Imagine if you will.
WB want to produce a new movie, get a crew and cast together and all that.
None of the cast and crew actually do anything. They just sit there, if they even appear at all.
Because they know there's a ridiculously high chance all their hard work will be flushed away as a tax write-off. So why bother?
WB find someone to wrangle an AI into making the movie instead. Wrangler is like "only if you release Batgirl and Coyote VS Acme first."
Which they can't -- they already deleted all the footage to make room for the AI to work with.

These "tax write-offs" don't point to how streaming companies are losing money...
...rather to how much money they can afford to burn.
Like... movies cost tons of money.
A TV episode alone costs tons of money.
Anti-Union exploitation may be part of the production but pouring so much into something that may only see the light of day for a week if at all is a waste.
A waste of art that these companies claim to value and a waste of money that they sunk into these projects.
All those titles they wrote off? They could've made them that sweet, sweet green that makes them squirt in their slacks.
But nooooooo, it's the threat they and their shareholder overloads hold whenever they have to see numbers go down in their personal bank accounts.
It's about conceding to those they consider "beneath them" that their wrongdoings aren't "just business."

In the wake of COYOTE VS ACME I'm reminded of how much news of Warner doing this is drowning out info of other films written off for Taxes. I wanted to know to see how it compared to how Warner's doing it know but there isn't much I could find that gives an direct answer. The only 2 other's I could really find were Corpse eaters (1974) and A woman of the Sea (1926). There pretty much the only non Warner bros films I can find reliable info to back them up. I'm sure it happened & it wasn't as public as today but I'm shocked how little info I could find before 2022.

Zaslav: god of tax write-offs
Considered evil by everyone else, he is a minor deity that studio executives pray to whenever they need to shred a creation down to its very existence. Once he takes a creation it will never be seen by anyone ever. Spoken only as a legend of something that possibly existed at one time. Occasionally the prayer fails and a creation makes it through or his will is defied and it leaks. This is rare but welcome by most people who consider him a demon.

If streaming services are creating new shows with full intent to cancel them after a certain number of seasons, regardless of viewership and how happy the people who work on the show are, why are we still getting so emotionally invested in them?

Warner Discovery strikes again with news of a Tax write off most specifically another Scooby-Doo movie. "Scooby Doo and The Haunted High Rise" which was going to feature the Hex Girls. It just needed to be animated but that's when executives decided to write it off. I said my thoughts on Tax writes offs several times on Twitter They need to have laws regulating them, they are unfair to the people who work on said media, they take away value from a studios library, they should be straight up illegal ECT. But one other thing that bothers me is that when I tried too look into other shows & movies written off for Taxes all that comes up is news of Warner bros Batgirl & the Scoob Sequel. I know they did some before with Symbiotic Titan & Megas XLR, but what about stuff not from Warner bros they can't be the only studio that does this right? So far the only none Warner media I know that was wrote off for Taxes was an old horror film called Corpse Eaters. I don genuinely want to document media this has happen too but it's like finding needles in a hay stack. Links to the list.
