Three Months Before Filming 'Terminator 6,' Arnold Schwarzenegger Experienced a Failed Heart Surgery When Doctor Accidentally Pierced Heart Wall: 'I Faced a Catastrophe'.

In a recent video on YouTube, Arnold Schwarzenegger disclosed that he underwent a flawed open-heart surgery just three months prior to shooting "Terminator: Dark Fate," the 2019 blockbuster which is the sixth film in the iconic series. This marked Schwarzenegger's third heart operation, which was initially intended to be minimally invasive.

Upon waking up, the actor recalls the doctor saying, “We erred by perforating your heart wall, leading to internal bleeding. We had to act quickly to save your life by performing emergency surgery."

Feeling extremely alarmed, Schwarzenegger acknowledged that there was no undoing what had happened. He thus focused on his recovery, stating, "I found myself in the midst of a crisis. The question was how to navigate my way out of it. It's about regaining composure, switching gears, and aiming to leave the hospital." He emphasised the necessity of mobilising himself, saying, "I knew I had to get up and start walking, no matter how foolish I looked shuffling through the hospital corridors. Doctors warned me that failure to engage my lungs could lead to pneumonia, which could be fatal."

Schwarzenegger was also acutely aware of the limited time he had before filming for "Terminator 6" was due to commence. "I needed to be in good shape to handle running, lifting, and fight scenes," he explained. "So, I was eager to fully engage in physical training as soon as I was able." The actor credits his upbeat mindset and the supportive hospital staff for enabling him to recover sufficiently to participate in what would be his last role in the "Terminator" franchise.

Commenting on his departure from the series, Schwarzenegger mentioned earlier this year, “The franchise will continue, but without me. It’s clear that audiences are eager for a fresh take on 'The Terminator.' The ball is in someone else’s court now to bring something innovative to the table."
