Literature Girl Insane and the Color Connection Theory

(Spoilers for DRDT’s Literature Girl Insane MV, as well as through Chapter 2 Episode 11. Vague spoilers for Super Danganronpa 2 and New Danganronpa V3. Because the images in this post are mainly designed to showcase the colors presented in the MV, there will be no image IDs in this post.)

Wow! Literature Girl Insane is… so much!! There is literally so much to look at that I don’t know how we’re supposed to handle it!!!

I mean that all in a glowingly positive way, to be clear. The DRDT creator has granted us an exciting puzzle that may take months to fully solve/analyze (or maybe we’ll never finish it), with so many facets that there are still things that I haven’t seen much of anybody talking about.

Speaking of, I’d like to take a look at the colorization of some of the lyrics! As per my eye, there are 15 distinct colors that appear in the lyrics of the MV. I distinguish the lyrics as “the words that are outlined in black (or white, when the color is black),” so any of the colored text in the background, such as the literary passages, will not be included in my analysis.

An important piece of information that I’ll reference a lot is the official colors that have been assigned to the students. That being, the color that the first letter of each of their first names gains when the students enter the Class Trial.

Because Xander never attends a Class Trial, he has no confirmed color, unless I’m forgetting something. However, based on his bright hair, I would have to assume that the color of that letter would have been a fiery red. It’s even on the opposite side of Teruko on the color wheel.

David has two colors; one for his inspirational speaker persona (yellow) and one for his depressed theater kid persona (gray). I don’t think J’s color changes between being listed as J Rosales and J Moreno. Although I didn’t put it on the chart, MonoTV appears to have no color, with all of the letters in its name remaining white. Some of my personal assignments will go against these color choices, but I think it’s still important to keep in mind.

Since Tumblr doesn’t want to let me use as many colors as I want, I will put in an image of what each color looks like the first time it appears. I’m going to analyze each color in order of how many times it appears in the MV, from most to least. That means the first color is…

Red

Red appears 28 times throughout the MV, and as you can tell, they’re very… edgy. It’s a very interesting color, given that there are multiple characters I think it could apply to.

The first option is Veronika. Her color is a bright red, and she’s no stranger to creepiness. Things like “go mad” and “you’ve killed so many” could definitely be words she’s spoken to her problematic faves like Arturo or David. The selection of “broken” could apply to her hidden quote: “once something is broken, it can never be pieced together in quite the same way again. The same goes for people.” If Veronika herself is something that is/was “broken,” going insane could apply to her as well. Some people have already called her delusional, which could fit right in with “self delusion.” With her chaotic attitude, I can also easily imagine her using the intense punctuation (!!! and !?) seen on some of the lines.

The biggest problem with this interpretation is that, frankly, I don’t think Veronika merits this level of importance in this MV. Now, that’s not to say that I don’t like Veronika, or don’t think she’s important– I love Veronika! I just don’t think she’s that important to David, who this MV is about.

They could have more of a connection in the future, given that Veronika has started simping for his dark side, but thus far they’ve barely interacted at all. The most damning rebuttal is the cast list at the end.

Would the color that appears the most in the MV really go to a character that doesn’t even make the supporting cast list?

The main way that I can imagine that Veronika actually is red is if she is the mastermind. That would explain how she could claim such a prolific color in general, yet why she wouldn’t yet be listed as a Main Role– because David (presumably) wouldn’t know that she’s the mastermind. If David survives for a while alongside mastermind Veronika, it would also give more of a chance for their relationship to develop down the road.

Still, it would make more sense to me if red did belong to a listed character; even better if one of the main roles. Someone like…

Option two: Xander Matthews.

Xander is obviously a key player in this MV, and like I said, I would guess that his character color would be red. Even if it was, say, yellow (for his eyes) instead, I don’t really think anybody could complain if he showed up as red in the MV.

The focus on the word “bye” would also fit Xander. He’s dead now, and David has clearly been thinking about him, so he could constantly be saying “bye” to Xander after the rebel “and disappear!”-ed from life. Xander had to treat his eye in the infirmary, so “medicine” could make sense for his character. “You’ve killed so many” could be something that David could imagine Xander saying to him in his guilt-ridden spirals. Although, as far as is confirmed, David has never actually killed anybody, including in his secret. Venus adds that “You’ve killed so many” could be Xander speaking to himself, stewing in his survivor’s guilt about the death of his family. She also says that “go mad” sounds like something a British person would say. You never know what she’ll have to contribute /lh.

Speaking of things Xander could say, though… I have a hard time imagining that he would say some of these things. I’m sure Teruko would tell me that I’m naive to have any trust left in the guy, but some lines just seem out of character for him, to me? Like, calling everyone idiots and telling people to “go insane” feels very different from how he acted in Chapter 1. Maybe if Xander was reflecting on his own “going insane” after he stabbed Teruko, it could work?

The line that stood out to me the most for not fitting Xander was actually “won’t change,” though. Man’s the Ultimate Rebel. He’s all about inciting change in people. Whatever this thing is that won’t change– David’s attitude, the mastermind’s wickedness, the continuation of the killing game– would he really be chiming in to say that it’s immutable? But, if I don’t really think that it’s Xander or Veronika, then what red person could be left?

Ah, right… the classic copout option, #3, Mai Akasaki.

I say “copout” because, overall, we know very little about her personality. Therefore, it’s easy to put words like “idiot” and “insane” into her mouth because there can’t be too much of a counterargument. It does seem like a pretty big contrast to her characterization as Unnamed Student (assuming that’s her), but given this series’ penchant for moral bankruptcy, I wouldn’t be surprised if her nice exterior hides a more sinister slant.

However, there are some genuine points in Mai’s favor here. First is the red color– Mai’s hair is red, and Teruko even notes that Xander’s red hair reminded her of Mai’s. Thus, if I speculated that Xander’s color could be red, Mai’s could be too. She’s at least in the Supporting Cast, unlike Veronika. “Bye” and particularly “and disappear!” would also fit Mai well, given her absence in the killing game. “God” is also of particular note, as it’s the first word in Mai’s roman numeral quote, “God is dead.” Mai also seems to be worshiped like a god among those who remember her (Teruko potentially excluded), and the MV notes her as “someone dearly loved.”

Those three aspects of God could be leading us to the conclusion that red represents Mai in this MV, and it’s that interpretation that I’ve decided to roll with. I promise I’ll pick up the pace for the next colors, okay?

Yellow

While Eden is the only holder of the color yellow as of Chapter 2 Episode 11, I think this color has to go to the man, the myth, the now-starless star himself, David Chiem. I mean, c’mon. It’s his MV. He has to have one of the most prominent colors.

But even beyond the yellow, there’s a lot that points to David here. Since I just mentioned the fading of the stars in David’s eyes, let’s start with “the falling slanted sun”. As the sun itself is a star, this line could represent both how the stars have fallen out of David’s eyes and how he, a star, is falling in the public’s perception. Given his determination to save his career, “ambition” certainly fits David’s character, and he “make[s] noise” every time he gives a speech, making people believe “what [they’re] told”. But despite his stage persona, he’s always felt “dead” and “miserable” on the inside.

Perhaps the most interesting line here is the “Let’s do that!”, which can be seen here.

Even if it’s a “let’s do that!” instead of a “no, that’s wrong!”, which means that David is arguably only agreeing with himself, the protagonist imagery here is exceptionally clear. Not to mention, every canonical protagonist post-Makoto has been able to access consent points as well.

I’ve definitely seen people out there theorize that David may become Despair Time’s protagonist one day, and while I found the concept merely amusing at first, the more evidence piles up, the more I’m forced to believe it may be true. So, if David is represented by the color yellow, this could be further evidence/foreshadowing towards his future role. If so, I’m particularly intrigued by the fact that yellow has both “dead” and “live”. It seems like David’s alignments and beliefs are still up in the air.

Green

Similar to yellow, there are two primary candidates for the color of green. And while Hu has a better argument than Eden did on yellow due to being listed in the supporting cast, her greatest competitor, Teruko, is also in the supporting cast.

Did you know that green appears thirteen times throughout the MV? Of course it’s fucking Teruko.

There’s a good argument to be made that, with her tragic backstory, Teruko is one who’s lived “a life full of much shame.” Doubly so if you believe that she has the “the killing game is all your fault” secret, which I personally do. Because she’s moved around so much and doesn’t seem to have many attachments to people, you could say that she’s “anonymous” in a lot of her actions.

Teruko “make[s] noise” frequently in both Daily Life, when she refuses to avoid the subject of murder and thrusts knives at people, and Deadly Life, where she maniacally laughs her way through solving the entire trial for those idiots twice in a row. However, due to her over-the-top lack of trust in anybody, I could still believe that David would see her as a “clown”. A smart clown, but a clown nonetheless. (She also had her sillier moments as well, especially when Xander was alive.)

The line that makes the least sense to me is honestly “substance of the arts,” especially given that it’s part of Veronika’s roman numeral phrase. Teruko doesn’t seem particularly artistic to me. Maybe it’s just meant to imply that she’s a girl with a lot of substance? If “the arts” were theater, it could be saying that her life is very tragic and dramatic? And if Teruko is a substantial, dramatic character, maybe Veronika would appreciate that? I’m obviously reaching, but I still do believe that green represents Teruko here.

Cyan

While it might seem like this color should belong to J, given that it’s quite similar to her character color, I actually believe that this color represents someone else. Namely, MonoTV.

MonoTV’s official character color is white, but its face is obviously a bright cyan. It even tells Teruko that its favorite color is blue in Chapter 2 Episode 3, so I don’t think that calling MonoTV cyan is a stretch at all.

The most obvious clue that MonoTV could be cyan is “dog,” which is pasted over “cat” (in yellow) at 0:37. The replacement of “cat” isn’t written in the original lyrics of the song, so the creator definitely intended for this to relate back to MonoTV. Why not give the mascot itself the line correcting the species? “No Longer Human” fits along with this creature angle as well.

“game!” is another obvious one, as MonoTV is the excitable host of this killing game. While “LET’S LAUGH” seems sweet out of context, in the killing game, it could seem much more heartless and robotic. The all-caps approach also makes it feel threatening. “cry” could also be a command to the students, like when MonoTV encourages them to create more drama in Chapter 1. I don’t remember a specific instance of MonoTV calling the students “foolish”, but it doesn’t seem out of character at all.

I couldn’t figure out exactly what a kapukapu was, unfortunately. It’s a reference to Yamanashi, a children’s book by Kenji Miyazawa, but they don’t actually describe what a kapukapu is in that book. When I googled “kapukapu,” it came up with a Sega character described as an antagonistic “orange cat creature with yellow eyes, a zigzag shaped tail, and big sharp fangs.” The creator definitely knows more Japanese than I do, but if they were similarly struggling on this one, they may have also googled kapukapu, seen “evil cat” and said, “yeah, that sounds enough like MonoTV.”

I should also probably talk about the “1”, “2”, “3”, and “4” portrayed at 2:43, which has shown up in the red, yellow, green, and cyan sections so far. These numbers representing Mai, David, Teruko, and MonoTV definitely feels plausible to me, especially if you throw in the wrinkle that David could become the protagonist. The qualification could be “mysterious characters with a darker side,” “characters related to the formation of the killing game,” or even “the most actively important characters at the end of the killing game.” This interpretation makes me more confident that these assignments are correct, although there’s obviously room for debate.

Pink

And now, onto a color for which I feel there’s basically no debate. If these text colors do correlate to characters, this color has to be Whit.

For starters, he’s the only character assigned the color pink, probably because it’s so prevalent in his design. I can imagine “Rolling with laughter and turning into clowns” paired with his XD laughing sprite, fitting how he’s the biggest canonical joke-teller in the cast. “heart” fits his Ultimate Matchmaker talent perfectly, while also representing how his empathic ways can make him the heart of a group. MonoTV literally mentions that he has “too many damn hearts on [him]” in Chapter 2 Episode 2. “painful”, meanwhile, can represent his secret, and how he represses the painful memories of loss regarding his loved ones.

The most concerning and confusing lines here are “brainwashed” and “degraded copy”. You could definitely pull these for mastermind Whit analysis, but since I’m not a strong believer in that theory (perhaps because I just desperately don’t want it to be true), I’ll go with another interpretation. Brainwashing could be something that Whit essentially does to himself, controlling his mental state and forcing himself to be happy. “degraded copy” could be how Whit feels about himself in regards to his mother. Although we don’t know too much about her, we know that he doesn’t relate to his dad, and he dyes his hair to be more similar to his mom. Since he idolizes her so fiercely, it’s possible he feels like he can never be as great as she was.

There’s always a lot to unpack with Whit “repression” Young, but… for the sake of post length, we’re moving on.

Gray

Despite the fact that we’re running out of colors at a rapid pace, I actually think this one is David again. Specifically, clipless David, after his color turned to gray. C’mon, he’s the star of the show! He gets special privileges.

The gray character feels very depressed. It doesn’t seem to care about anything, using vague terms like “whoever else” and “thing,” as well as taking “turbatus,” AKA “troubled.” David has already claimed to have a family history of depression, and although he’s a liar, I don’t know if he was bs-ing that one. Based on his worldview as portrayed in Chapter 2 Episode 11, it’s not much of a leap to assume David feels this depressing gray way.

The inclusion of “XI.” is quite interesting, given that that’s Mai’s roman numeral, “God is dead.” In my mind, this further cements a potential relationship between Mai and David (and that Mai is red and David is yellow/gray). Just look at the colorization of the quote “XI. God is dead”!

That’s both of David’s colors on either side of Mai. Maybe, as the protagonist, David will be the one to take down Mai, the “God”?

If gray isn’t a second David, I would suggest that this could be Rose. While she isn’t particularly associated with the color gray, “(turbatus)” is part of her roman numeral quote, and she has plenty of troubles of her own. Based on her hidden quote, “In the end, the only thing I can do is watch my wretched life go on,” it would be reasonable to believe she is also depressed. “whoever else” and “thing” could refer to her absentmindedness, and how she tends to forget things that aren’t important to her (despite her photographic memory).

Orange

So it’s a little random, but my best guess is that orange is Ace? Mostly because he’s the only true orange color in the class trial– Min and Rose have sort of orangey colors as well, but to me, they don’t fit the lyrics super well. Not to say that Ace does, but there’s more of an argument there to be had.

“shout” is the most Ace-like lyric to me. Most of his (amazingly) voice acted lines are screaming in some way. He yells a lot, whether due to stress, excitement, or anger. On that angry wavelength, “let’s play!”, though it sounds innocent, could be something bitterly yelled out at an opponent. Like, “oh, if you wanna play, let’s FUCKIN’ play, Nico/Levi/etc!!” Given that Ace identifies as a man, he would be a more classic “guy” choice than Min or Rose would be as well.

The repeated “that guy” puzzled me at first, but I did find a solution. The thing that was tripping me up was that the orange “that guy” is always paired with the green “this guy.” If Teruko is green, then why would David be putting Ace on the same level of importance as Teruko there? He and Ace have barely interacted!

But then I remembered that there’s one key place in which they did interact, and that was in the second class trial. Ace takes part in revealing David’s secret when he exposes the conversation David and Arei had in the relaxation room. And then Teruko agrees with him, saying that she’s always found David’s behavior suspicious. David could pair Teruko and Ace together in his mind as “this guy” and “that guy” as the main ones who exposed his secret. Whoever else was there doesn’t matter; they were the main ones at fault.

Plum

change!; like that; original; change!; a cup of poison

Purple time! This one is Charles, I’m pretty sure.

Charles has probably had the greatest positive character arc thus far (other than maybe Arei?), so him being “change!” is very fitting. He’s certainly urged Teruko to change for the better, and maybe he’ll do that for David in the future too. “like that” is part of “Do it like that / let’s live together!”, which could refer to Charles warming up to his classmates. Notably, that is part of VII., which is J’s roman numeral. J did possess Charles’ secret and tell him about it, but it’s not the strongest connection.

“a cup of poison”... does not bode the best for Charles’ survival! However, it could just be referring to his custom weapon being strychnine. Rose’s secret weapon is also poisonous in nature, but (spoilers for the post) I’m not sure she actually has a color in this MV. Thus, if the creator wanted to give one of their poison recipients the “cup of poison” line, Charles may have been their only option. It could also indicate that Charles’ strychnine is more important to the story than Rose’s turpentine (a concerning concept, given that the turpentine has already been involved in an attempted murder), but… who can say! (I am in denial)

Black

you; the track to the ideal country →; you; you

We’re running out of colors here, and it would be pretty weird if the second member of the main cast didn’t have one. That’s right, I’m saying that black refers to Xander, despite his red leanings. However, his color was never officially assigned, and his gloves are black.

David seems very fixated on Xander in this MV and its associated content. Thus, the triple repetition of “you” could indicate David repeatedly thinking about Xander throughout the days. Although, if Xander is the black text, Xander should probably be the one saying “you”. Perhaps instead, it’s about how Xander cares about and fixates on specific individuals, like how he noticed that Nico was alone at lunch and went to go talk to them. I’m giving the guy a glowing review, but it kinda seems like David is doing that too.

“the track to the ideal country →” also reminds me of Xander. As the Ultimate Rebel, he calls for country-wide reform. So, he could believe that he’s leading the way to the ideal country. Abstracted a bit, this could also relate to his motivations for attempting to kill Teruko. He may have believed that killing her was “the track” to save everyone and get them out of the killing game.

Although I wish I could give him a color with greater importance, this one makes a lot of sense to me. It is the first color that appears, for what it’s worth.

Dark Blue

cry; original; big

This one is… hard. I’m not super confident about it– “cry” and “big” do not give me a lot to work with. I’m going to give this one to J for the time being, mostly based off of a fringe theory I developed about “original”.

Yeah, “original”. That 8-color madhouse that I’ve been ignoring so far. To be honest, I don’t know what to do with it. It’s possible that “original” itself is meant to apply to all of the characters featured in it– the word is generic enough that I believe it could apply to all of these characters.

However, I was trying to figure out if this could be hinting at a Chapter 6 trial composition. Eight people seems like way too many for Chapter 6, but if you say it includes Mai (red) and MonoTV (cyan), you only need six surviving students. While casts usually roll up to the endgame with 5 people (based on how SDR2 and v3 went), all you need is to skip a double victim case or have a blackened-less trial to get up to 6.

Under this theory, that would put Teruko, David, Charles, Whit, and Ace in the Chapter 6 trial. (Do I really believe this is true? Not really, but, man, what a dream.) I don’t know exactly how much the creator is paying attention to balancing their final cast, but I have to imagine they would notice that Teruko is the only girl listed there.

That was the deciding factor that swayed me into calling this J over Arturo, as both of their colors are blue. I can see J as a survivor much more easily than I can Arturo, and she would be a second girl (or third, if you count Mai) in the trial. I’m definitely not super convinced, though, so take dark blue with a grain of salt.

Light Blue

cry; cry; idk!!!

So, this is… bleak. This person is not having a great time. Based on color, I’m saying this one is Nico. (That’s also why I didn’t mention them as a non-male blue person on dark blue).

While Nico is definitely less of a crybaby than people might have assumed based on their first appearance, it’s still true that they have multiple sprites with tears in their eyes. “idk!!!” could reference how they struggle to communicate with others, and never know what’s considered “polite” to say. “idk!!!” is also part of Nico’s roman numeral, connecting it to them again.

You could also read “cry, cry, idk!!!” as a timeline of what Nico has done so far in the story. They were anxious, got bullied, and cried a lot, until something in them snapped. What are they gonna do after they snap? Idk!!! Kill Ace, maybe? Either of these options, along with Nico’s official color, are enough to convince me that they could be light blue.

Soft Blue

You’re called an; the world

Hang on, isn’t there another blue non-man you haven’t mentioned yet? You’re right. It’s because I think soft blue is Arei.

Even without her class trial color, Arei is a character covered in blue from head to toe, so she would definitely fit one of the blue options. “You’re called an” reminds me of her for multiple reasons. One, she’s a bully who gives people mean nicknames, so it could be her calling someone else something cruel. Two, many aspects of her personality were derived from her sisters bullying her, so you could say that she’s defined by what she was called as a child. Classic cycle of violence type stuff.

“the world” is a little iffier, but there’s definitely still an argument to be made. In her rant to David and Teruko, Arei makes clear that she believes the world is an inherently cruel place, and that she’s only one piece of that meanness. If she ponders the state of the world frequently, “the world” could be related to her character. (She’s also my world, so–)

Mint

“Idiot”, pointless

Another character who is not having an excellent time! Well, if this alternative green isn’t Teruko, it’s probably Hu, as she’s the other character assigned green. That would also mean that we’ve cleared every character in the cast list, other than the mysterious M__ N____i(___).

While this is not my opinion, I think David currently sees Hu as a “pointless” “idiot”; another person in the long line of manipulable people that he was destined to control. He literally calls her a “fucking idiot” at 18:30 of Chapter 2 Episode 11. It’s also possible that this is how Hu is feeling about herself right now– she says in that same episode that “If no one relies on [her], then [she] won’t be useful anymore.” Since she wasn’t able to prevent Nico from attempting murder or see through David’s lies, she could believe her existence here is pointless.

Kind of an L, but I think this makes sense.

Orchid

doubt; shout

…um.

So, in the assigned colors, the only people with purple-ish pink-ish colors are Charles and Whit, but they’ve already been assigned colors– purple and pink, no less. The next closest person to being purple is Levi, so I guess I’m giving this to him?

It’s not like “doubt” and “shout” are terrible for him. He definitely has moments of doubt when it comes to understanding Arei’s mind games, or when apologizing to Ace. Speaking of Ace, “shout” could refer to the moment in Trial 1 where Levi snapped and threatened to strangle Ace.

I also don’t know if it has any significance that these two words rhyme. Probably not, just because I don’t really see how this would point us to any character, but it’s something worth mentioning.

We’re almost at the end!

Periwinkle

Part of the reason why I disliked giving Levi the orchid quotes was because his color fits this periwinkle color much better, but I digress.

For starters, let me say that I’m pretty sure this is its own color, but it could be that my eyes are deceiving me from staring at this MV for too long, and this is actually part of purple. In that case, Charles is also my world, so we good. (The other color assignments are subjected to my opinions as well. I tried screenshotting everything and bringing it into Photoshop, but it was coming up with different hexcodes for colors that were clearly meant to be the same thing, so I gave up and went with subjectivity. If you think something is assigned wrong, let me know!)

As I just mentioned in the orchid section, there aren’t really any more pink or purple characters left in the cast, which leaves us with a problem. Based on the answers I landed on for all of the other colors, I found myself left with Min, Eden, Arturo, Rose, and Veronika. I sort of associate Min and Rose with purple based on the colors of their outfits, but officially, they’re both sort of brownish.

That’s why… I actually think this might be a character we haven’t met yet. Namely, Diana Chiem (should she actually exist), the woman in the video/the hand holding the acceptance letter, the class’ teacher that Min mentions, or M__ N____i(___). Or, some combination of these people, should any of them actually be depicting the same person.

Periwinkle is the last color to appear, which could correlate to how this character will take a while to appear in the story. Their one and only quote being “world” matches how this person is currently in the outside world, not the killing game. They could also be a connection David has to the outside world.

I’m aware this is even more of a copout than calling Mai red, but I honestly believe in this more than any of the other students.

And with that, we’re finally done! I’m always a sucker for matching things to other things, so this was a lot of fun. I might have more to say on this MV in the future, or I might not, but either way, it’s been an honor to piece this thing together with you guys.

sorry for barging into your inbox for the second time today but c. 131 unlocked the brain worms sjsksks

what really gets me is the difference between kyun's view in viewpoint b and takamine's (assuming shes 45510 narrator)

like you said, takamine saw and still sees ai as the perfect idol, a fan striving to keep her perfect image (kind of paralleling akane and kana's fan-actor situation where akane hates but also adores kana as an actor but where takamine bought into ai's façade despite knowing her backstory and the clear evidence that ai tried to be as honest as possible yet still labelling her as a liar/perfection and refusing to see her as anything else, akane strove to understand kana and her situation instead) and her own words put ai up on a pedestal and in the process characterizes ai only in relation to that pedestal and refusing to look any further, thus sending the chance for any connection down the drain

in contrast, as i was rereading viewpoint b, kyun struck me as having a sort of? awareness? about ai and her own perception of her because kyun actually reflects about the "idea of ai", considering that that "perfect woman" was actually a mirage from memory. she doesn't actually break out of the mirage, but she's honest with herself in a way takamine isnt, in that she knows her view of ai as inhuman is probably a falsehood, but she had decided to take that view anyway

conversely thats what allows kyun to actually connect with ai, even if she misses the mark sometimes, rather than getting caught up in the façade and clam up like kanan does earlier, kyun instead opens up, confirmed in the story itself as kyun even says that her choosing to view ai this way is what allows her to be able to tell ai things she wouldn't tell anyone else

and its because of that very mindset along with the fact that she markedly makes the effort to try and understand ai where everyone else didn't that she manages to see ai's suffering and chooses the lyrics to match what she was able to see

i think this is why ai felt that kyun was the member she was closest to, because kyun opening up allowed the way for ai to open up and the song that was a joint effort made between them, of true feelings they both expressed to each other

"from miserable me, to miserable you" a summation of that conversation between ai and kyun

OH NO.... ONE OF MY OSHI NO MOOTS ANALYZING MY FAVE SIDE STORY IN MY INBOX.... WHATEVER WILL I DO.... 🥺

Joking aside, I think this is a pretty spot on analysis of Kyun and her relationship w/Ai in Viewpoint B. Honestly, what I found really fascinating while going through the process of translating them both is just what a study in contrast they were. Kyun starts off Viewpoint B talking about how angry she is but what came out to me much stronger was this persistent melancholy, a sort of soft nostalgic sadness. By contrast, 45510 is incredibly angry and hostile, to the point where it can honestly be a little uncomfortable to read!

The main difference is, as you said, that sense of self awareness – both Kyun and the 45510 narrator take part in dehumanizing Ai but while the 45510 narrator either isn't aware or willing to admit what she's doing, Kyun not only freely admits to it but is able to identify and explain pretty clearly why she feels she has to do it and, notably, does not blame Ai for this -- as she herself puts it, it's an issue of her own jealousy and her own feelings and so while it's maybe not the healthiest way to do it, there's something oddly considerate about her doing her best not to resent Ai for something that's so out of her control.

The real point of contrast comes when both of them are unavoidably confronted with Ai's humanity in ways that threaten their perception of her. The 45510 narrator responds with not just hostility but revulsion and goes out of her way to irrevocably destroy this trace of the real Ai, so the eternal idol can survive in her mind, untarnished.

Kyun responds much differently – she accepts this challenge to her worldview and to an extent, she accepts Ai as well. It's kind of heartbreaking that the thing Ai wanted most of all, to have someone see her for who she really was and accept her, was so close by and the two of them just sort of... missed each other. I've said this before, but I wonder so often just how many things could have changed if Ai and Kyun's friendship had stuck and given Ai the support within B-Komachi she so desperately needed.

Something I found myself wondering as I was mulling over all this is maybe it's a matter of age and perspective?

Kyun is around 18 at the time Viewpoint B takes place, which puts her at around 3 or 4 years older than Ai while the 45510 narrator's age is never given but she confirms she was a middle schooler like the rest of the founding members, which would make her roughly the same age as Ai, so probably around twelve or so when they debuted.

Kyun also didn't have a ton of prior brain poisoning from the entertainment industry; as she puts it, she was primarily a musician who only gravitated towards being an idol as a way of being able to make music her career in any way she could. The 45510 narrator, by contrast, seems to have been inducted into the industry and its standards at a relatively young age which gave them plenty of time to fry her brain.

I hope we get more deets about the B-Komachi girls soon........................ I'm really hopeful that the Spica novel's Ai story will have at least a few tidbits about the founding members since it focuses at least partially on Ai's early time there. Mr Akasaka, please.... my crops, they're withering.....!!!!!

“Are you sure you want me to come with you I mean this a big deal” You asked .

Omar looked over at you and smiled at you. The two of you were currently enjoying the weekend off by doing nothing.

OA didn’t say anything to you he just rolled over and threw his whole entire body on you. He looked down at you and kissed you which you happily returned the favor.

“Mmmm your right I changed my mind I don’t want to be seen with you” OA said

“See no problem because I don’t wanna ruin my cred by seeing with you either” You said laughing.

“Baby come on I’m trying to be serious right now” OA said

“I thought you were being serious by saying you don’t want me to go” You said

“Come on now” OA said with a more sternness in his voice.

“Yes sir” You said leaning in and kissing him.

He wasn’t falling for it though and quickly pulled away and you pouted at him.

“Fineee I’ll go with you what do I even wear to something like that” You said.

“Well it’s a military ball so I’m going to let you figure that out” OA said.

“So rude to me” You said playfully slapping his chest.

“Ouch that hurt” OA said.

He grabbed your hands and pinned them over your head and he leaned down and kissed you hard and deep.

You kissed him back getting lost in the moment. Suddenly OA pulled away and got up off you leaving the bed.

“Wait where are you going” You asked in a whining sad voice.

“As much as I would love to stay I can’t I got some stuff I have to take care of” OA said

“What the hell do you have to do”

‘Thats my business so now if you will excuse me” OA said throwing his shirt on you

“Enjoy this it’s something for you to remember me while I’m gone” OA said

He then turned his whole body around and flexed his muscles.

You just rolled your eyes at him.

“So sweet and very considerate of you” You said.

OA walked out the room and started taking a shower to get ready wherever he was going. You just turned your attention to the TV and put on your fave TV show.

OA was done a few minutes later and he threw on a hoodie and some sweats. Men always take a minute to get dressed it’s annoying.

“Bye baby I’ll call you when I’m on my way home” OA said walking over to you and pecking you on the lips.

“Bye have fun with what ever your going to do” You said.

OA left at that and you were every confused on what he was out there doing. I mean that was so random that he just up and left.

You tried paying attention to the TV but your mind kept wandering back to that Military Ball.

You knew it was coming up but for some reason you didn’t think OA would want to go. You guys had been dating for about 3 years now and he never went.

He was invited every year but he always said it wasn’t his thing and he truly wasn’t lying about that. When he was awarded with a award for his bravery from the FBI he barely went to that.

Maybe he was just feeling sentimental this time though you thought. He seemed like he really wanted to go so you wanted to be supportive.

But now to a hard decision and that was what do you wear to a type of thing like that.

You knew it was formal but like cocktail formal or ballgown formal. Also this thing was next weekend and this man did not give you any type of room to prepare.

You pulled out your phone and decided to keep it simple and wear something more cocktail appropriate.

You browed trying to find something you were in a rush because you couldn’t do it during the week because of work.

You spent the rest of the day looking for something nice to wear.

You got so wrapped in what you were doing you didn’t realize how much time had passed. OA was still gone which made you really wonder what he was doing.

You got up off the bed and made your way to the kitchen to find a snack and stretch your legs

. Of course your days off always go by so fast. But the good news was it was quiet and you found the most beautiful dress to wear and it would be here just in time.

After eating your snack you looked around the house and decided to clean it. I mean who else was going to do it.

I mean OA seemed like he was a nice organized military man but that was the farthest thing from the truth.

He had more stuff laying around then you do. So much for laying around and doing nothing you thought.

You turned on some music on the tv and really got the vibes going. You were bouncing all around the house and if you do say so it looked really nice in that house.

The music was so loud and you were in such a good mood you didn’t even realize that OA had come home and he was looking at you and just laughing.

“I like this show a lot why wasn’t i invited” OA said loud enough to get your attention.

“Damn it you scared the shit out of me” Jumping pretty bad and clutching your chest.

OA walked over and he grabbed some flowers. They were fresh and colorful and really pretty.

“Here a piece offering and for me being ditching you and being gone all day” OA said.

“OMG thank you so much there so beautiful it just almost makes up for you giving me a heart attack” You said

“What else can I do to make it up to you” OA said looking down and smiling at you

“Order me some chinese food” You said

“Done” OA said.

You went and grabbed a vase for the flowers and put them away. You and OA made your way to the couch and he ordered you chinese like you wanted.

The rest of the weekend went by super fast and the two of you didn’t leave the apartment at all and barely even left the couch.

Monday came and you were both getting ready for work. Now don’t get me wrong you loved working for the FBI but damn why were they open on Mondays.

After getting dressed and eating breakfast you made your way to work. On the way there you thought maybe Maggie could tell you where OA went on saturday.

Not that you thought he was out there doing anything bad but you were just curious because this whole weekend he would not tell you.

You arrived at the office after OA pouted the whole time for you driving. No matter how many times you took the keys from him he still would act upset.

OA made you listen to Jazz music the whole time. He insisted that it was a fair trade off. You guys arrived at the office not too long after that.

You both got out the car and headed up to work. You worked as an intelligence analyst which you loved your job.

You went to the JOC and OA headed back to his desk to put his stuff away. You decided you needed some much caffeine and headed to the break room.

Once in there you saw Maggie who had the same Idea as you.

“Hey Mags good morning” You said using your “nice” voice.

She looked over and smiled and instantly knew that you were going to ask her something.

“Hey morning Y/N how was your weekend” Maggie asked

“Good so did you at all talk to your boyfriend this weekend or maybe even see him” You asked still using the same voice.

“Noo I didn’t actually why” Maggie said smiling.

“Because he left basically all of saturday and didn’t say anything to me” You said.

“Nope sorry I can’t help you” Maggie said

“Fineeee” You said.

Maggie just left and you all headed into the JOC for the morning briefing. Work was typical a usual some messed up psycho in the world was hurting someone else.

You all ended up working late that night like you usually do. It was just the beginning of a long week. Everyday that week you all had long days.

The only thing that got you going was that military ball you were supposed to go to. It sounded like a lot of fun.

Though the closer it got the more weird OA was being. He kept going out late and just his mood seemed off.

He just told you he was nervous seeing his old friends. So you just let it be his military past was always a touchy thing for him.

Then came Friday the night before the Ball. Thank goodness you all left work on time because you had to go and pick up your dress.

You asked OA to go with you but he said he had other plans and would meet you at home. If you didn’t know him you would have thought his man was cheating on you.

You didn’t want to push him though because he seemed pretty invested in whatever he was doing.

You were so excited to go and pick up your dress. It was from a small local owner and when you went and tried it on it fit you like a glove

. It was so pretty and so gorgeous you felt like a princess.

The sales lady got you to buy some nice shoes and accessories with it. That matched the whole outfit nicely.

After you paid for your stuff you caught a taxi and headed home. OA didn’t think about you driving with him to work when he abandoned you at work.

When you finally got home he was already there. He was sitting on the couch bouncing his knee up and down and twisting his ring something he always did when he was nervous.

“Hey babe your home” OA said shooting up like a rocket when he saw you.

“Yeah i texted you that I was is everything okay” You asked.

“I’m good you just startled me” OA said grabbing his phone and locking it.

“Umm you want to see my dress for tomorrow” You asked

“Nah let’s keep it a surprise” OA said smiling at you.

“Okay” You said.

You sat your stuff down on the table and walked over to where he was standing. You went in and gave him a hug and then he squeezed you tight and his muscles seemed to relax when he wrapped them around you.

You let go and leaned up and kissed him softly. He kissed you back taking his big hands and placing them on your face.

When he pulled apart he placed his forehead on top of yours. He seemed a lot more calm now

“Hey baby is everything okay” You asked

“I’m good sorry i’ve been acting weird i’m just worried about tomorrow that’s all” OA said.

‘It’s okay i’ve just been worried about you” You said

“I know but i’m okay I promise I love you so much” OA said

“I love you too how about we relax i’ll order some dinner and we can watch that new movie you been wanting to watch” you said

‘Sounds amazing but let’s eat in bed i’m so tired” OA said

“Hell yeah we will let’s go” You said.

You both changed into your PJ’s and laid in the bed. You ordered some food and put on that movie and OA pulled you close to him. It really was a relaxing night.

The next day came and OA was fast asleep and you just let him rest because he has been doing a lot.

You decided to surprise him that morning and make his some breakfast in bed.

You began pulling out the stuff and began cooking. Suddenly two big arms wrapped around you and it made you jump a little.

“Mm smells so good” OA said

“I was supposed to surprise you with breakfast in bed” you said leaning back to look him in the eyes.

“I thought that was my job” OA asked

“Don’t be sexist Omar” You yelled.

“Sorry sorry I appreciate the gesture” he said laughing.

“Now come on get out” You yelled.

OA just laughed and headed out back to the bedroom. You finished up cooking make a whole buffet of your guys favorite food.

When you were done you put it all together on a nice try and walked into the bedroom. OA was laying there playing around on his phone. When he saw you he put his phone down and smiled at you.

“Ta da” You yelled.

“Thank you baby, it looks soo good” he said.

You sat the tray down in front of him then crawled next to him on the other side of the bed. You grabbed your plate and you both started eating.

“Mm this is so good baby” OA said in between bites.

“Mm thank you not to bad if I say so myself.” you said also shoveling food down.

The rest of the time you both ate in silence and when you guys were done neither one of you bothered to put the plates away. Just laid back into the bed.

“So are you leaving me today” You asked

“Nope I don’t have anything to do today” OA said.

“Surprising because all week you been shady” You said

“I was not being shady for leaving the house” OA said sarcastically

“Sureee okay you won’t even tell me where you were going” You said back

“I have a life” OA said

“I am your life” you said

“Soo cocky” OA said laughing.

You laughed back and then it fell quiet you both were tempted to go back to sleep. You never realized how tired you were until the weekend came.

Instead you put on TV and moved the plates to the floor next to you. You then crawled over and put your head on OA’s chest and snuggled up right next to him.

He wrapped his arms around you and you both started watching tv. You were nervous about this Ball later but you just decided to focus on right now.

You both just laid in bed all day not doing anything. And time just flew past so fast. You had to be there at 8 so in NYC time you had to leave at 7.

It was around 5:30pm and you decided to start getting dressed. You did all your skin prep and even made OA do a face mask with you. Telling him he needed to prep his skin and make it pop.

You had every type of mask on. From a hand , feet, hair and face one. OA decided to take a picture of you making fun of you.

“See this is what I get for trying to make myself nice for you” You yelled. Trying to kick the phone out of his hand .

“Awe come on I’m just messing around” OA said laughing

“Your being so rude” You said laughing.

Then when all that prep was done you got in the shower. Then you got out and started fixing your hair and make up. And just like a typical man you had to make sure OA was getting ready.

Finally after getting ready you put on your dress and accessories you got. OA was wearing his military uniform and you never seen him wear it before.

He looked so good in it and it kind of made you see him a little differently.

“Babe my eyes are up here” OA gasped.

“Come on I’m just admiring the view.” You said smirking a little

OA looked at you up and down his eyes going wide at the sight of you.

“Oh what happened to my eyes are up here” You said laughing.

OA walked over to you and grabbed you by the waist and pulled you in for a kiss. It was nice and deep which made you moan a little.

“Mm come on we gotta go were already late” You said

“ you just look so damn beautiful” OA said

“You look really handsome i’ve never seen you in that before” You said

“Thank you and I know but i’ve never had a reason to wear it before” OA said

“Come on baby let’s go” OA said.

You gathered up the rest of your stuff and then headed out. You got into OA’s car and sense it was his night you let him drive.

It was a beautiful summer night out and in typical fashion there was a lot of traffic. The Ball was downtown but OA was headed uptown.

“Why are you going this way” You asked.

“Don’t question my driving I know a way that’s faster” OA said

“MM sureee but this is why I drive you do weird” You said.

“What ever” OA said.

You just looked out the window after that. Even though you lived in NYC it was still beautiful to look out at the sights.

After driving for a while OA stopped at a restaurant. It wasn’t just a restaurant, it was OA’s favorite Egyptian restaurant he went to. He grew up eating there and now it was a favorite of yours too.

You looked at him confused but he just walked over and opened up your door.

He gave you his hand and helped you get out of the car.

“Where are we going what are we doing” You asked

“Just trust me” OA said

“What about your thing” You asked

“Stop asking so many questions,” OA said.

You two made your way to the restaurant and when he opened up the door it was empty but it was beautiful. There were flowers everywhere and there were lights and candles lit up. It was so gorgeous.

“What the hell is this” You asked

“3 years ago you asked me on a date here because you told me it was to sexist for the girl to wait for the guy to ask” OA said

“And you picked here because you said you knew how much it meant to me and you wanted it to be special that night and it was because we spent all night talking and laughing and they has to ask us to leave because they were closing” OA said

“And then we walked around because neither of us wanted the night to end and I never wanted to leave you and that’s when I knew I was in love with you” OA said

“ I never thought about having a family falling in love or getting married. I figured that it wasn’t meant for me but now when I’m with you that’s all I want to spend the rest of my life with you” OA said

He pulled a box out of his pocket and got down on one knee

“Will you do me the honor of marrying me” OA asked

“Umm are you sure” You asked. Not sure why it just came out

“Yeah your right let me think about it” OA asked laughing.

“Stop it no omg wait Yes of course Yes” You said.

OA got up and put the ring on your hand. It looked so beautiful.

“It belonged to my mom my dad gave it to her when he proposed ” OA said

“I can’t take this” You said

“Yes you can she wants you to have it” OA said

“It’s so beautiful and I love you so much” you said

“I love you to” OA said leaning in and kissing you.

Then he walked over and pulled out his phone and hooked it up to a speaker.

A beautiful song started playing and he reached out his hand.

“May I have this dance” OA asked

“Of course” You said, grabbing his hand.

The song was so beautiful

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii bestie, i dunno if you like The Crane Wives, like the rock band, but as of late i simply cannot get them out of my goddamn head. And then, i had an epiphany: so many of these songs exude major zukka vibes. Like not in the way youd think, probably, because in my head they're about the very specific Zuko who is just like. curses - the recurring fire related language!!!! every word i say is kindling but the smoke clears when you're around!!! zuko being a very rough-around-the-edges imperfect character but being loved regardless (by sokka). i love how this song is clearly about someone who's haunted by their past but it's still quite peppy, and her VOICE on the 'ashes ashes dust to dust, the devil's after both of us, lay my curses out to rest, make a mercy out of me' HELLO???? it's so desperate and raw im obsessed with it. that line gives me big tams zuko & azula vibes, like on the run from the fire nation/ozai as the 'devil's after both of us' yep yep yep. omg actually this whole song is very them

I'm a 'demo always is better than released always' truther but I mean IT'S ALWAYS but it's not an ALBUM so we're gonna move over to...)

crush: 9.5/10 YES I PUT CRUSH ABOVE SLIPPERY WHEN WET THAT'S MY HOT TAKE BUT: it was my first bon jovi record ever, I think it's tbf the best they put out in the 2000s, it's my life is what hooked me for life and it's also like a very good album in the first place, it has the ballads, it has the bangers, it has the quality, there's no fillers and I'mma still say save the world is the best ballad they put out since 2000 onwards but like next 100 years has great guitar, I <3 two story town too not counting the beginning three which HELLO ALL BANGERS so yeah I'mma go with crush

slippery when wet: 9/10 okay tldr slippery is a GREAT record it has basically ALL bangers and there's absolutely nothing bad I can say about it and it's the best of their hair metal phase but like I've heard the hits so many times I can sing you livin on a prayer in my sleep and the ones I like best are the three that weren't singles also i prefer the lyrics in the post slippery records in general but yeah it's top five

for the rest, in order:

self-titled debut from 1984: I mean I'd give it a fair 6/10, runaway is a banger and I love shot through the heart but it's hair metal to the core and it's basically all around (1) hit so not what I'd start from if you're listening to them in 2024

7800 degrees fahrenheit: 6/10 too, it's an okay record but again if you're into hair metal you'll prob enjoy it if you're not it's fun but tbf slippery when wet was a complete jump of quality

bounce: I think ppl sorta evaluated it negatively since it came out for idk what reason and idk I think it was when people started being like EH THEY'RE CHEESY THEY SUCK but it had some very strong pieces when it came to slamming you with good solos, the ballads had admittedly cheesy lyrics but I'm a sap and love me back to life/open all night never fail to hit with me, the distance and right side of wrong were splendid and admittedly postcards from the wasteland which was imvho the best one was a bonus track so IDEK WHAT THEY WERE THINKING but for me it was a solid 7.5/10

have a nice day: absolute banger of a record 8/10 idc, who says you can't go home best banger, i am best ballad I've cried over that song an embarrassingly amount of times, the title track was GREAT, last man standing same and tbf the only thing I don't like about this record is that they never did the who says you can't go home duet song with keith urban because man I'd have paid to hear that

lost highway: I have no idea how ppl feel about this record but as a person who loves country music to a ridiculous degree bon jovi doing a country record was a total joy for me and I'mma 8/10 it because it's great it's fun the title track is honestly a joy to listen to and fine cheesy lyrics but who gaf it's part of the fun

the circle: honestly a solid record, 7/10 because I liked bounce better back in the day but it holds on, has bangers, the cheese is on point (idc superman tonight is how you do cheesy songs), not 90s level but pretty good

what about now: this one is 50/50 like the good (because we can, the fighter and amen at least) is excellent and the meh is not their best and as usual the best stuff is in the bonus songs but like tbf you could feel the sambora split was incoming, I'mma rate it 6.5 because I'd casually listen to it more than the first two but of all the post 80 ones where sambora was in it's arguably the worst

burning bridges: I mean it's not a full on album because it's all previously unpublished tracks they did to finish the contract with the previous label so it's like not exactly coherent but admittedly the tracks are all pretty good, we don't run was a banger but all of the others were p okay and admittedly burning bridges-the-song is a level of spite that should be rated 10/10 just for that, but like overall it's a 7, nice but not fundamental

this house is not for sale: listen if ppl thought they were done without sambora they were wrong and I'mma 7.5/10 this because it's solid, has very nice songs, tbf it's a breath of fresh air wrt sound and I think the latter half like songs 8-12 is like REALLY really good no filler no mood going down def very nice

bon jovi 2020: idk why people didn't go OMG WHAT on this record but like....... 8/10 absolutely great FINALLY they went back to the more socially aware these-days-time lyrics except even more, FINALLY they went back to 5+ minutes songs and it only suffers that limitless was like the first single and it's the only meh song imvho but american reckoning is TRULY something, blood in the water and unbroken are wow, do what you can was the song I needed in covid times, lower the flag was like REALLY good anyone who's like THESE PPL ARE SO GUNG HO AMERICA hasn't heard that probably and like I thought it was really good def the best lyrically since these days and in general since have a nice day

100.000.000 bon jovi fasn can't be wrong is like... 4 records of b-sides and each of them is on new jersey level singularly for me so take it as you will but if you're a thorough person it's 10000/10 XD

this left feels right is alternative arrangements, some are very good some are whatever but the slow blues version of you give love a bad name was a win

one wild night live is a p decent live record tho if you want the best just get the live from london 1995 dvd with ALL the songs not just the first one they put out because that one is like mindblowingly good

blaze of glory aka jbj's first solo record: listen the movie it was made for (young guns ii?) was forgettable and a soundtrack for a movie that bad had no right being this good but honestly it's a goddamned masterpiece, the songs are all amazing and every time i listen to santa fe/justice in the barrel one after the other I'm just like WHY DID YOU STICK THESE SONGS IN A SOLO RECORD FOR THAT MOVIE MAN anyway 9/10 I love blaze of glory

destination anywhere aka jbj's second solo record: my friends my romans my countrymen my nickname has been janiesomething since I was 12 because of a song on that record so like... you know XD but it's just really really good, it has VERY nice lyrics, no cheese anywhere, the sound itself is really refined imvho and I'mma 9.5/10 it idc I absolutely wholly recommend jbj's solo records they're both great

stranger in this town aka richie sambora's first solo record: excellent if you're into blues music also has some really great songs (ballad of youth in my heart) and a great wind cries mary cover song but like it's admittedly really good 8/10

undiscovered soul aka richie sambora's second solo: less hard than the previous but still has quite the bangers, I really enjoyed it, has some p. nice ballads (some ARE cheesy but it's good cheese so) and idk I got it when I was 13 and I listened to it an entire summer I have very nice memories tied to it I'd 8/10 it too

I can't say shit abt to the third because I pre-ordered it before he quit bon jovi, I received it A YEAR AND A HALF LATER after he quit bj so I was pissed at him and listened to it once so sorry can't recommend or not XD

... tldr: these days/keep the faith/new jersey/crush/slippery + crossroads for basics and if you want to have just the best and what I'd personally recommend getting if you want to just start, the rest is rated if you want more XD

I LOVE Ethel Cain, I regularly listen to Preacher's Daughter from start to finish because I love getting caught up in it. Although I've also been really into Inbred lately. "Crush" was just on repeat when I first thought up this story and I love the sort of youthful "I don't give a fuck, I want you" vibe- kinda sweet and kinda hot at the same time.

I've been writing the last part for a little while! To be honest I've become a bit self conscious about the dynamic between Matty and George again... I don't want to be cheesy, don't want George to seem too mean or Matty to actually seem put off, etc. And I'm definitely pushing the limit of what's realistic, but I want to do it in a way that's still believable... so yeah. Just in my head about it rn and open to feedback for sure.

I just finished the album and based on my first listen, the songs that I really liked were question...?, vigilante shit, bejeweled, karma and sweet nothing. I like maroon, anti-hero, and mastermind but I think they are the type of songs that I will love more the more I listen to it.

But holy sht bejeweled is probably my favorite, it has bad btch energy and I live for that. Like in the song, she gives off the vibes that she knows what she's worth and if you won't live up to that and appreciate her then bye bye motherfcker. My second fave would probably be sweet nothing. It's just so sweet and something like I could cry to. It gives off that feeling of warmth, like you can run to that song, and it would give you a warm hug to make you feel okay again. I really like it.

Question...? is just hilarious to me because I believe it's about my divorced parents. She called her a sad boy lmao. Also the lyric "We had one thing goin' on / I swear that it was somethin' / 'Cause I don't remember who I was / Before you painted all my nights, / a color I've searched for since" reminded me of illicit affairs' "don't call me kid, don't call me baby look at this godforsaken mess that you made me, you showed me colors you know I can't see with anyone else" and I think that's beautiful

Overall, 'midnights' is a beautiful album. Is it my favorite? Probably not but I still find it beautiful especially the lyricism of the songs. I'm looking forward to falling in love with it though as I always do with Taylor's music.

“Why isn’t she answering? She always answers. You don’t think she went somewhere, do you? She would tell me...She was-s fine in the morning and-” Daniel stumbled out quickly, pacing the rehearsal room. The boys laid sprawled out on the floor and sofa after a long day of continuous rehearsing. It was nearing ten o’clock and Daniel hadn’t heard from Y/n since eight in the morning before she went to work.

“Daniel, dude, don’t worry”, Corbyn chuckled faintly, trying to ease Daniel’s stress. “She probably just got held up at work or something,” he said lightly.

“Held up? It’s basically ten o’clock, she finishes work at seven!” Daniel raised his voice abruptly in a fit of panic. He rubbed the nape of his neck and looked up at Corbyn before quietly whispering an apology.

“Hey, hey. She’s fine, don’t stress yourself out.” Jonah assured, walking over to Daniel to drape a comforting arm over his shoulder. “Just go home and tell us if you need anything” He continued, ushering Daniel to the door. Daniel nodded softly as he looked up at Jonah. He swiftly picked up his backpack from the floor and exchanged brief goodbyes with the boys.

“Daniel,” Jack called gently. Daniel looked back expectantly, “She’s fine.” Jack reminded him.

Oooh, does she know that we bleed the same?

12:01am

Daniel had arrived home hours ago, but saw no trace of Y/n anywhere. The uncomfortable and bleak silence of their apartment only made his heart race with anxiety even more. He walked hesitantly into the master bedroom, everything remained untouched from the morning. Y/n’s make up was spread out on her vanity and her clothes still in a pile from choosing her outfit the previous morning.

Daniel’s mind reeled with countless thoughts at the fact that she hadn’t been home yet. On the emotionally exhausting drive home, he had hoped tremendously that his grave anxiety would perish at the gentle, loving sight of Y/n in their bedroom as usual.

But she wasn’t there.

She’s fine. He thought.

Just fine.

Cold sheets

1:14am

Zero missed calls

No new texts

Nothing

Daniel shut off his phone and placed it on the counter, only for his eyes to flicker back to it mere seconds later. He tried to busy himself with chores around the house. He sauntered endlessly from the laundry room to the kitchen to the backyard and he still wasn’t fazed with physical exhaustion despite being awake for so long. Daniel gulped hard as he let his eyes linger on the front door, willing his eyes to stay dry despite the heart wrenching, unwavering worry he felt violently sting his sparrowy chest. He fiercely anticipated Y/n’s return, letting his mind fill with the memory of her voice from hours before.

But there was nothing.

Did she run away? Did she run away? I don't know

If she ran away, If she ran away, come back home

Just come home

2:31am

Daniel remained unmoving as he rested up in his bed, propped up against two pillows as the soft yellow light of his bedside lamp illuminated his figure. His mind was too preoccupied with thoughts about Y/n and he could barely focus on Kobe resting tenderly on his lap. The tension only grew as he watched the minutes displayed on his lock screen quickly slip by. Daniel’s sorrowful eyes focused on the picture of him and Y/n in the background as he mindlessly scrolled. After stealing a minute to compose himself, he finally tapped on his mother’s name in his contacts. Even in the wee hours of the morning, after a hard day’s work, Keri didn’t mind answering a phone call, especially from his son.

“Dani, you okay?” She asked in a raspy voice.

“Uh-um…” Daniel swiftly covered his mouth with his hand, furiously holding back his tears as he continued. “It’s Y/n... I haven’t heard from her since yesterday and...I’m getting really worried,” he spoke quietly.

“Oh Dani, '' Keri sighed, “Don’t worry, my love. Y/n’s a smart girl, I’m sure she has an explanation...I’ll call everybody I know, okay? We’ll let you know of anything.” She assured him quickly.

Daniel sighed quietly, laying back onto his pillow, “Okay, mom” he whispered.

“Don’t worry, Dani. We’ll figure it out. Get some sleep, okay?” Keri consoled, “We’ll find her. I’ll let you know if I hear anything. I love you.”

“I know. Thanks mom. I love you…” Daniel said quietly, finally melted further into his nearly empty bed as the sweet uplifting sensation of his mother’s voice echoed in his head. The motherly, innate kind of warmth from Keri always calmed Daniel and he slowly felt his energy wither away as he laid on his side of the queen bed. He lifted an arm to lean on the nightstand beside him before switching off the lamp and resting again.

I got a fear

9:26 am

Daniel awoke peacefully, shifting his body to the other side again. He hardly realised what time it was until he focused his eyes on the alarm clock, his eyes widened, and guilt wounded his chest greatly. How could I sleep this late? He wondered as he nearly bolted out of bed and stumbled to the bathroom.

With his face washed and hair sort of done, Daniel quickly trudged down the stairs to the front door as if expecting Y/n to stand right before his eyes. Daniel's face fell instantly at the empty entryway, kindling his severe anxiety again.

Daniel's phone rang from its spot on his unmade bed - he had checked for any notifications periodically throughout the night. Daniel turned back around and made a b line to the master bedroom and he nearly dropped his phone in his hurry to answer the call. With a heavy heart, Daniel glanced at the caller ID, his blood ran cold as thoughts reeled his mind again. He swallowed the lump in his throat before swiping the answer button and lifting the phone up to his ear.

She’s fine. She’s fine. She’s fine.

7:32 am, the previous morning.

Daniel had finally emerged from the master bedroom, briskly walking to the kitchen with his backpack slung over his shoulder. “Hey, Dani” Y/n said sweetly from her place on one of the bar stools.

“Hey” Daniel said tiredly, rushing to make his coffee before going to work.

“Umm, Dani…” Y/n said gently as he stirred her cup of tea simultaneously. Daniel turned to face her as he worked quietly. “Could we...maybe talk-”.

“Yeah, of course, baby. It’s just that I'm late right now.” Daniel said as he looked up at Y/n again. Her gentle expression fell into a frown but she didn’t dare let Daniel see and she lowered her head to focus on her tea again. “We’ll talk when I get home, okay?” He promised sweetly, pulling a tight smile.

Just come home

Y/n nodded eagerly and she stayed quietly, just watching him pace around the apartment as he got ready to leave. She kept her gaze down and tears pricked her downcast eyes as she still mixed her tea that was already mixed. In one swift motion, he walked up to the kitchen island, placed a quick kiss to Y/n’s forehead and grabbed his backpack with a quick “Love you! Bye!”

“I love you…” Y/n said as steadily as she could.

She wasn’t fine.

Chapter 12 of Bury Them Deep, the final chapter, is out!

Mezou jammed his hands inside of his coat pockets, unsure of what to say or even do besides grin like an idiot. Tokoyami came to a stop finally and stared at Mezou, mouth open as if he was about to speak. He gaped for a moment more before a distinctly annoyed look came across his features. “Fuck,” he hissed, “I had a whole speech that I was thinking up on the way here and suddenly I have found my mind to be a blank slate.”

Mezou laughed, unable to help himself, “I don’t need speeches.”

Tokoyami stepped forward to grab at Mezou’s coat, his grip firm and his face honest, “You deserve them. I fear I am an incurable romantic and this is simply how I function. But my words have fled like cowards and the only part of the speech that I can remember is this, but it is the important part. Let me take you on a date. A real one.”

“I’d like that,” Mezou said softly.

Fun Facts:

- Hand to god, I had not decided on names for all of Shouji’s siblings until I had to write them. Thank you, Japanese Name Generator. Though Makoto is another Sailor Moon reference. I also had not know that Shouji’s mom was where he got his artistic eye from, though I am glad for it.

- My favorite Hip song is ‘Lake Fever’ or ‘Scared’. I thought that the lyric in Lake Fever was ‘You whispered Courage’ for the longest time, legitimately until I checked the lyrics to write the pivotal fucking scene only to find out that no, it was ‘hurry’. It all worked out, thank GOD.

- IDK if anyone noticed, but I ship them as Tokoshouji, as opposed to Shoutoko. I like the idea of Tokoyami being one taking the initiative better and it seems to fit his character anyway. I don’t see this dynamic often and it drives me nuts because I could write an ESSAY on why it works so well. Idk.

- Not even gonna lie, the last Mic segment made me cry. It was like my final good bye to everyone reading, it’s personal. And it’s basically me peeking out there, as opposed to just Mic. For all of hockey’s shitty aspects, it’s the best game in the world. I love it and I want it to be good and I will do what I can to make it be good.

More stuff under the read more about my future plans with this universe:

- So I have written a chapter and a half of an Erasermic prequel, basically telling the story of what happened when Shouta retired and ended up drugged to the gills and numb to the world at Hizashi’s doorstep, despite the two of them not having seen each other in legitimately over 10 years.

- I also have a side story of Kirishima and Bakugou, both with an idea of how they got together as well as what happens to them when they get to the NHL. (Spoilers: Kirishima does not have a good time as the first out and gay NHLer. He basically gets buried in the minors despite being legitimately good. Eventually he finally quits hockey way too young. Bakugou meanwhile is a generational talent and is legit too good to bury in the minors. When Kirishima retires, Bakugou flies to Tokoyami and Shouji’s house, where Kirishima is licking his wounds, and is like ‘Marry me.’ Kirishima tells him that he’s only going to say yes if Bakugou proposes with a Cup ring and Bakugou is like ‘Bet’.

- I also have one in mind on Ojiro and Shinsou. They had an amicable breakup when they graduated, both understanding that the life of a hockey wife wasn’t gonna work for Ojiro. Ojiro went on to meet a super cool alt girl through the info sec community and they got married and had a daughter. They end up splitting up amicably when their daughter is around 7 and split custody without much of an issue. Ojiro works remotely and lives in what is basically a lake cabin up in northern Minnesota. He and Shinsou have kept in touch and when Shinsou finally retires, he comes to visit Ojiro. The fic would go over them meeting up again.

- And then, of course, there’s Shouji and Tokoyami.

They get their shitty apartment in Atlanta. Kenta helps them with the deposit and also goes with Shouji as he tries to find one. Shouji ends up getting taken on by Orca, a buddy of Loder’s who generally doesn’t take Midwestern farm boys on as apprentices but he makes an exception, despite the fact that his work very afro centric. Shouji is a nice guy though and a damned hard worker and has a good eye so Orca keeps him on for a long while. Shouji still ends up picking up a bunch of odd jobs here and there, mostly grunt work like putting up drywall, but it gets him and Tokoyami through the absolute agony that is legal school.

Tokoyami goes into intellectual property law. He knows how much work goes in to art and creative stuff and he wants to protect people like Shouji. He ends up making a pretty nice living and they’re able to pay off the credit card debt that they accumulated during Tokoyami going through law school. Shouji actually starts doing pretty well for himself too, mostly with his pottery but still with some sculpture. Eventually Tokoyami proposes that they move to Raleigh, both because it makes sense for both of them and their jobs and well... because they have a hockey team.

Shouji never gave up hockey. He had some years right after college where he did struggle to even look at his gear. He had told his parents that he was gay and not going to the NHL over the phone as they were planning to come to his graduation, because he just couldn’t take them wasting money when he knew that they would never want to talk to him again. Unfortunately, he was right. Kenta still came to his graduation though and had two bullhorns that he slammed the entire time that Shouji was accepting his diploma. He even brought Shouji his own pride flag and insisted on taking a picture with him holding it. He posted the picture on his facebook with a very bold pronouncement that he was very proud of the first Shouji to get a college degree and how anyone that had a problem with his little brother could take it up with Kenta. Still, Shouji went through some real mourning with the loss of his family and he took a small break.

But then he came back to it, once they started to get a little extra spending money. He found a beer league group in Atlanta and started to really get back into the game, researching ways to improve in his downtime. It got a little weird sometimes at the beer league games because sometimes Shouji would forget that he’d decided to wear eyeshadow or would forget that he had on entirely wrong undergarments but everyone accepts that goalies are weird so it was accepted. Eventually he ends up having people ask him to coach for their kids, which he is loathe to do until Tokoyami points out that it’s better than Shouji do it, as someone who knows how damaging expectations and pressure can be, than anyone else. So that becomes a little part time job of his.

Everything isn’t perfect for Shouji and Tokoyami. Nothing is perfect. Tokoyami is a borderline hoarder and Shouji can’t stand mess and that causes them to fight enough that they wisely seek counselling. But they’re happy. Tokoyami eases up on the goth stuff and accepts his accent a bit more, though he still dresses in dark colors, especially for court. Shouji actually gets to play around a little with the whole genderqueer thing and makes up for the time that he spent avoiding anything that would make him seem too gay. And they still work really well together, becoming the pair that everyone from college kind of groans at, because they’re so ridiculously in love, but also envies.

They get season tickets to the Carolina Hurricaines. You’ll see them with Tokoyami in a Devils jersey and Shouji with one of many from his massive collection. Tokoyami will make comments here and there during the game, showing that he does actually listen when Shouji talks about goalie stuff and they only ever miss a game for gallery openings or work events. Otherwise, they are there in their seats, holding hands and watching the game.
