There was a lady who seemed in her mid 70s. She was i suppose isolated at home and malnourished. As I said the worst combination to have anywhere in the world is oldage,poverty,isolation,depression, sickness and disability.

To add to this is something called as elderly abuse. Elder abuse comes in different forms. The elderly are more likely to accept and report financial abuse as compared to emotional physical and sexual abuse and neglect.

Now an elderly patient quite debilitated with absolutely bad oral care and absolute malnutrition what can you suspect?

The first thing that comes to our minds is neglect. Its very common in the poor households especially.

So thus patient was admitted with us and again the relatives absconded. I haven't seen the son ever since. But in contrast to my previous patient the current one was mentally fierce. She herself admits that her son won't come and can't come. Where does one get such confidence from?

Well whatever it may be looks like we will definitely have to arrange a home for this patient sooner or later. Still crossing fingers the situation may change and may never have to come to this.
