PAST CHAPTERS
Summary: JJ and Y/N clearly have a connection, but Pogues and Kooks are never meant to be together- especially if Rafe Cameron has anything to say about it.
A/N: so the last time i wrote a part for this series was almost two years ago, so i am so sorry... hoping to get back into it again, hope you enjoy this part!

You sighed, running a hand down your face as you stared at your phone. 6 missed calls from Rafe and over a dozen text messages begging you to pick up the phone. You had been dealing with this for nearly a week now, ever since the morning after you ended things with him.
A small piece of you wanted to call him back- just to hear him out. You hated to admit it, but a tiny part of you still missed him. But the lingering bruise on your wrist was a sharp reminder of why you had ended things with him.
You shut off your phone and climbed out of bed, glancing at the olive green dress hanging in your closet. Midsummers. You had always looked forward to it.
Even though the kook crowd wasn't a group you particularly enjoyed, it was still fun to get dressed up for a night. However, you weren't too keen on the idea now, your mind still buzzing with thoughts of Rafe and dreading the fact that he would undoubtedly be forced to make an appearance at the party.
Maybe he would give you space, you thought hopefully. But you weren't naive. Everyone on the island knew that Rafe managed to always get what he wanted- regardless of who, or what, he damaged in the process.
Kie came over a few hours later to get ready with you. To be honest, before you had begun hanging out with the pogues, you had nearly forgotten Kiara was a kook. You were more than grateful to have gotten close to her now, especially since it gave you someone you actually liked to talk with when you had to attend events on the island.
"Almost ready?" She asked, walking out of the bathroom and into your room, her gorgeous purple dress shimmering in the sunlight streaming through your window.
"Yep," you hummed, fastening the gold necklace around your neck as a final touch. You stood up from your desk and looked back at your friend, "Wow... We look amazing,"
Kiara laughed and nodded in agreement, "Obviously,"
Kie had noticed you had been off since she had come to your house to get ready, but she hadn't said much. She figured you would talk about whatever was bothering you when you were ready and brushed it off. However, when the party was well past starting, and you were still sulking off in the corner alone, she realized something really must be going on.
She navigated through the crowd of kooks to your spot against the wall, "Y/N."
You glanced up, pulled from your racing thoughts at the sound of your name.
"All right, I've tried giving you space… but you've gotta talk to me," Kie pleaded, leaning against the wall next to you.
You brushed your hair from your face, shaking your head slightly, "It's nothing, really, I just-" you trailed off, unable to finish your sentence as the reason for your distress walked through the doors.
Rose and Ward were the first of the Camerons to walk inside, parading their way as they smiled and held their heads high. Sarah and Weezie followed, and Rafe trailed behind.
"Oh," Kie uttered, realizing what had been troubling you so much.
As angry as you were at him, your heart broke a little when you took in his appearance. He was not the typical Rafe Cameron. His baby blue suit looked like it had been shoved on in a rush, his dark circles were prominent, and his normally perfectly in-place hair was far from its usual state. Honestly, he looked like shit.
Your stomach dropped, doubts creeping into your thoughts. Maybe he truly was sorry- maybe he didn't mean what he had done to you.
"Hey, Y/N," Kie's words again jolted you from your thoughts once again as she gently grabbed your wrist, "Let's get out of here,"
But it was too late. Rafe had seen you and was stumbling his way toward you and Kiara. As he got closer, the two of you could see the glazed look in his eyes and the smell of booze coming off of him- he was obviously far from sober.
"Y/N," His eyes were glazed with tears as he fumbled slightly over his words, "Y/N, baby- please… just let me talk. Hear me out,"
You hesitated, heart breaking. You had known Rafe was having a hard time, but had no idea it was this bad.
His nostrils flared as he tried to steady his shaky breaths, and you made up your mind. Maybe things had ended poorly, but you still cared for him and couldn't bear to watch him suffer like this.
Kie opened her mouth, but you spoke first, "Okay. But five minutes. That's all, then I am gone,"
"Y/N, I don't know if this is a good idea," Kie warned.
"It's fine, Kie," you said simply, brushing her off, "I can handle myself, thanks. I'll come find you in a few minutes," you squeezed her hand reassuringly and gave her a small smile.
The nervous look on her face never disappeared, but she reluctantly nodded and headed back to the dance floor.
You and Rafe stood in silence for a few moments. You wrestled with the conflicting urges to scream at him in anger or leap into his arms and tell him you missed him. Your mixed feelings for him had your head spinning, and he hadn't even said a word yet.
"I-" he cleared his throat, blinking away the tears that were pooling in his eyes, "Y/N, I am so, so, sorry. I never should have put my hands on you." he ran his fingers through his dirty blonde hair, "I-I was just so angry and upset. I lost my temper,"
You turned your head away, tears pricking at your eyes as he spoke of the memory you had been trying to forget.
"Hey," he said gently. He reached out, his fingers softly resting on your jaw and turning your head back in his direction.
You shuttered slightly as his fingers brushed against your chin. Your blood felt like ice at his touch, the fear from that night returning as the fingers that had not so long ago dug bruises into your arm now rested on your face.
However, you couldn't ignore how a small fire re-ignited within you. Your body unintentionally recalling all the good times you had spent with Rafe. Remembering all the times his hands had roamed your body and made you feel safe and loved.
"Please, Y/N/N. Believe me, I never wanted to hurt you- I didn't mean to," he pleaded, his face merely inches from yours, "It never should have happened... I will never touch you like that again."
His eyes searched yours, frantically searching for any sign of forgiveness, "I love you, Y/N, I love you so much. Please, baby- please, just forgive me,"
You honestly didn't know what to say.
Part of you was eating up every word that came out of his mouth- just look at him. How could anyone believe he wasn't sorry for what he had done? Yet, the bruises on your wrist were not so easily forgotten. Still, something about his presence was intoxicating and managed to suck you in. It was taking everything in you to not lean in a little closer and put your lips on his. You took a deep breath, thinking of the hell Kie would raise if she knew that you were even contemplating forgiving him.
"I don't know," You finally managed to say, shaking your head slightly, "I don't know, Rafe. I can't do this right now… I just don't know,"
Rafe dropped his hand from your face and tensed up slightly, trying to hide the anger coursing through his veins at your reply. He nodded curtly, "Okay… Okay, you need more time- I get that. But I'll be here Y/N, waiting for you to forgive me- because you will."
You took a shaky breath at his words, not liking the certainty flashing in his eyes as he said them.
"I'm sorry for what I did to you. I just-" he looked away, cutting himself off, "I'm sorry, okay? You understand that, right? You have to understand that,"
You nodded quickly before slipping away into the crowd to find Kie before you did anything that you would later regret. You jumped at the feeling of hands on your shoulders.
"Hey, relax! It's just me," JJ said, giving your shoulders a soft squeeze as he grinned.
You eased up when you realized it was the blonde, watching as he shamelessly ran his gaze down your figure.
"Hey," you snapped playfully, "My eyes are up here."
He smirked, locking his eyes with yours, suddenly remembering why he was here. "We're all leaving… like now," He glanced behind him, catching a glimpse of a security guard who did not look too pleased with him, "Dammit, I gotta get out of here- meet us at Rixon's Cove!" He took off sprinting through the crowd, the man not too far behind him.
You sighed, running a hand down your face as you watched him run toward the beach. "What the hell did you get us into now, JJ?"
"Okay, what the hell is going on?" You asked as you and Kie approached the three boys seated around the bonfire.
"I didn't know Y/N was coming," John B announced, shooting a glance at JJ.
You frowned at the bitterness in his tone.
JJ shot him a glare, "Of course, she's basically one of us," he defended.
"Plus, you told Sarah," Kie added harshly, "What, are you the only one who gets to share our secrets now?
John B raised his hands in surrender, "I'm not trying to start anything, Kie, I just-"
"Okay, sorry to interrupt, but can someone please fill me in on what's happening right now," Clearly, you were the only one in the group who was unaware of what this "emergency meeting" was about.
Kie and John B held their glares for a moment longer, but they stopped arguing long enough for JJ to speak up, "Have you ever heard of the Royal Merchant?"
"Yeah," you nodded, "Well, the stupid kids' story, yeah- where the ship filled with gold sunk and no one could ever find it,"
"Right, except it's real. It's real, and we know where the gold is," John B interjected.
The group sat silently and stared at you, waiting for a response. A few seconds passed by, and you didn't make a sound. Finally, you burst out laughing, "Okay, that's funny, guys. Now, why the hell are we really here?"
"Honest to God, Y/N. We aren't lying,"
You looked over to Pope, who nodded to confirm this was the truth, "Seriously? The REAL Royal Merchant?"
"Yes. The REAL Royal Merchant." JJ repeated, a grin plastered across his face, "Wanna help us find the gold?"

The swim
Every night since summer had started, you had always gone on a swim in the water. You've never been caught yet but then, one night, you saw the Cameran family outside. You always took your surf board with a bag of your things on it so you always had a way to get help or have something in arms reach. You grab ahold of the surf board and push your way towards the walk way to their house. Ward and Rose were being all romantic and the three kids were all playing together. Sarah was swimming and taking selfies with weezie and Rafe watching the water. You knew that he would see you if you went farther along but you always took the same path, every night.
You slowly got on the surf board, paddling with your arms to move away from the house, but alas, it was too late. Rafe had already spotted you and was pulling out his phone to turn on his flashlight.
"Kelani?" he called out but not too loudly since he didn't want to be bothered by his family.
You had always been friends with Sarah but you weren't that close. She just invited you to the kook parties and all the summer fun hangouts. Sarah never had a close friend so she just invited you to every family event that included friends.
"Hey, Rafe." you smiled but didn't mean it in a happy way. You knew he would tell his friends about yall's encounter. You went ahead and slowly made yor way over to where he was standing.
"What're you doin out here? Alone?" he asked, chuckling a bit. When you finally made your way towards him, he held out his hand and you took it, inviting you to get on the grass. You took the invitation and grabbed your bag, swinging it around your shoulder while grabbing your surf board and bringing it up too.
"I was just... yk, swimming and having fun late at night?" your voice raised the whole time you were speaking. You knew he would be suspicious. He looked at you and raised his flashlight to your eyes. He blinded you for a minute but your eyes soon got adjusted to it. Yall stood there in silence, waiting for one of yall to speak. Finally he did.
"You wanna go for a walk?" he asked you. You smiled but was relieved deep inside. You nodded at the suggestion as he brought down his phone and put it in his pocket.
The two of you walked in town and laughed at each other jokes and got quiet when it came to people being near yall. After everything you had heard about him, you would've thought he was a jerk or an asshole but in all reality, he was a nice guy. Or at least from his point of view.
"What's your number?" he asked you as the two of you stopped in front of his house. You gave it to him and he texted it immediately, you receiving it and making your pocket vibrate.
"shit, I forgot my surf board at your house. You can give it to me tomorrow, I'll drive my jeep to yours if thats okay?" He nodded as he slipped his phone back into his pocket.
"Listen, I think we should do this again. I had a good time and I enjoyed talking to you." You could tell he was nervous but he played it off well.
"Later, Rafe. I'll see you tomorrow." He wrapped his arms around your waist as you hugged his neck. He quickly kissed your cheek as he pulled away and after that, You knew things would be different between you and the kooks.

Helpless||JJ Maybank
A/N: So I just watched Hamilton it was phenomenal. Helpless reminded me of JJ so of course I had to write about it. There's spoilers for Hamilton so I wouldn't read this if you haven't watched it. Might do a part two with the second part of the song if you guys want me too.
Summary: You're Sarah Cameron's sister and she introduces you to JJ at Midsummer.
*SPOILER*
Okay so Sarah's not secretly in love with JJ like Angelica was with Hamilton.
////////////////////////////////////////////
Tumblr media
Tonight was the Midsummers dance you and Sarah had been getting ready all day not including the weeks of dress fittings before hand.
“Okay how do I look?”
Sarah turns around and of course she looks beautiful and you tell her just that.
You put on your dress and turn around.
“Do you think Kelce will like it?”
You ask. Kelce had asked you to be his “date” but you two were really just going as friends.
“He’d be an idiot not to.”
She says you give her a smile.
“Y/N, Sarah lets go!”
You hear your dad yell from down stairs. The two of you walk down stairs.
“Well if it isn’t the two of the prettiest girls on Kildare Island.”
Your dad says when you get down there giving you both a hug.
“Don’t let him try to flatter you he said the same thing to me and Rose.”
Weezie says rolling her eyes and looking back at her phone.
“Okay let’s get a quick picture and then we can leave.”
Rose says she had the camera set up waiting for the two of you. After the picture everyone got in the car and headed to midsummers.
When you arrived you went over to the table where Topper and Kelce sat.
“Hey Y/N, you look beautiful.”
Kelce said hugging you.
“Thanks Kelce, you look nice too.”
You said smiling at him.
You stood with Kelce, Topper, Sarah, and Rafe laughing as Sarah told the grand story of her saving a little girls stuffed animal. You look up to see the most beautiful boy walk through the door. You look at him trying to catch his eye but he’s busy talking to Pope.
“What or who are you looking at girl?”
You hear Sarah whisper to you. You point at JJ.
“Oh that’s JJ.”
Your sister says.
You never went out to any of the parties despite your siblings always asking you to. So you didn’t know many of the pouges the only reason you knew Pope was because he would drop off your groceries from time to time.
“Oh my God you like him.”
She says the proceeds to walk away from the group and walk up to JJ.
‘What is she doing.’
You think trying to look anywhere but where JJ and Sarah stood. JJ looks over to you and smiles, and suddenly you feel your knees go week.
‘Look at those eyes’
You think as they start walking over talking to eachother
“Y/N Cameron, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”
You say extending a hand to him
“Cameron?”
He asks raising an eyebrow to Sarah
“My sister.”
She says with a smile
“It’s very nice of you to help Pope and his dad out.”
“If it takes waiting on a bunch of kooks for us to meet it’s worth it.”
He says smirking at you as you turn bright red
“I’ll leave you to it.”
Sarah says walking away from you two and taking the other boys with her before they could say anything.
One week later you and JJ have been constantly texting and talking on the phone nightly.
“Sarah you can’t read all mine and JJ’s messages”
You say laughing at her
“I’m just saying if you really loved me you would share them.”
*Ding*
You look down to see JJ asking you out on a date to which you immediately replied yes.
A few nights later you meet up with JJ at the wreck.
You wore a yellow skirt that had flowers on it and a off the shoulders white shirt.
Tumblr media
when you walked into the wreck you saw Kie and waved at her
“Hey Y/N, how many?”
“Two, I’m suppose to be meeting JJ.”
“No way, your the girl he can’t seem to shut up about. I swear the past week all we’ve heard about is you. The boys are trying to make him look presentable so he will be here soon sit wherever you want.”
About 5 minutes later JJ showed up look as handsome as ever.
“Hey I’m so sorry I’m late”
“Not a problem.”
You two eat and have a great time. After you finish eating you two go on a walk down the beach.
“I’ve had a great time tonight.”
You say smiling at him.
“Me too and with a kook no less.”
He says you chuckle at him
“We’re not all like my brother and friends.”
“I know you and Sarah are pretty cool.”
“Yeah and you guys love Kie.”
“Eh Kie’s one of us and she just lives on your side of the island”
You two keep walking until you get a text from your dad saying you need to come home.
“It’s my dad, he wants me home”
“Okay I’ll walk you back to your car”
He says grabbing your hand
“I really did have fun and I hope we can do it again soon.”
JJ says
“I’d like that a lot.”
You say as you reach your car
“Okay, well, I’ll text you.”
He says shyly
“I’ll be waiting”
You stand on your tip toes to place a kiss on his cheek. When you pull away he grabs you by the waist and kisses you. When you pull away you smile at him.
“I’ll see you later JJ.”
“See you Y/N.”

First chapter has been posted for my Green Ember fanfic, "Hopeful Still"
Here be the Ao3 synopsis:
Weezie lives a comfortable life with her mother and twin sister- well, as comfortable a life as one can live in a city enslaved by the tyrannical Morbin Blackhawk. The rabbits are told as long as the follow the rules of the Governor, they will be let alone to live their lives. Airen, Layra, and Weezie are careful to do just that, but their haven of happiness is destroyed when without prompting or reason, Captain Daggler invades the family farm and takes Weezie captive with the intent of brutal murder, leaving her mother and sister alive.
With the help of a wounded soldier, Weezie succeeds in breaking out of prison, fleeing to the slave camps far up north to escape the evil Daggler's reach.
Every step of her journey she meets new trials to test her bravery and strength as everything she holds to is taken away by Morbin and his minions bit by bit until she is left with nothing but an unquenchable hope that she strives to share with everyone she meets. Through it all she clings to the hope of a Mending to the hurts, a seed to rise from the ashes and bring light and life back to the world. Every night, no matter how dark, has a dawn.
No matter how far the darkness beats her down, she will be hopeful still.
Here's a link to the fic if you'd like to read it!

Weezie: “Ladies and gentlemen” is unnecessarily gendered, overly formal, lengthy, and honestly I’m falling asleep already.
Weezie: “Cowards,” on the other hand, is inclusive to all genders, casual and fun, short and to the point, exciting, and dramatic.

Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day. Welcome to the weekend!
As some of you are reading this, I am in Whetstone waiting for my car to be serviced. They offered me drop off or wait. I opted to wait while it was being serviced. They called me yesterday to say I couldn’t wait. They had made no socially distanced provision for people that wanted to wait. So, I shall wander the streets of Whetstone looking for shelter and somewhere to eat my breakfast. Some of you can expect numerous questionable text messages!
One of my students logged on the other day and, judging by the sound of his voice, he sounded a bit fragile, almost on the verge of illness. “Are you okay?” I said. “Yeah, I’m just cold,” he said. “Where are you?” I asked him. “Colombia.” “What’s the temperature?” I asked. “About 21,” he replied. I guess it’s all relative? It wasn’t even that warm in North-Weezy yesterday – maybe about 11 degrees? - but the sun was shining and, if I need to put my shades on, I am one happy boy!
The 61-year-old enjoyed his three-mile walk and outdoor workout but I suspect I nullified all my good efforts by eating my body weight in homemade cookies! My beautiful friend Charlotte Rabin went a bit cookie crazy and sent me a box of the leftovers! Oh my goodness! How good are they? Although it will probably be how good were they by next week? These are very more-ish cookies!
And here’s a worrying thought. Did you know there are people out there that have an opinion of you based on something they heard from someone else? They’ve never met you or spoken to you and yet they have an opinion of you. And maybe we’re all guilty of it? Maybe we all form opinions of other people based on gossip, hearsay and ‘anecdotal’ evidence? I try to keep an open mind.
Look forward to your company tomorrow afternoon at 1.00pm for ‘The A-Z Of Mi-Soul Music’. The final part of The Letter W (Part 10). Have a fabulous and funky Friday! I love you all. And, remember, don’t just read my words, buy one of my books, read it and review it! And, when Lockdown is over, I promise I will come and read to you!

junior witch 1
It was a Wednesday afternoon when Kit's phone went off in the middle of lunch, playing a ringtone she had never heard before. The tune was too smooth to be one of the two-bit preloaded system tones, but she wasn't much one for adding special ones either. More importantly, Kit was pretty sure her phone had been on silent since she had started undergrad five years ago. So when it crooned at her with a soulful hum that rose and fell in familiar patterns, she excused herself, left her friends, and stepped outside the taco shop to take the call.
Wriggling her arms so her sweater cuffs would fall and protect her hands from the late April breeze, Kit swiped to answer the call. "Hello?"
"Kit, baby," the voice on the other end was rich and carried a smile, "it's your Auntie Louise. How you doin', sweetheart?"
"I'm good, Weezie," she said, hooking a loose strand of pale hair out of her mouth, where it had flown into her wide grin. Weezie had never called her before. "How are you?"
"Oh, you know me. I'm blessed and highly favored, though my ol' sciatic do like to act up in foul weather." Her laugh crackled through the phone. Cell service was fine-- that was just her laugh. Scratchy as a rash and just as catching.
"You better be using that heating pad I got you," Kit warned. Weezie, like her gran, was of an age where she wouldn't be told what to do but did like to be fussed over a little. "How are Terrence and Jasmine?"
"They're just fine, baby, they're just fine. I'm calling to ask after that old gran of yours."
Kit could hear the smile in the old woman's voice slip into something more serious. Like any card-carrying southerner, Weezie could talk about her family, and ask after Kit's, for an hour, and she was never one to hold back when talking about her granddaughter. Kit's Yankee classmates might be happy to cut to the chase, but bypassing such niceties struck an anxious nerve in her Mississippi-bred heart. "What about her?"
"Have you heard from her lately?" If it had been anyone else, the question might have passed for casual, but she knew Weezie's voice too well.
"Well sure," Kit did a quick count. "Must've been about three, four days ago? You know we normally FaceTime sometime over the weekend, and she texted me to say she couldn't make it this week. The equinox is coming, and she's got all her...stuff to prepare."
"Uh huh." Weezie didn't sound convinced. "And before that?"
"Before that, I guess it would've been the weekend before last. We caught up like usual, and at the end, I think she said she was headed off to your place. She did go, didn't she?"
Weezie hummed. "She did, but that's the last I've seen of her. I'm starting to get a little worried now. I called by the house today, and wasn't anybody there." In the background, Kit could hear the rhythmic tapping of Weezie jiggling her cane. "The house was all lit up too, and you know how she feels about leaving lights on in the place."
She knew alright, from years of scolding. "Has nobody seen her around town? Bobby Jay's or the senior center?"
"Not a soul. And people do tend to remember her."
Kit almost swore aloud; only the memory of getting her mouth washed out by both Weezie and Gran held her tongue. Instead, she let out a long breath. "Okay. Well, I'll call her now, and I'll keep on calling her. Can you ask around with her other friends?"
"Like who," Weezie scoffed, "those women in her social club?"
"If you wouldn't mind," Kit confirmed, apologetic. "Gran keeps names and phone numbers in her little address book on the roll-top in the den. You know where the key is. If you'd rather not, you can send me their numbers, and--"
Weezie shushed her. "I can call 'em. I'll let you know if I hear anything, though I think it'll be a cold day you-know-where before those old grackles say a word to me."
"Thank you, Weez. If they give you any trouble, you let me know, and I'll raise some hell."
The old woman harrumphed something about fighting her own battles, thank you very much. Then, just as Kit was sure she was about to make her goodbyes, she added, "You are coming home soon, aren't you?"
"Yes ma'am." She hadn't been planning on it, but she had a queasy feeling that said plans were about to change. "Soon as finals are over."
"Hmmm. Well, I don't know what's gonna turn up between now and then, but if I was you, Kitty B... I'd get on home as soon as I could."
After exchanging love-you's and goodbyes with Weezie, Kit called her gran. Then again. After the third, she gave in and left a voicemail, even though she knew Gran rarely listened to them.
"Hey, Gran," she began on a sigh, "it's Christine. I just talked to Weezie, and she said she hasn't seen you in over a week. I told her we texted a couple days ago, but now she's got me all worried too, especially since you aren't answering the phone. I know you've got equinox prep stuff going on, but could you give me a call back when you get a minute? I know I said I didn't think I'd be coming home this summer, but now I'm thinking I will. Anyway, just...call me back, please. Love you. Bye."
Stuffing her phone back into her cardigan pocket, Kit wove her way back into the narrow shop that was half market and half taqueria. Her friends were just where she'd left them, in one of the three booths along the far left wall.
"Who was that?" Olivia asked through a mouthful of lamb's tongue torta as Kit slid back in next to her.
Before she could answer, Jonathan snorted, "Wow, nosy."
Kit cut off the retort she could see forming in Olivia's mind. "It's fine. It was my gran’s best friend, Aunt Louise, calling to ask me something."
"Should've guessed it was someone from home," Jonathan gestured at her with his water glass. "Your accent is thick as hell right now."
"It is not," she enunciated.
"Oh, it is," Olivia confirmed. "'Gran' had multiple syllables."
Kit raised her hands in surrender. "Fine, you win. Apparently the return of the accent is none too soon, because it looks like I'm going back to Mississippi after finals."
Gasping, Olivia jabbed an elbow into her side. "Christine. Barton. You said you were coming home with me so I wouldn't have to go to my cousin's quinces alone!"
"Can we get some perspective, please?" Jonathan demanded. "Kit is going to Mississippi, for Christ's sake. Have a little sympathy."
As her friends snarked over which was the worse fate, the Deep South or a Jimenez family gathering, Kit drained the dregs of her Coke with a frown. Going back to her grandmother's house after finals wasn't exactly her idea of a good time, and she had successfully managed to avoid spending an entire summer there since her junior year of undergrad. Last year, she'd had the excuse of fulfilling her field school requirement, spending the summer studying Pictish stones and freezing her ass off in Northern Scotland. Which was still, for the record, preferable to the alternative. And sure, there was chance that whatever was going on could be cleared up in no time. But her gut was saying very insistently otherwise, and if there was one thing she had learned the hard way, it was to trust her gut.
Another thing Kit had learned, though, was that in the face of an unpleasant inevitability, it never hurt to get a little creative.
"Hey," she cut in, plonking her glass bottle onto the tabletop. "Do y'all want to come with me?"
