#the hypnagogic archive
Would Joyce from The Hypnagogic Archive story "Joyce" be an Avatar of the Spiral? (added the link to the story to make things easier)
Thanks for the link!

do you ever read something at 2am and the next morning youre like huh, that was a weird dream. but then you go on your phone and the tab is still open and youre just staring at:

im still not sure im not dreaming this tbh.
anyway, id 100% recommend reading the whole thing; its called "Where Does Wastewater Go?" and is part of The Hypnagogic Archive.
its a very cool arg that has a lot of really good horror short stories. in the lore, the archive hosts lost text files and videos from web 1. its very cool.
and even if you dont like args or horror, where does wastewater go is the odd duck, and is incredibly funny to read.

i think ive made this post before but i cant find it so im making it again. i really like house of leaves because of the advantage it takes of its medium and the fact that interacting with a physical copy of the book is very much so a requirement for properly engaging with the story. Listening to an audio book version or reading a digital copy on your phone or having the story explained to you is missing a key component of the work itself, moreso than would be the case with most other novels. its a book that demands audience participation and the aspect of getting lost or losing a train of thought and otherwise interacting with the book is as much a part of the story as the text itself. (im reminded of that other post on the way that videogames are the best medium to explore themes of choice, because they put u, the player, in the a position to actually Make Choices).
This makes the book virtually impossible to adapt accurately to any other medium. How do u replicate the experience of reading the book to film or stage, with all of the otis it puts on the reader to interact with the physical text, following footnotes that go nowhere and checking the appendex for missing context and deciding what order to read which narrator? The only way to meaningfully adapt it would be to similarly take full advantage of the new medium, to have the audience interact with the story in a way that could Only be done with a film, or a videogame, or or or. But what does that even look like? What mediums could even facilitate that kind of interaction?
anyway this is all a very longwinded way for me to express that I think itd be really cool if someone turned House of Leaves into an internet ARG.
