My TOP 10 couples of 2022 based on their chemistry.
It's almost the end of this year so it's time for a recap.
This year wasn't very good for me. I don't have strong feelings for any of the couples. I was barely able to pick 10 that I liked. Even my no. 1 this year is weaker than half of the couples from last year's top 10. I hope next year will be better.
Ava & Beatrice (Warrior Nun)
Kit & Jade (Willow)
Bess & Audrey (Snowpiercer)
Zoa & Bel (Bienvenidos a Edén/Welcome to Eden)
Carson & Greta (A League of Their Own)
Alba & Batty (Leopard Skin)
Juliette & Calliope (First Kill)
Frannie & Marguerite (The Confessions of Frannie Langton)
Alma & Sara (Las de la última fila/The Girls at the Back)
Hello. I'm just passing by to tell everyone to go watch Las de la ultima fila/The girls at the back. One of the main characters is a lesbian and I'm not spoiling the rest. The show is about 5 women in their 30s who go on a trip together because one of them has cancer. Great female led show, that knows how to balance drama and comedy.
I had already watched this but I'm gonna tell you the same thing I told a private ask: thank you SO much thinking to bring this to me! I'd much rather get something over-recommended than even RISKING missing something this good!
I can't convey how good it is, though to my mind it did remind me of El Embarcadero in just how effortlessly well developed the characters and their dynamics were, and mostly between women. The friendships were so lived in, they really felt like a group of real life friends who didn't know they were being taped, and the structure of it, the whole premise, the flashbacks, the little tasks they're doing, it was all. Just really good.
The reason I haven't giffed it yet is that I literally don't know where to start. Well, I have two scenes in mind, but each ep is just filled with like--pretty much every scene, and the callbacks and jokes. It was just really gorgeous and lovely. And fair warning to anybody who knows what I like and expects that, it's not like, a neatly packed up ending but I mean, it was good enough that I didn't mind it.
my toxic trait is that when someone walks into a room and Pangur (who is usually on my lap) starts growling at them out of the baseless hatred she has for most life on earth, I join in and say “you’re upsetting her. you’re hurting her. she’s dying.”
No, actually I will never be over Annabeth throwing her knife into the ocean hoping Percy will notice and come help only to have Percy, king among boyfriends, make the most dramatic ass entrance, knocking out attackers with a giant wave, ocean waves cascading behind him as he casually walks up onto the beach to Annabeth, hands her her knife and says “I think you dropped this.” Fucking legend.
So was anyone gonna tell me the Greek navy still has a fully functional trireme?
Her name is Olympias! She was built in 1987 and can sail up to 9 knots (17 km) per hour!
Olympias weighs 47 tonnes, but is remarkably agile, able to make a 180 degree turn within one minute. Everything but the bracing ropes was constructed of the same materials as in ancient Greece. (They used steel instead of hemp rope for cost reasons.)
Experiments with Olympias have helped us understand the capabilities of warships from ancient Greek and Roman times. Triremes like her were built for speed, maneuverability, and aggressive ramming. (Her beak alone weighs 200 kg.) It appears that many of the seamanship feats described by Thucydides were indeed possible!
Olympias is now an exhibit at Naval Tradition Park in Palaio Faliro, Athens, Greece. She's usually dry docked these days, but I've found a couple videos of her at sea!
Edit: Initially got her top speed wrong, sorry. It is now corrected!
