Mysterious Lotus Casebook 蓮花樓
Spicy goji and lotus seed soup
麻辣枸杞蓮子羹
Recipe from the official drama artbook
Prepare the lotus seeds* let it soak in water a little. Wash some rice** and put it in the pot covered with water up to half the pot, add the lotus seeds when the water is boiling. Let it stew on low heat. (Play with the dog a bit, weed the plants some) Add some dry chili, goji berries and rock sugar. Gulu*** a little and it's ready!
Personal Notes:
*I you use dry seeds, soak in water for the night, save the fragrant water for the soup, open the seeds to remove the sprout otherwise it will give a very bitter taste to your dish.
**just a handful, or it won't be a soup. I'd suggest using glutinous rice, it taste better for sweet soups, or at least round rice ("sushi rice")
***when it's boiling again
- Traditional Chinese Medicine would recommend serving this hot but it should be tasty as a cold treat as well.
- The title says 麻辣 so it implies the use of sichuan/mala pepper 花椒. You can try if you enjoy the taste. (I personally dislike it and that's my main issue with ShìChuan cuisine, I can't have the 辣🌶 without the abundance of 麻.)
- If you don't trust HuaHua's bìchá-poison-damaged eyesight "creativity", replace the chili with dry red date/jujube 紅棗 to make this dish more traditional.

Splatband Analysis - ω-3
To finalize this little series (till the Side Order artbook comes out and gives us info on the new bands (please)), we end it with my favorite band, ω-3! These fishy foes are the ones providing the tunes in Salmon Run, and I’ll be real with you and say they’re one of the Splatbands that I think has a big chance of showing up in the games. The games gotta focus on the Salmonids at some point, and they’re the most well known individuals as of now, so the chances are pretty good for them to be used to expand salmonid lore.
But enough about that. Time to see just how tasty these guys are.
The Band
In Salmonid lore, musicians hold an important role in Salmon Run as morale boosters. Individuals that show off talent in performance will unite to form bands, with ω-3 here being the best among them. In fact the Omega symbol is actually a title itself that is only bestowed to said “fattiest” bands, meaning their skill is without question. I assume this title also comes with ownership of the big venue in Jammin’ Salmon Junction, since it’s decorated with their logo, what appears to be a stylized version of the ω symbol. (Since it’s stated to be a title given to the best bands, I’m assuming the same thing applies to the building.)
There isn’t anything said about their relationship with each other, at least not directly. Considering their personality quirks, it’s safe to say they butt heads a lot (one forgets to take in others feelings, one is disrespectful to everyone, and one never listens to anyone). But I think we can infer a bit out of the way they play music. Specifically, there’s a lot of Call and Response in the songs, where one member plays a tune, and then another plays it back. It happens a lot between the cellist and the timpanist, but the DJ occasionally plays a part in it too. Each member also gets a solo in a song, where their instrument gains more prominence over others. Deluge Dirge, Fishing Frenzy, Frothy Waters. I’m no music scientist, but considering their personalities, it feels like they’re constantly competing for attention, despite being able to work together otherwise. Like, one of them just randomly breaks into a solo before dialing back and rejoining the group.
The Valiant Green Flame Born in Jigokudani
The timpanist here is, uh, the timpanist.Odd fellow in his late 20’s with an eyepatch made out of a colander, no reason given, though the eye underneath does look dilated. He’s got a lot of passion for drumming, playing with all of his heart and soul, as well as being determined and always striving towards his goals. Doesn’t do well with picking up other people's feelings, but very good at inspiring other salmonids with his rhythms. Compared to the others, who are said to be intentionally rude, this one feels more well intentioned, as it just says they fail to pick up on other people's emotions. Like they aren’t deliberately rude to people, they just don’t notice.
Salmonid fact, the titles they’re referred to with are mainly earned by having done something in regards to their tribe. We can infer some things from these titles as a result. The Valiant Green Flame here is pretty clear, he did something of great bravery at some point, which tracks with him being determined and goal oriented. What that thing was, we don’t know. He’s called a Green Flame, so maybe that has something to do with it? Salmonids have green on them by default, so, that’s something? Eh, we’ll move on now.
The Faithful Servant of the True Salmon Emperor Hizunamasu
The DJ here is the youngest member of the band, young adult or teenager, with plenty of tongue piercings and a personality that reflects that. A contrarian who opposes anyone and everything, and shows no respect to their fellow members. A damn good DJ though, which is probably why they’re still on the band. Basically a rebel with zero respect for authority, and who just seems to dislike everything. Well, all but one thing, it seems.
Their title is “The Faithful Servant of the True Salmon Emperor Hizunamasu”. Now, someone stated to be disrespectful to everyone being a “faithful servant” is definitely contradictory. Who is this “True” Salmon Emperor? Why would they be loyal to them? The questions are mounting here. Maybe a future Salmonid themed story mode will explain? Who knows.
The Firstborn Child of Alkyne, the Hidden Blade of Yakiharas
The leader of the band, cellist, composer, and number one old man. 50 years old and counting, a surprising age for a species that doesn’t fear death. He’s very stubborn, with no respect for anyone or anything that isn’t the most radical of works. Incredibly high standards that, as it turns out, C-Side was able to meet. They made two covers of Clickbait, after all. I guess he’s a fan? Or at least C-Side has earned his respects.
Emotionally clumsy, he’s got a delicate site with a strong appreciation for atmosphere, but struggles to express himself outside of his music. Surprisingly awkward sounding for a salmonid, but he’s got finer tastes, for sure.
Onto his title, he’s “The Firstborn Child of Alkyne.” Alkyne is likely a tribe or settlement of sorts, probably the latter, and he was the first born there. And “Hidden Blade”. Now that’s something. I assume he’s got some fighting skill, since the blade part implies he basically acted as a secret weapon of sorts.

And that’s every band in Splatoon and Splatoon 2. ω-3 doesn’t have much content on them, but I love them all the same. God I hope they show up soon.
As I said, this is the end for the bands, but I am gonna do a “What I Missed” type thing later to compile any details I missed out on. Things like the Hotlantis wall of signatures, in which I’ve noticed some fun details. There’s one more thing too, but I’ll explain that in a separate post.

I haven't even started playing the full version of Silent Hope and I'm already finding some tasty bits of lore
So big thing I noticed when they uploaded the opening animation for Silent Hope a couple of months ago was the seven colored lights that fly out of the Abyss. Within the lore of the game, these lights are what guide the seven protagonists to the Princess and the mouth of Abyss: however, what I noticed is that each of those seven lights correspond to the seven magic elements within the world of Rune Factory. Fast forward to today, when I got my copy of the Day One Edition that comes with the artbook and a physical copy of the soundtrack, and I was delighted to discover that the lights do have significant meaning based on their color, though not in terms of elemental affinity.
Copies of Silent Hope come with a little booklet that is more or less a slightly expanded version of the game's prologue, and it features the seven colored lights from the Abyss actively seeking out the seven heroes based on particular qualities that they have as people. When the lights find their "avatar," the light disappears into their heart and guides them to the Abyss. The lights and their associations are as follows:
The yellow light, associated with Wanderer, represents hope.
The orange light, associated with Warrior, represents determination.
The purple light, associated with Rogue, represents justice.
The blue light, associated with Archer, represents kindness.
The pink light, associated with Farmer, represents love.
The red light, associated with Fighter, represents passion.
The green light, associated with Caster, represents knowledge.
Again though, I find it interesting that the colors of the lights correspond to the seven magic elements and when you combine the elements with the above meanings based on their associated light's color, magic within the world of Rune Factory suddenly becomes a lot deeper in terms of characterization. The chart basically looks like this
Orange = Earth = Determination
Red = Fire = Passion
Green = Wind = Knowledge
Blue = Water = Kindness
Yellow = Light = Hope
Purple = Dark = Justice
Pink = Love = Love
So, you know, next time you're playing any Rune Factory game that allows you to take villagers out into combat and the ones you bring with you happen to know some elemental spells, definitely take a moment to consider why they might be using those spells based on the above meanings. It might make even more sense now than it did before.

Success
Man, just got some new ideas what kind of Molluck stuff to draw... So yeah, I just felt like kinda recreating that one Molluck concept art piece like this since man, it's such a handsome piece of art and I love it! Though, this is still a sketch-like thing. He just looks somehow so pleased there that I wanted to keep that emotion here. But I have also wanted to draw Molluck around neon lights for some time, so I kinda combined these two ideas.
I feel like I have somehow understood how to deal with this paper, though I wouldn't use it for proper stuff and it's actually sketching paper, so yeah, just for sketching. I do like how crayon-like these colour pencils look and how well they mix and blend. I don't know how usual it is for artists to feel clueless about what they are doing... I mean, I just had no idea again how to create the colours of Molluck's head with this light but I could figure out good enough colours. It just feels like there somewhere I might know what I'm doing but my conscious mind doesn't...
Frankly, I'm unsure of what suit to draw Molluck wearing since it's unknown if this version of Molluck had a purple suit too... That one Molluck doll in the opening cutscene has that old design, but it might be a 'legacy thing', something that was created before Molluck got his new design I mean, and they didn't bother to change it. In the SoulStorm artbook it can be seen that first, they did use the New 'n' Tasty model (but you can also see that Gluk model in that Vykker's Lab's test cutscene thing; I still wonder who that Gluk is, just cannot be totally sure if it's Molluck or not... He owns the SoulStorm Brewery though.). But I personally prefer this suit for this Molluck, so I draw him wearing it. Dunno if he has multiple different suits or if he is one of those who just has multiple 'copies' of the same outfit...
But yeah, I also got another idea that I tried to figure out first but I wasn't pleased enough with my realization idea of it, so I let it be for now. But that idea was related to the shady side of his business. But despite of realizing that side of him, I'm still unable to see him as evil... It's just much more complex than that and I don't like to simplify things being just 'good' or 'evil'. He didn't found RuptureFarms but was sent to lead it. But it seems that the SoulStorm brew was developed during his time, at least SoulStorm gives this impression. It also came to my mind to think how Molluck called Abe 'uneducated', which strengthens my view of that Molluck has been taught to be like this, grown up having these views, but he also lives in a cruel world, so he gotta do what he needs to in order to survive. Man, I really wish to know how Gluks are educated... Like, how and what did Molluck study...
But I do love this Gluk, no matter what he has done. I just don't wanna care about moral stuff here. If he is a bastard, then we are bastards together! Yeah, like I have said multiple times, I'm a 'Glukhugger'. They have just been always my fave species in Oddworld... I cannot help it, I just love them!

Haunted Doll Watch!! That’s Delaine in the striped chair (haunted doll 1) and the harlequin doll is Luna (haunted doll 2)
Books! Mostly witchcraft, Wicca, and New Age junk that I snagged for free out of a donation bin during my library days. Yes it includes Big Blue Buckland and To Ride a Silver Broomstick. You can’t see the nearly-complete Kyron collection behind the Pagan Family book but it’s there. Also yes that’s a fanbook for the MXTX series.
The Chris Chan art is on the top shelf next to the tiny treasure chest (which contains old, old Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab scents).
World Band radio from my dad. Journals and notebooks down there.
Literature shelf 1: Joyce and Pynchon and Pratchett but also a first edition of New Frontiers of the Mind which was about to get weeded at a library. Naturally I grabbed it. Also Sister Karol’s Little Book of Spells and Rituals which is so odd and I love it. Rando army officer’s guide that once belonged to a Rosicrucian. No joke.
Tasty-smelling unused candle (unused) with silver butterfly, Nendroid boxes, MXTX books lying down (because they tend to bend when standing up). Imported stickers.
Bottom shelf is a lot of foreign language: Japanese novels, including Memoirs of a Geisha, Misery by Stephen King, and one titled God Is a Gun. Again: donations that I grabbed. Couple of manga because back in the day you could score Japanese manga at conventions. I miss those days. It was fun. One book in Japanese about “Getting Along in English” and another on “adulting.” Also the Glitch game artbook. I miss Glitch so much. The lantern is disassembled because the batteries leaked and I need to clean it up, sigh.
Literature shelves 2+: drawing books, Japanese craft book for cat houses, Cormac McCarthy my beloved, The Practice of the Presence of God. BCP (baptism gift to me as a baby) and the Bible in Chinese (another donation). Teacup for gin (it’s the cucumber one, yes). Random bottles and jars because I love them. A Course in Miracles both volumes and teacher’s workbook (more donations). V.C. Andrews because I sometimes have no taste. Haunted photograph, Arthur, is in the ripped-up looking case to be protected from sunlight. Animal Crossing: New Horizons-edition Switch dock (I didn’t want the paint/decal to get scratched). Little tiny chenille chicks used for pranks. People in a bag for Sashimiko cosplays. Japanese fashion magazines and Gothic & Lolita Bibles. The Red Book sitting on a children’s book in Chinese, partial view of sewing patterns. Unseen: more books stacked on the floor.
Literature shelves 3+: with Saint Dymphna, patroness of those with mental illnesses. Listen, I’ll try anything. There’s Big Blue Buckland’s, couple more Llewellyn magic(k) books, the Normal Tarot book, and the third copy of City of Bohane (I love that book but not enough for 3 copies; long story). Tarot cards and Lenormande cards. Russian language book. Imported stickers. Random electronics bits (cords, &c) and office supplies live in the two bins.
On top you’ve got Senor Misterioso (he glows in the dark) and his real saint figurine self, Doctor Jose Gregorio Hernandez. They are counterparts. Lantern. Fake succulent. Rando room spray. SACRED TUMBLR BRAND SHOELACES!!!! Aforementioned haunted doll, Luna. Egg cup with blessed salt.
On the other side, egg cup w/ salt (alt. view), plastic palm trees from my old desk in the library, “fake” fountain pens and more imported stickers. Fake flowers mostly from cosplay, bowl held by claws (Target Halloween 5 or 6 years ago), cup with a jubilee of pens. Xie Lian bookmark 💗 Tiny gashapon and blind box doodads. Wooden jar.

Someone tries to “suck the venom out” when someone else is stung on the lips. They end up sucking like a vacuum cleaner and are embarrassed to say the venom was really tasty.
Sunny wants leg hair. (According to the artbook, “everything Sunny wants, Kel has”.)’
Mr. Jawsum eats sushi. He responds to an accusation of cannibalism by saying, “that’s business, kid.”
Sunny memorizes the first lines of the Bible (in Japanese) just to intimidate people.
Sunny concludes God (of the Bible) is evil because he forbade Adam and Eve from eating apples, and rants about the health benefits and happiness associated with apples.
Spirit Mari gently calls Sunny a freak because of his newfound obsession with eating apples (in an emo way).
Sunny’s last name is not Suzuki, but “Sizzletwister”.
(Based on the idea the Headspace outfits are all pajamas): in the final battle, Omori is wearing an animal onesie as pajamas.
On one reset, Omori's pajamas are just…sleeping in the nude. (This is the shortest Headspace cycle.)
(Mildly Dirty) Hero needs to use the bathroom in the middle of the night at Basil’s house. Still only half-awake, he shows up at the Basil and Sunny fight and chastises them with “Safe, sane and consensual, guys.”

This is so evil because if you ask me to come up with 10 of any category I can not do it but I will try
1: Luxray hehe :3 he is da best :DDDDD (also my pokesona/secondary sona is based on luxray/zoroark)
2: Oh shit I set up THIS pokemon by including details in the first one. It's zoroark, big hair.... good colors............ How can you NOT love this beast
3: Flygon, the shapes are all rlly nice on this design I like how sharp the edges are AND THEY GAVE HIM LITTLE PILOTS GOGGLES??>????>.?aSD'FLAQWER so good I love them so much
4: Ninetails, this one is def just bias cuz when I was a kid I traded for a shiny ninetails and DEMOLISHED the Nimbasa train battles w that fucker. So technically I should be putting the shiny version here but WHATEVER the normal version also has suchhhhh a nice fucking color palette and design inspo
5: Altaria, The colors are just mmmmmmmmm so tasty also I had an Altaria who carried me through BW2 Elite Four when I was a kid iirc, I considered making my pokesona one of these guys before I realized it's hard to really make them anthro LOL
6: Haxorus, metal asf. Next pokemon.
7: Reuniclus, LITTLE GOOEY BRAIN BOY HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE HIM, I just love the concept of this pokemon in general, creating goo armor w psychic powers rules. I know when I was a kid I had this artbook of all the new gen 5 pokemon, I forget how I got it but i think it was some barnes and noble promotion or smnth they gave em away for free, anyways I remember so distinctly that I would just stare at this dude I loved him so much
8: Scolipede, This is another gen 5 one (can you tell what pokemon game I grew up playing), but come onnnnnn bug horse dude its a horse thats also a bug its a fucking bug horse come on thats so sick.
9: Goodra, I swear I like goodra for TOTALLY NORMAL REASONS. Fr tho there aren't enough purble guys in pokemon :3, we need more purbe lads. Also Goodra just looks so kind, in a puppy kinda way

How is tok? Ngl I feel like I kinda want to get it but Rainworld plus hi-fi rush is expensive birthday stuff. Speaking of which what are you going to do for your birthday? I plan to get games then sleep. It's my first day of the week I get to rest on after all. Mom is getting me some wax melts. She likes to get me cheap crap for my birthday and it wouldn't be so bad because she's a retiree but she often gets stuff I did not ask for. This year she asked! Yayyyy! That's a great thing and real progress because I'm not gonna stretch her wallet thin. I'd just like some trinket I like. Sis wanted an artbook. I also hate cake. Too sweet. I would eat a steak or taco though. Prolly going to make beef tounge to eat. Been meaning to make Julia Child's receipt for a bit. The episode of Jamie and Julia I watched that gave me the idea is a classic. I'll try to transcribe the idea so if you want the recipe let me know. I think it gets cooked in wine though, so you're prolly not going to be allowed to make it. Your parents could! Have a bite of Bulletproof by La Roux to cleanse your pallete.
It's fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I recommend it to anyone who played botw but I get holding off, Nintendo stuff tends to be very expensive.
I'm planning on having something lowkey!! my parents gave me an early bday present (Cirque du Soleil performance!!! Having the intermission rn) which ig the gift itself isn't very lowkey, but my parents won't be here on my actual birthday so gkdbfksbgj. Also I adore cake, I could eat it for all my meals for a week
