thinking bout fire emblem gryphons again and how youd handle them and also an explanation as to why in awakening theyre difficult to handle

i imagine wild caught, which is what i assume the canon awakening griffins are, you have to hood them like in falconry to keep them calm while you get them used to you and being handled while youre training/taming them and train them a bit like falcons because they arent used to humans and are so easy to freak out. among other things you have to fit a very pissed off not yet tamed animal with its own hood that has to be comfortable for it or else itll rip it off and go right back to screaming at you along with strapping bigass jesses and sometimes bells so it doesnt sneak off on you, strongleads to attach to the jesses to keep your giant bird of prey from flying off with you while youre training it. the entire process of bonding with a wild caught griffin is called manning and is integral to griffon riding so that the beautiful airborne speed demon doesnt flip you off it midair at the first opportunity. its not uncommon to keep these wild caught griffins for only 2 years before releasing them if you dont have enough room to build a proper habitat for them separate from your wyverns and pegasi but its also not uncommon for those who can afford it to keep them for the rest of their life in a dedicated mew(the actual real life term for a place to keep raptors but also very cute because big bird kitty(i imagine gryphon mews to be have bird aerie half cat cafe with swag ass dedicated kitty climbing wall shelves and trees))

but i also imagine that if you raise them from hatching you can domesticate them sort of like feral cats, and their easier to train raised in captivity, it gets them comfy with people and riders way quicker and you can even start newbie riders on them. theyll bond for life with their riders if raised this way, require almost no use of hoods or leads in training, grasp commands much beeter then wild caught too!

in my post game headcanon, i think after his minerva gets too old or injured to comfortably carry him, gerome ends up figuring the above bit out, revolutionizing griffin riding and doing alot for the species’ conservation. he rescues an egg from poachers and raises it as his new partner after minnie retires<3
