture and low lighting – and Anna would move them if she could make herself move at all.
“No,” is the answer; in a tone that sounds like Elsa is stuck on the same frozen-still, faster-than-light rollercoaster. “But… why—”
Anna kisses her before she can lose her nerve; halfway expecting to be pushed away even if she’s pretty sure how Elsa meant the ‘no’.
She isn’t. Elsa does freeze in place again for a split-second eon, but then… then she shivers – head to toe, hard enough for Anna to feel it – and there are arms curling around her and the chill of the water contrasting with the warmth of her sister’s skin, and for a long, exhilarating moment, Anna forgets how to even think.
But she does remember eventually, and draws in a slow breath that tastes like Elsa. “This… feels pretty close to a point of no return, right?”
“I passed the point of no return when I realized that I couldn’t kiss anyone without wondering what it would be like to kiss you.” The admission is so quiet that Anna has to strain to hear it at all, and she watches Elsa’s throat work in a hard swallow. “Going back hasn’t been an option for a very long time.”
A long, shaky breath, and Anna lets her head drop forward until her face is pressing into Elsa’s shoulder; curling her fingers around the edge of her sister’s waist while tender, achingly familiar arms pull her closer, and feeling the press of a lingering kiss against her temple as she takes a moment to just… process.
“Yeah.” Her voice is hoarse and halfway muffled by soft skin. “I know what you mean. I just—” A pause and another long breath, though at least this one isn’t as shaky. “I don’t want this to be something we regret. You know?”
“I know.” Gentle fingers tug at her hair until Anna has to straighten, and then they’re forehead to forehead and those eyes are all she can see. “For what it’s worth, I doubt I’ll ever regret anything as long as you’re involved.”
That’s worth a lot, actually, and Anna smiles. “That’s kind of cheesy.”
“It’s very cheesy.” Elsa’s chuckle is little more than a puff of air. “That doesn’t mean it isn’t true.” There’s a languid touch circling her ear before Elsa’s hand settles on her shoulder. “Should we stop?”
Going by the tone of Elsa’s voice and the look in her eyes, the question is completely serious, and Anna takes the time to give it the equally serious consideration it deserves. If she said yes, she has no doubt that Elsa would not only accede to her wishes, but that she’d do so with a smile.
She can see it in her eyes, if she looks close enough; a subtle tightness behind her irises that signals at once fear, understanding and preemptive acceptance, and that tells her how much this – how much she – means to Elsa better than words ever could.
So instead of answering verbally, Anna kisses her, and God, the sound Elsa makes when she does. It’s breathless and relieved and so raw it’s almost animal, and her entire body actually shifts down a few inches when her knees unlock.
Anna, in response, presses her harder against the stone and kisses her again; light and gentle and tender while Elsa’s breathing stutters against her mouth.
“I’m not going anywhere,” she promises, and watches those eyes well up and spill over while Elsa’s fingers tremble against her shoulders. “I want this. I want us.”
Elsa holds her so tightly it almost hurts; buries her face in Anna’s hair and lets those quiet, hitched breaths warm her ear in fits and starts.
In return, Anna holds her just as tight. She kisses Elsa’s shoulder and throat and gets it more than her sister probably realizes.
It won’t be easy, she knows. But few things worth having ever are.

Some Werner Werman HC’s that my mind conjured up at 10:00 PM.
((This is probably the first time in like two years since I posted anything HC. Not for Cuphead, but for other things. I got into Cuphead pretty recently and I figured that I would take a shot at creating some fun HC’s for the Cuphead characters! And as such, I’m gonna do Werner first, because I adore this sneaky, adorable German maus! Anyway, I apologize for any typos; I made this pretty late))
Since Werner’s whole fight revolves around anything war related (medals on the walls, his helmet, even his theme), I like the idea of Werner just being a fan of war memorabilia. Like, for me, I see Werner getting caught up in both the gritty and technical side of warfare, being inspired to create inventions and live out a fantasy where he plays a part in a war where he’s in high command. It could be that he dreams of being in the military but may have been rejected due to his size. He’s clearly a genius, so in order to cope, he turns to scavenging up anything that can be useful to him in order to build his military collection.
Speaking of collection, Werner’s a huge collector. I already touched on this in the last point, but Werner may be the type to collect many things and hoard/use them for a specific purpose. He’s not wasteful and see any considered trash to be potential nuts and bolts for his plans. Not just for constructing things, but he likes to do it for the aesthetics. The medals that are adorned on his walls could be misplaced items that someone may have lost at one point, and Werner saw the opportunity to snatch it up for himself (finders keepers mentality). Werner doesn’t think twice about gathering strung about objects that are in different locations, be it in homes or on the streets. If it catches his eye, Werner becomes fixated on it and sets his sight on collecting whatever treasure it is, disregarding safety and consideration of who it may belong to.
Werner, at his core, is a selfish individual. Yes, he is charismatic and creative, but at his center he only thinks of himself and his needs/wants, not caring at all if someone gets hurt or tries to set him on the right path. And Werner knows this about himself and he does not care. Yes, he’s an asshole but take a walk in his shoes. As a vermin, Werner is used to people chasing him out of their homes, used being called names, and in general, used to being the target of various items attempting to crush or seriously injure him. So why should Werner feel guilty for taking things that aren’t his? Why should he have to think twice about stealing from others just to survive? Werner will always have to face people hating him for what he is: a pest. And Werner couldn’t give a flying sh*t about it.
The smoking habit is pretty unclear. I am just going to go out of a limb here and assume that he picked it up from seeing others do it. I could see smoking as a stress reliever for Werner (even though it’s really bad). He smokes pretty regularly and most of his cigars/cigarettes are just ones that have been discarded. If Werner’s lucky, he might manage to pickpocket a unused cig without being detected.
The Katzenwagen is his oldest invention; probably the biggest project Werner has done since who knows how long. He treats the KW like you would a pet. He cares for feline machine dearly and if it got one bump, one scratch, then Werner is quick to patch it up before the contraption begins to break down. The KW acts and functions like a cat, having the emotions and behavior of that of a cat. The only difference is its cry, sounding more robotic than feline. Werner is still perfecting his KW, as it is his favorite piece of work and only companion.
Werner speaks mostly in German. Whenever he’s alone, he speaks in his native tongue and doesn’t alternate languages that often. He is fluent in English, but that doesn’t mean he’ll always communicate auf Englisch. And, yes, he does use this as an advantage to insult people who don’t understand German. Except for Dr. Kahl and maybe Hilda Berg.

This is my 2nd day of getting nightmares. Yesterday was...
I was stuck didepan rumah orang warna ungu. I was scared and tried to wake up.
Tadi aku dah buka mata tapi gabisa gerak dan I hear a voice. Suaranya berat bicara dalam bahasa lain. He was standing behind me in my room. But thank God, your chat made my phone vibrate and I can gain some consciousness and strength to move my fingers and wake up.
And today's...
I was in a classroom (the vibe was like my elementary school) with lots of co ass wearing red scrubs. They are minding their own business. Some of them are goofing around some of them might be studying.
Somebody came to me and gave me papers with a blank table of patient name, diagnosis, and therapy given. I knew right away that it was my duty to fill it in. In that room, only I was supposed to work. I got my first patient and long story short I didn't know what their diagnosis was and I can't write anything. I just jot down their name. I didn't know if I could do other patients with my little to none existing knowledge. Especially when all their cases were about skin. :)) Why... The first diagnosis might be condyloma but how would I know it without biopsy.
I moved to another table to do other things (I forgot). I came back to that table finding my friend, Jovan, was talking to another co ass about their lab reports. I noticed some of the histology pictures were exactly the same as my lecturer's slide. So I told them about it and asked if it's okay to scan it so we can get the histology picture. Their lab reports were much simpler. They just glued pictures and put references at the end of the page.
While I was scanning the reports, suddenly dr. Suryani came to me and asked about my work. Shoot... All the patients were already gone and I only wrote one case. She scolded me in front of the other. I know I deserve the scolding, but it went weird. She asked me to close my eyes and told everyone to observe whether I'd laugh or not, to know if I genuinely feel guilty of what I've done. I closed my eyes but I could still see things around me. I can see some of them pitying me and the other getting ready to tease me.
and then I wake up...

JUNI!
*however this post is about what happened in May*
Ya, belajar satu hal lagi menyenangkan bukan berarti melegakan.
31 hari untuk mengalami, mencerna momen dan perasaan yang terjadi, tanpa sempat menulis apa-apa. I keep it all in my heads and I think this month is the best time to let it out.
Minggu I:
Eid Mubarak!
I’ve been waiting for this sequel for 6 years and tickets war was crazy) it worth every penny because “weekday price” and no kids tantrum running in the studio or annoying person.
Selebihnya makan enak, jajan enak, tapi ga “sefoya-foya” biasanya alias alhamdulillah ga seimpulsif tahun lalu (mungkin akibat hampir semuanya udah pernah dicobain) Nemu choux enak banget di Lawson (mengalahkan Beard Papa yang udah jadi langganan) cukup senang muter-muter motoran menikmati sisa-sisa ketenangan bulan ramadhan. Semoga tahun depan ketemu lagi!
Minggu II:
Joined a new book club! Bahas buku lagi bareng fellow readers setelah sekian lama tu agak kagok-kagok gitu tapi fun karena gak begitu ramai, intimate, tapi tiba-tiba koneksi internetnya menghilang. Sebel banget.
Tried painting my book edges (Looking for Alaska) messy but satisfied because it capture Alaska (and me) mental condition and very much.
Begin my chapter 26th (felt weird somehow I made it this far) not that so “euphoric” birthday like last year, spent my day with small circles, people I loved, enough greetings, photos, got 2 cakes and one of it was CHEESECAKE like how could they knowww or what a coincidence??? Imma happy chizquin and meatballs at the and of the day.
Eat something I never thought I will buy it; Salad Stop, out of budget meal (equals 2 double box pizza for a bowl) but surprisingly GREAT TASTE! I felt clean and will have a long life.
Minggu III:
Went to my dad graveyard. This time my mom was in higher level of acceptance. She could finally laugh, and no tears dropping across her cheeks. Me? I don’t know, maybe I’m too afraid of an idea about one day I’ll forget him and keep maintaining my grief feeling (with enough doses) is more comforting.
I never thought that I can tell this, but this week I met new friends from a bookclub that I joined in the first week of May. One step ahead healing from this “bookclub” trauma. Tapi semuanya mengalir aja, padahal masing-masing anggota juga baru pertama kali ketemuan (pandemic reasons) bahkan bisa ngobrol sampai malem ngomongin mental health. Ga nyangka banget bisa sampai di titik ini. New friends and they accept me like a warm hug. I almost cry that day.
My cousins gave me s’mores and they bought it with their own money. Well I never thought that I (who plan to be childfree because I’m afraid raising human) can taking care of kids and it works, they loved me back. This is my first time receiving gifts from them and they pay attention with something I like. At first it was sad for me they don’t get enough attention and affection because their parents broke up since they were little and since we living in the same house (and I’m that awkward having conversations with kids) I take them sometimes to cinemas and eat good food, asking what they want to do after, and the older one surprisingly having the same interest with me; books.
Tes TKD dan Core Values BUMN, gak berharap banyak sih sama hasilnya tapi seneng aja bisa lolos 2 tahap, dan ngerasain “ujian” lagi. Tetep degdegan sih, karena ya this is one of my mom’s dream.
Minggu IV:
Went to Pet Expo in my city but sadly they only have dogs and anything except cats. Not selling any cat treats/ toys also.
D-DAY! momen traveling perdana ke luar provinsi tanpa keluarga. Banyak hal yang jadi momen “first time” selama tanggal 26 Mei sampai 29 Mei, bahkan menghabiskan 2 hari terakhir liburan sendirian di kota yang terakhir kali ke sana itu waktu papa masih sehat (15 tahun lalu) will share my thoughts about this later.
Minggu V:
2 hari terakhir di bulan Mei. Ambil gaji, beresin kerjaan yang numpuk, dan cerita-cerita bareng rekan kerja hingga pulang jam 9 malam. Kurang tidur bikin pusing.
Finally hold Ghost Stories (purple cover) Scholastic Edition copy, been wanting it for one year and don’t know where to order because LANGKA BANGET HEYYY officially jadi hadiah ulang tahun buat diri sendiri di usia 26 tahun ini (selain 1 malam di Metro fulfilling imagination became Kevin McCalister)
May ended with another friendship breakup, but received so much love in return. Semoga banyak kabar baik di bulan ini.

Agsjlsakgakajakallalakkskala i wanna knows what reyna would do if killjoy's like dying nd its bcs killjoy took a blow for her :))
Idk why but killjoy and reyna seem so interesting with their dynamic
[ reyna & killjoy IV ]
✎↷: they are, i agree! it’s by far one of the most interesting ones to write out, judging by the way they view each other is less professional and more personal struggle between their power dynamics. here you go, anon!
(by the way, for those of you who are still waiting for my asks— i’ve seen and read them all already, just haven’t gotten around to writing it yet! don’t worry <3)
only under a few circumstances would killjoy actually look out for reyna. the arrogant vampire has always bothered the engineer, but as someone who understands teamwork and the importance of it, killjoy follows the rules and guidelines that brimstone assigned her. so no, she can’t strangle reyna no matter how much she wants to at times, but she can’t fathom her own recklessness when killjoy throws aside her brains for pure instinct when she throws herself into the line of fire for reyna.
it’s not caring for her. it’s because she knows that with her narcissism aside, reyna is a crucial member of the team. she’s a duelist and is meant to engage and lead the team, while killjoy spends a majority of her time as backup and fighting tooth and nail for sites and the payload, if it comes down to it. reyna holds more importance to the team that she does, and while the woman can heal, it’s still only to a certain extent. priorities on the field come professionally and before her personal needs, so no, killjoy doesn’t regret getting hurt in the crossfire.
but reyna on the other hand would never expect killjoy to do such a thing for her. more than a few times has killjoy made it clear that she is independent and doesn’t need reyna telling her what to do, but with this happening, it’s clear that killjoy will only help her on her own free well. startled, reyna watched wide eyed as killjoy came crashing down to the floor, arms tugged around reyna’s shoulder and body blocking what shots come her way. the mexican counts a total of three, impaled along killjoy’s backside and providing for fatal injury.
that could be her, the vampire thinks, but the vampire scowls to herself in the moment of killjoy’s act. she’s better than her, to act for the sake of another teammate. reyna is guilty of baiting her colleagues more than a few times, and this is just... for a moment, she doesn’t remember how to act. killjoy is out of commission, quiet as life trickles from her eyes and skin takes on a paler, colder color as blood pools onto the floor. reyna wants to damn this girl, and she scoffs as she shrugs away the woman’s arm and takes position in a safer angle.
while it was a stupid decision in reyna’s eyes, killjoy’s distraction was all reyna needed for her to wipe out the rest of the enemies and leave her alone with the dying german. “you are stupid, maus,” she mocked viper’s nickname for her, arms crossing. “your... heroism wasn’t worth it. you’re nothing to me.” choking and distant, killjoy feverishly shuddered as she felt reyna’s hands reach beneath her shoulders to sit her up. her jacket is being taken off, strewn against her wounds to lessen the blood loss. it’s not as if reyna cares for killjoy, but she can at least see to that her coworker has a minute longer left in her life.
the engineer hissed, drained as her head lulled back against her shoulder. it’s pathetic to see this human not fight back like she normally does, and while reyna would typically say something about how she did the ‘right thing’ by giving her life in for a radiant, it doesn’t feel right to say that when her own life was inches away from death. she refuses to be thankful to this human girl, but there is.. guilt, a tinge of thought of what could and couldn’t happen. reyna is still on the scene by the tame sage arrives to do her work, but since then, reyna can’t hold killjoy’s eye for any longer than a few seconds.

okay I need your klance fic recs(i feel like you have really good taste)(i mean your icon is literally THE keith of course you have god tier taste)
okay so the thing is.. that when i say am kinda messed up and disgusting sometimes... and becoming a madwoman... am not over exaggerating or saying it in a funky way.. i actually am getting like that .. and that's how i got into the klance fandom initially. i project through lance and read really langsty fics.. and they are messed messed with like violent nsfw, gore, horror, serious mental health issues etc? so if u want those... i'll only send them if u want?
yeah tho i entered with this thingy that klance is gonna be like my guilty pleasure or some shit but them i inevitably fell in love with some GORGEOUS fanfictions out there and KEITH KOGANE in all shapes sizes genders and ages so lol...
but they aren't flowery. that's just not my taste. Some of them might be "problematic"? it's in quotes because i don't agree with it. it's not going to be problematic in plain ignorant sense like racial issues or blatant sexism or mental abuse.... but they might have like stuff which people dont always agree with like drugs. most of them would have nsfw it's just something that i need to have for feels and that's why i asked if u minded it. some things are like more subjective,, characterizations for example, cause like some people dont think keith is a skirt guy cause he isnt in fashion but i think he is petty and rebellious so he will defo do that? some of them would have like physical fights and stuff.. or keith and lance being mean to each other.. some ugly habits which aren't necessarily condemned like anger or drugs.? but with how i see it, it's not glorified, so i see them as human. i love the raw and ugly in these or idk its just human to me (but some people dont like which is completely valid cause we are all different from different environments and think different and resonate with different stuff.)
wait addition: i think some of them will have sexist themes? which i have complained about a lot before. i dont know why authors feel the need to somehow put women down to show how a mlm relationship without any women is superior or some shit it's annoying as fuck i hate it. i dont think i would have any especially sexist fics here, but there might be some with lowkey themes and bad handling of those issues. some of them mau have that subtext of disgusting heteronormative standards, but in subtext uk like bottom lance having a small waist and being giggly and all in contrast to big bulk keith.
here are some that i had bookmarked... but i may remember some more and then send them to u and or add them here...
a heads up.. i dont remember all of them very well. its been a while and i read fanfictions A LOT so yeah.. incase one slips up here which isnt very good am sorry dont judge me
the bold ones are the ones u should really check out if our taste is similar.
to begin with plain f l u f f,, my first klance bookmark was How Could I Say No? by Padfoots_Pawprint. tws for violence, bullying, injury BUT it's not actually gory or something like that it's just keith being keith and getting hurt and lance helping my boi like he should. it made me feeeeeeeel ksksk
this was one that kinda really touched me,, Wasted youth, Cryptids, and Waterboys by Baea THIS HAS EXPLICIT NSFW in it, the first chapter kicks off with it.. its a good fuck buddies to lovers in my opinion.. i love the writing style, the choice of how it's just a couple entries of random days in their lives. i love keith's characterization.. he is a hobo and a conspiracy nerd.. i love how down for him lance is, very dedicated. i love their growth.. i love how they help each other grow,, and it's so like real and usual day to day and human and down to earth idk how else to express it. this is INCOMPLETE. it's 12 chapters and discontinued as of now,, but it's not a deadly cliffhanger
similar in style and approach to the above. tho i think here is where it gets dubious. Easy, Tiger. by @/WhatTheBodyGraspsNot ... this is INCOMPLETE too and as of now discontinued. this has that sorta murky vibe with it's drug usage, them being teenagers in school and engaging in stuff like this, bad boy keith and all. this has nsfw too. i just remember really liking it and its very raw and unfiltered. tho it's incomplete it's not an open ending for now.
okay so i am restarting this but am upset as fuck that it all got deleted so i am gonna be lazy and not put as much effort as i did.
i have also Crowd Pleaser bookmarked by the same author,, this one's complete and it has some serious issues around gaslighting if i remember correctly... i really liked it then. keith is literally an angel here, i want to kidnap him and marry him literally. the s h w ee t e s t shit ,, and i like how lance gives him all the support and space to get his shit together
Drummer boy by klancekorner,, i think it's similar to the prev one, but lance's pov(which is what i prefer ngl). this authors fanfics are all just wholesome. i had put links to all their fics before, but imma now just say that u should go and check all their fics out. i have them all bookmarked, i must have seen something in them (can't remember what now tho and i cant be bothered to skim through them like last time *rolls eyes*)
War of hearts? idk why honestly, just ik keira has made me gay, and lesbian rejection angst? garrison? yes :) it's incomplete, conveniently left at the point where lance's heart is broken lol
Fuck buddies with benefits. THE NAME IS BAD I KNOW but i just love the idea of a dedicated mess of a keith and lance taking care of him. that's it that's the fic if i remember correctly. oh wait yeah u might think keith is not treating lance right, but i think it's fine if lance is treated a bit stupid. this is a bit too sex driven tho i dont like it but just SLEEPDEPRIVED KEITH TO TAKE CARE OF IMMA SIGN UP (ik this maybe coming off toxic but lol look at me)
Rambling: THIS WAS ME.
Last Defense: TW SUICIDE this is literally the langst i have for canon lance
I want something else: bad boy keith can break my limbs and cut my face and i will thank him
A thank you would be nice: keira damn
game-set-match: b a d b o y
I swear to go the devil made me do it: my typically fav trop, hardcore pining lance, literally perfect angsty keith. very similar to the top ones ig? idk also this one is one of my comparatively recent sane bookmarks so that's something. it starts off weird, u think it gon be subtly sexist but it turns out better so hold on
you've got me locked up: i think it's delinquent keith,, its floofy
Dad lance and tattoo artist keith: the name says it
damn while going through my bookmarks i realized that there are a lot of things i never bookmarked? i am pretty sure i loved a lot of long fanfictions, flower shop aus and tattoo artists shit wtf-
wait here's one, it's not complete: Blood jumps in the sun: it's very heavy has a lot of growth and kinda wholesome,, tags and summary will give u an idea what u getting in.
The lessons we learned: can't remember much other than florist keith, sad keith, smart keith, really long, pining

Things We Do for Love: Part 10
Third Part to Such a Thrill and The Devil is in the Details
Leon came home from training completely exhausted. It was a double session and the coach felt like the team as a whole was not putting forth enough effort which meant the entire squad needed to step up. Karina was sitting on their bed, leg propped up with a couple of pillows and an array of papers and her laptop surrounding her. She beamed at him as he entered the bedroom and he knew that under normal circumstances, she would have popped right up to greet him. Of course, he'd be happy to go to her even if she hadn't recently been through reconstructive surgery, but he knew Karina was having a hard time accepting her limited mobility.
"Hello, handsome." Karina wrapped her arms around Leon's neck as he leaned down. She scooted herself towards the middle of the bed and made room for him to have a seat next to her. "How was your day?"
He thought for a moment. "Arduous."
Karina laughed at his word choice but gave him a sympathetic smile as she rested her hand on his cheek and gave him a kiss. Leaning back, Leon clasped his hands behind his head and stretched out a bit more. "I might be able to make it better."
"Oh yeah?" Leon raised an eyebrow, imagining that Karina was going to announce that she had already ordered dinner and it was on its way. She looked especially pleased with herself. "How so?"
Karina smiled. "I love it when you wear joggers. The first time you came over to my apartment you had joggers on."
Leon held Karina's gaze, now unable to follow her train of thought.
"The first thing I thought of," She went to the waistband and gave them a little tug, encouraging him to lift his hips, "Was how easy it would be to just yank them down and blow you. Do you see where I'm going with this?"
As soon as she had finished her sentence, Karina situated herself so that her mouth was level with his groin. She looked up as she took hold of him, never breaking her eye contact as she began to use her mouth on him.
"Fuck, Maus." Leon laughed slightly as he wound and unwound her ponytail around his hand. "You're already making it better."
When Karina finished up, she rested her head on Leon's hip for a few moments while he continued to play with her hair. Once Leon repositioned his pants, Karina moved up closer to him and draped her arm over his waist while she nestled herself against his chest. Leon continued to stroke her hair, hoping to lull her into a relaxed state. "Can I talk to you about something?"
"Ok?"
"Your brother stopped by the other day and wants to go out for dinner to meet his new girlfriend." Leon realized he was speaking quicker than normal, anticipating her response.
Karina simply started to drag her fingers along his side. "Ok."
"Ok?" Leon let out a little laugh, relieved that her reaction wasn't stronger. "You don't have anything else to say?"
She looked up at him now, bewildered as to why she needed to explain herself. "Yeah, you hang out with Marius all the time. Why would I care if he brings his girlfriend?"
"Oh," Leon at once realized he hadn't been specific enough. "No, I want you to come too. I'm not going to do that thing where only I go."
Karina frowned as she looked away. "I think you should go, but I don't need to be there."
Leon sighed as he brought his arm across and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Do you want to see him?"
"Honestly?" Karina sat up and moved towards the edge of the bed. "I'm not sure. You know, I didn't change my number. I tried calling him a few times but he never answered or responded to my texts."
With his eyes trained on the ceiling, Leon shrugged as he clasped his hands behind his head. "I know he feels guilty about telling your parents."
"Good for him." Extending her arm to grab her crutches, Karina groaned when one fell slightly out of her reach. "I hate these fucking things."
Leon quickly moved to pick it up for her but was met with an eye roll instead of gratitude.
"I'm serious. If you want to go meet this girl, by all means, go." She had started towards the bathroom but stopped and looked over her shoulder. "You don't need my permission or approval."
"Right, but if it bothers you then I don't want to." Leon gave her a few minutes before he followed her
Karina had stopped in front of the vanity, leaning her hip into it so she could keep the weight off her ankle without the use of her crutches. "It doesn't bother me, I just don't want to see him."
"Now or at all?" Leon sat on the edge of the tub, curious as to why Karina had gone into the bathroom, to begin with.
He didn't miss the irritation that was beginning to form on her face. But Karina closed her eyes and breathed in deeply. "I don't even feel like going out to dinner with just you since I can't, you know, walk."
Leon smiled patiently, he had been navigating Karina's apathy with gentle nudges towards doing something, but he had yet to get her to agree to go somewhere that would require her to dress somewhat formally. "We could invite them to come here for dinner."
"Fine." She sighed, her aggravation still apparent. "If it means that much to you, fine."
Leon rested his chin on her shoulder and beamed back at her in the mirror. "I love you, Maus."
"Just so you know," Karina turned around and hoisted herself up onto the vanity. "I'm only agreeing to this for you."
Leon leaned in and kissed her forehead. "I just don't want you to end up doing something you'll regret."
Karina closed her eyes and her body language softened. "I appreciate you wanting the best for me but that ship has sailed."
Marius was surprised that Karina had agreed to host him and Samantha for dinner. When they arrived, Karina was sitting at the kitchen island finishing up something for work. Leon answered the door with Elsa and Ember right at his heels. He offered to take their coats but Samantha seemed frozen in place.
"What is it?" Marius turned back to her. "You ok?"
Samantha immediately shook her head. "I didn't know there'd be dogs here."
"Oh," Leon took a few steps back to give her some room. "Sorry, let me just put them in the bedroom."
Karina watched in mild amusement as Samantha shielded herself behind Marius while Leon led Elsa and Ember down the hall. She waited to see if Marius was going to offer any introductions but decided to stay quiet as to not say the wrong thing.
Leon returned soon after and immediately apologized again. "The girls are really sweet but I can see where they'd be intimidating."
"I didn't realize there was another one," Marius smirked. "One not enough?"
Karina shrugged. "An opportunity presented itself and I thought Elsa would enjoy Ember's company."
Leon smiled, his eyes moving between Karina and Marius before he cleared his throat and held out a hand to Samantha. "I'm Leon."
"It's really nice to meet you." Samantha smiled. "I have to admit I'm a little star struck."
With a nod, he moved closer to the island. "And this is my lovely wife, Karina."
As soon as her eyes moved to Karina, it seemed like her smile dropped for a split second before Samantha recovered her composure. "Hello."
"I'd offer to shake hands too, but," Karina gestured to her ankle which was propped up on the next barstool. "I'm a little limited in my mobility at the moment."
Samantha nodded but soon looked away as if she was worried she'd been caught staring. "Oh yes, of course."
They continued to exchange small talk and pleasantries over dinner but Leon found himself running out of things to ask and he was growing tired of answering all of Samantha's questions about playing football professionally. He had noticed that Karina would participate in the conversation, there weren't any questions directed towards her and Marius seemed to be ignoring her completely.
Finally, he cleared his throat to cut through Samantha's chatter. "You want any more wine, Maus?"
"Oh god, yes." Karina suddenly sat up straighter as though she didn't mean to say her thoughts aloud. "Could you bring over the Black Forest red, please?"
As soon as Leon poured her a glass, Karina took a sip to occupy herself. He sat the bottle in the middle of the table but knowing it was one of Karina's favorites, he had hoped that the others wouldn't want much of it.
"I guess," Marius spoke up. "So I wanted you to meet Samantha because I've asked her to marry me."
Despite the glass up against her lips, Karina's eyes grew wide.
"Congratulations." Leon offered with a genuine smile.
Samantha sat there beaming with pride, her eyes on Marius.
"I was hoping you would agree to host both our families for the evening, Samantha likes the idea of an engagement dinner." Marius glanced back at Samantha who nodded approvingly.
Eventually, Leon realized Marius was talking to him. "What? Here? I don't really think there's room for both-"
"No, no," Samantha let out a forced giggle. "I hear you have a beautiful house south of here in the alps."
"Really?" Leon looked to Marius now. "So you come here and you ignore Karina the entire time and then ask me if you can use her house for a family event?"
Karina rose her voice slightly, knowing Leon would stop when he heard her speak. "That's fine, just let us know when."
"Maus," Leon made sure he had her eye. "Are you sure that's a good idea?"
Suddenly Samantha interrupted everyone. "What is going on?"
Both Leon and Karina looked to Marius as if they were giving him a chance to explain things how he wanted to.
"Karina is my sister." He still wouldn't look at her.
Samantha looked to Karina then back at Marius. "But you've never mentioned…"
"My entire family hates me," Karina shrugged. "They like to pretend I don't exist."
"The house in Berchtesgaden belongs to Karina. She's being a lot nicer than Marius deserves by hosting you." Leon wasn't necessarily glaring but it was easy for Samantha to see that it was a sensitive subject for him.
Marius glanced at Karina and grudgingly offered his thanks.
"Ok," Karina pushed her chair away from the table. "Are you staying for dessert?"
Leon took the dogs out for their evening walk once Marius and Samantha left and came back to find Karina already in bed. He had every intention of going back to clean up the kitchen, but he decided to lay down with her for a few minutes first.
"You ok?" Leon laid down next to Karina and kissed her temple.
Karina immediately turned on her side and nestled in against him. "I'm fine. I knew it would play out pretty much as it did. Is there any wine left?"
"I'll go check." Leon let out a little groan as he sat up. "I need to clean up anyway."
Before he could move away, Karina took his hand and gave it a little tug. "No, stay. I'll clean up in the morning."
"What's wrong, Maus?" As soon as Karina nestled back against him, Leon slipped his hand under the hem of her shirt and rubbed her back.
"Nothing," Karina closed her eyes and smiled as she relaxed against him. "I just needed some attention."
Leon let out a little laugh as he pulled her closer. "I think I can do that."
He gently rubbed the back of her head for a few moments before clearing his throat. "Do you really want your family at the big house?"
"Not particularly." Karina moved back slightly so she could look at him. "But I don't really feel like dealing with the fallout if I said no either. It's a couple of days, max, and I can always kick them out if they decide to be awful."
Leon thought about how he wanted to phrase what he was going to say before he decided to say it. "You don't have to forgive them, you know. If you want to, that's one thing, but you shouldn't feel obligated to.
"I don't." Karina was very matter-of-fact in her reply. "I'm not even sure if I want to be at their wedding but I kinda want them to see that I don't need them."
With a little nod, Leon pulled Karina back against his chest and rested his chin atop her head. "I'm proud of you, Maus."

Still Falling - A Fic Tease
The Return of the Nowish Fic Teases! This one is a series of Staubrey scenes from a story I plan on writing called “Proposals, Weddings and Promises.” Did I call it that JUST so I can shorten it to PWP? Maybe… That story will, eventually, be both the Bechloe and Staubrey weddings from proposals to final dance (and maybe honeymoon). But for now have a much delayed Staubrey Week 2019 entry.
Plus I hurt my soul writing Can’t Help Falling and this was my way to get past it.
Edited to add that it takes place post-Worlds and pre-Nowish.
As always, thank you to @tiny-maus-boots for being the Master Beta, editor and sounding board.
Rating: Teen

“Stacie! Did you call to give me more embarrassing stories about my sister? Please tell me yes!”
Stacie laughed as she adjusted the phone against her ear. “Sorry to disappoint you, Aiden. She’s been on her best behavior.”
He snorted. “That’ll be the day.”
“True.” Stacie leaned back in her office chair. “Despite the pressure of school, I’m glad she seems to have… relaxed… a lot the past couple months.” While the move to LA had been stressful, Aubrey still wasn’t even close to the ball of tension she’d been since Stacie had met her. The visit to the Posen estate over Thanksgiving – and spending time with her brothers – had been exactly what Aubrey had needed to unwind.
“Me too,” he said sincerely. “The past few years she’s been… She’s had…” Aiden trailed off, obviously trying not to be offensive.
“A stick up her ass?” Stacie grinned.
“Your words, not mine.” Stacie could almost see him hold up his hand as if to ward off a blow. “I don’t want her to hit me; it stings like the dickens.” She heard him close a door and the background murmur she’d been hearing cut off. “Everything okay though? Did you have a good birthday last week?”
“Yeah, we’re great and yes I did. Thank you for the picture. I love it.” Asher and Aiden had sent along a baby picture of Aubrey’s that Stacie had fallen in love with the second she saw it in Aubrey’s bedroom. In it a very serious faced Aubrey was standing stiffly at attention, saluting the General who stood opposite her. He was saluting her back, every inch the perfect soldier; but even in profile and only able to see one eye, the pride and love he felt for his daughter was obvious.
“You’re welcome. You know Asher and I consider you family.”
Stacie squirmed in her chair, caught between pleasure at the words and a lifetime of avoiding anything like them. “Thanks.” It felt lame, but it was still hard to express certain things with anyone but Aubrey.  “I… feel the same way.” She rolled her eyes at herself. ‘Real warm, Conrad.’
When she’d set her mind to wooing Aubrey, Stacie hadn’t considered the fact that she would also be accepting the Posen’s as a family into her life as well. Which she should have because she knew how close Aubrey and her brothers were. It wasn’t that she didn’t like them, she did – though she was pretty sure Mother Posen didn’t approve of her – but she had no idea how to express any of it. Except to Aubrey, where she felt safe enough to talk about anything.
“Sorry,” he said cheerfully. “I forgot you’re not big on the feels. Bossy will change that soon enough. With a little teasing – I mean help – from her older and wiser brothers.”
“I have no doubt,” she said with another laugh, feeling the discomfort fade. They really had made her, and Beca, feel like family at Thanksgiving. She didn’t think it would be long before she loved them as much as her own brother.
“I’m sure you didn’t call me just so I could tease you.” She heard him settle into his own chair.
“Not exactly.” Stacie took a measured breath. “Do you think General Posen would give me the recipe for his BBQ sauce?” As she expected there was a long pause.
“I dunno Stacie, the General considers that classified information.” Aiden hesitated. “I mean, you definitely impressed all of us with how much you knew about marinades and dry rubs…” He paused and Stacie heard what had to be a stifled snicker.
“No wonder you and Beca got along so well.” Stacie laughed. “You both live in the gutter.” She ignored Beca’s voice in the back of her head that asked ‘Would you like to be pot or kettle?’
Despite the inappropriately hilarious innuendos, there had been a very intense discussion on all things barbeque over Thanksgiving: The best brands of BBQ’s, best ways to prepare all the various things you could cook on them and then the actual cooking process itself. After twenty minutes Beca had escaped to the kitchen, ostensibly to see if she could help but Stacie knew that she was really hoping to steal something to snack on. Beca still hadn’t developed any real cooking skills beyond breakfast and all the talk of food prep had only served to make her even hungrier and dinner was still at least an hour away. Plus she’d begun to look pained with the effort of not laughing during the dry rub discussion and Stacie imagined she’d paused somewhere to giggle uncontrollably before finding the others.
“Guilty as charged.” He said with another laugh before picking up where he’d left off. “But he hasn’t even hinted at what’s in it to any of us. I don’t even think Mom knows.”
Stacie sighed and played with the pencil sitting on the desk in front of her. “I know Aiden, but if I’ve learned one thing over the past few years, you never know unless you ask.”
“That’s a fair point.” She heard him hum under his breath and could almost picture him purse his lips exactly like Aubrey did when she was considering something big.
“I just… I wanted to give Aubrey a surprise. She followed the three of us to LA without hesitation and…”
“Is she unhappy?” He asked it quick, but she could tell he wasn’t really worried. “She seemed fine at Thanksgiving.”
“No, nothing like that.” Stacie shook her head even though he couldn’t see her. “School has been kicking her ass, just a little, and… She’s got an interview in a few weeks at the law firm Beca’s label uses, to be an intern, and when she gets it, I wanted to surprise her with a taste of home.”
“I knew you were mushy at heart.” Aiden teased but she heard brotherly pride and approval in it.
“Only when your sister is involved,” Stacie said easily.
“Aw, now you’re just buttering me up so I’ll do it,” he accused.
“Guilty.” Stacie cradled her phone to her ear. “Did it work?”
“Of course it did.” He snorted. “I’m her big brother and making her happy is coded into my DNA.”
“I know the feeling,” Stacie muttered and flushed when he laughed. She hadn’t meant to say it out loud.
“If it’s cool, I’ll give Dad your number and have him call you. Is it okay that I tell him why you’re asking?”
“Of course, I expected nothing less.” Stacie felt herself relax, only then realizing that she’d been tense since she’d made the decision to call and picked up her cell.
“I can’t promise anything, but I’m sure he’ll at least call you to say no.” He laughed again. “Of course, if he says yes you know I expect to have you share with me.”
“Aiden,” Stacie sat up and leaned her elbows on her desk. “If he hasn’t given it to you, I’m sure as hell not going to go against him and give it to you if he entrusts me with it.”
“Aubrey always did pick the smart ones,” Aiden said. “Alright, Stacie. I’ll call Dad tonight when I know he’s not in the office anymore. Not sure when he’ll call you though.”
“That’s fine. Thanks, Aiden.” Stacie closed her eyes in relief. She’d been afraid he’d refuse outright because she was an outsider. In hindsight, she should’ve known better; Aiden and Asher had welcomed her in with arms wide open when Aubrey had first told them they were dating. Hell, at Thanksgiving she’d been treated exactly like Aubrey from the second they’d arrived - like a younger sister with all the teasing that accompanied it. It had been strange to realize that she’d already felt almost as comfortable with Aubrey’s brothers as she did with her own. It had also made her miss Derek and she’d gone to see him the following weekend.
“Anytime, Stacie. I hate to say it, but I do have to go. Army never rests and all that.” She heard him sigh. “I hope to be able to come visit soon”
“It’s okay, I understand.  My lunch break is almost over anyway. And we would love you to visit.” Stacie eyed the clock, wishing she was already off work and headed for the condo. “Tell Asher hi for me, will ya?”
“’Course.” She heard someone knock on the door in the background and Aiden’s voice quieted as he turned his head away. “I’ll be out in a minute.” He came back to the phone. “Be good and don’t let Bossy live up to her name.”
“But what if I like it when she does?” Stacie couldn’t help herself and grinned at the gagging sound he made.
“Nope! No! HangingupnowbyeStacie.” He said in a rush.
“Laters, Aide,” Stacie said as the line went dead. “So easy.”
Standing she put her phone in her lab coat pocket and stretched. “Now I just have to convince the General to give up a family secret to an unknown. No big deal. Piece of cake.”
Leaving her office for the lab, Stacie spared one final thought before she put it away. It would do no good to dwell while she waited to hear from Aubrey’s father. ‘Please let this work.’

Sunday, January 17th, 2016
When her phone rang, Stacie almost ignored it. She usually screened unknown numbers by letting them go to voicemail and calling them back if it was a legitimate call. Except she didn’t have the General’s number and she wasn’t sure if she’d be able to call him back. With a quick glance to make sure she was alone – completely unnecessary as Aubrey had gone to the store for dinner supplies – she forced her nerves away and answered. “Stacie Conrad.”
“Stacie.” The General’s gruff voice filled her ear. “How are you?”
“I’m great, Sir. I hope your weekend has been good.” She had never been good with parents and rolled her eyes at her stilted words.
“Passing well. Lydia didn’t have any events this weekend so we’ve just been rattling around the house.” He let out a chuckle. “But I’ll spare you the boring details of two old people filling their days and just hop right into it.” He paused and Stacie took a quiet breath, bracing herself as she sat at their kitchen table. “I hear you want some classified information.”
Despite the smile she could hear in his voice, Stacie’s tension grew as the moment she’d been thinking of for two months finally arrived. “Actually, Sir, the recipe is sort of secondary to why I wanted to talk to you.” She took another breath. “I’m sorry I wasn’t one hundred percent truthful with Aiden, but I wanted to do this right.” The hand not holding her phone began to ache and she forced herself to relax the fist she hadn’t realized she’d been making in her lap, resting it palm down on the table.
“And that is?” Thankfully he sounded curious instead of angry.
“I want to ask Aubrey to marry me and I was hoping to get your blessing Sir, General Posen, Sir.” She stared at her left hand where it pressed into the wood so hard her fingertips blanched white. ‘Maybe that was overkill…’
“I see.” It was completely neutral, no hint of anything she’d been expecting: surprise, disapproval or anything in between.
Her heart, which had already been trying to pound its way from between her ribs, tripled in speed. She would have licked her lips to wet them but her mouth had gone dry. “I realize that we’ve only been together for a short time, but I have loved Aubrey for years even though I didn’t realize it.” She wished she had some water but she didn’t trust her legs to hold her up. “I never thought – I never planned to fall in love. So I didn’t recognize what I was feeling as anything more than fondness. Until a year ago when I…” She trailed off with a self-deprecating laugh. “Until I couldn’t hide from my truth anymore.”
“That you loved Aubrey.” He made it a statement not a question and still there was no hint of what he might be thinking.
“Yes, General Posen.” Stacie shifted in her chair. “By the time I realized it, I thought it was too late… She was dating Thad, had even brought him home.” There was a small sound through the phone but she couldn’t tell if it was because the General had approved or disapproved of Aubrey’s boyfriend. “But then I got this second chance to prove to her what I’d spent all that time hiding from myself. That I love her with everything I am or ever will be.”
Stacie forced herself to take a breath, feeling lightheaded from all the emotions bouncing around inside her. She tried not to read too much into the fact that the General hadn’t said anything at all; he was military, he was a man who needed all the facts to make his decisions and likely rarely gave in to his emotions. Stacie understood it – Aubrey was the same way, though she was listening to her emotions more – and could respect it. She’d been planning different versions of this speech since Thanksgiving.
“So while I realize and appreciate that it could look like I’m moving too fast, that I’m setting us up for failure… I don’t want to waste any more time in starting the rest of my life with the only person I have ever – will ever – love.” She heard her throat click as she swallowed dryly, determined to get the rest of it out before she had her nervous breakdown.
“I know I’m not… what you and Mrs. Posen had envisioned for your daughter as you watched her grow up into the beautiful woman she is today. I know we come from two different worlds…” Stacie trailed off. “But I love her. And I promise to cherish Aubrey as the amazing woman she is for every second of the rest of our life together. Forever. It’s not a word I use lightly – one I never thought I would use at all. But it’s what I want with everything that I am.” She hesitated. “I just hope that I can live up to the way Aubrey loves me; prove to her every day that she didn’t make a mistake in choosing me.”
Stacie let herself fall silent; there was nothing left to do but wait for his answer.
As the silence grew, her heart fell. She knew she wasn’t good enough – not yet – for Aubrey, but she thought that the Posen’s had accepted her over the holidays. At least enough that when she’d realized she was going to ask Aubrey to marry, Stacie knew she had to do it the right way from the start. And in Aubrey’s world, that meant asking her father… Except he still hadn’t said anything and each passing second felt like a stone in her heart.
Even if he refused, Stacie still planned to propose to Aubrey; there wasn’t a force on Earth that could prevent that from happening. She’d had the ring since the beginning of November, already knowing that Aubrey was her future, but had only recently solidified how she wanted to propose. They were meant to be, she knew that now, so while Stacie didn’t really worry that Aubrey would say no – brief moments of insecurity aside – she didn’t want to be the cause of a rift between Aubrey and her family.
“And the recipe?” His voice startled her from her musings.
“She told me that, as a child, she loved barbeque nights. Because that meant you were home.” Stacie didn’t think Aubrey would mind her sharing this secret, but she still wanted to squirm a little. “And I want to show her that I… want… to be her home. Because she is mine.”
There was another long silence before he spoke again.
“Do you have pen and paper handy?”
“Yes, Sir!” Too afraid to let herself hope, Stacie scrambled to stretch out an arm that had become leaden with nerves and pull over the notepad they used for groceries.
"First, I want to remind you that if you give this to any of my children, I will both be disappointed and then lock you away in a bunker for treason.” Amusement laced his voice though there was something else underneath it.
She nodded before remembering he couldn’t see her. “Of course. I would expect nothing less. But I promise I’ll guard it with my life.”
“I know you will.” This was said softer and Stacie knew they weren’t talking about barbeque sauce anymore. He cleared his throat. “As you know, we go for a sweeter taste up here in Northern Virginia, so it’s more tomato based. But the real trick is to make sure you let it sit for a night after you mix it all together and then heat it slowly when you’re ready.”
“Got it.” Stacie said as he gave her the ingredients, taking meticulous notes in a shorthand she had made up in college. The last thing she wanted was for Aubrey to find it and ruin the surprise.
As he spoke, silent tears tracked down her face, moved beyond words at the unspoken but unmistakable approval of her as a partner for Aubrey.

Sunday, February 14th, 2016
Stacie was sure she was going to throw up.
The tension in her body had grown all day and now that the moment of truth was almost here, she wasn’t sure she could eat the dinner she’d spent the day preparing.
On Saturday she’d been spared coming up with an excuse to get Aubrey out of the house by Beca insisting that Aubrey go with her for a last minute gift consultation. Apparently she’d bought something for Chloe and decided that maybe she’d picked up the wrong thing – earrings versus bracelet, if Stacie heard right – so Stacie had had several hours free to mix together the recipe given to her by the General the month before.
Chloe, who Stacie had confided in three weeks before, had stored the various ingredients Stacie picked up in preparation. It was a testament to how nervous Stacie was that she hadn’t realized one simple fact until Chloe pointed it out: Putting together the incredibly complicated recipe was essentially chemistry and who better to replicate it than an actual chemist? Chloe had also offered moral support as Stacie had carefully measured and poured, more focused on getting everything correct, more meticulous than she even was in her lab.
Once she was done, Stacie had sealed it tightly and wrapped plain brown paper around the container and neatly printed “Aubrey Keep Out” on it with a smiley face and a heart. She knew that single command to stay away would drive Aubrey absolutely insane for the next day but she’d also respect Stacie’s desire to surprise her.
“She’s going to love it.” Chloe put her hand on Stacie’s shoulder as she closed the fridge. “Even without the marinating, that test taste definitely tasted like the sauce I remember from the last time I was there.”
“Yeah?” Stacie turned to clean up the mess she’d littered over the kitchen counters. “You’re not just saying that?”
“You know better.” Chloe shoulder bumped her. “It’ll be perfect.” She turned on the faucet and set it to warm so she could start rinsing plates to put them in the washer. “I knew you had a sappy side.”
“Don’t tell anyone.” Stacie started to gather her trash to throw out before Aubrey got home.
“Too late, they all know.” Chloe said easily.
Stacie just hoped that Aubrey wasn’t disappointed that they weren’t going out on their first official Valentine’s Day. It wasn’t a day that had meant anything to Stacie in the past, but like asking the General for Aubrey’s hand, it was one more thing she wanted to do right. And for what she had in mind, she didn’t want it to be in public. She wanted it to be just for them. So she’d asked Aubrey if it would be alright if she made them a home cooked meal and she had immediately agreed.
Now, after cooking the ribs for several hours and then slathering sauce on one side and then the other for another half, Stacie carried two plates out to the table Aubrey had finished setting out on their balcony.
“I know it’s not a glamorous restaurant, but I wanted to try and give you something special for our first Valentine’s Day together.  I know I can’t really match it, but you said how much you miss home cooked barbeque, so I thought…”
“I love it.” Aubrey interrupted her rambling and put her hand on Stacie’s. “I love you.” She took her seat. “It smells amazing, love.” Aubrey had kept coming out to the balcony to sniff over her shoulder, something Stacie had allowed until it was time to sauce them.
Stacie’s mouth was dry again and she wished she could gulp the beer Aubrey had poured earlier. “Thanks.” She sat on the edge of her chair, surreptitiously wiping her hands on her napkin she draped over her lap. “Guess it’s the moment of truth.”
Aubrey picked up her glass and held it up. “Happy Valentine’s Day, Stacie.”
“Happy Valentine’s, Bree.” Stacie gratefully lifted her glass and clinked it gently against hers. “There is nowhere else I want to be than with you.”
Aubrey’s voice softened. “Me either.” She reached her free hand over and rested it on Stacie’s arm while they both sipped their beer. Setting down her glass she looked at her plate. “I still can’t believe you cooked this all day.”
Stacie took another small drink, for courage and moisture. “It wasn’t that much trouble. Just let it sit and do its thing ‘til it’s time to turn it and poke it with a fork to see if it’s done.” She couldn’t figure out what to do with her hands and felt she was dangerously close to turning into Beca with her gestures, so she put them in her lap where her fingers twisted tightly together.
Nothing in her life had been more important than this moment; than the woman sitting bathed in sunlight that lit the highlights in her hair and brought out the sparkles in her eyes. It was more than living up to the legacy left to her by her grandmother’s rose quartz, a fact she knew would amuse Gran endlessly. She could almost feel her Gran’s hand on her hair and the loving way she’d have told Stacie ‘I told you one day you’d need it.’
Aubrey shot her a glance out of the corner of her eye, her lips curling into a smile. “The anticipation is killing you, isn’t it?”
“You have no idea,” Stacie muttered.
“Aw, baby.” Aubrey shook her head. “Alright, I’ll put you out of your misery.” Like any true connoisseur of fine barbeque, Aubrey picked up one of the ribs with her fingers and delicately took a bite, her eyes closing to savor the moment. Stacie, watching closely, saw the second realization hit. Aubrey’s eyes flew open and met hers. “Stacie?” Aubrey took another, bigger bite, and Stacie felt relief wash over her even as she smiled at the smear of sauce that ended up across Aubrey’s cheek.
“Yes?” She strived for nonchalance and leaned back in her chair, her left hand dipping into the band of her skirt where she’d stored the small box she’d had for months, waiting for her heart to actually break through her ribs.
“This is… Dad’s… how did…?” Aubrey took a third bite instead of continuing. “It’s perfect, love.” Her eyes closed again, a hum of pure contented enjoyment coming from her throat as Stacie reached out and wiped away the sauce with her thumb. “He hasn’t even given us that recipe. How?”
Stacie slipped from her chair and knelt on one knee. “He gave it to me the day I asked his permission to marry the love of my life.” She opened the box and waited. It wasn’t that she was worried about a no… except she’d been wrong before. At the retreat. And she didn’t know what would happen if she was wrong again.
Aubrey’s fingers opened in shock, dropping the rib back to her plate as she turned to face where Stacie had been sitting before turning shocked emerald eyes downward. Her mouth opened but no words came out as she took in the ring before her.
“Aubrey Marie Posen,” Stacie said, her voice shaking from the strength of the love coursing through her veins. “I didn’t know it, but I have loved you since the night of the riff-off and I watched you laugh at a horror movie.”
Aubrey’s hand reached up to trace her throat, fingers looking for a Bella scarf that hadn’t been there in years. Stacie smiled gently at her; wanting so much to reach out and touch her reassuringly and hoping one day to make that nervous tick a thing of the past.
“It took me too long to realize it and I’m sorry.” She licked her lips again. “I know we’ve only lived together for a short time, but I don’t want to wait any longer to start our life together.”
Aubrey’s eyes flickered from the ring to Stacie’s eyes, wondering and filled with something Stacie couldn’t pin down. Her hands wanted to shake from nervousness but she willed them to behave as she waited for Aubrey to say something.
Instead, Aubrey frantically wiped her hands on her napkin, turning away slightly and Stacie’s heart stuttered in its wild beat, wondering if she’d been wrong, if this wasn’t the time… But Aubrey merely pulled something from underneath a second napkin that Stacie hadn’t realized was sitting on one of the empty chairs. Stacie looked down as the small box that mirrored her own was opened and balanced in one delicate palm.
Everything inside her went calm and still as she met Aubrey’s watery gaze with her own.
“Yes.”

“I told you she was going to cry.”
“Beca!” Amy threw a small handful of rice at Beca where she sat at the piano. “Even I know you’re not supposed to say that during a wedding rehearsal. It’s expected that the bride cries.”
“Then you should also know that you don’t actually need to bring rice to the rehearsal.” Beca shot back, unable to wipe off the ones that had landed on her shoulder. “It’s also not nice to throw things at the pianist.”
“Did you just call yourself a penis?” Amy asked incredulously. “What else about you do I not know?”
Stacie grinned as Chloe broke off singing and began to laugh. “I’ve missed you, Amy.”
“Because I’m fun.” Amy shrugged and threw a few more pieces of rice at Beca. “Even when my friends keep secrets from me.”
“Oh my god.” Beca stopped playing and covered her face though Stacie knew it was to hide her grin. “There are no secrets, Amy.”
Stacie looked back up the aisle as Aubrey walked toward them, clearly torn between amusement and annoyance. Amusement won as Stacie reached for the box of Kleenex she had kept close.
“Like we’d trust you to tell the truth.” Aubrey took the tissue Stacie handed her and wiped at her face. “We’ll have to ask Chloe if we want answers.”
“Oh, well.” Chloe said, covering the microphone confidentially. “In that case…”
“Do not.” Beca turned on the piano bench and pointed a finger. “Do not give Amy any ammunition to make things up.”
“Oh, Beca.” Ashley shook her head. “Don’t you know that just fuels us more?”
“Did you really need all of them tonight?” Beca looked at Aubrey. “Like, couldn’t we have just used chairs since only Chloe and I are moving around during the procession?”
“Nope.” Aubrey said cheerfully. “It’s my wedding, I get to do what I want.”
“Bridezilla.” Beca winced as Chloe backhanded her shoulder lightly. “We’ve been married not even four months and the abuse starts.”
“Like we don’t know you love it.” Jessica grinned at her.
“Guys – maybe not in front of the parents?” Aubrey cleared her throat. “Chlo, Beca, do you guys mind going through it one more time?”
Beca answered first. “Of course not, Aubrey.”
“Thanks, DJ.” Stacie smiled at Beca before turning to give Aubrey a kiss on the cheek. “I think that last pacing was fine, love.”
“Thanks.” Aubrey squeezed her hand before joining her father to walk back down the aisle and out of the room.
After one last look around to make sure everyone was in place, Beca began to play “Can’t Help Falling in Love." As Chloe started to sing, Aubrey and the General reappeared in the doorway and made their way down the aisle.
At first Stacie wasn’t sure the song was appropriate; it had broken her heart when Aubrey had told her what had happened after their single night together in college. It hurt her in ways she wouldn’t have dreamed possible to think of Aubrey standing in the Bella living room, listening to this song and burying all her feelings. When Stacie had come back downstairs, she’d had no idea that Aubrey had been crying minutes before and learning about it had brought Stacie to tears.
But over the past few months, Aubrey had convinced Stacie that it would turn the song into something wonderful instead of a painful memory. “Besides, it’s my truth. I tried not to... but I couldn’t help falling in love with you.”
Now, watching Aubrey walk toward her, Stacie knew it was her truth too.
And tomorrow, finally, they would belong to each other and she’d never let Aubrey go.
 ~Amy~
Friday, August 19th, 2016
Amy took the microphone off the stand and looked over the reception room.
“As is tradition, the two brides will have their first dance and they’ve given me the honor of singing it for them.” She waited as the room erupted into whistles and cheers before looking over at the table behind her. “So, if you two would please stop snogging for two seconds and make your way to the dance floor?” The cheers became catcalls as a half blushing, all smiles Aubrey was led to the center of the room by a grinning Stacie.
Amy took a deep, steadying breath and, with one last glance around at her sisters, began to sing “Still Falling For You” by Ellie Goulding. There was no music or instruments, they were aca-people after all, but her voice was steady and smooth. While she’d been practicing this song almost daily for two months, she was still afraid she’d screw it up. Rationally, she knew no one would care but she would feel terrible even as she pretended to laugh it off.
Fire and ice This love is like fire and ice This love is like rain and blue skies This love is like sun on the rise This love got me rolling the dice Don't let me lose Still falling for you Still falling for you
She couldn’t help but smile as she watched Stacie gently spin Aubrey, both of them lost in each other’s eyes. There had been bets amongst the Bellas on who would lead this first dance, but it hadn’t even been a thought in Aubrey’s head. Once she’d stopped running from her feelings, Aubrey had given everything she was to Stacie without hesitation – including putting Stacie’s name above her own.
Beautiful mind Your heart got a story with mine Your heart got me hurting at times Your heart gave me new kind of highs Your heart got me feeling so fine So what to do Still falling for you Still falling for you
There were a few low whistles as Stacie dipped Aubrey and kissed her, both of them motionless as they got lost in each other before Stacie righted them again. Aubrey pulled her close, her arms winding around Stacie’s neck as they moved in perfect sync.
It took us a while With every breath a new day With love on the line We've had our share of mistakes But all your flaws and scars are mine Still falling for you Still falling for you
It had definitely been a journey, watching the two of them circle each other over the past five years and Amy was honored to be part of their new beginning.
Amy had never been big on family, her own having devolved into a nightmare that drove her away once her mother passed, but she had begun to realize that the women sitting on either side of the head table behind her were just that. So it didn’t surprise her that when she reached the chorus, eight voices joined her own, filling the space around her with music. Because of course they would. Unrehearsed. Without thought. No hesitation or even a question amongst them.
Aubrey and Stacie both looked up, eyes bright and shining in the dim light, their smiles flashing as the Bellas sung them into this new phase of their life. Their voices lifted and weaved, announcing to everyone in the room how much they loved the couple gliding smoothly across the center of the room.
And just like that All I breathe All I feel You are all for me I'm in And just like that All I breathe All I feel You are all for me No one can lift me, catch me the way that you do I'm still falling for you
Stacie and Aubrey looked around at them, their eyes bright and shining with unshed tears and shocked wonder. Amy could relate as she felt goosebumps on her arms as a rush of adrenaline hit her. They hadn’t talked about this, had never practiced singing this particular song together, but their voices lifted hers up and she felt she was starting to understand why people cried at weddings.
Family. This was her chosen one and she would lay down her life for any one of them. Even Legacy.
While they stopped singing for the next stanza, they kept the beat with snaps as Lilly provided the bass, letting Amy take the lead once more.
Brighter than gold This love shining brighter than gold This love is like letters in bold This love is like out of control This love is never growing old You make it new Still falling for you Still falling for you
It took us a while 'Cause we were young and unsure With love on the line What if we both would need more But all your flaws and scars are mine Still falling for you Still falling for you Still falling for you
Amy thought the song was definitely the perfect choice for the two of them. They had been fire and ice; they had both been young and unsure. But even Amy had figured out by the ICCAs that there was more to the two of them than just Captain and Bella. Of course, Amy herself had been young and stupid and hadn’t given it much thought until that last Thanksgiving at the Bella house. Even then she’d not realized the depth of their emotions, both of them too adept at hiding it at that point. But seeing them together over the past two weeks leading up to the wedding… Aubrey was like a completely different person. Or, rather, she was the person they’d only caught glimpses of that first year; completely relaxed, open and… Amy smiled to herself as Aubrey laughed at something Stacie whispered in her ear. Someone not afraid to let go.
The rest of the Bellas joined her for the chorus again and Amy realized that they were approaching the end of the song.
And just like that All I breathe All I feel You are all for me I'm in And just like that All I breathe All I feel You are all for me No one can lift me, catch me the way that you do Still falling for you Falling, crash into my arms Love you like this Like a first kiss Never let go Falling, crash into my arms Never breaking what we got Still falling for you Still falling for
There was a breathless pause before they gave it their all and Amy was glad this was being recorded because she never wanted to forget a second of how connected to them all she felt in this instant.
And just like that All I breathe All I feel You are all for me I’m in And just like that All I breathe All I feel You are all for me All for me
Then, one by one, their voices fell silent until only Amy’s remained.
And just like that All I feel is you All I feel is you You are all for me I’m still falling And just like that All I feel is you All I feel is you
As she sang the last few lines she fought to keep from tensing up.
Amy had been waiting for this moment for five very long weeks. She had told no one the plan and while she may have been a safe that locks there were just some things that begged to be shared. But she’d held off and now that the moment was here she couldn’t wait to see the looks on their faces.
Stacie and Aubrey had slowly been moving around the floor, whispering and nuzzling each other, but over the last few lines they had drifted to stand in front of Amy.
Amy took a breath, hoping no one thought anything of her pause before singing the last few lines of the song, as she casually held the mic out further than she had been.
“You are all for me.”
Stacie and Aubrey sang it together, both their faces going almost comically slack in shock, before identical smiles of pure joy lit up the room. Stacie cupped Aubrey’s face with both hands as the two of them finished the song together.
No one can lift me, catch me the way that you do I’m still falling for you
Aubrey pulled her in and kissed her while the room went still around them. Amy stepped to the side, leaving them alone and hoped the photographer was on the ball and capturing this moment of sheer perfection.
Stacie had come to her with the idea first: “So, if Bree and I happen to end up in front of you at the end of the song, do you think you could hold the mic out for me to sing the last bit?”
Amy had agreed and immediately called Stacie whipped – affectionately, of course.
Aubrey had called her a week later: “Would it be crazy if I wanted to sing the last three lines at the end of the dance?”
Amy almost laughed, except she knew Aubrey would assume Amy was laughing at her and that was the last thing she wanted. So she’d choked it back and told Aubrey it wasn’t crazy at all and she’d be happy to hold the mic out for her if she could get Stacie there.
She’d obviously heard about their double proposal and the fact that they both had the exact same idea about their first dance song proved that they were obviously meant for each other. It had killed her not to share this secret with Beca but some things were better as surprises. Speaking of…
Amy turned and looked where Beca and Chloe had been sitting and couldn’t help the laugh that burst out of her – thankfully she’d turned the mic off when she’d stepped out of the way, she’d have hated to ruin the still ongoing kiss but she couldn’t help it. Beca was full on ugly crying as she held tightly to Chloe’s hand; not that Chloe was beyond that herself, but the only other time Amy had seen Beca cry this hard was at her own wedding.
Not that Amy was one to talk. She took the tissue that Lilly held out to her and dabbed at her cheeks as the entire reception room filled with a roar of approval as the brides finally separated, even if it was only to rest their foreheads together.
Amy cleared her throat and turned on her mic.
“Ladies, gentlemen… And Trebles.” She only waved as good natured jeers came from the far side of the room. “I present to you Mrs. & Mrs. Posen-Conrad.”
Family.
Amy thought it again as the noise grew deafening but the Bellas were still louder than the rest as they stood up and cheered at their tables.
My family.

Eleteo Apperception week Day 1
Happy Valentines Day everyone!!
I think it’s the first time in a while I've participated in a ship week for any fandom, so I’m ready to get back in it again for @eleteoappreciationweek!
I’ve decided that I’m going to do everyday of this week as an AU along with the theme (working hard to become the AU Queen :)))
So today is and Modern!AU on Valentine’s day, enjoy!
Valentine's Day, a day where it takes at least an hour to get into any restaurant and every major store is decked out to the nines in red and hearts, with last minute shoppers grabbing gifts.
But it was always worth it for that special someone.
Well, it would be if you weren't a first year Engineering student like Mateo De Alva; who was currently hunched over his History textbook, trying to review yesterday's materials, while his stomach let out a large growl.
Mateo groaned as his forehead landed with a thud on the thick book.
And here he had thought ordering a pizza for one would’ve been a quick and easy dinner, considering he had already devoured all the chocolate his mami had sent him, along with a very loving and passive aggressive Valentines card.
Some of his buddies from University had invited him out to celebrate the holiday together, go to a bar and maybe even pick up some girls. But that wasn’t really Mateo’s scene. Even after moving out and slowly leaving behind the awkward teenager he had been, he still enjoyed being in more quiet and intimate settings.
Besides, it was hard to enjoy down time when he had an exam coming up soon in one of his less than stellar subjects. Now if it would have been Calculus, his best subject by far...he still probably wouldn’t have gone out. So, he would take the texts and jokes about being alone on Valentine's Day and would trudge on.
He then felt something rub against his calf.
“Alright Dulce, I’ll get you your food,” Mateo said as he reached down and scratched behind his Egyptian Mau’s ears.
The cat began purring and looked up at him with her wide bright eyes.
Mateo smiled as he made his way over to the kitchen and poured out her food. He expected her to come running over and scarf it down like she usually did, especially since he had been putting her on a diet after she started looking chunky.
Except she didn’t. In fact, she wasn’t even in the kitchen, and was instead standing by the living room window. She had been doing that a lot today Mateo realized. Maybe she missed the breeze that would come through the opening of the window that didn’t close all the way. Thankfully though the landlord had finally come this morning and fixed it, considering the window let out to the fire escape, and Mateo would rather not have what little he owned stolen while he was away.
Suddenly, there was a loud pounding on his door.
“Armando’s Pizza,” A bored voice called out.
‘Finally,’ Mateo thought as he pulled out his wallet and opened the front door.
The teenager standing there looked highly unpleasant as he loudly smacked his gum. At least the pizza was inside a box and Mateo was on the verge of starvation.
Mateo was about to hand him a $20 when he saw a blur out of the corner of his eye.
“Dulce!” Mateo exclaimed as he pushed passed the delivery guy and tore down the hallway after his escaped cat.
“Hey man, come get your food!”
Mateo ignored him though, instead solely focusing on Dulce as he followed her down a couple flights of stairs and into the basement that held the on-site laundry facility.
Once he got down to the very bottom and flicked on the lights though, Dulce was nowhere to be found, causing Mateo to spend the next couple of minutes briskly looking for her.
Where on earth did she go?
“Migs!” A female voice then called out, followed by frantic footsteps coming down the stairs.
“Oh Mateo.”
“Hey Elena.”
Elena was his neighbor who lived in one of the nicer apartments on the higher floor. He had seen her around campus and was also known as her ‘laundry buddy’ since they spent every Sunday night here washing their clothes, chitchatting, and making sure their stuff didn’t get stolen.
Man, even in sweatpants and an old crop top did she look good.
“Have you seen a cat at all?” She then asked in a panic-stricken tone. “He’s a big Egyptian Mau that’s about 2 years old and I thought I saw him come this way.”
Mateo’s eyes widen, “Actually, I’m also looking for--”
A loud meow pierced the air.
The two of them made eye contact and followed the sound to a far corner of the room, right behind a broken and unused washer. They peered over the back and gasped.
Migs and Deluce were together...along with three little kittens nestled between them that couldn't have been more than a week old.
“Well...that definitely explains a few things,” Mateo remarked, feeling slightly guilty for how oblivious he had been.
“Aren’t you the little tomcat Migs, sneaking out for your girl and kids,” Elena playfully jabbed at her pet before turning to Mateo. “Guess this also makes us family now.”
Mateo wondered why such a ridiculous statement would make his heart skip a beat.
“We better take them up to my apartment and get them set up there,” Mateo hastily said as he slowly reached for the kittens and passed two of them to Elena. “They can’t be too comfortable here in the cold basement on someone's old towel.”
“I don’t think Migs will want to leave them though, is it alright if I get him set up in your place too?”
“Of course, you can stay as long as you like,” Mateo replied as he securely held the last kitten to his chest. He then silently made a mental note in his head to check if there was anything incriminating or embarrassing that he would need to quickly hide away.
“You probably shouldn’t have said that.” Elena buried her face in the fur of the kittens she held in her hand, “I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to part with these cuties.”
Mateo laughed at her childish tone and expression, “You can at least stay over for dinner, I just ordered--”
He was then reminded of the not so friendly looking delivery guy and the fact he ran away without paying him.
“On second thought, I may have actually just lost my dinner.”
Elena giggled, “I’ll cover dinner then, my abuela keeps pushing leftovers and snacks on me every time I go visit, I honestly can’t eat it all or I might explode.”
“I hear you there,” Mateo agreed, thinking about to his mami’s Valentines card, and how the very bottom had mentioned she would be sending a box of groceries soon, even though he insisted he went shopping every week.
“It will also give us plenty of time to discuss the custody of our grandkids here,” Elena said as she headed up the basement stairs first, with Deluce and Migs following close behind.
“I’m sure will have no problem trading off weeks.” Mateo grinned, “Though we may need to have a serious talk when it comes to splitting up holidays, especially Navidad.”
Elena responded with an adorable snort.
Mateo bit his lip. “By the way, I hope this little incident doesn’t ruin any plans you have for tonight.”
“Honestly, I was only planning on doing the responsible thing and studying for an upcoming exam tonight,” Elena said as she hit the button to call for the elevator, a good idea since Mateo’s lungs still hurt from his earlier workout. “How are you with Calculus by the way?”
Mateo smirked, “I may know a thing or two.”

[fic] Questhook (2)
Further adventures in the world of my smol dragon AU! This technically takes place before the last two scenes of Questhook, but I failed at organizing my document correctly, oh well.
In case it wasn’t clear, this AU started as my take on the prompt:
I am a dragon who collects pretty things, you're a kind local game shop owner who always shows me the prettiest dice when I come in and I'm not sure if you're staring at me because you can see through my glamour AU.
The bell above the door jingles and Jason has to do a double-take when Mau walks in. "I know you didn't open that," he tells her. "You aren't tall enough to reach the handle."
"Interesting that you use that as your argument and not the fact that she hasn't got opposable thumbs," is Tim's comment as he follows the cat inside.
"Have you seen her paws? She's polydactyl, practically has two paws on each of her forelegs. The way she uses those extra toes, she basically does have opposable thumbs," Jason says, busying himself with straightening the items in the counter's display case and determinedly not looking at Tim.
"Huh. Well, I hope it's not a problem I let her in. She was waiting at the door when I got there, so I figured…" Tim shrugs.
"According to Grace, Mau owns the building and Grace is just on the paperwork for legal reasons. If anyone has free rein of the property, it's her highness here." When he glances up, Tim is standing right in front of the counter, staring down at him. Jason gulps and nearly knocks over a figurine. "Don't feel you have to stick around to let Mau out again. I'm fairly certain she can walk through walls when she feels like it."
"Actually, I'm here as a potential customer. I lost some of my dice in the move to Gotham and I need replacements?" He smiles and Jason bangs his head on the underside of the counter in his hurry to stand up.
Rubbing his sore scalp, Jason fights down a grimace. "Don't tell me you're one of these role-playing types also?"
Tim laughs. "Guilty as charged, sorry."
It would figure that Jason finally meets a nice guy and he's secretly pretending to be an elven warrior or some shit in his free time. Sighing, he gestures to the counter on his right. "The nicer dice and miniatures are over there, if you want to browse. There are cheaper options on that wall," he indicates the corner of the store that's devoted entirely to various game paraphernalia, though Tim is already circling the counter to eye the dice displayed under glass with a critical eye.
"You have a nice selection," Tim says when Jason comes over. "The enameled ones look particularly well-crafted, though the opalite dice are very…" He trails off, a gleam in his eye.
Oh boy, one of those. Well, Jason can't really fault him—the stone dice are nice, though it's rare that anyone realizes what they are. "Are you a geologist or something? Most people assume they must be made out of some fancy plastic."
"I'm an engineer, actually. But rocks and gemstones are something of a hobby. I'll take the opalite."
"Sure, which one do you want?" Jason asks, pulling out the tray.
"Oh, all of them, of course. I couldn't break up such a beautiful set," Tim insists.
Jason raises an eyebrow but keeps his mouth shut as he carefully repackages the dice in the fancy box they originally came in. It's Tim's money, after all; if he wants to blow a big chunk of it on pretty rocks, far be it from Jason to say anything. As he rings up the sale, Tim glances around the store. "Something else you're looking for?" Jason asks.
"No. Well, yes, but not anything to buy. Miss Grace said you run games some nights? I used to play Wizards & Warriors with my friends in college, but they're all back on the west coast and I was hoping to join a new group."
"I run a couple of home-brew games, but I'm not really in charge of those. The groups rent out the back room, I'm just GM to keep down the property damage. You're welcome to try joining one of the groups, but ultimately the other players are the ones who have final say on whether anyone new can play."
"What kind of home-brew? I really liked the way my old group did things."
"Same basic game mechanics for initiative and all that, but one's a sort of noire murder mystery and the other is, uh. Space cops in space. Aliens and shit, I guess." Jason grimaces. He knows he's not the best at describing these things, but then he's not the one who came up with the initial game proposals, that was all the players.
Tim rocks back on his heels, humming thoughtfully. "I really like the high fantasy setting of W&W."
"Yeah, nothing like that at the moment, sorry. Well. Unless you want to join the peewee game, and I don't really…" Jason coughs. "It's a couple of preteen besties who want to play hero. Lots of rescuing villages from evil overlords, slaying dragons, that sort of thing. They only play twice a month since one of the players lives over in Metropolis."
That proposal earns him a violent shudder and Tim actively taking a step back from the counter. "No, I don't think so. I… have to get going. Unpacking left to do, you know," he says, grabbing his purchase and hurrying out the door.
Mau hops up on the counter and gives Jason a pointed look. "What? I already sacrifice enough of my free time to this stupid place. I'm not gonna start a new game just for him." Though maybe it would be worth it, just to have an excuse to stare at Tim for several hours each week.

January Wrap Up | 2019
This month I tried to read as many books as I possibly could because I’m starting my second semester of college and I know that I will not have time. I also really want to try and beat last year’s record of 150 books so I want to stay ahead of how many books I was reading last year. I really succeeded. I read a total of eighteen books which is amazing! A lot of those books were really great as well.
The first book I read of 2019 was Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce:
Tumblr media
This book started out a little rocky. I didn’t really like how fast we went through Arram’s schooling. Especially because it didn’t feel like the trio really grew that much until the end. But as Arram started to change and start to discover who he is then the story got a lot better. I really liked seeing Arram healing, it really felt like he was in his element and how passionately he works. I wish we got to see more of Varice, I still don’t really understand what a kitchen witch is. Ozorne was interesting but I also feel like I want to see more of him. I don’t know whether I’ll continue on with this series.
Next I read The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami:
Tumblr media
While I enjoyed this book, it wasn’t as good as 1Q84. The most interesting part of this book was the flashbacks to Manchuria and Boris the man skinner. It was horrifying and interesting. Toru wasn’t ask interesting as the other characters in 1Q84 and this book felt a little bit more pointless. However it was still interesting and the ending really saved it. I gave this four out of five stars.
Next I read The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Benjamin Alire Sáenz:
Tumblr media
I really loved Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe so I decided to read his other books. This book started out a bit rocky. I always get a little annoyed when authors throw in a bit of Spanish to make sure you know your Mexican characters are Mexican. The “No bueno” thing was really annoying. Every book that tries to be feminist, ends up being sexist. However, when the completely heartbreaking stuff started to kick in, I started to really enjoy this book. My favorite character was Fito Fresquez. He had such a tragic story and his sadness felt so real. While I had issues with this book in the beginning it turned out to be a pretty good book. I gave this book five out of five stars.
Then I went back to Haruki Murakami with Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage:
Tumblr media
This book was so good and has the protentional to be one of the best of the year. I related so much to Tsukuru because if I had a group of close friends and they suddenly decided to cut my out of their group, I would have no idea what to do. I also really liked Haida and am sad that there was no closer on what happened to him. What happed to Shiro is crazy and I would never forgive the friends for what she did. I’m sad that we didn’t get to see if Sara accepted Tsukuru but I think she did so there. I gave this book five out of five stars.
Next I randomly picked up The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt:
Tumblr media
This was an interesting book. It reminded me of Name of the Wind and that’s not a bad thing. It has beautiful writing and Theo reminds me a lot of Kvothe he has a serious passion, is border lined obsessed with a girl, and has a tragic backstory with his parents. I think the only thing that I didn’t like was that time jump was a little jarring, I wish that it had been more led in. But I really enjoyed this story. It was just…beautiful. I gave it five out of five stars.
I finally finished Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn Trilogy with The Last Command:
Tumblr media
This book was so amazing. Leia had her twins, Jaina and Jacen, and I cannot wait to see more about them. The ending is what really made this book great. There was a Luke clone which was such a good twist. Then in order for Mara to be free of the Emperor’s control she kills Luuke Skywalker. Very clever. Then Luke gives Mara his lightsaber. That’s so sweet. Such a great ending to this trilogy. Five out of five stars and one of the best of the years.
I continued on with Silver Spoon with Volume 4 by Hiromu Arakawa:
Tumblr media
I really enjoyed this volume! It’s nice to come back to this lighthearted series. I really like seeing more of Hachiken’s family, especially his father. I can’t wait to see more flashbacks of his middle school mental breakdown…does that make me a bad person? Any way, five out of five stars. Fun time.
Next for my YA Literature class I had to read the Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater:
Tumblr media
So I don’t really like the way Stiefvater writes. She usually has really great writing, semi-interesting premises but BORING characters. And this was no different. So borrinnggggggggg! I had to read this book for my YA Literature class and oh my god I was so uninterested in this book. The characters were so dull, I didn’t even bothering learning the side characters name. I didn’t care about the romance. I didn’t care about the world. I was so uninterested in this book. The premise was kind of interesting but it doesn’t save this nothing of a book. I gave this book one out of five stars.
Next I picked up The Complete Maus by Art Spiegelman:
Tumblr media
This was an incredibly sad story to read, like all Holocaust stories. The only problem I had with this is that the present day storyline too up a little too much time. I care more about what happened during the Holocaust then Vladek’s marriage problems. But it was still a great story. Five out of five stars.
Then I read An Echo of Things to Come by James Islington:
Tumblr media
I would say that I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed the first one. I wish we could have seen more of Caeden, Davian, Wirr, Kara, and Asha together. At points they would see one another but I really want to see them all interacting. But again Islington is really great at doing dark twists. I think Caeden is my favorite character. Everything with his wife and the shapeshifter. But then at the end of the book when Caeden had killed older Davian. That is so insane! Such a good book. I gave this book five out five stars.
I was in the mood for super sad contemporary after reading Aristotle & Dante and the author’s other books so I bought They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera:
Tumblr media
I didn’t like this book as much as More Happy Than Not. I think it’s because I didn’t really care that much about Mateo and Rufus’s relationship. I teared up a little bit when Mateo died and the ending was pretty good. However, I think the premise of two people falling in love on their final day is really cool, I just think that it wasn’t as powerful. It would be a three star but the ending bumped it up for a four.
Next I picked Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton
Tumblr media
Alright take this review with a grain of salt because I absolutely adore these types of stories. I’ve always had a soft spot for ballet school dramas. I use to love Dance Moms, Bunheads, and this one Australian show that I can find no matter how much I google it. Point being I love ballet stories and I love the dramaz. This book was full of drama. So much romance and backstabbing…or foot stabbing. I gave this book five out of five stars.
After really loving the Goldfinch by Donna Tartt I decided to pick up The Secret History:
Tumblr media
This book slightly missed the mark for me. It was still good, I gave it four out of five stars because I really enjoyed the transition from the friendship between the group of Greek students to then killing Bunny and the aftermath. However, I think after a while when the students are starting the spiral out of control, I stopped caring. Especially Charles, I did not like his transformation. It was very annoying and he was a character that I really liked. So, I’m sad that it missed the mark but it was still a good book.
Next the final book that I had to read for my YA Literature class was Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson:
Tumblr media
I’m not much of a poetry person so I that probably hindered my enjoyment of this book. It was an interesting story about a black girl growing up during the Civil Rights movement in America. It was interesting to see the different places throughout America and her family life. There were a few really great poems, most of them got the point across. I gave this book four out of five stars.
I then continued with the Tiny Pretty Things Duology with Shiny Broken Pieces by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton:
Tumblr media
So I liked this book a little less than I did the first one. This duology is really a guilty pleasure series. I just love it for the drama. I actually think this book handled it’s finale a bit better than a lot of other contemporary books do. I think the one problem I had with it was Cassie and her over the top villainy. Like she is perfectly fine with people potentially dying. I felt like Eleanor got the short end of the stick. She was hospitalized twice in this book for the shit that Gigi and Cassie did. Poor girl. And Cassie does have a good case against Bette because Bette was horrible. So her handling made me not like this book as much. But I felt like the ending really made this book work enough to give it five out of five stars.
Next I read Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami:
Tumblr media
I didn’t really like this book that much. Mostly because I didn’t understand what was going on. Maybe I’ll reread it at some point but right now I could not tell you what the point of this book was. I think I enjoy Murakami’s more realistic stories then he’s completely off the wall stories. That said, he had the beautiful writing, interesting characters, and the world ended so I gave it three out of five stars.
Because I’ve become somewhat obsessed with Japanese literature I picked up Go by Kazuki Kaneshiro:
Tumblr media
I really enjoyed this book. It reminded me a lot of current American YA books, I guess the angst-y teen really is universal. It was a very short book but it covered a lot of stuff about national prejudice between people. It was less than 200 pages but it didn’t feel rushed. It didn’t waste time and gave a really satisfying story about a romance. I highly recommend this book. I gave it five out of five stars.
Finally, I read the Blade of the Immortal Omnibus Vol. 1 by Hiroaki Samura:
Tumblr media
It took me a while to get into this book, mostly because it was hard to remember all the characters and who was who. At one point I thought Machi and Rin were the same person. It was also hard to tell what was flashbacks and what was happening in that moment. But after I got into the story and figured out who was who then I really started to enjoy it. It’s a really interesting story about revenge and I really like the dynamic between Rin and the immortal warrior. I really liked this book and I think I’ll continue on with the story. I gave this book five out of five stars.
Those are all the books I read this month and hopefully next month I can read at least a few books!
