Concept art for Wittewife (Whisper Clawthorne) and the brothers in my AU ('Twixt Tar and Feathers), as well as how I'd draw them in canon. Background from the show. (At least, I think it is. I found it here. I’ll see if I can find the official source of it in the morning.)
Philip is about twelve here, and Caleb is about eighteen. Whisper is about a year older than Caleb (nineteen).

I've had this idea for quite a while, like, since Labyrinth Runners I believe, but Hunter getting any kind of job where he works with kids, especially with troubled kids or those with special needs. Hunter working at Hexside cause it's the place where he met his first friends, the only place he had a positive connection to after running away from the Emperor's coven.
Hunter choosing to through the education and training for those jobs because he's disabled, neurodivergent and has tons of childhood trauma himself and he just wants to give kids the help and support he needed himself but either never got or got it very late. He actively strives to be the person his younger self needed, because he doesn't want anyone else to go through what he did if he can help it.
No matter what exact profession I settle on, maybe some kind of counselor or school aide, either way he helps Bat Queen organise Palisman adoption events, because Flapjack was the catalyst to him breaking away from his prison, what enabled him some level of independence so he actually had a chance to get away, his first experience with actual unconditional love and care, and he wants to give that to others.
So this ended up spiraling into an entire au with shenanigans.
You heard of the Owl House, now get ready for
The Cardinal lounge

Why hasn't Evelyn told Caleb about her being a witch if they're been dating for a couple of years already? Surely she realizes that that vast, vast, vast majority of humans aren't witch-hunters?
Most of this is gonna be covered in the comic, but a few reasons. 1, his brother is the only person in all of anywhere who thinks witchhunting is a good plan. She doesn't think Caleb shares that mindset, but it makes telling him... weird at the least, dangerous at the worst. 2, even if he doesn't outright want to kill her, she's scared it might be weird enough to make him want to break up with her. She's not human, she's from another dimension, and, worst of all, she's been hiding all that from him. That last part obviously gets more and more daunting the longer she hides it, unfortunately. Finally, telling him about her witch life means eventually... telling him about the Cardinal Beast. Even if being a witch doesn't turn him off, the giant feathery monster that can and does eat people probably will (at least, that's what she figures). Telling him she's a witch is opening up that door, and it's a door she wants TIGHTLY shut and locked.

For the wing au, since male and female birds are usually differently colored, do you think some trans people dye their wings to better reflect their gender? I. Have been thinking about this for too long.
you are SO right anon have I not talked about this before??? shame on me I've thought abt this SO MUCH
yes, yes, there's plenty of dyes out there, and especially some who sell more natural-looking dyes. some are made to already mimic more intricate patterns, others have tutorials on how to perfect dyeing certain markings. not everyone chooses for natural colors, of course, and some just go for any bold colors they like, or will put in the colors reflecting their gender, but enunciate them to a purposeful degree to be eye-catching. there's all kinds!
fake feathers also exist. usually placed in-between preexisting feathers, usually to make them look prettier, even if they're uncomfortable. for birds with significant difference in feather length, particularly with tails, these are sold in high abundance. tails can either be straps attached to a person and lain overtop their tails to make it look different/longer, or the feathers are treated much like regular fake ones. for those who want shorter feathers, there's illusion magic or simply snipping them shorter and then overlaying it with other tail colors
trans hunter rights, he dyes his feathers red a lot. luckily female cardinals have a decent number of their own red feathers, so he's not dyeing all his feathers

Since people are all apparently very invested in toh's messages about ableism at the moment, and Sergeantsporks mentioned me in the discussion, I'm gonna talk about Cardinal lounge au a bit.
A very much known thing about Hunter is that he wants to help, but a subtle yet big part of his character is how he doesn't want others to go through the same suffering he endured. This is seen in the way he comforts and supports Gus at the end of the finale, and I always had a feeling that part of the reason Hunter was so dedicated to being the Golden guard is cause he wanted to protect the people of the Boiling isles from suffering the same thing he thought his family did due to wild magic. He fought wild magic cause he wanted to make sure nobody else got cursed or their families killed in a horrible accident. But of course it turns out Belos took that desire to protect and exploited it for vile purposes through lies and limiting his view of the world through the narrow slits of a mask.
So after canon, that desire ends up turning into him becoming a counselor and disability-activist kind of figure. He wants to give children the safe space and support and way to get out of a bad situation that he either never got or got very late. Part of the reason he was trapped with Belos is the ableism on the isles towards the magically disabled, making it practically impossible to survive on your own, so this is undoubtedly happening to others. So he wants to create a support system where people will have other options for survival, and won't be forced to rely on their abusers for survival or even be made to do things they don't agree with, with no escape in sight because nobody is willing to help you or even give you a job to survive.
Since Hunter was a key participant of the Hexside rebellion, he generally saw the school as a safe space for himself, both cause the school staff are generally accepting of him since they witnessed his rebellion firsthand, but also because Hexside was at the time of him first running away, in his own words, the only safe place he could think of, meaning this is one of the first places he ever felt safe in.
It's also implied he holds respect for the school faculty there in general, not only cause of his inherent respect for authority, but also likely since they stood with their students, cared for their wellbeing, as well as fought by their side for what was right. Not to mention Bump is very willing to make school reforms for the greater good and to fix systems that have been harming people, so there is no doubt in my mind that Bump would work with Hunter in order to provide accesible education to those that were denied it due to their magical disabilities, so they finally have a proper chance at life.
As another user said, Hunter can be a voice for powerless witches, and bring awareness to the hard situation society traps them in due to their ableism. Hunter can make sure that others like him have a chance to escape earlier than he did, that they have somewhere to run to once they can, so that nobody is doomed from the start like he seemingly was.

Gazes at you so sweetly... Tell us of the au! 🐈‍⬛
OKAY so its like a kinda generic Role Swap idea with Belos and Caleb, right? But the thing is, it's not so cut and dried as that as everyone else has pretty much the same role, or one very adjacent to canon. The idea is what if Philip and Caleb got lost in the Demon Realm while they were still children?
Philip, struggling to be accepted by the populous of Gravesfield, follows the first sign of witchcraft he can. That ends up being a teen-aged Evelyn who isn't supposed to be in the human world. Ultimately, Caleb is the one who chases after his brother in hopes of saving him from the grasps of a witch. When he finally finds his brother, he realizes that they are both trapped in this unfamiliar land, and he ends up blaming Evelyn for it.
The search for a way home is similar bout now Caleb and Philip are a united, albeit younger, front. A key incident involved a Crab Maiden and her guardian while they were at Bonesborough. The Crab Maiden shows Philip how to use magic without having been born in the Demon Realm through the use of a light glyph. However, the guardian begins to act strangely, with the added oddity of feathers and fangs. Ultimately, the woman ends up busting Philip's nose and severely injuring his arm before vanishing. Caleb ends up hiding the extent of his injury and his resentment of witches grows, while Philip is left with an intense interest in finding more glyphs and understanding the demon realm.
When Caleb's arm becomes fatal if he leaves it, he replaces it with one made of palistrom wood, binding it to his body with what he doesn't know is Titan's blood. The entire altercation has made him fearful for the survival of his brother and himself. He vows that he will find a way to return to the human realm no matter what. Even if it means finding a way to keephis brother frozen in time while he works. Even if it means cultivating Grimwalkers from the remnants of his arm.
Even if it means bringing the Isles to ruin. After all, it's residents have proven time and time again that they aren't worth sparing. They're dangerous, just like the people of Gravesfield said.
He just needs to live long enough to see this through.

A ['Twixt Tar and Feathers AU] Masterpost
Also known/tagged as "Good Belos AU". Dividers from here
Tumblr media
'Twixt Tar and Feathers is an AU for The Owl House, centered mainly around the idea that Belos and Eda are the very people they're commonly perceived as in canon. Emperor Belos Wittebane is the savior of the Boiling Isles, having united them under a single ruler and establishing the Coven System for their own safety; Edalyn Clawthorne is a dangerous wild witch that terrorizes the Western Arm of the Boiling Isles.
There are three different main storylines that take place in this AU:
The Gilded Castle The main story, set during the timeframe of the canon series. It follows Hunter Wittebane as the main protagonist, with Luz Noceda serving as the deuteragonist.
A Tale of Blood and Brothers Emperor Belos' backstory, sequel to The Cardinal and The Blue Jay, and prologue to The Gilded Castle. Belos Wittebane features as the main protagonist.
The Cardinal and The Blue Jay The story of Caleb and Philip Wittebane, and how they found themselves in the Demon Realm. Prologue to The Gilded Castle. Caleb Wittebane serves as the main protagonist, with Philip Wittebane as the deuteragonist.

Cardinal Lounge au Hunter, as the school aide (gonna refer to him as that until I finally settle on a specific profession for him) is terrified of somehow messing up the kids' formative development cause he didn't have a normal childhood and he doesn't want that to bleed into how he treats the kids.
It gets to the point that he'll do something that isn't even a mistake per say, it just kind of reminds him of Belos, and he immediatelly has a freakout and once he's home he burrows into his bedding pile absolutely crushed at having apparently ruined a child's development.
