Random thoughts about the tower in Gotham Knights.
Does it make anyone else think of the clock tower above the police station, from the 90's Gargoyles cartoon? Almost like hiding in plain sight, etc? No one goes up there (supposedly). Except for Turner and Stephanie (except for Elisa Maza) and all that jazz.
Stephanie (or Carrie? Both?) could rig the security cameras or whatever, so the Brat Pack could use the rest of the building after hours/when no-one else is around and stuff.
Yes, I wanted to watch this because of Misha, but also because I miss being a Batman fan the way I was with the 90's cartoon. There are vibes from shows of my childhood in GK, as far as aesthetic, musical scoring, set and costume design goes and I'm so excited for the rest of the series!
Keeping fingers crossed for a second season, already. 🤞🏼

St. Elmo's Fire (1985) 8/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fresh out of college, seven friends navigate the intimidating, freeing, and sexy world of being an adult, and life after post secondary. But not without a few heartbreaks, bumps, and mishaps along the way.
This film features a few members of the Brat Pack, some of which you'll know from The Breakfast Club in my last post. These members in this are Rob Lowe, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, and Judd Nelson. (There's a few more that I'm missing, but I'm referring to St. Elmo's Fire, specifically)
Young adults can definitely relate to this movie, even though it's very dated. The struggles of being out of high school or college, and trying to figure out who you are, and what you want, are topics covered relentlessly in this film. But they also show the more exciting side of being an adult, such as going out clubbing, and drinking alcohol (legally and responsibly, I hope). But it also emphasizes that it's okay if you're lost in life, and don't know what you want to do.
Friendships are also shown here, another thing the movie touches on. The friendships you have are important, and to keep the friends that make you a better person and allow you to grow. There's also one sided pining as well.
This isn't really a film to watch if you're still in high school, for example. Maybe not until grade ten, but eleven and twelfth, sure. It just wouldn't be understood too well at that point. But I feel like, in a way, everyone can relate to this film, not knowing what you want to do in life, and feeling like you're lost.
The plot is good, although Emilio Estevez's character Kirby Keager is kind of extreme. He's literally obsessed with a girl who barely has any idea who he is, and tries to get with her. Demi Moore's Jules has it all-the nice apartment, the good job, the parties- and is also a very sweet and sassy friend. Mare Winningham's Wendy Beamish is a wealthy girl, but also in love with Billy. Andrew McCarthy plays Kevin Dolenz, a writer for a newspaper who can be kind of withdrawn and sullen. Rob Lowe plays Billy Hicks, a husband and father, who can't quite break away from college life yet. Ally Sheedy is Leslie Hunter, who is an architect, and Judd Nelson plays Alex Newbury, who is pursuing a career in politics.
Despite their mishaps, they all get along and reconcile when it's needed. It's a heartfelt, tough, and funny movie. I feel like you would watch this on a rainy day, with nothing to do, it has that vibe to it.

We started not with the teenagers, but a Norfolk couple returning home to their broken-in house. Knight and Kasie trying to outdo each other with their sleep schedules was funny- also I really liked Knight’s hair. It was weird how Johnny and Morgan apparently don’t go to the same preschool (?), and the Zorro reference was amusing, as was Parker killing the vibe with more work. The bullpen scene the morning after the case was hilarious, especially because of McGee’s worries about Morgan, but the mood was quickly soured by the Norfolk hack. The mom watching her kid in Interrogation was funny, as was the kid spilling his guts and McGee and Knight’s reactions. McGee introducing himself to Teagan and her being sassy was hilarious, but her insulting Noah and her use of modern slang wasn’t- it was just rude and cringy. It was great how quickly she and McGee bonded, and we learned Knight moved around the world as a kid too. We got Gibbs’ Rules references with #39 and #62, made by Parker, no less. The vets flirting with Parker was creepy harassment, and the lieutenant’s AI was seriously scary. McGee getting Teagan to open up was really sweet, and all the talk of Jayden made him an obvious suspect. Kasie bragging about her scores was hilarious, as was the incredibly out-in-the-open illegal arms deal. Parker’s quips in Interrogation were great, but Teagan lying to McGee and becoming a suspect wasn’t. Parker connecting the dots made for a great couple tense and exciting scenes. The reveal Teagan and Jayden never met in-person was a twist I honestly didn’t see coming (but probably should’ve), and Knight struggling with the tech was amusing, as was Parker’s ‘get her in the van’ comment. McGee having to let down Teagan was a really sad moment that turned cool with her hacking skills, and of course Teagan’s catfish was a stereotypical creepy guy. Her reuniting with her mom was sweet, as was the end phoof.
Pretty much the entire episode was filled with meta references and callbacks to earlier episodes, and I loved it. It was great how we learned more about McGee’s home life and parenting methods, and overall it was a sweet episode with great acting and writing.
