(re: "Awoken headcanons") Once again thinking about how different generations prefer different descriptors; how diaspora/emigrants make new dialects and slang; how people who are learning a new language - or grew up bilingual but aren't fluent - encounter mishaps semi-regularly and always have a story to tell because of it.
Once again thinking about how those situations might apply to Awoken who know Speech [the Awoken language] or are learning it.
Later-generation Awoken speaking differently than the original 891 and Distributary Awoken, in the same way modern Japanese differs from older Japanese.
Earthborn and Reefborn using different words for items, like how backpack can be "mochila" and "bolso" and "backpack."
Awoken Guardians practicing Speech with their friends, and every time they forget a word ("Erð þið með <bottle opener>?") or mishear one ("An eagle is stealing chickens?") or mispronounce it, they have to start over because everyone is laughing so hard.
Earthborn forgetting Speech as a way to rebel. Earthborn being told that they're "not actually Awoken" if they don't know Speech. Awoken Guardians using Speech as a way to reconnect with themselves and their heritage. Reefborn changing words in Speech to bridge the divide between Reefborn and Earthborn, to unlearn old prejudices, to remember they aren't alone in the universe and that the legacy of the Awoken extends far beyond the Reef.
Once again thinking about language. ;A;

it's always "you gnawed off your own leg to escape like an animal caught in a trap" and never "why didn't anyone try to help you out of the trap" or "why weren't you provided with any other resources to escape the trap with except for your own teeth"

I regret to inform you that Discord's new Terms of Service includes an arbitration clause. You can find it here https://discord.com/terms/#16. This clause includes an opt-out, which I have transcribed here:
You can decline this agreement to arbitrate by emailing an opt-out notice to
[email protected] within 30 days of April 15, 2024 or when you first register your Discord account, whichever is later; otherwise, you shall be bound to arbitrate disputes in accordance with the terms of these paragraphs. If you opt out of these arbitration provisions, Discord also will not be bound by them.
These clauses are underhanded ways that corporations seek to deprive you of your right to participate in class-action lawsuits and your right to a jury trial. (This does only apply to us users ,other people still spread the word though )

Cassava and the Last City
Okay, so Destiny's setting is Post Apocalyptic. Which means that there's a wide swath of flora and fauna that are most like extremely extinct.
Eris didn't know what a pineapple was for example.
So in the spirit of random ass worldbuilding. I propose the idea that cassava and cassava based products are one of the main starch sources in the Last City (inspired by that one throwaway line about cassava farmers in Question After Question in Orin's lore book Ecdysis).
So here's a list of cassava dishes I think they'd eat in the Last City.
Cassava Noodles: We know the ramen industry is still booming in the City Age, so using cassava to make noodles for it isn't too far of a stretch.
Cassava Cake: Also known as bammy, is a small fried flatbread made from grated Cassava. This dish has it's roots with the native Taino of Xaymaca (now known as Jamaica) and is currently still made on the island to this day. Seeing as pilgrims continually make the trip to the Last City I would like to believe the dish also made the journey with them.
Cassava Beer: It's been deduced that The Last City is located in South America, most likely Chile or Argentina. Alcoholic beverages made from fermented cassava have been consumed in the region by Indigenous people since pre-Columbian times, it's not unlikely that the practice survived into the City Age.
Candied Cassava: a sweet holiday dish consisting of cassava sweetened in honey, it's a food that had significance during many Meso and South American holidays but particularly during Día de Los Muertos. The practice of candied cassava survives with it's inclusion during Festival of the Lost.
Also big thanks to @kare--kare for teaching me about candied cassava for this!
