Video
youtube
this video is wild. even if you don’t want to watch the entire thing, the conclusion is really good and really highlights some of the issues faced in game preservation and the failure to recognize contributions and properly credit artists that work on these games.
#this video is fun he really spirals after the first section#but im certain there are plenty of people like tommy tallarico out there that just arent as stupidly vocal as him#and the way tiktok uses sound effects or uncredited clips as well as games like fortnite stealing dances#so it's not just singular people but also entire companies and corporations that do this kind of shit#idk this is kind of gaming related so. here you go#i know it's like 2hrs but it is really interesting and again even if u just skip to the conclusion he makes some interesting points#basically this guy tommy tallarico is trying to claim he created the roblox oof sound#but he didnt. lol. and then he finds out that this guy has lied about a whole bunch of other gaming shit#and steals credit from a lot of artists along the way#and is just. A Liar and a weirdo#but again i think there are definitely far more tommy tallaricos out there particularly in the gaming industry#where crediting has always been..... questionable at best#and especially lately i feel. there has been a huge uptick in plagiarism in indie games and even IF games#and in book publishing. watched a video the other day that was a review of a book that was literally just#fanfic. and was NOT edited enough to remove the blatant plagiarism that comes with trying to publish literal fanfic lol#i mean publishing fanfic has always been a Thing but it definitely feels like it's gotten far more blatant recently#and it feels that people just. don't care? especially again in indie spaces whether gaming or publishing#i mean there's a whole genre of indie horror games that are just 'asset flips'#that are usually made in a rush to profit off another game's success#and there's nothing wrong with using premade assets if you.... Credit them. but these games dont do that lol#and again are usually stealing the storyline of another more popular game#and again. publishing fanfic... liike...... it's questionable and can easily just become plagiarism#anyways. just something to think about i guess ! if nothing else the video is funney#video#personal

Fargo made me watch my man Winnie the Bish die, which was devastating, BUT what a damn good season, what a damn good finale!

imo middle grade horror is scarier as an adult not (just) because it involves a lot of child endangerment but because you have a more grounded understanding of just how much the adults in the kids’ lives are failing to help (regardless of their intention/investment)
like, reading a spooky story as a kid and recognizing how scary the world can be and how misunderstood you feel is one thing. reading it as an adult and seeing yourself in the other adults in the story failing to help or even actively perpetuating harm unlocks whole new layers of existential terror

It’s interesting the way that I, as a trans person, put SO much more emphasis on chosen names than my cis coworkers, particularly in the sense of being VERY careful to call people what they preferred to be called.
I’m a HUGE stickler about getting names right, spelling them correctly, using appropriate nicknames, respecting name changes, etc. when it comes to my historical research. Names are important and meaningful and respecting them is crucial to me.

that familiar feeling of being so close to the end of something you really love and not wanting to continue because that means that it will end but you keep going because you love this thing so much and you want to see it through to the end.

Someone had to mention it, but yeah, the entire Court of Owls storyline is antisemitic. Like, Bruce being judged by the Court draws straight from a Passion play, complete with a little girl ordering to "make him hurt". (In this reading Batman and Jesus are "one of the good ones".) In Dark Nights: Metal, also by Snyder, the Court is also known as the Judas tribe. Most recently they used mind control, a spell often attributed to Jews by antisemites, on Dick.
It’s been a while since I read the original Court of Owls storyline from the New 52 & I never read Dark Knights: Death Metal, so I’m not familiar with some of the plot points your referencing. That being said, if everything you mentioned squares with what happens in those books, then it definitely sounds like Scott Snyder has a pattern of writing antisemitic tropes into his comic book storylines, unconsciously or not
#i’m not going to tag the specific storylines here because i don’t remember them well enough to verify#also i’m not sure what storyline anon is referring to with the mind control part at the end#i would just like to point out that dick is roma & not jewish but maybe i’m missing context here for what you meant#also i’m not jewish so i’m far from the best person on this site to have a discussion with about antisemitism in comics#there are plenty of jewish comic fans on here that speak up about things like this#and have the cultural background & experiences to give good analysis & explain how these kind of tropes connect to real-life antisemitism#i didn’t want to leave this anon unanswered because i think this is an important area for comic book criticism#and i don’t think it gets anywhere near the level of discussion it deserves in comics fandom#anyway just don’t talk me as an authority on this please defer to jewish comic fans comfortable talking about these issues etc.#and for context to anyone else seeing this since i answered this a little late this is about the new gotham knights game#where they’re making jacob kane a jewish character be the leader of the court of owls#a secret organization that controls gotham from the shadows & is part of a larger international organization that controls the whole world#which relates to antisemitic conspiracy theories about jewish people controlling the media the banks and the world at large#*don’t take me as an authority#answered#antisemitism

The greatest curse of Us, without a doubt, is the... us-centrism of the fact that we are Us and no one else. Our view on the world is limited and we are frequently subject to the logical fallacy of The Curse Of Knowledge and we're even more frequently beset upon by the fact that some people, like, are Genuinely Averse to depictions of things they've Dealt With themselves.
Like, what do you mean you're talking about this thing as a reason that this media sucks? What do you mean you actively avoid media that depicts things you went through? Do you not gain that feeling of connection from watching people go through something similar to what you did? Do you lack the feelings that are so easy to conjure up in a strong way from seeing a character dealing with the Same Damn Shit? Do you not look at art to feel things?
#this is a very long winded way to say that we got a media recommendation from a callout post again#we speak#“this media contains depictions of medical abuse and nonconsensual surgery and it puts heavy emphasis on these things”#“it highlights this transplanted thing and the difference from his body constantly”#and we're nodding along like “oh yeah sounds awesome”#and then they hit us with “i don't know why they thought this was appropriate for a family friendly franchise"#“other than the sheer ignorance of the developers about disabled peoples' medical experiences”#like HUH??? WHAT??? do you think that people only include fucked up shit that also happens to real people out of ignorance???#like. even ignoring the obvious “people can create depictions of real and fucked up stuff and that is in no way inherently bad” thing#have you never seen half of the family friendly things in the past decade? did you not read books as a kid? have you never revisited like#any kind of childhood books or games or movies or anything???#theres fucked up shit in kids media all the time! we'll go so far as to say that there should be MORE fucked up shit in kids media#because you need! to actually learn shit exists and figure out how to deal with it! and the earlier you can figure it out the better!#and even ignoring that like. its an AUTONOMY ISSUE. which is the one thing that kids will probably be able to connect to best!#because the single problem that kids and disabled fucks like us have in common the most is lack of autonomy!#a kid will be able to understand and connect with this issue because they have spent their lives surrounded by people#who sign them up to have things done with their bodies without first asking permission from them#who will have things done for them because they're kids and in their eyes cannot be trusted to make decisions of their own#even ignoring that disabled kids exist too and will be able to understand like. most of them will be able to recognize that kinds thing#theyre kids. they arent stupid. they can see this and relate to it as having problems Like Them but slightly more exaggerated#and maybe we're a bit opinionated about this but like#we're disabled! every word on this screen only makes us want to check this out because hey! sounds like the kind of shit we'd like!#we are VISCERALLY FAMILIAR with the kind of shit that people go through because guess what! we've been in the pits too!#we can appreciate the content warning for what its worth but the tone and the way youre saying it is just#look. we're sorry you didn't like it. different strokes for different folks and et cetera. what can help one person can harm another.#acting like medical abuse is a subject that should never be depicted in media for anyone but Mature Adults(tm) or whatever is just#bad#not to have opinions on childrens media but LACK of disabled people and such in media very much fucked us up more than them existing#let the kids have their medical abuse narrative and maybe itll give them a point to connect or get through something of their own#because let us tell you. having points to compare to? having even a fictionalized depiction to relate to?

another highlight of dnd:
ranger beheaded a guy (this is a not very agreed upon action by a few party members, including fang). she's getting ready to bury him, fang goes over to... pay respects? something?
she cautions that beheadings are pretty gruesome, and fang just offhandedly replies, "I've seen limbs being ripped off" to be like "i literally have already seen this shit, it's w/e"
except. i said. "rimbs being lipped off"
and i had to pause. and be like. "... let's try that again" sdlkfjslkdfj kind of ruined the serious of the scene for a bit
#speculation nation#d&d#fang#it sure was. something!#it's like. well. ranger did this bc she thought it was the best course of action for our safety#paladin Strongly Disagreed. started storming off (but fang went after her to convince her to not Completely leave)#fang was... disturbed by it. but More unhappy that the ranger did this w/o talking to anyone about it first#the other two didnt seem to truly care. which honestly tracks as far as party reactions go.#fang had... kind of a weird reaction to this tbh. trying to rationalize it to himself. compartmentalize.#trying his best to not fall apart and cling to what pieces of connections he's managed to gather.#but also. this was the dude that tried to steal from him. & he major overreacted & tried to apologize to him#and... now he's dead. and fang's kinda in shock of that tbh.#he worked hard last session to make sure this guy got out of the zombie situation alive. and then suddenly he was dead.#fang didnt like the dude. but he saw some parts of himself in him. & knew he was ultimately not malicious.#so he went to. pay respects in a way. while also talking to the ranger about why she did this#and why theyre so unhappy she did it w/o talking to the group first.#back when we first met him. this dude tried to steal fang's comic book. something of deep sentimental value to fang#he learned how to read with this thing. it means a lot to him.#and... in this moment. the best way to carry on this guy's memory. was to... connect the two things#fang took the book out. didnt have a pen or anything. so he just... dipped his finger in this guy's blood & started to draw#drawing on the inside of the front cover his best rendition of this guy's face#permanently staining something that is from a tender memory with a frankly kind of gruesome dedication of remembrance.#when asked what he was doing & why he was using Blood. fang replied that blood holds a person's essence in a way#and what better way to remember someone than to carry their blood in their image forever more?#considering he literally wears the fang of his distant relative on a necklace at all times as a reminder to himself / a token#he kinda... is just like this. he really kinda is a creepy guy sometimes. comes with the shadow soul sorcerer thing i guess#me realizing fang wanted to immortalize this guy in some way and being like 'oh geeze this is gonna b kinda fucked up. sorry guys'#b4 describing him literally drawing on his sentimental comic book with this guy's blood. like . ok#additionally. the ranger is the person he had that whole 'if i turn evil pls kill me' convo with#a part of him is going like 'man she really Will kill me if it comes down to it huh?' & like. there's relief to that

rolls in here! while lurk on the dash & work on drafts / starters, I've been thinking about Ari's verses & I think that I will keep her Visionless in her Genshin verse 🥺 I'm not creative enough to think of a way for Ari to reasonably " obtain " her Vision, but the main reason is because I think it's absolutely 100× more precious to write her being amazed by the abilities that Vision users have instead 🥺🌷
for her PJO verse, however, I've decided ( with help & encouragement from @badboysupr ! 🥪 ) that it makes more sense for Ari to be a child of DEMETER, therefore making her a demi - God which is so funny to write out aodmdkdk
not only is it fitting, but I think it helps make any possible interactions in the verse a lot easier & also makes way more sense that my initial idea 👍thanks to everyone who helped me sort this out ! verses are my worst enemy 👀

i have... a penchant... for getting really into books which are out of print. not cause they’re like first editions or collectibles or whatever the fuck (i went to an antique book show recently and was SO pissed there was like 50 Alice in Wonderlands, but no 1900 printed french books you couldn’t even find in pdfs online... in fact, no foreign language books at all what the fuck :c... and 2 gone with the winds, 50 lord of the rings... like i get it, the target audience of an antique show is maybe? idk people collecting expensive books? but for me? the point was to find out of print old books that may never have been digitized. thank the universe for archive.org there’s so many 1800s learn japanese, 1900s learn chinese books with different versions of romanization and then later different amounts of character simplification, theres the ‘nature method’ textbooks that i’ve only seen back in print very recently and only for a few languages and probably only cause nerds like me can’t shut up about them, there’s so many BOOKS i’m into that just... :c good fucking luck finding them if not for the kind efforts of archivists or random chance)
#rant#like. god even kamikaze girls??? a RECENT novel. a novel with a MOVIE#and its like... seems to have only had one print run or whatever#u can find it used. sometimes. thats it#and like ive been trying to find novalas other novels? hhaha i cant even find them used. they're out of stock.#and then like. there's this AMAZING japanese book called Japanese in 40 Hours.#a HERO made a video series of the chapters on youtube i recommend looking at it. and its on archive.org thank fuck#but its basically i think the BEST sparksnotes basic primer for western speakers to begin learning japanese#its quick. it gives a solid foundation of grammar and word endings before throwing u into kana. and its faster paced then a LOT of modern#books ive used.#theres a chinese book called Chinese Grammar by the Nature Method.#i believe the author is Thimm. it was published in like 1929. it is all#traditional characters. its like 300 very compact pages. its a very beautiful small book.#it has a HUGE hanzi dictionary in the back. it is THOROUGH in its grammar explanations and SO easy to understand.#its my favorite chinese grammar book by far. and the sheer VOLUME of words in it#make it a good overall book#not just for grammar but also words. the only weird thing is the old romanization system but once u recognize the hanzi u can#match them to modern pinyin you know better. and just? it is SUCH a good book#even with the outdated bits (like NIN used a lot and le pronounced liao in a lot of spots we'd now use le)#and its out of print. its another book i think i found on archive.org then wanted a print copy of
