sure! so, disclaimer, i have seen barbie (2023) three times now, and have been playing "what was i made for?" basically on repeat and sobbing. and y'all know i love nancy angst, so. it was kind of bound to happen.

it started with a conversation with sen (@fragilecapric0rnn) about literally just nancy and the song "what was i made for?" and thinking about nancy in the aftermath of everything (btw, you should read this post by sen bc it's SO, so good) and in the aftermath of everything....what is nancy made for?

(an excerpt from our convo abt it lol):

and then also something abt nancy trying to find her place in the world, her purpose in this world. because what is her purpose if not to solve mysteries and kill monsters? what does she do in the in between? she doesn’t want to kill monsters anymore. she doesn’t want to see them, to think about them. but without it, who is she? what was she made for?

my thought process though is basically: what does nancy do in the in-between? who is she in-between another apocalypse and who is she in the aftermath? and then (as in, the last 30 mins) i've been thinking about maybe expanding it into the "seasons" of nancy's life. losing barb to the guilt to her job at the newspaper to leading the charge in s4 and just exploring those realms. especially nancy and the newspaper and that talk with karen in s3 where she's like, "you're a fighter, nance." because she is a fighter, but what happens when the fight is gone? when the danger is gone? she's been living in survival mode for what? almost three years in the canon timeline? so when there is no danger for her to throw herself into, what happens? what's her purpose now? (there's also the mothers and daughters quote from barbie 2023 that i think would work wonderfully here with nancy and karen. so it's about mothers and daughters, too, ya know? especially in the mid-80s)

truthfully i'm not sure if i want to make this a ronance thing, either, or just a character study of nancy. i always love nancy coming to terms with liking girls after coming down from her survival mode instincts, and being okay with herself, finding some calmness in it and some sense of herself, instead of what others perceive her to be. so maybe there will be ronance, maybe nancy will be figuring herself out and it just starts out as a crush on robin. who's to say.

and of course there's always nancy and barb angst. this is what i have written in my notes:

she visits barb. her grave. talks to a body that isn't there, but some part of her hopes that wherever barb is, she can hear nancy. "i don't know if i know how to go back to normal. i haven't been normal in years, i don't know what that means for me anymore."

so yeah... sorry this got a little out of hand, but!! this is basically the thought process so far 😅

you tell steve ONE TIME that his stubble is scratching your skin when you kiss and at every moment he can find, he's rubbing his cheek against yours like a cat just to annoy you. and then the next morning when you've woken up with a beard burn mark all over your face he walks in clean-shaven like :( who could have done that to my baby :( lemme at them :(

omg just like a cat, ur so right, it’s one of those things he does after he gives u a kiss :) he’ll give you a kiss and just buries his face in your neck after, nosing along your face in a way that almost nuzzling :) and makes a content like hmmr every time :) and u love it a lot actually, until he gets stubble. and like ur ever gonna complain about that— when he has a shadow of it across his jaw, just coming in it’s actually downright sinful how good he looks and your thoughts usually end up thinking about how the scrape of it would feel between your thighs- but!! it’s less good for kisses :( he’s all scratchy now, even just when giving a peck, but even more so when he does his lil rub up — so u gotta tell him :( “stevie,” you’re pouting a bit bcos you don’t rlly want him to shave it, or discourage his nuzzles in anyway but ur honest to god getting sanded away here. “s’too scratchy,” you say, tugging him back from you just an inch during a lazy kiss on ur bed. in an instant, he’s frowning, peering down at you and trying to figure out what you mean. you just let your thumbs rub over the edge of his jaw, caressing the rough stubble there and you can see steve’s eyes light up when he gets it! but instead of being a lovely caring considerate boyfriend, steve just grins a bit too mischievously and comes back in, rubbing all up your cheek on purpose this time, the bastard :( u can’t even be mad, the scratchy tickling feeling makes u laugh and steve does the most to rub his stubble against u. and ofc, the next morning when ur reaping the consequences of his actions, he’s all clean shaven and smooth in the face — but so mean to u :( pretending it wasn’t his fault u have irritated skin like oh baby, who did this :( who scratched up my honey :( while dotting a dozen kisses over his own work!! the bastard!! you can’t find it in yourself to be annoyed bcos when he proposes to fight the guy who did this to u, it makes u proper belly laugh and stevie just looks so very in love so it’s all worth it :’)

hi hi hi! okay. this post might be a little long cause i've got a lot to say.. i kinda want to analyze miss wheeler for ya, if that's alright?

so, to start, a few things about rockstar rob!au nancy:

she's a rookie journalist working at the hawkins post's entertainment department;

hates her job cause she shares it w like a bunch of old dudes that have Zero respect for her (and also because she set her dreams of leaving hawkins back because of some family problems, and being at the post just reminds her of everything she couldn't accomplish);

took the job cause she wanted to make things right and make sure the article about robin didn't have a misogynistic view nor was filled with lies (that she knew, for a fact, the post would try to go for, cause their only source of income for the entertainment department is making up stories about the Two people that left hawkins and got famous aka steve and robin)

ok! with that set, let's get to ronance.

because of the tour and how close she got to robin, even before their relationship was official, nancy experienced her fair share of paparazzi and celebrity drama from the side. having their journey from the concert venue back to the tour bus delayed because the security guards had to deal with the amount of cameras waiting for robin outside, reading through a bunch of articles (the good ones and the bad ones – comments harassing robin and talking about their looks, their voice, their "relationship" with steve) and talking about the public attention with robin during their sessions. robin would mention some of her biggest struggles, and how part of the public invalidated their sexuality, identity and overall being.

and knowing that being involved with someone famous requires having your name talked about, even for a little bit, and being somewhat of a "public" person, nancy (and robin) knew they had every reason and right to try and be secretive for a while. at least until nancy felt comfortable with the idea of being a couple in public – since it's like coming out to the entire world, and having the entire world acknowledge who and what you are in a way people that aren't public don't have to experience.

so, as long as they're a secret, nancy thinks she can live her life. they kiss behind closed doors and pretend to be acquaintances, friends on the outside. only the tour production and a few close friends know about them; they don't hide their affection as long as it's not visible to the public eye. they almost got caught a few times, even, and every single time makes nancy's heart jump, fear crippling down her spine and leaving goosebumps behind. as much as the adrenaline of having to hide is enticing to them for a while, the whole thing also leaves them exhausted and frustrated with everything they wish they could do.

it takes a while for nancy to fight her demons and face her fears, but, after the tour ended and they had to go long distance for a few months, and seeing how she couldn't handle being away from robin, they decide to move in together, right? and they know they should come out as a couple if that's gonna happen cause there's no way in hell they'd sustain the secret relationship thing.

since she works for the post and they're the number one source of robin-related gossip for the entire country, nancy knows she would never have peace to date publicly as long as she's working in hell, so the whole moving in with robin is a perfect excuse to leave her job and apply for bigger newspapers in new york city. the article about robin was a big success, and lots of companies were more than interested in having her in their crew, so it wasn't hard to land a job. so, as soon as she moves, they come out as a couple, and, well, have to adapt to a few changes.

some things are the way she expected they'd be. lots of cameras, a constant feeling they're being observed, having to answer and avoid questions, everything. nancy was dating someone public, but she didn't want to become a celebrity or anything, so she had a few rules and boundaries she didn't wanna cross and robin respected that. she made a private twitter and instagram accounts as her public ones got a boom of followers with their announcement. she didn't post much on them, just the occasional pictures with robin whenever she felt like it and lots of work stuff, and nothing can get her used to the fact in ten minutes she gets more than five thousand likes on whatever she posts— and fifty thousand as soon as it involves robin.

she did become the target of some harassment, but she tries to ignore it the best way she can. robin is very supportive, and they teach her how to filter comments on posts and not get notifications for the things she didn't want to see. nancy still read some in secret, though, no matter how gut-wrenching it is; people really did call her a homewrecker for shattering their fantasies of stobin being real, or invalidated her own sexuality and her love for robin. they tried to paint her as someone who was only in for the money and fame, like she only got her job and was where she was because she was using robin as a ladder for success.

they both knew it wasn't true, but, yeah, it hurts nonetheless.

meanwhile, her new job is fairly respectful of her relationship. nancy's coworkers don't ask a lot of questions about robin, just the occasional one or two people asking if they can get autographs or if robin is joining her in office parties. they also don't use nancy as a way to get to robin, or steve, or any other celebrity they know; and nancy appreciates the way it makes her feel like she's there for her own merit, and not to be used as a pawn to get to celebrities.

but, of course, she gets the occasional calls and e-mails from the hawkins post asking if she can do them a favour and give them exclusives. interviews, earlier announcements, or actually anything nancy would be willing to spill in exchange for money. she blocks every single one of them whenever they try to reach out.

adjusting is hard, at first, but robin is always there and she's so, so thankful for it. they talk about life a lot and robin always wants to reassure she can set as many boundaries as she wants to. they don't hide how they feel from each other; robin offers to find her a therapist that has dealt with this before if she wants to, just so she can have someone other than rob themself to talk to. she tells nancy she can archive all of the posts involving her if she feels like it. always checks in to be sure it's okay to post this, or that, or if it's fine to mention her in an interview and tell certain stories if she's not bothered by it.

nancy is fully aware that being with robin comes as a challenge, but in the end, it's all worth it. there's no one else she'd rather be with :)

robin discovers nancy can sing after they get together; they're sitting together, sharing earpods in the tour bus and nancy is singing taylor swift's seven and robin can't stop staring at her, and her soft tone, and the way she bops her head and smiles as she finishes the song and starts the next one–

it ignites something, kinda.

music has always been everything to robin — her safe place, her heaven. nancy, now, is also music. more than the love songs robin sings to herself from time to time: she's the tune that adorns her mind, floating around the heaven and gracing her with the sweetest voice robin has ever heard.

they start making silly little duets here and there after that. of course, nancy always thinks it's super silly cause she thinks she's not that good of a singer, but robin is always starstruck. heart eyes, a dumbfounded smile, dancing along as nancy sings her verse. she can't stop listening to it. she can't stop listening to her.

and she knows she's not the only one that thinks that way – steve hears them, once, and comments how nancy has a lovely voice when they're alone later. chrissy sings along with them as she does robin's makeup, bopping her head and grinning whenever it's nancy's verse. eddie jokes about how he'd produce an EP with nancy if she ever desires.

"sing with me," robin says, once, as they sway together in the dressing room after one of her concerts. a soft love song is playing in the background, and their eyes are closed, whispering the lyrics to each other with their foreheads pressed.

she can see the way nancy frowns, "rob, we are singing."

"no, nance. i mean," she smiles oh so softly, her head leaning back to stare into nancy's eyes. "sing with me. on stage."

nancy's eyes grow twice in size, her mouth opening and closing multiple times as she tries to find the right answer. her mind wanders off to a crowd full of people, watching her, recording her, and her head sways side to side in denial.

robin doesn't press it – she knows how hard it is to overcome a stage fright. but the thought is always on the back of both of their minds; robin admires her quiet singing, imagining playing a guitar for her on stage, microphone separating them as they stare into each other's eyes. nancy imagines the distant possibility of doing things right, not making a fool of herself, and being face to face with robin in all her superstar glory.

nancy is the one to bring up the idea again after a few weeks.

when they do it, it's exactly how they've imagined: robin welcomes her beautiful girlfriend, reporter nancy wheeler, on stage for a special performance. the crowd cheers as she arrives, heart beating hard against her chest, a shy smile as she approaches robin and wraps an arm around hers. the production crew brings robin's guitar and she hangs it around her body. the microphone is positioned between them and robin adjusts it to her girlfriend's height.

she plays it gently, starts the song, the melody slipping effortlessly from her lips, nodding her head to the rhythm. fluttering eyes looking at nancy's, a lovesick gaze always fixated on hers. finishes her turn with a grin, winking, taking a step back to play the guitar.

"eyes on me, nancy. you'll be fine," robin whispers as she strokes the instrument, nodding reassuringly.

nancy sighs. licks her lips, taking a deep breath before her verse begins. the crowd's cheers fading away as she focuses on the girl in front of her, on the way she switches between guitar notes and taps her feet, on the way her eyes shine as nancy does as much as open her mouth.

and then, she sings. like the rest of the world isn't there. like it's just them, slow dancing in the dressing room as they sing love songs together. waltzing around each other, pacing back and forth between their verses and harmonizing so naturally.

when the music ends, and the sounds return, her fears seems insignificant compared to the happy tears filling robin's eyes.

rating stobin halloween costume options that u guys submitted!

doc brown (robin) and marty mcfly (steve): 7/10 using back to the future for them is very fun but it's a bit expected... a bit normie.... also steve would just look like himself i think like it would just look like robin was an old guy and steve didn't wear a costume.

kurt russell (steve) and the thing (robin): 9/10 the thought of robin constructing some horrific sfx costume to be the thing is fucking incredible and i think steve would enjoy being sexy kurt russell. also he would definitely tell people he was kurt russell and if they said you mean rj macready? he'd be like who?

snoopy (steve) and woodstock (robin): 5/10 ok i know i KNOW it's cute in theory but think about it in practice. how would they actually do these costumes. we know they're diy'ing this. i fear this would just be like t-shirts with some marker on them and perhaps scary-looking face paint. maybe it could be cute but idk i don't have faith in them </3

bert and ernie: 10/10 this would be absolutely iconic and i think they would slay. no notes.

cagney and lacey: 6/10 i must admit this one was my idea. i think it's not recognizable enough and they'd be explaining it all night but i just love the thought of them having such a dykey couple costume.

bonnie and clyde: 7/10 once again i fear this might not be super recognizable but it is a fun idea and they'd look so hot.

ripley and the alien: 9/10 i worry about how they're gonna pull off the alien but i like to imagine that steve is wearing the panties + tank top combo and that is worth enough for me to set aside practicality.

the blues brothers: 9/10 they would look so sexy and have so much fun in their little matching suits <3

batman (robin) and robin (steve): 10/10 this would be so fucking cute and i Know they would spend the entire night waiting for somebody to say robin's name so they could both go "yes?" at the same time and then giggle like little children.

hammer and sickle: 7/10 idk how they would do this one but i thought of it weeks ago and haven't stopped laughing at my own idea since.

merry and pippin: 9/10 because when i got the ask suggesting this costume i almost cried bc it is just so precious to imagine HOWEVER if they went to a halloween party barefoot i'd have to kill myself.

shaggy and fred: 8/10 very cute but i feel like they need a scooby...

twins from the parent trap (1961): 9/10 this one is so funny to me like it's such a funny reference to make and it also implies that either they get wigs or they get the same haircut which is just an incredible visual.

princess leia (steve) and han solo (robin): 7/10 ok listen. listen hear me out. i love the gender fuckery we know this BUT i truly believe that steve would refuse to do a star wars costume if he couldn't be han solo. like i just don't think he would do it. however if she could convince him then robin would absolutely eat! it would be so sexy she would be absolutely crushing it with the ladies.

miracle max and valerie: 7/10 ok listen i support this one but it's just not my favorite. like it's funny it's unique it's original but i think steve wants to be sexy on halloween and i also suspect they would have to explain this one a lot.

salt and pepper shakers: 8/10 it's giving blues clues and i love it. very much classic couples costume but the classics are classics for a reason!

wesley (steve) and inigo montoya (robin): 10/10 hot. imagine robin doing the little monologue. steve wearing the mask. them fencing with like toy lightsabers or something. this one fucking rules.

1) most of us draw! we know its different with most systems but since our host grew up loving art its kinda a system wide knowledge/hobbie something we just know we gotta do like reading or writing lol does that make sense? (tho some dont enjoy it like others ect ect)

2) it really depends on who our most frequent front of the month is /hj but most the time we wanna say its a collaborative effort! it really just depends on who drew what and if they liked it enough (or was comfortable enough) to share

3) when people remember small things about our headmates >>>>> everything else /vpos hehehehe but yeah! molly and emily love sonic! thats their favorite thing to draw (but molly will really just doodle whatever a headmates asks her to if she's up to it) red really like drawing slapstick doodles tho! we learned odie is a big fan of drawing hair and another headmates like drawing horror/gore (and this one might not count but rj loves drawing the rise boys specifically)

4) oh god yeah and we still struggle with how to deal with that dhdjjdd it really depends on who's wanting to draw at the same time, red and mikey usually just tag team it like molly and louis but if its like donnie and alex they usually wanna draw two separate things and it ends up like the 'this is fine' meme so basically we end up not drawing honestly lol

5) we're bias on this one! cuz we can usually recognize who drew what (sometimes lol) so to us yes? but to everyone else we dont really know ^^; we do know that two of our headmates have extremely different styles tho! but we dont post their art on the blog lmaoo
