I'd like to coin a new gender:

Celestigender

Meaning "a gender that relates to the greater forces in the universe around us, such as black holes, nebulae, or supernovae.

I want to stress that ik this gender is similar to many other xenogenders, however, I want to emphasize a key difference for me.

Many Celestial-aligned genders are identified with masculine, feminine, neutral, or void indicators.

But Celestigender isn't meant to be defined by any of those words, or any other like them.

There is no masculinity. There is no femininity. There is no neutrality. There is no absence.

Like the stars that are born and the black holes that swallow them, it simply is.

Some pronouns that I am using include: Nov/Novs/Nova/Novas/Novaself

The flag is meant to symbolize the shifting of the sky (pale blue) to space (dark grey) to the beauty of the supernova (pale violet).

One Piece Chapter 986 - Initial Thoughts

That’s some good juice there, though I still have some reservations Chapter 986 has its translations at last and it’s time to see what made the editor cry

Spoilers for Chapter 986, Support the Official Release

Dang they did Pound dirty like that, he finally reunites with his family and they are just put into such an overload that they bounce in disbelief

We begin with Kin’emon and Denjiro strangely having done a full rotation around Onigashima to meet up with the other Scabbards, I guess only half of their unit raided each side of the dome

Kanjuro’s limp body lay as nostalgia gets the better of the Scabbards, though I still am not sure I believe it, why show the cut hand? If he is dead (his paintings did disappear) then I’m fine with that too, it’s just dead bodies don’t tend to “POF” when being walked past...okay so maybe the week has gotten to me, turns out Kin dropped his hat over Kanjuro’s head, still reserve that he may not be dead yet

Izo here though to lift spirits, saying you’ve survived worse though...The Payback War leads to questions but that is a red flag

Back to Kaido’s ultimatum though, it’s unsurprising that Orochi’s men would join Kaido, they weren’t really one for respecting the Kurozumi, though the Oniwaban and Mimawari do seem to have doubts, interesting too was how Kaido acknowledged and respected if the Samurai refused to join him

Hyou however is about to throw fisticuffs over this dishonour, it does make me wonder though, could I really fault Orochi’s forces for choosing to live under a strong banner than die for an honor code you could still personally live by?

Things are not looking good for Nami and Carrot, who have been collected by Big Mom’s new homies and probably gonna be used as bait, I would have to guess that someone steps in for them, Sanji is the obvious choice but how’s about Robin, or Brook! He can Soul King those Homies away and he and Franky have been AWOL for months

Meanwhile Shinobu becomes accounted for as she charges in to rescue Momo

The Kozuki heir himself is given a lifeboat by Kaido though, his growing disappointment in Momo reaching a point where he doesn’t even want him to be Oden’s son, so he gives him the chance to leave that shadow, In a way it’s the same ultimatum as Orochi’s forces: dishonour your culture to live, or die

Yamato is getting kept up to speed too, now they know that Oden’s bloodline lives on and so do his retainers. I wonder if it changes them in any way, they wanted to ‘be Oden’ partly to achieve Oden’s will because they thought nobody else was left

The cuffs actually come off at last, seems that Luffy still needs to focus a little to use his Goken Armament, but at least we won’t faff about with that. It’s strange that Yamato as strong as they’re implied was so surprised by it too

News of Luffy and Yamato’s presence though has begun a convergence, Ulti and Who’s Who pictured (wonder where Drake, Maria and Pay-Pay are), Usopp and Chopper are now going in to save Momo from what looks like the storage room, Chopper seems to imply they’re around the numbers so that means God Usopp’s gotta slay some giants

We get a Supernova shot as well; Law be sneakin’, Kid looks a bit bloodied but having fun and Zoro is still not trying to exert himself. Only ones missing are Killer, Drake, Apoo and Hawkins for it to be all the Wano Supernovas (unless Bege somehow ends up in Wano from the cover story)

Thinking of Luffy and his parents, Momo refuses Kaido’s life boat, declaring himself to the world and finally cementing his goal, he wants to be Shogun, and he basically does it the same way Luffy does his Pirate King speech

Kaido did not like that though, and the crowd laugh at his ‘foolishness’, but as a blow is about to be made Yamato’s cuffs blow up! Kaido really wasn’t kidding

So of course, as any child would if they discovered that their parent had legitimately imprisoned them with explosive cuffs, Yamato denounces Kaido as their father. Though they are really choked up about it, the last panel of their hand is weird too

Luffy with the nicknames, Yama-o. I dunno if it’s some joke, Yama is a god of death but that’s as far as my knowledge goes XD turns out it’s just the same a Tora-o, so it’s Yama-guy. Luffy respecting them pronouns even though I’m not certain if Yamato still identifies as he, would be an SBS one for clarification

Luffy does that badass bait and switch ‘the raid has started, but not for us!’ - From the Back come the scabbards as Jack is given a blast from the past

Izo quickly disarming King was surprising, Neko disarming Kaido was even more

Mid Brag though Kaido sees it, the image of Oden before he was last cut, he still tells his men to be ready but he’s off the balcony already thanks to Kin and Denjiro’s lunge

Sunacci In Fucking Deed!

A big chapter of course, we are officially starting the raid now But it is still very crowded, and we haven’t even seen Brook and Franky, let alone Caribou, Apoo, Jimbei, Robin, Sanji, Hiyori, Drake, Marco, Perospero or Killer in this chapter. Straight off the bat I am still unsure if Orochi or Kanjuro are dead, I feel there may be more to it, but maybe the Nine Scabbards prophecy by Toki wasn’t for Orochi but for Kaido, and it is he who will know the brilliance of the dawn? This chapter mainly belonged to the Scabbards and Momo, the latter finally gaining his courage in the face of death. The Luffy and Yamato stuff was a bit simple, I am still not on Team Yamato for Nakama and Luffy getting their name wrong feels like it could be a hint (I can’t remember, has Luffy every gotten the name of a future crewmate wrong?) but who knows at this point Usopp and Chopper have Numbers to deal with, Law, Kid and Zoro are walkabouts, Nami and Carrot are captured, Sanji nowhere to be Stealth Black’d, it’s not even by the slightest bit evenly matched given that two Yonko are here. And while I expect Shinobu to make it to Momo, I don’t expect Kaido to be killed by the Scabbards like that.

But alas, I did not cry at this, maybe there’s some hindsight required or maybe the editor is a bit soft, we had a similar thing with a My Hero Academia chapter which while tense was not tears level for me. Ah well, good chapter all the same.

Oh, and mercifully no break, colour page incoming as well, time for Oda to wack us out again with unusual colour schemes

people really want to separate nounself pronouns from other neopronouns, and if you're looking for a way to look only for neopronouns not based on any existing words, the solution is not saying that nounself pronouns aren't neopronons.

Make a word for pronouns like ze/hir and ae/aer and other sets that aren't nounself pronouns.

nounself pronouns are neopronouns.

so if you want a way to look for non-nounself neopronouns, then those kinds of neopronouns need their own name!

How about just novapronouns? it's short and to the point. Neo is the greek word for new, so how about nova, the latin word for new, for neopronouns that aren't nounself pronouns?

Novapronouns = pronouns like ae/aer, ze/hir, ect.

Nounself pronouns = pronouns like bun/buns, star/stars, ect.

Neopronouns = nounself, novapronouns, and any other pronouns that fall under this umbrella.

Neopronoun is the umbrella term, and nounself and novapronoun are more specific categories under the umbrella.

And for extra fun, pronoun sets that create actual new rules and do away with the -self suffix at the end or have a pronoun replace contractions can be called supernova pronouns :) because it's an epic name. (can be spelled with a space or as all one long word)

Supernova pronouns = xiy/rik/ix/sirav, izi/(ito)/av/avi/fiself (ito replaces any contractions that would otherwise be izi'd or izi's)

BIOGRAPHY

(TRIGGERS: alcohol, foster care, social worker experiences, mental health diagnosis, addiction, arson, and law enforcement encounters)

“He fell through the cracks.” It was one line that stood out to Bast as he read his case file the social worker had left sitting open on his desk as a youth. He was never placed into foster care. He should have been. However, having attractive and highly charismatic addicts for parents meant that the storytelling and explanations for why things weren’t quite right was superb. From a young age he learned that if you were nice, polite, and could lie through your teeth that a lot of doors of opportunities opened.

“Large and unstable family” was another comment from the file but that one didn’t rub him the wrong way. It was true. His mother slept around and his list of half siblings made the Brady Bunch look like a joke. He stopped attempting to bond or connect with the youngest of them after he was 17 and left home.

“Diagnosis: Oppositional Defiant Disorder” - He remembered being more offended at being called “odd” when he was going for more of a ‘badass’ vibe when he was a teenager. He later understood the diagnosis to mean that he didn’t listen to conventional rules and was often stubborn just for the sake of taking control over a situation rather than actually having a problem with what was asked.

His first short stint in Juvenile Detention was right after he left home and was couch surfing with some friends when his girl-at-the-time’s parents accused him of arson when she broke up with him. He was there when the fire lit but he sure as hell didn’t throw a match at it. He convinced himself the girl set him up.

The incidents that led him to his current destination at Polaris were sporadic but eventually he caught onto the fact that he had the unfortunate knack for setting things aflame when he was upset. Sometimes it was as small as his cigarette burned down far too quickly. The worst was when he caused a house fire after his dealer attempted to throw him under the bus for some shady pill trading he had nothing to do with. No one was hurt but the explosion spooked him. He avoided confrontation at all costs after that.

Much to his surprise, the “police” officer who pulled him over for a legit DUI ended up being a Scout who worked for the Ursas. The Scout informed him that he would be coming along and there’d be no choice in the matter and that he knew all of his history with fire setting. And the shocking part was that he did know. From the explosion all the way to how his last cigarette flashed.

INCLINATION

Kepler is a supernova on the brink of implosion. To understand a star’s life cycle is to know that a star has the most energy right before it combusts and eventually folds in on itself and turns into a black hole. Kepler’s intentions of shaping Sebastian’s life are unclear as well as reckless, however, there doesn’t seem to be an overtone of malice. Only a far reaching last ditch effort to prove that this star can accomplish something before it vanishes.

Been working on Andy as a concept more. Details under cut

Her race of aliens is now known (tentatively) as Planet Gardeners or Star Tenders. Haven’t decided. They’re old. very old. Old as balls. Like around big bang or even from before old. Extremely long lived, and their role in the universe is to watch over and tend fledgling planets.

Physiologically, they’re hard to describe. They have two eyes and a third... well it’s kind of an eye? But nobody except them knows what that one does. No nose, weird structures where a human’s ears would be. They have a mouth full of crystalline teeth and some people swear they’ve seen a tongue. You don’t see it more than once.

The rest of their bodies are hard, and in what would be considered their trunk area is their core. See, they don’t have blood. It’s pure plasma, hot and bubbling. This is their core. Their body protects the core. It’s super durable, and it has to be for what it’s protecting. They have three legs, but the third usually stays close to their back as a spine. It’s like a tripod, basically; they fold it out when they need it. The rest of their bodies are covered in what could be described as crystals along the head and neck. Some have it trail down their body, but they tend to be older.

They don’t have what humans would consider gender. Instead, they fluctuate between colors: blue for the youngest, yellow for medium, and red for the old ones. Some, the oldest elders, are small and dull. They have burned and yet not ceased to exist. This is important, due to how a Star Tender reproduces, which plays a part of their role.

Star Tenders don’t really have a home world to speak of. Nobody in the galaxy remembers where they came from. Even the oldest lived races say they’re ancient. Their home base is really close to the formation of the big bang, so that’s their best guess. Nobody really goes there. It’s not because they’re not welcome... but...

They’re weird.

There’s something about them, the way they’re always watching, that unnerve sentient beings. A fully trained tender who has a planet or system assigned to them is something else entirely. It’s weird for something to be that old to be so ethereal feeling, but that’s a race of ancient stars made solid for you.

What are they tended and watching for? The glorious, shining day when whoever is living on that planet is ready to join the rest of the universe in the galaxy wide space journeys. There’s a lot of things to look for, watch out for, and red flags to keep in check.

When the dominant species is still young they can help by prodding and poking but once a certain phase (usually sentience and banding together) happens, they’re mostly guardians. They can interact, but mostly it’s just watching for good or bad signs.

If shit really starts to hit the fan and it looks like the dominant species on a planet might really do harm to the universe (or in the case of some worlds, the planet itself is fatally flawed) the star tender can confer with the elders. If the decision is reached, then the unpleasant work begins. A star tender digs down deep to the very core of the planet and then releases the energy stored in their core in a huge blast that destroys it.

This doesn’t always destroy the tender. They have a few bursts in them, usually resulting in a color shift. If they’re still there, someone goes to pick them up for reports and selection for a new world. If they’re not... well, that’s even more important.

See, Star Tenders don’t reproduce like anyone else. They die and are born in massive supernovas at the end of their lives, after one last bang. When the dust clears, there’s a seed; a nebula. That’s going to become a new tender. These are scooped up and carried to a nursery planet where they can solidify and wait to begin their training. The cycle continues, again and again.

Now... we have Andy. And boy, does she fuck the whole system up.

Her parent of sorts, Cassiopeia, was a yellow ranked tender who had to destroy the population of a planet around where the asteroid belt is. It messed them up something fierce and instead of going back to reassignment, they stole a space ship and headed anywhere but fucking there. When the fuel ran out, they wound up on what was going to be Earth.

Now, Earth is just a fucking clusterfuck. It’s wobbly and funky and somebody crashed a fucking moon into it. Funny enough, that’s how the last tender died. Since Earth didn’t have a tender anymore, Cass just settled down to wait and see what would happen. They weren’t officially tending, just curious. Not like they had anything better to do.

Cass watches humanity develop and becomes invested. That’s a no-no. A star tender always has to be impartial in order to benefit the universe as a whole. No getting friendly with the locals. Of course, that’s just what they did as they followed humans from the very beginning.

Eventually, Cass winds up in fuckin’ Ohio of all places (something called them, they don’t know. Shit’s weird on earth) during the 70′s. They meet someone, get interested, and become friends. They know this is a terrible idea from eons of interacting, but they do it.

That eventually becomes their undoing as they wind up dying on January 1, 2000. Of course, from their death spawns a little nebula that DEFINITELY should not have been born on such an awful planet for cultivation. Mineral content’s all off, who forms a Star Tender in Ohio of all places? But that’s where Andy was born, right in good ol’ American soil.

And she doesn’t go to a nursery. Well, there’s a nursery at the local research university, but it isn’t the sterile, impartial conditions a Star Tender needs to grow over thousands of years. It’s an actual nursery with cribs and soft toys and people who are curious about her.

See, this is a funny thing about Star Tenders. They need to be raised properly in the nurseries to be good at their jobs. As nebulas they’re... suggestive. In fact, you might call them a shiny little sponge. The worst thing that could happen does: Andy, even before she had a name or identity, imprints on humanity. Instead of taking thousands of years to learn and grow, she begins to mimic a human’s growth and hit their milestones. As it turns out, she’s basically a human in mind and Star Tender in form. That includes somehow picking up she/her pronouns. Nobody really saw that coming. But hey, let her do what she wants.

Of course, even she doesn’t know that. Nobody got that much out of Cass. They just think this is normal. With Earth being such a clusterfuck and Cass never reporting back, the Star Tenders forgot all about it. Never did they expect a blue Tender would be there.

Well... they’re gonna find out when she winds up on YouTube and stars using her powers, but that’s for another novel.
