How she lost her first tooth running too fast and running into a low branch while out with Helen. How he'd sometimes wake up to Hermione leaning over him and poking his face to say, "Dad, can we go see the horses?" even though it was barely daylight. How she was much nicer waking Helen and how he thinks Hermione did that on purpose because she found "dad's face funny". How her favorite color was every color.

And Odysseus listens.

And he thinks about how his son only had a few teeth coming in when he left, teething on everything. How he could only say one syllable with his babbles. How his son needed balance to stand but Odysseus was so proud that Telemachus was very good at rolling over. How his son loved pulling at his and Penelope's hair.

How his son would be talking, walking, maybe even lost his first tooth by now. And he doesn't even know if he'll ever know his son's favorite color.

quinn's first roadie since you guys had been officially together was a long one and he didn't realise how much he would struggle to fall asleep without you there. the team hadn't had the best run, and to put it simply, he'd just missed coming home to you.

when you walk to the door to greet him, he's immediately collapsing into your arms and you're chuckling at how he can't get any words out, teasing "aw, did you miss me?" and he's just laughing into your shoulder and muttering a soft "yeah, a lot actually." he doesn't move for another good minute or so, but truth be told you missed him just as much if not more, so you're carding your fingers through his hair and just basking in the warmth of him, in no rush to move at all. and before you can say anything else he's picking you up by the waist and carrying you to the couch because it's suddenly occurred to him that you're still standing in the hallway and he's remembering he has the whole apartment again now.

he basically still hasn't said a word since he's walked in the door so you try and prompt him. "how was the trip?"

"was fine. what's new with work?"

you can tell he's deflecting but you let him, filling him in on what he's missed since the last time you talked, which was really not that long ago, but you tell him about it anyway, the recipes you've been trying, the new coworker that you already hate. you didn't think it was possible but you can feel him relax even more into you as you talk until he finally resurfaces from your neck. you're staring at the bruise on his nose he's picked up and tracing your fingertips over his cheekbones when a mumble finally pulls you out of your trance.

"thanks. missed the sound of your voice... it's not the same over the phone."

a soft smile finds its way onto your lips. "missed yours more, but you've only said about seven words since you've been back, q."

he groans and resumes his position with his face buried in your chest, which you wouldn't mind so much if he wasn't also crushing your bladder.

"ok well, this was nice but now i really gotta pee," you say as you start wriggling out from underneath him. "c'mon let's get you unpacked." he's protesting but he lets you escape, finally turning to properly look at you for the first time since he's gotten home.

"wait - is that my shirt?"

you only smile in response, "quinn c'mon, i'm being serious, my bladder's about to explode."

something about the way you're looking at him laying there - you, in one of his favourite tshirts that he was sad he forgot to take with him up until now, standing next to his couch in front of his tv in his living room, standing there waiting for him - he thinks can feel his heart falling into his stomach - but when you plead with him again and offer him your hand, he can see it falling right into your outstretched palm.

okay is anyone else getting incredibly sus at hero being the sole "chosen one" in light of fucked up oak family politics and season themes, like. spoilers below.

so as hero put it this ep (S2 E35), "the first child of the ones who summoned the doodler was supposed to be the one to bring balance back and solve the whole doodler thing." the lord of chaos, who summoned the doodler, is collectively lark and sparrow. post-deck of many things + rogue card, lark and sparrow are presented largely as hatred vs. love, respectively.

nick initially brings up the prophecy in S2 E30 in the context that hero, as the chosen one, is definitively "good" and that she got all the magical doodler bloodline benefits while normal is a "pleasant surprise" and gets nothing. that he is nothing. lark, sparrow, and rebecca told hero everything and have been training her since she was little, while normal stayed in the dark until recent events.

we also know from S2 E6 that lark had sex with rebecca during her and sparrow's engagement, although lark adds the caveat that he's not normal's dad, "it was a different time. it was not during the pregnancy." okay but hero's paternity is still kinda up in the air then, no? and hero alludes to that, with "our parents, and depending on how things worked out, your dad or my dad, kinda fucked up."

all i gotta say is. with a thematic emphasis on love vs. hate (including the whole destroying doodler anchors with love vs. hate mechanic), the specific prophecy wording of "bringing balance" rather than "defeating/destroying the doodler," and the questionable paternity of hero and normal.

what if.

lark is hero's dad—a kid from the twin representing hate. sparrow is normal's dad—a kid from the twin representing love. and they're the chosen two, balancing good and evil, love and hate.

(disclaimer this is a half-baked theory and i don't feel that either character solidly represents love vs. hate at this point, tho it may be too early to tell with hero OR the whole point is that no one is entirely characterized by one feeling.)

one thing that is always just, so peculiar to me, is the difference between how the media handled patrick's weight loss

i wasn't online back in 2011 so i don't really know how fans collectively responded, but it seems like the majority of fans have since looked at losing that much weight so fast and, to put it lightly, "implied/referenced eating disorder" feels like it's entered unofficial fall out boy lore

but the media. the media praised him,asked questions about how. the media wanted to talk about the weight loss more than the music.

First of all I really LOVE your blogue it is my little refuge, I have a question so I consider my self to be a big fan of Greek mythology and the Ancient Greek world and I’ve been wanting to read the Iliad for years now but I don’t know which translation should I go with and it’s supper overwhelming so could you please recommend one where Patroclus and Achilles are dissected as lovers and not as some Good friends or worst Cousins

Hello friend and patrochilles stan!

I’ll be up front and state that I don’t particularly care for The Iliad. I started reading it back in January 2023 and haven’t gotten past Book 10. And I read about 150 books a year, so it’s not for a lack of trying. It’s just not for me 🤷‍♀️

A friend recommended The War Nerd Iliad by John Dolan when they noticed my struggles. Part of me thinks it’s supposed to be satire, but I actually think it does a good job at capturing The Iliad as a form of entertainment material per the time of Homer. There’s no patrochilles 😢 But if you’re like me and you want to better understand the plot, then I recommend this “transladaption.”

I’ve been recommended the Caroline Alexander translation by several folks on here. I’ve seen a few describe it as the most pro-patrochilles yet. It’s the one I’m currently reading (please don’t take my lack of enjoyment as a bad review -that’s just me).

A lot of people have been raving about Emily Wilson’s translation. I’ve skimmed it. The language is very pretty. If you want a translation that’s more “poem” like, then this translation is a solid choice. It’s very pro-patrochilles.

The classic translation, which is unfortunately not pro-patrochilles, is Lattimore. The passages that I’ve skimmed (looking for patrochilles) really pull you into 1250 BCS. It does a good job at embracing elements of drama.  

Not a translation but a masterpiece of an adaptation is The Age of Bronze. Very explicitly pro-patrochilles.

I have seen a similar ask going around and it has some really excellent patrochilles resources. And some more here. Check those out for sure.

Final note that I just gotta add in cause I’m a bitch like that: Don’t put Homer on a pedestal. I think it’s cool that you’re exploring mythology, but don’t think you gotta suck Homer’s dick. He has a lot of value from the perspective of historians and related fields, but that’s about it. Case in point: No one can decide who he is; No one can decide who wrote the Iliad; There is evidence to suggest that he didn’t actually create the plot of the Iliad, he was just the one who wrote it down and had copies survive; and His work is full of anachronisms. So from a fan perspective (which I think more people need to acknowledge that they're just simple fans and not academics), my takeaway from all this is that he’s just the first to put his headcanons down on paper. And just because he was the first, it doesn’t mean that his headcanons are more legit than yours or mine or Shakespear or Miller. Enjoy Homer in the same way you enjoy random hc posts on Tumblr or fics on AO3. Don’t give him the canon treatment. Respect him, but do it with a heavy dose of salt like at least a teaspoon.
