The World of DATA
Tumblr media
Data is an essential element to an organization as it represents important information for the organization and the business. Database stores all data in a structured form of relational tables. Therefore Database Management System (DBMS) helps to manage present data in the database as a set of applications. It aids to organize data for better performance and faster retrieval by maintaining catalogs. However as databases are lined with some applications, by hampering the applications it is possible to attack a database in more than one way. The matter of attacking a database becomes serious when users of databases are leaking the information to unknown sources around the world.
Types of Attacks on Database Inference: To get sensitive information Count can be used with the Sum function. Another method is Tracker attack. It locates specific data and using additional queries that produce small results can be recorded. Basically the attacker adds additional records to be retried for different queries. Then the two sets of records begin to cancel out each other and only the wanted data is left. A general form of tracker attack requires some algebra and logic to find the data distributions in a data base, thus the attacker would use it to find chosen components. Passive Attacks on Databases: Static leakage: This type of attack uses a snapshot of the database. Information can be gained from a database by closely observing a snapshot of it. Linkage leakage: This type of attack uses plain text values. Plain text values information can be gained by linking table values to the position of those values in index.
Dynamic leakage: This type of attack requires changes to be made in a database. Any changes made in a database over a period of sometime can be monitored and information about the plain text values can be gained.
Active Attacks on Databases: Spoofing: This type of attack makes code text value is replaced by a generated value Splicing: Code text value is replaced by different code text value Replay: Code text value is replaced with an old version that was previously updated or deleted
SQLIA (SQL Injection Attack) Bypassing web authentication: Attackers use the input field, this is used in the query’s that will be conditioned.
Database Fingerprinting: Attackers make logically wrong and or illegal queries. This causes the DBMS to produces error messages. The error message will contain the names of database objects used. Thus, from the error message, the attackers can guess the database used by application as different databases have different styles of reporting an error. Injection with the union query: Attackers get data from a table that is completely different from the one that was planned by the developer. Damaging with additional injected query: An attacker would enter input such as additional query along with the original query that is generated. Remote execution of stored procedures: Attackers execute stored procedures which may have harmful effect after an execution.
Ordinary Attacks: Legitimate users can take the advantage of the access rights given and can expose the hidden and sensitive data to an attacker or to anyone outside the organization.
Tumblr media
Countermeasures Against Database Attacks Access Control Mechanisms This is a technique to maintain data. When an attacker tries to access any data, Access Control Mechanism will check the rights of that person against set authorizations. They are specified by security administrators or security officers. Besides Access Control Mechanism, a strong authentication is also required to authenticate the valid user of a database system and then access control will help defining different permissions on different data of database. Techniques to fight with SQLIA SQLIA is a dangerous attack thus methods to prevent vary. Positive tainting and Syntax aware evaluation: The valid input strings are initially provided to system for detection of SQLIA. It classifies input strings and spreads non trusted strings away. Syntax aware evaluation is done on the broadcast strings in order to decide the strings that are not trusted. Syntax assessment is performed at the database meeting point.
Data Encryption File System Encryption: The physical disk where database exist in is encrypted. Entire database is encrypted using single encryption key. DBMS Level Encryption: In this scheme static leakage attacks and splicing attacks are prevented.
Data Scrambling Data scrambling is used when users have proper access to data in the database but still it is required to secure sensitive information from them.
Auditing This technique is used to prevent Inference attack on databases. Examinations of such queries can help in finding inference attack and can be avoided in later stage.
All in all databases are the primary form of storage for organizations. This is why the attacks on databases are increasing, because they reveal important data to the attacker.

me explaining how online works so y'all can be gay do crimes fuck corporate:
Business wants to flatten human-online engagement for business aims. This is the algorithm's prime function—not delivering you the content you want, when you want it.
So, the solution is to up the ante. Send backwash chaotic metrics. Do big loud gay throttle. You can literally choose to go against the online grain anytime you want.
Example: You love tea. OK. Identify indie tea brand that's super ethics. Put them on blast as hard possible online and in search. Get 5 friends (who get 5 friends) to do this. This helps them.
But also, bidnid ppl do competitive analysis. big shitty tea brand says "huh, why is trending?" big tea brand go "how can i do that. wait."
and if you picked the right indie tea brand, only logical answer for bigboi is "consumer like ethical tea. i...oops." and when big brand tries to only LOOK like tiny tea brand, you call bullshit no buy
you do not give social media signals to big bad mean tea brand. you screencap if you gotta and use asterisk or whatever. all the while, applying pressure to uplift cool indie tea brand and cool little guys like them.
this is legit how online commerce and digital analytics works.
1 person uplifting cool indie ethical brand becomes 2. then 10. then 100. then 1000. then 100,000 until big bidnid fucks have to go "and i oop." if they want market share, they will have to evolve or you will ignore them like an annoying bug.
pls prove to me that normies are able to grasp what im saying: you have all the power. you're just not using it.

as true as the jokes about “everyone wants to rewrite ninjago” are i feel like smthn people forget when complaining about the inconsistencies of the show is that…. it wasn’t planned? it’s not like most other animated shows lately - it didn’t start with a deeply fleshed out world or a meticulously designed pitch bible with grandiose plans for a long-term story or character arcs. the ninja don’t originally get their powers from heredity because they weren’t hereditary powers yet. the magic system doesn’t make sense bc they literally just made it up as they went! they go back and forth on stuff like whether non-elementals can learn spinjitzu bc it’s a collaborative piece of media made by people with vastly different levels of control over the story, the animation, the sets, etc. that varied over the course of the series. it’s totally understandable and exciting to see so many people reworking the early stuff with the lore and logic later seasons introduced but i personally feel that… if you’re doing that. you need to understand why the show is like that instead of writing it off as being bad and shitty. it was working with what it had. it’s only what it is now because of that awkward troubleshooting phase, not in spite of it
#ninjago#text✨#you’re 100% allowed to criticize the show but i keep seeing people complain about the inconsistencies about like. their parents giving them#their powers especially. like yeah cool that wasn’t a thing yet? they have different origins than the non-core elementals#because in the real world that idea hadn’t even crossed their minds yet! the original story was a more traditional fantasy narrative of#normal people rising to the occasion and *gaining* powers through their own feats. the fact that they changed it later doesn’t mean#it was necessarily bad to begin with or that it’s something that should be mocked#idk just. there’s a lot of hostility in some circles about this stuff and it makes me kinda sad. enjoy the complexity of production and how#series adapt over time. it’s part of why the show is so interesting to me#that essay i wrote had a whole bit juxtaposing the attitudes about technology in rebooted and prime empire and how they reflect greater#cultural trends between 2013 and 2021. it’s SUPER interesting and yet a lot of people only talk about it to make fun of how ‘bad’ it was :(#this isnt to say i don’t enjoy some of the retcons. the changes to their meetings with wu in s8 are genuinely really interesting! i love the#changes to cole’s backstory. i think his mom makes him in the early seasons even better! i’m just saying.. be respectful? nobody *tries* to#make a bad show. ages and ages of time and dedication were put into what ends up on your screens. it’s all human love and creation.#as goofy as it is#okay sry got all anthropology there but hm. been thinking about this for a while. apologies for being the local annoying early seasons fan

There is something just so nostalgic about computers in Half-Life. They are your classical late 90s-early 2000s computers (the Black Mesa incident is supposed to take place somewhere in the 2000s), which were kind of top-notch at the time but now feel like a bit of recursive nostalgia, you see the same computers you would have played Half-Life with IN Half-Life (or Black Mesa or spinoffs).
Meanwhile Half-Life 2 is set somewhere in the 2020s (two decades after Half-Life 1, doesn't it make you feel old?) but the computers you find are about the same. It's justified in setting that it's been two decades of worldwide catastrophes, alien invasions and dystopian Combine dictatorship of course, but the fact that you find the same kind of chunky beige computers I could find at my own cybercafé (my family had a little cybercafé of 4 or 5 computers during the 2000s in a spare room) everywhere makes me so nostalgic.
It's likely that in-universe technology must have advanced but only as far as combating the portal storms and alien invasions (and then completely wrecked by the Combine invasion) with consumer electronics staying frozen in the early 2000s. So no smartphones, no widespread laptops, no LED monitors. That's why it's such a recursive nostalgia. Half-Life is stuck in the era of Half-Life.
I like to imagine that once Gordon and Alyx get a little time to breathe, they would throw an Age of Empires II LAN party.

what happened to high school?
When I was young, I thought high school students were so cool and grown up. I watched as they started driving, dating, having sex, and going to parties and I couldn't wait to be that fun age. Now that I am in high school, where has the fun gone?
As people have realized, generations are starting to look younger and younger. When you imagine a senior in high school, you often don't imagine the people that I go to school with. Their baby faces haven't gone away and the growth spurts have not hit yet. Part of the appeal of high school is the feeling of adulthood and maturity, not only in the classes you take or your social endeavors, but in the way you look. I don't know if it's because there isn't as much of an age gap between myself and a senior in high school now, but when I was little, they just looked so old. I don't see that anymore.
Also, technology is nowhere near new and exciting. It's a part of our everyday lives and I will resent that for the rest of my life. While it comes in handy for teaching and grading, and Google is a major plus, it shouldn't be our only source of school these days. I rarely get assignments on paper and honestly, I wish they were. I want physical copies and mementos from my high school days. Not to mention, I don't even have a real school identification card. It's in an app.
When social media and technology was new and exciting, it acted as a third space for teenagers. Like malls and roller rinks in the eighties and nineties, Tik Tok, Instagram and Tumblr are the "hang-out spots" for teenagers in the late 2010s and 2020s. In the early to mid-2010s, teenagers still went to malls and roller rinks to hang with friends while also adjusting to the new online world. It was a place for teenagers to communicate their ideas and express themselves. Now it has become a part of everything. I almost never have conversations where someone doesn't whip out their phone mid sentence
Also, we have no defining trends for our generation. Social media has brought forth something called the microtrend. A song, make-up look or body type will be a trend for two weeks before out short-attention spanned peers decide it's not interesting or cool anymore and move on to something else. While the nineties had grunge and glamor and the eighties had acid wash denim and big hair, the 20s has....leggings? And Utah curls? What I mean is, when you think of the 1990s, a specific image comes to mind. Grunge music and dark eye make-up. When you think of the eighties you picture big curly hair and neon spandex. When you think of the 2020s, nothing in specific comes to mind because we can't decide on one thing. Nothing is interesting or cool enough anymore. We live in such a capitalist, consumerist society that once we engage in something too much, it becomes boring and we have to find something else. Social media and influencers only amplify that. I don't know if it's Gen-Z's push-back on being categorized or defined by anything, or if nothing is good enough anymore.
And don't even get me started on the music. In the 20th-century, different music trends came and went. In the 70s hair metal and power ballads became huge. In the 80s glam metal, synth, and pop started to materialize and in the 90s alternative rock, grunge, nu metal, and boy-bands made their breakthrough. This overbearing control of the music industry made music a novelty and allowed teenagers to be a part of a subculture. When punk came about in the 70s and goth in the 70s and 80s, it allowed teenagers to interact with another and create relationships because of the subculture they identified with. This made high school the stereotypical version we see in 90s and early-2000s movies. The goths sit over here and the popular kids sit over there. Even in the 90s with grunge and the 2000s with emo. Though to come it seemed “clique-y”, it made making friends and self-expression more cohesive and less stand-out. Even into the early 2010s, those who liked pop punk, didn’t hangout with the kids who like mainstream pop or trap beats.
With the rise of the influencer and easy access to higher paying or earning jobs, anybody can make music, even if they’re horrible at it. Content creators online put out singles or albums that sample the same beats as everybody else and have the same dense and shallow lyrics, where it is obvious they’re trying to sound deep and meaningful but they’re fully missing the mark. It’s hard to want to claim a genre or use a specific sound or style of music to identify your generation or simply the people you hangout with. New music doesn’t have that power anymore. New major music genres have not been pioneered since the 90s with grunge and nu metal. People that are making music aren’t creative and the creatives aren’t making music.
The things people listen to and the way that they dress says a lot about them. For teenagers, it has said everything about them. However in the last ten years, social media and technology has ripped those ideals away from us. Nobody wants to be perceived as one thing. They want to be everything and nothing is good enough to define anybody anymore. Tik Tok has ruined the essence and the glowing aura that once was the teenager.
