Merlin rewatch -- S1E1: The Dragon's Call

About that market fight scene

I'm curious about some of Bradley's choices in this scene.

The first one is this. He was laughing wildly when he provoked " Don't run away ~" When Merlin responded though, his face and tone suddenly went more serious.

It could be an annoyed response to Merlin's "From You?", but Arthur didn't seem to be truly offended by Merlin's words in this episode. He always looked amused and confident. Was there a hint of genuine worry that was hidden under an arrogant mask? Could just be my headcanon though.

Then there was the iconic " How long have you been training to be a prat." of which Arthur's reaction was surprisingly soft.

Before this he had been laughing loudly, his tone had been taunting and strong. But here his face softened just a tiny bit. His voice lowered and he spoke slower too. He sounded oddly sincere and serious when he said " You can't address me like that." It's very interesting. He kept turning his head around to check on his men too. All of this really gave me the feeling that he wasn't saying that because his dignity was wounded, but because calling Arthur names really wasn't appropriate, wasn't safe even, and Merlin needed to stop being " dumb".

Anyway, really love this scene, love Arthur and Bradley James.

Look how proud Merlin was of himself after that "my lord".

I'm rereading TLT because I have horrible impulse control and i will never get over the stark contrast of the Lotus Casino scenes of both the movie and book

Because movie Percy's like:

Percy: *high on lotus flowers having the time of his life* This is amazing~

Poseidon: *godly whispera in his brain* Percy you're in trouble get out of there

Percy: Oh sh*t he's right! We gotta go

Meanwhile the absolute perfection book Percy goes:
