and if christian told her that she couldn’t have anyone, then he too couldn’t have her intelligence that helped bring his team to success.
and when the rumours of her contract’s expiration went around the pit lane— every team scouted her. after all, this horner was an important asset to red bull’s success for this season and the season ahead of them.
she could’ve accepted scuderia ferrari’s offer. amongst the desperate teams that rolled the red carpet for her, the scarlet team offered her a large sum of money. they wanted her knowledge in car development as much as they wanted her expertise in driving.

Weekend Update 03/03/2024
Hello! This update will be a bit shorter than others. Due to school and other things I haven't written or read as much as I normally do. In fact, I'll need to push back one of my series because the outline for it doesn't look right at all. 🥸 I'm feeling more moody and my smut fairy is back. Not that I can't write fluff, it's just in shorter bursts. To sum up:
Two Hearts by the Ocean will be delayed by a week or two (hopefully I can get the outline to cooperate with ideas).
Roc & Doc is updated less regularly so it's not affected.
March Spring Prompts are ongoing. I've been keeping them under 1k so shouldn't be any issues there. I did several of them ahead of time so I'm working on the last 2/3's of the month. I think. There's 10 or 11 done currently. Ugh math.
Florida Heat and Foul Play are both smut so they're safe.
Weddings 101 with Dieter should be fine as well considering what I planned for the next chapter. Not sure when it will be out.
The Lake between us is still on schedule. (Out later today I believe and then bi-monthly.)
Diddle Disco Dieter is being beta read, so maybe this week.
Follow up to a Din Djarin one shot I did still pending. It doesn't have the right feel yet.

Premise (from ao3): Dean started working at a local auto repair shop in Lebanon, Kansas about a year ago. His coworkers don't know much about him. Except that he has a wife. Or maybe he doesn't. But he has a kid. Who is either a toddler or a high schooler. Who is either named Jack or Sammy. He also might have a best friend named Cas, but that also might be his wife.
Truth is nobody knows what to make of Dean. In universe, where nobody dies and Cas and Dean get domestic and Dean doesn't realize the mental hoola-hoops he's causing his coworkers to work through.
My recommendation: This outsider POV has a really fun look at Dean and Cas's relationship and centers around their anniversary. A nice quick read if you're looking for something light.
Sixpence by tiamatv T, 10,055
Premise: Dean and Cas get married, but things don't go exactly as planned.
My recommendation: Some angst stemming from a vital misunderstanding, but at the core a very romantic story with a great resolution.
Broadway Musical by Griftings M (very light), 12,453
Premise: AU where Sam stays at Stanford, Dean and Jo are destined to bear two sons to become the vessels. The angels try and fail to set them up, so Castiel decides to go to Earth to get them together himself.
My recommendation: A classic comedy full of romantic hijinks.

Premise: Dean who is now a mechanic and Cas who now sells goods at the farmer's market raise baby Jack together.
My recommendation: Super cute baby Jack fic (part of a series).
profoundly bonded (by law) by sobsicles E (only comes in at the end, the rest is very pg), 20,130
Premise: Dean and Cas are retired and living together. One day Cas asks to Dean to marry him (just as friends) and Dean says yes because he can't think of a reason not to.
My recommendation: Simple, sweet, domestic.
Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover by ImYourHoneyBee E, 26,300
Premise: With Cas back from the Empty, Dean is eager to share his feelings, but Cas doesn’t believe him. Dean will do anything to convince him.
My recommendation: This has the tag "Dean being a simp" which I think sums it up nicely lol. Just Dean doing everything in his power to woo a disbelieving Cas. Very cute with minimal angst.
A Hero of His Own Story by ioascc E, 26,779
Premise: A canonverse au of sorts on one of Chuck's other versions of Earth where Dean is not the righteous man, but ends up meeting Castiel anyway who joins him and Sam on hunts.

Public Domain Day 2022
OMG forgot about Public Domain Day! Happy Public Domain Day 22 (2 days late)! Some really good stuff this year including the original Winnie the Pooh book, The Sun Also Rises, Bambi, and a ton of other works! As the years go by we get more and more sound recordings and films since their preservation obviously increased over the years. While only a few hundred thousand go into the public domain this year, that number will certainly go into the millions in a few years time. We're also nearing the talkie era and next year The Jazz Singer will be PD with a deluge of sound films to follow. Remember once a work is in the public domain you can do pretty much anything with it, so go ahead, get creative!

End of the year bingo, courtesy of ao3commentoftheday.
This year was rough for me for inclement brain chemistry and other things getting in the way... I still have a backlog of WIPs that I've been meaning to get back to. And then there are my translation projects. Whew.
The details of what I have circled are under the cut.

Returned to a fandom I had left: I revisited the first arc of Warriors on a whim. The result was Blue Eyes, because I'm too much of a cat nerd to not imagine deafness being a reasonable concern for Cloudkit. I was pleasantly surprised to get my first rec on that one! (I'm still a lurker, truth be told.)
Learned a cool thing from [...] writing a fic: For the aforementioned unfinished fic, I've been reading quite a bit about the Nanban trade period. (My one Setsuka-centered WIP...)

Fell in love with a new headcanon: Soulcalibur lore geek-out time! I like to imagine Kong Xiuqiang deep in the temple sanctuary, just about to steal the Krita-Yuga sword for Xiangfei. With all three of the sacred weapons before him, the Kali-Yuga rod that he had been chosen to inherit is finally within reach. The thought of taking it instead tempts him, if he must take only one... Until he remembers that Xiangfei could be gone from the temple right now, so he grabs the sword and runs to her, and the rest is Xianghua's backstory.

6. What is a fandom you will never write for?
...Fairy Tale. It’s just. The memories. Oh my god. That was the first fandom I ever wrote for and it was such a distaster because I was such a shitty writer. Uuuurgh - it physically makes me cringe to think of those days. Smh. I kind of ruined that fandom for myself, lmao.
12. Do you want to break your readers‘ heart or make them laugh?
Break their hearts. Over. And over. And over.
I’m not a sadist, I’m seriously not - but there’s something special about the angst genre which just calls to me, and making my readers cry is my the ultimate goal of this blog :D

Over there, the fics you see are exclusively tied to what time you log on and how far back you scroll, so don’t feel bad if you’ve written something and I haven’t mentioned it because it’s pure luck :)
Morningstar Café by demoncow97 is Lucifer x Simeon and it is perfection, every step of it (so wholesome omg)
Endangered Species by wintercelestial is Lucifer x Diavolo and it still makes me smile because of how fluffy - definitely among my favorite om! fluff fics
You'll have to ask your dad by DefenstrationProtestation (Sand_Cursive) is a 15k long character study of Lucifer and I’ve never read something which portrayed emotion so well (and holy fuck, op’s vocabulary is next-level)
The Purrfect Match by spicy-rainbow-pizza (Slowpoke_Curry) shows a cat!AU of Diavolo x Lucifer through the lens of Barbatos - and this might also be my favorite DiaLuci fic of all time just because it’s so adorable
To Set the Worst Things Right by Shardinian is among the darkest fics I’ve ever read, but op’s characterization of Satan is beautiful. Please. Read the tags on this one. I had to physically stop reading more than once, because I was so disturbed.
Checkmate by Okoru is ongoing, but it’s beautiful. DiaSatan, which is a rare pair - but OP is doing a phenomenal job
sudden and new by indiavolojones is my favorite fic by indiavolojones, which is saying a lot because I honestly adore every single thing they’ve written. It’s Asmo x Solomon, and it was written so well that I still think about this AU
the prince's consort by crestedhearts is some crushing angst, something this series is filled with. It’s centered around Diavolo and Barbatos and it is beautiful, from start to finish
Cause You Don't Really Want to Go by polandspringz is the best Mammon fic I’ve ever read. It takes an extreme angle on his treatment from his brothers, but the conclusion...is perfect. MC is in this, but it’s not an x reader - but its message and execution is stunning
Operation Hot Potato by seraphinite is fucking. Brilliant. Ugh, it really might be my favorite Lucifer x reader fic of all time because the premise is so beautiful and the MC is so easy to project onto - I’ve reread this too many times for my own good.
intertwined by migraineroom is some wholesome Barbatos. And I’m a die-hard Barbatos fan <3
gently forced by luxettenebrae sends powerful messages about rape and friendship. And how the two cannot coexist within the same person. Levi-focused. It was terrifying to read. Look at all the tags before you start.
Carajillo by indiavolowetrust is my favorite OC fic. I recognize the stigma around them, but holy fuck. The plot. This one hits different. Barbatos-centric
Where Their Duties Lie by MayoraSadist is the fic which inspired Have Strength, My Lady. It was one of the first OM! fics I’ve ever written, and my heart never recovered from the angst
my salvation, my my by sawankos is my favorite asmo x simeon fic. It’s the kind of beautiful, soul-crushing angst which makes you want to give up yourself for these two lovers to be able to be together
Devil Doms by joonie_beanie features all the characters and it is pure smut, from start to finish. Super indulgent, but I adore every second of it - oml op’s writing style is on point
The Hardest Lessons Are Learned Alone (But We'll Pass the Test Together) by BBASLML is part of another larger smut series, featuring all the characters. It actually follows plot without being boring, and I love op for being able to do that
Ecdysis by AngelusLorelei is some fluff and angst, featuring all the brothers + the angels. Beautiful. Lovely. Elegant.

ever wanted to find a very specific c!dream fic but not been able to? ever wanted to browse a particular category of fics but struggled to manage ao3? or maybe you’ve just wanted an absurdly long list of dream smp fic recs that are sympathetic / not hateful on any character and haven’t been able to find one !

the idea is that you submit the title of your fic, the link, and the name of the author (and you can include more than that if you want!) and i will read it and make a little post on here summing up your fic and tagging it with specific tags so people on this blog can find it !!
this is specifically c!dream oriented but may also include fics with others as main characters where c!dream is also a main character :)

Phew! Finished this months ago, but finally got around to taking photos.

Ok, I don’t really know how to sum up the impact this fic had on my life so

Basically, reading this fic got me interested in BL Chinese web novels, and as a result I’ve started learning Chinese and plan to go to China this summer (or next) to cram as much Mandarin in my head as possible. It also led me to see a gap in my field of research re: China, so I’ve shifted the focus of a lot of my studies/time/research Eastward.
Needless to say, I rec this fic.
This was my first attempt at a coptic stitch binding, and this seemed to be the perfect fit for this story. I like that when you open the book with this binding it lays flat (similarly to a secret Belgian binding).
Red thread is a motif that pops up in this fic, so
I like how neat the stitches look when you get them just right.
One thing I will say that is rather cringe is that on my copy I tried to translate the title of the book on the front cover—knowing what I know now from the little Chinese I’ve studied, it is probably egregiously incorrect. Thankfully, I omitted it from the author’s copy.
This was a pleasure to bind, and as always with Bett’s fic, it was a pleasure to read!

"Who's that, Harry?" Nick asks again, but this time he raises his eyebrows and smirks. Harry knows Nick is just teasing, and that he's not really looking for new Harry Styles gossip, but, um. He might have found something. Accidentally.
Harry opens his mouth to speak, but all that comes out is another 'um'. He really needs to work on translating his thoughts into words. But then it probably wouldn't be any help right now, would it? His mind is as blank as a newly erased etch-a-sketch.
"Oh," Nick says again, this time gleefully, seemingly having picked up on Harry's distress. "Looks like we've got a story here! Are you going to call or delete her number?"
Her number. So Nick thinks it's a girl. Well, Harry can't blame him: 'Lou' is kind of an androgynous nickname. His stylist's name is Lou.
But this Lou, well, Louis, he's kind of, really, really not a girl. He's really pretty though, which, is something.
(Or: AU where Harry's in One Direction, Louis isn't, and they reconnect over a game of 'Call or Delete'.)
note: this was so funny and cute and well written, and everyone was characterized so perfectly!! i adored the chemistry between louis and harry, this fic kept me smiling for the whole time while i was reading <3

For a second, Louis considers saying no, to show Harry they’re truly on the same boat through all of this. But he nods in the end, reaching over for Harry’s hand as the doctor flips a switch. Noise fills the room then, and it takes a few seconds for the sound to become clear enough for Louis to make out the baby’s fast heartbeat.
“It’s really fast,” he voices his thoughts out loud as he uses his thumb to tap against the back of Harry’s hand, replicating the rapid rhythm of the baby’s heartbeat. It takes the younger man a little while to figure out what Louis’ doing, but a huge grin breaks out on his face as soon as he does.
“Is that them?” He signs with the other hand, his own eyes starting to tear up when Louis nods.
OR: Harry is deaf, Louis is pregnant. They figure it out.
note: i'm not a fan of mpreg or kid fics in general, but i stumbled across the fic post for this on my dash and the summary sounded really intriguing to me, so i had a go at reading and it did not disappoint!! it was really sweet and fluffy but also so touching and heartbreaking in some parts. plus, i really enjoyed how harry and louis worked together and supported each other.

In sum: He may be an expert, (as proven by the .32-cal Beretta Alleycat Harry found strapped to his back) but ex-agent Louis Tomlinson will explode like a busted bullet misfiring in a broken gunbarrel if Harry can find his trigger.

Hi Days! I'm a huge fan of your work and your tumblr blog bc you give so many naruhina fanfic recs and talk about your stories, etc.
To sum it up, you're my favorite person lol, I'm a bit shy so I'm asking this as an anon, but I wanted to tell you something random just because I've always just thought about it and maybe you would agree or comment on it.
Have you ever listened to mitski? If you haven't I recomend you do bc she's amazing, but anyways I was listening to a song of hers called "washing machine heart" and it reminded me of naruhina, like the fic "together you and I" but different you know, like naruto only married hinata because he couldn't have sakura, she was his second option and every time he looked at her he wished and pretended it was Sakura, so Hina tries her hardest to look pretty and try to be the person he wants, always getting saddend by the idea that she isn't the one he wants, she knows his heart will only belong to Sakura. She let's him trample all over her heart and use her because she loves him unconditionally, maybe cry to her on some nights because he longs for Sakura's love that will never come.
I've read so many fanfics and I've never encountered one using this concept, I'd write it myself, but I'm not good at writing, maybe I'm reaching but it could inspire an angst story made by you or just a prompt or idea/concept for anyone to use. The hurt in this could be inmaculate and I bet a good writer could bring everyone to tears if they read a story like this. You don't have to do anything ofc I'll love you either way, I'm not meaning to push you to write a whole story with this concept by any means or to even post this ask, it's just something I made up/ related to this certain song, so I wanted you to see it, perhaps share your opinion or thoughts on it or just think about it. Naruto finally makes it to the Hokage’s office, having had trouble shaking off fangirls on his way. He can immediately tell he’s the last one there, even though it’s the eve of the Rinnegan Festival. Tense expressions greet him, the atmosphere somber.
Sakura whips her attention back to the desk before them. “Rokudaime, with all due respect, I don’t think Naruto belongs on this mission.”
Her behavior has confused him all night. First moving away from him so that Hinata would sit between them at Ichiraku when Hinata could have just sat on the other side of him. Then pushing him to follow Hinata back home. He said aloud that he’d be seeing her later, and that he wanted to catch up with everyone first, but Sakura just glared at him...
She’s been pushing him away, more and more every day, breaking his heart to smaller and smaller pieces...whether knowingly or not, he’s not sure about that, but she’s never rejected him from being her teammate on a mission.
Worried, he meets Kakashi’s gaze.
“I understand your concern, Sakura.” His tone is heavy. His usual careless attitude nowhere in sight. “Call it just my gut-feeling...you’re going to need Naruto’s strength for this mission.”

Hanabi was kidnapped.
Hiashi and Hinata are nowhere to be found.
“What do you mean...?” Naruto finds himself asking. “I just saw her. We just saw her. Not even an hour ago.”
“When Sai reported Hanabi’s kidnapping, believe me, Naruto, we moved to notify her family immediately. Anbu can’t find them.”
“What?” The last memory he has of Hinata abruptly leaving dinner and running off without hardly a word nags at him, inexplicably tightening his chest. “She’s fine. Hinata’s strong. She can take on anybody. No one would dare-”
“Naruto,” Sakura interrupts, her gaze cutting sharp. “She’s nowhere to be found. And as much as you believe that, no one is invincible. Not even Hinata. We need to form a plan, otherwise we’re losing precious time.”
“No one is invincible. Not even Hinata.”
An emptying numbness invades his insides, discomforting slickness muting him.

She was acting strange at Ichiraku.
Quiet, unusual for her as of recent...
But how was he supposed to notice? Should he have followed after her, like Sakura said? But they were supposed to meet at his apartment later on anyway, so why did she have to come out early like that and ruin the good time he was having? She knows how he hasn’t given up on Sakura.
She knows everything about him. She’s been his rock after Sakura tried to shut him down for good. So how can it be that she’d just disappear? There’s no way.
There’s just no way that she disappeared right after she left...

Hours.
Hours of wandering around in abandoned, desolate, war-stricken villages in god-knows-where, and nothing. No one.
He’s asking for the hundredth time, but he doesn’t care, he’s past the point of desperation, and anxiety-laced tension fills the air. “Taku, you really don’t see anything?!” The Hyuuga they have on their team led them into this godforsaken wasteland.
Taku turns on him aggressively, getting in his face in reaction, and yells, “What about you?? You think I’m not trying my best?! This is my family! Just because you’re Hinata’s boyfriend doesn’t mean you’re any more worried than the rest of us! You don’t sense her??”
No. He doesn’t.
His Sage Mode has never been so useless. In fact, he senses no one besides them in this place, and it’s with terrible unease that he begins to entertain the thought that she’s gone for good.
“There’s no one even here besides us! Nothing! Why’d you take us down here? Where are we even?! How do we get out of here in the first place?!” he argues back.
“Sakura-san was right! You don’t belong on this mission! I don’t know what Hinata-sama could ever see in you, I haven’t seen her smile in months!”
“What do you mean by that?! She smiles all the time! I’ve never seen her act so cheerful in my life!”
“So you fucking know it, too!” Taku glares at him with an incredulous expression. “That she’s just acting!”
“What the hell do you mean by that-”
And he doesn’t know what happened next, but Sai’s grabbing onto Taku and he himself is locked in Shikamaru’s shadow manipulation. Chakra’s sparking off his own hands, while blue embers warp along Taku’s.
“Calm down,” Shikamaru orders both of them. “We’re not getting anywhere if the two of you keep fighting.” He waits for Taku to loosen his stance.
Sai lets go of him.
Taku throws an insulting glare around before sauntering off.
Shikamaru sighs. Hard. “Go cool your head, Naruto.” He retracts his shadow, and Naruto wastes no time walking off in the opposite direction, far from wherever Taku is heading.
Yet Taku’s ridiculous words ring in his head. “That she’s just acting.”
But she said that she’s happy to be with him. That she doesn’t mind that he’s still in love with Sakura. She said that she’s just happy to be with him.
She said that. She did. And she wouldn’t lie to him, right?
She was just acting?
“You’re not going to finish your ramen?” he asked her on their date last month.
“No...” Suddenly, she smiled brightly, something she’s been doing more often ever since he mentioned that he’s always liked how genki Sakura is. “Do you want the rest of mine? I’m dieting.”
He scrunched his eyebrows at her. “Dieting? Why?”
“Well...” She looked thoughtful for a moment before seeming to come to a decision. “Naruto-kun, you like thin girls, right?”
He knew she was talking about Sakura. “...I guess...”
“I want to make you happy,...” she started. She bit her lips for a hesitating moment before continuing, “so I’ve been trying to lose a little weight.”
“Oh.” He didn’t know what to make of that. Unbidden, he looked her over.
“Can you tell?” she asked, her characteristic shyness lowered her lashes, yet she didn’t fidget under his examination, and he could tell how she was trying her best to have that confident persona he admires in his former teammate.
Despite her recent changes in attitude, Hinata’s still been so physically small compared to himself and everyone else. Under her jacket, he couldn’t tell if she looked skinnier or not, and even if she was, he doesn’t think she really needed to be skinnier.
But then she looked up at him with that heavy, hopeful weight in her gaze, and he couldn’t let her down. Not when she’s trying so hard for his approval.
He fibbed easily. “Yeah. You look really good.”
She shined another smile at him that made him feel good. Even if their relationship wasn’t traditional, he could at least still make her happy. He could at least tell her some sweet words and see her sweet smile and-
She was lying.
She wasn’t happy?
He never made her happy?
Then what was the point of any of it?
No, she must have been happy, right?! She said so! She told him so! Many, many times!
After all, he asked her. All of those times he thought she was faking her smile, he asked just to make sure, and she vehemently told him that she was really happy to be with him.
She said he could talk to her about all of it. That she could take on his heartbreak because her feelings were so much bigger than...
“Uzumaki Naruto.”
The unfamiliar voice has him leaping to his feet.
A man as pale as a ghost with piercingly icy eyes is floating down to him on some strange platform. “You’re really as pitiful as I expected.”
“Who the hell are you?!” He readies his stance. He’s not in any mood for games, and he’s ready to let loose some of his stress on this very suspicious character.
“Hinata’s fiance.”
“Hinata?!” Fire races through his veins, heating his feet, and he’s ready to leap at this guy. “Where is she?!”
“With me.”
His heart rate exponentially explodes, beating into his ears, his skin practically bristling. “Let her go,” he demands, and the threat of his words leaks from every pore of his being. “Now.”
The man almost snorts. “What makes you think she wants to see you? You only ever used her, broke her...” His collected expression hardens, and Naruto can sense that he has no intention of releasing her. “I’ll make her happier than you ever could.”
Several thoughts fly too quickly through his mind to properly process any of it, leaving only residual uncertainty and that deepening sense of his culpability in her sudden disappearance. But he doesn’t linger on the unpleasant sensations. “What the fuck do you know?!” And he’s charging at him, a Rasengan heavy in his hand.
The enemy is far more powerful than he appeared, immediately blowing him back with some kind of focused chakra. “Weak, pathetic.”
“GIVE HER BACK!” He replicates himself a dozen times, each of them throwing Rasenshurikens at the man.
Yet more of that strange yellow chakra protects him. He’s unscathed even under his shadow clone onslaught. “No. I gave her a choice, and she came with me. I’m just here to get rid of you, take revenge against you for her sake.”
He hardly comprehends the nonsense spewing out of the enemy’s mouth, and he rallies his clones into close combat, but the man manages to avoid many of the attacks while landing hits of his own.
Clones poofing away only to be replaced by more, frustration and fury starting to blind him into sloppier and sloppier moves.
“I love Hinata. That’s why I deserve her.”
He chokes on his own breath, and in his momentary loss of concentration,...
He’s falling.

aaannnnd that’s as far as I want to go with that. Imagine the rest of the team arriving in time to notice Toneri making his escape toward the sky, and I guess the rest of the story would sort of follow the rest of The Last...Naruto self-reflects a lot in a bundle of depression for a long time and yeah.

Hey Jen. I think you’re superb like in a (not to quote anyone but) you can sit and kind of admire what you’re like kind of way. So thanks for being awesome and enjoyable to this internet stranger. In unrelated matter, do you have any angst filled fics? I mostly read HL but I’ll dive into whatever as long as the pain is there. (If I can give a preference, I’m not so much into magic, fantasy, wolves, and sorts.) In these unprecedented times, I think I’d still need a happy ending though after the characters suffer terribly lol. If you find time to put something together for little old moi, I’d appreciate it very much. Thanks! Keep on keeping on! You’re wonderful!

I feel like I’m probably going to let you down here, though, because I generally don’t go too hard for angst (for one, it usually translates into longer fics, for two, some areas of true angst are just things I don’t really want to read for pleasure, like messy cheating aftermaths, abuse, character death, etc., and for three, I get lost in the sauce if I try too hard to dissect if something actually IS major angst versus, say, intense pining), but I’ll do my best! I’m going to give my dirty dozen here--my top 12 for hl--then I’ll dive deeper under the cut, with authors I love who write so much angst it’s tough to pick just one, plus other fandoms, too, in case you want to dive deeper.
Fertile Ground, Blake, 4.4k. Okay, in truth, so much of what Blake writes has gorgeous lashings of angst, so definitely read all of their fic (every fandom), but this one?? HOLY MOLY, it deserves to be separated and celebrated, Harry’s angst about fertility, howwwwww is this 4.4k, I ask, constantly?
sensitive to pressure, momentofclarity/ @gaycousinlarry, 4.4k. Hockey players and pubes and scent kinks, and yet there’s still this current of angst that thrums underneath, man oh man, would I read everything in this universe.
Everything You Do, jishler/ @jishlerfics, 6.6k. The third part of a stunning series, this one focusing on Harry’s gender identity and the Dunkirk haircut, and if you saw those recent gifsets with him wearing the beanie during training, yeah, this fic is alllll about it
i’m a captain on a jealous sea, devilinmybrain/ @thedevilinmybrain, 15k. A lot of jealousy on Louis’s part about all things Gryles, both real and imagined, I’m loving the vibes this author brings to it all.
taking tips and getting stoned, alison, 24k. I don’t think I can sum this one up quickly, but taxi driver Louis comes across singer Harry, and a lot of things change after that? God, that’s bad, but this fic is not!
hard to confess, @hereforlou, 24k. I adore Maggie’s writing so much, and she’s another one where I could rec at least three more here, but the one where Harry hides that he’s pregnant until the very last second? It’ll forever be the scorpio of mpreg fics, and I say that with the highest praise.
Maybe I Miss You series, 13ways, 28k. THIS SERIES, ooooooooffffff, the angstometer is off the chart, and then the last installment? Harry in makeup? This after all the sexting and boxing and hate sex and finally they figure their shit out? All of it is so good, and I’m eternally sad the author moved on (but jesus, I get it).
hush., Wankerville, 41k. Easily in my top five fics of any fandom, the softness and the cruelty, the growth and the real-life feels, an American high school AU that is still stunning and must have blown doors off back in that particular day (I’d also rec this author’s other work, esp. for angst).
every universe but ours, 28finelines, 49k. Okay, so this one has a little bit of magic that might annoy you, but it’s mostly in a multiverse way, like you’re reading a ton of AUs, but the theme itself has an angsty core, fwiw!
Truly, Madly, Deeply (10 Things I Hate about You), sunsetmog, 54k. I know I talk a LOT about this author’s ongoing wip, Harry Styles Cooks... (which is phenomenal, please do yourself a favor if you haven’t already), but this one? Angst ahoy, Harry auditions for XFUK without telling his boyfriend/friends, becomes a success, then comes home.
Time Passed, coffinofachimera/ @belialsmiracles, 66k. For every fic rec list I make, I always have at least one fic where I say, if you read nothing else, read this one, AND THIS IS IT, all categories, it’s simply astounding, life-changing, world-ending, and it kills me that more people haven’t left comments, but if it keeps shitty comments away, I’m all for it, I’ll protect this author/fic with my life. I can’t even begin to describe it, but if you want to know what the songs Fine Line or She are about, here you go! AIMH, Tokyo Harry!
The World Turned Upside Down, dogslpdi/ @dogsliampaynedoesntinstagram, 71k. I’m really iffy on historical fics, but this fic! This fic nails it! The detail and the emotion, the way you can feel the effects of the strike in so many ways, but also how HIV/AIDS is not that far off on the horizon, it’s just so well done. Plus, I adore Ralph’s humor and the way she tagged this both “minor angst” and “miner angst,” and if I can’t end an angst rec on a light note, what more can I do?
Let’s start with things beyond hl...lately, I’ve been reading a LOT of Untamed fic, and I feel like I should just point you to Liv’s masterlists because they are angst city (and fun city, too), plus she’s done a really good job of labeling them accordingly (right now, my fave angst is from chunk no. 2, Fire in the Blood, which is a case fic, but oof, I can’t wait to read even more in these parts).
I’m also just now getting into Merlin and reading a lot in that fandom, but it’s a bit scattershot at this stage (I haven’t finished the show yet, and I’m still working my way through one author who wrote 100+ fics, all of which are incredible; if you’re curious for something recent from over there, Phoenix wrote a short, angsty one that’s good and ouchy, this tangled thicket).
Speaking of Phoenix, EVERYTHING she has written for Cars (Lightning/Doc) is incredibly angsty, usually with that happy ending finale--I’d rec my current fave, but it’s a wip, so no happy ending yet, wahhh. Check out this link to the rest of them, though, I rec ‘em all!
I still have to watch the source material, but everything anyone’s sent me from Cobra Kai is INCREDIBLY angsty and so, so good, so I’m gonna bet there’s a fair bit of fix-it fic in my future, but we shall see!
Now onto the hl angst, ideally things you haven’t already read a million times before. Like I said earlier, this one’s kind of tough because I’m not into intense angst (major character/close family member death, messy cheating aftermath--though @kingsofeverything’s Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is fantastic, if you’re into that [messy cheating aftermath, not death]; actually, a lot of Lauren’s longer fics have a dose of angst, so dive away!)
Speaking of authors who regularly deliver angst, I have quite a few that I would say just go check out their works because almost every single thing they’ve done has it in varying degrees, you won’t be disappointed! These authors primarily write the hl pairing, and I definitely rec ‘em all: HappyPrincess, got2ghost, mediaville, and sedfierisentio. Authors I love who write Harry/other characters and do it in a hella angsty way include vondrostes, sulkingroom, radiodurans, and wishforwishes (I swear, I still think about call me anything you like at least once a month).

Any good canon complacent Klaine fics when they have great communication. Any season but please be super canon complacent. It could be after getting married, after the Scandels night in the first time, talking about Kurt moving to New York, talking after Finn dies. I’d also prefer it if it doesn’t have a lot of dialogue directly from the episode in it. I’m a slut for communicating Klaine.
There are so many Klaine fics that are canon compliant and provide great communication. I suggest that you take a look at our reaction fic tag. If there is a specific episode that you delve into further, you should definitely check out master episode related works at @todaydreambelieversfic.
