Hey I was wondering if you have any knowledge on techeuns and how they use their abilities and I wanna compare it to strand and maybe make another theory post. Please take your time and I hope you have a happy holidays!
Thank you!
Not much info on how specifically they use their abilities. Whenever we see them doing anything, they just kinda stand around. I presume most of it is done entirely telepathically. They seem to have some innate powers, but can be augmented with gems.
Petra has some insight into the training because she initially wanted to become a Techeun, but it was hard for her. She shows that telepathic connection is crucial, as well as the ability to manipulate things inside of dreams.
Speaking of manipulating things, one of the Techeun powers is creating illusions:
Working with the Techeuns and the Crows, they created an enormous visual illusion of the Harbingers
Speaking of Harbingers, they are... a special type of a weapon that is also somewhat a living creature, sort of. Techeuns bond with them and have to learn how to communicate and control them. They are all gone now, except one, whose location is only known to Mara. Some lore about them from Shuro Chi's Pilgrimages in the Dreaming City. This is them at Battle of Saturn:
Tumblr media
Techeuns can also travel and explore the Ascendant Plane and can utilise the Ley Lines. This is helped with the use of queensfoil:
"Are you trying to brew queensfoil?" Petra laughed.
"I was," Sjari replied, "but I… got lost."
"You're lucky I came," Petra chided. "Too much of that stuff, and you'll leave your mind in the Ascendant Plane."
"We need to find the Ley Lines," Sjari said, as if suddenly recalling her original purpose. "We need to find Queen Mara."
"You're right." Petra was suddenly somber. "We do. Queensfoil is a good idea. Keep at it."
More about that here from the perspective of a Techeun. And more. And even more! A lot of information is also on the full seasonal set from Season of the Lost which has a lot of various details about Techeun powers, the Ascendant Plane and the Ley Lines.
They also have some sort of implants and are also capable of some really cool things in the Ascendant Plane:
His eyes drift to another conquest: crystalline implants torn from the forehead of an Awoken Techeun. He hunted her through the Ley Lines for three days, tracking her by the stench of her fear. When he found her, she brought the Ascendant Plane down on him. He did not fall for this trick twice.
And of course, I think most relevant to strand would be the Ley Lines. We didn't get any full and clear explanation about what they are, however:
Crow: Are Ley Lines natural phenomena, or something the Awoken created?
Mara: They're naturally occurring paracausal forces that predate the Awoken. The only entities that might know their true origins and makeup are the Nine. But I don't think they're telling.
Them being a naturally occurring paracausal force is interesting. Ley Lines may be some form of interaction with strand that's known to the Awoken.
Techeuns also mostly seem to be using their powers telepathically, in dreams, meditations and trances. Once they enter that other state, they can then manipulate and shape things as they wish which is helpful for traversing the Ascendant Plane and Ley Lines. I do really wonder if strand will somehow play into this.

I KNOW WE'RE ALL ANTI TWITTER ON HERE BUT I NEED YOUR HELP!!!
I ordered the Techeun hoodie from bungie store at the end of season of the lost. I got three emails about it after I got the receipt - one to say that production was on schedule, one to say the hoodie would be leaving the production factory at the end of July, and one to say it would be shipping at the end of August.
I heard nothing more after that. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, seeing as according to their website COVID is still causing shipping problems, but after waiting two months past the supposed delivery timeframe I got in touch with customer support.
They are telling me that they now can't send me the hoodie, because its out of stock. They can only refund it. And they didn't explain anything at all.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE retweet my twitter thread and tag Bungie and the bungie store in the comments. I want an actual explanation from a real live person about what the hell happened for my order to be completely skipped over. As an autistic person whose special interest is the Dreaming City and all things Awoken, this has absolutely broken my heart.

Awoken Headcanons
note: this is mostly based on my own audacity rather than actual lore. 🤫
-
Earthborn and Awoken Guardians are like the book versions of LotR elves, while Reefborn are like the movie versions. They're actually similar, but to outsiders, Earthborn are friendly and full of life while Reefborn are aloof and elegant like their queen. This perception, though frustrating to people like Petra, generally works in Mara's favor so she allows it to continue.
Awoken Speech sounds more like creole than a separate language. This is due to the multitude of languages spoken aboard the Yang Liwei, which then carried over into the dialects in the Distributary. Although some argue Speech is a mixed language rather than creole, consensus from both the Gensym Scribes and Last City's Cryptarchy has not yet been reached.
Portmanteau examples:
daatma (ดาว/"dāw" + आत्मा/"ātman"): Awoken [older gen]
tulatma (tulay + आत्मा/"ātman"): Awoken [younger gen]
luxïn (luz + 星/"xīng"): starlight
noyam (noyer + يوم/"yawm"): Darkness
Traditional Awoken names usually sound "soft," with palatalized consonants and several vowels. The most common ending letters are "A" (Mara, Petra, Amrita) and "N" (Uldren, Jolyon, Nasan), while the most uncommon letter is "K" (Tulnik).
Most Reefborn are highly superstitious, due to the environment they grew up in. However they don't consider themselves superstitious, as it is only "practical" to refer to The Dreaming using epithets instead of names, or to look for omens in dreams, or to treat water and reflections as near-sacred, and so on.
Promises and vows / oaths are generally a life-long ordeal for Awoken, especially for Reefborn and especially if they are made to Mara. This is partly influenced by the post-Distributary riots, partly influenced by contracts with Ahamkara, and partly influenced by Mara's own charisma, which has created an almost religious devotion* amongst her followers.
*(Embarrassingly, when Calus sought to imitate this sense of devotion to lure Awoken Guardians to the Menagerie, he was partially successful.)
Balance is an important part of Awoken culture. Past and future and life and death are strongly emphasized by Reefborn, while Earthborn have integrated Old Earth philosophies like yin-yang and wabi-sabi. While Awoken Guardians tend to be less ardent about balance and/or a desire for it, there are noticeably less Awoken within the Praxic Order than in other Vanguard-affiliated organizations.
The Awoken don't believe in a physical afterlife, only the Unreal. This makes the existence of Awoken Guardians egregious to other Awoken, as they do not "return" from death, but rather "take form" of people who no longer exist. Even so, Guardians (or "Noble Dead") are still treated with respect - out of love for the ones they look like, and fear of the entities they are.
(Awoken don't believe in reincarnation either, as The Awakening is considered an "extraordinary" circumstance.)
Contrary to popular belief, male Awoken aren't ostracized in Reefborn society, and they aren't considered second-class citizens either. Even so, due to the 70/30 split [which has persisted since the Distributary], it is rare to see male Reefborn in high-level positions or as Techeuns. The perceived lack of opportunity has led to an increase in Reefborn emigrants in recent years, especially after the Battle of Saturn.
Due to the loss of resources and difficulties of growing food in the Reef, Reefborn dishes are "bland" compared to Earthborn ones. The most common seasonings are salt, cold-hardy herbs like mint, and corasteri (a star-shaped culinary variant of asphodelia). However, Reefborn food is both warming and filling, which is suited to a life in deep space.
The Dreaming City is surprisingly bare in terms of flora and fauna. Aside from pink asphodelia, queensfoil, baryon bough and memorial trees - most of which are cultivated - there are very few plants to be found. Spectral butterflies and non-native jewel bugs can be found in gardens and lost sectors, and starcats have free rein of the buildings, but there is no urban wildlife like in the Last City and Earth's metropolitan ruins. The vibrance is an illusion; it is as empty as the Reef's biodomes.
Earthborn do not live as long as their Reefborn counterparts; higher oxygen levels, increased gravity, and larger amounts of pollution make life more difficult for people adapted to space. Ironically, this is the inverse issue the Awoken faced when leaving the Distributary.
Awoken anatomy is uncanny if you look closely enough. Most traits fall within expectations (eg resistance to radiation, increased reaction time) but adaptations like tapetum lucidum can still startle people who aren't used to seeing them. Experimental traits, which are common in later-generation Reefborn, make some seem entirely inhuman. And the ability to track Guardians by their Light will never not be creepy.
Experimental traits include but aren't limited to: pointed ears; nictitating membranes (i.e. "third eyelids"); and genital slits [for Awoken specifically created for deep space missions].
Due to a history of bio-engineering, cybernetic augments are seen as unnecessary and rarely utilized outside of eutechs, and later, Techeuns. Fully robotic components, such as exo frames, are practically unheard of and often met with pity or revulsion.
The 891 are forbidden from seeking information about their lives from The Time Before (aka pre-Collapse lives), as it is considered a "distraction" from Mara's plan. Descendant Awoken are also discouraged from pursuing such info unless it is considered pertinent to their mission.
Queenslaw has been partially lifted in the Reef, due to the influx of Guardians after the Battle of Saturn. Many things once considered illegal or taboo are now acceptable, and some things are even encouraged. Unfortunately, not everyone agrees with these "sudden" changes and it has done little to reduce tensions between factions, most notably the Gensym Scribes and the Last City's Cryptarchy.
-
Reefborn sobriquets often refer to relationships (Uldren "Queensbrother," Taranis "Rivensmate," Petra "Covensdaughter"). Earthborn nicknames are often more individualized but still invoke a sense of interconnectedness (eg "Swornsister" Takara, Avraam "Firstborn").
Although the Awoken are known for their music (for ceremonies, parties, mourning, etc.) Earth-derived music seems just as violent to them as the Guardians who enjoy it. Knowing this, RZ-3 intentionally made a playlist to "scare" Petra on missions, and has successfully startled several Corsairs by belting out the lyrics to "Teenagers" while doing patrols.
-
[official grimoire / lore books: The Maraid (D1); Marasenna, The Awoken of the Reef, The Dreaming City (D2, general); The Forsaken Prince, A Tangled Web, Ripples (D2, Uldren/Crow), Ecdysis (D2, the Emissary)]
[specific lore that Tickles My Brain: "Holdfast Bond," "The Supremacy", "Third Gift"; "Crow's Best Night"]

Old drawings of some trials armor. I did sub in the Techeun’s Regalia mask though. I thought it was a better fit if that makes sense? It gave more of an appearance akin to Rah than the flat mask.

wait so what else is up with awoken amethyst besides the reflection thing
oh boy oh boy oh boy do I have an essay for you! it's mostly irl nerd stuff, but!!
Awoken amethyst is nothing like amethyst from Earth! Actual amethyst is almost always purple [but can have blue as a secondary hue], usually has color zoning and belongs to the hexagonal crystal family. Awoken amethyst is blue, has no color zoning, and has a pentagonal structure [which doesn't occur naturally]. Also, a lot of it hums and glows!
It is so unlike actual amethyst that it has been compared to a variety of other gems/minerals, including azurite, fluorite, tanzanite, sodalite/lapis lazuli and agate. So far, the Oracle Engine seems to be the main exception:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"But some of it looks purple. Why is that?" Good question! From what I've seen, it comes down to lighting and backlighting. In the Confluence and Blind Well, Awoken amethyst looks purple in the shadows but is blue when you step back. In The Corrupted strike and seasonal areas like the Coil, it's the opposite - it's purple from afar yet blue up close. The Last Wish raid shows it in purple backlighting at first, before giving way to its true color (blue).
Something something "nothing is as it seems," I suppose.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is one more exception besides the Oracle Engine, however. And I think it's an interesting one. At the very back of Harbinger's Seclude, by the statue of the first Awoken queen Alis Li, the arches are clearly purple and resemble polished irl amethyst. What does it mean? I have no idea, I'm not a lore expert. But I wouldn't be surprised if it did mean something.
Tumblr media
Other than that, I only know the standard lore stuff about Awoken amethyst. It's a symbol of Awoken royalty, it can be created thru Awoken favor, Techeuns use it to enhance their powers, it was once given as diplomatic gifts to Eliksni, so on and so forth. And yes, Mara did wish for the Dreaming City to be built out of amethyst.
Being a rockhound and aspiring mineralogist [and Awoken lore enthusiast], I'm always on the lookout for amethyst-related lore, but this is all I've got at the moment lol. Also I don't know if I actually answered your question but thank you for the Ask!!
Here is a screenshot of my Hunter as a token of my appreciation:

Radio message, bursting into tears.
Petra: My queen, the Techeun await authorization to position your personal Harbinger. Their second, missive, they say. Mara: I already - never mind. Tell them I will see to its deployment myself. Petra: If I could speak bluntly, my queen... you seem distracted of late. Mara: Just mulling on history in a different light. Taranis and Riven... against all odds, they found each other and chose love instead of misery... Until I tore them apart in the Great Hunt. I locked Riven in a gilded cage and hid her away. Petra: In doing so, you saved her from destruction. Mara: For good or for ill, I do not regret my part in the Hunt... nor the second chance we have given the Ahamkara by seeking Riven's eggs. And I'm glad she and Taranis could meet again, in a way, before the end. They... they have me thinking of Sjur. Petra: I see. What was she like as Queen's Wrath? I was too young to know the Awoken behind the legend. Mara: Sjur was the soldier we sent to break the tide if it ever turned against us. Petra: If half the legends about her were true, she should've been the one to face the curse. Mara: You're both warriors in your own right: she a war cudgel, and you a master-crafted blade. But she would have been untested as Regent. You gave our people hope when it had burned away in my absence, and held it high. You forged an alliance with humanity. Guided the Techeuns because you've walked their path. No one else could have ruled in my place. Any further questions, my Wrath? Petra: Just one. What did you love about her? Mara: I could list reasons until Sol burned out, but they would be... lacking in complete truth. We do not love rationally. We just love. Petra: I'll keep that in mind, my queen.
Sobbing forever on the floor
