My favorite non-danmei web novels
Since some of you were interested, I decided to make this list. It’s in an alphabetical order since to figure out which I like more than the other is too hard. I have either finished all of these or enough to have an opinion.
1000 Miles of Bright Moonlight - one of my ultimate favorites, this would make such an epic drama! A smart as hell heroine, a hero who is a monk and a warrior (but also terminally?) ill and such a vivid world and amazing secondary characters (heroine’s brother is possibly my favorite supporting character of all time) and so much angst and happy ending. This has an amazing romance but it’s not romance-centric if it makes sense - ML doesn’t appear for a while. But once he does, it’s worth it!
Apocalypse Arrival - Gong Xinwen’s novels are made just for me. Her heroines are always powerful as fuck and rescue abused MLs. In this novel, our heroine who lives in the post-apocalyptic world, wakes up right before that apocalypse happens. She forms a survival crew and also rescues ML who has miraculous blood and has been drained of it and is now hunted after the rescue for it. SO GOOD!!!
The Blue Whisper - the drama was so-so, but the novel is a bona fide angst masterpiece, which really delves into what it feels like to be imprisoned or to love.
Black Moonlight Holds the BE Script - so fucked up, so good, with monster hero who learns to love and be human and heroine who learns to love and be human (but from the other side, her tower of perfection.) Much better than the drama.
Chang’an’s Greatest Beauty - a starkly realistic look at what happens to a beautiful period woman with no options. She becomes an outside mistress of a powerful aristocrat who she loathes. The delight is when ML, who barely thinks of others as human, falls in love with her and realizes she does not care about him and descends into regret and despair.
Chang Feng Du - reading it right now. Amazing ML and FL who grow together, clever plot, arranged marriage to love etc etc. Oh, and one point he feeds her his blood to keep her alive, what’s not to love?
Dandere General and His Lord - hi there, Gong Xinwen! God, I love this one. Heroine transmigrates from modern world into a brutal slaveholding world at war (think something like Warring States era.) Our heroine transmigrates into the body of a noblewoman who just hung herself. When she comes to, she discovers that woman’s twin brother was the ruler of a city poisoned by a rival claimant and the besieging army of said claimant is about to take the city and original occupant of the body and the rest of the family chose suicide as a way to avoid dishonor. Our heroine refuses, schemes with advisors to pass as the brother and rally the troops. Once the invaders are defeated, she keeps on the masquerade and rides off to one of the never-ending wars “she” is summoned to. Our hero couldn’t be farther from this. A slave and a son of a slave, he’s escaped a horrific, starving childhood during which he narrowly avoided being murdered or raped, and ended up in the army. When the story opens, he distinguished himself in battle and as a reward, he and a few of his fellow slave warriors are invited to a banquet, where they are given some alcohol and to be playthings of any nobles who want them. One of them does not survive this but ML is lucky - heroine feels terrible and so “claims” him for herself. Instead she just tends to his wounds and sends him back. She does not fancy him or anything, she is just a human being with a conscience. And the story goes from there.
Doomed to Be Cannon Fodder - I hesitated to put this one on the list because by the end I was not keen on how misogynistic novel got to original female lead but it was one of my earliest novels and I loved it for 90% and it’s fucking hilarious at times. Heroine transmigrates as bit villainess into a novel, all she wants is not to die, but her new attitude of “pls stay away” catches the attention of her terrifying general husband. Honestly, imo still worth it.
Dreamer in the Spring Boudoir - my n1 novel on this list, smart and fierce and don’t really read this for romance because it does not start until really late, but ice cold heroine x ice cold hero both of equal brains and ruthlessness is everything. I went from loathing the ML to finding him fascinating to adoring him (and yet he softened around the edges only for FL, he never became “nice”) and loved FL throughout; secondaries are epic. If you read only one non-danmei web novel, make it this one.
The Emperor’s Beloved Ugly Girl - my n2 novel on this list. Our heroine is the unlucky laundry maid A’Chou. She is a di daughter of an upperclass family but her family got destroyed in one of the political upheavals of the time and A’Chou, only a small child at the time, was the only survivor and was made an enslaved laundry maid. Due to various events, at the start of the novel she is a laundry maid in a minister’s household and the minister’s beloved daughter is having a fit because she’s supposed to marry the former Crown Prince which may have been great a few years back but Crown Prince had since been deposed, tortured, imprisoned and now is living in the middle of nowhere under conditions that are too meager to be called house arrest. And he’s seriously crippled too. Understandably, the young lady doesn’t want to marry him! She’d rather kill herself and so she does. And so, a desperate plan is hatched - why don’t we pretend the laundry maid is the di daughter of the minister’s household and send her off? And so A’Chu is sent as the bride. She arrives to discover a broke, seriously injured man on the verge of death...and we go from there. This is so gorgeous and tender and slow in just the right way and like AAAAAA! Secondary OTPs (one of which is MM) are also epic.
Futu Tower - the drama was terrible but the novel is such a lovely, dark exploration of coming back to life, for the ML from his dark revenge-strewn path and for heroine from not being allowed wishes of her own. She is a tribute bride, he’s a (fake) eunuch, they are both servants who use themselves to achieve goals and find peace and happiness together.
Heroine Saves a Gentleman - Gong Xinwen novel so we have a tough martial artist lady saving a very upper class scholar and it goes from there.
Husband Be a Gentleman - schemer meet schemer. He’s an idle prince she’s perfect daughter, in reality both are wolves out for blood. Mmmm.
I’ll Be the Male Lead’s Sister in Law - one of my all time favorite novels. Heroine is made to marry a disabled nephew of the emperor. He used to be a victorious god of war but went mad and now is basically locked away and kept as a beast. GOD I LOVE THIS NOVEL SO MUCHHHHH! So much hurt/comfort and awesome OTP and after he eventually recovers, all he wants to do is to fight and murder things and dote on wifey. MMM. He’s honestly one of my fave MLs.
I Married a Disabled Tyrant After Transmigrating - if you have a Florence Nightingale complex, this is for you. Heroine wakes up as tribute bride to an almost dead dragon lord and slowly nurses him back to life as his rivals try to murder him. They are both utter adorable babies!
Joy of Life - there is NO romance in this one (ML is polygamous) but this is such a smart, snarky delight.
Let the Villain Go - another Gong Xinwen novel, this and Apocalypse Arrivals are AUs of each other. Heroine is surviving in the apocalypse, ML is the “bugbear” of the world but in reality just reacting to all abuse and torture and after she accidentally saves him, devotes himself. Fun fun fun!
Love In Another Life: My Gentle Tyrant - so so fucked up in the best way! ML cannot live with OR without heroine. It opens on them banging in jail night before her execution (ordered by him) with corpses of men he killed for trying to defile her cooling nearby. If you want healthy relationships with respectful boundaries, gentle and considerate male leads who are modern men in period clothes, OP heroines who have everyone help them and are OP to the max, fluff and wholesomeness, that is about the worst book for you.If you want complexity, dysfunction, darkness, pain and an absolutely lyrical even if fucked up story, come right IN!!!!I am so fucking in love with the melancholy heroine, with ruthless psycho hero and the endless regret and devotion and paaaaain!
Nightfall (Ever Night) - so long but also so smart and unusual and bloody and tho it’s not primarily a romance, you will never see another ML who loves his FL as much as Ning Que does his Sang Sang.
Princess Agents - dark as fuck, with the best slow burn and heroine who kicks metric tons of ass.
The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage - this is probably the one “typical” novel on this list, heroine is reborn as her youngest self and gets revenge on those who wronged her last time around. It is really really well-written and heroine is competent, hero is doting and powerful etc. It’s not a trope I tend to love but I do when it’s done THIS well.
Rebirth of the Tyrant’s Pet: Regent Prince is Too Fierce: Borgias cnovel style! Our heroine was empress in last life and put her husband on the throne tho he did not love her. However, he had her executed and had his half-brother carry out the orders and heroine died horrifically. She opens her eyes and she’s a little girl again. The OTP this time around is heroine and half-brother executioner. Why do I love it? Heroine is smart and tough but also this is a rare rebirth novel where heroine does NOT decide to seek revenge for past life wrongs because they haven’t happened yet! In fact, she sees ML abused and stands up for him because he’s a kid and no kid should be mistreated and this go around he hasn’t done anything wrong. She also gets and likes her former life husband. Anyway, this is fakecest galore because she’s supposed to be their half-sister and while she knows (from past life) she is not, they do not and fall for her anyway. ML is especially gonzo, at one point carving chunks of his flesh to save her. He’s feral and unhinged and she’s the one person he worships because she protected him and like - it’s all awesome. (I love secondary ML too.)
Reborn to Love Lord Qiansui - yes, this is a eunuch novel! If you like gender tropes reversals, this one is for you. Heroine is a tough martial artist, hero is a smart as hell and powerful eunuch. A real eunuch. Heroine finds out she owes him her life and decides to protect him. This is a total delight and an awesome love story between two really scarred people. And yes, there is sex - heroine literally reads manuals on pegging :P
Return of the Swallow - so freaking long! But really good. Heroine is neither transmigrator nor reincarnator, just a smart period woman. She is a lost family daughter taken back in. Her father is a minister in a dying empire (father-daughter relationship is one of the best things in this novel), her OTP is enemy general, and the smartness and the awesomeness of this all knows no bounds.
Revenge of the Cannon Fodder Chambermaid - I remember starting this and loving the realistic feel and the heroine and wanting to stab the hero and @mercipourleslivres telling me to be patient. She was right, by the end I was on board with both the hero (who was abused and is rather autistic-coded) and the OTP. Anyway, heroine is a servant who was a concubine in the last life and got killed as part of a rich family’s harem intrigues. In this life, she just wants to keep her head down but her life gets derailed anyway. She gets sold away and eventually made a servant in the household of an exiled prince who takes a fancy to her and she endures it because what choice does she have? All she wanted was to serve out her term and become a small time merchant. This is quite realistic about lack of options for women, especially lower class women or upper class male attitudes (ML is never vicious or mean to FL but it does not initially occur to him to wonder if she fancies him or enjoys being his concubine or w/e.) It is a DELIGHTFUL slow burn tho as they grow to love each other and grow together and become one of the most wholesome cnovel couples out there.
To Be a Virtuous Wife - some people prefer 8 treasures trousseau but I never warmed up to that one. This one is so good, with smart people (who actually enjoy sex, a ratity) and a perfect mix of plot and romance.
Transmigrator Meets Reincarnator - my very first web novel. A lot lighter than a lot of the ones on this list but a total delight. Heroine transmigrates into a novel as the heroine; she has no interest in drama or chasing true love, she just wants to live a nice life with her nice husband. Too bad for her, her husband has reincarnated into his younger self and remembers how she betrayed him, so is not interested. This one is funny and light and romance doesn’t start till late on but a total delight!
The Yandere Came During the Night - a bit of fluff that’s oddly delightful. Heroine is reborn as a (fake) sister of ML, she hurts her legs saving him and the “siblings” form a bond that ends up in fakecest delight. They are both smart and efficient and he becomes a sexy marquis etc.

Rewatching Crystalized after a long time- here are my thoughts.
The first third isn’t bad (season 1), honestly it’s still funny
Fugidove you weirdo (affectionate)
I still hate the mayor/the new ninja/ronin
Pythor you bitch (derogatory)
Nya my beloved, how they wasted your potential
Skylor my beloved, how they wasted your potential
Pixal my beloved, how they wasted your potential
Mechanic you motherfucker
HARUMI MY BELOVED CHILD YOUVE RETURNED TO ME
I hate how they changed the overlords voice, rebooted was the best version
I think the overlord intercepted harumi’s soul while it was on its way to the departed realm. Overlord can never truly die, so he’s stuck in an ethereal void. That’s why no one else was around
Harumi, my beloved scrimbly, your body was literally crushed and probably impaled by rebar and concrete
Oni temple still ugly as shit
“Fall of the monastery” is homophobic because my favorite girls got the shit kicked out of them and I’m gay so it’s homophobic
Also Pythor is misogynistic like bro Nya saved your ass from wohira
Also mechanic is misogynistic
Fantastic fights tho
MINI PIXES
I love the minipix 7 saved her mama first 🥹
We did not need the fakeout death for Nya
I love the samurai x mech and Nya’s Sam x outfit
I think they took off the overeffect on pixals voice in Darkness within - that just gave Crystalized extra bonus points in my book
Lloyd dangling sideways is so stupid but funny
Ok but like that wasn’t the last time you fought, technically that was the SECOND to last time shitlord, Zane killed you last time lmao
The coming 👀 of the king
But they didn’t lose??? They killed you???
Golden master was better tbh
Ah, the ugliest fortress in the entire series
Uglyass motherfucker
Harumi my scrimbly
Harumi really be like I hate you but maybe we could be friends but also no I despise you but maybe???
ACAB
Harumis such a brat- I love her so much
GARMADON RETURNS
Garmadon is the funniest motherfucker
The fact that they didn’t get to fully acknowledge Harumi and Garmadon is a missed opportunity
Christofern is an innocent victim
Mechanic motherfucker I want you to die
I forgot about Zane’s head trauma reverting him to the ice emperor. Such a missed opportunity
MISAKO MY BELOVED!!!!!
T*mmy fuck off
Pixal being a badass like usual. Queen!!!!
They put her effect back over her voice
JESUS CHRIST ZANE
ronin redeeming himself 🫡
Pythor you annoying bitch
SKYLOR YOU ARE A QUEEN I’d let you punch me any day
When skylor put her hand on Cole’s head, his scar was glowing
Skylor god I love you
Kai you got trauma we need to discuss
RACER 7 aka BLAZY H. SPEED!!!!!
I would burn everything for Pixal
Jennifer you say the word and I would kill for you
THE PIXANE SPIN
“You brought me back.”
Tumblr media
Pixal has the coolest mechs because she deserves it
Garmadon sprint past, screeching, with a barrel is my favorite
“Uh oh? What does uh oh mean?” A callback to season 13 💙
“Pet plant” Lloyd that’s your brother have some respect
I’m gonna be honest- I forgot the overlord was the literal threat this season 😭😭😭
Why do the dragonites have tits????
I literally still can’t believe they have to “jump up kick back whip around and spin”
And the reveal was when the paper was “fold” ed you motherfuckers
Why did the coolest form of the overlord come TWO EPISODES AT THE END
Coles crew showed up
VANIA MY BELOVED SCRIMBLY
MINIPIX
MAYA EDNA BENTHO LOU (💔)
SALLY YOU QUEER QUEEN
Dragon form is literally so dope tho
I’m still not a fan of the “plot twist” with the overlord x devourer
Anyways KICK HIS ASS HARUMI GO BABY GIRL GO
Mechanic shut the fuck up honestly
OKINO
Cole mocking Vangelis is so fucking funny
It hurts to see Lou honesty knowing he’ll never speak again
ADAM
VANIA MY BELOVED
Is it me or is Kai really handsome in his dragon form
Cole and Vania’s hug 🥹
PIXANE SPIN 2.0
Oni Lloyd my beloved
ROTSM 2: Electric Boogaloo
I like to think that it is the ninjas spirits that protected Lloyd and defeated the overlord, not a golden power
Inner Steel is a good song shut up
Overall honestly not a bad season, has some hiccups and missed opportunities but not as bad as I think it’s judged

New Releases
July is shaping up to be a great month for exciting YA reads! What's on your TBR list this month? Here are the new releases coming out tomorrow, 7/11!
I'd Rather Burn Than Bloom by Shannon C.F. Rogers
Packed with voice, this is a powerful coming-of-age YA novel about a Filipina-American teen who tries to figure out who she really is in the wake of her mother's death.
Some girls call their mother their best friend. Marisol? She could never relate. She and her mom were forever locked in an argument with no beginning and no end.
But when her mother dies suddenly, Marisol is left with no one to fight against, haunted by all the things that she both said and didn’t say. And when Marisol sleeps with her best friend's boyfriend—and then punches said best friend in the face—she's left alone, with nothing but a burning anger. And Marisol is determined to stay angry. After all, there’s a lot to be angry about. But as a new friendship begins to develop, Marisol reluctantly starts to open up to her, and to the possibility there’s something else on the other side of that anger—something more to who she is, and who she could be.
A Song of Salvation by Alechia Dow
From the author of The Sound of Stars and The Kindred comes a YA space opera about a reincarnated god and a grumpy pilot on a mission to save a beloved space DJ and stop an intergalactic war.
Zaira Citlali is supposed to die. After all, she’s the god Indigo reborn. Indigo, whose song created the universe and unified people across galaxies to banish Ozvios, the god of destruction. Although Zaira has never been able to harness Indigo’s powers, the Ilori Emperor wants to sacrifice her in Ozvios’s honor. Unless she escapes and finds Wesley, the boy prophesized to help her defeat Ozvios and the Ilori, once and for all.
Wesley Daniels didn’t ask for this. He just wants to work as a smuggler so he can save enough money to explore the stars. Once he completes his biggest job yet—bringing wanted celebrity Rubin Rima to a strange planet called Earth—he’ll be set for life. But when his path crosses with Zaira, he soon finds himself in the middle of an intergalactic war with more responsibility than he bargained for. Together, Zaira, Wesley, and Rubin must find their way to Earth and unlock Zaira’s powers if they’re going to have any hope of saving the universe from total destruction.
All the Yellow Suns by Malavika Kannan
A coming-of-age story about a queer Indian American girl exploring activism and identity through art, perfect for fans of Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe.
Sixteen-year-old Maya Krishnan is fiercely protective of her friends, immigrant community, and single mother, but she knows better than to rock the boat in her conservative Florida suburb. Her classmate Juneau Zale is the polar opposite: she’s a wealthy white heartbreaker who won’t think twice before capsizing that boat.
When Juneau invites Maya to join the Pugilists—a secret society of artists, vandals, and mischief-makers who fight for justice at their school—Maya descends into the world of change-making and resistance. Soon, she and Juneau forge a friendship that inspires Maya to confront the challenges in her own life. But as their relationship grows romantic, painful, and twisted, Maya begins to suspect that there’s a whole different person beneath Juneau’s painted-on facade. Now Maya must learn to speak her truth in this mysterious, mixed-up world—even if it results in heartbreak.
My Week with Him by Joya Goffney
From Joya Goffney of  Excuse Me While I Ugly Cry, comes a stirring YA coming-of-age, best friends-to-lovers romance about a girl named Nikki who plans to run away from small-town Texas, but ultimately finds that her oldest friend, Mal, just might be the one who’s been there for her all along. Filled with heart and humor, this novel captures complex family drama, friendship, and love. For fans of  I Wanna Be Where You Are  by Kristina Forest and  Counting Down with You  by Tashie Bhuiyan.
Nikki can’t wait to leave Texas and follow her dreams of a music career . . . After a painful betrayal by her sister and a heated argument with their mother, Nikki is kicked out and finds herself homeless. She decides to go to California to pursue her singing career. When her best friend, Malachai, discovers her plan to flee Texas, he begs her to spend the remainder of spring break with him. He believes that over the course of a week, he can convince her to stay in Texas, or to at least graduate high school.
But their plans are interrupted when Nikki’s little sister Vae goes missing. Nikki is forced to work alongside her difficult mother as they set off in search of Vae, with Malachai’s support. Will Nikki find a reason to stay in Texas, or will this spring break be the last time she sees them? Through her emotional journey, Nikki ultimately finds the love she’s always been missing and discovers the power of her own voice.

Names
I want to state right here that I love Japanese and can read/speak it more or less (I can't write it, because my handwriting is ugly and I lack practice), but ever since I came back with Yu-Gi-Oh ARC-V and I fell in love again of the characters and Connectshipping I realized that except for Yūya, Yuzu, Ruri and Ray who have a family, the rest of the dimensional counterparts do not have a last name. While in the Arc-V manga the Yu-boys share the last name Sakaki, in the anime they don't, so I took the liberty of giving them all last names. These last names were chosen because they were somehow related to them.
I'll do the Yu-boys part first, putting the only boy who has a last name in the anime canon:
Yūya Sakaki [榊 遊矢]
Yūya, being the protagonist, his name begins with the usual Yū (遊) that he shares with all his predecessors and successors, which means Play. The Ya (矢) that ends up composing his name means Arrow.
The surname Sakaki (榊) refers to the Cleyera japonica, an evergreen tree that is relevant in Shinto ceremonies, where it acts as a conduit for the kami (gods).
Now let's move on to the guys who don't have a last name in the anime canon:
Yūto [ユート]
I gave my beloved Yūto, my favorite and a dark boy with a taste for ghost knights, the last name Yatōgami (夜刀神) which is composed of Night (夜, Ya), Sword/Katana (刀, Tō) and God (神, Kami/Gami).
His name in the anime is written in katakana and therefore has no meaning, so I took the one from the manga that is in kanji. Yūto is composed with the Yū of Play (遊) and the To refers to the constellation Ursa Major (斗).
— Yūto Yatōgami (夜刀神 遊斗, Yatōgami Yūto).
Yūgo [ユーゴ]
Yūgo, precious child of sun and sky, also his name in the anime is written in katakana and without meaning, but taking the manga it is written with the Yū of Play (遊) and the Go of "Myself" (吾).
His last name, Hayashi, is written with Fast (速, Haya) and Ruler (司, Shi). Fits my boy with bike well.
— Yūgo Hayashi (速司 遊吾, Hayashi Yūgo).
Yūri [ユーリ]
Ah, Yūri, precious sadist of my soul, this baby, just like his counterparts, his name is written in katakana and has no meaning, so I once again took the name from the manga and gave it to this tradition-following beauty and begins with Yū of Play (遊) and ends with Ri of Town/Village (里).
The surname, Niwa, is a homophone that in Japanese means Garden, but is written with the kanji for Vermilion (丹, Ni) and Ring/Circle (輪, Wa).
— Yuri Niwa (丹輪 遊里, Niwa Yuri).
Zarc [ズァーク]
I personally like to take the name Zarc as a nickname or alias that this guy created for himself or was given to him by others when he got into dueling, and to my liking, I gave this guy a Japanese name.
Yūhaku is made up of Play (遊, Yū) and a kanji spelling Koma-Inu, the lion-dogs that guard Shinto shrines (狛, Haku). This name came up while I was looking for words that sounded similar to the Japanese pronunciation of Zarc "Zāku", and I really liked Haku, so I added the characteristic Yū and that's how my headcanon of what is the Supreme Dragon King's real name came up.
Speaking of dragon kings, the last name I came up with for Zarc was Kōryū, which is spelled with Emperor (皇, Kō) and Dragon (竜, Ryū). This one came up while he was looking for words to replace the long (and chūnibyō) Haōryū and since I didn't want Ōryū because it was redundant, I started looking at words related to ruling. Originally the name was written with the kanji for Five in front, but it got long and ugly, so I removed it and I loved how it turned out.
Also, in case I needed his name to be non-Japanese, I ended up using someone else's headcanon and stuck with "Zachary Archer", which can be made into "Z-Arc".
— Yūhaku Kōryū (皇竜 遊狛, Kōryū Yūhaku).
— Zachary Archer.
If I do a fanfic, it's 90% likely that I'll use these names, because I'm picky and I don't like that they don't have last names. I'll do the girls' one another time, since I really liked the last name I gave Rin, so I want to show it off. Anyway, I already did the long part, so I end here.

A Forbidden Happiness | Chapter 17
Fortune does not come twice. Misfortune does not come alone.*
As Jiayi mixed the medical paste for Xiang gui ren's wound, the phrase wouldn't leave her head. His Majesty doted on Xiang gui ren. How could Jiayi have known that her mistress' reward of silks and furs for the upcoming seasons was that first fortune?
Instead, misfortune had sunk its claws into Xiang gui ren's household and refused to let go. First, The Empress Dowager gave Jiang gui ren a promotion. Her mistress kept up a happy face anyways, claiming it was too soon for her to think of something like that. Then, Fifth Princess attacked.
Fifth Princess had left a massive gash on Xiang gui ren's face, starting over her left eye and running down her cheek. Hwang taiyi did his best to sew up the wound and cautioned them about infection. If luck wasn't on their side, Xiang gui ren could go blind.
If that were the end of it, Jiayi would've been grateful. Instead, out came the news about First Princess' "affairs." The Emperor and Empress Dowager were furious, sending an all-out search in every eunuch's quarters in the Forbidden City. His Majesty's guards left no stone unturned, and when they found First Princess' things in Su gonggong's quarters, they arrested him immediately. There was no chance he was coming out alive.
Being free of Su gonggong for good was Jiayi's goal. That was the whole point of stealing such scandalous things from First Princess' rooms and planting them in the eunuch's rooms. Jiayi didn't think so much trouble would come from it. Now there were rumors about First Princess being a whore all over the capital. Despite being The Emperor's beloved firstborn, these rumors jeopardized her chances of finding a suitable husband. The Emperor banned her from The Empress Dowager's birthday banquet because the rumors would spoil the party. The Empress Dowager promised to have a special dinner with First Princess to make up for it, but the message was clear.
First Princess, for the time being, was damaged goods.
It made Jiayi stomach turn. First Princess was such a beautiful girl, inside and out and had never said an unkind word to her. Now, Jiayi was responsible for ruining her.
"Jiejie?"
Jiayi jumped at the sound of Molan's voice.
"I think the paste is finished now," said Molan.
"Oh," Jiayi looked down at the bowl in her hands, "You're right. Bring the hot water so we can redress mistress' wound," said Jiayi.
Pie'er and Ping'er, who couldn't stand to be from Xiang gui ren's bedside, brought a small table and laid out all the tools.
Xiang gui ren was covered in a thin sheet, dozing in bed.
"Mistress," said Ping'er, "Jiejie's here to dress your wound,"
Jiayi washed and dried her hands before peeling back the rusty colored gauze that covered Xiang gui ren's face. The sight of the thick black stitches crisscrossing along her mistress' purpled and pummeled skin made Jiayi's skin prickle. She swallowed back the tears that welled up in her eyes.
Jiayi wiped the area around the stitches as softly as possible with a shaking hand before picking up the paste. The first brush against Xiang gui ren's skin made her flinch with pain. Jiayi sat up and burst into tears.
Before she knew it, Molan had joined in. Ping'er and Pie'er weren't far behind.
Xiang gui ren smiled softly, "You four have been crying day and night, night and day. If it takes as long as Hwang taiyi said it would for me to recover, you'll end up like a bunch of dried dates,"
Jiayi hiccuped through her tears and spread the medicine before wrapping the stitches with a fresh bandage.
"Aiyo," said Xiang gui ren, "Am I so ugly?"
When the sounds of the crying went up in pitch, Xiang gui ren laughed, "It was just a joke! Stop crying. You're making my head hurt,"
Xiang gui ren let the four of them cry until there was nothing left but sniffles.
"How's Fifth Princess?" Xiang gui ren asked then, "Is she alright?"
"Mistress, how can you ask after that cruel girl after what she did to you?" Asked Molan.
Xiang gui ren's good eye snapped open, "Watch your mouth. Fifth Princess is still Fifth Princess,"
Molan wiped the tears off her face and nodded.
"What are they saying about Fifth Princess? What's happened?" Xiang gui ren asked.
"Xu niang was flogged 40 times and expelled from the palace along with all Fifth Princess' servants," replied Jiayi.
"I heard Fifth Princess has been crying and screaming all day locked up in her rooms," said Ping'er.
"Jiang pin is still Jiang pin, even though she raised such a child," said Molan, "His Majesty favors you more than her, but still, she wasn't punished,"
"His Majesty's love will never come before his duties to The Empress Dowager. There's no point in being upset," replied Xiang gui ren, "And Fifth Princess is just a child. It was a mistake,"
She then pressed a hand to her head and gasped in pain.
Molan leaped up, "I'll brew your pain medicine right now, mistress,"
Xiang gui ren settled herself in bed again, "I bet the promotion ceremony was beautiful,"
Jiayi dabbed the sweat off Xiang gui ren's forehead, "Your time will come soon, mistress,"
"How about First Princess? Is she okay?"
The question made guilt bubble up in Jiayi's chest all over again.
"She won't leave her rooms," said Ping'er, "Shen huang gui fei has to threaten to break the doors down to see her,"
"Poor things," murmured Xiang gui ren.
"Shen huang gui fei asked that His Majesty use severe torture on that Su gonggong before getting rid of him," said Ping'er.
"It's only right," said Molan, returning with pain-relieving broth, "He did such an atrocious thing,"
They all looked up at the commotion in the front hall. Bolin's frantic voice carried into the bedroom.
"Your Highness, our mistress is resting; you can't enter. Your Highness–"
The newly promoted Jiang pin strutted into Xiang gui ren's bedroom, her Imperial Concubine chaofu silks glittering in the afternoon sun.
–––
When Jiang pin was eight months pregnant with Huaguang, she became ill. The illness lasted until her labor began. In between her screams, Jiang pin begged and begged the Gods to save her only chance for glory and for the child to be born safe.
Now, Jiang pin wished that the Gods ignored her cries. That child was an utter waste of time, a bad omen even! Jiang pin could blame the momos for their shoddy work until she was blue in the face, but Huaguang was her daughter. Huaguang's foolish act could never just be her own.
"And Her Highness The Empress said I'll be moving to Chuxiugong† before they set off for the Mulan autumn hunt," said An pin, "She says that I can count on an honorary name if I give birth. Prince or princess,"
An pin. What a joke.
It was one thing for someone like Lian fei to rise through the ranks on the backs of her family but someone like An pin becoming an Imperial Concubine? She was more than lowly, and had no favor.  All she had was the good luck to be the first person who alerted His Majesty of the rumors about First Princess.
An pin didn't even wear her chaofu well. The strap under her chaoguan dug into the fat of her chin, and her embroidered jacket looked heavy and ill-fitting. She was obviously a last-minute addition to the promotions.
"How nice for you," groused Jiang pin, "You get to be the mistress of your palace, but I'm still stuck with that thing in mine,"
"I wish I could help you more, jiejie. I know your life will be even harder now that Xiang gui ren can whine about what an unruly child Fifth Princess is," replied An pin.
"An unruly child is better than no child at all," said Jiang pin, snatching her arm away from An pin, "Huaguang only needs to behave herself, and His Majesty will love her again,"
An pin nodded, "But jiejie, will you let her run all over you in the meantime? You're an Imperial Concubine now, a mistress. If you don't teach her properly, people will continue to think of her as Xianfugong's true the mistress.
For once, An pin said something sensible. Jiang pin was the mistress of Xianfugong, and it was her right to educate all those who lived in her palace. She sent An pin on her way andstepped through the gates of Xianfugong, determined to teach Xiang gui ren a lesson.
Xiang gui ren's fat eunuch tried to stop her, saying some nonsense about the bitch needing rest. Hah! A tap on the head from a child, and Xiang gui ren was back in her natural habitat, on her back in a bed. It incensed Jiang pin more when Xiang gui ren didn't attempt to greet her properly but continued to play cripple in her sick bed.
"Kneel," said Jiang pin.
"Your Highness, our mistress is still injured. Please forgive her," a stupid-looking maid said when Xiang gui ren didn't move.
"Her head's cracked, not her legs," said Susu, "Jiang pin is an Imperial Concubine and the master of this palace. How dare a Noble Lady be so disrespectful? Kneel, now! "
Jiang pin didn't bother hiding her glee as Xiang gui ren struggled to her feet. The fantastic beauty that seduced The Emperor was gone. Xiang gui ren would recover, but there would still be a disgusting scar. If Jiang pin was lucky, the weeping gash on Xiang gui ren's face would never heal, and an infection would eat her alive. Jiang pin wouldn't mind helping her with that. She rolled her eyes as Xiang gui ren's maids helped her to her feet.
"She a grown woman. She can stand and kneel alone," said Jiang pin.
When Xiang gui ren was on the floor where she belonged, Jiang pin took a seat.
"You can all withdraw," she said.
"Are you all deaf?" Said Jiang pin when Xiang gui ren's maids continued to stand around, "I told you to get out! Drag them out!"
Xiang gui ren's maids kicked and screamed as they were hauled away.
"Congratulations, Your Highness," said Xiang gui ren after the doors slammed shut.
"Keep your congratulations. It's no better than the dirt beneath my feet," said Jiang pin, "I won't ask you to sit. I know how much you like being on your knees,"
Xiang gui ren nodded.
Jiang pin rolled her eyes, "Don't bother being cute with me. I already know what a bitch like you is capable of. Her Highness and His Majesty may be fooled, but I know your true face,"
Xiang gui ren nodded again.
"Now that I'm the mistress of Xianfugong, it's only right that I teach you how to be decent. You're my property now," said Jiang pin.
Xiang gui ren nodded for a third time. Jiang pin couldn't stand the sight of the woman's stupid face. Jiang pin smiled, grabbed hold of the vixen's ear and twisted as hard as possible.
On the uninjured side, of course–Jiang pin wasn't a monster.
"First lesson! When I give an order, you should reply 'Yes, Your Highness' or 'No, Your Highness.' Do you understand?"
Xiang gui ren nodded, tears slipping down her face. Again, she said nothing. This woman really was a hardheaded bitch! Jiang pin pinched hard enough to bend Xiang gui ren's neck.
"Do you understand?!"
"Yes, Your Highness!"
Jiang pin let Xiang gui ren drop to the floor.
"Sit up properly and stop those crocodile tears," said Jiang pin.
Xiang gui ren rose to her knees, her face pointed to the ground. Jiang pin pressed a hand to Xiang gui ren's bandaged cheek and raised her head.
"Meimei, I hope you realize that your life is in my hands now,"
A razor-sharp smile crept onto Xiang gui ren's face as she seized Jiang pin's hand. Jiang pin jerked her hand back, but Xiang gui ren held fast. The grip transferred to her fingers, where Jiang pin's brand new nail guards pressed into the meat of Xiang gui ren's face.
"This lowly one does understand," Xiang gui ren whispered, "But jiejie, won't it be hard to hold me with these claws?"
Jiang pin's mouth filled with ash, "What are you–"
––––
Be quick, Bolin, be quick!
Jiayi sent the eunuch running when Jiang pin's servants tossed them outside. The Empress was too busy preparing for The Empress Dowager's birthday to be of any help. State affairs kept The Emperor so busy that Bolin wouldn't get one step through the gates of Yanxindian before being turned away. De gui fei was their only hope. With all the bad luck, she spent her days at Dafuge or Kunninggong††, praying fiercely. Jiayi hoped she chose Kunninggong today.
"Yao gonggong," Jiayi said, "Please let us back in. My mistress isn't well,"
"It's not as bad as you're thinking," said Yao gonggong, "Jiang pin's promotion is fresh. She won't do anything harsh to Xiang gui ren,"
"But–"
Yao gonggong sighed, "If you really want to make things easier for Xiang gui ren, keep quiet,"
Jiayi pled with all the elderly eunuchs and momos, but they rejected her repeatedly. Jiang pin was the mistress of this palace. They wouldn't dare disobey.
Molan tugged to where Ping'er and Pie'er stood, "Kunninggong is so close. Why isn't Bolin back yet?"
"Don't panic," said Jiayi. She didn't know if she was comforting Molan or herself, "Yao gonggong is right. Jiang pin wouldn't be stupid enough to start trouble the day of her promotion,"
A guttural scream echoed through the courtyard.
"What was that?" Said Molan.
"It's Xiang gui ren," whispered Jiayi before breaking into a run.
Jiang pin's servants blocked the door, Susu front and center.
"Let us in!" Said Jiayi.
"Her Highness didn't call for anyone," said Susu as she shoved Jiayi, "Stay out here,"
There was more screaming and the sound of a struggle.
Jiayi shoved Susu back, sending her to the ground, and rushed to the doors.
"You dare!" cried Susu, "Xiao Fu, Xiao Ye, hold that bitch down so I can slap her,"
Jiayi was strong but not strong enough to fight off two fully grown men, even if they were eunuchs. They forced Jiayi to her knees.
"His Majesty arrives! De gui fei arrives!"
Susu's raised hand stilled at the sound of the arrivals.
Jiayi broke out of the eunuch's hold and burst through the doors. Jiang pin was frantically rubbing her hands with a blood-stained cloth.
"What did you do?" Jiayi asked.
"How–how dare you speak to me like that," Jiang pin said, crumpling the cloth in her hand.
Jiayi darted into the bedroom and fell to her feet. Xiang gui ren was sprawled on the floor, her face and clothes drenched in blood.
"Mistress," Jiayi whispered, voice caught in her throat.
She crawled over and lifted Xiang gui ren's head into her lap. Two fresh gashes were on the side of her face, and the stitches the Imperial physicians had so carefully put in were torn out. There was so much blood.
"Mistress, say something," Jiayi begged as Xiang gui ren's head lay limp.
Xiang gui ren lifted a trembling hand and tried to touch her face.
"Don't, you'll hurt yourself," said Jiayi, grasping her mistress' hand.
Xiang gui ren was badly hurt, but Jiayi couldn't leave her alone. Where was Molan and Ping'er? Where was Bolin? She couldn't take care of this alone!
Jiang pin's awful voice wrenched Jiayi out of her head.
"This concubine wishes His Majesty peace. This concubine wishes Her Highness De gui fei peace,"
"You Highness," Jiayi cried when De gui fei came over, "We need to do something,"
"Call for Hwang taiyi," ordered De gui fei.
"I can't," said Jiayi, "What if–"
A body ran past, and Jaiyi realized the room was packed with servants. How had she not noticed them all?
"Just put her on the bed," said Degui fei.
When De gui fei's servants lifted Xiang gui ren out of Jiayi's arms, she almost snatched her mistress back. She crawled over to Xiang gui ren's bedside.
"She's still bleeding," Jiayi whispered, "Where's Hwang taiyi?"
De gui fei pulled Jaiyi to her feet, "He's coming. Don't worry,"
"Your Majesty, you're hurting me!"
Jiayi wiped her eyes and watched The Emperor yank Jiang pin to her feet. He held her bloodied hand in front of his face.
"You devious woman," The Emperor spat.
"Your Majesty, please dissipate your anger. My mistress had nothing to do with this," said Susu, "It's a misunderstanding,"
"You call this dirty hand a misunderstanding?" He asked.
The Emperor flung Jiang pin's hand away.
Jiang pin dropped to her knees, "Your Majesty, I–I didn't mean to–"
"Zhang Wei, take my decree. Jiang pin is under house arrest until I say so otherwise. If she takes one step outside, demote her to a first-class attendant,"
"Yes, Your Majesty," said Zhang Wei.
Jiang pin kowtowed to The Emperor before crawling and grabbing at the hem of his robes , "Have mercy, Your Majesty, have mercy! I'll apologize to Xiang gui ren; I'll pray for her. You can't keep me locked up. Who–who will care for Huaguang?"
The Emperor closed his eyes and pursed his lips, "Get her out of my sight,"

Please listen to ma stupid 3am idea
Demon king of a famous wuxia stallion novel where he gets all the girls also is the most powerful in the world and is overall unstopable, like gary stu levels of character, suddenly gets transmigated as the world's villainess from a western romance novel he heard in a passing story from one of his many many model girls.
The plot of the stallion male lead novel is absolutely tame and easy, almost boting from its complexity.
The hero lived in a world once upon a time with his only family menber, adding in a bit of a mysterious background as to why there is no one else in his family and what it coukd all mean.
Then a tragedy hits! His only family dies! And its not only a minor casual death, it was a murder!
Vengace! The boy can only think as he goes to cuktivate under the strongest of cultivators and become the strongest so that his family member can rest in peace.
He fails time and time again at becoming strong, often being pranked, tricked and used as a servant instead of being thought like a normal student, but this doesnt stop him at all and after so many setbacks in his life he is finally strong.
Oh but its not only that, he gets to be the strongest of his class, the smartest and most importantly, the most beautiful of them all! Everyone gets so jealous and all the girls swoon at him but out male lead cares none for that, since his only objective is revenge.
And revenge he does! Killing and kilking left and right all the evil teachers, corrupt officials and vilkainous demons tgat get in his was until one faitful day.
His knowledge is full, he has found the killer of his family member.
The demon king.
And not only that, the demon king was planning to kill him because he too is a demon, in fact the heavenly demon! One of the most powerful royal demons from the former demon king!
The story ends as he draws his sword and ends the evil demon begore croening himself emperor of all realms.
Yet, the world becomes a boring haze of black and white, boring and useless to live in. Not a single reason worth living for.
One day a story enters his ears, one from a far land, a young maiden destined to marry a prince, the girl is so kind and beloved that she starts getting suitors from knights to servants to squires to kings and even other demons want her, but she is oblivious to it all, thinking that she is ugly when ifact she one of the most humblest person he has ever heard of. She is stupid is what the demon king thinks, no wonder the heroine falls so easily to the villainess and her obvious traps to make her look like a fool, if it wasnt for the heros and the male lead, the choseb savior who will kill all demons, in love with her then she would be dead or imprisoned.
At the end the horine becomes the next queen alongside tge chosen savior who is revealed to be the long lost brother of the prince and lives a happy ending ruling with kindness, killing all the demons and bringing happyness to the kingdom.
The fairytail ends.
So does his life, awoken in a crucifix of sort, inside a circle with weird inscriptions and weird runes on them, gems and roks laid out.
It was a summoning ritual, he looks at the body that he has been inside of and screams.
Then looks at the mirror and screams even louder.
He is now the villainess, a petty woman in love with the prince, hates to death the heroine and is also the one who will die at the end after abusing her servant for so long who is, in fact, the chosen savior, the male lead she brought as a slave.
He, she, they are both so fucked.

Spoiler
ML seems to start liking this new villainess who seems to look smoking hot with those men's outfits she is wearing. And theroine is looking too ○-○.

Me: omg I’m so behind on all my dramas and webnovels
Also me: let me start a new novel and dedicate all my free time copying and pasting chapters of The Emperor’s Beloved Ugly Girl into DeepL whilst simultaneously toggling between that translation, a bad mtl, and a slightly better google translate (all on my tiny iPhone because I prefer that to reading off of my laptop which reminds me of work)
Like I was saying to @dangermousie the other day, if I even spent half the time and energy that I do on fandom on my actual job, I’d probably be rolling in all the money and success instead of still on this barely functioning hell site bahahahaha. Too bad my job doesn’t give me a dopamine hit like fandom does.

BOOKS BY ASIAN AUTHORS MASTERLIST #stopasianhate
In light of recent events and the growing anti- Asian hate in the US and UK over the course of the pandemic I wanted to put together a masterlist of books by Asian authors. Obviously, it’s not extensive and there are HUNDREDS out there, but supporting art by Asian creators is a way of showing support; read their stories, educate ourselves. It goes without saying that we should all be putting effort into reading stories of POC and by POC because even through fiction we’re learning about different cultures, countries and heritages. So here’s some books to start with by Asian authors!
Here is a link also for resources to educate and petitions to sign (especially if you don’t read haha). It’s important that we educate ourselves and uplift Asian voices right now. Your anti-racism has to include every minority that faces it.
https://anti-asianviolenceresources.carrd.co/
for UK peeps, this is a good read: We may not hear about the anti Asian racism happening here, but it is definitely happening. https://www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/culture/culture-news/a35692226/its-time-we-stopped-downplaying-the-uks-anti-asian-racism/
 THE BOOKS:
·         War Cross- Marie Lu ( the worldbuilding in this is IMMENSE.)
For the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game—it’s a way of life. The obsession started ten years ago and its fan base now spans the globe, some eager to escape from reality and others hoping to make a profit.
·         Star Daughter- Shveta Thakrar
A beautiful story about a girl who is half human and half star, and she must go to the celestial court to try to save her father after he has fallen ill. And before she knows it, she is taking part in a magical competition that she must win!
·         These Violent Delights- Chloe Gong (I told my little sister to read this book yesterday bc she has a thing for a Leo as Romeo- so if you want deadly good looking Romeos, badass Juliet’s and to learn about 1920s Shanghai- this is for you.)
The year is 1926, and Shanghai hums to the tune of debauchery. A blood feud between two gangs runs the streets red, leaving the city helpless in the grip of chaos. A Romeo and Juliet retelling.
·         The Poppy War- R.F Kuang (My fave fantasy series just fyi- it’s soul crushing in the best way. Rebecca Kuang is a god of an author).
A brilliantly imaginative talent makes her exciting debut with this epic historical military fantasy, inspired by the bloody history of China’s twentieth century and filled with treachery and magic, in the tradition of Ken Liu’s Grace of Kings and N.K. Jemisin’s Inheritance Trilogy.
·         Loveboat Taipei-  Abigail Hing Wen  (Really heartwarming and insightful!)
When eighteen-year-old Ever Wong’s parents send her from Ohio to Taiwan to study Mandarin for the summer, she finds herself thrust among the very over-achieving kids her parents have always wanted her to be, including Rick Woo, the Yale-bound prodigy profiled in the Chinese newspapers since they were nine—and her parents’ yardstick for her never-measuring-up life.
·         Sorcerer to the Crown- Zen Cho (if anyone is looking for another Howl’s Moving Castle, look no further than this book)
At his wit’s end, Zacharias Wythe, freed slave, eminently proficient magician, and Sorcerer Royal of the Unnatural Philosophers—one of the most respected organizations throughout all of Britain—ventures to the border of Fairyland to discover why England’s magical stocks are drying up.
·         Emergency Contact- Mary H.K. Choi (very wholesome and fun rom-com!)
For Penny Lee high school was a total nonevent. When she heads to college in Austin, Texas, to learn how to become a writer, it’s seventy-nine miles and a zillion light years away from everything she can’t wait to leave behind.
 ·         Jade City- Fonda Lee (I am reading this currently and can I just say- I think everyone who loves fantasy and blood feuds in a story should read this.)
JADE CITY is a gripping Godfather-esque saga of intergenerational blood feuds, vicious politics, magic, and kungfu. The Kaul family is one of two crime syndicates that control the island of Kekon. It's the only place in the world that produces rare magical jade, which grants those with the right training and heritage superhuman abilities.
 ·         A Pho Love Story- Loan Le

A fresh and addictive fantasy-romance set in modern-day Seoul.
 ·         Descendant of the Crane- Joan He

 ·         Pachinko- Min Jin Lee
Richly told and profoundly moving, Pachinko is a story of love, sacrifice, ambition, and loyalty. From bustling street markets to the halls of Japan's finest universities to the pachinko parlors of the criminal underworld, Lee's complex and passionate characters--strong, stubborn women, devoted sisters and sons, fathers shaken by moral crisis--survive and thrive against the indifferent arc of history.
·         America is in the Heart- Carlos Bulosan
First published in 1946, this autobiography of the well known Filipino poet describes his boyhood in the Philippines, his voyage to America, and his years of hardship and despair as an itinerant laborer following the harvest trail in the rural West.

Alternating between real and magic, past and present, friendship and romance, hope and despair, The Astonishing Color of After is a novel about finding oneself through family history, art, grief, and love.

It's 1889. The city is on the cusp of industry and power, and the Exposition Universelle has breathed new life into the streets and dredged up ancient secrets. Here, no one keeps tabs on dark truths better than treasure-hunter and wealthy hotelier Séverin Montagnet-Alarie. When the elite, ever-powerful Order of Babel coerces him to help them on a mission, Séverin is offered a treasure that he never imagined: his true inheritance.
·         When Dimple met Rishi- Sandhya Menon

Keep sharing, signing petitions and donating where you can. The more people who are actively anti-racist, the better. And if your anti-racism doesn’t include the Asian community then go and educate yourself! BLM wasn’t a trend and neither is this. We have to stand up against white supremacy, and racism and stereotypes and we have to support the communities that need our support. Part of that can include cultivating your reading so you’re reading more diversely and challenging any stereotypes western society may have given you.

The Life of The Prophet Muhammad(pbuh): Before His Birth, His Birth and His Childhood
The Prophet is Under the Care of Abdulmuttalib, his Grandfather
When our Holy Prophet (PBUH) lost his mother at the age of six, his elderly grandfather took him under his care.
Abdulmuttalib, the leader of the Quraysh, had his share of the light of Ahmad. That light (noor) caused him to earn high merits and attributes.  Excellent traits like a bright face, kind words, shyness, gentleness, and a superior code of conduct were added to his height, large head, and grandiose appearance.  He was patient, clever, thoughtful, chivalrous and generous. Even animals were not exempted from his charity and generosity. He would even think about the hungry animals and birds on the mountains.
That light (noor) caused him to earn high merits and attributes.  Excellent traits like a bright face, kind words, shyness, gentleness, and a superior code of conduct were added to his height, large head, and grandiose appearance. Even animals were not exempted from his charity and generosity. He always thought and was concerned about the ones that roamed with hunger and thirst on the mountain tops.
He was one of the fortunate people who had not separated from the path of light that was in between the vast darkness of the age of ignorance. He was very devoted to Allah and believed in the hereafter. Thus, he did not hesitate to place his most beloved son underneath a knife so that he could fulfill the promise that he had made to Allah. He would have sacrificed his son if the Qurayshis had not intervened. He would distance himself from the ugly rituals of the Age of Ignorance and would also prevent others from participating. At the same time, he would prevent others from the horrible practice of burying infant girls alive. He would always abstain from alcohol and adultery and would try to avert the occurring torture and injustice in Mecca with all his might.
He deeply enjoyed entertaining guests. He would pay close attention to his relatives and would show them compassion and loving kindness. Because of this wonderful quality, the Qurayshis would refer to him as “Ibrahim the Second”.
When Ramadan entered, he would retreat to the cave of Hira and would be preoccupied with worshipping; he was the first to have started this practice.
At the same time, this elderly grandfather knew what loving a child and grandchild was like. It was a great pleasure to love a grandchild as sweet and immaculate as the Master of the Universe (PBUH).
Abdulmuttalib truly loved his grandson who disseminated light everywhere. He sheltered our Holy Prophet (PBUH) like a delicate nestling in between his affectionate wings. He did not want to go anywhere without him. Even at this age, our Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) behavior was no different than that of an enlightened person. Immediately, everyone would notice this extraordinary circumstance wherever he went. In fact, from time to time, Abdulmuttalib would first consult with his grandson before he provided any answers to the questions asked during meetings and conversations.
At that age, the Prophet was like a sincere friend of his old grandfather, a sympathetic ear and a trustable consultant. However, he always acted respectfully toward his grandfather.
Only he was allowed to sit on the seat of his grandfather!
A mat would almost always be laid out for Abdulmuttalib upon the shadow of the Kaaba’s wall. None of the children would get on top of this mat. Instead, they would sit around it and wait until their fathers came.
Abdulmuttalib would not take any of his children on this mat except for his grandson whom he would hug and place alongside himself. Our Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) uncles would always want to separate him from this mat; however, their father would hinder them and say:
“Release my son. By Allah, in the future, his reputation and glory are going to be great”.
He would then indicate his everlasting love for his venerable grandson by placing him alongside himself once more while gently rubbing his back. Nobody other than our Beloved Prophet (PBUH) had the courage to wake Abdulmuttalib up while he was sleeping. And nobody was able to enter Abdulmuttalib’s personal room without permission except for our Holy Prophet (PBUH).
The elderly grandfather would have his radiant-faced grandson sit next to him or on his lap at the dining table. He would feed him the most delicious portion of the meal and would not allow the meal to begin until he came.
When the Prophet was a bit late!
One day, the Master of the Universe’s grandfather sent him to go look for his missing camel. When our Holy Prophet (PBUH) was running slightly late, his grandfather was overcome with worry that he was lost. His sadness could easily be read on his face. He immediately ran to the Kaaba and opened his hands to pray to the Supreme Creator. He begged, “My Lord, please return my Muhammad back to me!”
A little while later, our Holy Prophet (PBUH) suddenly appeared with the camel right next to him. His grandfather happily hugged him and said “my unique grandson, dear, I was so sad and worried about you. I bawled so much that I will never have you leave my side and send you somewhere on your own from now on”. Indeed, Abdulmuttalib did not refrain from following his grandson like a shadow until his death.
What did the Yemeni ruler, Saif bin dhi Yazan, say to Abdulmuttalib
Abdulmuttalib, who loved our Holy Prophet (PBUH) wholeheartedly, was away from him for a short period of time only once during his life.
The Yemeni monarch, Saif bin Dhiyazan, recaptured his father’s country from the Habashis and occupied the throne in the city of Gumdan. Tribal chieftains were coming from all four sides of Arabia to congratulate him.
A committee representing Mecca that was headed by Abdulmuttalib was supposed to go to Gundam. For this reason, by leaving Mecca, Abdulmuttalib was going to be far away from our Holy Prophet (PBUH).
Following their long journey, Saif bin Dhiyazan accepted the Meccan committee upon their arrival to Gundam. Abdulmuttalib received permission from the Emperor to mention his high merits and his father who had been an auspicious ruler. He made the following connection to specify and distinguish his committee:
“We are the people of this nation that Allah has made inviolable. We are the ministrants of the Baytullah (the Kaaba)”.
This statement grabbed the monarch’s attention, therefore he asked, “Oh smooth-spoken person, who are you?”
Abdulmuttalib answered, “I am Hashim’s son, Abdulmuttalib”.
Saif was interested in more. He said joyfully and excitedly, “So, you are my sister’s son”.
Abdulmuttalib said, “Yes.”
Upon hearing this, Saif took a greater interest in Abdulmuttalib and wanted him to come closer. He then said, “I learned that we are related. I am very happy with your visit. You are worthy of being treated very hospitably and of being conversed with day and night. You are a very honorable and esteemed people”.
Saif did not settle on those complimentary words. He proved that what he was sincere by entertaining Abdulmuttalib as a guest in his palace for a month.
The days in the palace were always spent by conversing. Saif had learned about the attributes of the forthcoming Prophet from the Holy Books and was finding some clues from his conversations. One day, he discreetly called Abdulmuttalib during a break so that no one would notice. He wanted to speak with him. When Abdulmuttalib arrived next to him, he said, “Oh Abdulmuttalib, “I am going to entrust a secret to you and I believe that this secret is related to you. We have been hiding this very great and important news that I have found in a book”.
Abdulmuttalib asked, “What is it?”
Saif then unveiled his secret: “It is probable that he is a living child. He is going to be or has been born in the region of Tihama, which is on your side of the country. He has a mole in between his shoulder blades. His grandfather and uncle will take him under their care when both of his parents die. He will show hospitality to both his friends and helpers and will cause his enemies to suffer from contempt. He is going to conquer the most prosperous places and be the people’s guide and leader until Armageddon. He will remove false religions, eliminate idol worship, and worship the Compassionate Lord. His words will solve impasses and his work will be based upon foresight and justice. He will always order for goodness to be done, will do good deeds, and will prevent others from committing misdeeds”.
Abdulmuttalib was overcome with curiosity and excitement and wanted the Ruler to further explain and to further open this secret. He said, “Oh, Emperor! May your life be long, your reign continuous, and your glory be great. Could you further describe this child?”
After the Emperor listed the other signs and proofs he said, “Oh, Abdulmuttalib. It means that when all these signs are considered, that you are probably the grandfather”. Abdulmuttalib immediately prostrated from happiness.
This time, it was the Emperor’s turn to be curious and puzzled. He asked, “Oh Abdulmuttalib! Did you sense anything from what I have told you?”
Saif was happy that he had not been mistaken and said, “Protect your grandchild very carefully. The Jews are enemy to him. Protect him so that they will not harm him. Nevertheless, Allah is not going to give his enemies the chance or the possibility to do so. According to what I have found and learned in the ancient books, Yathrib (Medina) is going to be his place of emigration and he is going to receive much help there”.
Both the Emperor and Abdulmuttalib were relieved for having solved a great impasse.
Saif bin Dhiyazan was heralding our Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) advent as a Prophet.
A while later, the Emperor saw off the Qurayshi committee to Mecca by treating them with immense respect and honor and giving them generous gifts. Abdulmuttalib’s gifts were far more in number than everyone else’s. After he bid them farewell, the Emperor said, “I would like to you inform me of the changes that are seen in the child’s condition every year”.
However, in less than one year after this conversation, Saif bin Dhiyazan passed away without being able to receive any further news from the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) grandfather.
On their journey back, Abdulmuttalib’s companions asked him why the Emperor had given him more gifts and showed him more respect and kindness. He comforted them by saying, “Do not be jealous. There is a certain reason for this”.
When Abdulmuttalib arrived in Mecca after a month of separation, he hugged his radiant grandson with longing and tried to rid his pain of separation with the sweetness of having been reunited.
The Prophet, a means of “Mercy”
Our Beloved Prophet (PBUH) was still under his grandfather, Abdulmuttalib’s care.
Mecca and its surroundings were suffering from terrible hardship and famine due to the drought.
Abdulmuttalib, who understood his grandson’s degree of importance, took him and his son, Abu Talib, to the Abu Qubays Mountain. The Qurayshis were coming right behind them.
Abdulmuttalib turned his face towards the Kaaba and lifted our Holy Prophet (PBUH) towards the sky three times and begged, “My Lord! Gladden us by sending rain for the sake of this child”.
The supplication that was done out of respect for the Master of the Universe (PBUH) was accepted. Raindrops instantly mixed with the people’s and the gentry’s teardrops of happiness.
All of these occurrences further increased the love and attachment the grandfather had towards his grandson and strengthened his conviction that his grandson would become an exalted person in the future. And it was for this reason that he showed the utmost care to this radiant grandchild.
DEATH OF ABDULMUTTALİB
Abdulmuttalib, who had become considerably old, fell ill one day. And his illness was gradually increasing its level of intensity.
He understood that his emigration to the afterlife was near. However, he had one necessary duty left to fulfill: To choose a dependable person that he could entrust our Beloved Prophet (PBUH) to.
For this reason, he called all of his sons. Abu Lahab came into his mind. However Abu Lahab was a coldhearted and merciless individual, therefore Abdulmuttalib said “no” to himself.
How about Abbas? No, he could not be, either. He had so many children and could only find time for them.
How about Hamza? He could not accept him either. Hamza was young and interested in hunting. He would not be able to to show due attention and care to our Holy Prophet (PBUH).
Very well. Then how about Abu Talib? He had found his radiant grandson’s guardian! Although Abu Talib’s assets were little, his compassion and mercy were ample. Only he deserved taking our Holy Prophet (PBUH) under his care.
Abdulmuttalib did not neglect asking our Holy Prophet (PBUH) for his opinion. He asked, “Which of your uncles’ custody would you like to be under?” Upon hearing his grandfather’s question, our Beloved Prophet (PBUH) got up from his spot and went to embrace his Uncle Abu Talib. And it was in this manner that he expressed whom he would like as his guardian.
Abdulmuttalib was happy that he had preferred the best candidate. Afterwards, he turned to Abu Talib and said, “I am entrusting him to you. He is a Divine trust. Promise me that you will protect him inspite of everything, even if it is at the cost of your own life so that I will not have to worry and my heart can be content”.
Abu Talib, who was deeply touched that our Master (PBUH) had favored him, responded to his father with teary eyes:
“Do not worry, my dear father. You can be assured that I will prefer him over my own children and my life. I promise that I will not allow anyone to harm him as long as I live”.
Abdulmuttalib was pleased a lot by his son’s statement and his eyes were filled with tears of happiness.
...And Muhammad (pbuh) was delivered by Abdulmuttalib to Abu Talib, his uncle.
Abdulmuttalib, who was unable to be saved from his afflicted illness, passed away from this world as an elderly man having exceeded 80 years and who was not yet full of his grandson’s happiness, love, and affection
The date was 578 AD, eight years after the Year of the Elephant (Elephant Year).
The Meccan market was closed for days on account of Abdulmuttalib’s death. The Qurayshis and all those who loved and respected him mourned for days. His corpse was passed from one hand to the next in the highest esteem upon its burial. They then buried him in the Hajun cemetery next to his grandfather, Qusai.
Tears of the Prophet
Beloved Prophet (PBUH) felt deep sorrow for having lost his grandfather. This incident reminded him of his parents’ emigration to the hereafter.
Our Holy Prophet (PBUH) could not contain his teardrops during his grandfather’s funeral and burial; sometimes he would sob and other times he would cry silently without making a single sound.
Many years later, they asked our Holy Prophet (PBUH) whether or not he remembered his grandfather’s death. He responded by saying, “Yes, I remember. I was eight years old at that time”.
The first eight years of Our Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) blissful life were filled with pain, sadness, and sorrow. From that age onwards, his great soul and compassionate heart were molded with anguish and tribulations so that he could endure the hardships and catastrophes that he would have to face in his future.

Hi! Can I please get some HC’s of how Hakuryuu would feel if his fem!s/o become jealous because some of the Kina Kingdom girls were swooning over how handsome and talented Hakuryuu is? She tries to pass it off as nothing, but she knows that she has grown feelings for the ex-emperor since he first forced her into the relationship.
TW: yandere, implied kidnapping, stockholm syndrome?
While Hakuryuu is flattered by the attention he gets from the Kina girls, he pays them little mind–as he already had a woman he held near and dear to his heart so he doesn’t think much of it–however, what catches his eye is the scowl on his beloved’s face as she glares holes into the Kina girls’ backs as they walk away from him. Now what would cause such an ugly expression on such a beautiful face, he wonders, but doesn’t bother asking her; he figures she’s just in a bad mood due to being tired or something of the sort.
But when his darling snaps at a scantily-clad female that had come his way, fawning over his ‘good looks’ and talent, Hakuryuu is shocked. Never had his sweet one showed such hostile behavior towards someone before (well, she did at him in the past when he had first so ‘kindly’ ‘brought’ her into his home, but that was completely different), then it hits him–was she… jealous of the attention he was getting from other women? Pondering over the thought, a realization comes to him: normally his beloved was rather well-behaved and never acted out of line–she knew better than to act out by now, he made sure of it–and nothing ever brought out such questionable behavior…until a couple of pretty-faced females came his way and basked him with their attention…oh, she was jealous!
It was quite a surprise to him–a delightful one at that. Usually, he was the one who got rather jealous, and any man who ever looked her way was met with a scathing, threatening glare that just dared him to come near her. The body count of those who came around her with the intention to steal her away wasn’t that high, but it could always grow. But he only got jealous because she belonged to him, and the thought of anyone taking her away from him utterly infuriated him–but because he loved her. He loved her so dearly that the thought of her being with another pained him. So…did her acting with such jealousy meant that she finally returned his feelings?
When he confronts her about her behavior later on that night in their shared room, at first she brushes him off, refusing to talk about it–but eventually, he gets his way as he always did, how he always does–through force. She breaks down and confesses that she didn’t like the way those women were looking at him, because she was the only woman who was supposed to have his attention and nobody else because she loved him; and as she rambles on Hakuryuu feels his heart nearly explode in his chest with warmth as those words repeat themselves over and over again in his mind: she loved him.
She loved him. His darling loved him! Finally, after everything they had been through–from the moment he laid his eyes on her in Sindria, to him ‘insisting’ on dragging bringing her back to Kou with him, the cries, the hateful words, the escape attempts, the harsh punishments, losing his crown and being on the run with her, Aladdin and Morgina–he finally had her love. Oh, he was absolutely giddy!
He interrupts her words with a passionate kiss, pouring all his love into it, peppering her face with quick little ones after pulling away and brings her to their shared bed so he can show her just how much he loved her in return and that she was the only woman in his life–the woman who would remain at his side forever, now without him having to force her to.

Psycho Analysis: Hol Horse
Tumblr media
(WARNING! This analysis contains SPOILERS!)
So last year I thought it was a good idea to try and review all of the enemy Stand users in Stardust Crusaders in a totally random order. The results were… mixed. Some of them I think came out okay, but others? Not so much. One of them was just an entire backhanded attack against some guy who decided to say “No one likes your analyses” because I think ProJared was a creep. It was, quite frankly, a mess, and I never bothered to revisit it and never thought I would, even though I still hadn’t covered the glorious, wonderful human being who is Hol Horse.
Well, now, after playing Heritage for the Future and All-Star Battle as well as just becoming a bit more knowledgeable on JJBA, I’ve decided to not only give Hol Horse his dues, but also at least briefly go back over or cover the other Stand users and give them a rating or an updated rating, as the case may be. So buckle in, this is gonna be a long one, and it’s all gonna start with everyone’s favorite incompetent henchman.
Hol Horse is probably one of the most amazing characters Araki has ever created. Hol Horse is in possession of a powerful Stand, The Emperor, which is literally a magical gun that fires bullets he can control the trajectory of. By all accounts, Hol Horse should be the single most dangerous foe that the Crusaders face, more than even Vanilla Ice. This guy should be able to shoot them all dead without a second thought! There’s just one tiny little caveat:
Hol Horse is a fucking moron.
This man is cowardly, incompetent, and just the punching bag of cruel misfortune as all his plans constantly go awry and he is constantly knocked on his ass. And yet, Hol Horse is still the most beloved enemy Stand User of Stardust Crusaders, and it’s not hard to see why. Because despite all of his bumbling, Hol Horse just oozes a sort of cool you just don’t see every day.
(For best results, listen to this the whole time while reading the following).
Motivation/Goals: Hol Horse is one of the few henchmen of DIO who is motivated purely by his own greed… at least, at first. Eventually he has his ass handed to him one too many times, and he decides to try and assassinate DIO. This goes about as well as you’d expect, and Hol Horse – not just part of it, the ENTIRE Horse – is so scared out of his mind that he decides, yep, loyalty to DIO is the way to go! It doesn’t work out, but hey, he tried, right?
Performance: Imami Williams gives Hol Horse that raspy, American charm he needs in the anime adaptation. With his voice and the animation combined, we get to see our favorite smarmy sharpshooter who can’t shoot for shit shoot his shot and miss every time, and it is simply glorious.
Final Fate: Hol Horse kidnaps Boingo and forces him to work with him to finally get his revenge! With the prophetic skills of Thoth and the raw damage that can be done with Emperor, there’s no way they could lose! And yet, as is always the case with Thoth, things go horrendously awry and Hol Horse, despite having the ability to control the trajectory of his bullets, ends up shooting himself and knocking him out of part 3 for good.
Best Scene: Really, just the entirety of the episodes where he teams up with Boingo, especially when he tries holding up Polnareff. Considering what comes after and what came before it, it’s just the dose of lighthearted fun needed before you watch all of your favorite characters get brutally murdered by DIO and Vanilla Ice,.
Best Quote: There is only one line it could be, and it’s Hol Horse’s response to Thoth’s suggestion he kick a woman in the neck: “Listen, Boingo... I am the nicest man in the world. I have girlfriends everywhere. I might lie to a woman, but I'll never hit them! It doesn't matter how ugly they are! Because I respect women!”
That’s right, everyone. Hol Horse drinks Respect Women Juice.
Final Thoughts & Score: Hol Horse is simply astounding. The character is such a colossal screwup that he shouldn’t be as good as he is… yet he is. The dude is gifted with the most incredible power imaginable, and yet somehow he is never able to do a goddamn thing with that power! You control where the bullets go, dude! How can you not hit anything?! It’s interesting how his cowardice and lack of motivation makes him a perfect representation of the inverted Emperor tarot card, but hey, tarot motifs are par for the course with the Stand users.
But there’s something charming to how pathetic Hol Horse is. He’s always plying second banana, he’s a dirty coward who turns tail and runs when things aren’t looking good for him, he never wins a single battle, he didn’t even kill the one guy it seemed like he killed… but throughout it all he still has this sort of smarmy charisma to him that makes him impossible to hate. It’s no wonder this guy has girls all over the world, because he is a world-class charmer. There’s also how Hol Horse is just a character who really, really lives by his own personal philosophy – that is to say, he always likes to be #2, never going into a fight without backup. It’s kind of refreshing to see him always stick by this, even to his own detriment; it’s hard to hate a man who’s principled to that degree. And, of course, this man respects women. Good on him.
It helps that Hol Horse’s inexplicable popularity has led to him getting his time to shine in outside media. Heritage for the Future has two versions of him, his regular form and one that partners him with Boingo, and in skilled hands his Emperor finally gets to live up to its deadly potential. And he’s no slouch in his return appearance in All-Star Battle, and what’s more impressive is in that game he is part of the base roster while Joseph and Iggy, two of the main heroes, are relegated to DLC! You heard me right: the bumbling cowboy who did not win a single fight or even come close to it and spent a lot of time shooting himself managed to beat out out two iconic heroes from the same part onto the roster! Horsey Man must be doing something right.
As this video shows, Hol Horse is one of the most influential characters in the JJBA franchise, having helped to shape the franchise going forward and helped to inspire the traits that made beloved characters like Guido Mista, Gyro Zeppeli, and Yoshikage Kira as legendary as they are. Hell, Hol Horse is just so awesome he almost got to be a protagonist, but Araki decided that Horsey was too similar to my favorite big-titty Frenchman, Polnareff. This means Hol Horse never got his time to shine as a hero, and so stayed a villain til the end… but hey, can he really be that sad if he gets a 10/10 on Psycho Analysis?
Actually, maybe he wouldn’t like that. He likes to play second fiddle to others, after all. But I guess that’s just the curse with these JoJo villains who want to not stand out; they always end up being the best and most memorable characters.
Anyway, now that we’ve got the best of the best out of the way, it’s time for...
Psycho Analysis: DIO’s Other Henchmen
I’m just gonna give my brief thoughts on these guys. Most of them are pretty one-note oneshots, but there are a few who rise above that and manage to be something else entirely. These guys were a learning experience for Araki, and his enemy Stand users of the week definitely improved with later parts, with Vento Aureo really cranking it up to 11.
But for now, we’re stuck with these guys.
Gray Fly: I actually stand by my opinion from my original review of him; he’s nothing incredibly memorable, but he’s a solid start to the adventure and he is directly responsible for diverting the journey onto the course it ended up going on. Without him, things would have likely played out far differently. A 5/10 is still a good score for him.
Fake Captain Tenille: He actually gets bumped down to a 2/10, due to my changes in how things are scored. He’s not amusing enough to be in the “So bad it’s good” category of the other 3s, he’s just really lame and forgettable, and he still somehow manages to lose when he has the advantage. What a dweeb.
Forever: If you think the monkey boat fight is dropping in score, you’re mistaken. Forever remains at an 8/10 for being such a delightfully weird curveball that helps set the tone for the franchise to follow.
Devo: One of the weirder playable character choices from Heritage for the Future, and certainly not one I like too much; he’s also a random event that is pretty useful in All-Star Battle’s online campaign, so that’s a good mark for him. If nothing else, he gave a good showing of Polnareff’s skills when under pressure, so… yeah. I think a 5/10 is good enough.
Tumblr media
Rubber Soul: This review I regret because I was backhandedly responding to that guy who weirdly decided to bring up my distaste for ProJared in a review of Arabia Fats and Kenny G. I do mostly stand by what I said; Rubber Soul is one of the more amusing minor foes, if only because of his ridiculous performance as Kakyoin. Still, it really sucks he was just a clone character in Heritage for the Future… put he gets points for  having the iconic cherry-licking as a taunt. 6/10 is where he remains.
Tumblr media
J. Geil: Again, my opinion hasn’t changed: J. Geil is a mountain of wasted potential, but at the very least he makes for a good antagonist for his brief appearance and hey, he’s the one who helped bring us the beautiful hunk of man that is Hol Horse, so I’d feel bad giving him less than a 7/10.
Tumblr media
Nena: I honestly think Nena is one of the most boring Stand users of the part, which is sad because her episode gives Joseph the spotlight. She’s just really gross and uninteresting, and you’ll likely forget her after her episode is over. 2/10.
Tumblr media
ZZ: ZZ is not particularly great, and his design is just there to be a joke, but it’s hard to totally hate a guy who manages to roll references to Christine, Duel, and the album cover for Eliminator by his namesake into one. I think he’s more of a 4/10, but probably on the higher end there. He’s not great, but he has enough going for him to keep me from hating him.
Tumblr media
Enya: So if I thought that J. Geil was a waste of potential, I feel this even more so for his mother Enya. Despite being hyped up as this big, intimidating right-hand woman to DIO early on, she gets one appearance where her Stand is defeated by Star Platinum pulling a power out his ass and then is unceremoniously killed by Steely Dan of all people. I will give her this: her interactions with Polnareff are absolutely hilarious. But when all you have going for is some jokes, don’t be surprised when you end up with a 6/10, which you’re pretty much only getting because even despite the mountains of wasted potential you’re really not that bad.
Tumblr media
She do be looking hot in the OVA tho.
Tumblr media
Steely Dan: My opinion is unchanged; he’s a solid 7/10 oneshot douchebag. Nothing more, nothing less. His level in the PS1 game seriously blows, though.
Tumblr media
Arabia Fats: I was too hard on this guy. While I meant everything I said, and his episode is boring filler, does it really make him a bottom of the barrel all-time worst villain? No. It just makes him a crappy joke character. 2/10.
Mannish Boy: I regret not getting to this guy last time, because aside from Forever he’s probably one of the most insane Stand user of the part, seeing as he is an infant. Like, he’s just an evil baby who can kill people in their dreams. And he gets defeated by being force fed his own crap. Much like Forever, it’s fun to speculate where exactly DIO found this guy; did he just go to a nursery and start jabbing babies with the Stand arrow? Did he meet this guy at a Cairo night club? What exactly is Mannish Boy’s origin? He’s just so utterly and hilariously inexplicable. He’s definitely a 7/10; he doesn’t quite have the shock factor that Forever did before him, but let’s not pretend an evil talking baby Stand user isn’t one hell of a weird twist.
Tumblr media
Cameo: This guy really lives up to his name; his Stand is the one that gets the most screentime, with the actual Stand user being relegated to a – you guessed it – cameo appearance at the end of the fight. Thankfully, his Stand is an enjoyable take on jerkass genies and gives a pretty sad and disturbing episode that not only features my man Polnareff, but also marks the point where Avdol returns and brings “Hell 2 U!” I think he deserves at least a 7/10, even if this is mainly for Judgment. Still, a Stand is a representation of the user’s soul, so I think it works out.
Here’s the Stand:
Tumblr media
And here’s the man behind it:
Tumblr media
Midler: Midler is one of the single most interesting characters from the pre-Egypt half of Stardust Crusaders, and is the point where Stand users really started to get interesting. Her Stand, High Priestess, has a really funky and unique design, and her battle serves as the final roadblock before the Crusaders arrive in Egypt. Despite never appearing onscreen, with only her unconscious body being shown at the end of the fight in a way that obscures her, she got to appear in Heritage for the Future with an awesome sexy belly dancer design and a badass moveset that makes her a really fun character to play as. Taking everything into account, I think she just barely scrapes into the bottom of the 8/10 pool, though really this is mainly for her playable appearance.
Tumblr media
N’Doul: My opinions really haven’t changed on him. He’s still an 8/10.
Oingo & Boingo: These guys are, in a word, hilarious. In between the grueling, brutal fight with N’Doul and the later fights in the part, these guys bring some much needed levity to the proceedings. Oingo gets an entire episode where he just completely bumbles about as he attempts to impersonate Jotaro to assassinate the Crusaders, failing at every turn and only managing to blow himself up in the end. Boingo fares a little better, eventually getting roped in to Hol Horse’s scheme to get some revenge, which leads to one of the funniest episodes of the entire series as Hol Horse and Oingo hold up Polnareff. I think they collectively get an 8/10 for being two of the funniest Stand users in the part. They even get their own unique end credits in the anime (with Hol Horse joining in on the fun when he teams up with Boingo)!
Tumblr media
Anubis: Again, my opinion is unchanged, though I must say him having technically three playable appearances in Heritage for the Future does make me have at least a little more fondness for him. Black Polnareff, Chaka, and Khan are all amusing characters to play as and all have some awesome theme music. Introducing the concept of Stands being able to exist independently of their Original user is pretty neat, as well as the idea of a Stand that can switch users like it does. 7/10 is still what I’d give it, but I think that it’s pretty telling that this is probably the “weakest” character in the Egypt arcs in terms of being a villain, and yet he’s still pretty cool.
Tumblr media
Mariah: Completely unchanged. She still deserves an 8/10, because her episode is hilarious, her playable appearance in Heritage for the Future is a blast, and she’s just really frikkin’ hot. I’m not gonna lie, she’s probably my second favorite enemy Stand user out of the Egyptian ones. I may or may not want her to step on me.
Tumblr media
Alessi: I’m going to be honest here: Alessi is my favorite of the Egyptian Stand users. He’s an ax crazy coward with pedophile undertones who is just an utterly demented and sick individual with a seriously intriguing Stand that de-ages its victims. It’s a damn shame he never crossed paths with Joseph and de-aged him, but when he’s just such a hilarious and hateable lunatic with an incredibly fun playable appearance in Heritage for the Future (complete with awesomely creepy theme music!) it’s hard for me to give Alessi anything less than a 9/10. Attaboy!
Tumblr media
Daniel J. D’Arby: My opinion is honestly unchanged, but I think I’d bump him down to an 8/10.
Pet Shop: Again, unchanged really. It’s hard to give a character as busted as he is in Heritage for the Future anything less than a 9/10 any way you slice it.
Telence T. D’Arby: Opinion unchanged, 8/10. I don’t have much else to say here, besides Xander Mobus rocks.
Kenny G: See Arabia Fats above. I got irrationally mad over a dumb joke character. He’s not going above a 2/10, but he’s not worth really getting mad about.
Vanilla Ice: I still think he’s the only enemy Stand user besides Hol Horse who deserves his 10/10. My opinion of him remains unchanged, but I would like to say he’s easily one of my favorite characters to play as in All-Star Battle.
Tumblr media
Nukesaku: Ok, he’s not an enemy Stand user, he’s just some weird vampire… zombie… thing. Still, I feel he’s at least worth briefly mentioning, if only because he’s probably the only easily-defeated joke villain Araki did from the first three parts who is particularly memorable. Wired Beck and Doobie are really not all that memorable, but Nukesaku at least elicits a few chuckles – he even gets cameos in Heritage for the Future as well as getting to be a stage hazard in All-Star Battle. For what he is, I think he deserves a 5/10.
Tumblr media
And with all these enemies taken care of, that just leaves one more Stand user to talk about.. one whose Psycho Analysis has been sitting in my drafts for a year now...
