i'm not really a monster high fan; like, i don't really know anything about the shows/movies or anything, but earlier, while i was shelving at work, i got to thinking about how various cryptids might exist in the monster high world. so. i’ve now decided to make it everyone's problem.

"the daughter of the cactus cat:" a little southern sweetheart. she'd be super hospitable and love hugs but bc she's covered in cactus spines no one wants to get too close to her. she wants to be a doctor (bc aloe is a healing succulent ik it's not a cactus but i think it's close enough shut up). she has long curly hair and there's little pink flowers stuck in it. wears a lot of leather/cow hide to protect others from her prickles.

“the child of the fresno nightcrawlers:” i don’t really have a personality for this one bUT! the doll form uses the little sister body type (bc the irl cryptids are quite short) and they have prosthetic arms (bc the irl cryptids have no arms). maybe they’re really into robotics, but they use little robots they've made to play pranks on the other students (since the irl cryptids are largely explained by skeptics as being an elaborate joke/hoax)?

“the daughter of the fur bearing trout:” okay this one’s really silly but – consider – raver lake monster (bc ravers wear those furry leg warmers and hats). i know you’re thinking, “there’s already three djs in monster high,” but she’s not a dj, she just dances. also, if there’s three djs but no raves we need to balance things out. her color palette is mostly silver, red, and white, but there’s some rainbows thrown in for both the raving aesthetic and bc fish scales are kinda iridescent.

“the daughter of the reptilian chupacabra:” she’s really into filmmaking/media production (because the description of the puerto rican chupacabra is based on a movie creature). she’s the cousin of the canid chupacabra and they’re besties! their dream career is making a cooking and fitness show together.

“the son of the canid chupacabra:” he’s kind of a jock and very popular (i have a reason for this but it’s kinda esoteric so sorry you don’t get the explanation here). he likes to cook but mostly consumes fitness smoothies/juices (since chupacabra means goat sucker). ironically, he’s a vegetarian.

Dick & Kory’s Love Languages

So I did a little mini meta on Twitter about what I think Dick and Kory’s love languages are so why not share it with my folks!

Kory is emotionally intelligent and she can really hit all five languages depending on who she is with but her personal languages are physical touch and acts of service.

In s1 Kory immediately goes into protector mode when she rescues Rachel. She not only uses physical touch to show affection but also her physical power. The duality of her physical whether to heal or to harm is displayed throughout the season.

Although it wasn’t her intention to sleep with Dick that night, he used physical touch as avoidance while she used it in hopes that it would open him up emotionally.

After the physical trauma of being experimented on in the asylum, she turns to the physical touch of someone she trusts to combat the feelings of being violated.

In s2 she used her physical powers to heal Conner and her AOS Language came fully into play when she left her own problems behind to help the titans and Dick.

In s3 She’s now fully comfortable with her new family and uses touch a lot to comfort Gar. She hugs Hank immediately when she sees him. She also uses her physicality to show Conner her frustration. She also heals Dick by stitching up his wounds. (This was the only time they interacted physically 🙃) And steps in front of him to protect him from Gar’s anger.

In s4 her tendency for physical touch is highly utilized. Now she’s completely cemented her position as co-head of the family. She��s comfortable. She’s touching Dick whenever she can. To flirt, to calm him down, to stabilize herself. She’s hugging everyone all the time.

Whereas Dick’s love language is firmly placed in acts of service. It took until s4 for him to even be emotionally available enough to delve into the other placements but that’s fine because one thing you can count on is Dick showing up for you to give or get you what you need.

In s1 he drops everything to protect and help Rachel once she re-enters his life. He tries to find better help for her than him but realizes it’s ultimately best for him and Kory to do it. He uses all of his abilities and connections to do this.

This continues in s2 when he feels like he can’t protect his friends any longer he makes the decision to go to jail. He is the person they need protection from, therefore he will remove himself from the situation no matter how bad it hurts him.

In s3 he tries to do everything in his power, including to continue to sacrifice himself to save Jason, protect his family, and Gotham. Kory and Gar remind him that sacrificing hisself is not the way to go about it and it takes him dying for that to really sink in because he’s crazy. But yes.

In s4 he does everything he can and uses ALL of his resources to help everyone to fight this prophecy and their destiny. His efforts are a bit futile because his lesson was to learn to trust. Trust that Kory knows how to defeat this evil, that Rachel can control her darkness, that Gar has control over his abilities, that Conner will ultimately do good, that Tim can stand on his own. By providing them the tools he was able to help and not just be the tool. He also explored quality time with the road-trip plan in general which is Gar’s love language.

The thing to remember about love languages is to love the other person in theirs and not yours. Dick and Kory learned this overtime together. Kory gives the ultimate act of service in sacrificing her life for Dick everyone. Which is a language he can completely understand.

Dick shows up physically for Kory everywhere. Being her literally shoulder to lean on when she’s feeling weak. Now he could’ve done a bit more with this emotionally but well let him cook for now. And finally once he realizes what he could’ve lost shows her exactly how he feels in that final kiss. He’s no longer using affection to deflect or escape but to express.

Oh yeah sure!

I’m cyberr, I go by a lot of names, currently my favourites are Phoenix, Leonardo, and Jackdaw. I use any pronouns and I am asexual.

I have numerous skin conditions, feet bones in the wrong place, and a really bad back at the moment, as well as chronic daily headaches . So uh. You could say that I am as fit as a fiddle, if the fiddle in question is the one in my garage, which has all its strings snapped.

I really enjoy reading, and have done since I was seven. I’m currently reading the reappearance of Rachel Price, as well as the Iliad. Some of my most favourite books include: the wizards of once, how to train your dragon, murder most unladylike, all about romance, Sherlock Holmes, and treasure island.

I’m also a writer, I’ve been working on this one story for five years now. Hopefully I’ll finish it one day. I write a lot of poetry.

I love mysteries and have been apart of numerous mystery solving groups, several founded by me.

I’m an artist, of course, and my top three mediums are pencil, watercolour, and digital. I’m not the best at digital tbh. I hate acrylic and acrylic hates me.

I usually do a lot of sports but right now because of my back I can’t do a few of them. I can still do swimming, archery, rounders (tragically:/), stand up paddle boarding, and roller booting. Because they don’t involve as much bending down.

I’m gay

I’m a part time goth, which is to say I listen to goth music (my favourites atm are fields of the Nephilim and all about Eve) but only sometimes dress goth, and in varying degrees of goth. I am the most inconsistently dressing person I know, and right now my catchphrase is ‘the duality of man’. For some reason.

Music wise I listen to a lot. One day I will truly be able to say that I listen to everything. But not yet. My most favourite band is the crane wives

I want to be a marine archaeologist when I’m older, or, failing that, a famous actor. Let’s be honest here, unless I do become a really famous actor, neither career path is likely to pay well. Marine archaeological, or maritime archaeology, is all about ships wrecks, and how cultures of the past interacted with the ocean and other bodies of water around it.

I like all the animals. Genuinely there is lot a single animal that I don’t like. Well- I’m not too keen on bugs but I wish them all the best, and may many of them please stay away. I have a severe phobia of moths, and slight arachnophobia that depends on how I’m feeling and what the spider is. Tarantula? No problem, big and hairy enough to be a kitten. Now let’s move away from it in case it sprays its hairs. Brown garden spider? Bloody Mary on a motor bike get it Away.

My attention span is low. I am a theatre kid. As I type this is have a musical going in the background.

Character opinion: Rachel?

Rachel is a character I have a duality of feelings about

On one hand, I love joking about how pathetic she is and would probably put her head in a toilet in real life, but also she’s such a well written and amazingly developed character that even though her appearance on screen has me wanting to choke her out, I also love seeing what she’s gonna do next.

Her feelings of inadequacy are extremely human, and seeing the envy and hatred that comes from it really gives me a unique perspective. I often find myself cursing the world for my situation and misfortune, but looking at Rachel, I realize that doing so won’t make my life any better. I have to actually take responsibility in my own hands and work for the future I want.

I think the moment I really started hating Rachel was during the Hidden Floor arc, and no, it’s not because she exploded Khun’s heart. It was her treatment of Yura. Yura had been unconditionally supporting her for months now and was the closest thing Rachel had to a friend, but instead she practically spits in her face by working with her brother’s murderer. She also then goes on to yell at Yura when she’s trying to comfort her, saying that Yura doesn’t go through hardship because she’s pretty. (Which she was forced to become because if she wasn’t a pretty idol, the Ha family would have murdered her)

This moment shows that Rachel doesn’t care about anyone but herself. Even someone who shows her unconditional friendship and does everything she can to support her is just another pawn to her. Yura deserves someone better than Rachel, and Rachel deserves to be kicked down to the bottom of the tower and sent to therapy to work on her self-image issues

Do yall ever think about the duality of Harvey Dent and Rachel Dawes?

Like, originally Harvey Dent was going to be in Batman Begins as Bruce’s childhood friend who grew up to be a lawyer, but then I guess Nolan created an original female character and gave her the same background and narrative purpose as Harvey to fulfill the film’s need for a lead female character and love interest for Bruce.

Then in the second movie they introduce Harvey, and he’s partners with and dating Rachel Dawes. Bruce never sees Harvey as a rival for Rachel. In fact, he sees him as the key to being with her. He thinks Harvey is a paragon of virtue who can eliminate the need for Batman and free him from the cowl so he can be with Rachel. But then Harvey and Rachel both get kidnapped, and both get blown up. Rachel dies and Harvey effectively dies by becoming Two-Face even before his actual death. Alfred hides the truth from Bruce that Rachel ultimately didn’t choose him so he can believe in a comforting lie while Bruce does the same to the people of Gotham by covering up Harvey’s crimes as Two-Face.

Rachel and Harvey are effectively two sides of the same coin. They are both objects of Bruce’s desire in a way. Where he wants Rachel straightforwardly as a romantic partner and Harvey as his replacement, both of them exist in his mind as the only beings who can free him from the burden of being Batman.

BRO THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD. they never cease to amaze me like fr. the duality between comedy and dealing with serious topics and arcs of its characters are just so great.

anyways, the more recent episodes of mythic quest have had me BAWLING. BRO. I HAVE NEVER FELT FOR DAVID BRITTLESBEE MORE IN MY LIFE. like i don’t really remember how the quote goes but GOD, it was so sad bro?? the way he just wanted to have christmas his way, but when he saw how poppy and ian do it and the others enjoying without him, he just felt helpless as if the two had done it on purpose. heart=broken

and ian and poppy agreeing that they did something sweet for each other?? like that was so wholesome bro, i love them so much (i am equally divided between a platonic ian&poppy or having them as a romantic couple do not judge me for that😔)

MY FAVOURITE PART IS WHEN THEY WERE SINGING AND JO WAS LIKE HUGGING POPPY FROM BEHIND AND THEY WERE SINGING HAPPILY TOGETHER AHHHHHHHHH.

Food: Spicy sweets. Mimi does enjoy sweets, but not when they are simply sweets. There needs to be a trick to it. Bitter coffee, alcohol, salt, pepper or something like that.

Eorzean Deity: Nald'thal. Azeyma would probably be the first association, but I like to think one step ahead for Mimi here. Because Nald'thal is also fire aspected, patron deity of Ul'dah and with his two-sided life/death theme it fits her. So it is indeed the duality of Nald'thal and not like he is worshipped in Ul'dah often separately. Due to the duality it probably might fit Mimi's own duality as well - being a tsun'dere.

Eorzean Element(s): Fire. She simply burns with emotions.

Drink: Coffee liquor. I might be a bit biased on this, because I simply love that myself. But I think it fits perfectly as a Thanalan beverage.

I find the "Marco gets starfish mitosis dual personalities instead of Rachel" AU So Good. (Let's ignore for a moment that it's Rachel's impulsiveness that gets her in the starfish situation in the first place and I don't think any of the Animorphs would do this--or, you know what, future!Marco did morph a lobster to get his keys out of the pool, maybe he would morph a starfish just for kicks)

So I thought about what personality lines the other Animorphs would split down. Marco and Rachel have the most obvious duality to them, or at least of "the enemy within" type that you can build a plot around.

Ax and Tobias have obvious duality to them too. It would be tempting to call the two Ax's "human Ax" and "andalite Ax," but really he's always an andalite and the real split is that of his role in the Animorphs versus his role among his people as an aristh. This tension is already what most of his books are about on one level or another.

Tobias also would be tempting to split into "hawk Tobias" and "human Tobias" but really it would be "Tobias the Animorph" versus "Tobias the suicidally depressed, unwanted bullied kid." MM4 Tobias. This is again, what a lot of Tobias' story is already about.

With Cassie the break is hard to pinpoint and with Jake it's almost even harder. With Cassie I think you would get "Cassie, friend to all living things" and "Cassie, doctor of moral philosophy." Kind of similar to Marco's thinking/feeling split and also similar to Rachel's "impulsiveness versus longterm planning" split. The Cassies would not be in as obvious conflict as any of the other Animorphs' split, but neither of them would be at all useful as Animorphs. Cassie #1 would be suicidally altruistic and Cassie #2 would be Chidi Anagonye.

Jake might actually be more interesting than I thought at first blush because I think he would split into Jake's leadersona and Jake-the-overwhelmed-kid. One would be a cross between a charicature of a general and ultimate dad friend (Think Captain America sitting in the chair backwards to tell you to get in the damn robot). One would be.... Paralyzed with indecision. This is way too big for him. He doesn't have the right to make these calls. Someone take this off this poor child's hands. Etc. "Always right" Jake versus "Always wrong" Jake.
