idk this has just been playing in my head all morning, if someone wants to add on or write an actual story, go for it. id love to read it!!

been binging 'humans are space orcs/space australian's' recently and its got me thinking

what if humans get on board with and see aliens and the aliens aren't surprised by our looks because were so different, but instead surprised by our looks because theres another alien species that looks just like us.

and obviously, being humans, we ask to meet this species. everyone is excited for this interaction, no one thinks much of it really; outside of the obvious shock that we have a look alike.

the humans get on board and make this long journey on the alien's ships (the humans ships wouldn't last this adventure, being fueled by EXPLOSIONS that don't take us near far enough.

obviously there are adventures, surprises, and learning while onboard. we are still different from the aliens after all- in fact maybe they expect us to act like this other species and we don't, at all.

eventually though, we make it to this planet with the look alikes. we go down to meet them, and every human who has these aliens in sight freezes with an eery, unshakeable, visceral feeling. the uncanny valley. except its like, ten times stronger than its usually ever felt.

the humans try their hardest not to show it, many of them looking for signs that they will be murdered on the spot. others don't even leave the ship, they couldn't possibly. not with this feeling of doom, of inexplicable, unexplainable terror.

many aliens are confused, wondering why the humans are acting so differently, is this how they greet humans on earth possibly? other aliens cant notice a difference at all. our faces and body language don't make sense to them.

this uncanny feeling eventually leads to some sort of chaos though, whether it be fighting, retreating, or even pissing their pants. the humans cant stay very long.

Danny has made a delightful discovery. Blob ghosts can in fact change their shape! Sure it’s simple shapes, but still! He has a school of flying blob fish and blob cats following him around and they’re adorable. And it’s not like most people can see them outside of Amity anyway, so they’re fine to follow him around as they like.

Though maybe he should have remembered that the most doesn’t mean no one can see them. Um, hello? Feral stabby child?? No you can not steal some of his friends??? Where are your parents????

i didnt post it on here but i talked about it on discord but au where ariane and elster do make it back from the penrose mission not for any of the reasons people usually want that but because i think by that point they'd be so dangerously codependent and weird they literally could not function in normal society and i think that's a fun idea

yknow stuff like ariane finds herself watching those same movies with elster that they did on the ship still because it's the only thing that feels familiar and safe anymore because oh wait the regular world has a LOT of stuff and now it's a sensory nightmare and i thought i wanted this but now its too much too fast and nothing makes sense now

ariane not responding when people other than elster talk to her and staring right through them because she'd gotten so used to hallucinating family members near the end she just assumes that's what's happening now so she doesn't even bother replying

elster doing everything for her and being unable to be separated from her for very long before she starts to freak out and worry something bad has happened to her. plus ariane being physically unable to care for herself at that point anyway from the frostbite she definitely has or whatever other injuries you want to give her.

neither one of them ever saying something like "were you talking to -me-?" it's always "were you talking to -us-?"

idk i just like to give them problems <3

i sometimes think about the context of white lantern kyle and how it's sort of canon the white lantern is seen as a benevolent figure that heals and protects the disadvantaged, a saint of sorts if there is any analogy in alien cultures to that (and boy, do they lay it heavy in imagery), a beacon of life and such, and then on earth he's just Some Guy.

it's uncertain how often exactly he returned to earth during his white lantern stint, but it's incredibly funny to imagine that since as far as i recall he's one of the few lanterns who kept a secret id he remains being Some Guy.
